Location Based Services Set to Roll in Australia Says Seeker Wireless

Location Based Services Set to Roll in Australia Says Seeker Wireless

Australian mobile marketing set for a boost with the introduction of location based services

Sydney (PRWEB) December 3, 2004

Mobile marketing is set for a real boost with the introduction of new location based services, claims the newly appointed General Manager of Seeker Wireless, Andrew Grill.

“The possibilities for LBS are endless. Everything from locating the whereabouts of a child, through to rendering assistance for roadside service or ordering a taxi can be facilitated when the location of a mobile user is made available to the company supplying the service”, he said.

Announcing the appointment, Seeker Wireless CEO, Dr. Chris Drane commented that GrillÂ’s appointment comes at a time of growth for Seeker Wireless as they move towards providing commercial Location Based Services into Australia.

“Seeker Wireless have developed capabilities that use existing GSM, CDMA and 3G handsets to enable the location of a mobile subscriber to be made available as an opt-in, permission based service to help drive the adoption of mobile marketing and mobile content offerings”, said Dr. Drane.

Grill was previously General Manager of LegionONE, a leader in the provision of SMS services to corporates, and has also held senior positions with Telstra and Optus and knows the mobile marketing space well. “With SMS barcodes, and other technologies now in the market, Location Based Services are the next logical step for mobile marketers” said Grill.

“Key to the adoption of LBS services in Australia by Seeker Wireless is the use of an ‘opt-in’ model where a mobile phone user’s location is only made available with the user’s consent. This is easily achieved by sending an SMS, or updating the user’s website profile” says Grill.

“The Seeker Wireless difference is that our solutions will work with existing handsets, and don’t rely on GPS type systems. Only a fraction of handsets in Australia are “GPS ready”, and currently no operator is utilising the GPS capabilities of these handsets, which require the user to be outdoors and in view of overhead satellites. The Seeker Wireless solution uses existing phone networks and handsets to provide reliable location information”, said Grill.

Location based services in the UK and South Africa have enjoyed healthy revenue growth and more services are currently under development. Seeker Wireless is currently in discussions with a leading LBS operator to bring a range of location based services to Australia.

Seeker Wireless is also pioneering the development of mobile location technologies that greatly improve the accuracy of location information currently available from the mobile operators – making location based services a more viable option for wireless operators and marketers than ever before.

“Mobile marketers have been trying for some time now to get the formula right for marketing to mobile phones. With the introduction of Seeker Wireless Location Based Services, mobile marketing becomes more cost effective” said Grill. “Knowing where a user is, combined with their permission to receive targeted marketing information or offers will be a real win-win for marketers and consumers alike”, predicts Grill.

Seeker Wireless is currently in discussions with local operators about providing location based services to Australian mobile phone users.

Business Consultant Calls for a New Business Model

Business Consultant Calls for a New Business Model

Business consultant Lewis Green's fifth book was just released by HRD Press, Inc. Called Lead With Your Heart, the book calls for businesses to adopt a model that will result in business success as well as create a better world in which to do business, to work and to live.

Avon CT (PRWEB) November 20, 2007

Business consultant Lewis Green's fifth book was just released by HRD Press, Inc. Called Lead With Your Heart, the book calls for businesses to adopt a model that will result in business success as well as create a better world in which to do business, to work and to live.

"This book is about changing the way we do business. It is written to inspire business executives, managers and entrepreneurs to invest in a new business model that can be a first step to changing the world we live in," Green says.

Green was inspired to write this book by Mahatma Gandhi's quote, We must be the change we wish to see in the world, and what he has experienced in his three decades as a corporate manager, executive and entrepreneur. Lead With Your Heart is about creating a business environment where business leaders lead with the heart, take a hard look at their values, implement and live by those values, and then build value-driven businesses in which people are more important than overzealousness to earn money. In this book, Green talks about creating happiness, and by doing so, he argues we change the world in good and right ways as well as reap large profits.

"I often wonder why American businesses don't spend more time strategizing around happiness, Green adds. Happiness is the driving force behind everything Americans do. It is the key to determining their wants, needs and desires. It is the essence of the American Dream and is as important as the air you breathe. It is true that many companies are customer-focused and invest lots of energy in meeting customer needs. Responding to those needs should result in happy customers, happy employees, and a healthy bottom line. Unfortunately, the efforts being made by too many businesses to create happy and loyal customers fall far short of what is necessary."

Note to the Media and Bloggers: Review copies of Lead With Your Heart are available for media and business bloggers. The author is available for interviews, TV and radio guest spots, and speaking engagements. Call 860.673.7543. The book may be purchased at Amazon. com or online directly from HRD Press or by calling 1-800-822-2801.

Hawkwatch International and Bureau of Reclamation Announce 6th Season of Raptor Migration Monitoring near Jordanelle Reservoir in Northern Utah

Hawkwatch International and Bureau of Reclamation Announce 6th Season of Raptor Migration Monitoring near Jordanelle Reservoir in Northern Utah

HawkWatch International a non-profit organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is working to learn more about the migrations of hawks, eagles, and falcons throughout western North America. It is one of 16 locations in the HWI network of migration study sites. The information gathered in these studies helps us understand the ecology, status, and conservation needs of North American raptor populations.

HawkWatch International (PRWEB) February 14, 2002 -

Profit organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah, is working with the Bureau of Reclamation to learn more about the migrations of hawks, eagles, and falcons, collectively called raptors, throughout western North America. The 2002 season, February 25 through May 19, marks the 6th consecutive spring of HWIÂ’s Jordanelle Raptor Migration Project in the eastern Wasatch Mountains overlooking Jordanelle Reservoir. This ongoing effort monitors long-term trends in populations of raptors using this Rocky Mountain migratory flyway. It is one of 16 locations in the HWI network of migration study sites. The information gathered in these studies enables us to better understand the life histories, ecology, status, and conservation needs of raptor populations in North America. Because raptors occupy large home ranges, inhabit most ecosystems, and are sensitive to environmental contamination and other human disturbances, they serve as important biological indicators of ecosystem health. By monitoring their populations, harmful environmental changes can be identified and addressed early. Ultimately, by protecting raptors, we protect ourselves.

Almost any day this spring, visitors to the Jordanelle site should see a number of birds of prey as they travel north from their wintering areas. Considering previous years' numbers, observers in 2002 expect to count between 2,800-5,000 migrants of up to 17 species during the season, including Bald Eagles, Red-tailed Hawks, Turkey Vultures, CooperÂ’s Hawks, and Ospreys.

The Jordanelle Raptor Migration Project will also include a small-scale, exploratory trapping and banding component in 2002. HWIÂ’s banding operations provide additional valuable information about migratory routes, breeding and wintering distribution, causes of mortality, and the variation and health of individual raptors.

In addition to gathering important scientific data, the Jordanelle project provides opportunities for the public to learn about the ecology and conservation needs of raptors through visitation and on-site environmental education and interpretation. This educational effort is the key to long-term success in securing public understanding and action on behalf of raptors and the ecosystems upon which they (and we) rely. Visitation is welcome and encouraged. For more information and a map to the Jordanelle project site call HawkWatch International at (801) 484-6808 or (800) 726-4295, or visit www. hawkwatch. org.

Funding for this project is provided by the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation-Upper Colorado Region; Walbridge Fund; and Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation.

Thyroid Supplement Improves Outcome for Infants Undergoing Cardiopulmonary Bypass

Thyroid Supplement Improves Outcome for Infants Undergoing Cardiopulmonary Bypass

Infants undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass may spend less time on a respirator if they receive thyroid supplementation, according to a new study published in the journal Circulation. Scientists at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research have pioneered research in the relationship between a thyroid hormone and cardiovascular disease. The Feinstein Institute’s Sara Danzi, PhD, collaborated with doctors throughout the country to test the idea that T3 supplementation in infants and children during surgery might be protective and lead to less time on intubation.

Manhasset, NY (Vocus) October 11, 2010

Infants undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass may spend less time on a respirator if they receive thyroid supplementation, according to a new study published in the journal Circulation. Scientists at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research have pioneered research in the relationship between a thyroid hormone and cardiovascular disease. The Feinstein Institute’s Sara Danzi, PhD, collaborated with doctors throughout the country to test the idea that T3 supplementation in infants and children during surgery might be protective and lead to less time on intubation.

It has been known from the Feinstein research that T3 levels drop during chronic illness and acute trauma. T3 has profound effects on virtually every tissue and organ system, including control of the cardiovascular system. Thus, T3 depletions become particularly important in heart failure. Scientists have tested the preventive intervention in adults undergoing cardiac bypass and it seemed to improve the cardiac index.

Infants are much more vulnerable to problems during bypass so scientists designed a multicenter, placebo-controlled, randomized trial to see whether infants and young children spent fewer days on a respirator if they had been given an intravenous dose of thyroid hormone. Michael A. Portman, MD, Director, Pediatric Cardiovascular Research at Seattle Children’s Hospital, was the lead author of the study. The study involved 193 infants under age two. The children were matched by anomaly and age and then randomized into a treatment or control group. After the surgery, the researchers looked to see how long it was before their breathing tubes were removed.

There was a significant benefit for the most vulnerable children: those under five months old. The mean time to extubation was 98 hours in the placebo group, compared to 55 hours in those treated with T3 before surgery. The time to extubation is a measure that suggests children are doing better and could breathe without a machine assisting them.

T3 supplementation did not make a difference for the older children, who are healthier and do better on the heels of surgery, according to Dr. Danzi. “Maybe someday this will be a standard of care for infants undergoing bypass surgery,” she said.

SKD Celebrates 25 Years of Connecting Creativity and Commerce

SKD Celebrates 25 Years of Connecting Creativity and Commerce

Southern California's Premier Industrial Design Firm Commemorates 25 Years of Building Brands Through Strategic Product Design

Marina Del Rey, CA (PRWEB) November 18, 2009

Stuart Karten Design (http://www. kartendesign. com) (SKD), Southern California’s premier industrial design firm, announces its 25th anniversary with the launch of an online retrospective (http://www. skd25years. com/) celebrating the people and events that have shaped the firm.

In 1984, Stuart Karten, a recent graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, left Gould Medical to set up an industrial design office in his Malibu apartment. Since then, SKD has grown to become a strategic partner to leading companies in the healthcare, consumer electronics and housewares industries, known for its award-winning designs that excite users and build corporate brands.

From its studio in Marina Del Rey—a location infused with the creative combustion of nearby Venice Beach—SKD remains deeply focused on strategic product development. “We’ve succeeded by staying focused on a single guiding principle—creativity,” says Karten, who leads SKD’s staff of 25 designers, researchers and engineers. “Our process of ‘connecting creativity and commerce’ involves getting into people’s minds and finding hot points that get them excited. The empathy, imagination and open-minded exploration that define our design process are at the heart of the innovation that companies seek to differentiate their products.”

During 25 years in business, SKD has worked with industry leaders such as Samsung, Hitachi, Kawasaki, and Cardinal Health, and designed inaugural product lines for several start-up companies, including Jabra and Cardiac Science. SKD’s work has won more than 90 of industrial design’s top global awards, including the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt People’s Design Award for Starkey Laboratories’ Zon hearing aid. In 2008 Fast Company magazine has named SKD one of America’s top five “Design Factories” in its Masters of Design issue, and business consultancy Frost and Sullivan has honored SKD for Excellence in Medical Device Innovation. SKD’s work has been featured in museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art and upcoming exhibitions at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and Israel’s new Design Museum Holon.

After 25 years, Karten believes that SKD has hit its stride. “Clients have entrusted SKD with some exciting projects, from designing hearing aids that banish a stigma to designing hard drives with a reduced environmental footprint. I’m proud of my team for rising to every challenge.”

A new feature on SKD’s web site celebrates 25 years of work and play (http://www. skd25years. com/) by recognizing the clients and employees who have contributed to the company’s success.
