GenoTrim™ Clinical Data Supports Significance of Genes and Weight Troubles

GenoTrim™ Clinical Data Supports Significance of Genes and Weight Troubles

GenoTrim genes are statistically significant among overweight persons. Genes can help to DNA-customize a nutritional solution for weight management, says data presented at SupplySide West International Conference.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 24, 2006

Salugen, Inc., (www. salugen. com) a leading personalized healthcare company, announced today that clinical data related to its DNA-customized nutritional solution for weight, GenoTrim™ (www. genotrim. com), was accepted for poster display at this past week’s Supply Side West International Trade Show and Conference at the Venetian in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Clinical data from the Dutch Investigation to Evaluate Treatments for DNA-Customized Nutritional Solutions (D. I.E. T. study) has affirmed earlier data that the genes measured to provide DNA-customized GenoTrim (www. genotrim. com) are statistically significant among overweight persons. In fact, 7 out 10 subjects had 2 or more GenoTrim genes contributing to their weight problems.

In this observational study, a total of 1,058 subjects from The Netherlands were genotyped in the nutrigenomics laboratory of Salugen, Inc. (San Diego, CA). Each subject was genotyped based upon the following genetic mutations: Sweet Tooth Gene™ [Dopamine D2 Receptor Gene Taq 1 Alelle (DRD2 A1)], Nervous Eating Gene™ [5-Hydroxytrytamine 2A -1438G/A promoter polymorphism (5-HT2a -1438G/A)], New Cell Gene™ [Methylene Tetrahydrofolate Reductase C677T polymorphism (MTHFR C677T)], Obesity Risk Gene™ [Leptin Genetic Polymorphism - OB1875 < 208-bp alleles (leptin ob1875)], and the fat regulator gene™ [peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma gene pro12ala polymorphism (ppar-gamma pro12ala allele)].

The Sweet Tooth Gene, associated with sugar and carbohydrate cravings, was present in 38.09% of the study subjects (n=1,058) versus 29% of the literature controls (n=3,259). This difference was significant (Z = 8.393, p = 0.0001). The New Cell Gene, associated with heart health and obesity, was present in 69.85% of the study subjects (n=1,058) versus 54% of the literature controls (n=100). This difference was significant (Z* = 2.23, p = 0.01). The Obesity Risk Gene, associated with obesity rates and hormones, was present in 75.61% of the study subjects (n=1,058) versus 45.6% of the literature controls (n=206). This difference was significant (Z = 5.612, p = 0.0001). The Fat Regulator Gene, associated with fat cell production and weight in utero into adulthood, was present in 25.05% of the study subjects (n=1,058) versus 14% of the literature controls (n=2,245). This difference was significant (Z=17.398, p = 0.001).

The prevalence of genetic combinations is also of interest as 37.81% had 3 or more genes, 73.91% had 2 or more genes. The most common genotypes were Nervous Eating and New Cell Genes (13.42%), New Cell Gene (11.81%), Sweet Tooth, Nervous Eating and New Cell Genes (10.4%) and Nervous Eating Gene (7.84%).

“The findings of the D. I.E. T. Study are consistent with earlier data supporting the initial design of GenoTrim as a DNA-customized weight loss supplement. With 30 years of experience studying the genetics of conditions once thought to be purely driven by behavior, our research continues to show that there is a genetic influence on weight. This data confirms that GenoTrim evaluates important genes and then uses that information to provide an unprecedented, customized nutritional supplement to support weight loss,” states Dr. Kenneth Blum, Chief Scientific Officer.

About GenoTrim™

GenoTrim (www. genotrim. com) is a DNA-customized nutritional solution for weight management. Based upon an analysis of five important genes effecting weight, GenoTrim ingredients and dosages are genetically-guided to address the underlying genetic factors involved in hormones and metabolism that Harvard Medical Experts suggest influence 70% to 80% of overweight cases. By addressing genetic factors that make individuals prone to weight problems, GenoTrim supports healthy sleep, digestion, mood, and fat metabolism which results in sustainable weight loss and overall trimming. GenoTrim was unexpectedly test launched in The Netherlands in early 2006 and will be available in the United States in the second half of 2006. Challenger Learning Center Receives Grant from W. K. Kellogg Foundation

Challenger Learning Center Receives Grant from W. K. Kellogg Foundation

Spanish-speaking middle-school students in economically challenged areas will learn math, science and technology through e-Missions simulating space missions that are delivered by Wheeling Jesuit University's Challenger Learning Center (http://clc. wju. edu), thanks to a $50,000 grant from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation of Battle Creek, Michigan.

(PRWEB) April 3, 2004

As part of the grant, three additional Challenger Centers will now offer e-Mission: Operation Montserrat – Spanish to schools in their region, providing more students in other areas of the country to take part in the simulated mission. Funding will also cover the cost of training teachers to use the curriculum supplements, as well as cover the cost of 40 e-Missions to schools selected by Wheeling Jesuit University's Challenger Learning Center (http://clc. wju. edu (http://clc. wju. edu)) and the three new centers set to deliver the program.

"This grant allows us to provide an innovative hands-on activities that motivate and engage students, whose first language is Spanish, with the power of math and science. Our goal is encourage them to pursue careers in these areas," says Nancy Sturm, education director of the Challenger Learning Center at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, WV. “The program will utilize distance learning technologies to create a live simulation in classrooms in selected schools across the country. ”

E-Mission: Operation Montserrat – Spanish allows participants to fill the roll of earth science experts. During the course of a two-hour live mission, the participants become members of the volcano, hurricane or communication team. The program engages participants to work as scientists in order to solve problems in real-life situations and challenges them to apply their mathematics and science knowledge to a real-life event..

"This education package places participants into the roles of scientists and astronauts trying to solve a real-life problem. Once a young person participates in the program, they are hooked and their fascination with space science exploration permeates their hearts and minds,” Sturm says.

Founded in 1994, The Challenger Learning Center at Wheeling Jesuit University is part of a growing network of centers nationwide established by the Challenger Center for Space Science Education in memory of the ill-fated Challenger Shuttle. Wheeling Jesuit's Challenger Learning Center conducts nearly 400 on-site simulated missions annually, more than any other Challenger Center in the network, and “flies" more than 430 e-missions to more than 100 classrooms, across the country and overseas, each year.

The W. K. Kellogg Foundation was established in 1930 “to help people help themselves through the practical application of knowledge and resources to improve their quality of life and that of future generations.” Its programming activities center around the common vision of a world in which each person has a sense of worth, accepts responsibility for self, family, community and societal well-being; and has the capacity to be productive and to help create nurturing families, responsive institutions and healthy communities.

To achieve the greatest impact, the foundation targets its grants toward specific areas. These include: health; food systems and rural development, youth and education; and philanthropy and volunteerism. Within these areas, attention is given to the cross cutting themes of leadership; information and communication technology; capitalizing on diversity, and social and economic community development. Grants are concentrated in the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the southern African countries of Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland and Zimbabwe.

Wheeling Jesuit University integrates the Jesuit traditions of intellectual excellence with the best of advanced technology to help students develop lives of service, success and significance. The University's mission is to educate students for life, for leadership, and for service with and among others. U. S.News & World Report ranks Wheeling Jesuit University 16th in the "Best MasterÂ’s Universities in the South," making it the highest ranked institution in West Virginia for the seventh consecutive year. Wheeling Jesuit--the only Catholic institution of higher education in West Virginia--offers more than 30 undergraduate programs of study and six graduate degrees to about 1,500 students each year. It has a student-to-faculty ratio of 13 to 1, and 17 intercollegiate NCAA Division II athletic teams. The 65-acre campus located in Wheeling, W. Va., includes 15 modern buildings, multi-million dollar Acker Science Center, and residence halls, and a modern recreation and athletic facility that includes a soccer/track and field complex. The campus is home to the Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center, the Erma Ora Byrd Center for Educational Technologies, a Challenger Learning Center and the Clifford M. Lewis Appalachian Institute.

The latest book in the 54 series compacts 20 yrs of consultancy into this highly entertaining and revealing book about the challenges of transforming organisations. The award winning author links the concepts of healing to Leadership and Organisational Development.

How to Heal your organisation. http://www. mwauk. com (http://www. mwauk. com)

Reviewers Comments:

An excellent guide to assist organisations to help people reach a state where work becomes a healthy, balanced aspect of life, and the organisation grows as a sustainable creator of wealth.
Dr Paul Donaldson
Chairman of Sysco Management Consultants Limited

Once again, Mike Wash provides telling insights from his great practical experience in identifying the symptoms shown by unhealthy organisations and guiding them towards a healthy future.
Professor Tom McGuffog MBE

Mike Wash is the kind of person who helps others to reach inside, find hidden resources, pull them out and point them in the right direction, to produce great results in life and business. In this rich and accessible book he helps the reader to understand the principles of how to work in an effective, ethical and holistic way - if you work in any kind of human resources - you will want to read this book now!
Dr Janice Russell, Module Leader
University of Hull Coaching Masters Course

Having used the approaches described within this resource, and seen the benefits for individuals, team and the organisation as a result, I would say this is a must-have resource for any organisation development practitioner. Mike brings the subject matter to life in a very practical way.
Alison Johnson MSc, Assistant Director of Organisation Development
Halton and St Helens Primary Care Trust

I wish that I had access to this insightful book when I was a young manager who knew everything (!), but needed reference points and a counter-view. Come to think of it, I wish that I'd had it when I was an old manager!
Lawrence Jackson, Managing Director (Retired)
Gentech International Limited

This book helps managers to identify not just what needs to be done 'in the moment', but also how open and honest discussion between employees and employers can lead to what Mike Wash describes as 'organisational healing'. Though many of the situations and dialogues are fun to read, they also make the reader squirm with embarrassment from the sheer recollection of having heard these types of conversations before - and yet, done little to bring about learning and renewal in any real or meaningful way.

The 54 Approaches illustrate clearly what it takes to sustain health and wealth through the process of work.
Christopher Bunker, Head of HR Europe
Polaroid Corporation (Part of the Petters Group Worldwide)

This has all the most useful tools in the essential tool kit for someone new to the notion of manager as facilitator. This is essential organisational first aid to enable organisations to move toward greater health.
Bryce Taylor, Director
Oasis School of Human Relations

Mike Wash uses his vast experience of people, organisations and processes to enable the reader to enhance themselves, their organisations and their lives. This book will be invaluable for CEO's, MD's, coaches and anyone working, needing or choosing to heal their organisation. I shall recommend this to all my students as absolutely essential reading.
Dr Graham Dexter

HostVentures Launches an IPv6 Network in Northern Virginia

HostVentures Launches an IPv6 Network in Northern Virginia

High availability managed hosting provider HostVentures launched a network in its northern Virginia node based on the new IPv6 platform.

Reston, VA (Vocus) September 21, 2010

HostVentures launched IPv6 network services in its northern Virginia datacenter node. The launch of its services on the IPv6 protocol enabled network is intended to support the wider assimilation of IPv6 platform in all major operating systems used in commercial, business, and home consumer environments.

“IPv6 is the next generation internet protocol that is intended to succeed IPv4,” says Andrew Gugel, HostVentures’ Vice President of Technology Development, “While most people believe that IPv6 was created solely to replace IPv4 only because of the impending exhaustion of physical IPv4 addresses, the redesigned IPv6 offers must more than that. IPv6 128 bit addresses are better for efficient route aggregation for direct and multicast packets which results in significantly more efficient processing for routers. This saves time and money in terms of router management and creates a more efficient network. More importantly, IPv6 offers a greater IP security environment for IP encryption and authentication.”

To deploy IPv6 services, HostVentures had to overcome the inability of IPv6 and IPv4 networks to communicate directly. HostVentures designed and deployed its network in its northern Virginia operations to implement a seamless transition between IPv6 and IPv4. The design allows the IPv6-only hosts to reach IPv4 services and allows isolated IPv6 hosts and networks to reach the IPv6 internet through the IPv4 infrastructure.

“The acceptance and use of IPv6 will be possible only if the transitions between IPv4 and IPv6 will be transparent to the end users,” added Andrew Gugel. “By making this transition possible on its network, HostVentures allows its customers to take advantage of this new technology.”

Customers that use IPv4 and IPv6 technology can now rely on HostVentures as a single provider who can design, deploy and manage their infrastructure and networks across multiple platforms.
