JDRF Riders and Coaches Ride Tandem with Tips from the Diabetes Experts at Fit4D

JDRF Riders and Coaches Ride Tandem with Tips from the Diabetes Experts at Fit4D

Fit4D to Provide Diabetes Educational Online Webinars for 2009 JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Participants

New York (PRWEB) April 21, 2009

Jump starting spring fitness, Fit4D™ (Fitness4Diabetics), and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) announce collaborative efforts to provide virtual diabetes educational information to the participants of the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, 2009. The Fit4D Coaches, Certified Diabetes Educators, will present three virtual online webinars to the 1500 Ride participants and their cycling coaches to prepare for the ride.

Riders will receive expert guidance on sports nutrition and exercise training from the Fit4D Coaches as they prepare for a successful Ride. Riders with diabetes will be empowered by a special segment on balancing blood sugars throughout training. Fit4D Coaches will deliver another webinar especially designed for the cycling coaches to engage them in a virtual round-table style discussion that focuses on training the rider with diabetes.

When asked what is most exciting to him about this year's ride, Dan Lobdell, Chair of the JDRF Ride Leadership Committee replied: "The new venue in Killington Vermont. For the first time ever there is a ride venue in the North East and we're expecting a record turnout for this venue which is exciting for the program. It's a great opportunity because we've made it possible for people to drive from Metropolitan areas all over the North East".

Dan Lobdell has plans to ride in Killington, which promises a scenic view along Vermont's Route 100, and will also ride in one other of the six JDRF Ride To Cure Diabetes venues this year.

Dan Lobdell has personally experienced diabetes coaching with a Fit4D Coach, Certified Diabetes Educator, and he has also participated in webinars powered by Fit4D. He recommends for all the participants of the ride and their cycling coaches to attend the Fit4D educational webinars, to gain as Dan describes:

"A lot of it is awareness. Fit4D is so focused on the diabetes athlete that people will come away with tips and tricks and a deeper awareness, with vitally important knowledge. Based on last year, cycling coaches got heightened knowledge and higher degree of sensitivity for working with a diabetes athlete."

Co-presenting this year's webinar to the cycling coaches is Fit4D Fitness Coach Josh Gold. Josh has coached thousands of athletes, and he explains why he enjoys coaching the diabetes athlete in particular: "Working with people living with Type 1 diabetes is extremely inspiring because of what they have to deal with day in day out." Josh recommends that diabetes athletes combine their training with a Fit4D Certified Diabetes Educator: "Fit4D is the missing link between fitness and diabetes management for people with diabetes. Fit4D is a priceless resource for all diabetes needs because there is no cookie cutter solution, personalization is required." Josh continues:
"The benefits of working with Fit4D coaches for a person living with diabetes are to have their questions answered. People don't typically have access to CDEs (Certified Diabetes Educators) that readily. The Fit4D Quick Consult, one hour on the phone with a Fit4D coach, gives them confidence, answers questions, and can put them at ease while educating on the reality and tapering fears. The Fit4D Quick Consult answers questions. For more developed guidance and lifestyle change, Fit4D offers longer term coaching with CDEs over the phone and through email."

The three virtual online webinars are provided by Fit4D at no cost to JDRF Riders and Coaches in support of JDRF's mission to find a cure for diabetes. In addition, Fit4D is offering the Fit4D Quick Consult to all JDRF Ride Participants at a discounted rate of over 25% off - for $60 for one full hour on the phone with a Fit4D Coach, Certified Diabetes Educator. The code usable at www. fit4d. com is Coupon Code JDRFRIDE09

A co-presenter of the May Riders webinar for riders is Fit4D Nutrition Coach Lucy Cole, MA, RD, CD, CPT. Lucy has completed the 1000 hours required to be eligible to take the CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) exam and has plans to do so this spring. In addition to being a Fit4D coach, Lucy Cole is an Indiana, South Bend JDRF board member. She became involved with JDRF because she wants to provide guidance for families. Lucy's presentation preview tip for this year's riders is "whatever you plan to do the day of the ride, do it for training". Lucy Cole is working with JDRF to start, and spearhead, the JDRF mentorship program for the JDRF Indiana South Bend Chapter.

Fit4D will be providing three webinars, one specifically designed to support the Cycling Coaches, and one to support Riders with diabetes that will be delivered twice, first in May and again in July:
Thursday May 7, 2009; 4 PM EDT A Guide for Ride Coaches: Training the Rider with Diabetes Presentation specifically for JDRF Ride Coaches

Presented by Fit4D Head Coach Delaine M. Wright, MS, RCEP, CDE, and Fitness Coach Josh Gold, USA Triathlon

Thursday May 28, 2009; 7:30 PM EDT Riding with Diabetes, Preparing for a Successful Ride Presentation for Riders with Diabetes and Friends/Family/Coaches

Presented by Fit4D Nutrition Coach Emily Mitchell, MS, RD, CDE, and Fit4D Nutrition Coach Lucy Cole, MA, RD, CD, CPT

Thursday July 16, 2009; 7:30 PM EDT; Riding with Diabetes, Preparing for a Successful Ride Presentation for Riders with Diabetes and Friends/Family/Coaches

Presented by Fit4D Nutrition Coach Joanne Rinker, MS, RD, CDE, and Fit4D Fitness Coach, Resa Chandler, BS, MS, MA, PhD.

The presentations will be geared towards both the cyclist for whom this is a first Ride and the intermediate or advanced rider. Fit4D coaches will also address the specific challenges faced by Ride participants who have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.

After the presentation component of the webinars, each will be a question and answer period, designed to encourage riders and their support team to ask any questions they may have -- about fitness, nutrition, preparing for the Ride, and any other relevant topics.

To help JDRF Riders meet their fundraising goals, Fit4D will launch a webinar library on their website www. fit4d. com. Recorded webinars, on topics such as Nutrition Labels & Heart Health, can be purchased for $3 each and all proceeds will be donated to JDRF's Ride To Cure Diabetes.

Green, Modern Off-The-Grid MiniHome Coming to New York for Mobile Living Exhibition

Green, Modern Off-The-Grid MiniHome Coming to New York for Mobile Living Exhibition

The Sustain MiniHome is an elegant and modern yet autonomous, off-the-grid living unit with all of the comforts of home and more, built from green and sustainable materials.

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) May 20, 2006

Designer Andy Thomson has a lot of experience with small spaces - He lived in a van with his wife and daughter for three years while at Architecture school in Vancouver. He had to see for himself - "As a designer with a deep concern for the preservation of the planetary ecosystem, the primary focus in my personal life has been to discover a viable and affordable form of housing."

Together will fellow architect and carpenter, Daniel Hall, they squeezed a lot of living and sophisticated energy and waste systems into a dwelling made from environmentally friendly materials, built a gorgeous solar and wind-powered prototype withRichlite walls and a green roof, and are taking it on the road to the Mobile Living Exhibition in New York.

The MiniHome is different from other green and modern prefabs - it comes on wheels and can be parked anywhere, on private land or in recreational RV parks. It comes fully furnished, with appliances, kitchen and storage built in, and a cozy loft above. . Many modern prefabs are built in the factory but need traditional foundations and service connections to sewer, water and power; the MiniHome needs nothing.

Heating, water, waste and power are all dealt with internally and no foundations are needed - talk about treading lightly on the landscape! And being small, it uses fewer resources in its manufacture and in its operation-talk about living with less.

Everything is designed to minimize use of electricity - the fridge, stove and heating run on propane in a dwelling so well insulated that a standard barbeque sized bottle will run for a month in the depths of a northern winter. "Electricity is a high-grade fuel" says Andy. "it is crazy to use it for anything but light and electronics. If you minimize its use to that then it is easy to generate enough from wind and solar" –of course, batteries are included.

The MiniHome is not only green but it is gorgeous. Much green design has been described as having "no edge, no, buzz, no style"- The MiniHome has them all. After all, if you are going to live in a small space it has to be well designed.

So imagine having a tiny modern home built to last from green and healthy materials, no electricity bill and minimal operating costs, which you can put on your lot, in a park or on a roof. That's the MiniHome.

About Sustain Minihome:

Northlander Industries of Exeter, Ontario builds the MiniHome for Sustain Design Studio. This radical design represents a new direction for this 40 year-old builder of modular and portable housing. The miniHome was enthusiastically received at it's first showing at the National Home Show in Toronto this spring.

TekVet Announces the TekVet System Grant Program – Educational and Non-Profit Institutions Eligible for Free TekVet Systems for Use in Large Livestock Research

TekVet Announces the TekVet System Grant Program – Educational and Non-Profit Institutions Eligible for Free TekVet Systems for Use in Large Livestock Research

Granting program will allow researchers to automatically track, trace and monitor core body temperatures of large livestock wirelessly in ongoing research efforts

NORTH SALT LAKE, UT (PRWEB) May 21, 2006 –-

TekVet™, LLC., a Utah-based developer of agricultural technologies, today announced the TekVet System™ Research and Development Grant Program.

Available to educational and non-profit research institutions, the TekVet Grant Program will provide eligible organizations with free TekVet Systems for use in their ongoing research efforts with beef, dairy and other large livestock animals. As a result, researchers will be able to automatically track and trace vital data while monitoring core body temperatures wirelessly.

“Since core body temperature is the best indicator of health in most large animals, including beef and dairy cattle, knowing precisely when an animal becomes sick is critical to the success of many research programs,” said D. Bret Smith, chief executive officer of TekVet. “By using the TekVet System, researchers will be able to wirelessly track and monitor the core body temperature of their research animals automatically with the accuracy of a rectal probe. Not only will this dramatically increase the validity of their research data, but it will also save them from having to manually take the temperature of each individual animal.”

The TekVet System is an automated radio frequency (RF) wireless solution designed to constantly monitor the core temperatures of large livestock at ranges of 300 to 500 feet, while capturing vital historical data through a private network. Universities can capitalize on TekVet’s RFID technology and allow their students to investigate the impact of the technology on numerous related issues.

“We’ve already been contacted by several of the world’s top agricultural programs and research institutions,” said Allison Thacker, director of education and research grant programs. “We’re very excited to share our end-to-end technology with both researchers and their students across the worldwide community. It is just a small token of our continued commitment and effort to encourage others to join us in developing technologies that will ultimately help in protecting our food supply.”

About the TekVet System

Central to the TekVet System is the TekVet SmartSensor™: a small wireless device that is attached to a cow’s ear and includes a flexible thermometer, a wireless transceiver and other electronic components. The TekVet SmartSensor is attached to an animal’s ear in much the same way identification tags are as used by beef producers, ranchers and dairy farmers.

Once in place, the TekVet SmartSensor can provide core temperature readings minute-by-minute or periodically throughout the day as determined by a feedlot or dairy manager. Such readings are captured by TekVet SmartReceivers™ and transmitted to the TekVet SmartManagement™ software application via the TekVet SmartNetwork™, where the readings are stored in appropriate storage devices and uploaded via the Internet to the TekVet System central network operation and data center (NOC).

Researchers interested in learning more about requirements for participating in the TekVet System Grant Program should contact Allison Thacker at 801-608-9322 for more information.

Chelsea Green Publishing Allowing Free Downloads of Marijuana is Safer on April 20

Chelsea Green Publishing Allowing Free Downloads of Marijuana is Safer on April 20

April 20 is significant because over the years “420” has become a counterculture holiday, where the primary mode of celebration is smoking marijuana publicly.

White River Junction, VT (Vocus) April 19, 2010

It runs against the most basic business acumen to give your product away for free, but next week that is exactly what Chelsea Green Publishing plans to do.

On April 20, free downloads of Chelsea Green’s Marijuana is Safer: So Why Are We Driving People to Drink (http://www. chelseagreen. com/bookstore/item/marijuana_is_safer:paperback) will be available all day, enabling users to download, print and share. Paperback copies of the book will be available on the Chelsea Green website for a discounted price of $10.

April 20 is significant because over the years “420” has become a counterculture holiday, where the primary mode of celebration is smoking marijuana publicly.

The move is intended to raise awareness of marijuana’s relative safety when compared to alcohol in the face of California’s impending referendum for legalization in November (http://ballotpedia. org/wiki/index. php/California_Marijuana_Legalization_Initiative_%282010%29). April is also coincidentally National Alcohol Awareness month.

“This promotion is all about getting the message out there,” said Kate Rados, Chelsea Green’s Director of Digital Initiatives. “Via our partners and web communities, we’ll be offering the free download to more than 200,000 people; we’re poised to make a massive impact on people’s perceptions of marijuana.”

Marijuana is Safer, written by nationally recognized marijuana-policy experts Steve Fox, Paul Armentano, and Mason Tvert, compares two of the most popular recreational substances in the world -- marijuana and alcohol; asking why society punishes those who choose to engage in a relatively safer activity.

"We are excited about this special 4/20 event," said Fox. "The reason we wrote this book is to educate the public about the relative harms of marijuana and alcohol. One obstacle to achieving this goal, however, is getting the book in the hands of people who need that kind of education, but probably would not purchase the book on their own. So we not only want people to download the book, we want them to send it to as many people as they can. It is not necessarily the best strategy for royalties, but we wrote this book to serve a purpose, not to get rich."

The book will be available for free download on Scribd. com April 20 from 12 a. m. to April 21 12 a. m. EST.

For 26 years, Chelsea Green has been the publishing leader for books on the politics and practice of sustainable living. They are a founding member of the Green Press Initiative and have been printing books on recycled paper since 1985, when our first list of books appeared. Chelsea Green leads the industry both in terms of content -- foundational books on renewable energy, green building, organic agriculture, eco-cuisine, and ethical business -- and in terms of environmental practice, printing 95 percent of our books on recycled paper with a minimum 30 percent post-consumer waste and aiming for 100 percent whenever possible. This approach is a perfect example of what is called a ”triple bottom line“ practice, one that benefits people, planet, and profit, and the emerging new model for sustainable business in the 21st century. About the Book

Nationally recognized marijuana-policy experts Steve Fox, Paul Armentano, and Mason Tvert compare and contrast the relative harms and legal status of the two most popular recreational substances in the world -- marijuana and alcohol. Through an objective examination of the two drugs and the laws and social practices that steer people toward alcohol, the authors pose a simple yet rarely considered question: Why do we punish adults who make the rational, safer choice to use marijuana instead of alcohol?

Marijuana Is Safer reaches for a broad audience. For those unfamiliar with marijuana, it provides an introduction to the cannabis plant and its effects on the user, and debunks some of the government's most frequently cited marijuana myths. For current and aspiring advocates of marijuana-law reform, as well as anyone else who is interested in what is becoming a major political battle, the authors spell out why the message that marijuana is safer than alcohol must be a prominent part of the public debate over legalization.

Most importantly, for the millions of Americans who want to advance the cause of marijuana-policy reform -- or simply want to defend their own personal, safer choice -- this book provides the talking points and detailed information needed to make persuasive arguments to friends, family, coworkers, and elected officials. Protests in Favor of Health Reform a Precursor to Massive Change in the Insurance Market

Protests in Favor of Health Reform a Precursor to Massive Change in the Insurance Market

The ultimate goal of the healthcare reform is to attempt to regulate the incredibly high health insurance costs which leaves many out in the cold when it comes to healthcare. However, this is just the beginning of massive change in the insurance market as other sectors come under intense scrutiny. One of these will most likely be the auto insurance market, where premiums have increased steadily for the past two years. Rather than wait for Obama to enact a new reform to lower auto insurance premiums, the owners of 4insure. net have taken a more proactive approach by offering a comprehensive resource aimed at reducing insurance costs.

Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) March 8, 2010

Obama’s administration is pointing the finger at insurers, blaming them, directly or indirectly, for the abysmal state of the healthcare system. The goal of the healthcare reform is to essentially allow everyone to have access to affordable healthcare while penalizing those who do not take out insurance policies. Judging by the protests scheduled for March 9th, when insurers will be convening in DC, Obama has significant support and will continue to receive it for other reforms as well. Protests are in favor of the healthcare reform and are the people’s way of saying that they have had enough of the increasingly abusive practices of insurance companies.

The auto insurance (http://www.4insure. net) sector has also seen premiums rising without much justification other than insurers need to keep their profit margins up. This is why it is likely that the administration’s next focus will be on the auto insurance market. These changes do not bode well for the insurance market if companies are not prepared to adapt to a new marketplace.

However, the owners of 4insure. net felt there was no need to wait for President Obama to enact reform in the auto insurance market before people could lower their premiums. For this reason, they launched a comprehensive resource aimed at offering a means to reduce monthly insurance payments through useful information and tools.

“The biggest challenge many consumers face is the overload of information, as the internet offers people more choice than ever. However, comparing all the available plans can last days, even weeks, never mind other pertinent information regarding types of coverage and risk management. This is why we felt a website like 4insure. net which would centralize as much information on lowering auto insurance premiums was a must,” stated the C. E.O. of the company.

This new website offers a wide range of tools and resources to make auto insurance policies easier to understand. . Essentially, people are provided will all the instruments they need to get the best coverage while still cutting down on the cost of their auto insurance. From a car insurance calculator (http://www.4insure. net/uncategorized/car-insurance-calculator/) to help compare the different plans on offer to tips on risk management to reduce insurance premiums, 4insurance. net is a comprehensive resource for anyone who wants to lower their insurance premiums.

For more information on reducing auto insurance premiums, visit www.4insure. net
