Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) February 22, 2010

UCLA discusses the process of implementation, lessons learned, advantages and disadvantages of certain decisions and what they have planned for the future.

WHO:  UCLA Health System has been a leader in patient care, medical research and clinical teaching for more than 50 years. As of 2007 they had seven different portals in operation across the organization. The reason for the homegrown approach was simply that the organization felt there was nothing on the market that could provide what they wanted at the time they needed it.

Although the homegrown portals addressed the immediate needs, the financial and resource costs of maintaining the systems were considerable. In addition, the ever-increasing demands of the clinicians and the healthcare industry, combined with the advances in technology, meant the systems needed continuous upgrades to meet high expectations and user satisfaction.

WHAT:  In 2007 the Orion Health Concerto Portal was selected after a global search for qualified clinical portal vendors. Since then UCLA has also implemented the Orion Clinical Documentation suite as an extension to the portal technology. This has provided a far more user-friendly, efficient and functionally rich documentation and HIM system. Today the solution is being rolled out to the 11,000+ users across UCLA, but it wasn't without a lot of hard work and lessons learned. Mr. Galbraith will discuss the process of implementation, lessons learned, advantages and disadvantages of certain decisions and what they have planned for the future.
