TEXAS LAWMAKER FINDS GOLD IN MOLD WHILE FILING TORT REFORMER BILL FOR INSURANCE LOBBY

TEXAS LAWMAKER FINDS GOLD IN MOLD WHILE FILING TORT REFORMER BILL FOR INSURANCE LOBBY.

For those in America wondering if toxic mold is just hype based upon hysteria, the recent discovery of a Texas State Representative's $300,000 mold claim for his $365,000 home should have you convinced.

(PRWEB) August 15, 2003

HOUSTON TX. The following is an Op-Ed concerning Texas State Represenative Joe Nixon's $300,000 mold claim which he accepted while tort reformers and the insurance lobby was declaring mold was based on hysteria, not science. He later filed a massive tort reform bill on behalf of the tort reformers and the insurance industry.

The Op-Ed represents HADD's position on this issue.

During the summer of 2001 hundreds of homeowners across Texas testified

During the first ever toxic mold hearings in the nation. Many recalled

Months of strange rashes, nosebleeds, and upper respiratory illnesses and

Spending thousands of dollars for exploratory medical tests ranging from

Cancer to lupus. Some lost their memory. Others lost their homes. And others

Such as the insurance lobbyists, lawyers, and tort reformers claimed, "mold

Is gold", and mold claims were "frivolous" based upon hysteria not

Scientific facts.

And then there were those who stood watching homeowners in tears pleading

For help from consumer groups and the State Legislature, while they were

Quietly collecting their own share of the gold and conveniently ignoring the

Hysteria, and the claims of frivolity. Such is the case of State

Representative Joe Nixon (R) Houston.

In 2001 while hearings and legislation was being crafted to address mold

Claims, Rep Nixon received over $300,000 for his own mold claim. Like many

Mold victims, his life was disrupted while his family spent a year in a

Crowded apartment during his mold remediation. But unlike many victims, he

Kept silent about the dangers of toxic mold, the cost of remediation, the

Horrible stress upon the family, and the urgent need to address mold

Contamination.

Rep Nixon had an opportunity to address the Texas Department of Insurance

During one of many of historic mold hearings held across the state. His

Position, as a Texas Representative, would have validated the claims by

Other homeowners affected by mold contamination. His own experience of

Having his family life disrupted, his financial situation threatened, and

His emotions stretched to the end would have put a halt to the false claims

Of "hysteria", "frivolous" and "mold is gold".

But he didn't. Instead he stood silently collecting his pot of gold, while

Others were foreclosing and struggling to keep their children in good health

As well as struggling with their insurance companies.

Later in the 2003 Legislation Session, Rep Nixon sponsored the tort reform

Bill on behalf of the insurance industry and the tort reform groups. These

Were the same organizations that were claiming toxic mold was based upon

Hysteria and had driven up the cost of insurance forcing companies out of

Business. Members of these organizations testified at the mold hearings, and

Some were appointed to the Department of Insurance Mold Task Force. All

While Rep Nixon was collecting $300,000 on his own "legitimate" claim and

Crafting a far reaching tort reform bill, House Bill 4.

This hypocrisy is not limited to Rep Nixon. In 2001 the Texas Attorney

Generals Office in Lubbock was evacuated and remediated due to mold

Contamination at the owners expense. And in 1995 the Texas Governor Mansion,

Under then Governor George W. Bush, was remediated at a cost of $50,000 to

The taxpayer. So while Rep Nixon's family, current Governor Perry's family,

And the employees of Attorney General John Cornyn were safe from the hazards

Of toxic mold, hundreds of Texas families, looking for help from their

Leaders, were left, out in the mold.

Currently Rep. Nixon's mold claim is under investigation for on the criminal

Aspect of political payback, but the focus should also be on the moral

Aspect. How could an elected leader, in the State that invented the word

"compassion", stand idle, with his hands buried in the pot of gold, while

His people are in financial ruin, poor health, and pleading for help? How

Could Rep Nixon ignore the hearings and families who have been ravaged

Financially, physically, and mentally by mold contamination while he

Collects on his own claim and crafts legislation on behalf of those who

Provided his gold?

This lack of compassion, in itself, should be criminal.

Open to both consumers and builders alike, the 2006 Southern Building Show in Atlanta will feature a huge exhibit area and two showcase homes incorporating the latest and greatest in new building innovations and Earth-friendly products. Among the unique products featured, SpeedHeat’s Generation4™ electric radiant floor heating systems were selected for both the “New & Renew” showcase homes because the products improve comfort and offer energy savings.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) June 2, 2006

For builders and consumers seeking the latest tips and trends in residential construction and remodeling, the Southern Building Show is a must-attend event. The 13th annual show will be held at the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, GA from June 8-10, with the exhibit area being open on Friday and Saturday (June 9-10).

In addition to over 450 exhibits, the show also features tours of two showcase homes including one new construction project and one renovation project. The “new” home is a luxury 7,000 square foot custom home by Dennis McConnell in Virginia Highlands. The “renew” home is a high-end remodeling project in Buckhead by Joe Maddox. Both projects have been built to EarthCraft specifications for air quality, energy efficiency and the use of renewable resources. They also include many innovative new products including Generation4™ electric radiant floor heating systems by SpeedHeat®.

SpeedHeat’s Generation4™ electric radiant floor heating systems were included in both the “new and renew” showcase homes because the products improve comfort, offer energy savings and may help reduce the level of airborne allergens. In the remodeled house, SpeedHeat® is installed in all bathrooms, the master bedroom and the bonus/display room. In the custom home, SpeedHeat® is installed in the large master bathroom and even inside the shower so the floors never feel cold. SpeedHeat will also be featured in the exhibit area at booth 416.

“The Southern Building Show selected our unique products for their showcase homes because ‘floor warming’ is becoming increasingly popular and our products are a perfect upgrade in both new construction and renovation projects,” explains Peter Newman, President of SpeedHeat U. S. “Our Generation4™ systems can be installed under virtually any flooring material and also help conserve energy and create healthier environments. We are honored to be a part of the show and look forward to helping educate builders and consumers about our innovative and affordable warming solutions.”

Bus tours of the projects will run directly from the show, and the tours are open to all attendees. Free exhibit hall passes are available at www. southernbuildingshow. com.

More SpeedHeat® Advantages:

The idea behind electric radiant floor heating (http://www. speedheat. us/comfort_benefits. htm) is really quite simple — by installing a heating element under the flooring material, heat naturally rises and warms the room from the ground up with a soothing radiant effect. While the concept behind SpeedHeat’s patented Generation4™ (G4) heating system is easy to comprehend, the advanced technology behind their products offers many distinct advantages and sets them apart in the industry.

“Because SpeedHeat’s patented Generation4™ heating element is optimally engineered to be ‘in touch’ with floor finishes, it warms floors faster than any other systems and at lower, safer temperatures,” explains Pieter Jansens, Chairman of SpeedHeat International. “Our G4 element improves comfort, health and safety. It also protects sensitive flooring and slashes energy consumption. Furthermore, only SpeedHeat is fully customized to meet the specific needs of each application.”

SpeedHeat® Offers Warming Solutions for the Whole Home:

SpeedHeat offers electric radiant heating solutions that can be installed under virtually any flooring material including: carpet, ceramic tile, stone, floating wood, laminates, vinyl and more. Whether building a new home or remodeling, SpeedHeat’s Generation4™ systems are easy to install in a single room or throughout an entire house. SpeedHeat offers the ultimate in flexibility, control and comfort. Generation4™ products include: TileWarm™ (http://www. speedheat. us/tile_warm. htm), woodBEwarmer™ (http://www. speedheat. us/woodbewarm. htm) and CarpetMate™ (http://www. speedheat. us/carpet_mate. htm).

Another unique “zone heating” option is RugBuddy™ (http://www. speedheat. us/rug_buddy. htm) — the only UL-listed heating mat in the world, approved for use under area rugs. It is an ideal solution when installing fixed electric radiant floor heating is not an option. Like an electric blanket for the floor, RugBuddy™ turns regular area rugs into invisible space heaters and is an ideal solution for warming cold spots in any room of the home or office.

An Innovative Leader for Over 20 Years:

As inventors of Generation4™ electric radiant heating, SpeedHeat has produced quality solutions since 1985. SpeedHeat has offices in 10 countries and is currently heating more than 30 million square feet of space worldwide.

Backed by the Industry’s Best Safety and Satisfaction Guarantees:

SpeedHeat’s feather thin heating element is less than 1/16” in diameter, and the warming panels consist of the looped element laminated between two layers of polyester. The full-surround ground screen is an effective EMR, EMI and RFI shield, and GFCI protection provides absolute electrical safety. All SpeedHeat products have undergone rigorous testing, including complete submersion in water while energized. SpeedHeat’s products are all UL-listed and National Electric Code (NEC) compliant. SpeedHeat stands behind their products with their 100% commitment to quality and satisfaction.

Anadis Commercializing "BioGard" Adjunctive Therapy for HIV & AIDS

Anadis Commercializing "BioGard" Adjunctive Therapy for HIV & AIDS

Anadis (ASX: ANX; OTC: ANDIY) announced today its commercialization of a new product, BioGard™, intended to maintain gastrointestinal and immune system health. The specific formulation may be of particular clinical benefit in persons undergoing antiretroviral therapy for HIV/AIDS. The product is intended to enhance current treatment regimens and improve the efficacy of immune system repair during highly active antiretroviral treatment (HAART) treatment. The gastrointestinal immune system is increasingly recognized as having an important role in the progression of HIV-related immune depletion and local gastro-intestinal symptoms have been a great concern to HIV/AIDS patients. The target market for the product includes over 1 million patients in the U. S., 2 million in Europe and Central Asia and more than 30 million worldwide. BioGard is intended to be marketed as a medical food, used under medical supervision, although available for purchase over-the-counter, and is expected to be launched in 2009 following results from a phase IIIb/IV multi-site clinical trial beginning this year that is an advanced stage of planning.

MELBOURNE, Australia (PRWEB) September 4, 2008

The product's active ingredient is a proprietary oral formulation of antigen-targeted Bovine Colostrum Powder (BCP) that has been approved by Australia's regulatory agency, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The product will be first available in tablet format manufactured and packed in a TGA registered GMP tableting facility. Like other Anadis BCP products, the freeze-dried active ingredients in BioGard tablets is obtained from commercial dairy cow herds utilizing the patented Anadis hyper-immunization technology and deploying unique collection processes to assure quality. The BSE free cows in these herds, as well as being vaccinated for routine cattle pathogens, have been vaccinated with a proprietary Anadis vaccine containing important lipopolysaccarides found in gram negative bacterial cell walls that are implicated as key drivers of AIDS pathogenesis. Data supporting this work was first presented recently by scientists from Murdoch Children's Research Institute, Royal Children's Hospital, Parkville, Victoria and the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, University of Melbourne at the Australian Society for Microbiology annual meeting held in Melbourne.

Anadis is now in advanced discussion with a major AIDS-research institution to test the efficacy of BioGard in a multi-site, randomized double-blind, placebo controlled study. The goal of the study is to measure the effect of combination antiretroviral therapy intensification with BioGard on CD4+ outcomes in HIV-1 infected individuals with suboptimal CD4 response to therapy despite prolonged virologic suppression.

Details of the study will be released at a later time.

Dr. Zeil Rosenberg, CEO of Anadis stated: "Combination anti-retroviral therapy (cART) intensification and use of our new antigen-targeted bovine colostrum added to stable cART may help restore immunological integrity of the intestinal mucosal barrier thereby controlling microbial translocation, diminishing immune activation and resulting in better CD4+ cell reconstitution. This is expected to significantly improve the efficacy and safety profile of drugs in the HIV area."

Dr. Oren Fuerst, VP Business Development of Anadis, stated: "BioGard was developed based on a novel approach related to the inflammation process and is another manifestation of the versatility of our platform. We continue to develop and rapidly commercialize products that are both important to large populations and which have a clear commercial market. In this case, our products may increase the efficacy and safety of drugs with current revenue in excess of $5bn per year."

Anadis Limited (ASX: ANX; OTC: ANDIY) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on antigen-primed, dairy-derived health products. Anadis' proprietary technology enables it to rapidly develop polyclonal antibody and other proteins-based solutions to a range of important diseases. The all-natural colostrum-derived platform, its high safety profile when administered orally and the proprietary methods of manufacturing, allows for short time-frame from bench to market with high manufacturing scalability.

Newly patented fitness product gives every body a personal trainer

Newly patented fitness product gives every body a personal trainer

Cardio workouts will no longer be viewed as a lonely and mundane chore, thanks to a fitness product that combines, for the first time ever, the motivation of a personal trainer with the challenge of an interval-style cardiovascular workout. VO2 Maxed™ Inc., the creator of the Cardio Coach™ Guided Workout, has just released Volume 2 of this innovative and patent approved Series.

(PRWEB) April 30, 2004

The audio workouts provide a cutting-edge, fresh approach to fitness. Until now, exercisers could hire personal trainers to push them through their strength training routines, but were on their own when it came to doing their cardiovascular exercise. Now, with the Cardio Coach™ workouts, available on CD or as MP3 downloads, exercisers have their personal trainer alongside them the entire workout---to guide, motivate and inspire them to success---all while exercising on their favorite stationary exercise machine.

Sean O’Malley, founder and president of VO2 Maxed™, and the “voice behind the coach” on the first two volumes, designed the workouts to overcome traditional exercise program shortfalls. Cardio Coach™ combines the standard method of exertion measurement, monitoring of the heart rate, with a method known as “perceived levels of exertion.” This unique partnership allows the exerciser to control the intensity of the workout based on how he or she feels---an important factor in exercise motivation.

Exercisers of all fitness levels can utilize the vast variety of cardiovascular equipment on the market and get a great workout while using the Cardio Coach™ Guided Workouts. Individuals can also take advantage of the Cardio Coach™ workouts while walking, running or jogging. The Cardio Coach™ workouts utilize “challenges” or “intervals," which are bouts of high intensity exercise followed by lower intensity “rest” periods. By incorporating interval training into a workout routine, a participant can increase metabolism, thus lowering body fat and increasing lean muscle tissue. A bonus: interval training keeps workouts shorter, which means less time spent exercising with better results.

OÂ’MalleyÂ’s goal is to educate and inspire exercisers to put their hearts first, from a health and fitness standpoint and a human standpoint. SeanÂ’s key philosophy begins with the understanding that no fitness product will help until the mind is strong enough to utilize it. While cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of both men and women, statistics show that even knowing the facts, the majority of Americans are still not exercising. OÂ’Malley plans to change that by strengthening the minds of his customers.

Much like Tae-Bo, participants are drawn to the genuine, spiritual and gentle---but motivating---approach of Sean OÂ’Malley. The soundtrack, originally scored music by renowned musician Jeff Order, is dynamic, powerful, and high-energy. And the product is for everyone, those looking for extra motivation, and those needing a reason to keep exercising.

Paige Waehner, a top reviewer for the leading internet website, About. com, comments:

“Sean O'Malley has outdone himself with his latest Cardio Coach CD workout. . . .This Cardio Coach™ CD is an excellent choice for anyone who wants to revive their cardio workouts. The music is fun and Sean motivates you to really push yourself. Pros: Funky music keeps you motivated and Sean's verbal cues push you to a higher intensity. Cons: None! 5 stars!”VO2 Maxed™, dedicated to the creation of quality fitness products, released Volume 1 in January 2001 and, with the newly approved patent, plans to produce new CDs regularly and incorporate an interactive component that will provide health and fitness information directly to users through use of the CD and website.

Both CD sets are available on Amazon. com and the workouts can be purchased on the Cardiocoach. com website as either compact disc or MP3 download for portable music players. Volume 2 contains an added bonus of the instrumental version of the workout.

Regarding the Cardio Coach™ Guided Workout Series, O'Malley says, “This is just the beginning. The first two CDs were created to show people what was possible. Now that our patent has gone through and we’ve created some critical partnerships, you can count on the shape of this country changing in the next few years.”

Volume 3 is now in production and is comprised of originally scored music by Scott Rockenfield, drummer for the well-known rock group, Queensryche.

VO2 Maxed™ and Sean O’Malley can be reached at www. cardiocoach. com.

Health Care Job Seekers: Learn the Secrets of Getting Your Resume Noticed in an Online World

Health Care Job Seekers: Learn the Secrets of Getting Your Resume Noticed in an Online World

HealthcareRecruitment. com, a listing provider for nursing jobs and allied health careers, tells job seekers the best ways to maximize a return on an online resume. Whether searching for physical therapy jobs, pharmacy jobs, or jobs in other industries, following these tips will ensure that your resume looks professional and is found by the right people online.

Remington, Indiana (PRWEB) April 6, 2007

HealthcareRecruitment. com, a listing provider for nursing jobs and allied health careers, tells job seekers the best ways to maximize a return on an online resume. Whether searching for physical therapy jobs, pharmacy jobs, or jobs in other industries, following these tips will ensure that your resume looks professional and is found by the right people online.

The Secrets of Getting Noticed in an Online World - The "Elite 7" of Online Job Searching

Job-seekers, take note. Here are the best ways to get your resume noticed online, courtesy of HealthcareRecruitment. com (www. healthcarerecruitment. com)

1. Know thyself.
Know what it is you'd like to be doing. Do some research first. Understand what job/career you are searching for. Do you want to work in a pharmacy? Be a legal transcriptionist? Smelt iron ore? Discern what exactly it is you want to do.

2. Are you qualified? Check your experience.
Once you've established that you want to be a pharmacist, make sure that you qualify for the position. What have you done in the past, directly or indirectly, that gives you the actual experience or transferable skills?

3. Your resume: It's all about the keywords.
If you want your resume to deliver the goods, make sure that it's keyword-centric. In this way both recruiters and the search technology they use to scan banks of resumes will notice your resume before the others. If you are applying for a travel nursing position, your resume should definitely state that fact! Try "Position Desired: Traveling Nurse" right near the top. Be specific! Narrow your focus and only apply for those jobs that directly apply to you. This will help you to sell yourself more effectively and will increase your chances of being noticed.

4. Dot your "i's" and cross your "t's.
Fill in every category that is requested of you. The more information that you provide, the better your chances are.

Proofread your resume before you post. Resumes with glaring errors--spEEling, punctuation. grammar--will oftentimes be cast aside faster than your computer's cable modem can connect to this page. Have at least one other person look it over, too.

5. Take a shortcut.
"Ctrl + c" and "Ctrl + v" are your best friends. If the site you are posting your resume to has the ability for you to copy and paste a pre-written resume - DO IT! By submitting a pre-written resume, it ensures that you've taken the time to proofread and make sure that it is perfect; that is, of course, assuming you did it the first time. Don't forget to update the old resume to reflect any new facts about your qualifications or experience.

6. Be professional.
Just because you're posting your resume on the internet doesn't make it any less professional. Use common sense! Imagine that you are creating a picture-perfect resume to be printed and hand-delivered to an employer who will first judge you simply based on its appearance.

One of the main forms of communication these days is email. We at HealthcareRecruitment utilize this powerful communication tool to its full potential. When submitting a resume to our site, use a professional-sounding email! Recruiters and employers will quickly disregard job seekers with profane emails. And unless you're applying for a job at a comedy club, drop the name "incredible_goatman" for some version of your real name.

If you need help writing your resume before submitting it, by all means take your time! We offer help in this department.

7. Take advantage - Use our website.
To make the most effective use of the tools that we provide, we recommend searching for the specific jobs that you are interested in. Then submitting your resume to our site will allow you to directly apply to those jobs. By doing so, you will be making your information readily available to the employers/recruiters who work with us and will greatly increase your chances of being contacted for jobs you didn't even know were there!

Here's the advantages we have over the big boys in the job-board industry. Unlike Monster. com or CareerBuilder. com - we only include jobs within the healthcare industry on our site. This allows us to truly concentrate on our niche in the job market and provide you with the best results possible!

Happy Job Hunting! Now you have some extra knowledge to spring ahead and make the process of finding your next job as painless as possible. Go to www. HealthcareRecruitment. com for more tips and more jobs.

S. In addition to giving readers a thorough grounding in the area of tobacco and health, the book provides a comprehensive examination of the historical and contemporary use of tobacco products and of their health and social implications.

The objective of the book is to learn how lessons from history, epidemiology, health behavior, and policy analysis can be combined to understand the nature of, and potential policy responses to, the ongoing epidemic of tobacco-related disease.

Coverage includes history; production of tobacco products; marketing; elucidation of disease links; societal responses; impacts of anti-tobacco policies; industry responses; economics and politics of tobacco; cessation methods; lawsuits against the industry; contemporary policy developments in the U. S.; the global use of tobacco; the future of tobacco use and tobacco control.

Reviewer comments:

(1) This book would be of great interest to faculty and students in most public health and health administration programs and to selected public health practitioners and health care administrators. I would be likely to purchase Tobacco Policy and Control.

(2) This book will be a valuable resource for many in the health sector, from researchers to teachers to students to practitioners of many types.

(3) I would find a reader on tobacco policy and research very useful for my tobacco policy course, since many students do not have a clear overview of the issues and environment of tobacco control.

Aircare Launch New Personal Ioniser in UK

Aircare Launch New Personal Ioniser in UK

A new wearable air cleaning ioniser has been launched in the UK. About the size of a pager, it can be worn anywhere and will protect the user from airborne pollutants and bugs.

(PRWEB) December 10, 2004

A personal ioniser that can be worn around the neck or on your clothing has been launched on the UK market by Aircare Products Ltd.

Managing Director Mr Michael Kearney, said that the ioniser could be worn whilst driving, jogging, at one desk, in hospital on an airplane or wherever poor quality or dangerous air is found.

Ionisers produce negative ions which clean the air and have therapeutic properties. Government figures suggest that over 100,000 people in the UK will pick up a hospital "super-bug" each year and 5000 people will die from this! Approximately 20% of these bugs are airborne and can be destroyed by negative ions before you breathe them in. Just last year, in research carried out in St James's hospital, Leeds, the NHS spent £100k proving that negative ions do indeed destroy hospital super-bugs.

The Personal ioniser could also provide protection against airborne nasties found in aircraft cabins where the air is 50% re-cycled and poorley filtered.

Other obvious areas where a personal air cleaner like the Aircare Personal Ioniser would be very useful include, smokey pubs and restaurants, in the office and whilst driving.

As Mr Kearney says; "Personal ionisers have really taken off in the far east and especially Japan, possibly as a result of recent SARS scares. Everything from toothbrushes to fridges has an ioniser in them these days. We are slowly catching on over here and with so many airborne dangers to our health, it looks like ionisers are going to play an important role in protecting ourselves."
