GROUNDBREAKING INTERNET FITNESS EVENT

The Internet is breaking ground once again, this time in the area of health and fitness. Womanthink. com, a Web site that helps women attain health and happiness, is holding a Virtual 5k Run/Walk for women across the globe.

The event allows participants to train and stay motivated with the help of the Internet community (womanthink. com gives women suggested training plans and sends out regular e-mails to check on their progress). Then on 'race day' (September 30, 2000), women everywhere will run or walk their own personal course wherever they live.

The greatest benefit of the Virtual 5k is that women have the freedom to run or walk at their own level in their own neighborhood yet still feel connected to other women everywhere through the help of the Web site. One race entrant explains that she is using the Virtual 5k to bring together four generations of women who are geographically separated. "My mother runs, my aunt and my grandmother are walkers. We are scattered across the countryÂ…it is neat to know that we will all be out there "together"-four generations running or walking (or strolling!)," she said.

On 'race day,' womanthink. com will be bringing an entire day of live events to participants through last minute tips, interviews with runners and walkers and a post-race raffle. Registration is free and details can be obtained by logging onto womanthink. com at http://www. womanthink. com (http://www. womanthink. com).
