Stress Balls UK Wins Contract to Supply Barclays Bank

Stress Balls UK Wins Contract to Supply Barclays Bank

Stress Balls UK - Europe's leading supplier of custom stress shapes, recently won the yearly contract to supply Barclays Bank with 12,000 cube shaped stress balls.

(PRWEB) February 5, 2007

The majority of the cubes were destined for staff in local call centres and branches, and if you popped in to your local branch (in the UK), you would no doubt see them behind the counter. The remainder of the stress balls (http://www. stressballsuk. com/) were shipped to a call centre in South Africa.

Stress Balls UK were notified that an employee at one of the Barclays Call Centres where the cubes were destined was allergic to latex. Our products are made from 100% polyurethane therefore we could guarantee that no trace elements of latex were present, thus satisfying the Customer in this particular case, that our stress cubes were safe for distribution.

The stress cubes were produced in a size of 50mm x 50mm x 50mm, and were white with a cyan text print on every side - 72,000 prints in total!

WHY A STRESS BALL

The majority of people experience some form of stress at one time or another, which can be brought on by a number of different situations.

If for example you spend endless hours in an office or your situation restricts the amount of time you can take during the day to relax and unwind this is where a few minutes working with a stress ball can help.

Stress balls (http://www. stressballsuk. com/) work the reflexology points in the hand during a moment of tension or anxiety. Physical exercise can be an effective combatant against stress and if you are prone to anger or get upset you may find exercising with a stress ball and breathing deeply, a calming and therefore beneficial experience.

Stress toys (http://www. stressballsuk. com/) on their own are not the complete answer to reducing stress, however due to their size and accessibility they do provide speedy assistance which is only an arm's length away.

Therapeutic

Corporations and many businesses today recognise that their workforce is their greatest asset. Stress Balls UK receive regular orders from forward thinking companies and institutions that value the health and welfare of their colleagues. Freely distributed around the workplace they provide the first port of call to an anxious or concerned workmate. The therapeutic qualities of stress balls are recognised and regular orders have been placed by UK and European Community health services.

New Wellspring Weight Loss Camp in Pennsylvania Gives Teens Best Summer of Their Lives

New Wellspring Weight Loss Camp in Pennsylvania Gives Teens Best Summer of Their Lives

Wellspring Pennsylvania, part of the Wellspring Camps network of weight loss programs for overweight children and teens, is opening its doors in 2009 for a summer filled with fun, friends, and dramatic weight loss.

Washington, Penn. (PRWEB) February 9, 2009

There's a new way for kids to have the best summer of their lives, and it starts in June in Pennsylvania. Whitewater rafting, hiking, mountain biking, Ultimate Frisbee, talent show? Sure, but expect more from the Wellspring Pennsylvania camp. Kids will have an opportunity to transform their lives by losing weight, becoming fit, and adopting a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.

The teen weight loss camp in Pennsylvania is one of three new facilities to open this summer that are part of Wellspring Camps, fitness and weight loss programs for children, teens, and families around the United States, Canada, and England. Wellspring Vancouver and Wellspring Florida also will open for their first season this summer.

Wellspring Pennsylvania, to be located at Washington & Jefferson College near Pittsburgh, will offer sessions of four weeks, six weeks, and eight weeks from June 21 to Aug. 15. Once kids finish a session at Wellspring Camps, "For the most part, it just makes the campers much happier. You're improving everything about their life," says Jane Morrison, Wellspring Pennsylvania director.

Many campers have never been physically active. "Once they try it, they realize they do enjoy it. A lot of kids get especially motivated by the physical activities they're doing," says Morrison, former director of Wellspring California and program supervisor at Wellspring UK.

There will be plenty of activities at Wellspring Pennsylvania. "We've got some great facilities on the campus," Morrison says. Amenities include an indoor pool and track, gym, fitness suite, tennis and basketball courts, and indoor volleyball court. The camp also will offer yoga, strength training, aerobics, kickball, and a campfire each session.

Campers will participate in the Wellspring level system, in which they can move up a level each week and earn rewards. The kids, assessed weekly, walk at least 10,000 steps a day and keep a self-monitoring journal about their food consumption.

Wellspring Pennsylvania staff will include clinical staff, a personal trainer, medic, and nutrition and culinary instructors. "We as a staff have a lot of experience working with young people in the outdoors," Morrison says. "We do a lot of team-building activities and icebreakers in the first few days."

And the team-building pays off.

"The bonds and the friendships they develop at Wellspring do seem to be more than at other camps. I think it's because they have something strong in common. They're sharing the experience, and they're losing the weight," Morrison says. "I enjoy seeing happiness return, and Wellspring puts smiles on people's faces."

The smiles come back to parents' faces as well.

"We have such a strong connection with the families," Morrison says. "When the families arrive to pick up their kids, to see their faces and the amazement there - to be able to witness these kids not only getting healthy but getting that confidence, getting that self-esteem, seeing the value in themselves is just amazing."

Nestled on a beautiful campus in Western Pennsylvania, Wellspring Pennsylvania is the only scientifically based co-ed weight loss camp in the Northeast. Wellspring Pennsylvania caters to boys and girls ages 11-18 for a fun-filled summer of new experiences, new friends, and dramatic weight loss.

Wellspring is a proud member of CRC Health Group, which offers the most comprehensive network of specialized behavioral healthcare services in the nation. With the largest array of personalized treatment options, individuals, families, and professionals can choose the most appropriate setting for their behavioral, addiction, weight management, and therapeutic education needs. The exhibit is expected to bring in thousands of businesspeople from Colorado and Wyoming wanting to network with and learn from their peers in the industry.

SurePayroll Named as Finalist in 2008 American Business Awards&#8480

SurePayroll Named as Finalist in 2008 American Business Awards℠

Online Payroll Provider Recognized for Two Stevie Categories: Customer Care and Best New Product/Service, Financial Services

Glenview, IL (PRWEB) May 16, 2008

SurePayroll (http://www. surepayroll. com/default. asp) was named a finalist in two categories of the 2008 American Business Awards, receiving recognition as one of the strongest entrants in both Best Customer Service Organization/Department and Best New Product or Service - Financial Services.

Hailed as "the business world's own Oscars" (New York Post, April 27, 2005), The American Business Awards (or Stevie® Awards) are the only national, all-encompassing awards program honoring great performances in business.

More than 2,600 entries from companies of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted for consideration in more than 40 categories. SurePayroll will be competing in the Best Customer Service Organization/Department category and its new SureAdvisor HR and compliance resources service will compete in the Best New Product or Service - Financial Services category.

"ABA entries grew more than 30% this year, so being named a finalist is more of an accomplishment than ever before," said Michael Gallagher, founder and president of The Stevie Awards.

SurePayroll's full-service online solution is unique in the industry. While small businesses find online payroll services appealing for their affordability and 24-hour convenience, online services are often "at your own risk," leaving customers to handle their own tax deposits and filings, and providing limited customer support. SurePayroll has taken the online experience to the next level, providing affordability, convenience and a robust service offering delivered by passionate payroll experts who own the worries of customers. When a business owner becomes a customer, they can count on unlimited, toll-free, 6-days-a-week support from U. S.-based representatives, fully-searchable online support and a dedicated tax department that guarantees the resolution of IRS payroll tax issues.

In the last year, SurePayroll expanded its service to include HR and compliance resource tools designed to protect small businesses from fines and give them access to tools that help them run their offices more efficiently. SureAdvisor serves as a one-stop shop for compliance posters, business forms, HR how-to guides and more. It is the online payroll industry's first program to help small business owners manage their compliance and human resource issues, offering a $25,000 guarantee that users will remain in compliance as it relates to labor law postings. SureAdvisor is also the only compliance and HR Software as a Service (SaaS) program that is integrated with a proven payroll service at no additional cost.

"We are honored to be recognized by the American Business Awards for our customer care and SureAdvisor service," said SurePayroll President Michael Alter. "These awards acknowledge the high caliber of our employees and their unwavering commitment to providing our customers with the tools they need to effectively manage their growing businesses."

Stevie Award winners will be announced during the annual gala on Thursday, June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. More than 600 executives from across the U. S.A. are expected to attend. The ceremonies will be broadcast on radio nationwide by the Business TalkRadio Network and hosted by Liz Claman of FOX Business Network.

More information about SurePayroll is available at www. surepayroll. com. Details about The American Business Awards and the list of finalists in all categories are available at www. stevieawards. com/aba (http://www. stevieawards. com/aba).

Green Bag Lunch Invites Chicago Schools to Take the Green Pledge on Earth Day

Green Bag Lunch Invites Chicago Schools to Take the Green Pledge on Earth Day

As schools across the US celebrate Earth Day on April 22, students experience a heightened awareness of the global climate crisis. With an innovative new program, one local company, Green Bag Lunch, seeks to capture that awareness and turn it into action every month, rather than just once a year.

Chicago (PRWEB) April 6, 2009

Members of the Green Bag Lunch team say they see small bit of evidence of "greening" in many of the schools they visit. But, says Co-Founder, Anne Weber, "The lunch room remains an area of monumental waste. We see paper recycling bins overflowing in classrooms, but in the lunchroom, it's plastic garbage bags overflowing with plastic and packaging." In fact, the EPA estimates every child in school generates 67 pounds of garbage each school year at lunch and that the lunchroom is the highest generator of waste, second only to office paper--an average school generating 9.5 tons of lunch waste each year.

Green Bag Lunch, now Chicago's premier healthy lunch option for schools and camps, started two years ago and was the first service of its kind to make sustainability part of its core daily practice. Green Bag Lunch has grown to regularly serve more than 2 dozen schools from Hyde Park to the North Shore. Says co-founder Dave Feinberg, "Health and convenience are the two primary motivators for our customers. With that said, however, our ability to help schools be greener is one of our most powerful tools."

To help schools educate students and staff, motivate them to change their behavior and even make it easier to be "green", Green Bag Lunch is introducing The Green Pledge Program. Participating schools will receive a Green Gift Basket, a sustainability coaching session, and the ability for students & staff to order healthy, 100% eco-friendly lunches once a month from Green Bag Lunch. Interested schools can learn more information at http://www. GreenBagLunch. com (http://www. GreenBagLunch. com).

"Adopting green habits happens little by little. The first step is education. The second step is fitting eco-friendly habits into our daily routine. We are here to help schools with both. We have an incredible opportunity to capture the enthusiasm of youth!"

About Green Bag Lunch:
Green Bag Lunch, LLC is based in Evanston, Illinois. Green Bag Lunch, LLC was founded in Spring of 2007, by North Shore parents who actively live and work in the communities they now serve. Green Bag Lunch makes and delivers healthy, eco-friendly lunches to thousands of kids at Chicago-area school s and camps each month. The mission of Green Bag Lunch is: Healthy kids living on a healthy planet.

Go Paperless, New Book Tells How

Go Paperless, New Book Tells How

New book -- Paperless Office, from Myth to Reality -- is jam-packed with information, advice, and step-by-step instructions on how to cut paper records by 80%. Learn more at www. documentmanagementbook. com.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) August 9, 2006

Finally, the perfect guide for people searching for advice on converting to electronic document imaging management, the new eBook, Paperless Office, from Myth to Reality. Technology advances such as low cost, high speed, personal duplex document imaging scanners and ultra-high capacity disk drives have at last eliminated technical barriers that made conversion to a paperless office environment difficult. This book provides timesaving ideas in a quick, easy-to-read, jargon free way that makes going paperless with document imaging a snap. See more at www. documentmanagementbook. com.

Primarily for individual record keeping and paper-intensive businesses such as attorneys, accountants, health care professionals, local government and others who keep many manila folders, Paperless Office, from Myth to Reality, presents everything you need to know to get started. Advice is given on document imaging scanners and hardware, FREE document imaging management software, setting up your record management system, creating a simple, easy-to-use, indexless document imaging filing system, and day-to-day processing. For example, advice you get on selecting the right document imaging scanner saves you from spending too much while taking big advantage of the FREE document management software bundled with the scanner. To find out more about the book, go to www. documentmanagementbook. com.

“People have been telling me they are thinking about going paperless but were unsure how to go about it,” reports Pete Harnack, the book’s author. “Previously, electronic document image management was complicated and hard to implement because of technology limitations. That’s changed now. The right technology is available. Document management software is inexpensive. And if you set up your system right in the first place, you can scan and store documents fast without indexing, avoiding the most time consuming step.”

Until now, information on going paperless was focused to the needs of high-end, large company solutions. Even with changes in technology, information has been fragmented about how to put it all together. It really takes someone totally comfortable with both technology and paper-based records to pull all the parts together. Mr. Harnack’s dream was to create a self-help resource for people buried in paper that puts all the key factors together, in an easy-to-read, jargon free way so that going paperless is a very realistic goal.

In keeping with the spirit of “Paperless Office”, the book is an eBook (but you can print it if you desire). A FREE trial download that lets you read the book’s Introduction can be found at www. documentmanagementbook. com/trialdownload. html (http://www. documentmanagementbook. com/trialdownload. html ).

Learn about new low cost, fast duplex imaging scanners that will take a folder with 100 pages and convert it into an image file in less than 4 minutes (both sides of the paper)! (To learn more about the author’s scanner, go to www. documentmanagementbook. com/reviews (http://www. documentmanagementbook. com/reviews)). Learn how you can store the equivalent of 120, 4-drawer file cabinets worth of files on a single disk that costs less than $60 (YES, that’s right 120 cabinets). Learn how to use document management software that comes FREE with the scanner that will do quite nicely for most personal and small business needs (To learn more about the FREE software, go to www. documentmanagementbook. com/software. html (http://www. documentmanagementbook. com/software. html)) . Get a valuable list of predefined file categories that virtually eliminates mis-filing. And learn how to avoid time consuming indexing and yet get fast, reliable access to all your key documents.

The author doesn’t advocate completely paperless. In fact, he clearly covers what should be kept in paper form, when to convert to images immediately and when to convert later, how to preserve paper and media (CD & DVDs), where to keep paper (fire proof safe, safe deposit box) and how long to keep certain records. All this adds up to the perfect blend of paperless and paper, optimized for maximum productivity.

Going paperless has many benefits. They include an increase in personal productivity, cost cuts, less clutter, freed up space, instant record access, avoid refiling, document backup in case of theft, fire or natural disaster, portable records so you can work with records regardless of your location, and you avoid off-site record storage cost. All-in-all, there is a great payback on your investment when you get this good advice. The author suggests most people can implement a great document imaging system for under $800 – about the cost of a good 4-drawer lateral file.

New Book Offers Comprehensive Global Analysis of Protected Areas

New Book Offers Comprehensive Global Analysis of Protected Areas

The World's Protected Areas provides the most detailed assessment ever of the worldwide distribution and conservation status of protected areas

Barcelona, Spain (Vocus) October 6, 2008

Today, scientists attending the World Conservation Congress released a new book, The World's Protected Areas, which captures the input of more than 100 experts from around the world on one of the most potent tools available for nature conservation: protected areas.

"Protecting nature's special places is something that lies close to the hearts of millions of people the world over. Their benefits are immense, for biodiversity and for people," said Mark Spalding, senior marine scientist with The Nature Conservancy (http://www. nature. org/) and one of the lead editors and contributing authors of The World's Protected Areas. "Amidst the doom and gloom of the many very real problems facing the planet, it's great to step back and see what we've achieved."

The book examines the relationship between people and protected areas, investigates threats and opportunities, cites the history of protected areas, provides expert conservation advice and celebrates the success of protected areas around the world.

With more than 114,000 sites, protected areas cover 19 million km², equivalent to 12.9 percent of the Earth's land surface. This is a larger area than all of the world's croplands combined and 18 times larger than the combined area of the world's urban landscapes. Protected areas have been established in every country and territory on earth as a means to protect nature as well as the species and livelihoods that rely on a particular ecosystem. Protected areas also safeguard water supplies, prevent erosion, replenish fish-stocks, offer places of solace and recreation, and store a treasure-trove of genetic diversity for future pharmaceuticals and crops.

Patterns and gaps
"The progress we have made in protecting areas on land is certainly heartening," says Jon Hutton, Director of the United Nations Environment Programme's World Conservation Monitoring Centre, which co-ordinated the work. "Yet the book also carries strong messages of caution. Many habitats, thousands of species, even entire biomes are largely absent from the world's protected areas networks, and for some of these time is running out."

The World's Protected Areas also draws particular attention to the world's oceans, because less than 1 percent of our seas are effectively protected,

"Bringing protected areas up to scale in all of the world's oceans is a top priority," Spalding added. "It's not just a case of protecting beautiful places or vulnerable species, marine protected areas can be a lifeline to fishers, will help establish food security and support the replenishment of dwindling and poorly managed fish-stocks."

Freshwater systems are also a source of concern. Although large areas of wetlands, lakes and rivers appear to be incorporated within existing protected areas, they remain vulnerable to external influences such as dams, irrigation and pollution, which are degrading rivers and lakes around the world.

Other ecosystems singled out for concern include tropical dry forests, temperate grasslands, cold deserts and semi-deserts, and Mediterranean systems.

Yet the authors point out that even "protected" areas are not free from danger. The book considers the catalogue of threats that are impacting our protected areas, from mismanagement to alien species invasions. As is so often the case, climate change is also likely to have a massive impact on these habitats.

Spalding noted that increasing temperatures, alongside wetter or drier or more extreme conditions, will fundamentally alter the living conditions in every place on the planet. He added that in isolation, individual protected areas start to look very vulnerable, especially as climate change takes "normal" growing conditions to other places. As experts identify in the book, there is no simple solution, but they conclude that it is critical to identify and protect more resilient places, and to design networks of protected areas, allowing species to move freely across wider landscapes and perhaps even considering interventions such as translocations and introductions of species as the impacts start to take hold.

Into the Future
The final section of The World's Protected Areas takes a tour around the world, through the eyes of regional experts. History, culture, traditions, politics and economics have led to a great variety of systems and approaches, but protected areas are now firmly established everywhere. They have become one of the most extensive land-use allocations on the planet, but they are still increasing.

The benefits of protected areas - to economies, cultures, and traditions, to livelihoods, human health and of course to biodiversity - are unequivocal. Under commitments made through the Convention on Biological Diversity, all nations have committed to do more and to close gaps in the network and to ensure a more secure future for life on earth.

Study Finds Transitions Lifestyle System Twice As Good As Popular Diets

Study Finds Transitions Lifestyle System Twice As Good As Popular Diets

Low-Glycemic System Significantly Outperforms Other Diets

GREENSBORO, N. C. (PRWEB) December 20, 2005 —

Transitions Lifestyle System, a low-glycemic weight management system, showed nearly double the weight loss results when compared to popular diets Atkins, Ornish, Weight Watchers and Zone, according to a recent study published in the December 2005 issue of Alternative & Complementary Therapies. Study results also showed that the Transitions Lifestyle System reduced waist circumference by three times that of the same popular diets.

The study—“Weight Loss, Body Measurements, and Compliance: A 12-Week Total Lifestyle Intervention Pilot Study,” was lead by Shari Lieberman, Ph. D. It followed 56 participants through the 12-week Transitions Lifestyle System™ program.

The Transitions Lifestyle System uses the low-glycemic-index model of dieting. Glycemic index (GI) is a numerical measure of how food elevates blood sugar—a higher GI number indicates a higher likelihood of a blood sugar spike. Popular with diabetics looking to control blood sugar spikes, low-GI diets have been studied and utilized effectively for years. For this study, participants met once per week with a co-investigator and other participants in the study. During the meetings, participants learned how to follow a low-glycemic regimen, exercise properly and learned how stress can affect weight loss.

Results from the study were compared to a 2005 JAMA study that compared popular diets Atkins, Ornish, Weight Watchers and Zone for weight loss and heart disease risk reduction. In that study, overall weight loss in kilograms after 12 months was 2.1 for Atkins, 3.3 for Ornish, 3.0 for Weight Watchers and 3.2 for Zone. Waist circumference change in centimeters after 12 months was -2.5 for Atkins, -2.2 for Ornish, -3.3 for Weight Watchers and -2.9 for Zone.

At 12 weeks, participants in the Transitions System study showed a weight loss of 6.29 kg, nearly twice that of the popular diets studied. Waist circumference reduction in the Transitions study was nearly triple that of the popular diets at -9.73cm.

The study also showed Transitions Lifestyle System to be more effective in much less time. The results realized on the Transitions Lifestyle System took only 12 weeks versus one year on Atkins, Ornish, Weight Watchers and Zone diets.

“This pilot study shows that dieting is about more than eating less,” said Lieberman, best-selling author and co-investigator in the study. “The Transitions system teaches people how to lose weight by following a low-glycemic lifestyle that doesn’t rely on pre-packaged meals or unhealthy crash-dieting. Successful weight loss comes from addressing unhealthy habits both at and away from the table.”

Transitions Lifestyle System is available exclusively through Market America’s independent distributors. To locate a local distributor visit marketamerica. com or call (800) 862-6561.

2010 Medicare Part D Defined Standard Benefit Parameters Online at Q1Medicare. com

2010 Medicare Part D Defined Standard Benefit Parameters Online at Q1Medicare. com

Q1Medicare. com now has the final 2010 Medicare Part D Defined Standard Benefit parameters online highlighting how the Medicare Part D plans have changed over the past several years. The final 2010 Part D Defined Standard Benefit parameters increased slightly from the preliminary figures released by CMS in late-February. Medicare beneficiaries who enroll in a 2010 Medicare Part D prescription drug plan modeled after the CMS Defined Standard Benefit can expect a 4.66% increase in their 2010 Medicare Part D prescription drug plan parameters such as their initial deductible and Donut Hole limits. Q1Medicare. com has also updated their 2010 PDP-Planner to help the Medicare community better understand how these 2010 changes will affect next year's prescription drug spending.

Saint Augustine, FL (Vocus) June 9, 2009

Q1Medicare. com now has the final 2010 Medicare Part D Defined Standard Benefit parameters online along with the Part D plan parameters from the past years. A comparison of the Medicare Part D Defined Standard Benefits from 2006 through 2010 can be viewed at: Q1Medicare. com/2010 (http://www. q1medicare. com/PartD-The-2010-Medicare-Part-D-Outlook. php).

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) publish the Part D Defined Standard Benefit parameters each year and originally released the preliminary 2010 parameters for the Defined Standard Benefit in February showing a projected 3.13% increase over the 2009 Part D plan parameters. In the final version, CMS updated the 2010 Medicare Part D Defined Standard Benefit parameters to represent an increase of 4.66% over the 2009 values. The parameters include such Part D plan variables as the initial deductible, as well as the Initial Coverage Limit and the Out-of-Pocket Threshold, which together form the boundaries of the Donut Hole or Coverage Gap.

"Back in February, we brought the preliminary 2010 parameters online and have now updated our site and tools to reflect the final version as released by CMS," notes Dr. Susan Johnson, Technical Director and co-founder of Q1Group LLC. "Although in practice, most Part D plan designs deviate from the CMS Defined Standard Benefit, the 2010 parameters give us an insight into what we can expect from 2010 prescription drug plans."

Medicare beneficiaries who decide to enroll in a 2010 Part D prescription drug plan modeled after the CMS Defined Standard Benefit will see their 2010 initial annual deductible increase to $310 from the current 2009 value of $295. Medicare beneficiaries will also enter the 2010 Donut Hole a little later when their total retail drug costs reach $2,830, as compared to this year's 2009 Initial Coverage Limit of $2,700. On the downside, 2010 Medicare Part D beneficiaries will exit the Donut Hole when they personally spend over $4,550 out of pocket on prescription drugs. The current 2009 Out-of-Pocket threshold is $4,350.

Q1Medicare. com has also updated their 2010 PDP-Planner tool (http://www. q1medicare. com/PartD-PartDCoverageGapCalculator10Xphp. php) to reflect the final CMS Part D Defined Standard Benefit parameters. PDP-Planner is designed to show prescription drug spending across the year and through the phases of a Part D plan, with the goal of helping the Medicare community estimate how they might better prepare or budget for next year's prescription drug costs.

"We designed our PDP-Planner so that users can enter estimated retail prescription costs based on their current drug spending and have the flexibility to change Medicare Part D plan parameters values, such as the initial deductible, to get an idea of how they will move through the phases of their Part D plan," explained Dr. Johnson. "We also provide a PDP-Planner example (http://www. q1medicare. com/PartD-PartDCoverageGapCalculator10Xphp. php? pgtype=ex1) for people who are just getting started."

PDP-Planner is available on Q1Medicare. com along with other online tools, a section of Frequently Asked Questions (http://www. q1medicare. com/PartD-FAQsYourQuestionAnswerCenterXphp. php), a free monthly Medicare Part D Newsletter (http://www. q1medicare. com/PartD-StayingInformedOn-Medicare-PartD. php) and tutorials all designed to help Medicare beneficiaries, advocates, advisors, and insurance agents navigate the Medicare prescription drug program.

Happiness in Business: 5 Easy Tips for Leaders to Create a More Positive Workplace

Happiness in Business: 5 Easy Tips for Leaders to Create a More Positive Workplace

Are you happy yet? Is the team happy? Are employees showing up for work and participating with enthusiasm? Are they high performing and productive -- or costing the company thousands in health care and turnover costs? And how about customers -- are they happy? Are they rewarding you with loyalty and referrals? Despite a growing body of evidence, most businesses are ignoring the positive impact of happiness in business. Authentic happiness expert JoAnna Brandi says, "It's time business leaders wake up to the new realities of the 21st century work world," and offers five easy ways to make the workplace a happier one.

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) January 29, 2007

Ever notice how when you feel happy at work, your job performance is more productive? Ever notice that when you're unhappy at work -- feeling confused, stressed or unappreciated -- productivity diminishes?

If you haven't you should, says Authentic Happiness expert and Customer Care Coach® publisher JoAnna Brandi. She explains, "Stories on the relationship between workplace happiness and employee productivity have made the cover of The Economist and have been featured in The New York Times Magazine and The Wall Street Journal.

"It's time for business leaders to take their heads out of the sand and realize that while they're not responsible for each employee's individual happiness, they are responsible for creating a work environment where employees feel good about themselves, and their work."

Brandi points out that more and more statistics prove the inextricable link between the work environment and employee happiness, as well as between employee happiness and customer happiness. She says, "It makes perfect sense. When employees feel good about coming to work, when they feel appreciated and they know they make an important contribution to the success of the company, they're going to be more generous in the contributions they make to the company's success."

Business leaders, managers, team leaders and supervisors are in the positions to have the greatest impact on creating a positive workplace. Brandi recommends they put her five easy tips into action to lift the "happiness quotient" at work:

1) Positivity -- Be positive, and focus on the positive in both the people around you and in the company in general. This means you're looking at the strengths in others and at what the business does well, rather than focusing on the people's weaknesses and the company's shortcomings.

2) Appreciation -- This is one of the deepest human needs. Make sure you let people know how you appreciate when they do a good job. Let customers know you appreciate them, too.

3) Recognition and Reward -- As you notice more and more of what people are doing "right," be sure to reward and recognize their behaviors both tangibly and intangibly.

4) Clarity -- Workplace negativity symptoms like stress, disappointment and frustration may be indicators that employees do not have a clear picture of their role in the company or of your expectations of them. Ask employees if they have what they need to get their jobs done and engage them in conversations about their positions. Answer their questions clearly and thoroughly.

5) Connection -- Let everyone know the special part they play in touching customers' lives and creating success in the company. When customer loyalty, customer retention or profits increase, be sure to celebrate the employee efforts that led to those achievements. People who know they make a difference at work are more likely to be happy on the job -- making them less likely to leave it.

VestiTrak® Heeds Presidential Call for Medical Liability Reform

VestiTrak® Heeds Presidential Call for Medical Liability Reform

The medical software solution simplifies patient follow-up for Ob/Gyn providers.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) February 15, 2005

In response to President George W. BushÂ’s call for medical liability (http://www. VestiTrak. com) reforms, VestiTrak announces the availability of their medical software (http://www. VestiTrak. com) solution for Ob/Gyn healthcare providers. A fully automated solution for patient follow-up, tracking and risk-management, VestiTrak enhances and streamlines the patient follow-up process, lowers administrative costs and increases revenues, in addition to lowering physician liability. A detailed presentation is available at http://www. vestitrak. com/demo. htm (http://www. vestitrak. com/demo. htm).

“We have the right solution to meet the need and we are making a difference in lowering medical liability,” explained Celine Kapila, President of VestiTrak.

According to the official government website (http://www. whitehouse. gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030116.html), Ob/Gyn insurance premiums in Pennsylvania alone have increased by an alarming 125% since 1998. President Bush proposes a national standard of proven, efficient and reasonable medical information technology (http://www. whitehouse. gov/news/releases/2005/01/20050127-2.html) measures to potentially reduce costs and improve health care quality by lowering medical liability costs and premiums.

The VestiTrak risk management system reduces physician liability by fully automating the patient follow-up and recall process. Automatic notification of abnormal test results, missed appointments and missing lab results improves the quality of patient care and eliminates the unnecessary costs, both financially and physically, created when patients “fall through the cracks.”

The fully customizable program creates an audit trail of follow-up activity for each patient and eliminates the need for data entry by directly transmitting lab results into a specific patientÂ’s file. In addition, the VestiTrak system generates over 50 management reports designed to provide valuable data in several practice areas. DEA News: Cardinal Health Inc., Agrees To Pay $34 Million To Settle Claims That it Failed To Report Suspicious Sales of Widely-Abused Controlled Substances

Cardinal Health Inc., one of the nation’s largest distributors of pharmaceutical drugs, has agreed to settle allegations that it violated federal reporting provisions relating to its handling of certain controlled substances regulated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Under the agreement, settled out of court, between the company and seven U. S. Attorney’s Offices, Cardinal Health agreed to pay $34,000,000 in civil penalties for alleged violations of its obligations under the Controlled Substances Act.

Washington, DC (Vocus) October 3, 2008

Cardinal Health Inc., one of the nation’s largest distributors of pharmaceutical drugs, has agreed to settle allegations that it violated federal reporting provisions relating to its handling of certain controlled substances regulated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Under the agreement, settled out of court, between the company and seven U. S. Attorney’s Offices, Cardinal Health agreed to pay $34,000,000 in civil penalties for alleged violations of its obligations under the Controlled Substances Act.

Cardinal Health, which operates 27 DEA-registered distribution facilities, failed to report to DEA suspicious orders of hydrocodone that it then distributed to pharmacies that filled illegitimate prescriptions originating from rogue Internet pharmacy Web sites. These prescriptions violated applicable Federal and State law because they were not issued for a legitimate medical purpose by physicians acting within the usual course of professional practice. Cardinal’s conduct allowed the “diversion” of millions of dosage units of hydrocodone from legitimate to non-legitimate channels. DEA regulations require all manufacturers and distributors to report suspicious orders of controlled substances and, more specifically, to “design and operate a system to disclose to the registrant suspicious orders of controlled substances.” Registrants are required to inform DEA of suspicious orders upon discovery.

“Despite DEA’s repeated attempts to educate Cardinal Health on diversion awareness and prevention, Cardinal engaged in a pattern of failing to report blatantly suspicious orders for controlled substances filled by its distribution facilities located throughout the United States,” said DEA Acting Administrator Michele M. Leonhart. “Cardinal’s negligent conduct contributed to our nation’s serious pharmaceutical abuse problem. This substantial civil penalty underscores DEA’s determination to prevent pharmaceutical diversion and protect the public health and safety by continuing to hold companies responsible if they fail to fulfill their obligations under the Controlled Substance Act.”

Seven Cardinal Health distribution centers received and filled thousands of suspicious orders placed by pharmacies participating in illicit Internet schemes, but failed to report the orders to DEA. They did so even after an Aug. 22, 2005, meeting at which DEA officials met with and warned Cardinal officials about excessive sales of their products to pharmacies filling illegal online prescriptions. The pharmacies filled purported online “prescriptions” for hydrocodone (contained in drugs such as Vicodin), but the prescriptions were issued outside the normal course of professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose. The U. S. Attorneys allege that the orders that Cardinal received from these pharmacies, and others, were unusually large, unusually frequent and/or deviated substantially from the normal pattern.

“The abuse of prescription medications is a significant and growing problem, and there is a widespread misconception that abuse of these substances is somehow safer than the abuse of illegal drugs such as cocaine, meth and heroin,” said Associate Deputy Attorney General Stuart Nash. “Today's settlement makes clear that the Department of Justice is committed to doing its part to curtail illegal access to these dangerous drugs.”

Hydrocodone is the generic name of a prescription painkiller that is classified under federal narcotics law as a Schedule III controlled substance. Nonmedical use of prescription drugs ranks second only to marijuana as the most prevalent category of drug abuse. Hydrocodone is the most commonly diverted and abused controlled pharmaceutical in the United States.

The Controlled Substances Act is the primary federal law regulating the flow of controlled substances into the marketplace for medical purposes. Among other requirements, the Act requires that distributors register with DEA to sell controlled substances to retail pharmacies and report to DEA suspicious orders of controlled substances. The Act authorizes the imposition of up to a $10,000 civil penalty for each violation of the reporting requirement.

The civil penalty will be collected by the U. S. Attorney’s Office in each of the following districts, in the amounts indicated:

Middle District of Florida $16,000,000
Southern District of Texas $8,000,000
Western District of Washington $3,500,000
District of New Jersey $3,000,000
Northern District of Georgia $1,500,000
Central District of California $1,000,000
District of Colorado $1,000,000

This case was investigated by the DEA and handled by attorneys from DEA’s Office of Chief Counsel and trial attorneys from the following U. S. Attorneys’ Offices: Middle District of Florida, Southern District of Texas, Western District of Washington, District of New Jersey, Northern District of Georgia, Central District of California and District of Colorado. Additional assistance was provided by the Criminal Division’s Narcotics and Dangerous Drug Section.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) January 30, 2006

Mobile Productivity, Inc., (MPi) a premier supplier of proprietary diagnostic, repair information and service merchandising solutions to the automotive industry, today announced that the number of dealers using its customized Automotive Repair Information System, (ARGIS™) has surpassed 100 nationwide.

“We are excited to arrive at this milestone," said Les Silver, MPi President and CEO. “Many dealers are searching for ways to better position their service departments with customers and increase service and parts business. ARGIS helps build trustworthiness and customer loyalty by performing a better inspection and doing a superior job of explaining needed repairs to the customer. As a result, MPi dealers are seeing superior vehicle inspection penetration rates and realizing benefits that average $100 to $125 in additional needed repairs per vehicle inspection, a substantial increase in revenue per RO,” Silver added.

“It’s a difficult time in our industry, dealers need to find ways to grow their business but at the same time make prudent decisions when it comes to spending money. Our product has demonstrated the ability to provide customers with a sizable return on their investment,” stated David Boyle, MPi Senior VP of Sales and Marketing. “Our dealers are seeing up to an 8 to 1 return in incremental gross profit, as a result we have been able to gain sales traction in a relatively short period of time,” Boyle went on to say.

With ARGIS, service advisors and technicians have the ability to increase repair sales by offering customized and detailed vehicle inspections that evaluate the complete “health” of the customer’s vehicle.

Upon completion of the inspection process, the customer receives a full color, detailed but easy to understand report that highlights the “health” status of their vehicle. The report provides complete explanations regarding the repair needs, which includes pictures and a detailed cost analysis. The reports are developed to better educate the customer about their vehicle safety and maintenance.

Combined with the inspection component the ARGIS software also provides technicians “state of the art” patent pending access to the factory service information vital to technician working on today’s vehicles. In addition to the increased service revenue ARGIS dealers are seeing a 35% increase in shop productivity and a substantial lift in “fixed right the first time” customer satisfaction.

The latest version of ARGIS, which includes additional inspection, up-sell and repair processes measured and tracked by a series of management reports, will be showcased at the 2006 NADA Show and Convention in Orlando, FL, February 11-14 at booth 3514. October Declared National Work and Family Month U. S. Senate and House of Representatives Pass Resolutions

Contact: Marcia G. Rhodes, 202-315-5500 or 480-304-6885 Recognizing the importance of employers and employees working together to achieve more balance between work and family, Congress has declared October to be National Work and Family Month. The recognition was made official on October 14, when the U. S. Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 296 and the House of Representatives unanimously passed House Resolution 768.

Washington, D. C. (PRWEB) October 16, 2009

Recognizing the importance of employers and employees working together to achieve more balance between work and family, Congress has declared October to be National Work and Family Month. The recognition was made official on October 14, when the U. S. Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 296 (http://frwebgate. access. gpo. gov/cgi-bin/getdoc. cgi? dbname=111_cong_bills&docid=f:sr296is. txt. pdf) and the House of Representatives unanimously passed House Resolution 768 (http://frwebgate. access. gpo. gov/cgi-bin/getdoc. cgi? dbname=111_cong_bills&docid=f:hr768eh. txt. pdf). Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Michael Crapo (R-ID), co-chairs of the Senate Workplace Flexibility Study Group, were the lead sponsors in the Senate. Reps. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Todd Platts (R-PA) were the lead sponsors of the House resolution for the second year in a row. McCarthy is Chairwoman and Platts is Ranking Member of the Healthy Families and Communities Subcommittee of the House Education and Labor Committee.

Statements from the lead sponsors on the passage of the resolutions:

"As the mother of twin boys, I understand many of the challenges working families face while attempting to balance both work and family obligations," said Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.). "I was proud to sponsor the resolution designating October 2009 as National Work and Family Month with Senator Crapo to highlight this issue. In addition, through our work on the bipartisan Senate study group, we have brought Senate staff together to take a critical look at the research and data available on workplace flexibility and engage in meaningful discussions on how increased flexibility can help both employers and employees succeed. I appreciate the leadership that WorldatWork is providing in this area, and I look forward to other opportunities to partner with them in the future."

"Studies show that a healthy balance between work and family will produce happier and more productive employees, which will benefit the rest of society as well as the economy," said Senator Michael Crapo (R-ID). "This is why I co-sponsored Senate Resolution 296, with Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas, which designates October 2009 as ‘National Work and Family Month.' A lack of job flexibility for working parents negatively affects children's health in ways that range from children being unable to make necessary doctors' appointments to children receiving inadequate early care, which leads to more severe and prolonged illness."

"I was pleased when the House of Representatives unanimously passed my resolution to recognize October as National Work and Family Month. We must continue to do all we can to promote a healthier and more flexible work environment," said Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). "Research has shown that having a more flexible work environment is an inexpensive, effective way to motivate and retain top talent. I commend and thank all the businesses, employees, and organizations all over the country, including WorldatWork, as they celebrate National Work and Family Month."

"Many working parents, particularly those in lower-wage occupations, find it difficult to balance the demands of the workplace and the demands of home and family," said Congressman Todd Platts (R-PA). "Recognizing October as ‘National Work and Family Month' encourages employers and employees to work together to achieve more flexible work environments, thereby improving morale and increasing productivity."

The renewed endorsement by Congress coincides with the sixth anniversary of National Work & Family Month, a national education campaign led by Alliance for Work-Life Progress, an affiliate of WorldatWork, to raise awareness among employers about the value of work-life effectiveness as a business imperative.

"This bi-partisan resolution shows that our legislators acknowledge the importance of employer-sponsored work-life programs, especially in this stressful economic climate," said Cara Welch, public policy director for WorldatWork. "We are thrilled by the passage of this legislation. And WorldatWork is especially grateful to Sens. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Michael Crapo (R-ID), Reps. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) and Todd Platts (R-PA) and all the co-sponsors, all of whom have been longtime champions of these issues."

Senate Resolution 296 has the following co-sponsors:
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)
Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-CT)
Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI)
Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ)

House Resolution 768 has the following co-sponsors:
Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI)
Rep. Corrine Brown (D-FL)
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO)
Rep. Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT)
Rep. Raul M. Grijalva (D-AZ)

First BioDiesel Station Opens in New Hampshire

First BioDiesel Station Opens in New Hampshire

– World Energy Teams-Up With Global E To Open Up New Biodiesel Station -

Chelsea, Mass (PRWEB) December 4, 2003

World Energy Alternatives, LLC, the leading supplier of biodiesel, biodiesel blends and other biofuels today announced the opening of New HampshireÂ’s first biodiesel station.

Global E will be supplying World Energy Biodiesel to FlemingÂ’s Shell Convenience Store located at 99B Route 9, West Chesterfield, NH. FlemingÂ’s will be offering the public B20, or a 20% blend of biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel. Biodiesel is a clean burning, renewable fuel that is made from renewable sources such as soybean oil, grown in the United States.

In addition to its renewable content, biodiesel also significantly reduces emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently released a comprehensive technical report of biodiesel emissions data that shows the exhaust emissions of particulate matter from pure

Biodiesel are about 47 percent lower than overall particulate matter emissions from diesel.

Breathing particulate has been shown to be a human health hazard. Biodiesel emissions also reduce by 80 to 90 percent potential cancer causing compounds called Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) and nitrated PAH. Biodiesel also reduces emissions of total unburned

Hydrocarbons, a contributing factor to smog and ozone, by about 68 percent.

“For the end user, biodiesel has more than just emissions benefits including the fact that it has higher lubricity than standard petroleum diesel. This can help engines run longer and smoother. These biodiesel benefits can be a product differentiator for retailers, helping to drive more business through the door,” said Rick Fleming, president of Fleming Oil.

The biodiesel market has doubled in size year over year and this year is expected to top 20 million gallons of B100 sold. Today, there are over 150 retail stations nation-wide with more becoming operational every month. “With the help of key distributors like Global E Industries, World Energy will continue to grow the biodiesel market, including the development of more retail sites like the ones in New Hampshire” said Gene Gebolys, president of World Energy.
