Amber Court Assisted Living Communities Reaffirms Its Commitment To Seniors On Medicaid

Amber Court Assisted Living Communities Reaffirms Its Commitment To Seniors On Medicaid

Amber Court (http://www. AmberCourtAL. com) reaffirms its commitment to seniors on Medicaid. New Jersey Public Advocate Ronald K. Chen's investigation of Wisconsin-based Assisted Living Concepts, revealed a history of evictions when residents depleted their personal savings.

Westbury, NY (PRWEB) April 22, 2009

Raphael Weiss, Managing Director of Amber Court Assisted Living (http://www. AmberCourtAL. com) (AmberCourtAL. com]), assured that his commitment to residents and to the Medicaid-funded (http://ambercourtal. com/financial. html) program would always be honored in their communities. "Frail, elderly people are entitled to peace of mind and security. They deserve the opportunity to age in place. We are here to love and care for our residents regardless of financial circumstances."

NJ Public Advocate Ronald K. Chen's investigation of Wisconsin based Assisted Living Concepts, revealed a history of evictions when residents depleted their personal savings. The company operates 200 facilities throughout the country, including 8 in southern New Jersey. It avoided a $66,000 fine when it halted the involuntary discharge of 90-year-old Lillie Hatcher from Lindsay House in Pennsville.

Health Care Association of NJ represents the long-term care (http://ambercourtal. com) industry. Its president, Paul Langevin Jr., commented that the report "does not characterize the majority of assisted living companies and residences in the state." He said the industry, with 200 facilities serving 17,000 people, "has been an overwhelming success story."

Raphael Weiss is proud that Amber Court, with locations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Long Island and Elizabeth, New Jersey, is a fine example of assisted living at its best. "Not only do residents remain with us after transitioning to Medicaid, seniors who already have Medicaid are welcome to live here as well."

This commitment echoes the sentiments of Senator Jeff Van Drew (D-Cape May, Cumberland and Atlantic). In response to Public Advocate Ronald Chen's findings, the senator said, "New Jersey's senior citizens are a precious resource to be treasured - living connections to our shared past. They are our mothers and fathers, our aunts and uncles, and our grandparents…they deserve to be treated with the respect and reverence they have earned."

Nutritious Diet During Pregnancy a Must for Delivering a Healthy Birth Weight Baby

Nutritious Diet During Pregnancy a Must for Delivering a Healthy Birth Weight Baby

Certified nutritionist and exercise specialist Isabel De Los Rios offers expectant mothers a simple plan for developing a nutritious diet during pregnancy in her video series What to Eat While Pregnant. De Los Rios has a pre-med degree in exercise physiology from Rutgers University and has helped more than 50,000 people worldwide lose weight permanently with her scientifically based weight loss plan The Diet Solution.

Florham Park, NJ (PRWEB) November 14, 2010

What to Eat While Pregnant is the latest offering by certified nutritionist Isabel De Los Rios, which provides expectant mothers with a simple plan for developing a nutritious diet during pregnancy. The educational video series is a complete nutrition and exercise program that supports women before, after and during their pregnancy and is available at http://www. WhatToEatWhilePregnant. com/.

Recent research by Oregon State University concluded that babies of low birth weight are at risk for lifelong health issues. The study focused on underweight laboratory animals who were born to mothers that were fed a low-protein diet during their pregnancy and after delivery, while nursing their young. Researchers discovered that this impoverished diet led to low birth weight, which resulted in significant and lasting complications.

Certified nutritionist and new mom, Isabel De Los Rios knows firsthand how important it is for expectant mothers to develop a nutritious diet during pregnancy. Regularly consuming healthy, nutrient-dense foods ensures that the mother-to-be experiences a vibrant pregnancy and delivers a healthy baby. De Los Rios created What to Eat While Pregnant to support women and their growing babies before, during and after pregnancy.

Isabel De Los Rios has spent the past ten years supporting people in their health and nutrition goals, helping tens of thousands of people lose weight permanently. More than 50,000 people have regained control over their weight and their health with the aid of her scientifically based weight loss plan The Diet Solution Program.

When it comes to developing a nutritious diet during pregnancy, Isabel De Los Rios encourages mothers to be mindful of eating enough protein.

“I want you not to depend on refined sugar and carbohydrates because what your baby needs, if it doesn’t need sugar or refined carbs, is it needs protein,” says De Los Rios.

“You really need to incorporate protein in every single one of your meals and snacks. By proteins I’m talking about natural lean beef, free-range poultry, wild fish, organic eggs and raw nuts.”

Isabel De Los Rios is an exercise specialist, certified nutritionist, and author of the well-respected, scientifically based The Diet Solution Program. Emerson Network Power Announces Next-Generation DIN Rail Power Supplies for Industrial Applications

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, today announced the ADN-C series, a next-generation addition to its ADN DIN rail power supply family.

Carlsbad, Calif. (PRWEB) December 8, 2009

Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™, today announced the ADN-C series, a next-generation addition to its ADN DIN rail power supply family. The new ADN-C power supplies offer high density, efficiency, reliability and user-friendliness for a wide range of industrial applications, including machine control, semiconductor fabrication, conveyor/material handling, process control, test and measurement equipment and vending/gaming machines.

ADN-C series power supplies are available in three models in power ratings of 120 W, 240 W, and 480 W (5 A, 10 A and 20 A respectively). All models offer an adjustable, nominal output voltage of 24 Vdc and accept a universal wide input voltage range of 85 to 264 Vac (90 to 375 Vdc) to support international operation.

Power density and efficiency
Designed for convenient single or parallel operation when mounted on standard DIN rails, Emerson Network Power’s ADN-C series power supplies feature a new slim form factor (50 to 87 mm wide, depending on the model), allowing customers to increase the power density potential of a single rail. The power supplies offer a high typical operating efficiency of more than 90 percent and are also equipped with active Power Factor Correction (PFC) greater than 0.92.

High reliability
To ensure high reliability, ADN-C series power supplies are also comprehensively protected against continuous short-circuit and overload conditions. They have a high demonstrated mean time between failures (MTBF) of over 450,000 hours at 40 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, ADN-C series power supplies can flexibly accommodate a variety of environments, offering a wide operating temperature range of minus 10 to plus 60 degrees Celsius without derating.

The power supplies are also equipped with a number of features to simplify operation.

PowerBoost™ overload capability enables Emerson Network Power’s ADN-C series to withstand high inrush loads, such as motors, relays, solenoids and dc-dc converters, which can cause ordinary power supplies to fold back or shutdown. A patented DIN rail mounting clip enables tool-free snap-on mounting specially designed for industrial environments. Other user-friendly features include three LEDs on the front of the case (input, output and alarm) for status monitoring, large accessible screw terminal connections and a single/parallel operation toggling switch for enhanced scalability.

ADN-C series power supplies are compliant with Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives and are approved for use in Class 1, Div 2 hazardous locations. They also meet standard requirements for voltage dip immunity in semiconductor fabrication equipment as well as a variety of international safety and performance standards, including UL and CE listings.

Motorcycle Direct Girls Uncovered for 2008 Calendar

Motorcycle Direct Girls Uncovered for 2008 Calendar

Motorcycle Direct Insurance staff receives the full glamour girl treatment for a sexy photo shoot for charity.

(PRWEB) December 20, 2007

Nine Motorcycle Direct (MCD) employees have received the full 'glamour girl' treatment to help create a sexy new charity calendar.

The debut appearance of the 'MCD Cover Girls' can be seen in the 2008 Motorcycle Direct calendar (http://www. mcdcovergirls. co. uk/ (http://www. mcdcovergirls. co. uk/)) which has already gone on sale. The group comprises nine employees who volunteered to be the 'face' of Motorcycle Direct (http://www. motorcycledirect. co. uk/ (http://www. motorcycledirect. co. uk/)) and help raise funds for the charity, Riders for Health.

MotorCycle Direct is one of the UK's biggest motorcycle insurance (http://www. motorcycledirect. co. uk/motorcycle-insurance-quote. php? int= (http://www. motorcycledirect. co. uk/motorcycle-insurance-quote. php? int=)) providers but the employees ditched their normal day jobs in Sales, Marketing and Customer Services to pose with a collection of stunning motorbikes including a Suzuki SV1000, a Triumph Daytona 675 and a Harley Davidson Fat Boy.

The calendar will be available in two formats; Bikers can register at www. mcdcovergirls. co. uk where they can either download a free copy or pay 99p to receive a hard copy. All profits will go to the charity, Riders for Health (http://www. riders. org/ (http://www. riders. org/)).

Marketing Executive Jenny appears in August on the calendar and commented: "It was the first time most of us had done anything like this but we are really pleased with the way the calendar has turned out. I originally suggested the idea and the girls just started volunteering. To be part of a professional glamour photo shoot was a fantastic experience and I hope we raise loads of money."

Chief Executive Scott Salter said: "I'm incredibly proud of the girls. We already knew they were the best in the business when it comes to bike insurance but this shows a whole new side to them. I think it takes a lot of bravery to do something like this but Riders for Health is a charity we all really care about and I know the girls were keen to do something that would make a difference. I think it will make a great Christmas present for anyone who is mad about bikes, so hopefully everyone will get behind it."

Company to Provide Technology Platform for Digital Data Collection of Computerized Patient Records

Company to Provide Technology Platform for Digital Data Collection of Computerized Patient Records

Company Digital Data Collection sensor, software, and process platform intended to meet the needs of the Obama administration's Health Technology Plan.

Aliso Viejo, California (PRWEB) March 31, 2009

Applied Technology Holdings, Inc. (ATH) revealed it's plans today to develop a BodySensor™ and BodyBalance™ system from its new Digital Data Collection technology platform, for which the company has filed multiple patent applications. Based on a study from the New England Journal of Medicine, only 9 percent of the nation's hospitals have electronic health records, on a survey of nearly 3,000 hospitals. The study, financed by the federal government and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is the most definitive measure to date of the use of computerized patient records by hospitals. The government-backed study found use of electronic health records to be far less prevalent than some earlier, less rigorous surveys had found.

Jay Shears, CEO of Applied Technology Holdings said, "Our technology platform is based on sensor technology and a software platform which will allow for solution providers to write electronic health record applications. The technology is intended to allow developers, to wirelessly monitor, process, and measure human body motion, balance, and bioMotion™ data. Shears continued saying, The Obama administration's health technology plan, which is part of the economic recovery package, includes incentive payments for adopting digital electronic health records -- more than $40,000 per physician and up to several million dollars for hospitals. The payments are spread over a few years and are based on meaningful use of certified records."

Industry experts suggest that the incentive payments, are enough to greatly accelerate the adoption of electronic health records. In the new survey of hospitals, the cost of digital record systems was cited as the single largest obstacle to adoption.

Shears commented that the industry is planning for electronic health records to be used as a tool to reform health care. The Obama administration also intends to shift Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement toward paying for better health outcomes, which will be measured and monitored using technology. The new administration goals are quality and efficiency, instead of just putting machinery in offices.

The small, lightweight, and low cost wireless sensors, together with the ATH digital data process technology platform, will provide human motion capture and balance information using wireless wearable devices that can monitor, display in 3-D, control, and remotely store collected digital data in real time, with some applications collecting or transmitting data over the internet.

Law & Order's Sam Waterston Joins Oceana's Ocean Council and Fight to Save the World's Oceans

Law & Order's Sam Waterston Joins Oceana's Ocean Council and Fight to Save the World's Oceans

Oscar-nominated actor and star of NBC's Law & Order, Sam Waterston, has joined its Ocean Council. The Ocean Council is a select group of academic, business, policy and philanthropic leaders who represent and support Oceana's efforts on the global stage.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 31, 2007

Oceana announced today that Oscar-nominated actor and star of NBC's Law & Order (http://www. oceana. org/north-america/who-we-are/boards/ocean-council/), Sam Waterston, has joined its Ocean Council. The Ocean Council is a select group of academic, business, policy and philanthropic leaders who represent and support Oceana's efforts on the global stage. Members, who also include Pierce Brosnan and Kelsey Grammar, provide a wide range of talents and resources to inform and support Oceana's programming and the advancement of the organization's mission.

"I've loved the ocean all my life. As a New Englander, I've seen the nasty effects of fisheries collapses on the life of seaside towns," said Waterston. "Scientists now warn us that unless we do something, the world is on a path to global fishery collapses by mid-century, a calamity of mind-boggling proportions we can still avert. The time to act is now, which is why I'm very happy to be working with an organization as effective as Oceana."

Waterston has long been passionate about human impact on the earth's health, starring with Liv Ullmann and John Heard in "Mindwalk" in 1992, and, for 11 years, acting as the host of the PBS documentary series, The Visionaries, which highlights the rarely told stories of nonprofit groups working to make a positive difference around the planet.

"Fishermen (http://www. oceana. org/north-america/what-we-do/stop-overfishing-subsidies/) of all kinds, including amateurs like myself, have long known that the health of the fisheries reflect and decide the health of the oceans. Injure one, you injure the other. Support one, you support the other. In just the same way, the health of the oceans reflects and determines the health of the planet. It's time and past time to make our action consistent with our understanding," added Waterston.

"We are very grateful for Sam's help," said Andrew Sharpless, Oceana's (http://www. Oceana. org) chief executive officer. "He gets it. He has closely followed the drumbeat of scientific reports about the rapid depletion of life in our oceans. Everyone recognizes and trusts him. He will be a huge help for our campaigns to bring the world's oceans back from the brink of irreversible collapse."

A report by an international team of marine scientists, published in the international journal Science (November 3rd, 2006), found that catches of 29% of wild populations of seafood have already dropped to less than 10% of their maximum. They also projected that if excessive catches of ocean species continues at current rates, our seafood supply could collapse before the middle of the century."

To reverse the declining health of the world's oceans, Oceana's team of marine scientists, economists, lawyers and advocates focus on specific and concrete policy changes. Oceana's campaigns seek to: protect essential ocean habitat such as corals from destruction by bottom trawling; reduce the accidental killing of marine wildlife as bycatch from industrial scale commercial fishing; reduce fish contamination from mercury pollution; and eliminate government subsidies that promote over-fishing.

Other members of Oceana's Ocean Council (http://www. oceana. org/north-america/who-we-are/boards/ocean-council/) include: Anne Alexander Rowley, Dr. Sharon Benjamin, Gerald Breslauer, April Delaney, Thomas Hansen, Lea Haratani, Hardy Jones, Barbara Kohn, Larry Kopald, George Lewis, Jr., Drew Murphy, Dr. Wallace J. Nichols, Jimmy Olmes, Mark Ryavec, Robert Segal, Joshua J. Simcox, Victoria Stack, Bob Talbot, Karen White and Annett Wolf. Deadly Virus on the Loose -- 73% Fatality Rate -- No Vaccine Available -- New eBook Reveals 3 Medical Secrets to Survive the Coming Pandemic

Deadly Virus on the Loose -- 73% Fatality Rate -- No Vaccine Available -- New eBook Reveals 3 Medical Secrets to Survive the Coming Pandemic

A new eBook is now available from Urgent eBooks that explains the 3 medical secrets that a family can use to protect themselves against H5N1, a deadly pathogen out of control in Asia, that could strike the U. S. 150 hours of research and a dozen scientists explain what you can do now.

(PRWEB) January 25, 2005

The Director of Infectious Diseases at the World Health Organization (WHO), Klaus Stohr, has predicted a worldwide pandemic that could kill as many as one-third of earth's population. He's talking about H5N1, or "bird flu."

The first signs of the pandemic have already appeared in Asia. Vietnam is in the grips of an outbreak of bird flu. More than 100 million poultry have been slaughtered in an attempt to stop the spread of the virus.

And a vaccine is 12 months away. Meanwhile, people are dying from H5N1 in Vietnam, Thailand, and other Asian countries.

The Centers for Disease Control in the U. S. and the World Health Organization know very little about H5N1, but they do know this: it only responds to one antiviral, and only one.

The new eBook, "How to Protect Your Family Against the Coming Pandemic," written by science writer John Hart, explains in detail the 3 medical measures available to protect your family right now: 1) where to buy the only high-tech filter mask that kills H5N1 and many other viruses -- Hint: it isn't an N95; 2) the very small supply of antiviral pills available to fight off H5N1 and where to get them; 3) What you can do to kill H5N1 immediately if you get it.

This new 97-page eBook describes how this deadly pathogen not only has the ability to mutate rapidly, but it's one of the first intelligent viruses researchers have uncovered. It is one reason why Klaus Stohr at WHO is so alarmed.

Mr. Hart said "The threat against the survival of the speices comes not from global warming, or terrorists, or even ourselves. It comes from a strand of new DNA about 300 nanometers long."

Mr. Hart explains in his ebook how the bird flu developed, what the risk is to our families, how unprepared the U. S. and other governments are. Hart advises "Don't wait for your government to save you. Be proactive and take action yourself. If you wait for a vaccine, it may be too late."

A media copy of the eBook is available by request to editor@urgentebooks. com and Mr. Hart is available for radio and print interviews.

Mr. Hart is a member of the National Association of Science Writers, and an MFA candidate in an Oregon University. He has worked as a professional researcher for the past 10 years in the fields of biology, microbiology, alternative health, etc.

BeBLUU™ Challenge Raises Funds For Blue Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit

BeBLUU™ filtered water bottles is launching the beBLUU™ Challenge to raise funds for the BLUE Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit. beBLUU™ was also a sponsor for the event held in Monterey last month.

Monterey, CA (Vocus) September 16, 2010

beBLUU (http://bebluu. com/)™ filtered water bottles is launching the beBLUU™ Challenge (http://www. bebluu. com/blueocean) to raise funds for the BLUE Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit. beBLUU™ was also a sponsor for the event held in Monterey last month.

Now through November 30, 2010, beBLUU™ will donate three-dollars from each bottle sold as part of this fundraising effort to the BLUE Ocean Film Festival (http://www. BLUEOceanFilmFestival. org) and Conservation Summit’s non-profit organization. The goal is to raise twenty-thousand dollars for the BLUE non-profit to fund BLUE on Tour’s ongoing outreach and to raise awareness of marine conservation issues. BLUE on Tour, BLUE’s traveling film festival, has locations in more than three continents eager to host a tour visit and help spread awareness.

At beBLUU™, we love the taste of pure, fresh, bottled water, but not what plastics are doing to our environment – particularly the oceans. Bottled water is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to introducing plastic debris into the oceans. Many plastic water bottles are known to carry the risk of leaching BPA as well as DEHA and DEHP into the drinking water. Most water bottles on the market in the U. S. are manufactured overseas and imported, resulting in an even larger carbon footprint. Stainless steel water bottles are resource intensive to create and challenging to recycle, and aluminum bottles carry potential health risks. Fortunately, not all water bottles are created equal.

The beBLUU™ water bottle is designed to be better for people and the planet. Manufactured in North America, 100% recyclable, and made with FDA approved food and medical grade resin, it is BPA, DEHA and DEHP free. The built-in, replaceable filter provides fresh tasting, pure drinking water from the tap. A single replaceable filter lasts for 75 to 125 uses – the equivalent of more than 9 cases of bottled water.

The beBLUU™ company is designed to be better for the planet too. beBLUU™ will donate three dollars from each bottle sold to one of our partner non-profit organizations working on marine conservation, ocean health and drinking water issues. BLUE Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit is the first recipient of The beBLUU™ company. Stay tuned to the beBLUU™ website for updates on additional non-profits and initiatives as they are added, purchase a bottle and choose where your donation goes.

The BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit is an international festival and conservation event that brings together filmmakers, underwater photographers, marine scientists and conservationists, film industry leaders and the public to inspire, raise awareness of the condition of our oceans and to provide a forum to seek solutions. For more information on the BLUE Ocean Film Festival & Conservation Summit, visit www. BLUEOceanFilmFestival. org or contact Ashley Huffman at ashley(at)enviro-rel(dot)com.

Learn more about the beBLUU™ Challenge at www. bebluu. com/blueocean (http://www. bebluu. com/blueocean) or contact laura(at)bebluu(dot)com and purchase a beBLUU™ bottle by November 30th to contribute to the BLUE and to healthier oceans.

Tibetan Prayer Wheels New Website is Officially Launched

Tibetan Prayer Wheels New Website is Officially Launched

Harmonizing with Feng Shui: Tibetan Prayer Wheels New Web Site is Officially Launched. Tibetan Prayer Wheels are a strong addition to the Feng Shui tradition and, along with other items, are now available through TibetanPrayerWheels. com, a site ready to help people promote peace. This site is also one of the only on-line sources to get Authentic Tibetan Prayer Wheels, Tibetan Prayer Flags, Tibetan art and other Tibetan Buddhism items.

Middletown Springs, VT (PRWEB) October 24, 2007

Tibetan Prayer Wheels was founded when the owners discovered a unique innovation in prayer wheels while traveling through Nepal in search of Tibetan Buddhism sacred art and feng shui items. A Buddhist monk in Kathmandu, with the encouragement of his teacher Lama Zopa Rinpoche - one of Buddhism's foremost scholars in the prayer wheel tradition and prominent student of His Holiness the Dalai Lama - combined the traditional techniques of making prayer wheels with modern technology to incorporate millions of mantras inside the wheels rather than the usual thousands. Tradition states that the more mantras there are inside a prayer wheel, the more benefit spinning the prayer wheel brings; these new prayer wheels increase the possible blessings by 100 times or more. They are also useful in the art of feng shui.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama handwrote the Mani Mantra - the mantra of peace and compassion - specifically for the purpose of duplicating as many times as possible for use in these prayer wheels. Using special equipment, the mantras are MicroPrinted so that millions of copies can be fitted into even the smallest prayer wheel. They are then properly placed inside the prayer wheel in accordance with thousands of years of Tibetan Buddhism tradition.

The prayer wheels are handcrafted in the Himalaya region of Nepal, bordering Tibet. The artisans have an ancient lineage in this sort of craft, and the wheels are beautiful, functional, responsibly made and part of the global fair trade initiative.

The prayer wheel plays a very important role in the Tibetan Buddhism tradition. The practice of turning the prayer wheel, or even wearing or having in one's home, is said to be of immeasurable benefit for oneself and others. Buddhist teachers and the ancient texts expound the profound benefits of the prayer wheel for its ability to quickly harmonize the environment, increase compassion, encourage a peaceful state of mind, and assist practitioners on their journeys to enlightenment. The beauty and energy of these prayer wheels makes them useful for anyone seeking to harmonize their environment with feng shui, bring adornment to their home or person, or add a new dimension to their current meditation practice.

Tibetan Prayer Wheels is proud to be one of the very few places that are offering this marvelous combination of traditional Buddhist Sacred Art and modern technology in one of its finest uses. They carry handheld, table top and pendant prayer wheels. The tiny, yet fully functional and correctly made, Pendant Prayer Wheels hold 2.2 million mantras; the largest of the table top Prayer Wheels have over 40 million mantras. All the wheels are of the highest quality and as beautiful to look at as they are to spin.

Tibetan Prayer Wheels also offers traditionally made Tibetan Prayer Flags; made in the Himalayas, they are used to promote peace, compassion and wisdom. It is believed the energy of the prayers and sacred mantras on the flags are blown in the wind and will bring Joy, Happiness and Good health to all who see them, as well as their families, loved ones, neighbors, and all people throughout the world. And followers of feng shui are sure to have them around.

More unique items are already available on Tibetan Prayer Wheels' site, and the selection will continue to expand. The company's commitment to high quality Tibetan Buddhism products that help everyone - from the people who make them to those who purchase them - is reflected in thoughtful charitable donations. A percentage of the sales from Tibetanprayerwheels. com are donated to the Bodhi Tree Children's educational fund in Bodhgaya.

Circumcision Can't Prevent HIV

Circumcision Can't Prevent HIV

Circumcision may result in a false belief that safe-sex practices are no longer required, implying a worsening of the incidence of HIV infection, according to a joint statement issued September 29, 2005 with: National Organisation of Circumcision Information Resource Centres, South Africa (NOCIRC-SA) www. nocirc-sa. co. za.

West Lafayette, IN (PRWEB) October 2, 2005

Two separate papers were presented at a conference in Brazil, claiming that male and female circumcision has the potential to reduce HIV acquisition. Such claims may conversely have negative consequences in the struggle against HIV and AIDS. At the recent congress of the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC), the findings of a study conducted amongst male South African participants were presented, suggesting that the circumcised penis is more resistant to HIV infection. TAC has been reported to be considering advocating circumcision as a result. We are encouraging them to reconsider their new strategy.

This study could dangerously mislead people into believing that if they are circumcised, they would be protected against HIV. The natural response of a circumcised male to these reports is to assume that he is more resistant to HIV infection than is the intact male. The implication being that even more circumcised men may engage in unsafe sexual practices under the false impression that they won't contract HIV. Equally troublesome is the fact that this study offers no indication on whether or not the receptive partner of the circumcised male will become more or less vulnerable to HIV infection. The female receptive partner's risk will likely increase without adequate protection. A second study, performed by Stallings amongst African females in Tanzania shows that HIV transmission is also reduced among circumcised FEMALES. This has gone unreported by the media. Such selective reporting suggests the need for analysis from a gender prejudice point-of-view and suggests that male and female circumcision should be dealt with as a unity.

The foreskin is not just a piece of skin, but rather a highly specialized erogenous and immunological structure, which cannot be cut off like hair or fingernails. We are therefore concerned about the frequent uncritical reference to particularly the male study in the media. The promotion of its uncorroborated findings, without adequate understanding of the behavioral consequences, is highly irresponsible. Feedback offered to our organization indicates that some individuals are now advocating "chop-shops," where parents will be able to bring their children for the non-consensual, non-therapeutic removal of their foreskins.

The "Lancet," the pre-eminent medical journal in the world, rejected the publication of the above French study. The broad quotation within the media is therefore, premature and irresponsible since the study has not been peer - reviewed as yet.

When extrapolating globally, the hypothesis of this study could be proven to be wrong. The United States has a very high rate of circumcision coupled with the highest HIV infection rate in the developed world. Scandinavia on the other hand has one of the lowest rates of circumcision in the world coupled with a comparatively low incidence of HIV infection. Global trends should be more accurate than one, demographically limited study. Neither does current research point to a significant difference in infection rates in South Africa amongst the non-circumcising tribes such as the Zulus, and the circumcising tribes such as the Xhosas.

Other studies have thus far failed to corroborate that circumcision could prevent HIV. The highly respected Cochrane review, which conducted a meta-analysis of circumcision and its relationship to HIV, "found insufficient evidence to support an interventional effect of male circumcision on HIV acquisition

In heterosexual men."

The most important emphasis of HIV prevention should focus on education, the use of non-contaminated medical equipment, and behavioral changes such as condom use, and not foreskin amputation. The amputation of the male prepuce removes the only movable part of the penis, causing increased friction during sexual intercourse, leading to micro-tears of tissue, and subsequent increased vulnerability to possible infection. In South Africa, 'dry sex' practices, whereby lubrication mechanisms are purposely removed, make HIV infection even more likely to occur. It has also previously been demonstrated that circumcised men don't like using condoms as they suffer from a progressively desensitized penis.

UNAIDS has cautioned against circumcision. "If circumcision were promoted as a way of preventing HIV infection, people might abandon other safe sexual practices, such as condom use. This risk is far from negligible - already rumors abound in some communities that circumcision acts as a "natural condom". A sexworker interviewed in the city of Kisumu in Kenya summed up this misconception, saying, "I can sleep with circumcised men without a condom because they don't carry a lot of dirt on their penis." Circumcision does not eliminate HIV infection. In one study in South Africa, two out of five circumcised men were infected with HIV, compared with three out of five uncircumcised men. Relying on circumcision for protection is like playing Russian roulette with two bullets in a (five-shot) revolver rather than three."

National Organization of Circumcision Information Resource Centres of South Africa implores all organizations associated with the fight against HIV/AIDS to take note of these developments. We should not lose foresight in the fight against HIV/AIDS by these irresponsible statements promoting circumcision of healthy body parts of boys and girls as a preventative strategy. All children have a right to bodily integrity, and such procedures violate that right. This right is enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which South Africa is a state signatory.

Off-Campus Meal Plan Arrives in Greeley: UNC Students Choose their Favorite Restaurants, Parents Rest Easy

Off-Campus Meal Plan Arrives in Greeley: UNC Students Choose their Favorite Restaurants, Parents Rest Easy

The Off-Campus Meal Plan (OCMP) is offering its meal card to University of Northern Colorado students beginning this fall semester. Students can choose to dine at their favorite local restaurants without needing cash or a credit card.

Greeley, CO (PRWEB) August 20, 2005

Come the 2005 fall semester, students of the University of Northern Colorado will have a choice in where they can eat. Instead of eating a standard meal in their schoolÂ’s dining hall, students can eat at their favorite restaurants in town or have food delivered to their door without using their pocket cash or racking up their credit card bill by using The Off-Campus Meal Plan (OCMP®).

OCMP polled students to find out where they like to eat. OCMP delivered - now students can eat where they want with the convenience of swiping their OCMP meal card. More than fourteen restaurants in the Greeley area accept the OCMP card as a form of payment for studentÂ’s meals and more restaurants are expected to sign on during the fall 2005 semester. Students of the University of Northern Colorado will simply flash their OCMP card when eating at restaurants of their choice, like Bears Sports Grill, Dominos and The State Armory, among others.

“Since this is the first time anything like OCMP has come to the Greeley area, it is very exciting. For the last couple of years, we have received thousands of e-mails and phone calls from parents and students of the University of Northern Colorado asking for us to bring them this program,” says David Diana, President and Founder of OCMP.

“For over 10 years, OCMP has provided meal plans to hundreds of thousands of students across the country, giving them the freedom to eat, by using a meal card, just like they were at the school dining hall, but now at off-campus restaurants,” says Michael Hauke, Vice President.

Not only can students eat what they want, where they want and when they want, they can enjoy discounts on their food, meaning less meals used on their card. OCMP participating restaurants offer frequent discounts that are displayed at their store and on OCMPÂ’s Web site. When students visit their local eatery they simply flash their OCMP card to enjoy these discounts.

“OCMP has transformed campus eating. By offering the plan, we’ve increased the amount of students eating at our store and the students have a healthy alternative,” says Vincenzo Sorriso, Owner of Saladworks, one of the hundreds of restaurants that accept the OCMP card across the country.

“As a parent and as a restaurant owner, I really see the value in the (OCMP) card. Not a day goes by that more OCMP cards come through my register, than cash or credit, and the kids just love it,” says Larry Severance, Owner of the Loose Goose Café in Amherst, MA.

Parents get the added peace of mind of knowing that the OCMP meals are only redeemable for food and are thankful that their kids cannot create credit card debt. The OCMP card is also secure, a picture ID and pin number are needed when using the card. With OCMPÂ’s easy to use meal plan, University of Northern Colorado students now have a safe, easy and reliable way to eat at their favorite restaurants whenever they want.

Parents and students can enroll in OCMP within a few minutes, keep track of and update their accounts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, instantly, and discover new participating restaurants by visiting www. ocmp. com or by calling OCMPÂ’s World Headquarters at 888-211-6267.

About OCMP:

The Off-Campus Meal Plan (OCMP®) was founded by David Diana in 1995. Dissatisfied with the quality and convenience of his own campusÂ’ meals, David decided to establish a business that would offer students an affordable meal plan to use at off-campus restaurants. It began at the University of Massachusetts, his alma mater, and has evolved into over 40 universities across the U. S.

Power Swabs Corporation Announces New 'Power Swabs' Dental Stain Removal Tool

Power Swabs Corporation Announces New 'Power Swabs' Dental Stain Removal Tool

Power Swabs Corporation is launching today a paradigm-shifting professional dental stain removal and smile enhancement product called Power Swabs. This new oral health and beauty innovation is designed to thoroughly clean and whiten teeth by removing tough, deep-seated enamel stains without traditional peroxide bleaches or abrasives.

Beaverton, OR (PRWEB) February 20, 2008

The Power Swabs Corporation (http://www. powerswabs. com/) is launching today a paradigm-shifting professional dental stain removal and smile enhancement product. The product called Power Swabs® (http://www. powerswabs. com/) is designed to thoroughly clean and whiten teeth by removing tough, deep-seated enamel stains without traditional peroxide bleaches or abrasives. This product also dramatically reduces dentinal hypersensitivity associated with bleaching by employing 'wetting agents' that help to prevent 'dehydration-related' dental pain that is associated with many professional power whitening procedures.

Power Swabs are convenient and versatile "liquid-filled" dental swabs that feature "Foaming Action Cleaning Technology" FACT™ Technology (http://www. powerswabs. com/technology. html) which combines solvents, wetting agents, detergents, stain softeners and effervescents. Power Swabs® have shown the ability in independent clinical trials to dramatically reduce transient dentinal hypersensitivity and to also significantly enhance the results of many cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as vital tooth bleaching.

Consequently this powerful new innovation is a significant step forward for the dental profession, and for all those who seek to create/obtain a more beautiful smile through an alternate mechanism of teeth whitening. Power Swabs® actually remove the stains on teeth, not merely lighten them. The use of Power Swabs® also prevents dehydration-related tooth sensitivity. Moreover, because of their deep cleaning ability, Power Swabs® reduce the time needed for other whitening products to do their job. The fewer the stains, the easier and faster it is to lighten whatever is still left behind.

Consulting Clinical Director, Dr. Martin Zase said, "We're incredibly enthusiastic about the new Power Swabs® product. It is the first-ever professional dental health product designed to whiten teeth without sensitivity through a mechanism of 'stain removal' and 'cleaning' rather than traditional bleaching."

Dr. Zase also stated, "We have furthermore found that this product has the ability to prevent teeth sensitivity associated with professional and consumer bleaching procedures." He concluded, "This opens the market to millions more consumers who have desired to have more beautiful teeth but could not previously" because of the issue of pain from temperature sensitivity that affects 50% of those persons who have previously attempted to 'bleach' their teeth by using a form of peroxide supplied (or applied) by their dentist.

For more information about this new product that will positively impact the future delivery of cosmetic dentistry procedures, please contact the Power Swabs Management Team (http://www. powerswabs. com/contact. html) (Dr. Jeffrey Giniger, President; Mr. Salvatore Ascolese, Chief Operating Officer; Mr. Lawrence Donato, Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing) at +1 (323) 319 6500 or email info @ PowerSwabs. com. The contact information may also be used to schedule an interview with the company about this powerful new technology or to obtain further information about becoming a distribution partner. High quality image files for mass media publication are available upon request.

Medical Tourists Infected by Indian Superbug Would be Excluded from Travel Insurance, Squaremouth Warns

Medical Tourists Infected by Indian Superbug Would be Excluded from Travel Insurance, Squaremouth Warns

A new antibiotic-resistant superbug isn’t the only risk to Americans who travel abroad for cheaper surgery or medical treatment: ‘medical tourism’ typically is excluded from travel insurance coverage -- and is grounds to deny any claim arising from the trip, not just for health-related expenses, warns Squaremouth. com, America's fastest growing comparison website for travel insurance.

St. Pete Beach, FL (PRWEB) August 23, 2010

A new antibiotic-resistant superbug isn’t the only risk to Americans who travel abroad for cheaper surgery or medical treatment: ‘medical tourism’ typically is excluded from travel insurance (http://www. squaremouth. com) coverage -- and is grounds to deny any claim arising from the trip, not just for health-related expenses, warns Squaremouth. com, America's fastest growing comparison website for travel insurance.

“The policy you bought thinking to protect yourself instead could be null and void, and you could be hundreds of thousands of dollars out of pocket if you’re a medical tourist and the unexpected happens,” said Joshua Walker, Operations Manager at Squaremouth.

South Asia has become a prime destination for patients from the West seeking cheaper plastic surgery, elective heart, hip and bariatric surgeries, and cancer care. But an article in British journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases last week criticized medical tourists for helping to spread the bacterium New Delhi metallo-lactamase-1, which is impervious to even the strongest antibiotics.

Although not generally fatal, the newly discovered superbug can have severe consequences for cancer patients and others with compromised immune systems. The U. S., Britain, Canada, Australia and several European countries have reported its spread as medical tourists return home with the infection.

But a little-known fact is that, whether medical tourists end up infected by this superbug or not, they stand to pay dearly for any unforeseen expenses during a trip, since medical tourism is an outright exclusion from most traditional travel insurance (http://www. squaremouth. com) policies.

Policies tend to read this way: “No payment will be made for loss caused by or resulting from traveling for the purpose of securing medical treatment.” That means insurers have the ability to deny any claim -- medical or not -- as fruit of a poisoned tree. So in addition to any unanticipated expenses related to the medical care they sought abroad -- such as lengthier hospitalization or specialist intervention to treat surgical complications – if a traveler misses their flight en route to plastic surgery in India, they shouldn’t expect to recover the cost of their hotel room at the airport or replacement airfare. If an airline loses their luggage, or they have the misfortune to be in a car accident during their trip, they’d be on the hook for any costs.

Since medical evacuation (http://www. squaremouth. com/travel-insurance/information/travel-insurance-medical-evacuation-&-repatriation-benefit. html) service can potentially cost hundreds of thousands of dollars for transferring patients to the U. S. from a foreign hospital, medical tourists to South Asia are not only possibly contributing to the worldwide dissemination of a superbug; “They can be risking their financial future as well,” Walker advised. “What people don’t always understand is that without the right insurance coverage, the monetary risks of health tourism are extreme.”

Although medical tourism is a growing trend, the travel insurance industry simply hasn’t kept pace. According to onlinemedicaltourism. com, some carriers, such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, have instituted pilot programs in the last two years that may be continuing. But ‘medical tourism insurance’ that represents a future solution isn’t yet widely on offer.

“We certainly get questions about medical tourism coverage, and it’s being talked about more in the news and within the insurance industry,” said the Walker, “but we’re advising customers against buying traditional travel insurance if a trip is primarily for a medical purpose because they won’t be adequately protected.”

Pure Energy Corporation Forms Joint Venture with Green Star Products, Inc. and Bio-Clean Fuels, Inc. to Undertake Integrated Biofuels Production

Pure Energy Corporation Forms Joint Venture with Green Star Products, Inc. and Bio-Clean Fuels, Inc. to Undertake Integrated Biofuels Production

Green Star International, Inc., a Joint venture between Pure Energy Corporation, Green Star Products, Inc., and Bio-Clean Fuels, Inc., to Build Multiple Biorefineries in the United States and Internationally for the Integrated Production of Biodiesel, Cellulosic Ethanol and Higher-Value Chemicals from Waste Renewable Resources.

Paramus, NJ (PRWEB) July 6, 2006

Pure Energy Corporation announced today that it has entered into a Joint Venture with Green Star Products, Inc. (OTC:GSPI) (GreenStarUSA. com) and Bio-Clean Fuels, Inc. to undertake integrated ethanol and biodiesel production projects in the United States and certain select countries internationally. The JV Company, known as Green Star International, Inc., was formed pursuant to a Joint Venture Agreement executed by the parties in March of this year.

The new entity, which is fifty-percent owned by Pure Energy, and twenty-five-percent owned by each of Green Star Products and Bio-Clean Fuels, marks Pure Energy’s first ever strategic partnership to integrate it’s cellulosic ethanol production technology with a modular methyl ester (biodiesel) processing platform in the United States.

“This partnership reflects many years of combined experience that the management of Pure Energy Corporation, Green Star Products, and Bio-Clean Fuels have gained by developing and delivering innovative biofuels manufacturing systems," said Irshad Ahmed, Pure Energy’s President and Chief Executive Officer. "If successful, Green Star International has the potential to reshape the biofuels industry by enabling the first ever Total Biofuels Biorefinery capable of producing ethanol, biodiesel, and other value-added chemicals and co-products in a single processing facility.”

The concept of integrating Pure Energy’s biomass-to-ethanol two-stage dilute acid hydrolysis Biorefinery processing platform with Bio-Clean Fuels and Green Star Products’ continuous-flow transesterification technology for the production of biodiesel offers several key advantages; including energy savings and utilization of waste heat; product marketing and logistical synergies; sharing of laboratory and QC facilities; sharing of maintenance equipment and plant operating and management personnel; and significant improvements to the overall production economics versus stand-alone facilities.

Green Star Products’ President, Joseph P. LaStella, stated, "The Green Star International joint venture represents all of the various elements required to create successful world-class biorefinery manufacturing projects both economically and practically.” Green Star Products has been a strategic alliance partner of Pure Energy Corporation for a number of years, having jointly undertaken the production and supply of shipments of biodiesel to major oil companies in India from the United States. “Integration of Green Star Products’ biodiesel engineering and production capabilities with Bio-Clean Fuels’ technical and procurement background, and Pure Energy’s patented cellulosic-ethanol technology and project implementation competence represents a well-rounded team capable of implementing multi-tiered biofuels projects efficiently and cost-effectively.”

“Each of the JV partners brings extraordinarily well-matched technologies, relationships, and capabilities which complement each other very well; said LaStella “By combining our respective resources and personnel, Green Star International is well-positioned to compete in the rapidly expanding biofuels market.”

The Joint Venture, as a project implementation entity, is presently developing several United States based biorefinery projects in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, Idaho, Washington, and California, as well as a number of projects outside of the United States, each with a focus on integrating ethanol and biodiesel production under one roof.

Cellulose-derived Ethanol, an alcohol fuel produced from renewable waste biomass sources, such as corn cobs, switch grass, and saw dust, provides a high-quality, high-octane gasoline substitute for exceptional engine performance and reduced environmental emissions. Cellulose-derived ethanol represents the next generation of ethanol production technology that promises a number of environmental and economic benefits compared to corn-based ethanol. Biodiesel, a methyl ester fuel that can be produced from renewable organic oil sources, such as soybean, canola oils, or other virgin or waste vegetable oils and/or animal fat, is a non-toxic and fully biodegradable substitute for its petroleum-diesel counterpart. Both biofuels offer significant reductions in the amount of net greenhouse gases and harmful tailpipe emissions from gasoline - and diesel-powered vehicles. The greater use of these biofuels will promote national security by reducing dependence on foreign oil, result in value-added income to American farmers by utilizing agricultural waste, and divert significant amount of municipal and industrial waste streams from fast-depleting landfills for useful utilization in biorefineries.

Pure Energy Corporation, a leader in engineered alternative fuel formulations, is credited for incorporating renewable fuel components, such as ethanol, into conventional fossil fuels, to create cleaner gasoline and diesel-based fuel blends for use in passenger cars and trucks. Pure Energy's patented Puranol and polymeric fuel additive systems for ethanol-diesel blends (E-Diesel) are at the core of several of the company’s breakthrough alternative fuels, which have been demonstrated in over one million combined miles with the Chicago Transit Authority (TransitChicago. com), Archer Daniels Midland Company (NYSE: ADM) (ADMWorld. com) and Waste Management Inc., (NYSE: WMI) (wm. com) and other industry partners in the United States and abroad. Operated non-stop between 1999 through 2001, the E-Diesel demonstration project with ADM Trucking utilized actual operational fleet trucks at Decatur, Illinois, and was considered as one of the longest alternative fuels demonstration projects in the country.

Pure Energy’s integrated biorefinery technology platform for producing ethanol and chemicals from agricultural and municipal waste biomass represents a significantly lower-cost ethanol production process as compared to conventional technologies based on corn or sugarcane. Pure Energy is also credited as the only privately held company in the United States with a successful designation of an Alternative Fuel, P-Series, under the Energy Policy Act of 1992 at the United States Department of Energy (http://www. eere. energy. gov/afdc/altfuel/p-series. html (http://www. eere. energy. gov/afdc/altfuel/p-series. html)).

Green Star Products, Inc., a holding company with equity positions in various technology companies related to, among other things, fuels, biofuels, and fuel additives, is in the biodiesel production business, having successfully built and operated a commercial-scale biodiesel plant in Bakersfield, California for several years.

Bio-Clean Fuels, Inc. is a biodiesel technology and engineering company, possessing a modular, continuous-flow transesterification system for the production of high-quality biodiesel from three classes of feedstock, including used and recycled cooking oils, virgin tallow, and vegetable oils. The Bio-Clean Fuels technology is differentiated from conventional processing technologies through improved conversion efficiencies and a water-free manufacturing system.

Together, through Green Star International, Inc., the Joint Venture partners represent a Total Biofuels Solution for a cleaner, healthier environment and reduced dependence on foreign petroleum, while solving the burgeoning solid waste problem.

(PRWEB) July 21, 2005

NaturScience, the developers of the all-natural health supplement (http://www. powerinajar. com) LimuPlex, hosted a dietary conference in New York City, New York in April to promote LimuPlex and raise awareness of natural health supplements (http://www. powerinajar. com). Due to all the interest in the LimuPlex health supplement (http://www. powerinajar. com), Dr. Ria M. Gilday, N. D., C. N., presented the health supplement (http://www. powerinajar. com) at the Hispanic Medical Association conference in New York City on June 30th.

“The results of our April dietary and health supplement (http://www. powerinajar. com) conference were so good that another one had to be arranged due to all the positive energy and interest in the Limuplex product,” said Joe Lepore, Independent Representative of NaturScience. “This June conference enabled us to share the benefits of LimuPlex with doctors, surgeons, and nutritionists. With the support of the medical community, the LimuPlex health supplement can reach the world.”

Over fifty members of the medical community attended the Hispanic Medical Association conference. They were all impressed that one small scoop of the LimuPlex health supplement (http://www. powerinajar. com) contains over 500 all-natural nutrients from the land and sea, including the Limu sea vegetable, cranberries, elderberries, grape and lotus seeds, and whole colostrum to benefit:

The muscular-skeletal system    The neurological system    Promote cardiovascular, hormonal, and gastrointestinal health    Increase energy and vitality    Improve mental clarity

“Prior to the Limuplex health supplement (http://www. powerinajar. com), being constantly on the go, I was in search for a product that would give me energy, boost up my immune system and keep me free from viruses, colds and the flu, and keep me in a happy mood all day,” said Lepore. “My search finally ended when Limuplex came on the seen. I didn’t know how I was living without this product all my life but now I can’t live without it.”

Cliff Butterworth from Idaho suffered from severe joint pain until he began using the LimuPlex health supplement. “My doctor said I would have to learn to live with the pain in my hips, knees, and feet. After a few weeks on LimuPlex, the spring is back in my step, I feel great and I greet each day with a smile,” said Butterworth.

Growing Green Online, EcoLuxury Launches New Travel Website in Response to Rising Occupancy Rates

Growing Green Online, EcoLuxury Launches New Travel Website in Response to Rising Occupancy Rates

Citing 100% occupancy rates at their green vacation rentals and increased sales of green home products, EcoLuxury announced a new website with listings for green and hypo-allergenic vacation rental properties, green products guests often take home with them, and do-it-yourself guides for greening vacations and homes.

Delray Beach, FL (PRWEB) July 10, 2008

Citing 100% occupancy rates at their green vacation rentals and increased sales of green home products, EcoLuxury announced a new website with listings for green and hypo-allergenic vacation rental properties, green products guests often take home with them, and do-it-yourself guides for greening vacations and homes.

Dana G. Mayer, owner of EcoLuxury, said "We have 100% occupancy at our properties in Florida and Arizona. Many Americans skipped their vacations this year, but we found those who got a good price along with a high quality, healthy experience still hit the road."

Mayer explained why travelers choose green vacation rentals over more traditional lodgings, "Green is going mainstream. Affordable green vacation rentals are available all over Europe, and people want the same choices in the U. S. We have no shortage of guests and we didn't run any gas card or rate specials."

"Our customers consistently say they have trouble finding U. S. vacation rentals and products that don't harm them or the environment, so we designed a new website to give them a place to check out properties and products that don't have toxins or big footprints," Mayer continued. "Let's face it, why wouldn't someone want to be green? Everyone wants to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and stay in a house that isn't filled with pesticides and poisons."

As for why deep green practices pay off, Mayer says, "As consumers have more choices, they also become more discerning, they avoid businesses that green-wash and look for e-policies and labels demonstrating the business has a deep green commitment. We go far beyond simply saying we recycle and have changed light bulbs. That's not green in my book, although many B&Bs and listing services say it is."

The new EcoLuxury website features fully modernized, eco-friendly vacation rental homes in St. Augustine, FL, Scottsdale, AZ and Sedona, AZ. These luxury one to three bedroom villas and casitas offer fully equipped kitchens, Internet, pools, tennis courts, and spa tubs. The shop, coming online this fall will feature items that guests often to take home with them from the vacations spots, including local art and kitchen equipment. Free, online Green Guides include "Easygoing Green Vacation Tips," "Are You Getting Greenwashed?" among others.

DuPont Recognized Again for Agriculture Excellence

DuPont Recognized Again for Agriculture Excellence

DuPont Leader Points to Innovation and Collaboration

LONDON (Vocus) November 9, 2010

DuPont and retired DuPont scientist George Levitt received two prestigious Agrow Awards for innovation and excellence in agriculture. This is the third year DuPont has been recognized by Agrow, a leading provider of news, analysis and data to the global agriculture industry.

DuPont earned the Agrow Best Formulation Innovation award for the DuPont ™ CyazypyrTM insect control SuspoEmulsion formulation. SuspoEmulsion is a breakthrough technology that enables highly effective insect control with less active ingredient for a reduced environmental footprint. This innovative formulation’s optimal oil content ensures crop safety, while its minimized emulsifier level further reduces the environmental load.

Levitt, a retired senior principal investigator for DuPont, was honored with the Agrow Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering work in the discovery of the sulfonylurea (SU) herbicides. This innovative class of chemistry revolutionized the crop protection industry by providing growers with outstanding weed control at very low use rates. SU herbicides also have an excellent environmental profile that is still considered an industry standard today. Levitt’s achievements have been recognized with numerous honors and awards over the past three decades, including the U. S. National Medal of Technology and the American Chemical Society Heroes of Chemistry Award.

“At DuPont, more than 50 percent of the $1.4 billion annual research and development investment is directed at helping growers increase food production,” said James C. Collins, president DuPont Crop Protection. “We are honored to be recognized for this focus on advancing agriculture. We share this recognition with George Levitt, growers, regulatory agencies and universities we collaborate with every day to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions for the world’s rapidly growing population. DuPont is both proud and pleased that the science accomplishment of George Levitt continues to be recognized.”

DuPont has earned a total of eight awards since Agrow launched the program in 2007. In 2009, DuPont earned three Agrow Awards in the categories of Most Innovative Chemistry, Best Off-Patent Pesticide Strategy and Best Innovation in Non-Crop. In 2007, the company earned awards for Most Innovative Chemistry, Best R&D Pipeline and Best Novel Agricultural Biotechnology.

The Agrow Awards were developed to recognize excellence in the crop protection and production industry. Entries are judged using a wide range of criteria by an independent judging panel consisting of a group of senior experts from around the world.

DuPont (http://www. dupont. com) is a science-based products and services company. Founded in 1802, DuPont puts science to work by creating sustainable solutions essential to a better, safer, healthier life for people everywhere. Creative HR Programs that Span Generations

Creative HR Programs that Span Generations

Whether you are a member of the Baby-Boomer, Gen X, or Gen Y generation, chances are that your year of birth has a direct impact on your work habits. The same goes for your employees. The key to successful recruitment and retention is learning how to tap into these behavioral factors and customize your HR programs accordingly.

Creative HR Programs that Span Generations

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 1, 2004 – Whether you are a member of the Baby-Boomer, Gen X, or Gen Y generation, chances are that your year of birth has a direct impact on your work habits. The same goes for your employees. The key to successful recruitment and retention is learning how to tap into these behavioral factors and customize your HR programs accordingly.

Each generation has its own priorities and goals. Baby-Boomers (born between 1945 – 1965) are sending kids through school and approaching retirement. Their strong sense of loyalty, not to mention their years of knowledge and experience make them vital members of the workforce.

Generation X (born between 1965 – 1980) are focused on their career development, work/life balance and childcare. They are drawn to opportunities that allow them to learn, enjoy and be recognized. They are known to be tech-savvy and independent.

Right behind Generation X is Generation Y (born between 1980 – 1994), a group that is valued for its individuality, efficiency and uniqueness. This group is driven by a strong need for instant gratification, and according to Bruce Tulgan in “Managing Generation Y – Part 2”, are even more tech-savvy than their Generation X siblings.

According to Mike Maciekowich, Astron Solutions’ National Director, employers must first set the groundwork. “It is important that organizations have a structured compensation philosophy prior to allowing for generational difference. The compensation policy acts as a blueprint to follow in the design and implementation of the program,” says Maciekowich.

Once these key components are put into place, HR practitioners can then continue with their generational compensation design.

As Maciekowich explained, “It’s imperative to keep reward strategies flexible. Generational benefits are all about flexibility.” He also stressed that employers must be aware of discrimination issues. “To stay within the legal boundaries, try using seniority as a factor in paying for healthcare coverage. The idea is to reward seniority, but not in pay, in order to avoid artificial compression and problems with equity.”

Employers must understand what rewards their employees more. “Pension benefits are more important to Baby Boomers. Generation X and Generation Y are more concerned about their personal career development and their personal wealth accumulation,” added Maciekowich.

In addition to the desire to retain the best workers, the statistical reality is that as the Boomers approach retirement age, there are fewer members of Gen X and Gen Y to replace them. Therefore, it is vital that employers take the necessary steps to keep their employees happy.

If you would like a copy of Mike Maciekowich’s presentation, “Tailoring Your Total Rewards Package to Meet Workforce Needs” please send your request to smterry@astronsolutions. com. If you are interested in having Mr. Maciekowich speak at your conference or organization on this topic, please send an email to info@astronsolutions. com.

Sino Veda Herbal Product Maker Goes Natural in Edmonton Research Park

Sino Veda Herbal Product Maker Goes Natural in Edmonton Research Park

Edmonton Research Park offers conducive environment for company growth

Edmonton, AB (PRWEB) March 24, 2010

Edmonton Research Park based company Sino Veda (http://www. edmonton. com/edmonton-research-park/featured-innovator. aspx) is revolutionizing herbal remedies by using only natural ingredients and advanced manufacturing techniques. Although herbal remedies have been used around the world for centuries, only recently has modern medicine been able to capture the full potential of these natural ingredients.

“Natural products have received bad press over the years because of concerns about quality,” said Nuzhat Tam-Zaman, pharmacokinetics expert and co-founder of SinoVeda. “To obtain the highest levels of safety and purity, our ‘Pharmaceutical Platform Technology’ production method ensures every dose has the same amount of absorbable ingredients.” For consumers, this example of Edmonton innovation (http://www. edmonton. com/edmonton-research-park/about-erp. aspx) results in an end product that is purer, safer and standardized.

“We know nature has a lot to offer,” says Tam-Zaman. “We discovered in our research that ingredients in herbs have multiple functions and, at times, act synergistically together. We have a systematic approach to identifying and quantifying these ingredients. As well, our products undergo rigorous quality control tests before we manufacture them.” SinoVeda’s current product line includes Echinacea, Ginkgo Biloba, Panax Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Lingzhi and Cordyceps, to be released in Canada in April.

The company’s newest product promises to shake up the studies of bone health and osteoporosis at the Edmonton research centre (http://www. edmonton. com/edmonton-research-park/1162.aspx). Pearlium is a patent-pending formula containing vitamin D, magnesium, zinc and a form of highly soluble calcium acetate extracted from oyster pearls. Through SinoVeda’s production technique, the daily dosage of calcium in Pearlium is 300 mg compared to 1,000 mg in traditional supplements. The product is expected to enter the market this summer, followed by a clinical trial to test its effectiveness in treating postmenopausal women with osteoporosis.

Based at the 138-hectare Edmonton Research Park since 2007, SinoVeda has been a tenant in the Biotechnology Business Development Centre, a multi-tenant facility that provides emerging biotechnology firms with developed wet lab and office space at below-market lease rates and flexible lease terms, making scientific research in Edmonton extremely appealing.

“SinoVeda is an outstanding example of Edmonton’s flourishing biotechnology sector. We provide a nurturing environment, complemented by facilities and services, to develop and diversify Edmonton’s economy,” said Candace Brinsmead, Vice-President of Technology Advancement at the research park. “The Edmonton Research Park has been very beneficial in providing the amount of lab space we need. The cost is competitive and the environment is very encouraging,” said Tam-Zaman.
