AP9 Passport to Fun Wants Riders to be Safe During National Bicycle Month

AP9 Passport to Fun Wants Riders to be Safe During National Bicycle Month

AP9 Passport to Fun Saves Cycling Enthusiasts Money on Summer Purchases and Outings

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) April 28, 2006

Whether it’s their hobby or their preferred choice of transportation, millions of people ride bicycles. Unfortunately, thousands suffer injuries each year due to collisions with cars and other accidents. Summer should be a relaxing and memorable season, which is why AP9 Passport to Fun (http://www. passporttofun-program. com/), a leading entertainment discount membership program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC, urges cyclists to ride safely.

AP9 Passport to Fun members enjoy significant savings at popular retailers and restaurants as well as on magazine subscriptions and a variety of home goods just by visiting DealPass (http://www. dealpass. com/). This convenient way to save money lets AP9 Passport to Fun members spend less money on purchases and more time on the bike trail.

With an AP9 Passport to Fun (http://www. passporttofun-program. com/) membership, you can save up to 20% -- on movie tickets, golf, home entertainment and that summer reading list. And remember with these cycling tips for an enjoyable and injury-free summer:

-- Think head first. Riders should always wear a properly fitting helmet, no matter how short the bike ride, to avoid catastrophic head injuries. The helmet should fit on the top of the head and not tip back. Immediately replace the helmet after a crash. Visit a cycling retailer for help with a proper fit.

-- Follow the road rules. Whether you’re riding four wheels or two, the same traffic rules apply. Bicyclists should ride in the same direction as traffic in the lane farthest to the right. Obey all traffic lights, signals and lane markings. Use hand signals to indicate braking, stopping and turns.

-- Maximize visibility. Wear brightly colored clothing when riding, no matter the time of day. Mount a white headlight on the handlebars or front area of the bike, and put a red light under the seat or above the rear fender. Reflective tape is an easy way to add visibility both on clothing and on a bicycle.

-- Ensure a safe family ride. Children on bicycles can present an unpredictable situation, mostly because kids don’t know traffic laws like adults do and because they’re unsupervised. Children should wear appropriately sized helmets and brightly colored clothing, too, as they’re less visible to motorists than adults. When out on a family jaunt, be sure to ride at a slower pace so the whole family stays together.

-- Tune it up. Like cars, bicycles require periodic maintenance. Before setting out on that summer afternoon ride, check brake pads and lines and the chain for wear. Wipe dirt off the chain with a clean rag; lubricate as needed.

So remember to ride safe and shop smart with budget-friendly discounts available from AP9 Passport to Fun.

President Bush Signs Act to Eliminate the American Dream, Says Elder Law Attorney

President Bush Signs Act to Eliminate the American Dream, Says Elder Law Attorney

David Danda, Elder Law Attorney and Founder of the law firm David E. Danda, PC, made an astonishing discovery. When President Bush Signed the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 on February 8, 2006, one of the great American dreams quietly died. The DRA virtually wiped out the American Dream for working Americans and nobody noticed. To date the White House has not made an official statement; leaving many Americans to wonder what else do I have to do for my country.

Atlanta, Ga. (PRWEB) November 22, 2006 -

David Danda, Elder Law Attorney and Founder of the law firm David E. Danda, PC http://www. daviddanda. com (http://www. daviddanda. com) announced that the great American dream of working hard, saving your money and leaving something for your kids is no longer a viable alternative for most middle-class Americans. According to Mr. Danda, the magnitude of the President signing the DRA was overlooked by the reporters and evening news. The death of this cherished dream was surprisingly not the lead story on the evening news on February 8, 2006. And an obituary did not appear in the morning paper. Danda states "A great American dream died and no one noticed."

Danda maintains that "politicians in Washington routinely give voter-friendly names to laws passed by Congress and the recent DRA decision is no exception." An example is that a tax increase by definition also reduces the deficit. By signing in the DRA, Washington passed responsibility for long term care from the government onto the shoulders of the hard-working middle-class Americans who made this country prosperous. Danda states that "Washington is simply asking America's Greatest Generation once again to answer President Kennedy's call to 'ask what you can do for your country.'" According to Mr. Danda "the DRA will take money from America's Greatest Generation before they die and may take their home after they die. Prior to the DRA there was no limit on the value of the home. Clearly this is not fair to the hard-working Americans who are fueled the economy from the end of WWII and are now retired."

According to Danda, "just when you think you have won the game of life by retiring with money in the bank, Congress wants you to use your hard earned retirement money to pay for your long term care your nursing home expenses."

Danda continues that "the once honored tradition of saving money for your retirement does not seem to be a virtue for the Greatest Generation after the passage of the DRA." Instead, if you choose to spend your money frivolously during your life and are now surviving month-to-month on your social security retirement check, you qualify to have your long term care expenses paid by Medicaid. Danda maintains that "if you sacrificed for your country during your productive work years, believed in the great American dream by saving for your future and for the opportunity to pass on a financial nest egg to your children, now when you are most in need of your country doing something for you, the DRA penalizes you for being responsible American. You must sacrifice for your country one more time. You must dig into your pocket to pay for your nursing home expenses."

According to Mr. Danda "the secret to answering the long term health care riddle is to either die while you still have a good quality of life, if you have a nest egg to pass on to your children, or have no reserves and let the Medicaid system pay your nursing home expenses. "

After 9-11 Alan Jackson wrote a patriotic song about not knowing the difference between Iraq and Iran. Danda states "that all Americans, seniors, baby boomers, twenty-something's, need to know the difference between Medicare and Medicaid before it is time to retire." Most Americans are confused about Medicare and Medicaid for two reasons. Their names appear to be similar and both provide access to health care service. Nevertheless, the programs are substantially different in a number of key areas, and the average American is not aware how either program works.

Medicare is an "entitlement program" which is a health insurance program for retirees. Danda says that "if you apply for Social Security retirement, you will also receive Medicare benefits." Medicaid on the other hand is a "needs" based program designed to help pay the medical expenses of seniors, and is restricted to those who meet very strict eligibility criteria. Medicaid recipients must qualify for services. Danda continues that "the majority of Americans do not qualify for Medicaid." According to the guidelines, "seniors are only eligible for Medicaid if they satisfy both the financial and non-financial eligibility rules. Medicaid is typically available to individuals who do not have sufficient income and assets to pay for their own long term care," according to Danda.

Danda continues that "the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services rejected an amendment to the Georgia Medicaid state plan which sought to increase the state's estate recovery exemption from $25,000 to $100,000 which would have offered a degree of protection for many Georgians. The bottom-line is that in Georgia, after Mom and Dad spend their reserves on nursing home care and Medicaid pays for their continuing care, when Mom and Dad die, they will only be able to leave $25,000 to their kids."

Due to these harsh rules, Mr. Danda says that "it is crucial for all American, especially the baby boom generation, to get started early and purchase long term care insurance. With the newly passed DRA, it is vital for everyone, even those who are just entering the market place, to have a long term care plan and long term care insurance. According to Danda, "the key is to prepare. Our population will continue to live longer and longer. Many of us might live well into our 80's or even our 90's which might require us to have the pleasure of spending 5 to 10 years in a nursing home."

Emirca to Develop KinexusÂ’ Web Reporting Engine and Wealth Management System

Emirca to Develop KinexusÂ’ Web Reporting Engine and Wealth Management System

Emirca Technologies, a global provider of Internet-based applications and software development, today announced that Kinexus, the market leader in the wealth management technology in the U. S., has appointed Emirca Technologies to develop its web reporting engine and wealth management system. This technology will enable Kinexus and advisors to give their most sophisticated and demanding clients a comprehensive, current, and accurate picture of their total worth – across institutions, asset classes, countries, and currencies - along with a range of value-added tools to help them make the most of their wealth.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 12, 2004

Emirca Technologies, (http://www. emirca. com (http://www. emirca. com)), a global provider of Internet-based applications and software development, today announced that Kinexus, the market leader in the wealth management technology in the U.

Kinexus wants to streamline their daily batch report generation process which is proven to be time-costly and not scalable. There also is a need to better integrate their SMS (Subscriber Management Solution) software with the reporting engine as any single change to SMS records results in regeneration of the whole report batch.

Emirca will design a dynamic report and hierarchical tree generation engine in the back-end to feed the web front-end. This new system will be able to automatically refresh, based on updates made to SMS records and the reports will be generated upon request in realtime. Emirca will also engineer a performance enhancer allowing most frequently requested reports by individual users to be automatically generated in parallel as a separate process upon a userÂ’s login.

This technology will enable Kinexus and advisors to give their most sophisticated and demanding clients a comprehensive, current, and accurate picture of their total worth – across institutions, asset classes, countries, and currencies - along with a range of value-added tools to help them make the most of their wealth. It will also enable a smoother new customer integration process.

Hollywood Welcomes “Legends And Prodigies” Celebrities gather to support new star-search contest with a positive social message

Hollywood Welcomes “Legends And Prodigies” Celebrities gather to support new star-search contest with a positive social message

On November 13, 2004, the first 'Legends and Prodigies' concert featuring Vince Neil with Sound and Fury will take place at the Key Club in Hollywood, CA. 'Legends and Prodigies' is a new star-search contest pairing new talent with music legends. Twenty percent of all proceeds of 'Legends and Prodigies' will be donated to AWARE to benefit alcohol research and education.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 29, 2004

On November 13, 2004, the first “Legends and Prodigies” concert featuring Vince Neil (the “Legend”), and Sound and Fury, an emerging rock band from Canada (the “Prodigy”) will take place at the world-famous Key Club on Sunset Blvd. Legends and Prodigies is a new star-search contest that offers young, talented musicians (rock, R&B, hip-hop, Latin) a unique chance to be promoted via live performances and international tours together with legendary artists in their corresponding musical genres.

Unlike American Idol and many other contests, Legends and Prodigies is only open to aspiring professional musicians who have a qualified demo. The concept of Legends and Prodigies also has other elements that clearly set it apart from other contests.

The contest will take place every year and will be conducted as follows. First, Legends and Prodigies Entertainment will secure a legendary artist for each of the featured musical genres and makes an official announcement marking the beginning of the contest. Second, a jury, consisting of established musicians and industry professionals, reviews entries and select the top 3 bands/performers in each musical style. All three winners in each genre will be flown to LA for the contestÂ’s final round, a live audition with the grand jury headed by the Legend.

While the grand jury can and will make suggestions, in the end, it is entirely up to the Legend to choose the top group/performer (Prodigy). The newly crowned Prodigy will get to open for the Legend in the contestÂ’s final event, and will accompany the Legend on an international tour, which will follow the contest.

In addition to an international tour with the Legend, the winnerÂ’s package includes attractive promotional items like a 60-foot Billboard and two electronic jumbotrons on Sunset Blvd. for two months (where approximately 3.5 million people pass every month), international media exposure, two top-quality music videos, a Legends and Prodigies CD (studio recording), and professional footage from the event.

Vince Neil, the legendary rock musician, best-known as lead singer of Motley Crue, selected Sound and Fury as this year’s Prodigy because he felt the group was the next big thing coming. “I think Sound and Fury has big future. There’s definitely real talent in there. It’s genuine, you know. It just rocks! Bottom line is, when they get on stage, they electrify the audience.”

Founders of Legends and Prodigies have another goal besides promoting outstanding musical talent. The contest aims to raise awareness, bring renewed public attention and become part of solution to the one of the greatest problems shared by most countries: alcohol abuse and its societal consequences.

“Legends and Prodigies is a brilliant idea, in that it will provide both an outlet for discovery of new musical talent, and an arena for musicians to endorse alcohol responsibility while having a good time. Those messages are especially powerful when they come from a person who can say, ‘been there, done that. It’s not worth it.’ This year’s Legend, Vince Neil, is one such person”, says Mandy Barton, Director of California-based AWARE (Alliance for Worldwide Alcohol Responsibility and Education).

Mr. Neil, who has previously been known as a “hard partier,” has reinvented himself as a model of responsibility, moderation and healthy lifestyle and has an upcoming reality show on VH-1 that focuses on his remarkable lifestyle transformation.

The message seems to resonate with Hollywood, attracting a diverse cache of celebrities, including those who are not particularly huge heavy metal fans. “Alcohol awareness is an important issue and I like the idea of heavy metal doing its part to cure the ills of drinking. Call it Motley Cure. And knowing the organizers, it’s going to be a very cool event to say the least. So, count me in on this one,” says Olympic Gold medalist and former NFL star Willie Gault, who will join NBA star Dennis Rodman and other prominent athletes at the event.

Following the concert, there will be a private celebrity VIP party at one of HollywoodÂ’s most famous mansions. A limited number of VIP passes will be available to AWARE supporters for a donation of $1000 or more. In addition, as a special fundraising promotion, four sets of these passes, which give access to the VIP party at the Key Club and private celebrity after-party, will be auctioned off on Ebay to raise funds for AWARE.

Legends and Prodigies will donate 20% of all proceeds to AWARE. Tickets are $25 and are available through the Key Club box office or at Ticketmaster. A special rate of $12.50 will be made available to college students, 21 years of age and over, who purchase tickets through the Key Club box office with their valid student ID.

Allsup Salutes 18th Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act

Allsup Salutes 18th Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act

Greater access for people with disabilities means more who can keep working, reduces load on Social Security disability system.

Belleville, Ill. (Vocus) July 24, 2008

With the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990, a new era began in the lives of people with disabilities and their families. In 18 years, thousands of people have gained better access to methods that help them improve their own circumstances and take more control over their lives, according to Allsup, which represents people nationwide for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits (SSDI).

"We know from nearly 25 years' experience of helping people with disabilities that they simply want to be able to move forward," said CEO Jim Allsup. "People want to get back to their lives and share them with family and friends, no matter how different things may be following a disabling event."

More than 51 million people with disabilities live in the United States, according to the U. S. Census Bureau. Allsup sees everyday the lasting repercussions of ADA because the law has worked on behalf of people with disabilities to improve access, remove barriers and ensure inclusion.

"Businesses and organizations that comply with ADA make it possible for more people to remain in the workforce," Mr. Allsup said. "Most of our customers struggle with the realization that they can no longer work because of their disability and file for SSDI at last. ADA allows individuals to stay working longer because their workplace supports their ability to do so. The residual benefit is it reduces the stress on programs such as the Social Security Administration's disability benefits program."

In 1990, when ADA was signed into law by President George H. W. Bush, there were nearly 4.3 million disabled workers and dependents receiving Social Security disability benefits, and 1 million SSDI applicants, according to the SSA. In comparison, there are more than 8.9 million disabled workers and dependents receiving federal disability benefits today, and 2.5 million people apply for SSDI each year.

For its part, ADA has provided a standard of improvement that guides communities nationwide in how to improve access for people with disabilities.

"ADA's impact has been to make possible a better life for thousands of Americans," Mr. Allsup said. "Allsup strongly believes that this is everyone's dream--to make a better life. That's why we do what we do each day."

Earn a Paycheck Assembling Crafts at Home

Earn a Paycheck Assembling Crafts at Home

Americans are staying home more and earning more money thanks to the Home Crafts Work-at-Home Catalogue, by offering its buyers a list of American companies that want outwork, (work sent to the workers home, assembled there and send back to the company) done for them.

(PRWEB) March 22, 2005

At-home work is growing in popularity, and the Home crafts Work-at-Home Catalogue offers the aspiring home worker lists of companies looking for people to assemble basic craft items at home for cash.

"Most successful people have their own businesses. The popular saying that you cannot get rich working for somebody else appears true now more than ever."

Home Business Magazine

The author states that it is actually more economical for businesses to do this, by keeping the cost of assembly plants down, the need for a huge work force, and the need for benefits, such as health care coverage.

But the advantage is not only for the companies, since people can now stay at home with their children more, and free up their time for more recreational settings by working at home.

“...at-home workers have more free time and disposable money for recreation

And vacation time than clock-punchers and Americans at large.”

-Entrepreneur Magazine

Here is what a few purchasers had to say about their work-at-home expierience:

WOW... An extra $1000+ a month, for working just two hours a day. This is

An excellent catalog. Cheers.

Margaret C.

California.

Finally, after 3 years of wasting money, getting ripped-off, time after time by internet money making schemes, I have found what I have been looking for. An enjoyable way of making a living from my own home. I earned nearly $4,000 last month working part-time, This is truely unbelieveable and really simple. Your catalog is wonderful! You should be selling it for $149.

Sierra Tucson Adds Outpatient Assessment Services to Its Renowned Inpatient Programs

Sierra Tucson Adds Outpatient Assessment Services to Its Renowned Inpatient Programs

Outpatient Assessment Services are now available for Sierra Tucson’s Assessment and Diagnostic Program, including options for Brain SPECT Imaging and additional separate services.

Tucson, AZ (Vocus) July 7, 2010

For those who do not require the safety or intensity of inpatient care, Sierra Tucson (http://www. sierratucson. com/) will begin offering various Outpatient Assessment Services (http://www. sierratucson. com/programs_outptassmt. php) on August 2, 2010. Individuals may call beginning July 7, 2010, to schedule an appointment.

Sierra Tucson's renowned inpatient Assessment and Diagnostic Program (ADP) (http://www. sierratucson. com/programs_assmtprgrm. php), traditionally a 4 ½-day program providing in-depth evaluation for complex diagnostic concerns, is now also being offered on an outpatient basis. As an outpatient service, the ADP can require as little as one to three days, depending on the complexity of the testing required.

“Providing Outpatient Assessment Services will significantly expand the population that can benefit from Sierra Tucson’s clinical expertise,” says Robert R. Johnson, D. O., Sierra Tucson’s Medical Director. “Sophisticated medical and clinical evaluation will become much more affordable and accessible. This will enable more people to obtain assessment results and receive the direction and treatment needed to heal physically, mentally, and spiritually.”

The ADP’s intensive medical, psychiatric, and psychological evaluations are combined with specific consultations and additional testing to achieve assessment goals. This program is often required due to diagnostic uncertainty, complexity, denial, or legal issues, sometimes involving State Boards or professional organizations.

Upon completion of the evaluation process a multidisciplinary assessment team, consisting of physicians (psychiatrists and addictionologists), psychologists, therapists, and other licensed specialists, reviews assessment data and prepares an integrated diagnostic report. This comprehensive written report offers specific treatment recommendations. A round table feedback session is provided to the patient, the referring professional, and, when appropriate, family members or legal/professional supervisory personnel. Teleconference is available for those who cannot attend in person.

Sierra Tucson is also introducing a variety of “à la carte” assessment services (http://www. sierratucson. com/programs_outptassmt. php#84), which include Brain SPECT Imaging, Psychological Testing, Psychiatric Consultation, Grief/Loss Consultation, and more.

SPECT scans are always combined with a Psychiatric Evaluation, which interprets the scan in relation to the person’s clinical history. Psychiatric Consultations can be requested directly by an individual or as a second opinion by a professional therapist or physician.

Brain SPECT Imaging, an innovative tool that can provide helpful motivational and diagnostic data, is an optional part of the ADP. SPECT (Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography) scans produce vivid, three-dimensional pictures of brain physiology. Dr. Johnson advises, “In experienced hands, Brain SPECT Imaging provides clinically useful information on how an individual’s brain functions, particularly in complex or treatment-resistant cases. This more complete diagnostic picture adds biological information to the presenting problem, often helping to inform treatment planning while drawing out compassion and understanding from family members.”

“Not only is Sierra Tucson making SPECT imaging more accessible, but we are combining it with our expertise in medical and psychiatric evaluation,” states Dr. Johnson, “to provide a broad, unique, and clinically valuable service.”

More information about Sierra Tucson’s Outpatient Assessment Services and inpatient programming is available on Sierra Tucson's website (http://www. sierratucson. com/).

USA Hockey Takes Gold at Brain Fitness Innovation Awards; Allstate & Nationwide Mutual Insurance Runners-up

USA Hockey Takes Gold at Brain Fitness Innovation Awards; Allstate & Nationwide Mutual Insurance Runners-up

The USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) flexed its brain muscle by taking the top medal in SharpBrains first annual Brain Fitness Innovation Awards.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 24, 2010

The USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP) flexed its brain muscle by taking the top medal in SharpBrains first annual Brain Fitness Innovation Awards (http://www. sharpbrains. com/innovation-awards/).

Designed to foster innovation and best practice sharing, the Awards celebrate outstanding pioneers applying neuroplasticity-based research and tools in the ‘real world’. Put on by independent market research firm SharpBrains of San Francisco, the Awards recognize organizations devising and implementing results-oriented, scalable initiatives demonstrating commitment to the brain fitness of organization clients, members, patients, students or employees—and showcase innovative uses of non-invasive tools to improve cognitive and emotional functions.

The podium’s top position went to USA Hockey’s NTDP, a full-time development program aimed at preparing student-athletes for participation on the US National Under-18 and Under-17 Teams, for its innovative cognitive training system designed with the help of Applied Cognitive Engineering (ACE) and the BIRD Foundation to help hockey players develop perception and decision-making skills. More than two years in the making and $2 million to produce, the Hockey IntelliGym offers players a video-game-like training environment to enhance ‘hockey-sense’—the information gathered from surroundings to make and execute playing decisions on-ice. According to statistics, IntelliGym training helped NTDP teams win more games than non-trained teams.

Judges selected the entry for its inspiring team approach—an intersection between specialist, coach and player. To adapt such a program and demonstrate its impact on real-life performance, they felt, opened new opportunities for extension to other sports and everyday life.

“We’re extremely honored that the Hockey IntelliGym is being recognized with this prestigious award,” said Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey. “Together with ACE and the BIRD Foundation, we’re proud to have developed what is a truly innovative training product that helps enhance the decision-making skills of our athletes.”

Entries from Allstate and Nationwide Mutual Insurance rounded out the competition’s other top-performers. Nationwide Mutual Insurance’s ‘Healthy Holiday Challenge’ offered a Web based tool—MyBrainSolutions—to help employees enhance positivity, emotional resilience and deal with others more effectively — all key elements to productivity. In Pennsylvania, Allstate invited selected drivers, 50 years and older, to help validate the impact targeted cognitive training such as Posit Science InSight can have on driving safety in an effort to prevent injuries, save lives, enable older people to maintain their independence longer and provide peace of mind to adult children faced with difficult decisions as parents age.

The remaining finalists included:
AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety Arrowsmith School Mental Health Association of Rockland County Oakland Unified School District Saint Luke’s Brain and Stroke Institute SCAN Health Plan University Behavioral HealthCare/University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey

In its first year, the competition showed considerable promise with 40 entries from prestigious organizations and companies around the world. “We’re delighted to have so many entries which showcase that brain fitness is for everyone at any age,” said SharpBrains’ CEO and Co-Founder Alvaro Fernandez. “The brain fitness field is still in its infancy but given today’s longer life spans and the accompanying desire to make those years healthy and productive, we believe it’s important to recognize those organizations pioneering the way and adding to collective learning.”

A full 200+ page market report detailing all ten finalist case studies in the context of overall research and market trends will be available next month. Reporters interested in covering the report, please send an email to: (rebecca (at) brinkconsulting (dot) biz).

A press kit for the Awards is available at: (http://www. sharpbrains. com/innovation-awards/ (http://www. sharpbrains. com/innovation-awards/)).

LITCHFIELD, CT (PRWEB) October 15, 2004

Investigative reporter Andy Thibault will deliver the Pew Memorial Lecture Law & Justice in Everyday Life to the Widener University community in Chester, PA, on Monday, Oct. 18, 2004 at noon. The lecture is free and open to the public.

From the latest in headline grabbing news to stories and events that rock the American justice system, Andy Thibault will bring to light true life stories of ordinary citizens as they encounter the justice system. From the pages of his critically acclaimed book Law & Justice in Everyday Life, -- with a foreword by F. Lee Bailey, and introduction by Howard Zinn, Mr. ThibaultÂ’s lecture will tackle political cover-ups, government misconduct, police corruption and civil rights violations, and give first hand accounts and commentary on his experiences with these issues as an investigative reporter.

Mr. Thibault has reported on police brutality in Hartford, Connecticut, the Russian Mob in Brooklyn, New York, and the pipe bombing at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, Georgia. He also covered the independent counsel investigation into the finances of the late U. S. Commerce Secretary, Ron Brown, and the Young & Rubicam “Come Back to Jamaica” kickback scandal. Most recently, he has written about the cover-up of a sexual assault at the Niantic, Connecticut women’s prison.

Immediately following Mr. ThibaultÂ’s lecture will be a Q & A period. Members of the audience are encouraged to ask Mr. Thibault questions and/or comment on the lecture.

About Andy Thibault:

Thibault, author of Law & Justice in Everyday Life, is a columnist for Law Tribune Newspapers, adjunct professor of journalism at the University of Hartford, and managing partner of Murzin-Thibault Investigative Group LLC. He is the author of the just released book, History of the Connecticut State Police, and business books including The 12-Minute MBA for Lawyers. He is editor of APS Publications (http://www. apsreview. com/ (http://www. apsreview. com/)), the publishing arm of the Association of Productivity Specialists, and a contributing writer for StateÂ’s Most Wanted (www. statesmostwanted. com).

Mr. Thibault has been an editor at such publications as The Hartford Courant, The Stamford Advocate, The Commercial Record, Norwich Bulletin, Register Citizen and The Times Leader. His profiles of subjects including poets and prosecutors, as well as essays on the arts, have appeared in Connecticut Magazine and Northeast Magazine. His work has also appeared on “Page Six” of The New York Post. He is a former commissioner and hearing officer for the Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission, an agency charged with opening access to government records; a former vice chairman of the Litchfield Board of Education and a former board member of the Connecticut Commission on the Arts.

He co-authored and edited a series on the court systemÂ’s handling of a juvenile sexual assault case in 1982 and 1983 that led to changes in Connecticut law regarding the status of juveniles in adult court. The series won first place prizes from the National Newspaper Association for investigative reporting, the New England Press Association for community service and the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists for in-depth reporting.

Mr. Thibault is a member of the National Conference of Editorial Writers, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Connecticut Library Association and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers. He also serves on the advisory board of the Connecticut Center for the Book, an affiliate of the Library of Congress.

Thibault's work as an investigative reporter and feature writer has earned numerous state and national awards. A judge from the Society of Professional Journalists writing competition has said this about Thibault's probe of the cover-up of a hit-and-run death in a Connecticut city: "The writer explores whether New London's former mayor benefited from a widespread cover-up for the 1973 hit-and-run death of a college student. Witty, compelling - the writer has a knack for speaking in conversational tone, all the while quietly weaving in crucial facts to support his arguments that more people should be outraged by the shoddy circumstances surrounding the 1973 investigation."

In September 2004, The Hartford Courant and The Connecticut Law Tribune reported that the FBI seized notes, cameras, a journalist's phone book containing sources and other materials from investigators working with the Murzin-Thibault Investigative Group. Lawyers chastised the government for taking the materials, noting the Fourth Amendment prohibits such seizures.

In addition, Mr. Thibault also manages a non-profit foundation that awards $1,000 prizes annually to young poets and writers in Connecticut. The IMPAC-Connecticut State University Young Writers Trust www. ctyoungwriters. org has given $100,000 to teen-age poets and writers since 1998.

Andy Thibault and his wife, Lora, an insurance company executive, are the parents of four children.

Vista International, Inc. Announces Growth Plans for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Growth

Vista International, Inc., announced on July 20th 2007, that it had signed on July 13th 2007 a definitive stock purchase agreement to purchase controlling interest in Nathaniel Energy (NECX) from its major shareholder, Richard Strain. The transaction is scheduled to close by July 27, 2007.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 23, 2007

Vista International, Inc., announced on July 20th 2007, that it had signed on July 13th 2007 a definitive stock purchase agreement to purchase controlling interest in Nathaniel Energy (NECX) from its major shareholder, Richard Strain. The transaction is scheduled to close by July 27, 2007.

Vista International is a progressive company that has been devoted to the creation and expansion of businesses which supply innovative products and technologies to the global community for more than 18 years. As a technology holding company, Vista International brings together ideas and technologies which individually and in-concert promote self-sustaining community development.

Vista International believes it’s important to understand the company, its plan for the technologies within the company and how they plan to incorporate NECX into the company’s overall strategy and operations. Vista International is committed to approaching business in a manner more innovative than most businesses in today’s fast pace environment.

Vista International stands for “Vision, Integrity, Science, Technology, Alternatives” (VISTA), the corner stone of how the company does business. Vista International believes it has the Vision to see opportunity when others do not; the Integrity to conduct business in a responsible, environmentally sound and sustainable manner, while assuring inventors or technology minded individuals have a fighting chance to succeed without the concern of being taken advantage of or seeing their technologies shelved; using Science to provide a healthier environment and alternatives for medical treatments which rely on traditional drugs or therapies; using Technology to improve our overall quality of life; and more importantly to use Alternatives that are not traditional but represent “out of the box” applications.

Vista International is committed first and foremost to create manufacturing jobs in the U. S., resulting in the sustainable export of our products, technologies and services into “all” the countries in which the company has developed in excess of $10.5 Billion USD of business opportunity in the waste-to-energy/fuels market during the last 30 months. NECX is expected to benefit from the development of this business pipeline.

Vista International has developed relationships on a global basis for the deployment of all its technologies for the benefit of all its shareholders and partners. The company’s relationships are broad and extensive ranging from the executive corporate level to all levels of government, and from the small local towns or villages to mega sized cities in China, SE Europe, Mexico, the West Indies, Canada, Great Britain, Europe and, of course, in the USA.

Vista International has developed and continues to develop strategic partnerships with various US corporate organizations that have an international presence to assist implementing the company’s global growth plans. Vista International focuses on helping small companies grow as they find small companies to be aggressive and innovative.
Vista International has been asked to participate in a number of international organizations that will help expand its growth into other countries where it has yet to explore business opportunities to deploy its technologies, products and services. This exposure will also expand the company’s presence in the countries where they already do business.

The company’s approach is to Build, Own and Operate (BOO) their projects to assure success, protect the company’s IP and secure long term positive cash-flow. According to Vista International’s Chief Executive Officer, Johan C. Smith, “Our objective is to maximize shareholder value within NECX by providing the opportunity to offer diversified renewable energy products and services in the near future,” similar to those offered by Vista International. These technologies will focus primarily on waste-to-energy solutions, production of high (120-130+) octane alcohol fuels, low wind speed turbines, full spectrum energy saving lighting, clean affordable drinking water, portable power stations and alternative engines.

New Online Recruiting Marketplace Strengthens the Recruiting Industry in the Midst of a Soft Economy

New Online Recruiting Marketplace Strengthens the Recruiting Industry in the Midst of a Soft Economy

Company launches new online recruiting site and grows market with innovative business model designed to fill employer jobs faster.

Carlsbad, CA (PRWEB) July 18, 2008

Dayak, the online recruiting marketplace that links employers with professional recruiters, recently launched its full-service innovative Web site to quickly and efficiently fill employer job openings.

Although it seems odd to launch a new recruiting resource in a time of increased unemployment (http://tinyurl. com/6ntalp), Dayak CEO Allan Sabol says that now is exactly the time that corporate America needs a resource like Dayak. “The perfect time to slash corporate recruiting costs is in a time of economic slow-down,” says Sabol. “Dayak (http://tinyurl. com/6ntalp) allows employers to fill jobs faster than ever before without having to pay 20-30% fees.”

According to a study conducted by the Association of Executive Search Consultants, the last two quarters of 2007 saw a downturn in the U. S. economy (http://tinyurl. com/6ntalp), however, year-end net revenues for the global executive search industry rose 22 percent from Q4 2006 to Q4 2007. Additionally, according to the Bureau Labor of Statistics in the month of June 2008, employment (http://tinyurl. com/6ntalp) continued to fall in industries such as construction and manufacturing, but strong job growth continued in other industries such as health care, oil and gas, and mining.

In accordance with this fact and in the current economic climate, human resource professionals are getting inundated with resumes from candidates in weaker industries, but are struggling to find the talent needed to fill critical positions in their own industries. Companies continue to search for new recruiting tools that will allow them to find qualified candidates without sifting through hundreds of job-board (http://tinyurl. com/6ntalp) resumes or spending thousands of dollars on outside recruiting firms.

“Even in a weak economy, most companies struggle to find talented employees. Employers want a better and faster method to find high-quality candidates, which is exactly what Dayak provides,” said Sabol. “We are proud to offer full-service recruiting without the full-service price tag.”

Dayak’s new recruiting solution allows employers and recruiters an opportunity to work together to fill open positions in nearly every industry. There are no costs associated with posting a job on Dayak and employers may post as many jobs as they desire. Employers only pay for successful hires and are provided a 60-day money back guarantee. To date, Dayak has registered nearly 1,000 employers, over 2,000 recruiters, and has secured job postings from acclaimed companies such as Wal-Mart, Sangamo BioSciences, Schlumberger, L’Oreal, Terminix, XM Satellite Radio and Valero Energy.

“A unique and welcome feature of this service [Dayak] is the ability to curb the level of our staffing costs by being able to set our own placement fee structure, well below the typical agency fee ranges,” says Sangamo BioSciences Staffing Consultant, William Sanchez. “The cost of a hire is greatly reduced, and these savings allow us more flexibility to craft an offer of employment. We can essentially pass on some of these savings to our new employee, in terms of bonuses, and relocation costs.”

About Dayak
Dayak is an innovative, full-service recruiting (http://tinyurl. com/6ntalp) marketplace that connects employers with a nationwide network of professional recruiters, enabling jobs to be filled faster and more efficiently than ever before. Headquartered in Carlsbad, Calif., Dayak has a unique business model designed to correct the inefficiencies of the recruiting industry by reducing employer’s recruiting fees by up to 50%. In June 2008, Dayak won the “Most Likely to Succeed” award in the Next Generation Internet category at “Launch: Silicon Valley 2008.” This is one of the most prestigious awards granted to startup entrepreneurs in emerging technology companies. KONG Male Enhancement Announces Introduction of Kong Redhorn Male Performance Capsules

KONG Male Enhancement Announces Introduction of Kong Redhorn Male Performance Capsules

Kong male enhancement products have developed a new product called Kong Red Horn. Kong Red Horn is a Chinese Herbal blend that is slated for a March 2006 release.

West Palm Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 2, 2006

Kong male enhancement products has developed a new product called Kong Red Horn. Kong Red Horn is a Chinese Herbal blend that is slated for a March 2006 release.

Kong Redhorn will be a unique fast acting blend to be used with existing Kong products. Kong Redhorn was developed in response to customers requesting specific chinese herbal formulations to be taken with Kong products to further enhance the sexual enhancement properties of the original Kong and Kong Black Voodoo formulations.

According to Anne Marie Colbin, author of Food and Healing, “An aphrodisiac is a substance that will expand and relax someone who is sexually too tight, or contract and strengthen someone who is too spacey and scattered.”(14) A number of Chinese herbal aphrodisiacs have both of these properties; they contain compounds that can stimulate as well as sedate your nervous system."

This dual effect of chinese herbs is not widely know in Western Medicine, but because of their dual actions Chinese herbal aphrodisiacs are legendary. The Chinese have invested a few thousand years of research in perfecting herbal formulas for preserving sexual vitality.

Kong RedHorn will employ chinese herbs proven to enhance sexual performance in addition to supporting elevated aphrodisiac benefits for men or women.

Kong Red Horn is slated for release in March 2006 and customers may learn more about Kong Red Horn by visiting www. getKong. com or www. KongRedHorn. com.

Chinese herbal ingredients such as Chinese Rhodiola Rhizome Extract and Tienchi Ginseng Extract have been used for centuries by the Chinese as potent sexual performance enhancers and will be incorporated into the Kong Redhorn capsule formulation.

Kong tablets and Kong Black Voodoo capsules have been male enhancement/enlargement category leaders for several years and many customers have come to love the potent Kong formulations and what these products do to improve their sexual performance and experience.

Many women have also dug into their guy's medicine cabinet to sample Kong and have reported a significant increase in sex drive and sensation. Presumably due to increased vasodialation and blood flow to the genitalia.

Kong has been featured or appeared in many leading men's publications such as Arena Men's Magazine and FHM and is widely recognized as the leading product for quality and efficacy in the male enhancement category.

AP9 24 Protect Plus Offers Baby Safety Tips for New Parents and Inexperienced Caregivers

AP9 24 Protect Plus Offers Baby Safety Tips for New Parents and Inexperienced Caregivers

AP9 24 Protect Plus Provides Members Significant Savings to Safeguard Their Families, Homes, Finances and Much More.

Norwalk, CONN. (PRWEB) August 28, 2006

September is Baby Safety Month, and members of AP9 24 Protect Plus (http://www.24protectplus-program. com/), a premier security program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC and conveniently accessed through Dealpass. com, can access their benefits to help ensure the safety of what they value the most: their family and their home.

Parents develop an instinctive sense of protection and safety that helps them detect the dangers around the house for babies, toddlers and kids of any age. Unfortunately, instinct often isn’t enough; to gain true wisdom, parents also have a learning curve they need to go through when it comes to childproofing the house and car and establishing safety rules for the outdoors. Members of AP9 24 Protect Plus can save during this process when they use their benefits to safeguard their home and belongings, especially when they pre-purchase gift cards through the program at a 20% savings, gift cards they can use to purchase items to keep their children safe.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), about 2.5 million children are injured or killed each year by hazards in the home. It’s therefore critical to childproof your home and make sure grandparents, relatives and babysitters know the rules of the house and how to operate all of the childproofing devices in the home. AP9 24 Protect Plus (http://www.24protectplus-program. com/) has put together a list of useful tips for those who are new to the childcare process:

--Keep your eyes and ears open. No gadget, no matter how fabulous or state-of-the-art it is, can take the place of constant supervision. Some devices give caregivers a false sense of security, especially for those who are not used to being around babies or toddlers. Remind relatives and friends of the importance of continuous supervision at all times. No matter how carefully you’ve childproofed the house, your visitors may not be as vigilant as you are.

--Learn to operate childproofing devices. A safety gate, used improperly, can pose a hazard to children. Retailers have come up with new designs and techniques to make gates hard to open, not just for children, but for some adults as well. Make sure you know how to operate all the safety tools in your house before you install them. From gates to monitors and cabinet locks, you should know how to open and close each one properly to avoid potential accidents that can occur if you try to figure them out while you should be paying attention to the kids.

--Think twice. Common sense takes on a whole new dimension when there are little ones around. While leaving cleaning products on the counter or under the bathroom and kitchen sinks may present no danger at all for you, these elements present imminent danger of poisoning when kids are nearby. Similarly, leaving the outside door open “for just a sec” while you go to the car, or leaving kids on top of the bed while you answer the phone, can be very risky business. Kids can fall, drown, choke or get burned in the blink of an eye. Think twice about doing anything else while trying to take care of a baby or a toddler at the same time.

--Buckle them up properly. New parents often go to a car clinic or their town’s Police Department to have their car seat properly installed, but if you take care of children only a couple of times a week or a month, merely installing a car seat can be a challenging task. It takes 20 minutes to learn how to do it properly, so take the time to learn. While driving a child around, it’s also important to remember that some toys can be more dangerous than others, so be sure to give them very soft toys, nothing that has sharp edges or is too heavy. Reminding everyone of the importance of using seat belts is also a good measure.

--Keep emergency numbers handy. While everyone knows this tip, it’s too often overlooked. Make sure you know where the list is, keep it in a visible place near your phones, and check it to make sure all the numbers you might ever need are there. Be sure to include the home, work and cellphone numbers of close relatives.

As a parent or member of a family with children, remember that keeping your children safe is an ongoing process, so it’s recommended that you re-evaluate all of your precautionary measures regularly. A baby might not be able to climb the entertainment unit, but a toddler will certainly try. And remember: Members can save money on all their home safety needs through 24 Protect Plus.

CDPHP® Launches In-House Behavioral Health

CDPHP® Launches In-House Behavioral Health

Nearly 20 Positions Added to Support New Unit

Albany, N. Y, (Vocus) January 20, 2010

In a continuous effort to better manage the totality of its members’ benefits, CDPHP (http://www. cdphp. com)® has rolled out a dedicated in-house behavioral health unit; behavioral health encompasses psychiatric care and mental health, as well as the treatment of chemical dependency including alcohol and substance abuse. The move is designed to further encourage close ties between CDPHP medical professionals and participating mental and behavioral health clinicians and is intended to improve cooperation and integration of services, leading to better, more patient-centered treatment.

"CDPHP understands its marketplace better than a national company," said John D. Bennett, MD, president and CEO, CDPHP. "Bringing behavioral health services in-house will help us control rising costs, medically manage care for our members, and administer benefits expanded by new mental health parity legislation."

The behavioral health team will be led by Robert Holtz, MA, MBA, LMHC, as vice president, behavioral health services. Kelly J. Clark, MD, MBA, will serve as medical director, behavioral health.

Holtz joined CDPHP earlier this year. He oversees, modifies, and administers behavioral health operations at CDPHP. Prior to joining CDPHP, he served as behavioral health director, MVP Healthcare. Holtz also held behavioral health management positions for Conifer Park, Kaiser Permanente, and Community Health Plan (CHP).

Holtz holds a master’s in business administration from the State University of New York at Albany; a master’s in psychology from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh; and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University College of Liberal Arts. Holtz is licensed as a NYS mental health counselor and certified addiction specialist.

Board-certified in both psychiatry and addiction medicine, Dr. Clark joined CDPHP in October, bringing vast clinical, consulting, and medico-legal expertise to her post.

Dr. Clark has served extensively in private practice in emergency, acute, sub-acute, and chronic institutions; community, county, state, federal sites; and voluntary, involuntary and penal settings. She also consulted in a variety of capacities, including as a national speaker for Forest Laboratories; in expert review for utilization, disability, worker’s compensation, and pharmacy benefit management organizations; and as an independent psychiatric expert to the courts in Kentucky and Rhode Island.

Dr. Clark earned an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, Durham, NC; a medical degree from University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI; and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Coe College, Cedar Rapids, IA. She completed a residency in psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin. With a strong interest in education, Dr Clark was on the faculty of the University of Massachusetts Medical School for eight years, training students and resident physicians. Dr. Clark is a member of the American College of Physician Executives, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Additionally, Carl Roberts-Alexandrov joined CDPHP in August 2009 and serves as operational manager, behavioral health. He is responsible for the day-to-day utilization management of behavioral health benefits, quality improvement initiatives, and case management and network development, as well as the supervision of 16 new behavioral health team members.

Previously, Roberts-Alexandrov served as a clinical liaison for United Behavioral Health. He holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and a Master of Social Work degree from SUNY Albany.

In addition to the three aforementioned leadership roles, the dedicated unit brings 16 new behavioral health positions— clinicians, social workers and registered nurse—to the health plan including:
Five clinical intake specialists  Five behavioral health care coordinators  Five complex case managers  One behavioral health specialist "CDPHP views mental health as an integral component of our members' overall health," said Dr. Bennett. "The addition of this new department will help us foster greater collaboration and care coordination, improve data control, and protect the quality of mental health benefits CDPHP offers to its membership."

Skoopz® Celebrates Homecoming

Skoopz® Celebrates Homecoming

The 100-Percent, All-Natural Sugar Substitute Now Available in the Southeast’s Largest Natural Food and Organic Market -- Atlanta’s Natural Foods Warehouse

Atlanta (Vocus) October 22, 2010

While it is logical to assume a company would launch its inaugural product in its hometown, MySkoopz, Inc. took a different path. This spring, the company launched its 100-percent, all-natural, great-tasting sweetener -- skoopz® -- in Springdale, AR. In August, skoopz rolled out in retail outlets throughout Texas and Shreveport, LA. This month skoopz arrives in its hometown of Atlanta, appearing on shelves at the following Natural Foods Warehouse locations: 6000 Medlock Bridge Parkway in Johns Creek and 10591 Old Alabama Connector Rd in Alpharetta. skoopz also will be carried in two new Natural Foods Warehouse locations opening this winter: 12315 Crabapple Rd in Alpharetta (opening mid-November) and 670 N. Main Street in Alpharetta (opening in late December).

''Our original plan was to roll out in Atlanta as a first stop, but opportunity knocked first elsewhere and we went with it,'' said James Highsmith, CEO of MySkoopz. ''We’re thrilled to be able to offer skoopz to our hometown shoppers, especially with a retailer like Natural Foods Warehouse. They are the largest natural food market in the Southeast, and no one knows natural foods like they do. We’re honored that they are including skoopz among the products they carry.''

Skoopz is made from a proprietary blend of all-natural ingredients, providing consumers with a sugar substitute that offers a sweet taste, has no calories and is diabetic friendly.

“Consumers are looking for natural, healthy options for themselves and their families. It’s the reason why our business is growing, and why we are excited to see a quality product like skoopz arrive on our shelves. skoopz provides our customers with a healthy, great-tasting, 100-percent all-natural sweetener that is competitively priced,” added Amy Head, co-owner of Natural Foods Warehouse.

Skoopz is currently available in fifty and 100-count single-pack boxes. For consumers who live in areas where skoopz is not yet available in a retail outlet, skoopz can be purchased online at http://www. skoopznatural. com].

About skoopz®

Skoopz® is the all-natural, economically-priced sugar substitute that offers consumers satisfaction without compromise. skoopz is made from a proprietary blend of all-natural ingredients, making it a perfect option for consumers seeking a no-calorie, chemical-free alternative to sugar. skoopz is owned by Atlanta-based MySkoopz, Inc., a company committed to producing and distributing high-quality, all-natural products which are part of a healthy diet. Three-time Cancer Battler Needs Help to Get Urgent Bone Marrow Transplant

Three-time Cancer Battler Needs Help to Get Urgent Bone Marrow Transplant

A young mother, with a five year old daughter, is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant, but although she has insurance, she still needs to pay $80,000 as her co-payment. After fighting cancer for ten years, her family has no more resources. Donations are being frantically solicited to save Rachel Hunnicutt-Knight's life.

Southlake, TX (PRWEB) August 5, 2010

When she was fourteen, Rachel Hunnicutt-Knight’s doctor diagnosed her with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, instead of the strep throat she thought she had. Hours later, a biopsy was performed, and the same day, her chemotherapy treatment was begun.

That night, surrounded by friends and family, Rachel’s mom, Sandy, tried to explain it to her. “Here’s the deal; you’re going to get sick, and you’re going to lose your hair, but from everything I’ve read so far, this is a do-able deal…” Sandy told her.

Rachel balanced her school, her job at a bank, and her cancer treatments, until she graduated from Keller High School, with honors in 2004. That was just days after being given a clean bill of health by her doctor. She moved on with her life, stronger than ever.

-Seven Years Later

Rachel is still working at the bank, but is now married, with a beautiful daughter, Alexis. Then, after seven years of remission, she suffered a relapse. She’s undergone two years of treatment since then, but tests indicate that the cancer has spread to her bone marrow. The doctors say her only option now is a bone marrow transplant.

-The Cost of Staying Alive… even WITH Insurance

Since Rachel is employed, and has insurance, there should be no problem, right? Not entirely true, as her co-payment for the operation, scheduled for August of 2010, will be around $80,000. It might be less, but will probably be more. That’s why friends of the family created a website, http://got-marrow. org (http://got-marrow. org), with a prominent Paypal button, and began a virtual blitzkrieg of every social media site they could find, to raise awareness… and funds.

The Hunnicutt family has always been generous with their friends in need. They’re not wealthy, and have pretty well exhausted their resources in this fight to save their daughter. Neither they nor their Rachel can afford the $80,000, so a fund has been set up to address these costs, and donations are being sought, from any and all that can help. On the website, donations to the Rachel Hunnicutt-Knight fund can be made by PayPal or credit card, and messages of encouragement and support can be left, as well.

Rachel's doctors have successfully located a number of donors that appear to be good matches, and DNA testing has been expedited. Her surgery has been tentatively scheduled for sometime in August, but before it can proceed, it's urgent that funds be raised for the co-pay. Donations are being solicited, to save this young mother's life, while there is still time.

Nobody can help everyone, but everyone can help somebody. Will you help?

At Home Rewards Provides Tips for Growing an Herb Garden at Home

At Home Rewards Provides Tips for Growing an Herb Garden at Home

AP9*AtHomeRewards Provides Members with Significant Savings on Home Interests, Gardening Needs, and Much More

Norwalk, Conn. (PRWEB) March 10, 2008

As the organic food trend grows stronger worldwide, more people have decided to grow their own produce at home. Edible flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs are among the favorites. At Home Rewards (SM) (http://ap9consumergateway. typepad. com/ap9_articles/ap9_athomerewards/index. html), a leading discount membership program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC (http://www. adaptivemarketing. com/ap9/at-home-rewards. asp), reports that although herb gardening is less complicated than flower or vegetable gardening, there's still a learning curve.

Herb gardening is a good way for non-experts to start a garden, whether in a yard or in pots placed on a sunny windowsill. Selecting which herbs to grow is the first step, one that should be taken seriously. The garden should be composed by easy-to-grow herbs that can also serve as a complement for the dishes prepared at home. Pizza lovers will pick basil, parsley is a favorite of Italian dishes fans, and those who go for Mexican or Indian cuisine will choose cilantro first and foremost.

Once the herb choices are made, what's next? AtHomeRewards (http://www. athomerewards-program. com) has put together a simple list of tips to have in mind before and during the growing process at home:

-- The beginning. Visit the local garden store or the closest nursery to find seedlings or seeds of the herbs you've chosen. Try your luck with two or three different kinds.

-- Initial treatment. Soak seeds in water prior to planting them in the soil. Another trick is to place them between wet paper towels and into plastic bags for at least four hours.

-- Well-grounded. Make sure to get the best potting soil, perlite and peat moss. A good potting mix is one that allows for fast draining, because all herbs need a well-drained soil.

-- A place to grow. Purchase clay or plastic window boxes or pots, and look around the house for containers you can recycle as pots. Clay pots are recommended because they provide better air circulation for the roots. Those who might forget to water the herbs frequently should pick plastic, metal or ceramic containers.

-- Let it drain. As important as the material of the pot is the drainage it provides. Herbs need a lot of water and a drainage hole for the moisture to escape as needed.

-- Enough sunlight. Indoor herbs need five to six hours of direct sun each day. Some expert gardeners recommend placing the pots on top of the refrigerator while the seeds sprout, then moving them to a sunnier spot once they have germinated.

-- Ideal pH. Measuring the pH of an herb garden sounds more complicated than it is. Hardware stores carry easy-to-use pH and fertility testing kits for beginners and experts. 6.5 is the ideal pH of the soil, which is slightly acidic.

-- Dry and use. The leaves have the best flavor, so it's recommended to remove them from the stem before drying. This will avoid later contamination of the flavor and aroma. Rinse them in cold water, and let them air-dry in a cool spot (two weeks for drier climates, three to four for humid areas).

Herbs make a healthy and flavorful addition to cooking and also serve medicinal and aromatherapy purposes, concludes At Home Rewards.

Laurie Caple BritainÂ’s longest serving and often controversial Ambulance Chief publishes his Memoirs

Laurie Caple BritainÂ’s longest serving and often controversial Ambulance Chief publishes his Memoirs

Laurie Caple who retired from Britain’s National Health Service in 1999 after a thirty seven year career, twenty nine of which were as a Chief Officer of various Ambulance Services in England, has published his autobiography titled “From Ambulances to Almonds”.

(PRWEB) October 8, 2004

As BritainÂ’s youngest ever Chief Ambulance Officer when first appointed in 1970, he went on to manage several ambulance services, frequently at the leading edge of professional development in all areas of pre-hospital emergency care, before retiring in 1999 from the Northumbria Ambulance Service in the North East of England as the UKÂ’s longest serving Chief Officer of any of the primary emergency services.

His book offers a unique personal insight into the development of UK ambulance services from someone who was deeply involved, often controversially, in effecting a cultural change from a basic people carrying first aid transport service to todayÂ’s modern paramedic life support ambulance service now fully integrated into the modern NHS.

It is probably the first insider account providing a professional historical record of the Ambulance Service during the latter half of the 20th Century and Laurie draws on his own unique management style and experiences, and shares some hitherto unknown “behind the scenes” facts with the reader, who gains a fascinating perspective on the trials and tribulations behind some of the decisions which led to today’s modern paramedical ambulance service.

Of particular interest to the existing or aspiring health service professional, the book is an indispensable reference volume revealing the management techniques needed to operate at CEO level in a public environment - often politically charged and controversial and is a must for aspiring corporate managers.

Laurie Caple now lives in Spain in Alicante where he cultivates his orchard of almonds.
