The Adventus Group (http://www. adventusgroup. com), a world leader in the soil, sediment and groundwater bioremediation industry, once again joined the University of Massachusetts Amherst to recognize emerging environmental scientists during the 25th Annual International Conference on Soils, Sediments and Water held here recently. Three students were awarded $1,000 for the best overall scientific presentations by the Northeast Regional Environment Public Health Center and The School of Public Health.

This year’s judging committee consisted of Scott R. Blaha (General Electric), Matthew Burns (WSP Environment & Energy), David Ludwig (ARCADIS), Dawn Oliveira (EFI Global, Inc.), Frank Peduto (Spectra Environmental Group), Paul Rakowski (Booz, Allen, Hamilton), Richard Raymond (Terra Systems), Christopher Teaf (Florida State University), Stephen P. “For the sixth consecutive year now, Adventus has recognized the value of fostering student involvement in industry events such as this conference,” said Dr. Paul Kostecki, Senior Advisor, Clean Energy China Initiative – Office of the President at University of Massachusetts Amherst. “It is always encouraging to work with far-sighted firms that give back to the industry. This annual Student Award program is a superb way to bring the state-of-the-art information presented here to the next generation of scientists.”

“These impressive young environmentalists all displayed superb thought leadership and presentation skills. Selecting the winning themes was extremely difficult, although the industry will surely be hearing more from these students in years ahead,” said John Valkenburg of Adventus. “As our company continues to develop the next generation of remediation biotechnologies, it is our privilege to showcase the important role partnerships with the academic community and private sector organizations can play. A new feature called the Winner’s Circle has been added to our website, so the wider industry can enjoy an archived copy of their presentations”. Wholesome Mini-Muffins for Kids Now Available in all Food Emporiums

Nyack, NY (PRWEB) June 24, 2004

Monkey Muffins Inc., the makers of all natural mini-muffins for kids, announced today that their products are now available in all Food Emporium stores throughout the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT).

Monkey Muffins® are wholesome snacks made for little hands that contain no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. The first ingredient in each variety (banana, chocolate chip, and pumpkin) is either a fruit or a vegetable—no doubt why Monkey Muffins® have become so popular with health-conscious parents looking for wholesome lunchbox alternatives.

“We get loads of email from moms who tell us that this is the only way they can get their kids to eat vegetables,” says Lisa Coates, company co-founder. While not claiming to be a substitute for the recommended five servings per day of fruits and vegetables, the company has successfully produced a kid-friendly alternative to mass-produced snack foods.

The availability of Monkey Muffins® at all Food Emporium stores marks the Nyack, NY based company’s entry to the New York City market. “We’re very happy with our arrangement with The Food Emporium,” said Coates. "They share the same commitment to providing high quality foods that we do, which makes us a perfect fit."

The Food Emporium has become synonymous with specialty gourmet and is a destination for natural foods in the New York marketplace. “Our brand recognition is of great tastes with unique offerings, which includes an emphasis on healthier alternatives. I remain aware that increasingly, shopping decisions are made with consideration to wholesome ingredients," says Leo Beggen, The Food Emporium Director of Deli and Bakery.

New Range of Bespoke Designer Wallpaper Products are Launched by Concept Coverings

New Range of Bespoke Designer Wallpaper Products are Launched by Concept Coverings

Concept Coverings Ltd (UK) have just released a new range of designer wallpaper products. Following the success of the last collection launched in 2006, the new designs are aimed at a younger age group.

Darwen, Lancashire (PRWEB) August 10, 2007

Following months of hard work, Concept Coverings Ltd is thrilled that finally the new range of wallpapers that have been painful to finalise are ready for release. Wallpaper has been around for hundreds of years, and yet people claim that there has been very little advancement in wallpaper. Group Managing Director Conrad McKee says to these critics, "Wallpaper is fighting back and at Concept Coverings we are seeing a big trend in customers coming back to wallpaper as feature walls and one wall concepts."

The online designs are a good mix of contemporary and traditional designs with colours that can be changed to match any room scheme.

The company was formed in 2005 seeing a hole in the decorative market for this type of digitally printed product. Since then many successful wallpaper collections have been released. The latest collections are available to view online as well as customers being able to upload their own photos and have them made into a wallpaper.

Today wallpaper is classified based on the commercial application, and is divided into two categories: commercial and home use wallpaper

About our wallpapers

Commercial Wallpaper
Commercial wallpaper is usually printed on thicker, and more resistant paper. Since commercial wallpaper (as the name suggests) is used in retail outlets, hotels, discos, etc. The wallpaper has certain health and safety specifications that it must meet like being fire resistant, etc. Apart from the health and safety requirements, there are additional requirements like being easy to clean, dust and dirt resistant, etc. What has made commercial wallpaper making an entirely different section, is that more often than not commercial wallpaper involves customization like having a company logo printed or having custom designs, this is where having a digitally printed wallpaper comes in handy, as the imagery that is produced using digitally printed wallpaper is far superior when compared to wallpaper printed using traditional methods.

Wallpaper for home use
The earliest and oldest application of wallpaper is for home use, wallpaper for home use is by no way inferior to commercial wallpaper, as it too has to meet strict quality control guidelines, however the added advantage that wallpaper for home use has is that, it is easier to apply when compared to commercial wallpaper, and in addition you can have multiple wallpaper in the same home (compare this to commercial establishments where the wallpaper is uniform throughout). Just like commercial wallpaper, digitally printed wallpaper is available for home users also, the biggest benefactors of digitally printed wall paper have been home owners, who can now either get custom wallpaper with a particular design built, or can choose to adorn their home walls with some of the greatest works of art ever made. The choices that wallpaper today has bought to home owners is just mind boggling, and all it takes to get customized wallpaper made is a photograph or image of your design.

Extinguishing Tobacco Use in African American Communities

Extinguishing Tobacco Use in African American Communities

Series examines African Americans relationship with tobacco

OAKLAND, CA (PRWEB) February 22, 2004

Without the free labor of black men, women, and children who were enslaved to the plantations of the nationÂ’s tobacco crops of the early 1800s, the Virginia colony and plantation owners themselves, would not have enjoyed financial freedom and success, according to the African American Tobacco Education Network (AATEN). And yet, with more than 200 years after slavery, African AmericanÂ’s and the tobacco industry maintain a unique relationship today whereby African Americans use tobacco and where more than 75 percent of African American smokers prefer menthol cigarettes, which allow them to inhale the harmful chemicals more deeply and retain them in their lungs for a longer period of time. Moreover, the tobacco industry has been highly influential in the African American community for decades, despite the fact that African Americans bear the greatest burden from tobacco-related diseases.

“I don’t know the statistics for African American smokers in Oakland and the surrounding areas, “said Nadine Scott, a community leader and executive director of Ariel Outreach Mission selected by AATEN to help educate Oakland residents about the enormous hazards of first and second-hand smoke, “however, what we do know is that African Americans in this community continue to be plagued by and succumbed to smoke related illnesses, Scott said. “While we may not be able to immediately control print and billboard advertisements targeted to our communities, we can help control how we react to them, “she added.

In its continuous mission to engage African Americans and African Immigrants in campaigns that reduce the use of tobacco products and exposure to secondhand smoke, the AATEN has developed a series of educational articles this in honor of Black History Month. The articles will discuss tobacco and its impact on African Americans through the generations.

This series will appear each week during the month of February to look at the relationship between tobacco and African Americans and describe how the tobacco industry targets African Americans with advertising, promotion and sponsorship. AATEN hopes to counter these tactics by increasing awareness of the issues and the disproportionately adverse health consequences of tobacco use in the African American community.

The four-article series will supply historical information on tobacco and slavery, discuss the effects of tobacco use on African Americans, expose how the tobacco industry tries to exert influence in the African American community today and suggest what you can do to counter "Big Tobacco" in your community.

The African American Tobacco Education Network is a statewide project funded through the Tobacco Control Section of the State Department of Health Services. Administered by the California Black Health Network, AATEN conducts workshops, seminars and conferences on tobacco control and offers information on the effect of tobacco use on African Americans.

Dallas Fort-Worth Weight Loss Surgeon Dr. David Kim Teams Up With Healthcare Products Leader Covidien

Dallas Fort-Worth Weight Loss Surgeon Dr. David Kim Teams Up With Healthcare Products Leader Covidien

Recently snatching headlines for his weight-loss partnership with former Super Bowl Champion and Dallas Cowboy Nate Newton, Dallas bariatric surgeon Dr. David Kim has forged another relationship, acting as proctor and instructing several other bariatric surgeons in association with Covidien in a joint venture focused on innovation and excellence in bariatric surgery in Dallas, TX and around the country.

Colleyville, TX (Vocus) September 28, 2010

Dr. David Kim has teamed up with healthcare products leader, Covidien, in an effort to advance the field of weight loss surgery in Dallas (http://www. drdkim. net/), across the Midwest, and throughout the country. Dr. Kim recently became a proctor for Covidien, and traveled to United Hospital in Wichita Falls, TX to instruct two other surgeons on the vertical sleeve gastrectomy.

The vertical sleeve gastrectomy (http://www. drdkim. net/html/gastric-sleeve-resection-dallas-texas. html), also known as the laparoscopic gastric sleeve resection, is the same procedure Dr. Kim performed for Nate Newton, which has been a tremendous success, leading to a 130 pound weight loss for Mr. Newton. Like other bariatric surgery procedures such as laparoscopic gastric bypass and the LAP-BAND System in Dallas (http://www. drdkim. net/html/lap-band-surgery-advantages-dallas-texas. html), Dr. Kim says the vertical sleeve gastrectomy is providing patients that may not be eligible for other weight loss surgeries another option in the fight against obesity.

Before the vertical sleeve gastrectomy was first introduced to the U. S. in 2007, it was part of an older operation known as the biliopancreatic diversion. With the updated, innovative approach to weight loss surgeries, the vertical sleeve gastrectomy ultimately removes 70% of the stomach to reduce the amount of food the patient can consume. Since it was first introduced, Dr. Kim has gained extensive experience with the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, and as the procedure increases in popularity—due in part to the high profile partnership with Nate Newton—Dr. Kim remains dedicated to improving and advancing the field of bariatric surgery, and the vertical sleeve gastrectomy, through further relationships like the one formed with Covidien.

About Dr. Kim

David D. Kim, M. D. earned his medical degree at the College of Medicine at Northeastern Ohio Universities. He completed his general surgery residency at the School of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, where he also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Kim received a Fellowship for Peripheral Vascular Surgery at Park Medical Center, and another for Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass at the Medical College of Virginia. He is a member and fellow of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the American College of Surgeons, and is a member of the American Society of General Surgeons, Southeastern Surgical Congress, and the Tarrant County Medical Society.

Dr. David D. Kim has two locations, the first of which is the Live Life Again Center for Bariatric Surgery, and is located at 35 Veranda Lane Ste. 100 Colleyville, TX 76034; the second location, the Advanced Bariatric Center of Dallas, is located at 11990 North Central Expressway in Dallas, TX 75243. He can be reached at http://www. mylapbanddallas. com/ (http://www. mylapbanddallas. com/) or http://www. drdkim. net/index. html (http://www. drdkim. net/index. html) - (214) 614-7036 for his Dallas patients and (817) 717-7447 for his Fort Worth patients.

"STOP THE SHOT" Litigation Filed NY Health Care Workers Seek Protection from DC Federal Court

"STOP THE SHOT" Litigation Filed NY Health Care Workers Seek Protection from DC Federal Court

Natural Solutions Foundation joins New York health care workers facing mandatory flu shots and health freedom advocates to challenge FDA's approval of licenses for 4 "Swine Flu" 2009-H1N1-A vaccines allegedly without following its own agency rules and Federal statutes. The Case has been filed in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and bears Docket No. 1:09-cv-01924.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 12, 2009

Although the government has begun delivery this week of the novel "Swine Flu" 2009-H1N1-A live virus nasal mist vaccine to 90,000 government-approved locations nationwide, six New Yorkers and several NonGovernmental Organizations (NGOs) involved in health freedom civil rights expressive association, filed for an Emergency Injunction in the US District Court for the District of Columbia to prevent the distribution of what they believe are illegal, unnecessary and dangerous vaccines.

The case of Null, Laibow et al. v FDA et al. [Docket No. 1:09-cv-01924] challenges the legality of the September 15th licensing of four vaccines prior to any safety testing for what the government calls a "novel flu virus with pandemic potential." The complaint alleges that the government failed to follow its own rules and applicable legislation in rushing the vaccine approvals in the absence of any of the requisite minimum scientifically sound and appropriate testing for both safety and effectiveness, as in the opinion of the Plaintiffs, required by law since 1964.

Link to Complaint: healthfreedomusa. org/?page_id=3619

Link to Brief: healthfreedomusa. org/?page_id=3624

Link to Action eAlert: healthfreedomusa. org/?p=3635

The New Yorkers are all health care workers who are therefore subject to that State's new legal mandate (promulgated August 13, 2009) requiring that nearly all of the State's half million health care workers receive all Federally recommended flu vaccines or lose their jobs. This requirement puts the health care workers in significant jeopardy since, Plaintiffs allege, these newly approved vaccines have never been tested for either safety or efficacy and may carry major risks.

The lawsuit, announced at a demonstration by the health care workers last week at the State Capitol in Albany on September 29, 2009, is expected to be just one of the suits filed challenging various government "emergency" actions for a flu that has proven (during the just concluded Southern Hemisphere flu season) to be neither pandemic nor virulent despite dire predictions to the contrary and despite a Health Emergency declared by the CDC on April 25, 2009, 11 days after the first alleged death from Swine Flu on April 14, 2009 and a Level 6 Pandemic declaration by the World Health Organization followed on June 11, 2009 (which was only possible since W. H.O. downgraded the definition of a "Level 6 Pandemic").

The Plaintiffs include health care professionals such as Dr. Gary Null, PhD, a well-known New York nutritionist, Rima E. Laibow, MD, a New York licensed physician who is Medical Director and a Trustee of the Natural Solutions Foundation, Dr. Tedd Koren DC, head of Foundation for Health Choice and four other health care workers covered by the mandate, including a Registered Nurse who has had prior adverse reactions to flu vaccines; a pregnant Nurse's Aide, a health care student who has been told that she cannot see the patients whom she must see in order to finish her training, and a woman who works in the billing department of a hospital. All have been denied exemptions and told they will lose their positions under the new mandate if they are not vaccinated with all flu vaccines, including the new "Swine Flu" vaccine.

The Complaint alleges that the FDA erred in determining that safety testing was not needed because the 2009-H1N1-A vaccines are a mere "change of strain" not requiring safety testing. The Plaintiffs claim there is no significant scientific agreement that supports the government's actions. The experts presented by the Plaintiffs include Sarah Schon MD, a Board Certified Immunologist and Paul G. King PhD, a noted analytical chemist with decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Plaintiffs further allege that the Live Attenuated Influenza Virus (LAIV) nasal mist vaccine could trigger the very pandemic the government claims people should fear, calling the decision to allow a LAIV vaccine using a WHO and CDC declared "novel pandemic virus" an "arbitrary and capricious decision without any basis in the scientific record."

Citing HHS Secretary Sebelius's September 15th testimony before a Congressional committee when she announced the vaccine licensing, that even the FDA's own scientists would not "sign-off" on the use of the most toxic vaccine ingredients (known as "oil in water adjuvants") the Plaintiffs allege the government has a plan to nonetheless approve these substances, never before approved for drug use in the United States, under an "Emergency Use Authorization" (EUA) permitted by the 2005 Project Bioshield Act. On July 13, 2009, according to a press release on the www. HHS. gov web site, the government purchased nearly a half billion dollar's worth ($485 Million USD) of the deadly adjuvnt squalene, an oil in water adjuvant, blamed by many nongovernmental physicians as a "Gulf War Syndrome" causative agent in more than 25% of the soldiers who were subjected to an experimental anthrax vaccine, Vaccine A, containing squalene. Vaccine A was later authorized under an EUA propmpting a Court ruling that makes its use legal only in voluntary situations. The government's stockpile is enough squalene to "stretch" the 167 million doses of "Swine Flu" vaccine the government has purchased to cover the entire American population since the purpose of an adjuvant is to increase immune response to the injected material. The FDA web site indicates that the adjuvanted vaccines will be provided only under an EUA which, Plaintiffs allege, will allow the agency to skirt "Good Manufacturing Practices" and, further, the controversial issue of whether squalene is too dangerous to be permitted under the laws as they are now written.

Secretary Sebelius further testified before Congress that a single company will be contracted by the government to deliver the vaccines to 90,000 locations around the country. The FDA site further indicates that the squalene will be mixed with the approved vaccines at those sites before administering the shots, without regard to normal pharmaceutical manufacturing requirements. The Plaintiffs claim that this will result in dangerously adulterated vaccines that may cause much more injury than the infamous 1976 "Swine Flu" vaccine program that killed hundreds and maimed thousands before it was stopped just ten weeks after it began, with nearly fifty million Americans having received that deadly shot or the dangerous squalene-adjuvanted Vaccine A which caused so many cataclysmic illnesses and deaths in Gulf War I military personnel. These shots, too, were both unnecessary and untested.

In their submitted Complaint, Brief and Certifications the Plaintiffs remind the Court that as early as 1905, even before the Federal authorities had the legal power to license vaccines, the Supreme Court stated, in Jacobson v Massachusetts (197 U. S. 11),

"We are not to be understood as holding... that the judiciary would not be competent to interfere and protect the health and life of the individual … 'All laws,' this court has said, 'should receive a sensible construction. General terms should be so limited in their application as not to lead to injustice, oppression or absurd consequence.' ..."

The lead attorney for the Plaintiffs, Leslie Fourton JD, of New York, is working with the respected Washington regulatory law firm of Swankin and Turner and a team of legal experts from around the country, including Larry Becraft JD, Alabama, Alan G. Phillips JD, North Carolina, and Ralph Fucetola JD, New Jersey.

Counsel Fourton stated,

"Without taking into account serious objections raised by many scientists, FDA approved four "Swine Flu" 2009-H1N1-A Vaccines without enough concern about any definitive safety testing and the quality thereof. The Secretary of Health and Human Services testified before Congress, announcing the approvals and a program to widely distribute the Vaccines which were purchased by the federal government. The administrative record appears to be defective in that the record as posted on the Agency web site does not include, for all the approved Vaccines, a drug package insert or label with an accurate list of ingredients. We don't know what was approved or how dangerous it may be. The Plaintiffs seek immediate relief."

The nongovernmental organizations who are supporting the New Yorkers threatened by the "Swine Flu" vaccine approvals, by joining in the legal action, are the National Solutions Foundation - http://www. HealthFreedomUSA. org (http://www. HealthFreedomUSA. org), whose President is Maj Gen Bert Stubblebine (US Army Ret.), Dr. Tedd Koren's Foundation for Health Choice http://www. Senator KerryÂ’s New Political Videogame

Senator KerryÂ’s New Political Videogame

Imagery Media has created a political stand game called “Citizen Kerry.” Here, you play as Senator John Kerry trying to collect falling icons to restore the past greatness of this country. The game takes place on the lawn of the White House and each icon represents a different issue, be it healthcare, the economy, defense, civil rights, the environment, or education.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 28, 2004

As you can see, the overwhelming polarization in political views have reached and encouraged creative minds to express their opinions. “We felt, as a young company, we had an opportunity as well as a responsibility to communicate our shared political beliefs. We've certainly made a game that endorses one candidate but we've tried to communicate our message with respect and a little humor, rather than throwing punches at the Bush campaign” expressed David Pietrandrea, the Art Director.

This game was created in response to the more negative and deceptive media produced during the run up to the election. Imagery Media has stated itself as a game-maker with purpose. (Imagerymedia. com specializes in video games and web training) The game also reflects the energy created by the political involvement weÂ’ve seen by the youth of this country. We all agree that it is compelling to see people discussing the issues and standing up for their personal beliefs. Imagery Media in its own creative way wants to contribute to an edifying dialogue.

Players can expect a fun interactive experience, as well as a simple and addictive game. Before any political point, Imagery Media has done well by creating a good game, one with great graphics and game-play log in at http://www. imagerymedia. com/kerrygame/ (http://www. imagerymedia. com/kerrygame/)

What Do People Want Online? It's Not What You Think It Is

What Do People Want Online? It's Not What You Think It Is

Guerrillas think of ways to market by putting the prospect in control.

(PRWEB) March 13, 2005

bWhat people want online is a question guerrillas ask themselves a lot. Whether it's for fun or work or something else, understanding a consumer's motives once he or she logs on is a necessity. But the experts don't seem to agree on what people want.

Some folks see the web as a vast, new field for advertising messages, assuming that while people may want to do something else, if we can entice them with flash, we can sort of trick them into paying attention to our products and services.

Guess what. That's not gonna happen.

Other folks seem to subscribe to the notion that people online are looking for entertainment on the Internet, and therefore they construct messages aimed at persuading while playing. And, in other cases, the time-honored direct-response model wins out: Grab people when you can, get 'em to take an action, and then market, market, market. The answer may be that the consumer has and wants a lot more control than we give him/her credit for.

Today, webmeisters are in control. Sort of. In a perfect cyberworld, people will be in control. Sort of.

Two recent studies shed light upon this dilemma. One was conducted by Zatso. The other was conducted by the Pew Research Center. Zatso and Pew. (Those guys didn't spend much time reading "how-to-name-your-company" books, I guess.) Still, both of their studies illuminated the answer as to what people want to do online.

The answer, as most answers, is very utilitarian: People want to accomplish something online. They're not aimless surfers hoping to discover a cybertreasure. Instead, the average Net user turns out to be a goal-oriented person interested in finding information and communicating with others -- in doing something he or she set out to do.

Look at the Zatso study. "A View of the 21st Century News Consumer" looked at people's news reading habits on the web. It revealed that reading and getting news was the most popular online activity after email. The guerrilla thinks, "That means email is number one. How might I capitalize on that?"

One out of three respondents reported that they read news online every day, with their interests expanding geographically -- local news was of the most interest, U. S. news the least.

Personalization was seen as a benefit, too. Seventy-five percent of respondents said that they wanted news on demand and nearly two out of three wanted personalized news. The subjects surveyed liked the idea that they, not some media outlet, controlled the news they saw. They feel they're better equipped to select what they want to see than a professional editor. Again, control seems to be the issue. Again, guerrillas think of ways to market by putting the prospect in control.

The Pew Research Center study revealed that regular net users were more connected with their friends and family than those who didn't use the Internet on a regular basis.

Almost two-thirds of the 3,500 respondents said they felt that email brought them closer to family and friends -- significant when combined with the fact that 91% of them used email on a regular basis. That's 91%. It took VCRs 25 years to achieve such market penetration.

What did people in this study seem to be doing online when they weren't doing email? Half were going online regularly to

Purchase products and services, and nearly 75 percent were going online to search for information about their hobbies or purchases they were planning to make. Sixty-four percent of respondents visited travel sites, and 62 percent visited

Weather-related sites. Over half did educational research, and 54 percent were hunting for data about health and medicine.

A surprising 47 percent regularly visited government web sites, and 38 percent researched job opportunities. Instant messaging was used by 45 percent of these users, and a third of them played games online. Even with all the hype in the media, only 12 percent said they traded stocks online.

What does this mean to e-marketers? It means that if you're constructing a site for goal-oriented consumers, you'd better make sure you can help facilitate their seeking. Rather than focus on entertainment, flash, and useless splash screens, the most effective sites are those that help people get the information they want when they need it. Straightforward data, information that invites comparison, and straight talk are going to win the day.

A client buddy of mine showed me his website which heralds his retail location and attempts to sell nothing online. He said it has been the biggest moneymaker in the history of his 35-year-old company. Then he apologized for its lack of glitter and special effects. He asked how his site could be so successful even though it lacked anything to add razzmatazz and dipsydazzle.

Now, you know the answer.

Jay Conrad Levinson is probably the most respected marketer in the world. He is the inventor of "Guerrilla Marketing" and is responsible for some of the most outrageous marketing campaigns in history -- including the "Marlboro Man" -- the most successful ad campaign in history. In his latest book, "Put Your Internet Marketing on Steroids" Jay reveals how you can use marketing steroids legally to make your business insanely profitable.

MetroShed Promotes "Green Living"

MetroShed Promotes "Green Living"

MetroShed is proud to be 'eco-friendly' and a leader of building 'green' prefabricated structures promoting a 'green' lifestyle.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 31, 2007

MetroShed is proud to be a leader in pre-fab, and continuing to be a leader in 'green' building'- building for the future. What is 'green building'? Green building, sometimes called 'sustainable building' or 'environmental building', is building more efficiently for the benefit of the environment, individual and community through better design, construction, operation, maintenance and waste removal.

If you're using the MetroShed as a workspace or home office here's how you can help continue to be 'green' and lay the foundation for a greener office and environment:

1) Work from home…to reduce transport pollution you can hold conference calls, attend video meetings and take online courses. We like to refer to this as the 30-second commute - from the main residence to the MetroShed in the garden!

2) Use energy-saving computer settings, and make sure you turn them off (standby continues to draw power from the grid).

3) Turn off lights when the space is not being used. The standard MetroShed design features large sliding glass doors to let natural light in throughout the working day.

4) If you have a desk lamp, invest in the LED desk lamps that use a small amount of electric versus standard light bulbs.

5) Do as much as you can via e-mail and phone to reduce paper usage, look at documents on your computer and edit documents at the computer, rather than printing out.

6) If you have to use paper, try to use both sides and make sure it's recycled.

7) Make sure the bathroom is stocked with toilet tissue made from recycled paper.

8) You are what you wear…to be really green, buy clothes made with recycled fibers.

9) Buying in bulk helps save not only time but also transport costs and pollution.

10) Good air is vital. Use low-VOC paints (volatile organic compounds have been linked to birth defects and cancer) for the interior of the MetroShed and greener furniture and carpeting are now readily available from some of the biggest manufacturers like Herman Miller.

11) Work out your lunch in advance. Try to take your lunch with you to work and use reusable utensils.

12) Bank and pay bills online. It's become an easy way to avoid paper usage, save money on postage and be efficient.

13) If you have any appliances in your MetroShed workspace, turn off non-essential consumer electronics when not in use and make sure appliances carry an Energy Star rating.

The buildings in which we live, work, and play have a great affect on our health and lifestyle. To lead a 'green' lifestyle, you can start by improving the quality of your life living, working, and playing in 'green' buildings such as the MetroShed. Everything that we do impacts the Earth and the environment and by taking 'green' steps, we are helping to improve the quality of life for all.

BusinessEdge SolutionsÂ’ Kate Townsend One of Two U. S. GAMP 4 Trainers

BusinessEdge SolutionsÂ’ Kate Townsend One of Two U. S. GAMP 4 Trainers

Kate Townsend has recently been appointed as a GAMP® 4 instructor for the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), making her one of two such instructors in the United States and the fifth instructor worldwide to teach several hundred pharmaceutical professionals yearly about the GAMP 4 approach to the validation of automated systems.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ (PRWEB) March 27, 2005

It is no small honor to be one of five experts in the world who are able to train others in a given skill. Kate Townsend, a solutions partner with a focus on value-based compliance management at BusinessEdge Solutions Inc., an integrated, industry-focused consulting firm serving the life sciences industry, falls into this category. Ms. Townsend has recently been appointed as a GAMP® 4 instructor for the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), making her one of two such instructors in the United States and the fifth instructor worldwide to teach several hundred pharmaceutical professionals yearly about the GAMP 4 approach to the validation of automated systems. GAMP 4 is an acronym for Good Automated Manufacturing Practice.

In this role, Ms. Townsend trains pharmaceutical professionals in achieving validated and compliant computer systems that meet current health care regulatory standards, according to Donna Catalini, ISPEÂ’s director of training. ISPE is a global not-for profit membership organization that provides education, training and technical publications to more than 20,000 pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals worldwide.

Ms. Townsend was recommended for this position by Sion Wyn, director of Conformity, a pharmaceutical consultancy in the United Kingdom. “Kate is well-qualified for this role because of her subject matter expertise, her excellent training and presentation skills, and her commitment to best practices in regulatory compliance,” said Mr. Wyn, who also serves as technical advisor to ISPE, considered the foremost international source of guidance on computer systems validation and compliance.

GAMP was founded in 1991 by a core of pharmaceutical experts in the United Kingdom who were interested in evolving regulatory expectations for automated systems supporting manufacturing processes. GAMP quickly became influential throughout Europe as the quality of its work was recognized. In 1994, GAMP partnered with ISPE to publish the first GAMP guide and to run training seminars, and, in 2000, GAMP Americas was founded.

Ms. Townsend, a veteran instructor in computer systems validation, taught her first GAMP 4 training seminar earlier this month, instructing a group of professionals from major life sciences companies as well as life science vendors and consultants – all who received a certificate and the option for continuing education credits. She will teach a course on 21 CFR Part 11, the FDA regulation for electronic records and electronic signatures, and a more advanced course in computer systems validation later in the year.

Ms. Townsend, who has more than 18 years of experience supporting the life sciences industry, demonstrates an in-depth knowledge of FDA and international regulations. Her recent publications include “Understanding and Implementing A Risk-Based Approach to 21 CFR 11 Compliance,” which was published in the July 2003 issue of Pharmaceutical Technology.

A recognized industry leader in computer systems compliance, Ms. Townsend has presented to senior executives at many leading pharmaceutical companies on industry and regulatory trends in computer compliance, as well as presenting at industry meetings.

She spent her early career at Sterling Winthrop, an international pharmaceutical company. CoffeeBerry as a Skincare Ingredient: Rejuvenating Skin Care Technology

CoffeeBerry as a Skincare Ingredient: Rejuvenating Skin Care Technology

Skincare-News. com explains the new harvesting techniques that have made using coffeeberry in skincare products finally a reality.

Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) April 14, 2008

Although the beans from coffee bushes have long been harvested to provide us with an aromatic brew, the brilliant red fruit from these same bushes has always been too difficult to utilize. Until now. Skincare-News. com's latest article, "CoffeeBerry: A Wakeup for the Skin," explains how the nutrient-rich fruit or berries of the coffee plant can help to rejuvenate and refresh the skin. http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=533 (http://www. skincare-news. com/articles. php? ArtID=533)

What is it? Coffee berry is the rosy, red fruit of the coffee plant and is one of the most potent natural antioxidant available today. Harvested from coffee beans, coffee berries are rich with beneficial nutrients and antioxidants. Until recently, this part of the coffee plant has historically been discarded because the berries are so perishable and difficult to harvest. However, new harvesting techniques have enabled collection of this powerful and remarkable fruit, which prevents spoilage and preserves the antioxidant properties of the berry.

Coffee plants traditionally grow in dry, mountainous regions under intense, hot sunlight. In order to survive such arid conditions, the plant has adapted and protects itself by producing potent antioxidants. These antioxidants protect the plant from harsh sunlight and coffee berries have the highest percent of antioxidants of all parts of the plant. In fact, the US Department of Agriculture's Center for Aging at Tufts University has created a scoring system, known as Oxygen Radical Absorbent Capacity (ORAC), to evaluate the antioxidant strength of different plants and extracts. Remarkably, the ORAC has shown that coffee berries have the highest score, higher than even green tea, pomegranate extract, vitamin C or vitamin E.

You'll find it in: Coffee berries are rich in ferulic acid and polyphenols, antioxidants which are known to have many health benefits including neutralizing free radicals, reducing the incidence of coronary artery disease and possibly even certain cancers, and providing treatment benefits for Type 2 diabetes, depression and other diseases.

Nutritionally, once the coffee berry is harvested, it may then be turned into an extremely powerful powders or extracts. Just how potent? The concentration of antioxidants in coffee berries is so potent that just one gram of powdered coffee berry is equivalent to 33 grams of fresh blueberries -- known to be one of the most beneficial and formidable antioxidants for whole body health and wellness. The extract is equally as formidable. To get the same antioxidant benefit as coffee berry extract, it would take a lot of fruit: 625 grams of fresh blueberries or 974 grams of fresh strawberries or 1,230 grams of raspberries or 2,030 grams of grapes!

What to expect: The benefits of coffee berry are now being passed along to us in new ways. When added to skincare products like facial cleansers and moisturizers, their powerful anti-aging and rejuvenating benefits translate into smoother, more refined skin. Daily use of skincare products made with coffee berry can lead to healthier skin by preventing environmental damage from the sun, stress or pollution, as well as help reverse the visible signs of aging by diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Jacksonville, FL (PRWEB) August 5, 2004

Chris Fowler of Chris Fowler Racing is pleased to announce the signing of Chiron Corporation as an official associate sponsor. Chiron, headquartered in Emeryville, Calif., is a global biotechnology company that addresses human suffering worldwide with more than 50 diverse products to detect, prevent and treat disease.

Chiron BioPharmaceuticals, a business unit of Chiron, produces TOBI® tobramycin solution for inhalation, an inhaled antibiotic indicated for the management of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a type of bacteria frequently found in the lungs of a person with CF.

CF is a genetic disease that affects approximately 30,000 people in the United States. A defective gene causes the body to produce abnormally thick, sticky mucus that leads to chronic and life-threatening lung infections and impairs digestion.

Fowler was diagnosed with CF at six months old, and at age 29, is determined to become a major force in professional racing. He has used TOBI® to manage his CF since the age of 23.

"I am pleased to have ChironÂ’s support as a sponsor of Chris Fowler Racing. My dream is to race professionally, and Chiron is helping me achieve this dream. My health regimen that includes the use of TOBI® keeps me physically able to race and remain in good health until a cure for CF is discovered," Fowler said.

For the 2004 season, Fowler is targeting races in the second half of the 2004 American Speed Association (ASA) Series (www. asaracing. com). In its 36th year of operation, ASA is the premier stock car short track racing series in the United States.

FowlerÂ’s previous racing record includes 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishes in the 2002-03 Skip Barber Formula Dodge Southern Series. He has pledged to donate ten percent of his race winnings to the CF Foundation, headquartered in Bethesda, Md., to support research towards a cure for CF.

Fowler addressed attendees at the 2004 North American Commercial Meeting of Chiron BioPharmaceuticals held February 9-13, 2004, about living with CF and how TOBI® has improved his life. He will be featured in the 2005 TOBI calendar, which features CF patients from across the country.

Breakthrough Natural Skin Lightening and Wrinkle Reducing Cream Announced by Lycopene Skin Care

Breakthrough Natural Skin Lightening and Wrinkle Reducing Cream Announced by Lycopene Skin Care

Studies have shown that Dermopeel Cream, when used as directed, will be more effective than other skin lightening products, including hydroquinone based ones, in as little as 30 days. Dermopeel Cream contains botanicals that have a broad spectrum of activity making this breakthrough cream the only cosmetic product that addresses both skin health and skin beauty.

Ft Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) May 26, 2010

Gary I Weinberger, MD announced today the introduction into the US market of the latest generation of 100% natural wrinkle defying, skin lightening and brightening cream previously available only in Europe. Dermopeel Cream, created in Italy, is infused with pure botanicals formulated to address fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone variations, dry skin and dark spots due to normal aging, sun damage, and the daily exposure to environmental pollutants without using potentially harmful chemicals like hydroquinone. This cream is effective for all Fitzgerald skin types including Latino, Asian, and African - American skin.

Dr Weinberger stated, “For many years the only products available for skin lightening contained hydroquinone, a potentially harmful chemical banned throughout Europe and Asia, and recommended only for short-term use in the United States, usually not longer than three months. Botanically infused Dermopeel Cream addresses issues of skin discoloration and spots (hyperpigmentation), as well as the signs of skin aging by virtue of the fact that it contains high levels of nature’s most studied and effective anti-aging antioxidant Lycopene. In addition, Dermopeel contains the potent skin moisturizer beta - Glucan shown to increase skin hydration by reducing trans-epidermal water loss. Dr. Weinberger continued, “With many medical studies questioning the possible risks associated with the use of hydroquinone for skin lightening, having a safe and effective alternative that uses 100% natural botanicals like, Dermopeel Cream, empowers both our clients and physicians.”

Studies have shown that Dermopeel Cream, when used as directed, will be more effective than other skin lightening products, including hydroquinone based ones, in as little as 30 days. An additional advantage to Dermopeel Cream is that it can be used as long as necessary, whereas hydroquinone based products should not be used for more than 90 days. Dermopeel Cream contains botanicals that have a broad spectrum of activity making this breakthrough cream the only cosmetic product that addresses both skin health and skin beauty. The active botanicals in this very special European formulation are:
Azelaic Acid – Effectively blocks the production of abnormal pigment (hyperpigmentation) due to sun damage, exposure to environmental toxins, skin inflammations like acne and the result of the normal aging process. It is also effective in killing the bacteria responsible for adult acne, and may, according to some published studies, inhibit the formation of certain types of skin cancer.  Kojic Acid – Derived from oriental mushrooms, this botanical breaks the bonds holding dead skin cells together promoting their natural exfoliation resulting in a brighter and smoother skin. It also helps to even out skin tone irregularities by blocking the enzyme responsible for the abnormal production of skin pigment caused by excessive sun exposure, inflammation, acne, and the natural aging process.  Lycopene – Nature’s wonder botanical and one of the most written about and effective antioxidants. Lycopene is the pigment that gives tomatoes their red color. It protects the skin from aging due to the daily exposure to environmental toxins and the sun’s UVA/UVB rays. Often called “Nature’s Sunblock”, recent studies reveal that when lycopene is applied topically it may protect the skin from the risk of developing certain forms of skin cancer.  beta-Glucans – Derived from the cell wall of Asiatic mushrooms, they stimulate the production of Langherhans cells that makes up part of the skin’s immune system. They also help to reduce trans-epidermal water loss (tewl) thereby, promoting skin hydration which results in a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.  Dermopeel Cream also contains additional botanicals like Prunus amygdalus (sweet almond) oil, Mango Butter, Shea Butter and Glycyrrhiza glabra extract all important in improving general skin health and appearance.

Dermopeel Cream is available at medical offices, premium spas and skin care retailers. Interested retailers and distributors should contact the company’s office for further information. The product can also be purchased on-line through the company website.

Lycopene Skin Care, the world’s leader in Lycopene infused skin products, is located in Ft Lauderdale, FL. Dr Weinberger may be contacted through the company’s website – http://lycopeneskincare. com (http://lycopeneskincare. com) or at the company’s offices 305-310-6166. Further information on the benefits of using lycopene in skincare is available at http://lycopene-face-creams. blogspot. com/ (http://lycopene-face-creams. blogspot. com/).

Heart Birth Defect Awareness Event Offers A New Way to Express Love on Valentine's Day

Heart Birth Defect Awareness Event Offers A New Way to Express Love on Valentine's Day

Internationally, healthcare officials have proclaimed Valentine's Day, February 14th 2005 "A DAY FOR HEARTS : Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day" to raise public awareness about a common form of birth defect - Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) - http://www. CHDinfo. com/chdaware/

Chennai, India (PRWEB) February 12, 2005

Valentine's Day and hearts are eternally linked. A group of dedicated parents, patients, family members and friends, along with doctors, nurses and social workers are hoping an annual "heart" holiday will help them raise awareness about the problem. Jeanne Imperati of Connecticut, USA, herself the mother of a child with a congenital heart defect, in 1999 conceived the idea for an annual awareness day to reduce childhood deaths, and increase funding to support congenital heart defect related causes and cures.

The problem is global. An estimated 7 in every 1000 children born each year have a heart defect, making it the most common birth defect. "Few people realize more babies are born with congenital heart defects than with Spina Bifida, Down's syndrome and hearing loss" said Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian, consultant pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon in Chennai, India. "The unique circumstances in India often prevent recognition or timely treatment of this deadly condition. The reason is often lack of awareness and knowledge about the disease and the treatment options available, or lack of financial resources to support treatment" he added.

On his website, CHDinfo. com, Dr. Mani seeks to help solve the problem by offering easy-to-understand explanations about heart birth defects to parents and families. The six-year old service offers valuable information to thousands of CHD families each month.

"Valentine's Day and hearts are closely associated. Observing Valentine's Day (February 14th) as "A Day For Hearts: Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Day is the perfect way to express love in a different way - by drawing attention to CHDs." Says one mother of a child with CHD: "We all see these perfect decorative hearts at Valentine's Day. But for parents and families of kids with heart defects, these hearts mean so much more."

Local coordinators nationwide are planning activities in recognition of Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day 2005. For more information on what's happening visit http://www. CHDinfo. com/chdaware/ (http://www. CHDinfo. com/chdaware/)

Editors Note: Contact Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian at +91 442 6164046 to schedule interviews with heart defect patients, their families or medical professionals.
