NuSil Technology Expands Biocompatibility Testing of Pigmented Silicone Masterbatches

NuSil Technology (www. nusil. com), a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone-based materials for healthcare, aerospace, electronics and photonics, announces the extension of its biocompatibility support to include sensitization, genotoxicity, and pyrogenicity testing for its line of pigmented silicone masterbatches.

Carpinteria, California (PRWEB) October 7, 2008

NuSil Technology (www. nusil. com), a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone-based materials for healthcare, aerospace, electronics and photonics, announces the extension of its biocompatibility support to include sensitization, genotoxicity, and pyrogenicity testing for its line of pigmented silicone masterbatches.

In 2004, NuSil unveiled its line of pigmented silicone masterbatches co-developed with Gayson SDI. These masterbatches were specially designed for coloring liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and high-consistency rubbers (HCR) considered for both long-term implantable applications and short-term healthcare applications. Masterbatches intended for healthcare applications require regulatory support comparable to that provided for the elastomers into which they are incorporated. NuSil's color masterbatches meet Class VI and most ISO-10993 biological testing requirements. These products are supported by a comprehensive Master Access File (MAF) submitted to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"We understand materials in the healthcare industry, especially for medical devices that come in contact with the human body, need to be supported with extensive and precise biocompatibility testing," says Brian Nash, vice president of Marketing and Sales. "Based on the feedback from the industry, we have extended our biological testing support in a continued response to meet our customers' needs."

NuSil offers its line of pigmented silicone masterbatches in an array of colors that can be customized to meet the applications needs. A translucent color palette is also available for coloring LSRs used in the injection molding of silicone parts.

Rotary Blood Pump Shows Promise for Pediatric Patients

Ventricular assist devices (VADs), blood pumps used in heart failure situations, now have the potential for use in additional patient groups. Scientists and clinicians gathered at the 11th Congress of the International Society of Rotary Blood Pumps in Germany last year to discuss past lessons learned and future directions for this technology.

(PRWEB) January 14, 2005

Ventricular assist devices (VADs), blood pumps used in heart failure situations, now have the potential for use in additional patient groups. Scientists and clinicians gathered at the 11th Congress of the International Society of Rotary Blood Pumps in Germany last year to discuss past lessons learned and future directions for this technology.

Increasing experience, better understanding, and advances in VADs now suggest that its smaller size offers an advantage in permitting its use in women and smaller patients, including children with heart failure. These miniature devices, such as the MicroMed DeBakey Child VAD, have the potential to bring about similar results in children as they do currently in adults, sustaining heart function, until the heart can recover or until a heart transplant can be done. According to WebMD Health, as many as 50,000 people each year could benefit from a heart transplant, but only 2,000 to 2,500 hearts become available. As a result, tens of thousands of patients each year die while waiting for a heart transplant.

The development of VADs was derived from the first successful clinical use of the heart-lung machine. Researchers actively set out to discover other ways to support a failing heart to allow more time for recovery. The article relays how the efficacy and safety of VADs were demonstrated in numerous trials along the way. After 50 years of use, VADs are still considered to be in their infancy, but today, the technology has contributed to prolonging support for patients, and has helped to maintain healthy, functioning hearts.

“[This is] of significant value in improving the treatment of intractable heart failure,” states Dr. Michael DeBakey, author of the editorial in the journal, Artificial Organs. Researchers are hopeful for further advancement in the technology but stress the need for commitment from leaders in the field in addition to “adequate reimbursement.”

The Spa Association Launches the First International Licensing System called Spa Secure

The Spa Association Launches the First International Licensing System called Spa Secure

Consumers: Do you want to be directed to a spa dedicated to the highest level of health and safety standards? Do you want to be assured a spa provides first-class customer service and employees the most qualified personnel? Do you want a consumer tool to distinguish exceptional spas from the rest? The Spa Association has created a system to accomplish just that. It is called Spa Secure!

(PRWEB) July 17, 2004

Spa Secure is an international licensing system that gives consumers a tool to immediately recognize a spa’s dedication to the industry’s highest business principles, customer service operations and health and safety standards. Spa Secure’s logo and website will be used as the tool for consumers to identify industry leaders who meet the highest industry standards. It isn’t a matter of paying more to be “accredited.” It isn’t a matter of doing things right one day out of 365. Spa Secure is much more stringent than that. We have an active plan to mystery shop and audit those licensed with this program and also have a probationary set of procedures for those spas falling behind. Although a fee is paid for the service the licensure can be revoked if the spa licensed cannot meet our rigorous level of standards.

Spas: Do you work hard to meet the strictest health and safety standards? Do you continually improve your customer service abilities? Do you make sure only the most qualified professionals join your staff? Do you offer ongoing educational opportunities to your talented technicians? Does your spa want to be recognized for its hard work and dedication? If so, Spa Secure can facilitate your dreams.

To receive Spa Secure licensure, your spa must undergo an extensive examination process. Each spa will be required to pass a written examination as well as an on-site inspection with stringent standards and rigorous regulations. However, once your spa earns our logo, you can proudly display it on all marketing material to guarantee to the world, your spa is dedicated to the industryÂ’s highest standards. Your spa will also immediately receive all of the benefits of our program including a description of your spa with a live link on our website, extensive media coverage and elevated respect from the industry.

Spa Secure, founded in 2004 by Melinda Minton, is fully committed to raising the level of integrity and credibility to the spa industry by awarding licensing to spas that meet the highest standards. Spa Secure recently licensed Oasis, Exhale and Stone Spa in New York City. Licensing inspections have also been scheduled in Chicago and Los Angeles for the month of August and in locations in Florida for the month of September.

The Leading 50 Companies Hold 15% of the Landscaping Services Market in the US

The Leading 50 Companies Hold 15% of the Landscaping Services Market in the US

Research and Markets (researchandmarkets. com/reports/c35842) has announced the addition of Landscaping Services - Industry Profile to their offering.

Dublin (PRWEB) April 21, 2006

Research and Markets (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c35842 (http://www. researchandmarkets. com/reports/c35842)) has announced the addition of Landscaping Services - Industry Profile to their offering.

Brief Excerpt from Industry Overview Chapter:

The US landscaping services industry includes about 50,000 companies with combined annual revenue of $40 billion. Large companies include the TruGreen division of ServiceMaster, Davey Tree Expert, Brickman Group, and Asplundh Tree Expert. The vast majority of companies are small with annual revenue less than $2 million. The industry is highly fragmented: the top 50 companies hold only 15 percent of the market.

Competitive Landscape

Demand is driven partly by construction of new commercial properties and partly by the economy's overall health. Because management and equipment costs are mainly fixed, the profitability of individual companies depends on demand volume and operations' efficiency. Small companies can easily compete with big ones, except in providing services to large customers. Big companies operate mainly through local branches or offices that have operations almost identical to those of local companies. Annual revenue per employee is about $70,000.

Products, Operations & Technology

Landscaping services include commercial and residential landscape maintenance, landscape installation, irrigation systems, tree services, chemical lawn care, and "line-clearing": branch removal around utility lines. Larger companies may offer several of these services, but most provide just one. Landscape installation and maintenance account for the bulk of industry revenue; tree services account for about 30 percent. In winter, many companies provide snow removal services.

Procurement Strategies Pose Risk to Life, Says Xmo Strata Boss

Procurement Strategies Pose Risk to Life, Says Xmo Strata Boss

The author of a hard-hitting book on the sign industry says that modern procurement trends are sending the signal that some large companies ‘don’t care about health and safety’.

MARDEN, England (PRWEB) August 1, 2008

Steve Martin, Managing Director of sign installation and maintenance company Xmo Strata and the author of Safety Quality Tricks and Lies: dirty tricks in the British sign industry and 100 questions your sign company doesn't want you to ask, says that the tick-box approach to procurement questionnaires frequently sends a 'subtext' message to bidding companies that they can ignore health and safety related issues, or indeed that they are a secondary consideration after cost savings.

"The customer firm will sometimes have health and safety policies in place, and will make claims about its health and safety credentials. To comply with these policies, bidding companies often have to simply tick a box next to such a statement as 'please confirm your willingness to adhere to the company's health and safety policies' and possibly supply generic documents if requested. The rest of the tender then goes into lengthy details about performance, key performance indicators, price and cost savings, with the final part being 'now name your price', or words to that effect," said Mr Martin. "Any sign firm can win business which is decided on this basis - you hire cheap people, use cheap materials, bullshit where necessary and you go in with a rock-bottom price."

"The weight of wording about price and service often leads suppliers to think that safety is an afterthought and isn't critical to winning the contract. Questionnaires like this are a very loud signal that to the customer, health and safety is a risk which they wish to transfer to the supplier, and I'm afraid that under UK law you cannot do that, however much your procurement department may wish to.

"There is a clearly expressed legal obligation on the customer company to provide a 'safe working environment', and quite often risk transfer in a contract or procurement document simply won't be accepted by a court, which is the ultimate test. As the customer, you have a responsibility to ask contractors to prove that they are competent. Everyone involved in a project should share responsibility for good health and safety practices.

"If someone has an accident and hires a no-win, no-fee lawyer, they will probably sue the party with the deepest pockets, and that is usually the customer. Even individual managers in the customer company may be in peril of criminal proceedings if they are shown to have been cavalier in their attitude towards health and safety."

Mr Martin says that the sign industry is populated by a disproportionately large percentage of senior managers who have no formal management training and who have failed to keep pace with significant advances in health and safety legislation.

"This failure places both them, and their customers, at risk of prosecution and civil proceedings. Customer companies need to be a lot more vigilant to protect themselves from liability claims and reputational and brand damage, arising from accidents resulting in fatalities or serious injury."

Procurement questionnaires need to be a lot more probing about health and safety issues. Any prudent customer will have a documented audit trail showing that it has asked penetrating questions, and done everything reasonable to satisfy itself that the answers it has received are true.

"Modern procurement strategies are often devised by commodity buyers, not service buyers, and this poor technical knowledge base allows unscrupulous contractors a lot of leeway, which poses a risk not just to the contractor, but to the customer company and its managers," said Mr Martin.

Timeshare Company Distinguishes Itself Through Search Engine Optimization

Timeshare Company Distinguishes Itself Through Search Engine Optimization

Successful dot-coms can show up in unlikely places. Timeshare company starts small, grows fast, thanks to internet marketing skills of founders.

Dover, NH (PRWEB) March 13, 2007

Sell My Timeshare NOW, a recognized industry leader in online timeshare resales and rentals, credits their success in large part to the use of internet marketing techniques and good search engine optimization. Their rapid growth proves that even a company far from Silicon Valley can still carve out a place as a dot-com success story.

Located in quaint Dover NH (http://www. ci. dover. nh. us/), the oldest permanent settlement in the state, Sell My Timeshare NOW has used the internet to redefine the way both the timeshare industry and consumers look at timeshare resales and timeshare rentals. Owners Jason Tremblay (http://timeshareownersblog. sellmytimesharenow. com/) and Mark Eldridge originally began the company in a spare room at Tremblay's home. Their business model was simple. They would, for a reasonable fee, advertise and market timeshare resales that individual owners wished to sell or rent. The two entrepreneurs believed if they utilized the best strategies of internet marketing to make their website, SellMyTimeshareNOW. com, the most widespread timeshare resales website on the World Wide Web, they could create a high-visibility location for timeshare sellers to connect with timeshare buyers and renters.

How well has it worked? It's easy to check. Go to Google or other popular search engine and type in almost any words that have to do with timeshares, for example "sell timeshare," or "Florida timeshare," or even something a little more unusual like, "timeshare resales in Lebanon". No matter how often a person tries it or what terms he or she might use, the website for Sell My Timeshare NOW will consistently appear as one of the top listings in the search results. Once Tremblay and Eldridge achieved such well-positioned placement on the internet, people with timeshare property to sell or rent quickly realized that if they found the website so easily, prospective buyers and renters would as well.

To demonstrate to potential customers how successfully they have mastered the skills of internet placement, Sell My Timeshare NOW publishes live tracking reports (http://extremetracking. com/open;unique? login=sellmy) on their website, showing where visitors are coming from and what search terms they used to get there. Currently over 10,000 unique visitors come to the Sell My Timeshare NOW website every day. On top of this, there are 20,000 or more website reloads or revisits daily, meaning that people like what they see on the site and return to shop for more. The 30,000-plus website visits each day represent computer users in over 176 countries.

In three years of operation, Sell My Timeshare NOW has had a strong impact on the timeshare industry. In November of 2006, Tremblay and Eldridge were invited to participate in the first-ever timeshare resales think tank held in Washington, D. C., which was conducted by the American Resort Development Association (http://www. arda. org). The growing company has also had to find time to relocate twice since it opened. Their first move took them out of Tremblay's home and into a small office in Hampton, NH. But it wasn't long before more growing pains brought them to their present location in a historic textile mill, originally constructed in 1814. The New Hampshire staff includes 80 employees, while a smaller staff runs a timeshare resales satellite office in Altamonte Springs, (Orlando) Florida.

Although other timeshare resales companies are attempting to follow in their footsteps, Tremblay and Eldridge say they are not concerned. Competition, they point out, is healthy for business.

About Sell My Timeshare NOW, LLC:

Sell My Timeshare NOW is an industry leader in providing advertising and marketing for timeshare owners wishing to sell or rent their timeshare. In 2006, SellMyTimeshareNOW. com presented $229,962,492 in offers to buy or rent timeshares to their customers. Jason Tremblay, CEO, is available for interview.

New DataCore Customer Alameda County Medical Center Selects SANmelody Storage Virtualization and Citrix XenServer

New DataCore Customer Alameda County Medical Center Selects SANmelody Storage Virtualization and Citrix XenServer

By embracing virtual SAN storage servers in conjunction with XenServer, healthcare provider receives an affordable solution that is far more flexible than a proprietary approach. Together, DataCore SANmelody and Citrix XenServer provide replication and ensure full disaster recovery.

Oakland, CA and Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) July 28, 2008

DataCore Software, the leading provider of storage virtualization software, today announced that its SANmelody software is serving as the foundation of a replication and disaster recovery (DR) plan at Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC) that was orchestrated by DataCore partner Entisys. The IT environment at ACMC was fundamentally based upon products from Dell and EMC as well as virtual machines from VMware. ACMC is comprised of multiple sites and as a county hospital the organization is under a number of budget constraints. Entisys presented the Citrix XenServer and DataCore SANmelody DR solution based upon XenServer, which provides great savings to the medical center. "Instead of buying another EMC product to replicate the SAN, we showed them what DataCore can do and ACMC was able to complete a replication scenario for pennies on the dollar with XenServer and DataCore," said Thad Morrow, Director of Sales, Entisys. "But it is not so much about the cost savings as much as it is a case where ACMC could use DataCore to support a very distributed environment where multiple vendors' products are deployed and make a full-on disaster recovery solution possible."

"ACMC has struggled to maintain a disaster recovery or business continuity plan, and has had to use what was available to us - an existing data center that is thirteen miles away," said Ed Dullard, Chief Information Officer, Alameda County Medical Center. "ACMC had been a longstanding Citrix customer, so for cost savings it was a natural choice to replace VMware for XenServers."

"We had been a Citrix shop, so we jumped at the opportunity with XenServer," said Dave Bennett, Director of Technical Support, Alameda County Medical Center. "We liked the product and did not see any tangible difference between them and VMware. As for DataCore, we started looking at SANmelody at the request of DataCore partner Entisys. This was the best technology we saw for our needs, whereby we could economically leverage iSCSI for the remote site SAN rather than spend a lot more on a Fibre Channel SAN." ACMC is currently deploying the solution. The initial data pool will start at 8TBs.

For the deployment, ACMC chose Dell hardware to run the SANmelody-XenServer solution. From a software standpoint, the solution cost ACMC at least five times less than a comparable, proprietary hardware SAN. The choice was more than just money, however; it was about flexibility. With DataCore ACMC does not have to worry about matching up machines, nor did they have any issue with the replication software being able to "talk" between disparate hosts. This ease of use and manageability was just as important as upfront cost savings because the IT staff at ACMC is already spread thin, wherein eight IT people support 2,600 users.

The mission of the medical center is to maintain and improve the health of all County residents, regardless of ability to pay. There are six campuses comprising ACMC, including the main hospital and trauma center in Oakland, California, another hospital in San Leandro, California, provides rehabilitation and extended care, a psychiatric hospital in the same location and three ambulatory clinics. In terms of the IT architecture, all of the campuses are linked via a high speed ATM providing 65 MBs of bandwidth.

Two years ago ACMC purchased and deployed a SAN from EMC. "That was the first step we took in order to consolidate storage rather than using individual servers," explained Bennett. "As such it was the first step down this path." Since then, Dave and his team have taken a different look at the way they store data as well as what is stored, particularly in terms of putting a premium on both data and systems recovery. The organization used VMware in conjunction with its EMC SAN. With DataCore, both VMware and XenServers are in place currently - although longer-term the plan is to standardize on XenServer. "The cost difference between VMware and Xen is pretty substantial," Dave added. "As for DataCore, I could see some real advantages in using DataCore in our environment."

Chiefly, Bennett and his team were sold on SANmelody's ability to first and foremost enable them to utilize existing server storage that was not being used, thereby eliminating the need to go out and buy new disk space. Performance was another key selling point. As for price, Bennett comments, "The price was right. SANmelody just made sense when you put the whole thing together - being able to use existing storage where possible and the performance increases we saw firsthand."

The disaster recovery site at the secondary location in Fairmont will enable ACMC to avoid going to tape back-ups. With the DR site, the IT team can pull data right away and pull whole systems up if necessary when the ones at the primary location go down. "Before this, our whole DR plan revolved around just how fast we could get servers and software available to rebuild them," explained Wright Lassiter, CEO, Alameda County Medical Center. "With virtualization technology as it is today, it makes sense to be able to bring systems and data over from another site when the situation dictates that."

ACMC is taking the classic virtualization approach. They have physical servers, which will be virtualized and then replicated on virtual machines. The VMs with those changes will then be replicated to ACMC's Fairmont site and available in the case of any calamity. "DataCore made this project very achievable for a variety of reasons," summarized Morrow. "A real win for DataCore was the simplicity of the technology. Sure SANmelody is affordable, but more than anything DataCore technology is effective. Additionally, the IT staff at Alameda County Medical Center could implement SANmelody quickly, as well own, manage and grow the solution very easily without the need for professional support."

SciAnswers. com Grows and Adds a Technical and Healthcare Professionals Job Board

SciAnswers. com Grows and Adds a Technical and Healthcare Professionals Job Board.

SciAnswers. com, a recently launched science related Q&A and social networking site, grows and adds new offerings, including answer customization options and a job board for technical and healthcare professionals.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) February 18, 2010

SciAnswers. com (http://scianswers. com/), launched just over three months ago in November 2009 as a science related questions and answers (Q&A) and social networking site, grows in membership and offerings. The site has received hundreds of various science and health related questions and answers posted by registered members and by anonymous or guest users. Many registered members have also created blogs using a blogging component that is available within the social media environment of the site. These blogs vary tremendously in content, ranging from discussions of pregnancy issues, weight loss (http://socialmedia. scianswers. com/weightlossbeforeafter/2009/12/12/weight-loss-before-after-how-to-get-your-own-after/) methods, panic disorders and stress, to the training of pets and the science of gardening.

There are three distinct avenues of scientific questioning occurring routinely at SciAnswers. com. First are simple science, math and healthcare questions from students and other members of the general public. SciAnswers. com continues to answer these “more simple” questions promptly and at no charge, and encourages other registered members to also provide answers and commentary. A second class of inquiries are more complex and require more in-depth answers. For this type of questioning, SciAnswers. com charges a small fee in return for a well researched answer from one of our Ph. D. level moderators. Customization options for the level of detail that is to be provided as a response to a question are presented whenever a user submits a question via the SciAnswers. com homepage. It is believed that students and home schooling teachers will be able to utilize SciAnswers. com to resolve science and math issues beyond their expertise. Two examples of types of questions and responses are provided via these links: (1) protein anchoring to a cell membrane (http://www. scianswers. com/topic. php? id=638) and (2) ongoing changes in the universe (http://www. scianswers. com/topic. php? id=554).

A few of our guests have requested highly in-depth responses to medical or scientific inquiries that require lengthy responses. For these inquiries, SciAnswers. com charges a slightly higher fee for a response that will include a comprehensive report with appropriate literature citations and references. Extremely complex reports, including those for FDA submission by the pharmaceutical industry, will continue to be managed through the parent company SciScout LLC.

Exciting News! SciAnswers. com has added a new Job Board feature. This Technical and Healthcare Professionals Job Board (http://jobs. scianswers. com/) allows job seekers, ranging typically from college graduates, to physicians and nursing professionals, to consultants, to seasoned medical and scientific management professionals to post their credentials and specify clearly the types of positions and salaries they seek. There is never any charge to SciAnswers. com guests who post their resumes. While this Job Board will also pull in technical and healthcare related jobs from Indeed. com, there will be high-level positions listed on SciAnswers. com that may not appear elsewhere.

Tech-Savvy Gulf Coast Chiropractor Cures Practice Headaches with RAPID Chiropractic Software from ACOM's Healthcare Business Division

Tech-Savvy Gulf Coast Chiropractor Cures Practice Headaches with RAPID Chiropractic Software from ACOM's Healthcare Business Division

Florida chiropractor Dr. Joseph Ferrantelli enhanced the efficiency and productivity of his practice as well as his relationships with referral sources with the implementation of RAPID chiropractic software from the ACOM Healthcare Business Division.

New Port Richey, Florida (PRWEB) December 6, 2007

Successful New Port Richey chiropractor and self-described computer geek Dr. Joseph Ferrantelli has not only streamlined his diagnostic, treatment and office operations with ACOM's RAPID EMR chiropractic clinical notes and documentation software, he also takes it on the road for the benefit of lecture audiences at association and independent seminars.

A graduate of Life University School of Chiropractic and Florida State University, Dr. Ferrantelli owns Advanced Chiropractic Associates, Inc., a six-year-old family practice that emphasizes the structural rehabilitation of spinal injuries resulting from automobile, sports and workplace accidents. He specializes in procedures using the Clinical Biomechanics of Posture/Chiropractic Biophysics (CBP) Technique, which employs specialized devices to correct subluxations that underlie spinal and pelvic injuries, deformities and the accompanying pain. He is a published author and co-author of original research on the subject.

Besides the doctor, the practice comprises an office staff of four, who also assist with procedures, and a massage therapist. The practice sees 150-200 patients in a typical work week.

"We were not strangers to the application of chiropractic software systems but until we obtained RAPID, nothing we tried had helped very much," Dr. Ferrantelli said. "We still had to scribe and key in daily notes, and the reporting process was cumbersome. Staff was somewhat resistant because software often was hard to learn and difficult to use, so we sometimes fell behind in reporting. That impacted many things: productivity within the office; relationships with attorneys and referring doctors; and ultimately, whether and how quickly we were paid."

RAPID EMR has impacted the practice in many ways, internally and externally. Among them:
Easy implementation and training, fast staff uptake Fast recording of more detailed notes through use of graphical helpers, checklists Rapid response to requests for documentation by attorneys, payers, referring physicians Better relations with referral sources; more referrals Instant production of reports, bulleted for easy analysis, with coding support Easier demonstration of medical necessity Fast payment, virtually no denials Easy demonstration of value of maintenance/wellness programs Conservation of staff time, diversion of personnel to revenue-related activities Patient self-registration kiosk; reduced one-hour process to only 15 minutes.

"Altogether, these factors combine for a more efficient practice as well as more positive relationships with the people we deal with," Dr. Ferrantelli said. "For example, attorneys get what they need for cases quickly, often leading to better working relations and increased referrals. RAPID's helpers aid us in diagnosis, since patients often fail to describe their problems fully, and the helpers often reveal additional complaints."

"The software provides a choice from 10 outcomes assessment reports and we typically use three or four with every case. These reports also help establish the rationale for continuing maintenance at the conclusion of the case. The staff loves the software and you can typically find them hanging out at the ACOM booth at trade shows."

Near term, Dr. Ferrantelli will fill out his ACOM suite with the integration of the RAPID EPM chiropractic office management suite to create a RAPID Complete practice environment.

"With RAPID Complete, we will be able to send charges directly to the chiropractic billing (http://www. acomemr. com/overview-epm. html) feature, saving even more time and labor by automating the process and providing the option of either electronic or paper-based billing. We recommend RAPID chiropractic software to other doctors enthusiastically."

Second Accelerator to More Than Double E-BEAM Services’ Medical Sterilization, Polymer Crosslinking Capacity in Ohio Plant

Second Accelerator to More Than Double E-BEAM Services’ Medical Sterilization, Polymer Crosslinking Capacity in Ohio Plant

E-BEAM Services, Inc. will immediately start expanding the company’s Lebanon, OH electron beam processing facility, more than doubling their regional capacity to meet the growing demand for advanced sterilization and enhancement of plastic materials for health care and plastic products manufacturers.

Lebanon, OH (PRWEB) August 16, 2010

E-BEAM Services, Inc. has announced immediate plans to expand the company’s Lebanon, OH electron beam processing (http://www. ebeamservices. com/ebeam_services. htm) facility to 90,000 sq. ft., slated for completion in the second quarter of 2011. This expansion will include the installation of a second electron beam accelerator that is expected to more than double their regional processing capacity to provide medical product sterilization, bioreduction and crosslinking of polymers (http://www. ebeamservices. com/cross-li. htm) for a growing number of manufacturing customers being served by the company in the Midwest and Canada.

At a projected capital cost of $10 million, E-BEAM’s expansion plans are expected to double the workforce employed at the Lebanon site and will qualify the project for $6.5 million in Recovery Zone Facility Bonds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

"We have a good business case for investing in capacity expansion," claims E-BEAM President Paul Minbiole. "Having two electron beam accelerators in adjacent facilities offers the greatest flexibility and efficiency in processing products for our customers so that they can take maximum advantage of the significant investment we’ve made in people and equipment."

E-beam processing offers an attractive method for the sterilization of medical devices (http://www. ebeamservices. com/steriliz. htm) in high volume and is also used for polymer crosslinking, a cost-effective process for enhancing the strength and other physical properties of specialty plastic products. "Simply put, we ‘zap’ our customer’s products with electrons," notes Minbiole. "The electron beam accelerator uses clean electrons and is a pure, value-added step in the manufacture of these products. As the economy recovers, specialty manufacturers are choosing E-BEAM Services to provide this critical process, whether small companies or Fortune 500 companies."

About E-BEAM Services:
E-BEAM Services, Inc. is the leading supplier of contract electron beam processing services for product sterilization/bioreduction (http://www. ebeamservices. com/ebeam_sterilization. htm) and polymer product enhancement (http://www. ebeamservices. com/crosslinking. htm), with more than 450kW of installed accelerator capacity -- enough to process nearly one billion pounds of material annually. E-BEAM was incorporated in 1985 to acquire the e-beam service division of a subsidiary of Monsanto and is a privately owned corporation with over 50 employees in Lebanon, OH, Cranbury, NJ and Lafayette, IN. Emirates Hotels & Resorts Opens New Restaurant

Emirates Hotels & Resorts Opens New Restaurant

Emirates Hotels & Resorts opens the doors of new restaurant az-u-r at The Harbour Hotel & Residence in Dubai Marina.

Dubai, UAE (PRWEB) August 24, 2008

The Harbour Hotel & Residence, Emirates' city-based hotel located in the Dubai Marina, opens the doors of its new restaurant az-u-r, Dubai's first 'farm-to-fork' restaurant, delivering the kind of food which has made Mediterranean cooking the world's most popular dining choice.

Az-u-r (read 'as you are') is inspired by the cooking styles from countries around 'The Med', from Spain and Morocco in the west to Lebanon in the east. In addition, it serves many of those great traditional dishes for which French and Italian cooking have become famous.

Tony Williams, Senior Vice President, Emirates Hotels & Resorts (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/group/en/ (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/group/en/)) said: "We really wanted to mirror the authentic food experienced in regional Mediterranean towns and villages where local produce is provided fresh on a daily basis, and immediately used in traditional menus, often following family recipes. As a result the food is distinctive, giving guests a tastier, 'made-to-order' and homemade 'farm-to-fork' dining experience."

Executive Chef, Chris Baker, who put together the culinary team at The Harbour, commented: "There are several key aspects to Mediterranean cooking, and each one has been tackled with equal passion. The first challenge was to trace authentic, family-tradition homemade recipes. We then met personally with many of the fresh-produce suppliers to small, regional restaurants in the Mediterranean. In doing so, we have uncovered some of the world's best organic food producers, and certainly some of the highest quality produce I have seen in years. 'Farm-to-fork' became our motto - we travelled extensively, visiting fruit and vegetable farms, local bread mills and bakeries, and even fish-markets.

"The effort was time-consuming, but certainly worth it. For example, we even source our own wheat and wholegrain flour for the bakery, baking all our own bread every day using fresh eggs and quality butter. Preparing food from scratch makes a huge difference. Our bread is now so popular that we bake extra so that local residents can come and collect their bread at Counter Culture, our deli-style restaurant on the ground level."

Az-u-r is on the pool-deck of the Harbour Hotel & Residence (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/the-harbour/en/ (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/the-harbour/en/)), and aligned with the Timeless Spa (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/the-harbour/en/the-experience/spa-and-fitness/timeless-spa/ (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/the-harbour/en/the-experience/spa-and-fitness/timeless-spa/)) on the same level. To complement the Spa, the restaurant offers a range of healthy menus, from cheeses to wholesome salads, which predominantly use organic products. The az-u-r kitchen is open in design, giving guests easy access to the chefs and the experience of a cosy, informal atmosphere.

More than 70 per cent of the produce served at az-u-r (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/the-harbour/en/the-experience/the-harbour-dining/spa-restaurant/ (http://www. emirateshotelsresorts. com/the-harbour/en/the-experience/the-harbour-dining/spa-restaurant/)) has been organically sourced. The staff have been trained by organic expert Dave Friend, who also assisted in the selection of food, sourced according to the seasons. Produce comes from as far a field as Spain, Italy, Lebanon, and France.

An extensive choice of wines and mineral waters accompany the culinary options, with az-u-r offering a selection of over 70 wines, including Vega Sicilia Unico, Tignanello, Sassicaia, Chateau Musar and Chateau Cheval Blanc, alongside a collection of organic wines.

Az-u-r has a relaxed and casual atmosphere, integral to the restaurant's dining offering. An easy place to meet for an aperitif, the venue is comfortable, with direct views of the Marina. From the spacious terrace, guests can feel immersed in the ultimate Dubai experience and al-fresco dining options are available.

About the Harbour Hotel & Residence
The 52-storey luxurious Harbour Hotel & Residence, a USD141 million investment for Emirates, opened its doors in November 2007. Located at the gateway entrance to the Dubai Marina, the hotel is set within Dubai's most fashionable and sought-after lifestyle districts.

Preventive Plumbing Service Helps Homeowners Avoid Costly Plumbing Repairs

Preventive Plumbing Service Helps Homeowners Avoid Costly Plumbing Repairs

Homeowners seldom call for plumbing service until they have a problem. One plumbing expert says that is a serious mistake that can cost thousands of dollars in preventable losses. Master plumber Bill Stevens advocates preventive plumbing services to spot potential problems before they require an expensive plumbing repair, and says the idea is gaining momentum.

Southlake, TX (PRWEB) May 28, 2010

Most homeowners call a plumber only when they have a problem so big they no longer can ignore it – when a slow drain stops up completely or low water pressure turns out to be the result of a slab leak, for example.

Bill Stevens says that is the expensive way to hire a plumber, and he is on a mission to change the way people think about plumbing service by declaring June Preventive Plumbing Month in North Texas. He says that, as with maintaining good personal health, or keeping the family car running right, prevention plays a big role in preventing expensive plumbing repairs (http://www. berkeys. com/plumbing_tune_ups. aspx).

“It’s odd that people who get annual physical exams and have the family car maintained regularly never connect the word ‘preventive’ with plumbing,” Stevens said. “We’ve been working to change that, and now we see the needle moving in the right direction.”

Stevens, president of Berkey’s Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc., is putting his money where his mouth is, offering preventive plumbing inspections to customers at less than the cost of a regular plumbing service call (http://www. berkeys. com/plumbing. aspx).

Berkey’s plumbers (http://www. berkeys. com/licensed_plumbers_only. aspx) perform an 11-point inspection of a home’s plumbing system that includes examining and testing:
Operation of all under-cabinet water supplies All exposed drain lines for leaks Flush adjustment on all toilets Adjusting handles on all faucets Water heater installation Water pressure Garbage disposal operation Tub and shower drains Outside hose bibs for leaks Cleaning out drain lines under sinks Gas lines for leaks

The services costs $79 if purchased alone, but most customers get it as part of the company’s Universal Protection Plan (http://www. berkeys. com/universal_protection_plan. aspx), an innovative service agreement that bundles tune ups on all of a home’s central air and heating systems, spring and fall, with an annual plumbing tune up, all for $99.

“We still have more people who get AC and heating tune ups because they have been conditioned to think that way by the industry,” Stevens said. “The plumbing industry hasn’t advocated prevention the way the air conditioning industry has, but that’s changing now, and we’re glad to be leading the charge.”

How important can preventive plumbing service be? A small leak beneath a house can cause the foundation or slab to shift and crack (http://www. berkeys. com/slab_leak_detection. aspx), breaking water lines, resulting in a flooded house. That kind of problem can cost thousands of dollars in damages in addition to the plumbing repair.

“We can’t prevent everything, but we catch a lot of critical issues with this kind of plumbing service,” Stevens said. “It just makes sense to find these things early, so we can work on prevention instead of repair.”

Change Your Thoughts and You Will Change Your Life

Change Your Thoughts and You Will Change Your Life

Learn from the Masters about destructive behaviors that come from negative thoughts. How do we change these or her destructive habits in our lives.

Bonsall, CA (PRWEB) December 26, 2005

No person can become prosperous while he really expects to remain holding the poverty thoughts, keeping in touch with poverty producing conditions will discourage prosperity.

Before a person can lift himself up in his life he must change his thoughts. They will have to learn to master their thought habits, or keep their minds home but to the great divining inflow of life force, we have to learn the truth of human possibilities.

The book points out the fact that what is called success may be failure. That when man loved money so much that they sacrifice their friendships, their families, their home life, sacrificed position, their health, everything for the dollar, their life is a failure although they may have accumulated money.

It shows how man has become rich at the price of their ideals, their character, at the cost of everything that should define a persons character. It preaches the largest doctrine of the quality. The quality of the whole and purpose which paves a clear path even to the presidential chair for a Lincoln or Bush, for anyone who will pay the price of study and struggle.

Men who feel themselves badly handicapped, crippled by their lack of early education, will find in their lives great encouragement to broaden their horizon, and will get a practical helpful sensible education. Some people seem to give up and quit, get discouraged, wonder what are we doing here and seem to have no hope.

We cannot discount the leaders of our past or ordinary people with extraordinary persistence and perseverance. there is inspiration, encouragement and helpfulness with no limits which can be placed on one's career if he has and wants learn the alphabet and understands that there are no barriers that can stop you from achieving success. Encouragement is its keynote. It aims to arouse your honorable exertion to awaken dormant ambition and those who have grown this scourge in the struggle for success.

Change your thinking and he will change your life forever.

Canon Recruiting Group Selects Jobmagic for Social Recruiting

Canon Recruiting Group Selects Jobmagic for Social Recruiting

Fast-growing staffing firm finds new talent quickly with Facebook-powered recruiting platform

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) October 26, 2010

Contingent and temporary staffing firm Canon Recruiting Group has chosen Jobmagic as its social media recruiting platform to find and attract candidates outside of job boards.

The Canon Recruiting Group, based in Southern California, has been a leader in contingent and temporary staffing since 1980 and often staffs for executive-level positions. The firm staffs for a variety of industries, including insurance, banking and mortgage, entertainment, human resources and legal. Canon was recognized in the 2010 Inc. Magazine's list of Fastest Growing Companies in America.

Jobmagic, the leading social media recruiting platform, helps companies quickly and easily reach the best talent on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and 300 other social networks--at a fraction of the cost of other approaches. Jobmagic job postings are native to social media, which triggers sharing within referral networks. This results in higher-quality candidates. To amplify the network effect and to reach a high number of candidates, all Jobmagic job postings are social media optimized. The comprehensive platform includes advanced technologies for social media sourcing, social media optimization, automatic job publishing to social media, referral hiring, talent network management and semantic profile-based matching.

James Grayem, general manager of Canon, decided to try Jobmagic to enhance exposure to the vast talent pool represented by those who are active on social sites. Canon works with some of the largest organizations, such as Bank of America, to find professionals for hard-to-fill positions. Grayem said Jobmagic has been a great tool to reach people who are suitable for these positions-- qualified passive candidates who are difficult to find.

"Jobmagic has been a great tool to reach people who are often not on big job boards," Grayem said. "The quality of candidates is higher, and we get a bulk of qualified candidates per posting for our positions. That's what Jobmagic delivers."

"We are thrilled to continue working with Canon, one of the fastest-growing staffing firms in the country," said Jindrich Liska, founder and chief executive officer of Jobmagic. "Facebook represents the largest and the most engaged talent pool in the world, and we are committed to providing Canon with the comprehensive tools to quickly and efficiently tap into Facebook and fill demanding positions."

Grayem admits that he hesitated at first to try what could have been just another recruiting tool-of-the-week. "I was reluctant at first to try Jobmagic, but it's made us look good on a number of occasions because we can get results faster than anyone else."

A free trial of the Jobmagic platform is available at http://www. jobmagic. com/.

Meritcare Announces Third Webcast: View a Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy – Powered by slp3D

Meritcare Announces Third Webcast: View a Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy – Powered by slp3D

Fargo, ND (PRWEB) October 22, 2003 -

On Monday, October 27, at 12:00 p. m. CST, MeritCare will produce a live, surgical webcast of a Hand-Assisted Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomy. MeritCare is one of a handful of healthcare institutions in the nation to broadcast live, surgical webcasts and the only hospital in North Dakota to offer both kidney and pancreas transplants. The surgery will be performed by a MeritCare surgical team consisting of Bhargav Mistry, M. D., transplant surgeon, and Timothy Monson, M. D., general and laparoscopic surgeon. Dr. Mistry and Dr. Monson will be available to field questions from viewers from around the world that are submitted via e-mail during the live webcast.

• The surgical procedure: The hand-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomy is a less invasive technique for removing a kidney from a living donor for transplantation. The surgery involves the insertion of a laparoscope (surgical telescope) through three to five small incisions in the donorÂ’s abdomen. Using precision instruments that are inserted into the small openings, the surgeon prepares the donorÂ’s kidney for removal while simultaneously observing a magnified image on a TV monitor. When the kidney is ready for removal, the transplant surgeon gently removes the kidney through a small opening. The kidney is then prepared for transplantation into the recipient.

• The benefits: This technique for kidney removal is a vast improvement on the traditional method of open nephrectomy, which requires a longer incision and the removal of a rib. The laparoscopic technique requires several smaller incisions to remove the kidney, allowing minimal disruption to the donorÂ’s abdominal wall. This results in less pain and scarring, a shorter hospital stay and a quicker recovery time for the donor.

MeritCareÂ’s Transplant Program: MeritCare Health System has provided kidney transplants since 1989 with a total of 325 transplants having taken place in the past 14 years. MeritCare Transplant Services currently provides both kidney and pancreas transplants. Transplant surgeon Dr. Bhargav Mistry has performed over 140 transplants since he joined MeritCare in the fall of 2000. The first laparoscopic donor nephrectomy was performed at MeritCare in February of 2002 by Dr. Monson and Dr. Mistry. Twenty-six additional laparoscopic nephrectomies have taken place since that time.

Author and Healer Margaret Ruby to Speak at Breathe Yoga Studio

Activate your Abundance Gene at Breathe...A Yoga & Massage Studio, Woodstock, Ga on Monday, Oct. 23, 2006 at 7-8:30pm. Author Margaret Ruby to speak, present a free Abundance Gene Activation and sign copies of her book, The Dna of Healing.

Woodstock, GA (PRWEB) October 19, 2006

Breathe … A Yoga & Massage Studio proudly presents Margaret Ruby, a pioneer and educator in the field of healing, who will conduct a free presentation about how our Dna affects our health and well being. The event will be held on Monday, Oct. 23, from 7:00 p. m. – 8:30 p. m. at the studio’s Woodstock location beside Papa Johns at 3353 Trickum Road/Ste. 100.

Founder of Possibilities Dna, Ruby is the author of The Dna of Healing. The book reveals that our physical Dna is only half of our genetic story, the other half of which is the emotional Dna handed down through many generations. Ruby contends that the stories of our ancestors affect our success and failures today.

“Margaret offers a practical and easy guide for discovering why your personal family history is affecting you,” says Ann Pauley, co-owner of Breathe, along with Shalan Hill.

Ruby teaches that we all have an abundance and wellness blueprint stored in the memory of our Dna and that we are either attracting or repelling wellness and abundance. On. Oct. 23 at Breathe, she will be offering a free Abundance Gene Activation and will be signing copies of her book, The Dna of Healing.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to reset your genetic code and experience a profound transformation that you will feel at the cellular level,” says Hill. “You will learn how you do not have to be a prisoner of your genetic heritage.”

If you are not 100% satisfied with your current health, wealth and relationships, you will want to hear all about this simple, yet accelerated healing process. The activation includes music, visual images, light, sound, color and sacred geometry.

Breathe offers yoga classes, massage therapy, and other healing modalities, specializing in pain relief, relaxation, Sports Massage, Postural Balancing, CranioSacral Therapy, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Relief, Reiki/Energy Therapy, Office Chair Massage, Reflexology, and the Emotional Freedom Techniques (Eft).

Former NAEA Chief Executive and President Joins HIPAG

Former NAEA Chief Executive and President Joins HIPAG

Rob Hailstone, CEO of HIPAG Services Ltd, the Independent HIP Group, is delighted to announce that Hugh Dunsmore-Hardy, the former Chief Executive of the National Association of Estate Agents, has joined as a Non-Executive Director.

London, England (PRWEB) February 5, 2006

Rob Hailstone, CEO of HIPAG Services Ltd, the Independent HIP Group, is delighted to announce that Hugh Dunsmore-Hardy, the former Chief Executive of the National Association of Estate Agents, has joined as a Non-Executive Director.

Announcing the appointment, Rob Hailstone commented: “Having Hugh on board is a fantastic opportunity for HIPAG. We will be able to expand our knowledge, experience, and now the expertise to enhance what has already become an industry phenomenon - a group of like minded professionals who will not sit back and let the larger players dominate the HIP market.”

Formed over eighteen months ago, HIPAG was an action group with a handful of members. Today, it has now grown to become a thriving business with over 500 members - a healthy mix of solicitors, estate agents and surveyors/home inspectors.

Chief executive of the NAEA from 1994 to 2002 and a former president, Mr Dunsmore-Hardy has been an enthusiastic advocate of Home Information Packs for many years and has played a prominent role in developing key elements of the HIP. In addition to running his own consultancy, Hugh Dunsmore-Hardy is Chairman of the Transitional Board behind the formation of the National Association of Licensed Home Inspectors, (NALHI) an emerging trade body for this new profession.

Speaking about his appointment, Mr Dunsmore-Hardy added: “Independent estate agents, like the high street solicitor, will not sit back and accept a corporate dominated approach to the supply of HIPs. In fact, the more I learned about HIPAG, it’s concept and ethos, the more I realised that what was being proposed was not just common sense but good business sense.

HIPAG builds on the long-standing working relationships between estate agents and the conveyancer, where local knowledge will be an invaluable asset in HIP preparation and resolving queries - a quick pack, that will enable marketing, followed by a comprehensive pack, to enable faster conveyancing. Like many good ideas, the simple ones are the best!”

He continued: “HIPAG Services Ltd is poised to become one of the leading independent HIP providers and with the support and backing of OyezStraker, a £160m group company, I have no doubt that something that was once a vision, will become a reality. HIP production is not for the faint-hearted and requires a first class IT and distribution infrastructure. Rob and his team are fully geared up to do what needs to be done in 2006/2007 and I am very pleased to be part of that effort.”

Estes Audiology in Central Texas Celebrates its 5th Year, Experiences Rapid Growth Despite Recession

Estes Audiology in Central Texas Celebrates its 5th Year, Experiences Rapid Growth Despite Recession

Anniversary Coincides with National Protect Your Hearing Month

New Braunfels, TX (PRWEB) September 24, 2010

Estes Audiology, (http://www. hearlifeagain. com) a professional hearing healthcare provider dedicated to improving the lives of the hearing impaired and their families, will celebrate five years of serving Central Texas this October. Despite the economic downturn where many businesses have foundered, Estes Audiology has experienced increased growth.

Estes Audiology’s first office opened in New Braunfels in 2005 and now has 4 clinics with locations in New Braunfels, Boerne, Georgetown (Legacy Hills Hearing Center by Estes Audiology) and Kyle. In the past 5 years, Estes Audiology has provided healthcare services to more than 3000 patients in Central Texas. The company plans to expand further in the central Texas area in the future.

Owner and founder Soriya Estes, AuD, believes that Estes Audiology’s success story can be attributed to its emphasis in providing superior healthcare service. “I think that when we opened the practice in New Braunfels, services that were focused on rehabilitation of the hearing impaired were somewhat of an anomaly here in Central Texas. The key to our success has been our ability to fill that need,” stated Dr. Estes. “We do this through education, diagnosis, treatment and public service. We focus entirely on educating the patients and their families, making them aware of how they can protect their hearing, and giving them the best technological options for improving and protecting their hearing.”

Besides administering healthcare to its patients for the past 5 years, Estes Audiology serves the community of Central Texas. Highlights of Estes Audiology’s community service include the following:
More than 600 Austin-area musicians – individuals whose livelihoods depend on their sense of hearing - have been provided low-cost medical care and given custom earplugs through a collaboration between Estes Audiology and the non-profit Healthcare Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) called the HEAR Project, which was started in 2009. Each quarter, Estes’ Audiologists and UT doctoral students donate their time for a one-day hearing healthcare clinic to screen, educate and fit HAAM musicians with custom filtered earplugs.

Since 2005, Estes Audiology has given away more than $30,000 worth of hearing aid devices to Central Texans through the Gift of Hearing program. Each year during the holiday season, Estes Audiology donates two pair of hearing aids to deserving individuals within the community who suffer from hearing loss and lack the financial resources to purchase hearing aids.

Estes Audiology teamed up in May 2010 with the SERTOMA Club to recognize Better Hearing and Speech Month by asking residents in Central Texas to donate their used hearing aids and turn them in at designated locations. 147 donated hearing aids were collected and then given to the UT-Austin Speech and Hearing Clinic for refurbishing and then distribution to underprivileged patients.

This 5th year anniversary of Estes Audiology coincides with National Protect Your Hearing month. And the facts about hearing loss are unsettling.

Over 36 Million Americans – more than 4 times the size of New York City – suffer from some level of hearing loss.  50% who suffer from hearing loss are under the age of 65.  A recent report by the Journal of American Medical Association recently reported that 1 out of 5 teenagers are affected by hearing loss, a 33% increase from the 1990’s.

Truly discouraging is that one in three developed hearing loss as a result of exposure to noise, causing noise-induced hearing loss. In other words, Americans are suffering from hearing loss that could have been prevented.

In light of these statistics, Dr. Estes will commemorate this 5-year anniversary of Estes Audiology by encouraging public awareness of the dangers of prolonged exposure to loud noises. Dr. Estes was recently interviewed on Univision News 41 (http://www. univision. com/content/videoplayer. jhtml? cid=2531546) to discuss the dramatic surge in hearing loss in teenagers.

“Consumers need to be aware that there is a danger of noise at many sporting events. The level of noise at the 2010 Super Bowl was measured at 102 dB. The level of noise at the World Cup due to crowd noises and the vuvuzelas were measured at a decibel level of 113 which is louder than a chainsaw,” commented Dr. Estes. “It is my hope that our 5-year anniversary will serve as a reminder to avoid loud noises if possible. If you have to be exposed to noise, get protection.”

Permanent Cosmetics Industry Reacts to Misleading Information on Tyra Banks Show

Permanent Cosmetics Industry Reacts to Misleading Information on Tyra Banks Show

Tyra Banks Repudiates Permanent Cosmetics on national television. Society of Permanent Cosmetics Professionals (SPCP) responds.

Des Plaines, IL (PRWEB) May 16, 2008

On April 21, 2008, Tyra Banks hosted a live demonstration during what was stated to be a semi-permanent cosmetic procedure using vegetable dyes and minerals. Verika Seddick from the White Tea Spa in New York conducted the demonstration.

The Society of Permanent Cosmetics Professionals (SPCP) would like to clarify statements made during that demonstration. Vegetable dyes are never associated with tattooing. They are dyes used in the food industry to dye vegetables, fruits and meats. The pigments used in the cosmetic tattoo industry are either inorganic or organic (organic pigments are produced through the process of organic chemistry.) Quite possibly Ms. Seddick was mislead by the use of the word "organic." In the world of pigment formulation, organic does not have the same meaning as our society looks upon organic agriculture. Equally disturbing as Ms. Seddick's and Ms. Banks' obvious lack of knowledge of what the demonstration entailed, were their comments regarding tattooing and permanent cosmetics. Ms. Seddick stated that she wanted to make an important distinction, "This is not tattooing and you would never want permanent cosmetics on your face." Tyra echoed her words. A contradiction was soon to follow; Ms. Seddick tattooed a member of the audience's bottom eyeliner on one eye.

Professionals in the permanent cosmetic industry are incensed with this misrepresented and poorly conducted permanent cosmetic (tattoo) demonstration. There is grave concern that thousands and possibly millions of women who potentially could have viewed this demonstration now believe they can have semi-permanent makeup that is not tattooing and that the substance used will be dyes made from vegetables.

Furthermore, professionals are also incensed by the unprofessional and unhealthy manner in which the cosmetic tattooing demonstration was conducted. The following are a few of the known bloodborne pathogens (OSHA) regulations that were not adhered to as well as other matters of concern.
The client was not screened to be a good candidate for an invasive procedure; it appeared as if she were plucked out of the audience without an interview. Ms. Seddick indicated she could do the woman's lips. All professionals in the permanent cosmetic industry know that women of color are often not good candidates for lip color procedures because of their propensity to hyperpigment. Ms. Seddick did not wear appropriate PPE (protective covering) The client's skin was not properly cleaned before an anesthetic was applied. The client was not provided with a protective covering. There was no barrier film on the lamp used for lighting during the procedure. There was no barrier film on the hand piece of the tattoo machine. There was no covering of the cord of the hand piece down to the power supply source. The procedure was conducted poorly in that the eye area was not "gripped" (portions of the eye area held in place for safety and appropriate depth of tattooing.)

The permanent cosmetic industry is due an apology from Ms. Banks. Readers may go to the following link if they wish to view the demonstration, and the fallacious words spoken about permanent cosmetics. http://www. imeem. com/people/3NyCHVT/video/J-QttpeF/tyra_banks_show_april_21_2008_beauty_tips_from_around_t/ (http://www. imeem. com/people/3NyCHVT/video/J-QttpeF/tyra_banks_show_april_21_2008_beauty_tips_from_around_t/)

SPCP Position Statement Regarding Semi-Permanent Makeup

It is the position of the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals that pigments (colorants) placed into the dermis using needles are considered to be permanent. Results of fading, color change or lack of color are expected and are the result of factors such as skin variations, and sun fading. Improper application or faulty equipment can also affect the length of time color appears in the skin.

Permanent Cosmetics, Permanent Makeup, and Cosmetic Tattooing are all terms used to correctly identify the process of implanting pigments (inks) into the skin for cosmetic purposes. The term "semi-permanent" is reserved for long-wear topically applied makeup and is misleading to be associated with the tattoo industry. It implies mechanical control of the length of time a pigment may remain in the skin. There are no documented findings to suggest cosmetically tattooed skin can be reverted to its previous unaltered state within a specified timeframe stated by the technician or any other person.

Permanent cosmetics, when performed professionally with reputable pigments/ink, is an act of tattooing and is performed with the clear intention of the resulting implanted color to remain permanently.
Using the name semi-permanent is a crutch for less than favorable results and may also be considered an excuse for not properly explaining the nature of tattooing to a client.

There is no debate that what we do is tattooing. The accepted definition of a tattoo is a permanent mark or design made on the skin by a process of pricking and ingraining an indelible pigment or by raising scars. (Dictionary. com)

It is also common knowledge that many tattoo pigment colors are highly resistant or impossible to remove even with the most advanced laser techniques, so not only permanent, but also some may be non-removable as well. (FDA Science Forum, 2006, Body Marking: Tattoos, Permanent Make-up and Laser Removal.)

SPCP supplier members who manufacture pigment and devices were contacted to provide information that would support their pigments or devices as being able to provide semi-permanent results. None responded with affirmation that this could occur.

Readers are encouraged to go to this SPCP website link to read more on the subject of "semi-permanent" cosmetics. http://www. spcp. org/public_semi_permanent_makeup. htm (http://www. spcp. org/public_semi_permanent_makeup. htm)
