Beware, Vitamin Enhanced Drinks Can Make You Fat, says Dr. C. W. Randolph, Author of the Upcoming Book, From Belly Fat to Belly Flat

Beware, Vitamin Enhanced Drinks Can Make You Fat, says Dr. C. W. Randolph, Author of the Upcoming Book, From Belly Fat to Belly Flat

People trying to lose want to feel their best, says Dr. Randolph, but some of these new vitamin feel good drinks are packing back on the calories of dieters.

Jacksonville Beach, FL (PRWEB) July 30, 2007

People trying to lose want to feel their best, says the author of the upcoming book "From Belly Fat to Belly Flat" C. W. Randolph, Jr., M. D., R. Ph., "Most people trying to lose a few pounds want to be healthy and vital, not puny and listless as the pounds come off. At first glance it would seem that the new plethora of vitamin infused drinks -- such as Vitamin Water, SoBe Life Water, Airforce Nutrisoda and Propel Fitness Water - would be just what they need. Look again. There are real calories in all those nutrient-fortified sodas."

Before you sip your vitamins through a straw, consider this: your good health has suddenly become a big dollar business and that could put you at risk of being conned.

According to an article published in the July 24th issue of the Wall Street Journal, the explosion of nutrient-laced drinks reflects consumers' desire for more healthful choices than soda. These drinks' combined U. S. volume more that tripled from 2001 to2006, according to the Beverage Marketing Corp., compared to 5% growth for the U. S. beverage industry overall.

"These growth statistics tell me that a lot of health-conscious Americans are being duped," says Dr. Randolph. "Many of the nutrients touted to be in these drinks are present in such small amounts that they won't make a difference. And, these hyped 'healthy drinks' are sold at prices up to twice as high as that of plain bottled water."

So what's a well-intentioned, health-conscious individual supposed to do? "Very simply, eschew those hyped-up calorie-ridden health drinks, drink filtered or bottled water and take a good multi-vitamin and, also, a calcium-magnesium supplement. When it comes to water, drink at least eight 10 oz glasses a day. Drink a glass of water with each meal and, then, sip throughout the rest of the day. Although water contains no calories and may contain no micronutrients, it is an indispensable aid to digestion, nutrient absorption and waste-elimination. "

Dr. Randolph continues, "Water also impacts how your body metabolizes fat. Let me explain. One of the functions of the liver is to convert stored fat to energy. Another function of the liver is support kidney function. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has to do their work along with its own, lowering its total productivity. It then can't metabolize fat as quickly or efficiently as it could when the kidneys were pulling their own weight. If you allow this to happen, not only are you being unfair to your liver, but you're also setting yourself up to store fat."

Water and Vitamins equal 0 calories and a Healthier, Thinner Body says Randolph.

Study Finds Gene Variation Drives Effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate on Body Composition and Weight Loss

Study Finds Gene Variation Drives Effectiveness of Chromium Picolinate on Body Composition and Weight Loss

Groundbreaking nutrigenetic study from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Salugen, Inc. is first to find DRD2 gene influences efficacy of leading chromium nutritional supplement.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 29, 2007

Salugen (www. salugen. com), a leading personalized health and wellness company, announced today study results examining the importance of testing for the dopamine D2 receptor (DRD2) gene as an indicator of chromium picolinate treatment outcomes. Salugen's core technology platform involves nutrigenetic testing and nutrigenomics solutions. This core technology is behind its portfolio of DNA-customized nutritional products including GenoTrim (www. GenoTrim. com), SpaGen (www. SpaGen. com), and other products. Published in Gene Therapy and Molecular Biology, this groundbreaking nutrigenetic study demonstrates the importance of performing a genetic test and then customizing nutritional supplements for weight loss.

In this double-blinded, placebo-controlled study "Chromium Picolinate (CrP) a Putative anti-obesity nutrient induces changes in body composition as a function of the Taq 1 dopamine D2 receptor polymorphisms" 122 Caucasian subjects (17 men and 105 women; mean age 42.3 years) completed the study to evaluate the affect of the dopamine D2 receptor gene on the effectiveness of chromium picolinate on weight and body composition. All 122 subjects were genotyped for this gene variation and received a DEXA analysis which indicated body composition make up including lean tissue mass, fat, and bone mineral density. Half the group was given chromium picolinate (400 micrograms) and the other half a placebo. Daily the subjects recorded the number of steps taken and the caloric intake and weekly obtained a scale weight. The study indicated that prior to analyzing the genetic information (baseline) there was no statistical difference between the two groups. However, there was statistical significance in all of the weight and fat measures in the group that received chromium picolinate who carried the normal DRD2A2 allele, including change in fat weight (p < 0.041), change in body weight (p < 0.017), percent change in weight (p < 0.044), and body weight change in kilograms (p < 0.012), whereas no significance was found for any parameter in those subjects possessing a drd2 a1 allele. this suggests a possible explanation for some negative findings related to crp supplementation and indicates the importance of genotyping individuals prior to supplementation.

"Weight loss may be the least expensive, longest lasting and overall beneficial therapy for creating wellness, extending life, and improving your appearance. Comprehensive medical weight management programs are recognized by obesity experts throughout the world as the safest, longest lasting, and most effective method for weight control. This type of double-blinded, placebo-controlled study in genetics and nutrition is an important contribution to the field of genetic weight management," states Dr. M. J. Hajianpour, MD, PhD, FACMG, a Board-certified physician in Clinical Genetics and Clinical Cytogenetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics. He is the founding fellow of American College of Medical Genetics (www. acmg. net).

Dr. Kenneth Blum, a lead investigator in the study stated, "The cause for obesity is heterogeneous including factors present in the brain's reward circuitry. Because the DRD2A1 allele is associated with many parameters affecting weight including excess calorie intake, the presence of the allele will mask the positive effects of chromium picolinate. To overcome this genetic predisposition, we have demonstrated that including amino acid precursors or neurotransmitter synthesis promoters such as those included in the supplement GenoTrim will reduce cravings and, we predict, will improve the outcome of chromium picolinate in a broader population." Dr. Blum is a researcher at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the Chief Scientific Officer of Salugen, Inc.
Chromium Picolinate used in the study was Chromax (www. chromax. com), an ingredient offered by Nutrition21 (NASDAQ: NXXI) of Purchase, New York (www. nutrition21.com). The combination of chromium moieties with amino acid precursors or natural neurotransmitter synthesis promoters is protected by numerous U. S. patents exclusively licensed to Salugen, Inc.

Academic Institutions Leverage Wimba in Swine Flu Preparation Plans

Academic Institutions Leverage Wimba in Swine Flu Preparation Plans

Wimba Collaboration Suite™ Enables Real-Time, Live Access to Keep Campus Communities Connected

New York (PRWEB) September 9, 2009

Wimba® Inc., the education technology company that helps people teach people, announced today that colleges, universities and schools across the country are planning to leverage Wimba's collaborative software to prepare for a potential resurgence of the pandemic H1N1 influenza virus (Swine Flu). With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting an increase in cases coinciding with the return of students to campus, education leaders nationwide are putting comprehensive plans in place to not only protect their learning communities from the possibility of an outbreak, but also to ensure continuity of teaching and service.

It is paramount that Swine Flu preparedness includes consideration of a scenario in which a physical campus may be closed, or staff and students temporarily quarantined, but instruction continue without interruption. With Wimba Classroom™, instructors can present course material in a virtual classroom, without fear of spreading infection. Archives of this same material are easily created and exported as MP3 or MP4 files, then made immediately available for any ill student to access and review once they've recovered. Archived content will significantly reduce the impact on a student's academic recovery time.

The text chat, blended audio and video, application sharing and whiteboard capabilities of Wimba Pronto™--an academic-centric instant messaging system--enable learning communities to stay connected regardless of physical proximity. Office hours or study breaks can be held online and help-desk services can be delivered virtually. Student-to-student and instructor-to-student interaction is facilitated by the integration of Wimba Pronto with class rosters - ensuring critical time is not lost for students or instructors.

Wimba customers have already successfully activated their disaster recovery plans by utilizing Wimba collaboration and instant messaging technology. These examples highlight how Wimba might also be employed during a Swine Flu outbreak.

Staying Ahead of Disaster
Kansas State University has developed comprehensive online resources for faculty and staff on emergency preparation, featuring information on the use of the Wimba platform. The University of Utah recently produced and distributed a video entitled, "What If They Closed The Campus?" pointing its community to the tools available in the event of a disaster or outbreak such as Swine Flu. Available on YouTube (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=cLdb0QWEfVs (http://www. youtube. com/watch? v=cLdb0QWEfVs)), the video includes details about the use of course management systems and Wimba for uninterrupted communication. Dalhousie University used Wimba Classroom for Nova Scotia's Chief Medical Officer to update 150 members of the province's medical community about the Swine Flu outbreak.

"Wimba was the only technology that could ramp up almost immediately and be easily accessible by every physician in the province," said Phil O'Hara, Assistant Director of Academic Computing Services at Dalhousie University.

The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) holds regular online meetings among its 14 campuses to discuss its disaster preparedness initiatives using Wimba.

Preparedness Pays Off

In April, Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota relied on Wimba Classroom to continue course delivery after the campus was shut down for a month following severe flooding from the Sheyenne River. Last May, Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) in San Antonio turned to Wimba Pronto to communicate with students, faculty and administrators after a fire burned down its main administrative building, destroying the university's phone system.

"We were only closed one day," says Raquel Moncado, Instructional Technology Specialist at Our Lady of the Lake University. "Classes resumed right away because of Lake Online, the name we gave our Blackboard system, and Wimba. Many professors conducted classes online from home. We had the tools and we knew how to use them, so we were prepared."

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, several nursing classes at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center relied on Wimba and other online course technologies to help deliver instruction to its students, despite the displacement of many and the fact that several campus buildings were completely non-operational.

"No learning community is exempt from considering the impact of a Swine Flu outbreak. Although preventative measures are obviously key, being prepared with a robust plan to minimize any disruption of teaching or the delivery of services is imperative," said Carol Vallone, CEO and Chairman of the Board at Wimba. "We certainly hope no customer has to deploy its Swine Flu preparedness plan, but are pleased to be part of the solution when and if it becomes necessary."

About Wimba
Wimba is a leading provider of collaborative software for distance and blended learning. The Wimba Collaboration Suite, recently awarded the 2009 "Best Education Solution" CODiE award by SIIA, enhances learning, improves outcomes and increases student retention. By combining interactive technologies such as voice, video, podcasting, instant messaging, application sharing, polling and whiteboarding, learning communities are empowered with a unique collaborative environment that fosters dynamic student-to-instructor, student-to-student, and instructor-to-instructor interaction. Our seamless integration with leading course management systems ensures that users have a simplified and familiar workflow. Wimba. People Teach People. www. wimba. com

Cellufun Launches Mobile Pet myPhone Game; New Virtual Game Gives Consumers Free Alternative to Apple iPhone: Why Buy an iPhone When You Can Adopt a Virtual myPhone Mobile Pet?

For consumers who want similar innovative mobile entertainment content such as the iPhone from Apple, but do not want to invest heavily in a new phone or change carriers, mobile gaming portal Cellufun offers games and other entertainment content, for free. Its newest game, the MobilePet myPhone, allows users to care for, play with and feed the object of their affection. As with all of the company's entertainment content, the game is available to consumers at no cost and works on all Web-enabled handsets, as well as with all carriers.

NEW YORK (PRWEB) July 3, 2007

 What are MobilePets?

MobilePets are pet avatars that live inside your mobile phone. Like any pet, you must feed them, walk them, play with them and bathe them to keep them healthy and happy. MobilePet gamers are a large, worldwide social network, and MobilePet aficionados text-message each other and send their pets back and forth for visits all the time. MobilePet gamers are also in competition, and they score points and achieve rankings depending on how many activities they perform with their pet and how often they interact with their fellow MobilePet users. Cellufun has nearly 500,000 MobilePet owners worldwide.

"Creating MobilePet myPhone was a ton of fun," said Cary Torkelson, the creator of the MobilePet series and a long time Mac aficionado. "We took what we believed to be the essentials of the iPhone experience, virtualized it, and made it available to everyone, regardless of what phone they had, in a straightforward yet entertaining way."

MobilePet myPhone is the latest in Cellufun's suite of MobilePets including MobilePet Dog, MobilePet Pig, MobilePet Monkey, and MobilePet Penguin. Cellufun recognizes that many people would still like an iPhone and is giving users the ability to win one by playing MobilePet myPhone. More details can be found at www. cellufun. com/myphone (http://www. cellufun. com/myphone).

"Some folks will fork out hundreds of dollars for a new iPhone, but as cool as the device is, you need entertainment content to take advantage of its capabilities," said Steve Dacek, Cellufun's CTO. "We offer games, cartoons and even pets for pretty much any Web-enabled mobile phone, and our content works on hundreds of handsets, so you don't have to spend a dime to have a good time."

Free mobile content gains popularity

Survey Reveals 38 Million Americans Claim Identity Theft In Their Lifetime

Survey Reveals 38 Million Americans Claim Identity Theft In Their Lifetime

20% of U. S. households have a member who was violated by identity theft – - number of victims per year on the rise

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) December 6, 2010

A November 2010 study revealed that one would find a victim of identity theft in 19% of American households. And 12.5%, or 38 million American consumers, claim to have been have been a victim of ID theft. The results are part of the 2010 U. S. Consumer Study on Identity Theft, commissioned by IdentityHawk and fielded by Survey Sampling International.*

While 38 million U. S. citizens claim they have been victimized in their lifetime, research from Javelin Strategy & Research shows that 11.1 million Americans say they were ID theft victims in 2009.

The IdentityHawk study also revealed that better educated and married/living with a partner/divorced/widowed persons were more likely to have been a victim of identity theft. Results are as follows:

Education level/victims of identity theft:

High school or less: 9% of respondents
Some college/college: 15% of respondents

Marital status/victims of identity theft
Single: 10% of respondents
Married/living with partner: 13% of respondents
Divorced/widowed: 16% of respondents

The Javelin Annual Identity Protection Services Scorecard also shows a steady increase in identity theft since 2007 when 8.1 million people were victimized. That figure rose to 9.9 million in 2008, according to according to the Javelin results released in a published report: http://www. pymnts. com

Findings:
Ever been a victim of identity theft (IdentityHawk):12.5% yes = 38 million
Victim in past year (2007): 8.1 million
Victim in past year (2008): 9.9 million
Victim in past year (2009): 11.1 million

According to Phil Sandler, Spokesman for IdentityHawk. com, “We are seeing a steady recent increase in identity theft. It suggests that consumers need more preventative and predictive measures rather than just being able to take action after their identity has been breached. Further, we believe that the incident of identity theft is actually underreported.”

An FTC report confirms Sandler’s premise of under reported incidences. According to the FTC 2008 Consumer Sentinel Report, 65 percent of those who reported identity theft to the FTC did not report the crime to their local law enforcement agencies.

Utne Reader Honors Top Publications at 21st Annual Independent Press Awards

Utne Reader Honors Top Publications at 21st Annual Independent Press Awards

Utne Reader, the best of the alternative press, last night presented its annual Utne Independent Press Awards for outstanding journalism in 2009. The Utne Independent Press Awards recognize the excellence and vitality of alternative and independent publishing.

Washington, D. C. (Vocus) April 26, 2010

Utne Reader (http://www. utne. com), the best of the alternative press, last night presented 10 publications with Utne Independent Press Awards for outstanding journalism in 2009. The winners were announced during the Magazine Publishers of America-Independent Magazine Advisory Group (IMAG) conference at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Washington, D. C.

Orion won the highest honor, the General Excellence award. Utne Reader’s editors were impressed by Orion’s beautiful design, artful writing and ability to cover crucial environmental issues without overwhelming its readers or underestimating the gravity of its subject matter.

Other winners include:

Best Arts Coverage — The Journal of Music
Best Environmental Coverage — High Country News
Best Health/Wellness Coverage — Spirituality & Health
Best International Coverage — Virginia Quarterly Review
Best Political Coverage — The American Prospect
Best Social/Cultural Coverage — Brain, Child
Best Science/Tech Coverage — IEEE Spectrum
Best Spirituality Coverage — Portland
Best Writing — Boston Review

The Utne Independent Press Awards recognize the excellence and vitality of alternative and independent publishing. Utne Reader Editor in Chief David Schimke believes that independent journalists have raised the bar despite the current state of mainstream media.

“It’s clear that today’s best journalists and writers, who just a few years ago were working for daily newspapers or metropolitan weeklies, are finding a home for their best work in smaller, independent and alternative magazines,” Schimke says. “The quality of this year’s nominees is both a tribute to, and a direct reflection of, that phenomenon.”

Utne Reader’s editors select nominee publications through an extensive reading process and yearlong examination, rather than via a competition with entry forms and fees. In this way, the magazine honors the efforts of small, sometimes unnoticed publications that provide innovative, thought-provoking perspectives often ignored or overlooked by mass media.

The awards were presented at a dinner attended by publishers and editors from the independent press. A number of nominees were present, including Boston Review, The Chronicle of Higher Education, The Nation, Sojourners and Spirituality & Health.

For more information on the awards presentation, go to http://www. Utne. com/UIPA2010 (http://www. Utne. com/UIPA2010). Samples of work from the winners will run in the July-August issue of Utne Reader, on newsstands June 22.

HopeNetworks. org to Hold Candlelight Vigil to Remember COREY DOMINGUE

HopeNetworks. org to Hold Candlelight Vigil to Remember COREY DOMINGUE

Sunday, October 10 marks the first anniversary of the alcohol overdose death of Corey Domingue, a 19 year-old LSU Honors student. Alcohol overdose claims of 1000 College Students lives each year. Friends and concerned citizens are invited to join members of the Domingue family, students, and community advocacy groups to gather on the median of Bob Petit Road under the entrance to Tigerland, Sunday October 10, 2004 at 7pm in the evening for a brief service in memory of CoreyÂ’s life. All wishing to share a memory will be encouraged and welcomed to speak.

BATON ROUGE, LA (PRWEB) October 8, 2004

Alcohol is a leading related cause of death for youth under the age of 25. College Binge drinking can be fatal, and awareness of this fact can save lives. Heavy alcohol use affects more students than other drugs combined. More students drink than use cocaine, marijuana, or cigarettes combined. Today no warnings are provided to consumers advising of the potential for poisoning and other health concerns that contribute to the alcohol related deaths in the U. S. of more than 100,000 people each year. College drinking is an extremely serious health concern for parents and college administrators. College students often report consuming more than 10 drinks in a row. These are levels where most individuals will have passed out or become comatose. Ending myths and promoting truth about alcohol can save lives. This pattern of extreme consumption puts the drinker at risk for very serious problems, including alcohol poisoning. National studies show those in college aged 18-25 to be the largest consumers of alcohol in the country. Louisiana Emergency rooms report thousands of college students present themselves for emergency care from alcohol overdose each year.

Alcohol poisoning occurs when excessive amounts of alcohol depress nerves that control involuntary actions such as breathing and gag reflex (which prevents choking). A fatal dose of alcohol will eventually stop these functions. It is common for someone who consumed excessive amounts of alcohol to vomit because alcohol is an irritant to the stomach. The vomiting creates the danger of choking, which could cause death by asphyxiation in a person who is not conscious because of intoxication.

Critical Signs of Alcohol Poisoning

•Mental confusion, stupor, coma, or person cannot be roused

•Vomiting

•Seizures

•Slow breathing (fewer than eight breaths per minute)

•Irregular breathing (10 seconds or more between breaths)

•Hypothermia (low body temperature), bluish skin color, paleness

What to do if Alcohol Poisoning is suspected

•Know the danger signals

•Do not wait for all symptoms to be present

•Be aware that a person who has passed out may die

•If there is any suspicion of an alcohol overdose, call 911 for help. Don’t try to guess the level of drunkenness

Let us not allow CoreyÂ’s death and the suffering of the Domingue family to be forgotten. Talk to teenagers about binge drinking and alcohol poisoning. If alcoholism is in the family, the children have a greater risk of alcohol related problems. Predisposition to alcoholism should be discussed openly and often just as a family would discuss other hereditary health concerns with their children. Drinking before the age of 21 is a serious health risk and an illegal act. In CoreyÂ’s case, it was fatal. Louisiana lost a promising young man. The Domingues lost a son. LSU lost an honors student and a dedicated football fan.

“Alcohol deaths and other injuries like Cory’s overdose can be prevented, but it takes an honest and direct effort by all involved, Alcohol can literally poison you in one sitting, yet t hat information is unclear to the largest group of consumers, and those most at risk. We are hopeful that appropriate warnings on both alcohol products and point of sale locations will become a reality, after all college students can only prevent potential fatal injuries when they have all the facts.”

For more information about the Candlelight Vigil contact Samantha Hope-Atkins at 225.806.8552 or sam@werecover. org or Sharron Ayers, Louisiana Alliance to Prevent Underage drinking at 225.978.9929.

SEO Firm Launches Free Reprint Article Directory for Webmasters/Ezine Publishers

SEO Firm Launches Free Reprint Article Directory for Webmasters/Ezine Publishers

A new online article directory allows webmasters to find content for their websites and electronic newsletters. It also offers a place for writers and webmasters to publish their articles with links back to their websites.

Corona, NY (PRWEB) December 30, 2005

“Article marketing is in,” said Donald Nelson as he announced the launch of a new article directory, featuring free content for webmasters and ezine publishers.

Nelson, the head of the SEO Firm, A1-Optimization. com, http://www. a1-optimization. com (http://www. a1-optimization. com), said that, “good content and lots of incoming links from quality sites is the key to search engine positioning in today’s market," and added that his firm’s new directory, located at http://www. a1-optimization. com/articles (http://www. a1-optimization. com/articles), helps webmasters get the content they need and also provides them with a chance to get links to their website.

“It’s very simple,” he explained, “a webmaster who needs content can go to our directory and pick out articles in a variety of categories ranging from online business and web development to health, self-improvement and family issues.” These articles may be reproduced on any website, in electronic newsletters and even in print media as long as the author’s information, which typically includes a link to the author’s website, is kept intact.

The directory is designed to solve the problem of content hungry webmasters and ezine publishers who do not have the time to write their own articles.

The article directory also serves the interests of anyone trying to publicize a website. All they have to do is write an article related to their field of activity and add it to the article directory. If their article is published on another website they reap the benefit of a link to their website, which helps them in search engine rankings as well as by bringing additional traffic to their site.

“The benefit that a publisher gets from having his or her article appear on another website or in an ezine far exceeds the numerical importance of how many visits it brings or how it helps a site’s search engine position,” explained Nelson. He said that the most important aspect of article marketing is that it brings recognition to the writer, giving her a kind of “expert” status which is something that “money can’t buy.”

Nelson, whose own articles have been widely published on the Internet, hopes that the directory will give new writers a platform to launch their writing careers.

Visit A1-Optimization’s main page at http://www. a1-optimization. com (http://www. a1-optimization. com) and the article directory at http://www. a1-optimization. com/articles (http://www. a1-optimization. com/articles) for more information.

TrekDesk Announces “Movement Revolution” to Combat the Health Risks of Sedentary Lifestyles in America

TrekDesk Announces “Movement Revolution” to Combat the Health Risks of Sedentary Lifestyles in America

Thin or fat, individuals who are sedentary through the day face the same risks of diseases that are crippling our nation. TrekDesk has launched a Movement Revolution designed to educate Americans out of their chairs.

Phoenix, AZ (Vocus) October 28, 2010

“Who would you believe is more likely to develop heart disease during their lifetime, someone height weight proportionate who exercises daily or an overweight, sedentary individual?” asks Steve Bordley, CEO of TrekDesk. com. The answer surprises most that both are equally at risk for cardiovascular and a myriad of other diseases if they sit at a desk for most of the day. TrekDesk has launched a “Movement Revolution” designed to alert Americans to the health perils of sedentary lifestyles and to the growing body of scientific research that is re-tuning conventionally held exercise beliefs.

“While exercise is essential for good health, over time one cannot exercise away the health damage of eight hours spent sitting at a desk,” stated Bordley. “Keep going to the gym but avoiding the office chair and couch at home is actually more effective at extending life, boosting mood and preventing disease.”

Scientists are uncovering a litany of body defenses and mechanisms which depend on continual movement and 30-60 minutes in a gym or a 10 mile daily run is simply not enough protection when the rest of the day is spent sitting at work or at home.

While the health club industry and corporate wellness officers may cringe to hear that their regular exercising members who spend the rest of their day at a desk are technically (in the words of Dr. Marc Hamilton of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center) “exercising couch potatoes”, that message needs to be understood, accepted and acted upon.

“We have to re-engineer movement back into the equation to regain health. Our distant ancestors didn’t get up in the morning, push a rock around for an hour and spend the rest of the day sitting around the cave,” relates Bordley. “So it should not be a surprise that our bodies evolved over time distinct health mechanisms dependent upon movement throughout the entire day.”

Join the “Movement Revolution” to learn more about these studies on TrekDesk’s Facebook page at http://www. facebook. com/pages/TrekDesk-Treadmill-Desk/80743563805

TrekDesk is the first affordable, full sized, height adjustable work station which when added to an existing treadmill allows individuals the opportunity to walk at slow speeds while they work/study achieving 10,000 steps in as little as 3-4 hours. TrekDesk is currently available for sale online at TrekDesk. com for $479.00 including free shipping.

Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong Healing

Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong Healing

New book details ancient art of Qigong.

Fredericton, NB (Vocus) November 3, 2010

Renowned Qigong healer Master Yap Soon Yeong and psychology professor and Qigong trainer Chok C. Hiew team up to release the quintessential guide on the ancient art of Qigong – Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong Healing: Healing Self, Healing Others (published by iUniverse).

In Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong Healing, Yap and Hiew detail the meditative movements and practices that allow individuals to begin to heal on a physiological and psychological level. Readers are guided in how to rid the blocked negative energies that is often the root cause of pain, trauma, disease, aging and various chronic issues.

Qigong, a centuries-old Chinese system of physical and mental training, has seen a rise in popularity as other Eastern codifications, such as yoga and martial arts, continue to spread in Western societies. Yap and Hiew understand the attractiveness of alternative health care approaches. “Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong (CFQ) Healing stems from the esoteric Qigong tradition in which one actualizes one’s inherent self-healing mechanism to free the mind and body from pain and disease without any external input,” the authors write. “It is a therapeutic approach whose effectiveness in sustaining and extending life and overcoming most known diseases and genetic disorders has been demonstrated. Conventional medicine explains and treats diseases from a physical basis. Eastern holistic medicine goes deeper.”

About the Authors
Master Yap Soon Yeong is a renowned Qigong and meditation healer and the founder of Chaoyi Fanhuan Qigong (CFQ), an original energy medicine method that he teaches worldwide. His remarkable healing record is described in his biographic bestseller, Energy Medicine in CFQ Healing. He lives in Penang, Malaysia where he runs his famed CFQ Centre.

Chok C. Hiew, Ph. D., has been a psychology professor at the University of New Brunswick for more than 30 years. A skilled CFQ trainer, he has authored and published seven books on CFQ training. He has introduced CFQ to North American and international audiences in conference presentations and workshops since 1997. As a trauma specialist, he has also pioneered Qigong techniques internationally as training for those traumatized by exploitation, epidemics, armed conflict, chronic illnesses and natural disasters. Hiew grew up in Malaysia, went to school in Boulder, Colo. He currently lives in Canada.

Chesapeake Bay Crabcakes and Wild Oats Go Pink and Green

Chesapeake Bay Crabcakes and Wild Oats Go Pink and Green

Chesapeake Bay Crabcakes will supply Wild Oats with two new products: crab cakes and shrimp cakes made from wild harvested shrimp from Key West, Florida. Using catch and release nets, the purveyors will save the turtles and bring in the sweet, special shrimp in an "all green" method. Both products contain only healthy ingredients. No hydrogenated fats. This is a landmark partnership and represents Chesapeake Bay's ability to meet the special needs of customers and the public.

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) October 10, 2006

Astral Foods (dba) Chesapeake Bay Crabcakes and More and Wild Oats Natural Marketplace have teamed up to offer two all-natural products, crab cakes and shrimp cakes. Neither product contains any hydrogenated fats or oils, and are made with unbleached flour ingredients.

Tom Quinn, Vice President/Sales of Astral Foods says, “The development of products for Wild Oats demonstrates our ability to be challenged by our customers and because of our flexibility and resources, we are able to satisfy those needs to deliver products that meet changing customer demands.”

These two all-natural gourmet seafood products reflect a growing interest in better foods, pure and simple. Joseph Sabbagh, for Wild Oats says, “We’re so excited to partner with Astral Foods to offer these two healthy, flavorful products. We believe our customers will be coming back and back for more.”

The brilliant pink sweet shrimp, wild-caught off the coast of Key West, Florida are also “green.” The vessels which harvest the shrimp use by-catch reduction devices (BYRDS) and have the lowest by-catch ratio of any shrimp fleet in the world. Sea turtles are safely released. Cox’s Wholesale Seafood, purveyors of the All-American shrimp, fish only in federally approved waters and stay out of protected coral reefs and sea grass beds.

Astral Foods, the 25-year-old company has firmly established itself as a household name with its specialty line of handmade, hand-picked jumbo lump crab cakes and other all-natural ingredient gourmet seafood products.(www. cbgourmet. com).

Steve Cohen, CEO says, “We are so excited about this new product line produced exclusively for Wild Oats. We believe this will serve the needs of the all natural foods generation and shows our company’s ability to stay ahead of the curve.”
