The Wound Healing Center is a specialized program at Trinitas for wounds that have resisted healing for two months or longer.

The Wound Healing Center at Trinitas Hospital – already one of the most successful programs of its kind in the nation – has achieved a 98% healing rate for the fourth quarter of 2003, according to Praxis Clinical Services. The Wound Healing Center is a specialized program at Trinitas for wounds that have resisted healing for two months or longer.

“By using well-researched, proven techniques, our specialized team of physicians, nurses and foot specialists are able to provide total healing and relief for patients who previously thought their wounds were irreparable or would ultimately result in amputation,” says Peter Mlynarczyk, MD, Medical Director of the Center. “We are very proud of the 98 percent success rate, which is an indication of the expertise of our medical team and our high quality of care.”

In addition to its success rate, the Wound Healing Center also achieved a lower than expected length of healing time – 60 days versus a national average of 65. The three main types of wounds treated at Trinitas are pressure ulcers, venous ulcers and trauma wounds.

“I would like to congratulate Trinitas on an outstanding quarter, as well as an outstanding entire year,” said Jack Rollins, Chief Operating Officer of Praxis Clinical Services. In addition to the fourth quarter results, Trinitas also received an award for exceptional patient satisfaction at the Praxis Annual Meeting.

Praxis Clinical Services provides management services for the development, implementation and operation of Comprehensive Wound Healing Centers. These centers are designed as outpatient departments in hospitals and are committed to the successful treatment and prevention of chronic, non-healing wounds. Later this year, the Hospital will begin offering Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy through the Wound Healing Center. Patients receiving hyperbaric therapy are placed in a specially-designed chamber that administers a 100 percent oxygen-rich environment under slight pressure. Oxygen reaches the wound through the bloodstream, resulting in improved healing, greater blood vessel formation and reduced likelihood of infection. This treatment provides a non-invasive procedure for patients with difficult wounds, crush injuries, acute burns or diabetes-related ulcers.

Sixty-one percent of meeting planners attending the 13th Annual Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International's (HSMAI) Affordable Meetings® West Conference & Exposition at San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. on June 10-11, 2009, stated that they were engaged on Facebook, and 58 percent were members of LinkedIn. Networking and maintaining relationships were the top benefits cited. Just 13 percent said they were using Twitter.

"Technology is actively leveraged by event planners for a competitive edge, but professionals are consistently relying on tools that strategically engage customers and resources at a broad, in-depth and paced level, rather than provide small, bursts of rather impersonal contacts," stated Dr. James Houran of 20|20 Assessment™. "Event planners still emphasize personal attention as their core business practice, and this is consistent with the current and strong customer demand for enhanced customer service in this era of budget cuts and contingency planning."

Technology continues to be a top priority in 2009 with 70 percent of planners reporting an increase in technology use in meetings management and marketing. Of those respondents, 74 percent commented that the incorporation of the various technologies made their jobs easier. Thirty percent of planners also cited that they would be looking for event planning software suppliers at this year's exposition.

Making Profits in 2002 - a slow year for ERP

2002 has been a difficult year for the IT industry, being affected by recession and a decrease in investments. Despite this and a decrease in turnover, ABAS (www. abas. de) has managed to come out of the red for a ninth year running. Although this was a more moderate income than in previous years, it demonstrates careful cost management. The overall performance of the Karlsruhe software manufacturer was kEUR 5,928 in 2002, in comparison to kEUR 6,864 in 2001. The resulting figure from ordinary operations was kEUR 18. The equity capital at kEUR 2,506 remained almost unchanged when compared to 2001. The equity capital amounts to 80% of the balance sheet total. In comparison: medium-sized businessÂ’ in Germany have an average equity capital of only 18%. On the basis of excellent liquidity, ABAS is financially independent and finances itself using its own resources. The Board of Management and the Board of Directors left the shareholdersÂ’ meeting in 2002 after having made a unanimous decision. The annual shareholders' meeting approved a distribution of company profits as follows: 4 % for the common shares and 8 % for the preferred shares. The basis for valuation for the distribution is the nominal value of the share.

Continued Success with the Software Partner Network

A network of software partners is responsible for the sale of ABAS products. This method of sales proved very successful – for all parties involved. There were good results in the German speaking area, and also Spain and Hungary, during the reporting period. The expansion abroad in 2002 has certainly paid off, and will continue in the year 2003. It is because of this that ABAS was able to win over software partners in the expanding Asia-Pacific region in countries, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, China and Australia in 2003. Measuring quality in healthcare has always been difficult. To go beyond mere platitudes, accolades and hygiene factors means getting into specific clinical indicators.

"There are several indicators used worldwide to benchmark the quality of hospital care, such as MRSA infection rate and the time lag for commencement of antibiotic therapy," explains Dr S. Thanasekaran, Chief Medical Officer at ParkwayHealth, one of Singapore's premier private healthcare groups.

The "superbug" MRSA (Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) is a highly dangerous and drug resistant bacterium known to cause hospital-acquired infections. A low MRSA rate indicates greater effectiveness of infection control measures being implemented.

"For the first half of 2008, we have consistently achieved lower-than-target MRSA rate of 0.33 in our hospitals. This compares very favorably to the US national average of around 2.4 percent, as published in the American Journal of Infection Control," says Dr Thanasekaran.

Another indicator often used as a pointer for good hospital care is response time for the administration of emergency medication. The timely use of antibiotics in cases of pneumonia caused by bacteria, for example, can lower the mortality rate by as much as 15 percent.

"The current standard internationally is for antibiotic therapy to begin within four hours after admission. We have successfully kept above the 90th percentile mark even as we aim for 100 percent compliance. Again, this compares well to the US national average of around 80 percent," says Dr Thanasekaran.

An even sharper contrast can be seen for Ventilator-Associated Pneumonias. Patients cared for in Intensive Care Units often required artificial ventilation, which introduces the risk of ICU-acquired chest infections. These patients are seriously ill and additional hospital-acquired infections compromise their condition further. It has been estimated that between 15% and 40% of patients on mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours develop pneumonia.

In 2005, the average Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia rate in coronary care units in Singapore was 2.53 per 1000 ventilator days, compared to the pooled mean of 4.4 and pooled median of 4.0 respectively in the US National Nosocomial Infection Surveillance Report 2004.

Singapore's good showing is not limited to its private healthcare providers. The nation's public hospitals, too, have left their marks in such specialized fields as cardiology, gynecology and obstetrics.

The National University Hospital, one of the region's top teaching and medical research hospitals, has consistently garnered good reviews backed by statistics for its cardiology program.
Recently published indicators showed that NUH has up to 75 percent fewer heart failure mortalities within a 30-day period compared to its peers. Their re-hospitalization rate for heart failure patients, too, is significantly lower than the international standard.

Over at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) -- Singapore's largest maternity facility -- the perinatal mortality rate for fetuses 24 weeks and above stands at just 5.38 per 1,000 births -- one of the lowest in the world. This compares to eight in the UK and 10 in Australia.

"We have moved well beyond international benchmarks in some areas. For example, the current standard as set by the United Kingdom's Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology for emergency Caesarean sections is 30 minutes' interval time between the decision and time of delivery. Here at KKH, we have cut that lag time down to a mere seven to eight minutes," says A/Prof Tan Kok Hian, Chairman of KKH's O & G Division.

A member of the Vermont Oxford Network which collates information about the care and outcome of high-risk newborns, KKH's neonatal department is now placed in the best quartile amongst 600 neonatal intensive care units worldwide.

Singapore's steady climb up the medical ranks is no accident. Currently ranked sixth best in the world and best in Asia by the World Health Organization, the tiny nation-state has worked hard for its string of successes.

"Singapore's medical infrastructure has been well designed and our medical training is rigorous. Also, we have a medical audit system that helps us track our progress in various areas. This ensures that we constantly review our standards," shares A/Prof Tan.

Hawaii's rich diversity of plants and animals provides a wealth of diversity. This diversity will create a UH genetic biodiversity database of all Hawaii native plants, and animals to guarantee our future with respect for our common past.

New advanced transportation systems will focus on independent "green" walking communities, with new private and, public buses, and increased route coverage for all our seniors and children.

Development of advanced transportation systems for 100% independent transportation by island for Air, Land, Sea, and Rail.

Private and Public Partnerships will create over $100B+ of new business by Industry in the Hawaiian Islands with advanced transaction grids to share revenues, paydown taxes, and create a surplus to invest to ensure our future. All Hawaii islands surpluses can be used as a foundation for strength here in Hawaii, and as an example to the rest of the US.

Decentralized leadership of each islands county "wait list",and decentrallized control of planning will allow leaders by community to take ownership of and increase both the effectiveness and to reduce the wait time for planning and development of advanced "green" communities, and needed infrastructures to support current, and plan for solid future needs.

The specific focus of agribusiness will provide 100% of each islands Hawaii food production, distribution and 100% sustainable independence by island. The replanting, and regreening of all islands will heighten the tourist experience, and the aina of the land for the people of Hawaii. The "road to Hana" on Maui must be regreened and tropical including developing all park areas and setting aside lands with long term large scale koa reforestation projects for all islands. The beauty of our islands is unparalled, and needs to be replenished for a strong and beautiful future for our children.

Reduce Taxes for all ages and income groups, by increasing the minimum wage to $9.50 and the home exemption to $500k+ effectively doubling revenues to create a budget surplus of $1B+ for Hawaii. These funds will paydown real estate, and other taxes to reduce the impact on fixed income seniors, middle income wage earners, the young, and the poor.

New community urban city revitalization programs will include new technology, industry centers, transaction grids, multi-use buildings, walking communities, and low income housing with a goal of 100% independent services by community. New home incentives for owners to develop urban botanical gardens, victory backyard gardens including plants, vegetables, and native Hawaiian flowers will revitalize neigborhoods and balance in family life.

Entertainment infrastructure on the islands will include building new and updating existing sports/entertainment facilities by island to allow professional baseball, football, and soccer teams, movies, and world class concerts in Hawaii. An emphasis on PAL will bring both state, county and city workers closer together with the families of our islands. These are the huis which create our family structure by community and need to be nourished to sustain respect of the youth for the leaders in our state, the everyday heros the moms, dads, grandpas, and grandmas, the ohana anties and uncles.

The goal of creating 100% energy independence by Hawaiian island can be achieved using reliable, low cost solar tube technology with production capabilities of 50 MWe per tube, 4 tubes per island will create 250MWe+ per island meeting the stated goal of 100% energy independence by island, complementing existing infrastructure. The power will be used to create desalination, and pumping facilities to regreen all our communities.

After recycling, new advanced waste management techniques with a 500' rotating pipe can safely reduce and separate the islands waste volume significantly.

Shredded, recycled waste tires will create new environmentally friendly rubber sidewalks, driveways, and guard rails on all islands.

A new financial services in Hawaii, including a new Hawaii Stock Exchange (HSX) with partnerships with all major US, EEC, and Asian stock exchanges will create a new multibillion dollar industry here.
