Why Have We Become a Prozac Nation?

Why Have We Become a Prozac Nation?

Pills have become a way of life.

Malibu, CA (PRWEB) July 14, 2006

Without a doubt, our world has become more complicated. Stress, anxiety and insomnia have become a way of life for many of us, and in turn, we are all reaching for pills to alleviate the symptoms.

When did this trend begin? And as a result, how many of us are now taking medications that we have tried to stop -- without success?

Only three years ago, Alesandra Rain, co-founder of Label Me Sane, was addicted to a cocktail of medications. She was not someone who doctor-shopped or took them other than how they were prescribed. But over a ten-year period, she watched her health deteriorate.

“I was prescribed a tranquilizer first, as I couldn’t sleep,” states Rain. “As time went on my body grew accustomed to the medication and I needed more. By the end, I was on seven different drugs and I could no longer sleep at all,” concludes Rain.

This is a common occurrence, as nearly half the public are on at least one medication, with many on multiple drugs to diminish their anxiety, depression and insomnia. The use of drugs such as Prozac, Paxil, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Celexa and Cymbalta are common occurrences. But also what is used even more frequently is the tranquilizer class of medications, such as Ativan, Ambien, Xanax, Klonopin and Valium. Unfortunately, the sedative class medications have a high addiction rate and can be extremely dangerous to just quit.

Alesandra sought help to withdraw from her medications, and when her efforts proved unsuccessful, she quit cold-turkey in a treatment center. It was the horrific withdrawals that drove her to found an organization to help others, while also working with doctors and researchers to develop a program that would assist others with a gradual step-down off the meds.

“It has been the most rewarding experience,” states Rain. “Last year alone we helped thousands of people all over the United States and on four continents, and the best part is that the supplements we use were specifically designed to support brain function and to help the body minimize the withdrawals,” concludes Rain.

This is a silent epidemic, as most will not admit they are taking a behavioral drug. Yet it is common for individuals to express a loss in their spirituality, creativity and cognitive function.

Rain’s experience on the medications and her journey back to health is chronicled in her novel "Deeds of Trust." She is an international speaker and author who has dedicated her life to help others avoid the life threatening withdrawals she suffered.

Team BodyHealth Athletes Storm To Ironman World Titles

Team BodyHealth Athletes Storm To Ironman World Titles

Team BodyHealth (http://www. bodyhealth. com/html/biobuilde/team-biobuilde. asp) athletes claim outstanding victories at the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona.

Clearwater, FL (PRWEB) October 18, 2009

Team BodyHealth (http://www. bodyhealth. com/html/biobuilde/team-biobuilde. asp (http://www. bodyhealth. com/html/biobuilde/team-biobuilde. asp)) members, Cherie Gruenfeld and Kevin Moats stormed to victory in their age-groups at the Ford Ironman World Championship in Kona on October 10, 2009. As previous winners, both Cherie and Kevin credit their use of Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP)® for their consistent success.

Standing by to offer congratulations was fellow Team Bodyhealth member and MAP spokesperson, the legendary 6-time Ironman World Champion, Dave Scott who said of their victories, "They were truly inspirational. Cherie's Ironman conquests are staggering! She is defying the hurdles of aging and each year is able to race extraordinarily well. Kevin is just plain tough! He has an uncanny ability to dominate his age group year in year out. Without exception, he blasted his competition in this year's race."

Cherie Gruenfeld led the 65-69 age-group from start to finish, setting a new course record and finishing over 2 hours ahead of her nearest rival in a time of 13:22. This victory gives her an astonishing ninth World Championship title. Reflecting on the race she says, "In preparing for Kona this year, I made a few minor changes to my training plan, taking a bit more rest while still putting together two or three days of key training back-to-back each week. Doing this, and being on a regular regime of MAP, I was able to get in some quality training. And it paid off with a solid 1st place win and a new course record in the W65-69. Now I'm using MAP as part of my recovery plan."

Kevin Moats fought off some very strong challenges in the 55-59 age-group to win in a time of 10:33, giving him his third World Championship title. Coming out the water in sixth place, Kevin clawed his way up to first place on the bike leg and then maintained his lead on the run. As a long-time MAP user, Kevin needed its nutritional support more than ever in the grueling race conditions. He says, "The conditions were the toughest I remember in 20 years. Headwinds most of the day on the bike and no cloud cover on the bike or run. Hot and hotter. I was fried off the bike, and shuffled each aid station pouring a litre bottle of cold water over my head each stop." The Team BodyHealth athletes are both members of the MAP Winners Circle (http://www. bodyhealth. com/html/biobuilde/winners_circle. asp (http://www. bodyhealth. com/html/biobuilde/winners_circle. asp)).

To finish a grueling Ironman course is a true test of endurance requiring a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. One of the reasons that Team BodyHealth members are so consistent is because MAP is 2 to 5 times more effective and absorbed 4 to 12 times faster than meat, fish, soy or whey. Master Amino Acid Pattern (MAP) is 100% absorbed within 23 minutes and is utilized to build body proteins. No other source of protein or amino acid can compare. This unique patented formula of the essential amino acids was created in the exact ratio and pattern-MAP for the human body to optimize endurance and protein recovery and minimize injury. Leading systems management software provider rolls out latest version of IT management software.

Topeka, KS (PRWEB) August 7, 2005

INSYSTEK® today announced the release of version 4.0 for both INSYSTEK® Inventory Manager and for their entire range of Agentless™ IT management solutions.

“We’re pleased to be able to offer the newest release of our systems management software.” says Alex Turner, CEO of INSYSTEK. “Customers will find that we have listened; and included some brand new functionality and features.”

“Software asset management (SAM) is an area of growing focus amongst organizations, as they come to understand that good SAM can significantly lower costs and reduce risk. With particularly software compliance a dominant issue in the industry, our offering gives customers powerful software asset management tools like software tracking, software usage and license compliance capabilities.” Turner explains. Among the other areas that INSYSTEK addresses in the new release are, improved software tracking, enhanced reporting features, an updated graphic user interface, and various other feature enhancements and additions.

The latest release encompasses the full range of INSYSTEK® solutions, and these include INSYSTEK® Inventory Manager (auditing), INSYSTEK® Control Center (auditing, software distribution), and the INSYSTEK® NSMC (auditing, software distribution, performance monitoring). The complete range of management solutions provide administrators with the ability to easily perform system audits, software distributions and monitor their networked environment (servers and desktops) for real time performance and availability data.

INSYSTEK® Inventory Manager is the first tier in the range of IT management solutions, a dedicated auditing solution for the Windows environment that enables the discovery, auditing and management of remote systems on a network. Among the many features that INSYSTEK Inventory Manager 4.0 has to offer organizations are software tracking, license compliance, software usage, historical tracking, and change management – with all data stored in a central database repository for quick and easy access to critical data as and when it’s needed.

The range of INSYSTEK® IT management solutions do not require the installation of an agent on the remote system at all. “We continue to develop our software based upon our Agentless™ approach to systems management,” outlines Turner, “we do not require any of our code to be installed on the remote system in any fashion, which enables us to implement our solution very rapidly, even in the largest and most complex of computing environments. Our customers realize verifiable savings right out of the box with our quick implementation times and the fact that our software is easy to use, without the intensive - and certainly expensive - product training that a lot of competitor products require on an on-going basis.”

National Health Disparities Conference Wraps up with Creative Approaches, Expectations for New Healthcare Reform

National Health Disparities Conference Wraps up with Creative Approaches, Expectations for New Healthcare Reform

Keynote Speakers, Presenters and Panelists at the Fourth Annual Conference on Health Disparities See the Affordable Healthcare Act and Private Investment Partnerships as First Steps to Ending Health Disparities

Philadelphia, PA (Vocus) November 15, 2010

Focusing on the disparities in the quality of health care across demographic groups, the Fourth Annual National Conference on Health Disparities brought together White House officials and national and local healthcare executives to address a series of key questions about non-medical determinants of health quality and to recommend strategies to bring more equitable healthcare access to the underserved. The determinants discussed at the four-day-long conference, which began November 10, 2010 and concluded Saturday, November 13, 2010, included education levels, health literacy, poverty, public safety, community design, access to care, environmental quality and personal, government and corporate responsibility.

The conference was chronicled by a diverse group of more than 30 students from six colleges and universities, who posted daily blog accounts of their experiences and perceptions leading up to, and during, the conference. Blog posts and responses can be viewed at http://www. buildinghealthycommunities2010.com.

Melody Barnes, Director of the Domestic Policy Council for the Obama Administration, delivered the luncheon keynote on Thursday, November 11, and addressed the issue of preventive care and how the new healthcare reform policies will ensure access to all Americans. Barnes noted, “When it comes to the debate about healthcare access and disparities among Americans, sometimes the ‘thing’ isn’t the ‘thing.’ Sometimes, the underlying issues are what need to be addressed, as opposed to the concept, as a whole. In order to better our circumstances within the grossly affected populations, as it relates to health, we must address and build partnerships in bettering food/consumption services, and neighborhood development and design, while building ‘walkable’ communities and encouraging physical activity.”

In her remarks, Barnes also focused attention on the Pennsylvania Fresh Food Financing Initiative, managed by The Food Trust, The Reinvestment Fund and the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, and their significant strides in combating obesity and improving food access for all Pennsylvanians. As of June 2010, the Fresh Food Financing Initiative has provided funding for 88 fresh-food retail projects in 34 Pennsylvania counties, creating or preserving more than 5,000 jobs.

Hon. James E. Clyburn, House Majority Whip, U. S. Congress, South Carolina, spoke on Friday, November 12, and began his remarks by describing the recently passed Health Reform Bill as “the Civil Rights issue of the 21st century." Clyburn claimed that the new law will end discriminatory practices against people with pre-existing conditions and projected that it will reduce the federal deficit by $123 billion in its first ten years, and by $1.23 trillion, by year twenty.

Clyburn said, “The Health Reform Bill has been demonized by the right wing, and in order for there to be a change in policy, and coverage for all Americans, it is critical we tell the truth about the legislation, because all of us benefit from its provisions."

Later in the day, the panel titled “Using public and private equity investment to strengthen and sustain our communities: Can we strategically invest our way out of health disparity and into health equity?" engaged healthcare professionals, investment decision-makers, elected officials and community activists from across the country in discussing the macro - and micro-economic impact of investing in healthcare delivery, including expectations of better outcomes, safety, service and lower costs.

Dr. Denis Cortese, director, Arizona State University, Health Care Delivery and Policy Program, Tempe, AZ, spoke of investment beginning with a new vision for healthcare; looking at people as “assets” and evaluating the model’s effectiveness by measuring outcomes through long-term return on investment. Cortese divulged: “Investment opportunities for healthcare begin with a new model of care, education, social circumstance and research in genetics and genomics. In Philadelphia, if one community agrees to engage the sickest people, to move away from the typical insurance model, and to work with this segment in their homes, we would see the greatest return on our investment. It has proved to be a worthwhile effort in other areas of the world.” He continued, “Investment in community-based initiatives is the key to change.”

The conference's final roundtable discussion engaged Congressional leaders, including Hon. Donna Christensen, MD, US Congress, US Virgin Islands; Hon. Michael Honda, chair, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, Fifteenth District, California; Hon. Chaka Fattah, chair, Congressional Urban Caucus, U. S. Congress, Second District, Pennsylvania and Hon. Donald Payne, U. S. Congress, Tenth District, New Jersey. Key points from their discussion included the need to protect the Health Reform Bill from the new Republican Congressional majority, which is threatening to repeal the legislation; the need to view healthcare as a right and to view health equity as a central goal of the reform process; the need to create school-based health centers; and the need for all government agencies to partner together to ensure that the national health policy is universally adopted.

SinuCleanse Says Options for Safe and Effective Treatment of Cold and Flu Symptoms Exist, Despite Recent Product Recalls In The Category

SinuCleanse Says Options for Safe and Effective Treatment of Cold and Flu Symptoms Exist, Despite Recent Product Recalls In The Category

SinuCleanse Reminds Consumers That Nasal Irrigation with a Saline Solution, Shown in Clinical Research to be Effective for Easing Congestion and Sinus Pain, Can Provide a Safe Alternative as Incidences of Cold and Flu Continue Into Summer

Madison, WI (PRWEB) June 25, 2009

Despite the voluntary recall of Zicam® nasal swabs and nasal gels following FDA warnings and the recall last year of OTC pediatric cough and cold medication after warnings against their use in young children, SinuCleanse (http://sinucleanse. com), the nation's leading manufacturer of neti pots, says options for safe and effective treatment of cold and flu symptoms still exist.

According to the company, one of the most effective and safest is nasal irrigation with an all-natural saline solution.

The practice, which dates back hundreds of years to Ayurvedic medicine, is traditionally conducted with a neti pot to wash out the nasal passages and sinuses with a saline solution. It is used for everything from general sinus health to alleviating sinus pain, and can decrease congestion and reduce allergies.

While there is no clinical evidence to suggest that nasal washing can help prevent contracting a flu virus, and the CDC does not include nasal washing in its recommendations for preventing infection with the flu, ample clinical research has demonstrated that using a saline solution to irrigate sinuses is a safe and effective way to alleviate sinus pain, reduce congestion, hasten the resolution of sinus symptoms and even prevent the recurrence of colds and the flu, with adults and children.

According to a study published in the American Academy of Pediatrics medical journal, AAP Grand Rounds ("Isotonic Nasal Saline Is Beneficial in the Management of Rhinitis in Children"), nasal saline wash hastens the resolution of rhinitis symptoms during uncomplicated acute cold or flu and prevents reappearance of rhinitis in children up to 10 years of age.

Additionally, a recent study published in the Archives of Otolaryngology (Efficacy of Isotonic Nasal Wash (Seawater) in the Treatment and Prevention of Rhinitis in Children) found that nasal isotonic saline application can prevent reappearance of cold and flu in children.

Dr. Diane G. Heatley, founder of Med-Systems, which manufacturers the SinuCleanse Neti Pot and SinuCleanse Squeeze™, says SinuCleanse offers a safe alternative to drug-based products for treatment of cold and flu symptoms.

"SinuCleanse's all-natural nasal wash provides safe and effective sinus relief - nasal washing has been used for centuries and recently this practice has been clinically proven to reduce the frequency and symptoms of cold and flu," says Dr. Heatley, who is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in Madison, where she practices pediatric otolaryngology. "Because it is a pure saline-based solution, there is no risk of side effects such as loss of smell; and because it is a wash, and not a spray, it provides immediate and continued relief."

While using a neti pot with young children is not practical and not possible with infants, Dr. Heatley in conjunction with SinuCleanse has developed Kids Mist™, a spray bottle producing an ultra-fine saline solution mist that is easy to aim and that does not require touching the inside of the child's nose. Kids Mist also features a proprietary anti-back wash valve that prevents contamination.

Kids Mist includes a three week supply of saline solution and is available at drug and mass retail outlets nationwide, along with the SinuCleanse Neti Pot and Squeeze.

Unique Approach to Yoga Suits Athletes

Football, hockey and basketball players don't beat down the doors of yoga studios. While athletes know greater flexibility aids performance, few embrace yoga's perceived traditions and lifestyle. Football, hockey and basketball players don't beat down the doors of yoga studios. While athletes know greater flexibility aids performance, few embrace yoga's perceived traditions and lifestyle. A unique blend of fitness and yoga called YogaFit combines balance, strength, flexibility, and power into a fitness format that is user-friendly and understandable--and is particularly effective for athletes who need to round out their strength routines. Taught in health clubs around the world, YogaFit is outlined for athletes in an upcoming second edition of Beth Shaw's YogaFit (Human Kinetics), to be released in January.

Through YogaFit, athletes can still reap the benefits of yoga without changing their lifestyle. "While traditional yoga has much to offer, it isn't necessary to speak Sanskrit, chant, or even become vegetarian to enjoy the multidimensional benefits of this ancient practice," says author Beth Shaw. "You don't have to change your life to receive the rewards."

Those rewards include improvements in health, performance, and mental acuity. Athletes practicing YogaFit can reduce the risk of injury through a greater mind-body connection, according to Shaw. Additionally, better breathing patterns learned through YogaFit create a more effective metabolic exchange during all physical activities. "YogaFit also offsets the unevenness of other exercise programs by offering a complete and balanced mind-body workout for all muscle groups and increasing endurance, willpower, and discipline by working not only your body, but also your mind," Shaw explains.

The new edition of Beth Shaw's YogaFit includes in-depth instruction, illustrated poses, and focused workouts for specific sports. Shaw also provides new information on warming up and cooling down, building core strength and stability, healthful eating, and integrating YogaFit principles into daily life.

Gaithersburg, MD (PRWEB) December 29, 2009

National Institute For Alcohol Recovery (NIFAR®) is introducing a new version of its highly acclaimed Restore® program, which provides immediate support and practical advice to family members of alcohol addicts. The updated, digital format is now available online via high-speed streaming audio and downloads for an iPod® or mp3 player. This convenient new format gives loved ones instant support, anytime or anywhere.

Millions of people worldwide experience turmoil while living with a problem drinker. Daily interaction with an alcoholic can be overwhelming and takes a dramatic toll on one’s emotions, finances, health, and even safety. In fact, alcohol has been a factor in marital violence caused by 57% of men and 27% of women(1). Further, people who abuse alcohol are about twice as likely to be divorced than those who do not(2). Restore helps loved ones see things clearly while it provides specific action plans to promote positive change.

Dr. Thomas Goldbaum, board-certified cardiologist and member of the NIFAR medical advisory board stated, “Traditionally, physicians have had few recovery options to recommend without sacrificing patient privacy. I believe Restore is a highly beneficial program. Now, we can quickly refer it to family members for instant support in total privacy,” said Goldbaum.

The Restore re-launch comes at a critical time. Alcohol addiction is now the number one health problem in the US and in more than forty countries worldwide(3,4). Further, untreated addiction costs the US $400 billion a year – which is six times the cost of treating heart disease and diabetes, and four times the cost of treating cancer(5).

However, Restore is reducing this social and economic impact by helping family members support the alcoholic in recovery. Further, NIFAR offers a breakthrough recovery program called Regenerate®. This breakthrough self-help and coaching program is based on the latest research of neuroplasticity – the retraining of the brain to reverse alcohol addiction.

The NIFAR website has also been completely redesigned to be a comprehensive center for alcohol education, recovery, and support. Nifar. com is an invaluable resource for alcoholics, as well as schools, hospitals, and churches that seek to aid problem drinkers and support alcohol education. To learn more, please visit www. nifar. com. Or contact Kamran Loghman, Executive Director, at 301.216.2220.

About Restore®

This breakthrough self-help and coaching program is a first-of-its-kind in family support for alcoholics. The program may be used as a stand-alone solution or as a complement to psychotherapy or 12 step meetings. All accompanying materials are professionally produced, straightforward, and easy to use – which effectively empowers those suffering with a problem drinker to overcome desperation and chaos. To learn more about Restore, Youth Awareness, and alcohol addiction in general, please visit www. nifar. com.

About NIFAR®

NIFAR is an organization of devoted recovery experts and addiction researchers. Its goal is to advance recovery with the latest proven techniques. In addition to Regenerate, NIFAR offers a family support program called Restore® that provides effective tools for loved ones to cope with the challenges of recovery. Also, NIFAR has a fun and informative Youth Awareness program that gives teens vital information to help them make smart decisions. The tone of each program is positive and uplifting, and they all convey enthusiasm for the participant’s future. Further, each daily segment reinforces empowerment, healing, and lasting change. Historic Office Building Creatively Transformed Into Luxurious AMES—Boston’s Newest Hotel

Historic Office Building Creatively Transformed Into Luxurious AMES—Boston’s Newest Hotel

Tishman Managed Myriad of Details and Complexities of Conversion and Historic Restoration of Boston’s First Skyscraper

Boston, Mass. (PRWEB) March 2, 2010

Tishman Construction Corporation (http://www. tishman. com/) of Massachusetts (TCC-MA) recently completed the renovation and restoration of the historic Ames Building, transforming it into the luxurious Ames (http://www. tishmanconstruction. com/index. php? q=projects/historic/ames), a 114-room boutique hotel incorporating high design and operated by Morgans Hotel Group. Ames is located at One Court Street, just off Washington Mall in the heart of downtown Boston’s Financial District, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market.

Constructed in 1889, the 14-story Ames Building was Boston’s first skyscraper. The masonry load-bearing building is the second-tallest masonry building in the country. It was designed by Shepley Rutan & Coolidge in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, so named for famed architect H. H. Richardson, who gave his buildings fanciful details and a distinctive roofline overhang. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

After a succession of owners, the unique building was purchased by Normandy Real Estate Partners and Morgans Hotel Group, redesigned by the Rockwell Group in collaboration with Morgans’ in-house design team, and thoroughly repaired, renovated and upgraded by construction manager, Tishman Construction.

Challenges and Solutions
To preserve this building and transform it into a premier, contemporary hotel, Tishman met a series of challenges in collaboration with the architects on the project. These challenges consisted of preserving and restoring historical aspects of the interiors, including ornate period details, façade restoration, structural and mechanical upgrades, and meeting the client’s accelerated timetable.

“Teamwork and creative collaboration were the keys to completing this fast-paced project, in which we preserved the integrity of the building while creating gracious hospitality space,” said Tom Erickson, Senior Vice President of TCC-MA. “We’re very pleased with the result of the efforts of the entire team and are proud to have renovated and restored this important historic building.”

Tishman Construction Corporation
In business for 112 years, Tishman Construction Corporation is a privately held firm headquartered in New York City and having operating units located across the United States and in the United Arab Emirates. Known for successfully managing the complexities (http://www. tishmanconstruction. com/index. php? q=services) of construction, innovative approaches to building (http://www. tishmanconstruction. com/index. php? q=services), and sustainable-building leadership (http://www. tishmanconstruction. com/index. php? q=services), Tishman is responsible for the construction of more than 450 million square feet of space, incorporating facilities of every size and type, including arts and culture, commercial, convention centers, education, gaming, government, healthcare, hospitality, residential, retail, sports and leisure, technology and transportation. TCC ranks # 2 in the nation on Building Design & Construction’s Top Construction Managers list and ranks highest in the nation for green construction (http://www. tishmanconstruction. com/index. php? q=sustainability), since approximately 70% of its projects are sustainable.

Black Church Group to Help Bury Unclaimed Victims of Hurricane Katrina, Especially Children and Elderly

Black Church Group to Help Bury Unclaimed Victims of Hurricane Katrina, Especially Children and Elderly

The National Black Church Initiative will work with state and local and authorities and Hannah Angel Center to offer comfort to both the living and the dead. The NBCI is headed by Rev. Anthony Evans of Washington, D. C.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) September 17, 2005

The National Black Church Initiative will work with state and local and authorities and Hannah Angel Center to offer comfort.

The Reverend Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative, like other religious leaders, believe that the role of the church in the midst of this crisis is to offer comfort to both the living and the dead. NBCI is working with other faith communities to extend GodÂ’s love to the families who have experienced death during this national disaster. We want to make sure that everyone receive the respect, dignity, the love of God and a decent burial for those individuals who may not have had any relatives or in the midst of confusion of this crisis, the next of kin is unaware that death has occurred. Therefore, these individuals may remain unclaimed; however the process of the last rites must go forward. NBCI is working with local and state officials and a host of faith-based communities (Christians, Muslims, Jewish and other religious leaders) to assure proper burial procedures are carried out with the highest amount of human dignity.

Rev. Evans says “this is a difficult task, but it is the proper and correct role to play to guarantee God’s eternal love for all who remain unclaimed but not forgotten by their fellow human beings. This is the holy act of the church and we intend to see that it is fulfilled properly and with dignity.”

The Hannah Angel Center out of Atlanta, Georgia and NBCI Baby Fund will work hand in hand to provide the most delicate and precious burial service for children who go unclaimed.

Hannah Angel Center provides the level of expertise to handle this delicate task of providing funeral service and burial to children who had either been abandoned or lay unclaimed during this disaster. We are grateful to the center for the great work they provide to our “small humanity”

We are asking the public to send their donations to either of the two sites to assist us in this act of love.

About the National Black Church Initiative

The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI) is a coalition of 16,000 African-American and Latino churches working to eradicate racial disparities in healthcare. It is a faith-based health organization dedicated to providing critical wellness information and pre-screening to all of its members. The African-American community ranks first in eleven different health risk categories. NBCIÂ’s purpose is to partner with national health officials to provide health education, reduce racial health disparities, and increase access to quality healthcare.

About Hannah Angel Center

In recognition of "Safe Place for Newborns Act", our mission is to provide a safe place for pregnant women and their unborn child as well as the newborn that has been abandoned. We will empower not only women, but also men through nurturing and education of the whole person.

Maintain, Don’t Gain During the Holidays

Maintain, Don’t Gain During the Holidays

A Few Simple Steps Can Help You Avoid Mindless Eating This Holiday Season

Washington, DC (Vocus) November 21, 2009

As the holidays approach, so do the celebrations, cookies, and cocktails that make seasonal indulgence almost irresistible. Of course, these indulgences often come with a side of weight gain. Luckily, there are ways to enjoy the holiday season without needing to go on a diet come New Years.

“Many of us focus on limiting our food or trying to fit in more activity to maintain our weight during this season. Research suggests that being more mindful of what is going on around you can actually allow you to enjoy holiday favorites while keeping your weight in check,” said Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak, registered dietitian and Director of Health and Wellness at the International Food Information Council Foundation, during a special Foundation Food & Health Survey Web cast today.

Brian Wansink, PhD, author of the best-selling book, Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think, and Director of Cornell University’s Food and Brand Lab, presented several unique tips to help avoid weight gain over the holidays.

Wansink’s tips include:
Use smaller plates. When you serve yourself using the smaller plate, you will be serving yourself 20 percent less, but still feel like you ate an entire plate of food. Pre-serve your food from the stove or counter instead of serving bowls on the table. If the food is constantly in front of you, you’re more likely to eat more of it. Use the “half plate” rule. Fill half of your plate with fruits, vegetables, and salad. Put whatever else you want on the other half. When pouring a drink, consider using a tall, skinny glass instead of a short, wide one. You will pour less and drink less.

“Most of us overeat because of family and friends, packages and plates, names and numbers, labels and lights, colors and candles, shapes and smells, distractions and distances, cupboards and containers,” Wansink says, “but I want people to see that making small changes in their kitchens and routines can make all the difference with no real sacrifice.”

The International Food Information Council Foundation’s 2009 Food & Health Survey (http://www. foodinsight. org/Resources/Detail. aspx? topic=2009_Food_Health_Survey_Consumer_Attitudes_toward_Food_Nutrition_and_Health) suggests that regardless of the holidays, most people (78 percent) are trying to lose or maintain their weight primarily by changing the amount or type of food they eat or by exercising. Unfortunately, they say they are most often discouraged by not seeing results quickly enough or having a lack of willpower. Reinhardt Kapsak adds, “Having a healthy weight and active lifestyle is a gift that you can give to yourself and your family this holiday season. These tips can help people overcome some of the everyday barriers when it comes to achieving their weight loss goals.”

For more tips and information, including slides from the Web cast, please visit the holiday weight management resource page on our new Web site www. foodinsight. org. For interviews with Brian Wansink, Foundation staff, or copies of the research reports please contact Eric Mittenthal or Jania Matthews at 202-296-6540.

The International Food Information Council Foundation’s mission is to effectively communicate science-based information on health, nutrition, and food safety for the public good. Rockin’ Nutrition Show at Mamapalooza Outdoor Extravagana

Rockin’ Nutrition Show at Mamapalooza Outdoor Extravagana

NYC Moms & Kids Rock Out in the Name of Healthy Eating!

New York, NY (Vocus) May 21, 2010

The New York City-based Rockstar Nutritionist Jill Jayne is bringing her rock ‘n roll nutrition show, Jump with Jill, to this year’s 7th Annual Mamapalooza Outdoor Extravaganza taking place May 23rd. Jump with Jill is a new answer to childhood obesity prevention, formatted as a kid-appropriate rock ‘n roll concert with healthy eating and exercise messages. The Rockstar Nutritionist’s performance will take place on May 23rd, at 3:45-4:30 PM, at Riverside Park South - Pier I @ 70th Street and the Hudson River.

“I'm so thrilled to be a part of the Mamapalooza lineup,” says Jayne, a Registered Dietitian (RD) and accomplished musician. "It's not just a personal honor; it means bringing healthy habits onto the main stage. It’s time for health education to rock."

Since Jump with Jill's inception four years ago, the show has reached 100,000 kids nationwide. Kids can continue to rock out with healthy eating messages from Jill’s CD, Get Me Goin’, featuring Top 40-sounding hits about calcium and bone health, drinking water, and the importance of breakfast. Both the CD and interactive show are a production of Note to Health], Jill’s company that specializes in creating and delivering interactive media about health to kids and families. She has established herself as an expert in creating and delivering interactive media about health with appearances at regional and national conferences, and featured in news outlets across the country, including Today's Dietitian, NPR, The Washington Post, and PBS. To learn more about the shows, sample CD tunes or follow Jill’s blog, visit http://www. jumpwithjill. com].

Both the music and interactive show address an urgent need to connect with kids when it comes to overall health, exercise and nutrition. Nationwide, 17 percent of kids are obese (BMI over the 95th percentile) and only one out of three kids meet basic fitness requirements. Kids spend nearly six and a half hours per day consuming media, witnessing over 40,000 commercials per year, most of which encourage them to remain inactive and continue consuming. With all the noise, today’s media-savvy kids have become increasingly difficult to reach. But creator Jill Jayne turns the media machine normally used to sell junk food and keep kids sedentary into a powerful tool for teaching healthy habits.

About the Rockstar Nutritionist
Note to Health, led by the Rockstar Nutritionist Jill Jayne, is a New York City-based company specializing in age-appropriate, interactive multimedia productions designed to teach kids about health. Note to Health currently offers three different nutrition education and entertainment productions: Jump with Jill, I Will Not Be Bought], and Jill & Jam. Jump with Jill is a live rock concert that teaches elementary students about nutrition through music. I Will Not Be Bought is an interactive, music-based performance for middle and high school students with a focus on the influence of advertising on body image and nutrition. Jill & Jam is a live, interactive show that gets preschoolers singing and dancing their way to healthier habits. Jill, President and Creative Director of Note to Health, is a musician and registered dietitian (RD) with a master’s degree in nutrition education from Columbia University, and a bachelor's degree in nutrition and theater from Penn State University. Through her work, Jill has established herself as an expert in creating and delivering interactive media about health with appearances at regional and national conferences, and featured in news outlets across the country, including Today's Dietitian, NPR, The Washington Post, and PBS.

My Vitamin Guide (MVG), an online review of vitamins, supplements, herbal remedies and alternative medicine, has added an enhanced diabetes section to its website. This new section includes extensive information on diabetes generally, as well as in-depth articles on type 1 and type 2 diabetes. MVG reports that ten nutritional supplements and herbs received its highest, 3-star rating after a review of scientific tests showed a substantial health benefit for people with type 2 diabetes. Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) October 7, 2005

My Vitamin Guide (MVG), an online review of vitamins, supplements, herbal remedies and alternative medicine, announced today it has added an enhanced diabetes section to its website.

Found online at www. MyVitaminGuide. com, MVG provides consumers free information on vitamins and supplements as well as resources, news, advice, and content from medical professionals on more than 650 health concerns and illnesses.

MVG reports that ten nutritional supplements and herbs received its highest 3-star rating after a review of scientific tests showed a substantial health benefit for people with type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, six of these ten supplements and herbs received the same 3-star rating for use with type 1 diabetes. These ten supplements, listed on the website at www. MyVitaminGuide. com/public/641.cfm (http://www. MyVitaminGuide. com/public/641.cfm), include:

Alpha Lipoic Acid Brewer’s yeast Chromium Evening primrose oil Fiber Glucomannan Magnesium Cayenne (topical for neuropathy) Fenugreek (seeds) Psyllium

“We’re pleased to offer diabetics, including those with both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes, credible information about natural treatments they can incorporate into their care,” said MVG CEO Sam Knoll.

“Our information comes from experts in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, nursing, naturopathic, and public health, and from over 500 prominent medical journals, and is consistent with advice offered by the American Diabetes Association,” he said.

My Vitamin Guide’s diabetes section recommends that people who are experiencing diabetes symptoms should focus on self-care, including these first steps:

Eat high-fiber foods - Stabilize your blood sugar by eating fiber from whole grains, beans (legumes), vegetables, and fruit, and consider using a fiber supplement such as glucomannan or psyllium Slim down - If you are overweight, lose weight with a long-term program of exercise and healthier eating to improve your insulin sensitivity Check out chromium - Taking 200 to 500 mcg a day may improve glucose tolerance Improve and protect with alpha lipoic acid - Take 600 to 1,200 mg a day to improve insulin sensitivity and help protect against diabetic complications such as nerve damage Use capsaicin ointment - An ointment containing 0.025% to 0.075% capsaicin four times a day might help control nerve pain

MVG’s extensive coverage of diabetes mellitus, diabetes symptoms, and recommended diabetes treatment and diabetes care include a complete diabetes “health center” found at www. MyVitaminGuide. com/public/394.cfm (http://www. MyVitaminGuide. com/public/394.cfm), in addition to comprehensive articles on type 1 diabetes found at www. Testosterone Can Cure/Treat Diabetes in Men; The U. S. Can Save $50 Billion and Men Can Reverse Diabetes (<a href="http://www. usdoctor. com" onclick="linkClick(this. href)">www. usdoctor. com</a>)

Testosterone Can Cure/Treat Diabetes in Men; The U. S. Can Save $50 Billion and Men Can Reverse Diabetes (www. usdoctor. com)

Testosterone: A simple, inexpensive, and bio-identical pharmaceutical drug created 70 years ago will gain universal popularity now that it as been proven to improve, arrest and potentially reverse adult onset diabetes in men. Ten years of experience and scientific research are referenced in Dr. Lichten's 'Textbook of Bio-Identical Hormones' published in 2007. As Dr. Lichten states, "Most of my patients have thrown away their expensive oral medications and reduced their insulin usage by 50%." (http://www. usdoctor. com)

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) February 4, 2008

How Much is a Leg Worth? Testosterone Can Cure/Treat Diabetes in Men. $15 per month treats diabetic men better than expensive standard meds!

Dr. Lichten has rediscovered the 1939 secret that as little as $15 of injectable testosterone is superior to all other diabetic medications. Where insulin is used in 10% of all diabetics, testosterone is applicable to almost all men, that's 50% of 30 million known American diabetics and 60 million more undiagnosed diabetics! As he reported to the media in 1999, and Ding reiterated from Harvard in the Journal of the American Medical Association on March 15, 2006, all diabetic men have low levels of testosterone. "And since testosterone is the key to energy in the male, it only makes sense that the body's reversal of diabetic breakdown comes from having improved energy from replacing natural testosterone," Lichten explained.

His 'Textbook of Bio-Identical Hormones' published in December 2007 reported that Lichten's hospital-based study and ten additional years of clinical trials proved oral hypoglycemic agents were of no value to two-thirds of his volunteers; furthermore, the inexpensive testosterone injections consistently improved diabetic control (measured as glycogenated hemoglobin; Hemoglobin A1c). Dr. Lichten further notes, "we have known for years that high levels of testosterone in women induce insulin resistance in poly-cystic ovarian disease. We are just learning that too much estrogen and too little testosterone may be even more important in creating the pre-diabetic condition men."

Testosterone does more than lower blood sugar in diabetic men. Not only does it increase the ability to remove glucose (sugar) from the blood stream, it also increases the breakdown of glycogen, stored glucose, into sugar. As a rule, even the most brittle diabetics do not report the dangerously low glucose level, and comas, that makes control difficult.

And testosterone has wondrous effects for men: from improved cardiac performance, improved sexual performance, improved muscle building, positive moods and lowering the risk of diseases such as Alzheimer's to strokes. The problem is that the prescription topical gels do not have the effectiveness of the weekly or monthly injections.

The pharmaceutical industry stands to lose $20 billion dollars in sales when the public and the physicians realize the secret to diabetic and men's health is so inexpensive and so readily available. And for the naysayer, low levels of testosterone are correlated with prostate cancer not high levels say Morgantaler in JAMA 1996.

The next discovery? Amgen's $30-50,000 per patient Epogen for treating the anemia of dialysis can be reduced by 50% when a form of testosterone is added. The potential health care savings are 3 billion dollars. That is what they use in Europe and we should be using here-- testosterone. The $15 medical miracle.

James Sowers, M. D., FACE, FACP, FAHA professor and chairman of endocrinology and metabolism at Wayne State University and now at the University of Missouri-Columbia was the supervising professor on the 1999- #601 Providence Hospital Study.

Storytime Yoga Nominated for Book Award

Storytime Yoga Nominated for Book Award

The book Storytime Yoga, Teaching Yoga To Children Through Story, has been nominated for the Anne Izard Storytellers' Choice award for distinguished titles in the field of storytelling published for children and adults. Storytime Yoga teaches teachers and parents how to teach children health and literacy, peace and character education through the world's wisdom stories and yoga.

Boulder, Colo. (PRWEB) March 15, 2007

Storytime Yoga: Teaching Children Yoga through Story, by Yoga Teacher and Storyteller Sydney Solis, has been nominated for the Anne Izard Storytellers' Choice Award.

The Westchester County, New York Library District nominated the 114-page book for teachers and parents about how to use the art of oral storytelling to teach children yoga, meditation, relaxation and peace and character education. It features eight multicultural wisdom stories scripted with yoga poses.

The Storytellers' Choice Award was established in 1992 to honor Anne Izard, noted storyteller, librarian and Children's Services Consultant in Westchester County, New York. The award highlights distinguished titles in the field of storytelling published for children and adults, and promotes the riches of storytelling to even wider audiences.

Storytime Yoga (ISBN#0977706303, $29.95 The Mythic Yoga Studio, Boulder, Colorado 2006) is available exclusively through Amazon. com, BarnesandNoble. com and the Boulder Bookstore, as well as through the Storytime Yoga website. (www. StorytimeYoga. com)

Drawing upon Montessori education methods and Dr. Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences theory, Storytime Yoga teaches children literacy, yoga philosophy and about their bodies the kinesthetic and linguistic way. It has also been used as play therapy and English as a Second Language instruction.

Children hear an oral, multicultural wisdom story culled from the world's diverse traditions, then reenact the story with yoga asanas. Children learn about story, story structure and become adept at creating and telling their own stories using their bodies and voices. The world's folklore also educates children about yoga philosophy, peace and character, as discussions invite children to relate their own lives to the stories they hear and embody. Story, symbol and imagery are also key to Storytime Yoga's relaxation and meditations. The program boosts self-esteem, oral and literacy skills, all the while bringing the benefits of yoga, such as balance, coordination, and concentration.

Solis teaches children's and family yoga classes, and has performed and given workshops internationally. She is expanding her national and international teacher training tour this year, and is collaborating with World Family Yoga for a Mythical Mayan Yoga Retreat in Tulum Mexico this April and in Costa Rica for March 2008.

Solis is the mother of two children, and created Storytime Yoga after the tragic suicide of her husband four years ago. She has more than 300 hours of Anusara yoga training, and is a member of the National Storytelling Network and its Interfaith and Healing Story Alliances. An associate of the Joseph Campbell foundation, she puts on World Peace Interfaith Storytelling Gatherings.

250 Million Year-Old 'Magnesium Oil' Is Newest Health Aid

250 Million Year-Old 'Magnesium Oil' Is Newest Health Aid

A new health product extracted from an ancient 250 million year old subterranean seabed seems to have great promise in the alternative healing arena. Coined as "magnesium oil" and available under the brand name Ancient Minerals, the product combats the effects of low cellular magnesium levels in the body. According to Dr. Mark Sircus, author of the book Transdermal Magnesium Therapy, "In the entire world of alternative medicine I have never run across such a pure powerful substance as Ancient Minerals magnesium oil."

San Ramon, CA (PRWEB) November 19, 2007

Ancient Mineral Used For Body Detoxification.

You wouldn't think that anything buried 1.25 miles deep in the Ancient Zechstein Seabed in Europe for over 250 million years would have any practical value today, but then you're not Dr. Mark Sircus, OMD, Ac, author of the book Transdermal Magnesium Therapy, and Director of the International Medical Veritas Association.

It seems that the doctor himself was quite surprised to discover that a naturally occurring substance called magnesium chloride seemed to have the ability to normalize cellular magnesium levels, resulting in immediate muscle and joint pain relief, while also encouraging healthy skin tissue, relieving symptoms of stress and generally improving people's mood.

Not really an oil, but a highly-saturated presentation of magnesium chloride that takes on an oil-like texture, the ancient mineral product actually detoxifies the body when applied directly to the skin, added to a warm bath or used as a foot soak.

According to Dr. Sircus, "There is no substitute for magnesium in human physiology; nothing comes even close to it in terms of its effect on overall cell physiology. Without sufficient magnesium, the body accumulates toxins and acid residues, degenerates rapidly and ages prematurely."

The magnesium oil, available under the brand name Ancient Minerals, combats the effects of low cellular magnesium levels. The body requires sufficient levels of magnesium to support normal cell growth, and there are scientific indications that low magnesium levels can be a causative factor in a large array of serious health complications.

Our environment, and the foods that we eat, introduce a great number of harmful metals and chemicals into our bodies. Because our skin is the body's largest organ, and the one that is most accessible without using invasive procedures, Ancient Minerals magnesium oil can be applied directly to the skin where it is naturally absorbed by the underlying tissues.

"In the entire world of alternative medicine I have never run across such a pure powerful substance as Ancient Minerals magnesium oil," Dr. Sircus said, and "It is quite clear that Ancient Minerals is the purest, naturally occurring magnesium chloride oil available anywhere," he added.

The original 100% pure Ancient Minerals magnesium oil is available from LL's Magnetic Clay Baths (http://www. magneticclay. com) in convenient 8oz and 64oz sizes. Visit the web site to learn more about the health benefits of this 250 million year old ancient mineral remedy.

General Counsel and Law Industry Insiders Chronicle Rapidly Changing Legal Services Industry in 'Unbound'

General Counsel and Law Industry Insiders Chronicle Rapidly Changing Legal Services Industry in 'Unbound'

New book outlines how entrepreneurs are unbundling services to respond to corporate cost-reduction mandates; 19 interviews included

Ferndale, WA (Vocus) April 3, 2009

The demands of a changing marketplace are forcing the legal industry, rooted in century-old law firms and billing practices, to behave less like a profession and more like a business. A new book, "Unbound: How Entrepreneurship is Dramatically Transforming Legal Services Today" dissects this upheaval and demonstrates how entrepreneurial best practices are being applied to the rapidly changing legal services industry.

Nineteen leading visionaries from corporate counsel, law firms, and legal outsourcing providers offer input on where the industry is going over the next three to five years. Interviews include corporate counsel from Cardinal Health, Del Monte, Deutsche Bank, Johnson and Johnson, and Xerox. In addition, attorneys from prominent law firms and top management of legal service companies were interviewed, including Eversheds, Mayer Brown, Steptoe & Johnson, Trilegal, and the Vallex Fund.

Author David Galbenski (http://www. unboundlegal. com/about_author. html) is uniquely qualified to tackle this subject from three distinct perspectives. As an attorney, founder of Lumen Legal and Chairman of the Global Board of Directors of the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO), he has extensive expertise in entrepreneurial success strategies. And his business is the business of law.

"The financial and economic crisis of 2008 delivered the final blow to an industry that was already facing fundamental issues with its long-term business model," says Galbenski. "The key question all legal services professionals need to ask is, 'In a game where the rules have changed, am I playing offense or defense? Am I going to be a leading innovator in this new environment, or am I merely going to match what my competitors are doing?' "

Law firms have traditionally built a high fixed-cost associate salary structure that escalated each year, requiring an annual increase in billing rates. As more and more corporations began pushing back on higher charges, the model began to crumble. The current economic situation is only accelerating the pressure.

New legal service delivery models focus on the unbundling of tasks, such as labor-intensive document review, to perform them better, faster and/or cheaper. Other trends include changing lifestyles and workforce demographics, business globalization, and consolidation of law firms. Seven key trends are examined in the book.

The hard-cover edition is slated for an April 20, 2009 release, and can be ordered at www. unboundlegal. com, ISBN: 978-0-9778151-7-3.

Subconscious Mind Said to Produce Safer, More Effective Pain Relief Than Drugs

Subconscious Mind Said to Produce Safer, More Effective Pain Relief Than Drugs

At a time when the safety of pain medications such as Vioxx, Celebrex, and Aleve are being publicly questioned, millions of people have nowhere to turn for relief. Or do they? A new technique is allowing at least some pain sufferers to give themselves a safe and possibly effective alternative from a new source – their own subconscious mind.

(PRWEB) January 14, 2005

At a time when the safety of pain medications such as Vioxx, Celebrex, and Aleve are being publicly questioned, millions of people have nowhere to turn for relief. Or do they?

“If you’re concerned about the safety of your pain medication, or if it doesn’t work, why not invite your subconscious to try to give you some relief?” asks Ben Plumb, CEO of The Visualization Group, Inc., a new self-help service that shows chronic pain suffers how to use tools called visualization statements to try to ease their pain.

According to Plumb, visualization statements represent the specific language that your subconscious wants you to read to it to help it reduce your pain. You can obtain this language by working at home, over the telephone, with one of the companyÂ’s facilitators. The process takes about an hour and involves using a homemade pendulum device to obtain Yes and No answers from the subconscious about your pain.

“I sustained a significant injury to my back four years ago, and have been virtually pain-free now for months,” says Rosanne Haines, 49, a human resources manager who began using visualization statements in June, 2004.

The method not only seems to work well for back pain and pain in the neck and other extremities, but also for fibromyalgia pain. “I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1990, and am so thankful to have the relief I have so far attained,” says Jean Rose, 61, a licensed mental health counselor who began the program seven months ago. Visualization statements may also work for some forms of arthritis pain and neuropathic pain (nerve pain).

Himself a ten-year victim of chronic hip pain that no drug or doctor could resolve, Plumb, a Harvard MBA and former executive in the healthcare industry, turned in desperation to his subconscious in the summer of 2003. After working for months to learn how to communicate with it, he developed a simple technique that almost anyone can use to discover what visualization statements may help ease their pain.

About The Visualization Group

The service of The Visualization Group is maintained and delivered by people who have personally suffered from years of chronic pain and have used visualization statements to obtain significant relief when nothing else worked. All facilitators are either Professional (licensed) or Regular (non-licensed) members of the American Counseling Association and are bound by its Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. The company does not provide medical or healthcare advice and does not have medical professionals on staff. The visualization method described in this news release is Patent Pending.
