Who Would Have Thought That Acupressure Could Relieve Social Anxiety Better Than Drugs or Therapy?

Who Would Have Thought That Acupressure Could Relieve Social Anxiety Better Than Drugs or Therapy?

Social anxiety disorder is a common a fear of meeting strangers, performing for a group, or speaking at meetings. So many Americans suffer from it that clinical trials are underway to test drug treatments for the disorder. But EFT, a do-it-yourself acupressure technique, eliminates social anxiety for most who try it, rapidly and with lasting results.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 6, 2006

Americans say they are more afraid of public speaking than they are of snakes or spiders. Most live normal lives despite their stage fright, but an estimated 35 million suffer from social anxiety disorder, a severe fear of meeting strangers, becoming the center or focus of attention, or performing for a group. Also known as social phobia, social anxiety is the third most common psychiatric disorder in the United States after depression and alcohol dependence. Psychiatric drugs that treat the condition are being tested in clinical trials.

But the best treatment for social anxiety, according to a growing number of psychologists and health care professionals, may be a drug-free do-it-yourself procedure called EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). Its premise is that fears, phobias, and the physical symptoms they generate are caused by disruptions along the body’s energy meridians. These are the same energy paths mapped thousands of years ago by Chinese acupuncturists. Stimulating key acupuncture points by tapping on them with the fingertips restores the energy flow and alleviates symptoms.

This simple procedure has been found clinically successful for all forms of anxiety in over 10 years of clinical trials.

Canadian psychiatrist Curtis Steele, MD, calls EFT the single most effective technique he has used in 45 years of practice. “I’ve had considerable success using EFT in the treatment of social anxiety, panic attacks, and many other disorders,” he says.

The physical symptoms of social anxiety disorder include rapid heartbeat, sweating, tremors, nausea, diarrhea, muscle tension, muscle cramps, blushing, confusion, and dizziness. These symptoms stem from an excessive fear of scrutiny by others or a persistent fear of embarrassment and humiliation when speaking to strangers. The symptoms also occur when meeting new people, when using a public restroom, or when participating in any performance, sports event, or public presentation. According to the American Psychiatric Association, social anxiety can lead to panic disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and depression.

Severe social anxiety can cause chronic unemployment, dropping out of school, drug or alcohol abuse, suicidal thoughts, and other devastating results.

The problem often begins in childhood, becomes intense during high school, and lasts a lifetime. More common in women than men, social anxiety appears to run in families. It affects one out of seven Americans.

EFT practitioners report that in training workshops, it’s not uncommon for someone who was paralyzed with stage fright to use the EFT tapping process while focusing on that fear. While doing so, they suddenly relax and begin speaking or singing while thoroughly enjoying the experience. Practitioners have offered EFT as a first-aid treatment for people having an emotional melt-down just before making a presentation or competing in a sports event. EFT has also helped those who couldn’t use public restrooms.

Gary Craig, the Stanford-trained engineer who developed EFT, collects reports from EFT practitioners around the world. “Thousands of these are posted at the EFT website,” he says, “including dozens relating to social phobias and performance anxiety. It usually takes just a few minutes to learn EFT, and the results are often instantaneous and permanent. Once the underlying cause of fear and panic disappears, it doesn’t usually come back. If it does, the person can tap it away.”

That’s good new for those who are too terrified to think about things like auditions, job interviews, speeches, marriage proposals, or even a trip to the supermarket. EFT can be used by people of all ages, including children, and the EFT website features numerous reports about children overcoming shyness, bullying, stage fright, and other fears with EFT’s combination of tapping and mental imagery.

Over 300,000 have downloaded Craig’s free training manual and another 10,000 download it each month.

The official EFT Manual, which has been translated by volunteer practitioners into nine languages, explains the basics so that anyone can begin applying EFT right away. The manual can be freely downloaded at

Center for Practice Innovations at RFMH Is Double Award Winner

Center for Practice Innovations at RFMH Is Double Award Winner

The awards honor a new training course for mental health professionals who treat co-occurring disorders.

Kaysville, UT (PRWEB) July 6, 2010

The Center for Practice Innovations (CPI) at the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene (RFMH), along with the New York State Offices of Mental Health (OMH) and of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), and Columbia Psychiatry, are the proud recipients of two Omni Intermedia Awards for Spring 2010. CPI and partners are being recognized for their new Focus on Integrated Treatment (FIT) training courses, developed by Allen Communication Learning Services in collaboration with CPI, OMH, OASAS, the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center, and FireDancer Productions, Inc.

Michael F. Hogan, PhD, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Mental Health said, "We are delighted at this honor. Focus on Integrated Treatment (FIT) was designed to address a key gap in use of research-proven treatments--the expense and inconvenience of taking time from work to attend intensive training. Via training modules accessible from any computer, FIT provides a convenient way to provide professional education. But it could not work effectively without exceptional quality in the materials and the presentation. This is why we value this high level of recognition."

The two silver awards in the Government, and Internal Communication categories were bestowed on FIT. The FIT course is a series of web-based-training courses that Allen designed in collaboration with CPI and its partners to improve treatment for people coping with Co-Occurring Disorders (COD). COD is the occurrence of multiple disorders, like bipolar illness and substance use disorder, in an individual. COD afflicts 5.6 million people annually.

“There is no need to compromise with well designed online training,” said Ron Zamir, CEO of Allen. We are proud of the RFMH project and our ability to serve the community though a higher standard of professional education.”

National data show that half of the people with COD don’t receive treatment. A third of people with COD get only mental health or addiction care. Only about one in ten get treatment for both disorders, and only about two percent get care that is evidence-based and integrated. CPI and its partners are using FIT to bridge these divides by training practitioners how to provide effective combined COD treatment.

Karen M. Carpenter-Palumbo, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) said, “We are pleased to be partnering with OMH to improve the lives of those with co-occurring disorders. Focus on Integrated Treatment (FIT) furthers our talent management goals to increase the learning and development of our providers, and serves as another vital resource along with our web-based trainings called Learning Thursdays.”

The Omni Intermedia Awards are owned and operated by Media Corp Inc., which exists to recognize outstanding media productions that engage, empower and enlighten. Awards are given for exceptional work in Film, Video, TV, Internet, Interactive Media, Animation and Audio production.

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. New Chlorine Dioxide Horticultural Sanitizer from Griffin Greenhouse and Nursery Supplies Controls Greenhouse Algae

New Chlorine Dioxide Horticultural Sanitizer from Griffin Greenhouse and Nursery Supplies Controls Greenhouse Algae

Company enters national distribution agreement with selective micro technologies for Selectrocide™ chlorine dioxide.

Tewksbury, MA (PRWEB) July 1, 2005

Today, Griffin Greenhouse & Nursery Supplies of Tewksbury, MA announced a partnership with Selective Micro Technologies, in conjunction with the research of Dr. Peter Konjoian, to distribute Selectrocide™ chlorine dioxide to the horticulture market nationwide. In tests conducted over the past two years, Selectrocide has been shown to effectively control algae and unwanted microbial growth in greenhouse production. For growers, Selectrocide will help reduce crop loss due to algae growth and will significantly improve overall greenhouse sanitation, delivering higher-quality plants and improved profitability.

Selectrocide comes in a patented, membrane-enclosed packet that enables growers to generate a solution of chlorine dioxide quickly and easily, in the precise amounts and concentrations needed at the point of use. Once immersed in water, the packet emits chlorine dioxide into the water at a neutral pH. The result is a 99% pure solution of chlorine dioxide and water. This US EPA-registered product is now available for commercial use in greenhouses and nurseries.

Known for over 50 years to be an excellent sanitizing agent, chlorine dioxide has been used to clean public drinking water and kill highly infectious bacteria, fungi and viruses. Its use has been limited to large-scale applications due to limitations in generating chlorine dioxide on site. SelectrocideÂ’s patented technology eliminates these limitations and allows - for the first time - the generation of 99% pure chlorine dioxide in economical quantities, quickly and easily.

Griffin will be selling Selectrocide and delivery system kits to the horticultural market starting on July 1, 2005. Dave Morin, Senior VP of Marketing/Purchasing, commented, “The use of Selectrocide has the potential to bring our customersÂ’ growing operations to cleaner and healthier levels never before achievable, and to maintain that level from season to season and year to year.”

Dr. Peter Konjoian of Konjoian’s Floriculture Education Services has spent 2 ½ years researching Selectrocide, and his relationship with Selective Micro Technologies has been integral in bringing Selectrocide chlorine dioxide to the horticulture market. Dr. Konjoian’s research has shown that algae and other microbial growth can be reduced dramatically in traditional irrigation systems with twice-a-year shock treatments of only 50ppm, followed by ultra-low continuous injection at a residual level of only 0.25ppm.

Flexsteel Selects NESTERwood to Optimize Upholstery Frame Production

Flexsteel Selects NESTERwood to Optimize Upholstery Frame Production

Furniture manufacturer Flexsteel Industries has selected the NESTERwood Optimizer software to optimize upholstery frame production. Based on extensive evaluation and testing conducted by Flexsteel in its production environment, material yield improvements of 8-12 percent are expected once the NESTERwood solution is fully implemented.

Ball Ground, GA (PRWEB) August 18, 2006

Nester Software, a leading provider of production optimization solutions for the upholstery furniture industry, announced that Flexsteel Industries has selected the NESTERwood Optimizer software to optimize upholstery frame production, starting in Flexsteel’s Dublin, GA, facility.

As the furniture industry continues to be impacted by increases in raw material and energy costs, manufacturers are looking to increase material utilization and reduce production cycle times.

NESTERwood Rolling Nest automatically optimizes the placement of pieces from one or more orders on multiple sheets of plywood, resulting in material yields that are consistently higher than any other solution.

Based on extensive evaluation and testing conducted by Flexsteel in its production environment, material yield improvements of 8-12 percent are expected once the NESTERwood solution is fully implemented.

“Creating a tight nest that results in an impractical cutting path that causes pieces to be damaged defeats the whole purpose of optimization,” says Dan Lamm, Corporate Industrial Engineer for Flexsteel. “NESTERwood was the only software we found to not only deliver a solution that is efficient, but also produce nests that can actually be cut without damaging any pieces.”

In addition to the improvement in material utilization, NESTERwood will help Flexsteel get closer to its goal of Just-In-Time (JIT) manufacturing. By cutting to exact order demand, NESTERwood Optimizer eliminates the need to cut excess parts and reduces the inventory and operational costs associated with the practice.

Test runs with NESTERwood Optimizer have also shown to reduce cycle time per sheet (the time it takes to process one plywood sheet), improving the efficiency of CNC routers used to cut the plywood and overall productivity. Flexsteel currently uses 13 CNC routers across three of its seven production plants.

“We are excited for the opportunity to work with an industry leader such as Flexsteel,” says Elery Pfeffer, President of Nester Software. “The thorough evaluation conducted by Flexsteel is a testament to the rigorous approach the company is taking towards production optimization, and we are thrilled to be chosen as partners in this quest.”

P. B.G's Productions Draws Talented Artists to Local Communities

P. B.G's Productions Draws Talented Artists to Local Communities

P. B.G's Productions Draws Talented Artists to Local Communities

(PRWEB) December 26, 2003

P. B.G.’s Productions is an independent production company, committed to the future, by providing opportunities and awareness to its community-based youth organizations. Thanks to the collective efforts of P. B.G.’s Productions, the NAACP and the Skills Networks Assets & Programs for Youth and Families (SNAP), we have been able to bring talented artists to the community such as El-Malik, in March of 2001, lead singer for the Motown group, 7669, performed for the youth and she prompted a vigorous dialogue on what it is like to be a performer and the steps necessary to achieve this goal. This event was sponsored under P. B.G.’s Productions banner, “Dreams” Are Nothing More Than Plans Awaiting Action.

In late July 2001, P. B.G.Â’s Productions presented Tanya Simpson, an on air personality for 98.7 KISS FM radio. She spoke on a broad base for breaking into the radio and music business to our young audience.

On January 9th in 2002, in Newsday, an article was written, pointing out that the Wyandanch Long Island Middle School was posted on the state’s lowest-performing list. Wyandanch ranked as one of the poorest districts in their county. In hearing this, P. B.G.’s Productions, mobilized the entertainment industry by making a few phone call and, “Wyandanch Youth Live Aid” was born. With the help of Patti W. Bullard Executive Director of the Wyandanch Youth Center, and sponsors included: The Heritage Networks, Verizon, FUBU, Unique Sports Generation, Great South Bay YMCA and L’Oreal U. S.A. These major sponsors helped bring 98.7 KISS FM’s DJ, Lenny Green as the host for the event, while artists: Mel Love, Byata, Lou Star, Reese and Joelle of Will Hart Delphonics, performed and spoke to the youth about making the right choices in life.

On September 25,2003 Together with the Wyandanch Martian Luther King Jr. provided a high level of entertainment to the COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER’S ANNUAL ADVISORY BOARD HEALTH CONFERENCE “STEP INTO HEALTH - THE EVER CHANGING HUMAN VIRUS”, with Jenell Chin, Cover Artist for SGIB Nov-Dec 2003 magazine, El-Mailk, former Lead Singer for 90’s Motown’s girl group 7669 and making his first L. I. appearance Chris Curry, who has performed with Ray, Goodman & Brown / The Moments ("Love On A Two Way Street", "Special Lady"); produces events for Isaac Hayes and writes commercial music jingles for major advertising agencies; has been making dreams come true for many aspiring performing and recording artists for over 20 years.

On November 23, 2003, at the Town of Islip’s Recreation Center in Brentwood a very special guest, Sara Raya, ‘The Hardest Working Dancer in Show Business.” This dancer from Barcelona, Spain is one of the dancers for “The Godfather of Soul”, Mr. James Brown and also a cover artist in the June 2003 issue of SGIB Magazine, Long Island’s First Bilingual Music Magazine.

When the beautiful Raya came out, she spoke to the youth, sending such strong messages such as how important education is, how dreams do come true so never give up, how practicing will get you further and then fielded questions from the audience. She was witty, humble, fun and a role model for all. Then she entertained all with her dance moves and rapping-yes, rapping! She raps in Spanish and with her Latin flava, she received a well deserved round of cheering and applause from everyone. Raya also performs a rap duet with “The Godfather of Soul,” Mr. James Brown, on tour. Her infectious smile and bubbly personality made everyone so comfortable, that you would never know she is an international superstar and has traveled the world over 6 times. She even brought up some of the youths to sing and dance with her to 50 Cent and other popular tunes. Credit has to go to Sara Raya for encouraging the youths to not be afraid of their dreams and to do what they want to do in life.

This special event brought out members of several youth organizations on Long Island like Adelante, YES, and the Youth Council of the NAACP and they were ‘wowed’ by all that was offered. For three hours, the excitement and entertainment never ended. With music was provided by Elliot’s DJ Music & Catering with his assistant, Ron and live performances from four different genres of music. Reggae was performed by, Joseph Reno, rapping and dancing by the new Long Island sensation girl group, Cittin’ Pretty, to the incredible R & B vocals of Ernest Miller’s rendition of Brenda Russell’s, “Get Here.” Even audience members grabbed the mic to do their own thing and free raffles were given out for celebrity photographs from Photos by Gerard’s private collection.

P. B.G.Â’s Productions pet project is to serve the community and help the youth realize that no matter where you live, no matter your life situations, hope springs eternal and never give up your dreams. P. B.G.Â’s Productions does all of their events simply to bring a positive message to the youth. If your organization is interested in the Youth Empowerment Program, you can contact Gerard, Event Coordinator, at 631-969-3676. ItÂ’s worth it! Youth and the community is a project close to GerardÂ’s heart and he loves to help the youth and serve his community. He should be praised for his dedication to this mission. This event was sponsored by Strong G Island Biz/SGIB Magazine, Long IslandÂ’s First Bilingual Music Magazine, you can visit the website at www. sgibmagazine. com and the Peter Pan Diner in Brightwaters.

Gerard has also carried his message of “Dreams” Are Nothing More Than Plans Awaiting Action, into schools, where he openly speaks on his own past of drugs, prison and the power to change. “While missing out on my own children’s lives, due to drugs, today I still want to raise a child. I feel I can best do that by not bringing another child into this world, but by help making a difference in the ones that are already here.”

If P. B.G.Â’s Productions, can be of some service to your youth organization through: A basic course on photography, outlining: Photographic Creative Visualization: where we see photography, effectiveness of photography in our day to day lives, different aspects of photography (i. e. sports, fashion, advertising and photojournalism) and the difference between taking a picture and capturing a moment. Completed with the hands of what it takes to publish a magazine, where one will learn, interviewing, writing, reporting, layout by actively being involved in the ground breaking new music magazine SGIB a monthly publication. Please feel free to contact me.

USA-HealthInsurance Makes Health Savings Accounts More Accessible to Consumers

USA-HealthInsurance Makes Health Savings Accounts More Accessible to Consumers

As the popularity of Health Savings Accounts grows as an alternative to more traditional ways of covering medical costs, insurance companies like USA-HealthInsurance are making it easier for consumers to enroll in such programs.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 10, 2007

As an entire generation of baby boomers prepares for retirement, a new development in medical care emerges. People are beginning to change the way they invest their money and pay for their medical care, and the newest trend in healthcare is investing in Health Savings Accounts (http://www. usa-healthinsurance. com/health-savings-accounts. html) (HSA) rather than the more traditional flexible spending accounts. The option for HSA was created in 2003 and since then has immensely grown in popularity, with the latest figures reported reaching record highs. USA-HealthInsurance. com, a free, nationwide online service where consumers can access, compare, and purchase individual health insurance (http://www. usa-healthinsurance. com/individual_family_health_insurance. html), is now offering these innovative Health Savings Accounts. An HSA is a two-component health plan consisting of a tax-deductible, high deductible catastrophic health insurance plan, and a tax-free claims expense reimbursement and tax-deferred savings plan.

Any individual who is covered by a high-deductible health plan may establish an HSA with USA-HealthInsurance. com (originally WebInsuranceMart. com since 1999). Amounts contributed to an HSA belong to individuals and are completely portable. Every year the money not spent stays in the account and gains interest tax-free, just like an IRA. Unused amounts remain available for later years (unlike amounts in Flexible Spending Arrangements that are forfeited if not used by the end of the year). For those enrolled in self employed health insurance plans (http://www. usa-healthinsurance. com), having an HSA as a supplemental benefit program is especially helpful.

"The primary reason for HSAs is affordability, and the secondary open choice in doctors and hospitals", says Ted Officer, President of USA-HealthInsurance. com. "As a benefit of HSA coverage, you save money on personal taxes, on current and future day-to-day medical costs, and you also save money through lower rates on your health insurance. Plus, your unused, savings account funds grow tax-deferred; what you don't spend you keep year after year!"

According to Ted Officer, President of USA-HealthInsurance. com, "Tax-advantaged contributions can be made in three ways: the individual or family can make tax deductible contributions to the HSA even if they do not itemize deductions; the individual's employer (instead of or in addition to offering enrollment in a group or small business health insurance (http://www. usa-healthinsurance. com/group_health_insurance_census_form. html) plan) can make contributions that are not taxed to either the employer or the employee; and, employers sponsoring cafeteria plans can allow employees to contribute untaxed salary through salary reduction."

"It's never too late to purchase HSA coverage", says Paul Faile, Senior Manager of USA-HealthInsurance. "Individuals age 55 and older are allowed to make additional catch-up contributions to their HSAs to encourage saving for health expenses after retirement. Once an individual enrolls in Medicare they are no longer eligible to contribute to their HSA."

"You can enjoy the advantages and convenience of shopping and purchasing your Health Savings Account plan through USA-HealthInsurance online and rest assured that you're getting the best available price", says Ted Officer, President of USA-HealthInsurance. com.

"Choosing an HSA is really easy. A person can go online and can choose by state, by carrier or by quote. Enter their name, age and other information and instantly review multiple HSA plans from major insurance companies, nationwide," says Hunter Ross, Manager of Operations for USA-HealthInsurance. com. "A personally assigned qualified agent can guide consumers through the process to ensure the best possible rates and plans.

About USA-HealthInsurance

USA-HealthInsurance. com operates across the United States and provides the best possible rates available from major insurance companies, including rates for Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia health insurance (http://www. usa-healthinsurance. com/georgia-health-insurance. html). Can You Grow Taller After Puberty? The Answer Will Surprise You

Can You Grow Taller After Puberty? The Answer Will Surprise You

No matter how tall you may be, you can follow a few exercises and diet regimes to grow taller and increase height naturally. YOKO is a scientifically developed height increasing device that is effective for men and women of all ages who want to grow taller.

(PRWEB) June 19, 2006

No matter how tall you may be, you can follow a few exercises and diet regimes to grow taller by increasing your height. Height is a very subjective term. What one person considers as tall may be short to someone else. Nevertheless, there are many personal, professional, financial and gender advantages from height increase such as:

women are naturally more attracted to taller men society associates attributes power, intelligence, leadership, confidence, and competence to taller individuals better self-confidence and self-esteem taller men are inexplicably selected 75% of the time for a job compared with shorter men with similar credentials and experience

Here's a little unknown fact - 95% of all the tall people in this world have shorter parents and grew taller as a result of certain factors.

Whether you are looking forward to increasing your height, developing bone density, or regenerating bone cells, your growth hormone can be manufactured in great amounts and is distributed most often during certain periods of your life. There are a number of factors that, if manipulated correctly, will substantially increase growth hormone levels in your body and that will assist in any potential height increase.

According to the human growth medical research findings by Dr Ichiro Kawaguchi of Tokyo Research Laboratory of the National Health Department and Dr A. Kawata from the Kyoto University, human height is not determined by genetic factor alone.

It is strongly influenced by the effects of certain hormones on the development of the 26 skeletal bones and the cartilageneous portions of the 62 bones of the lower body. The stimulation of the pituitary gland would increase hormonal production, which would then spur the growth of the cartilageneous portions of the bones of the lower body, ultimately leading to height increase.

Research has shown that short individuals have fewer opportunities for romantic relationships, have fewer children, and on average are paid less. Finding adult fashion clothes is also difficult. Short women report that they are not taken as seriously as their taller peers. Short people deserve the same rights and privileges as any other member of society. We hope to help you gain them.

YOKO is a scientifically developed height increasing device that is effective for men and women of all ages who want to grow taller. It is the natural, effective & sffordable solution and is available for only $29 at http://www. grow-taller-now. com (http://www. grow-taller-now. com).

Ceridian LifeWorks and Leade Health Seek Better Outcomes for Bariatric Surgery Patients

Ceridian LifeWorks and Leade Health Seek Better Outcomes for Bariatric Surgery Patients

Health coaches will work with people to determine if bariatric surgery is their best option for permanent weight loss.

Minneapolis (PRWEB) February 22, 2007

Contrary to popular belief, bariatric surgery (http://www. ceridian. com/bariatric) is not a quick fix to help the morbidly obese achieve permanent weight loss. Success requires making some of the most significant lifestyle changes imaginable.

In response, Ceridian (http://www. ceridian. com/myceridian? promo=441) LifeWorks, along with its recently acquired health coaching firm, Leade Health (http://301url. com/Ceridian_article), today announced a new bariatric surgery health coaching (http://www. ceridian. com/bariatric) service. The program is designed to identify individuals who are willing and able to make the eating and physical activity modifications necessary to help ensure success following bariatric surgery.

“Bariatric surgery is an effective way to treat people with morbid obesity, but not everyone is a good candidate,” said Ceridian LifeWorks senior vice president, Zachary Meyer. “Our role is to help identify the people who can make and maintain the necessary lifestyle changes. Spending approximately $30,000 for bariatric surgery, subjecting the patient to the risks involved and then failing to achieve long-term weight loss (http://www. ceridian. com/bariatric) is in no one’s best interest.”

A key step to reducing rising health care costs

This new health coaching service also will help save payers of health care premiums, such as employers and health plans, thousands of dollars per individual. In the U. S. workforce today there is potentially tens of thousands of people who are very obese and therefore are eligible for bariatric surgery.

Realizing the need to focus this costly and potentially risky surgery on those most likely to succeed, Health Alliance Medical Plan signed on for the program on Dec. 1, 2006. Health Alliance Medical Plan is Illinois’ largest managed care organization, covering more than 250,000 lives and 800 employer groups in Illinois and Iowa.

“This unique bariatric program not only helps members manage their weight before and after such an extensive surgery, but it provides an added benefit by teaching them lasting lifestyle changes,” said Dr. Robert Scully, chief medical officer for Health Alliance Medical Plans.

Health coaches motivate and empower individuals

For those who move forward with bariatric surgery, health coaches use a motivational health coaching approach to help them make the needed lifestyle changes to maintain good health. Understanding which changes a person is ready to make – rather than dictating what changes they should make – empowers the individual. Health coaches allow the member to set their own goals related to obesity, giving them ownership of the issue.

“In the old days, a dietitian would simply tell their patients what they needed to do. We now know that doesn’t work,” said Ceridian’s Zachary Meyer. “We work to understand and uncover what barriers to change the members have and we strive to give them the confidence to follow through with the necessary long-term lifestyle changes that encourage success. After surgery, the initial results are significant, but sustained results require a lasting commitment to change.”

Program has proven success rates

Ceridian acquired Ann Arbor Michigan-based Leade Health in November 2006. Leade was founded in 1990 and specializes in health coaching in the areas of weight management, stress management, tobacco cessation and cardiovascular health. Leade Health‘s success rates from its signature health coaching model achieve results that exceed national norms. The new specialty joins Leade’s pioneer health coaching programs with Ceridian’s workplace health and productivity solutions. Meyer added that relatively few companies have Leade’s experience in working with cases of extreme obesity. Of the 10,000 patients who have gone through Leade Health’s iCanChange program, 15 percent were determined to have extreme obesity and six percent of those underwent bariatric surgery.

LegalView Reports on Prominent Montana Democrat's Demand for Funds to Cleanup Asbestos-Ridden Town

LegalView Reports on Prominent Montana Democrat's Demand for Funds to Cleanup Asbestos-Ridden Town

One of Montana's top Democrats has demanded that the federal government allocate funds to clean up an asbestos-ridden town housing a former vermiculite mine. Libby, Montana is the site of the former W R Grace & Co mine, declared a Superfund site by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Denver, CO (PRWEB) March 14, 2008

LegalView. com, the number one resource for everything legal on the Web, recently alerted readers of a top Montana politician's demands for the federal government to increase funding to help the town of Libby, Montana, the site of a former vermiculate mine. Sen. Max Baucus, considered a top Democrat in Montana, learned of asbestos-laced insulation, which spilled onto an elementary-school playground and could have potentially increased the risk of mesothelioma among school children exposed to it. The W R Grace & Co mine was located in Libby for years until the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) declared it a Superfund site. Those who live in or around the Libby area or who have previously worked in an area where asbestos may have been inhaled, should contact a mesothelioma lawyer (http://mesothelioma. legalview. com/find-mesothelioma-law-firm. aspx) for more information.

Vermiculate is mineral that in some instances contains asbestos, which through overexposure and inhalation can cause a deadly form of lung cancer known as mesothelioma. Mesothelioma can take years to develop and in most cases several decades before symptoms are recognizable. Even then, mesothelioma cancer is often misdiagnosed because of the similar systems to other illnesses that exist. Individuals who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma should contact an experienced mesothelioma law firm (http://mesothelioma. legalview. com/find-mesothelioma-law-firm. aspx) to learn about the possibilities of developing a mesothelioma lawsuit (http://mesothelioma. legalview. com/mesothelioma-law-suit/) to potentially retrieve compensation for medical bills and expenses.

While the town of Libby is receiving cleanup funds from the EPA, Sen. Baucus told news organizations that he feels the proposed Superfund budget for the upcoming year falls nearly $5 million short. There currently is no cure for mesothelioma, which is why cleanup prior to exposure is a necessity for many. Those who have previously been exposed to asbestos should consider contacting a mesothelioma attorney (http://mesothelioma. legalview. com/find-mesothelioma-law-firm. aspx) for more information.

For more news on mesothelioma, visit LegalView's mesothelioma blog at http://mesothelioma. legalview. com/blog (http://mesothelioma. legalview. com/blog). Or for additional information on other legal issues visit LegalView's vast array of practice areas to learn about the latest on the Baxter Heparin recall, Chantix side effects or traumatic brain injury treatments.

Heparin, from Baxter Healthcare Corp., is a blood-thinning drug that was commonly used during surgical procedures, but it has been making headlines because of recent rash of allergic reactions among patients who were administered the drug. Baxter has recalled the drug but for many who may have undergone a surgery, it may be important to seek medical assistance. To learn more about the Heparin recall (http://baxter-heparin. legalview. com), contact an experienced Heparin attorney who can provide details and insight into building a legal case.

Chantix is another prescription drug recently surrounded by controversy, which is prescribed to individuals trying to quit smoking, however, the drug has recently been linked to several suicides as well as suicidal behaviors and thoughts among patients, according to the FDA. Physicians have warned that if a patient of Chantix has felt any of the Chantix side effects (http://chantix. legalview. com) including depression and erratic behavior, it is imperative that they discontinue use of Chantix and speak with a medical professional immediately.

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when a person incurs damage to the brain resulting from a physical blow to head. Brain injury can also occur without an actual blow if the brain is pushed strongly against the skull, as occurs with whiplash or Shaken Baby Syndrome. Victims who suffer from a TBI should consider contacting an expert brain injury attorney for more information about how to file a brain injury lawsuit (http://brain-injury. legalview. com) in order to receive possible due compensation.

$2,300,000 Queens Jury Verdict for 45 Year Old Hispanic Women After Two Physicians at Elmhurst Medical Center (New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation) Failed to Diagnose a Large and Obvious Mass on Her Left Breast as Breast Cancer - Opazo v. NYCH&HC, Supreme Court, Queens County Index No. 5412/02

On October 13, 2004, after 2 1/2 weeks of testimony, a Queens County jury returned a verdict of $2,300,000 to a 45 year old Hispanic women. Frank Estrada, M. D., a family practioner, and a physician in charge of the Hospital's Women's Health Services Clinic, and Yakov Ovrutsky, M. D., a radiologist, both employed at Elmhurst Medical Center failed to diagnose a large and obvious mass on the women's left breast. As a result, the women needlessly lost her left breast, underwent unnecessary plastic surgery, and lost her best chance of survival against her breast cancer.

(PRWEB) November 8, 2004

The patient presented to Elmhurst Medical Center on August 10, 2001 complaining of hardness in her left breast. Dr. Estrada concluded after conducting his physical examination that the women had a large mass on her left breast measuring approximately 4 inches in its greatest dimension. The doctor also drew a diagram to reflect the approximate size and location of the mass. The jury found that Dr. Estrada was negligent in that he failed to send the women for a diagnostic mammogram and that he also failed to have her undergo a biopsy.

Dr. Yakov Ovrutsky, 80 years old, received his medical training in Siberia, Russia, was not board certified in radiology, and claimed to be self taught in interpreting mammogram films. He refused to appear at trial on the grounds that he was too ill, even though he was working at the hospital interpreting films. Due to his claimed illness, the judge did not require Dr. Ovrutsky to appear at trial. The jury found that Dr. Ovrutsky was negligent in that he failed to properly interpret the patient's mammogram films. The jury heard from 12 physicians including 2 internists, 3 radiologists, a family practioner, a general surgeon, a plastic surgeon, a breast surgeon, an oncological surgeon, an obstetrician/gynecologist, a pathologist, and an oncologist/hemotologist.

The jury deliberated for 5 hours over 2 days, and returned a verdict for $2,300,000 unanimously. The defendants, through their employer, the New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation intend to appeal the jury's verdict. The defendants were represented by Heidell, Pittoni, Murphy & Bach, P. C. of New York, New York.

Consulting Firm Six Sigma Academy Creates New Identity as 'SSA & Company'

Consulting Firm Six Sigma Academy Creates New Identity as 'SSA & Company'

Corporate consulting firm Six Sigma Academy – which introduced the concept of Six Sigma to the world's largest corporations – has announced a new identity, and a broader mission. Effective today, the firm will do business under the name SSA & Company.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 9, 2008

Corporate consulting (http://www. ssaandco. com/) firm Six Sigma Academy has a new identity (http://www. ssaandco. com/).

The company – which introduced the concept of Six Sigma to the world's largest corporations – has announced a new name, and a broader mission. Effective today, the firm will do business under the name SSA & Company.

"We have evolved from being a firm narrowly focused on Six Sigma training to one that is increasingly engaged in strategic process improvement, rapid transformation, and employee engagement," said company chairman David Fuente. "Our new identity (http://www. ssaandco. com/) is a reflection of this wider mandate."

Fuente, the former CEO of Office Depot, manages the firm with CEO Scott Miller, the former chief executive of Hyatt, and company president David Niles, a former consultant with Booz, Allen & Hamilton. The company works with more than 60 of the largest businesses around the world. Mikel Harry, the father of the original Six Sigma concept at Motorola serves as the firm's chief knowledge officer and Ram Charan, author of some of the most influential books in business, serves on SSA & Co.'s advisory board.

"We detected a real hunger in the marketplace for process improvement that delivers results in weeks, not years," said Miller. "For many companies, this is a sea change. They still think of process management as multi-year commitment requiring dozens of business leaders to focus exclusively on process. Under our new banner, we can show them smarter, more efficient solutions while continuing the highest standard of Lean Six Sigma training and coaching."

Through its work with some of the world's largest companies, SSA & Company saw many executives abandoning cumbersome process management projects because of the excess time and the complex engineering perspective. Yet invariably, these companies facing intense global competition discovered they still had a deep need for better process in order to remain competitive. For the last number of years, SSA & Co. has been working with such companies to demonstrate that process management, correctly pursued, can drive organic innovation, increase margins, and deliver growth.

"What we keep hearing from business leaders is that they need a way to align their business processes, engage employees, and show results quickly," explains David Niles. "They are astonished when we have demonstrated that significant savings and improvements can be achieved in under 90 days."

Under its new name, SSA & Company., with its offices in the U. S., Europe, and Asia, will continue to work across multiple industry sectors including financial and professional services, retail and consumer products, pharmaceuticals and healthcare, energy, technology and communications, and industrial products for the largest Fortune 500 companies and leading private equity firms. "Our goal is to transform business through smarter process," said Niles.

For additional information about SSA & Company, please contact André König, Director New Business Development at +1 (212) 332 3790 or visit www. ssaandco. com.

About SSA & Company
Founded in 1994 by the progenitors of the Six Sigma revolution at Motorola, SSA & Company developed the Six Sigma methodology, teaching companies like GE, Allied-Signal, DuPont, and Merrill Lynch how to achieve a higher level of quality and sustain it over time. Since then, SSA & Company has helped hundreds of companies, both large and small, improve how they operate, delivering billions of dollars of bottom-line benefits through higher margins, revenue growth, and more efficient use of capital.

SSA & Company wrote the original Lean Six Sigma curriculum in the early 1990s and has customized, deployed and supported it more than any other firm. In addition to consulting services, the firm offers a variety of training options, including customized on-site training, open-enrollment courses, and tailored curriculum development and digital training, through The Academy. The corporate consulting (http://www. ssaandco. com/) firm – formerly known as Six Sigma Academy – recently changed its name to forge a new identity (http://www. ssaandco. com/).

Bellaire Rotary Targets Gulfton Area for 2nd Annual Free Immunization Clinic

Bellaire Rotary Targets Gulfton Area for 2nd Annual Free Immunization Clinic

Bellaire/Southwest Rotary Club announces its second annual free immunization clinic and health fair for Gulfton, to be held on July 22, 2006, from 9:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m., in the air conditioned gymnasium of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood, Houston, TX 77081 (corner of Bellaire Blvd & Chimney Rock). Participation is on a first-come, first-serve, basis, with pre-registration available to confirm a spot.

Houston / Bellaire, TX (PRWEB) June 13, 2006

Picture in your mind thousands of children suffering the ravages of Polio, Rubella, Diphtheria, or Meningitis. Are you imagining Central America? Rwanda? Perhaps, Cambodia? Think closer to home. Think Southwest Houston’s high-risk Gulfton neighborhood, where more than 15,000 children are crammed into 3.4 square miles. Nearly three-fourths of them have not been inoculated against preventable, highly communicable diseases. Not surprisingly, this impoverished, mainly immigrant neighborhood has one of the lowest immunization levels in the nation.

In response to this pressing need, Bellaire/Southwest Rotary Club announces its second annual free immunization clinic and health fair for Gulfton, to be held on July 22, 2006, from 9:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m., in the air conditioned gymnasium of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 6921 Chetwood, Houston, TX 77081 (corner of Bellaire Blvd & Chimney Rock). Participation is on a first-come, first-serve, basis, with pre-registration available to confirm a spot. Families may pre-register their children in person at the Office of Holy Ghost Church or the law offices of Wagoner Burgert LLP, 5202 Spruce Street, Bellaire, TX, 77401, Monday - Friday, during regular business hours. If not all attendees can be served, information regarding alternate immunization locations will be provided. Rotary volunteers will also weigh, measure, and calculate body mass for each child and provide preventative health information.

"Refreshments, games, and entertainment should take some of the sting out of the shots," project chairman Nan Wagoner said, "and our club is also underwriting school supply vouchers for the families."

"We are still recruiting volunteer nurse practitioners with immunization experience for this year'," said Wagoner. "Last year close to 200 Gulfton children were vaccinated, and we're hoping for even more this time around." All shots recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and required for school enrollment will be available.

The Rotary Club of Bellaire Southwest Houston is one of 31,000 Rotary clubs in more than 165 countries providing humanitarian services and promoting goodwill around the globe. Bellaire/Southwest Rotary meets at 12:00 Noon on Thursdays at Braeburn Country Club, 8100 Bissonnet, Houston, TX 77074, and informtion regarding grants, membership, and projects may be found online at www. bellairesw. org.

Tsunami Children Prone to High Risks of Disabilities. Scientist of the Year Launches a Gigantic Mission and Seeks Help for Tsunami AreasÂ’ Poor Babies

Tsunami Children Prone to High Risks of Disabilities. Scientist of the Year Launches a Gigantic Mission and Seeks Help for Tsunami AreasÂ’ Poor Babies.

World renowned epidemiologist Prof. Dr. Aurangzeb Hafi has voluntarily conducted an extensive research in Tsunami Affected coastal areas and has given alarming details.

(PRWEB) August 29, 2005

In ramification of the century’s most devastating disaster ‘Tsunami’, various coordinated efforts are being made by the Governments of the affected countries with technical inputs from international organizational and institutional platforms, including UN, UNICEF, WHO, WFP and several other agencies.

Amongst other institutions, Helen Keller Intl. and Sir Aurangzeb Intl. are the two, which are principally focusing upon the likelihood of different types of physical and mental disabilities in Tsunami affected areas.

Several fact-finding surveys have been conducted during the last 8 months of the aftermath of Tsunami, however the credit goes to an independent Pakistani researcher for conducting the ‘First’ Epidemiological fact-finding and need analysis survey for the likelihood of different types of abnormalities in newly born and unborn babies.

The survey, known as the Tsunami ‘Child Retardation Risk Assessment’ [CRRA] was primarily devised to detect, examine and gauge the risk of child retardation in the children below 5 years as well as in the unborn babies, in the post disaster situation. It also covered the essential analysis of drinking water and its contaminations, after the crucially poisonous water being absorbed by the soil.

All of the research work during CRRA & CRRM, which, actually requires a number of institutional superfluity, has been executed almost single-handedly by the splendid researcher of Pakistan.

Pof. Dr. Aurangzeb Hafi is the first South Asian, whose name has been inscribed in the Roll of Honor in The Sovereign Royal Order of The Knights of Peace and Justice, and has been honored and knighted in the category of 'de jure'. He was also one of the six researchers short-listed out of 1376 scientists belonging to 900 universities of 60 countries, and was declared as Man of the Year in Interdisciplinary Sciences.

On completion of the first epidemiological survey, Dr. Hafi has given an alert alarm for a vulnerable risk increase of child retardation in newly-born and unborn babies. He has emphasized upon the need of immediate action to be taken by the World Health Organization and UNICEF for this specific issue.

To bring the situation under control, some special immune enhancing and nutritional supplements should be developed and should be exclusively formulated, by focusing upon, and according to the specified needs of the post disaster situation, he mentioned.

The findings of [CRRA] survey along with the elucidated suggestions made by the researcher, have been made available to conscientious international agencies for further actions to be taken upon. The TsunamiÂ’s CRRA Survey has provided core nucleus, on which response coordination can be built. It has provided important and major issues to be raised up and dealt with.

On humanitarian basis, he is willing to extend his services voluntarily, and ready to cooperate with governmental and non governmental organizations to help the victims of Tsunami, he added.

Dr Hafi told that the extensive research project was a joint venture of two non governmental platforms namely MAVSO Intl. and English Biscuit Manufacturers ( Pvt ) Limited of Pakistan as a contribution from Pakistanis, for the Tsunami victims. EBM is bearing all of his expenses of lodging-boarding and air-traveling, while MAVSO Intl. is responsible for the instrumentations and equipmentations regarding the project, he told.

To a question, he said that he is rendering his research services merely on humanitarian basis and not paid by any local or international agency.

The officials of CSGU have reportedly confirmed that he has also voluntarily declined the remunerations for his services, offered by Sri Lanka, saying that the money of his wages should be spent upon poor retardad children of the Tsunami camps.

“All services rendered by me should be considered as a sympathetic and humanitarian ‘token’ from my country…Pakistan, and not only from my own individual self “, stated the task executer researcher Prof. Aurangzeb Hafi.

Prof. Hafi has designed a well-practicable program to address the impeded setback of the specific matter.

Now a days he is on board to embark upon tracking the next phase of his project, i. e. Tsunami ‘Child Retardation Risk Management’ [CRRM]. In this phase of the project, he has also planned to provide the maximum possible quantity of the recommended nutritional supplements in Aceh, Sumatra, and Sri Lanka in an earliest possible timeframe and seeks for philanthropic help by local, regional and international institutions, donors and organizational platforms.

The esteemed contributions of The Tsunami 'Child Retardation Risk Assessment & Management' Projects have fetched a prudently benevolent laurel, with a justly respectable visibility of Pakistan at an international echelon.

Diverse City Photography Exhibit "Lancaster Squared" Shows Faces of Lancaster During Annual Art Walk

Diverse City Photography Exhibit "Lancaster Squared" Shows Faces of Lancaster During Annual Art Walk

The Lancaster Squared series, which is an exploration of diversity, will comprise 100 photographs of Lancaster city residents. Twelve initial portraits will be on exhibit during this year's annual Lancaster Art Walk, beginning Friday April 20 through April 22, and afterwards through May 4.

Lancaster, PA (PRWEB) April 13, 2007

The Lancaster City Human Relations Commission and fine art portrait photographer Barbara Kyne have joined forces to present a body of work titled Lancaster Squared.

When completed the Lancaster Squared series, which is an exploration of diversity, will comprise 100 photographs of Lancaster city residents. Twelve initial portraits will be on exhibit at Godfrey Advertising, 40 N. Christian St., Lancaster, during this year's annual Lancaster Art Walk, beginning Friday April 20 through April 22, and afterwards through May 4.

"We believe the photography series is one way we can show and express the diversity and the richness that exists right here in Lancaster city," said Lancaster City Human Relations Commission Chair, Albert Gonzalez.

"No matter what language you speak, looking into the face of another person makes a connection. We're very hopeful that both city residents and those who live outside the city boundaries will want to see this exhibition and learn a little more about who their neighbors really are," said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez along with city councilman Nelson Polite, 7th grader Zoe Brown Buckwalter and behavioral healthcare worker Lori Weaver are subjects of the "first four" portraits. Each of them has since chosen two other city residents who will become part of Lancaster Squared. Each new person photographed will in turn choose two more people until 100 photographs are made.

The decision to have city residents choose who will be photographed rather than having the commission or any other group select subjects, is central to the process said portrait photographer Barbara Kyne of Lime Street Studios. "Part of what I hope we help uncover and convey with this body of work is each person's individual humanity and dignity, and the connections that exist between people and across some of the more obvious racial and ethic boundaries. Faces are amazing. They're the way we've recognized and responded to one another since the beginning of time. They're elemental."

Commenting on the project Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray said, "Lancaster Squared fits perfectly with the mission of the City's Human Relations Commission, to further understanding and relations between the various cultural, racial, ethnic, and economic groups in the city and county."

"With just over 56,000 residents in the city we have a vibrant mix of people from many races and ethnicities, all of whom add a distinct element to life in the city, but many of whom do not know each other or about each others culture. A project like Lancaster Squared is one way to open new lines of communication and it is my hope that we can find a permanent public home for the exhibit once it is completed."

During Art Walk, opening hours at Godfrey Advertising (wheelchair accessible) are Friday April 20, 5-8pm, Saturday April 21, 10 am-6 pm and Sunday April 22, 12-5 pm. Through Friday May 4, opening hours are Monday-Thursday 8:30 am-5 pm, Friday 8:30 am-4 pm.

TeleHealth Services Announces TIGR On-Demand Video Patient Education Version 7 Unveiling at HIMSS 2009

TeleHealth Services Announces TIGR On-Demand Video Patient Education Version 7 Unveiling at HIMSS 2009

TeleHealth Services, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare-grade televisions and on-demand patient and staff interactive education solutions, today announced they will be introducing the new version of their TIGR® system at the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference in Chicago.

Raleigh, NC (Vocus) April 3, 2009

TeleHealth Services, the nation’s leading provider of healthcare-grade televisions and on-demand patient and staff interactive education solutions, today announced they will be introducing the new version of their TIGR® system at the annual Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Conference in Chicago.

TIGR, TeleHealth’s video on-demand patient and staff education system, has been installed in hospitals across the country for more than 12 years. From delivering condition-specific educational videos to a patient’s in-room television, to automated service recovery, TeleHealth has helped more than 400 hospitals across the country increase patient satisfaction and improve workflow management.

The Version 7 enhancements will enable TIGR to be the only interactive patient education solution on the market capable of delivering educational content throughout the recovery continuum. Via the TIGR@Home module, the patient’s teachable moment is extended from diagnosis through post-discharge by allowing patients to interact with the hospital via their home PC. Patients will be able to view prescribed content, take tests and surveys and provide feedback, all from the comfort of their home. In addition to the TIGR@Home module, Version 7 upgrades include:
Clinical management interface for CMS Core Measure monitoring  Built-in JCAHO & HCAHPS survey sets  Easy navigation graphical interface  Enhanced reporting features  HR management interface for continuing staff education and compliance tracking

“The newest version of TIGR was created to offer a multi-dimensional approach to the recovery plan,” said Richard Bootes, VP of Development for TeleHealth. “We recognize the uniqueness of each patient, and the added functionality allows hospitals to design a care and recovery program based on the individual needs and circumstances of each patient. By providing the transitional support and reaching patients at additional teachable moments, individuals receive a higher quality of care through an integrated program of self-awareness, understanding and support. In turn, TIGR helps hospitals reduce remittance rates, exceed accreditation standards and maximize reimbursements.”

“We are very proud of the most recent enhancements to our TIGR system,” said George Fleming, CEO of TeleHealth. “Technology is a driving force in the healthcare industry today, and the 2009 HIMSS conference provides the perfect vehicle for our release. Our goal is to provide our clients with a system that will aid them in improving performance and delivering a high quality of healthcare to their patients.”

Please visit TeleHealth Services, booth #6842, at HIMSS 2009, April 4-8 in Chicago, IL.

Older Job Seekers Swarm Seniors4Hire. org in Search of Jobs

Older Job Seekers Swarm Seniors4Hire. org in Search of Jobs

Older job seekers 50 and over want jobs and are going online to Seniors4Hire. org to find them.

Huntington Beach, CA (PRWEB) January 27, 2004 -

—More than 150,000 visits have been recorded on www. Seniors4Hire. org, an online career center for employers that actively recruit workers 50 and over, since its launch August 2003.

With the aging of the baby boomer population the number of job seekers over 50 is increasing. The U. S. Department of Labor reports that between 2001-2010 the number of workers age 55 and over will increase 46.6%. Some continue to work past retirement age and others are forced to seek work for financial reasons.

“The 50 and over group is now the fastest growing segment on the Internet and they are going online in search of jobs,” says Renee Ward, founder of the service and a seasoned recruitment advertising and staffing executive.

Ward says, “We expected active senior citizens to sign up for our free job seeker membership. And while we have some of these, the bulk of our membership is talented people who were laid off, forced into early retirement, or burned-out by being overworked and under-appreciated by their present employers.”

The demographics of Seniors4Hire. org members look like this:

Gender: 45% Female, 55% Male

Age: 20% 50-55, 40% 56-65, 40% 66+

Schooling: 15% 12 or less, 50% 12-16, 35% 16+

Type of Work: 45% Part-Time, 55% Full-Time

Geography: 25% East, 20% Midwest, 20% West, 35% South

Members of Seniors4Hire. org are seeking jobs in a plethora of categories. The top categories are: accounting, business services, computer programming, customer service, health services, management, merchandising, office admin, property management, retail, sales, security, teaching, training and travel related services.

Employers can promote their companies and post job openings for $36.00 or less with an annual membership.

“While age bias is still alive and well, it is becoming less so,” says Ward. “Over-qualified has often been used as a euphemism for too old. More businesses are realizing the value of hiring and retaining the older workforce. Companies will always need people that can help them stay in business and grow.”

Seniors4Hire. org has this advice for older job seekers.

-Stay current or get current in your field or industry. Be knowledgeable of the latest buzz, new technologies and best practices.

-Resumes should go back no more than 10 years, be tailored for the specific position, written for electronic scanners, and emphasize the credentials needed by the company.

-Once you reach the interview stage, donÂ’t walk in assuming that you wonÂ’t be given fair consideration.

-Show your eagerness, excitement, passion and vitality.

-DonÂ’t rest on your past laurels. Demonstrate how your skills and accomplishments can contribute to the companyÂ’s bottom line today and in the future.

Television Personality Kathy Griffin Sues Elderly Neighbors

Television Personality Kathy Griffin Sues Elderly Neighbors

Kathy Griffin, star of Bravo's "My Life on the D-List", has sued her elderly neighbors for construction problems at her $2.85 million Hollywood Hills home.

Los Angeles, Calif. (PRWEB) April 24, 2006

Television personality and star of “My Life on the D-List”, Kathy Griffin, has sued her elderly neighbors for construction problems at her $2.85 million home Hollywood Hills. The home, named Wings, was featured in the February 2006 issue of W magazine. Ms. Griffin told W that Wings is “her A-list home.” Wings was also featured in the August 8, 2005 issue of In Touch magazine, and it has been used in many of Ms. Griffin’s television appearances.

Wings was built by 78-year-old Bernard Subkoski and his 71-year-old wife, Celeste Dickinson. The couple, who have been together for 46 years, purchased the property for Wings in the late 1990s. Mr. Subkoski, a retired Los Angeles City fireman, designed Wings himself. “Wings was my dream home,” said Mr. Subkoski, who is also a retired stage and movie actor. “I called it Wings because it looks like a bird in flight. It took me four years to build, and I spared no expense. My wife and I had planned this home for many years. Celeste has macular degeneration, and I broke my back. For health reasons, we had to sell it.”

“Wings broke Barne’s heart,” said Ms. Dickinson. “We still live across the street, and every day is a reminder to Barne that he couldn’t live in his dream house. This lawsuit really comes as a shock to us,” she continued, “because when we sold this house to Kathy, she agreed that any problems with the house would be handled through a private judge. At our age, and with our physical problems, a lawsuit is an incredible strain.”

“I was surprised by the lawsuit as well,” said Cynthia Coulter Mulvihill, the couple’s attorney. “I obtained a copy of Ms. Griffin’s case from the Internet this weekend and reviewed it. Even though I advised Ms. Griffin’s attorneys that my clients are not developers, her lawsuit is based on a 2004 California law that applies to people in the business of building homes (Civil Code §895 et. seq.). Furthermore, Ms. Griffin’s attorneys attached a copy of the agreement that required Ms. Griffin to use arbitration, so she must have known about using a private judge.”

SOUNDTEC TECHNOLOGY TURNS HEARING AID MARKET ON ITS EAR Implantable Hearing Device Company Foresees Growing Demand

SOUNDTEC TECHNOLOGY TURNS HEARING AID MARKET ON ITS EAR Implantable Hearing Device Company Foresees Growing Demand

22 million Americans need but do not have a hearing aid. Hearing aid technology - based on amplification only - has remained much the same for decades. SOUNDTEC has developed revolutionary new technology that solves the problems that plague traditional hearing aids - all for about the same cost as a top-of-the-line hearing aid. Implantation takes only 30 minutes and can be performed in a doctor's office.

(PRWEB) April 19, 2002

(OKLAHOMA CITY, OK) In 2002, Americans will spend about $2.6 billion on hearing devices. Since the market traditionally grows by 5% annually, sales of hearing aids or devices for the next decade could reach $35 billion in the United States alone. As baby boomers become golden-agers, the market will grow even more dramatically.

Since the first cave man cupped a hand around his ear to hear better, hearing aid methodology – to simply make sounds louder – has changed very little. But amplification, while it can be a reasonably effective treatment for the hard of hearing, has many inherent problems. These problems have contributed to the traditional lack of acceptance of hearing aids by the hard of hearing population. Though about one-tenth of the American population (28.6 million) have trouble hearing, only 6.6 million own hearing aids.

That may soon change. Privately held SOUNDTEC, inc., has recently introduced non-amplification technology they believe will revolutionize the hearing health industry. The device is not a hearing aid. Rather than simply amplify sound, SOUNDTECÂ’s FDA-approved Direct System processor turns sound into electromagnetic waves which are received by a tiny rare-earth magnet implanted in the middle ear. The magnet passes the sound on to the inner ear in the form of vibrations, a process that simulates healthy hearing.

The result is clearer, more natural sound, and a drastic reduction in problems associated with conventional hearing aids. Implantation of the tiny magnet takes less than 30 minutes, and can be performed in an outpatient clinic under local anesthetic. This is much less invasive than other implantable devices. The Direct System is also much more affordable, costing about the same as top-quality digital hearing aids currently on the market.

SOUNDTEC believes the combination of clearer, more natural sound, a comparatively simple implantation procedure, and affordable cost will have a powerful effect on the hearing aid market – particularly with those who have resisted hearing devices in the past.

As the forerunner and patent-holder of this innovative technology, SOUNDTEC is in a position to take full advantage of this expanding market universe. SOUNDTECÂ’s Direct System provides clear, high-fidelity sounds without the problems associated with traditional hearing aids – feedback, distortion and occlusion. Feedback is the squealing or whistling noise associated with hearing aids. Many hearing aid wearers also experience distortion, when words or sounds seem muffled or garbled. Finally, tightly fitting hearing aids can cause occlusion, or the feeling that oneÂ’s ears are plugged.

Millions of people could benefit from The Direct System. Anyone who is eighteen years of age or older, and who suffers from moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss (nerve damage) is a potential candidate for The Direct System.

SOUNDTEC was recently honored as OklahomaÂ’s Innovator of the Year by the Journal Record Business Publication. SOUNDTEC was co-founded in 1997 by Kenneth Dormer, Ph. D., and Jack Hough, M. D., a renowned otologist and founder of the Hough Ear Institute, one of the worldÂ’s pre-eminent hearing research centers. Dr. Hough was also first co-investigator on the Cochlear Implant device for the profoundly deaf.

SOUNDTECÂ’s proprietary technology is protected by three U. S. patents and has patent protection in nine countries. Today, over 350 hearing health professionals throughout the United States, Canada and some foreign countries have been trained to offer The Direct System implantable hearing device.

Discount Health Benefits Plans: A Sensible Alternative to Traditional Insurance Plans

Discount Health Benefits Plans: A Sensible Alternative to Traditional Insurance Plans

A recent poll revealed that over 70% of Americans are either uninsured or underinsured. Surprisingly, the majority are from middle class households. Many of who are not offered health benefits by their employer or whom can’t afford the high-priced insurance premiums being offered.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 24, 2006

In some states, there is an epidemic of children whose teeth are slowly rottening due to the lack of proper dental care. To help bring relief to this growing crisis, discount health care benefits providers have emerged. These companies do not provide health insurance, but they give an alternative that allows consumers to receive discounted fees per service. Unlike traditional insurance plans, these companies often have little or no exclusions, such as pre-existing conditions. Another plus is that consumers with immediate health care needs, can usually be seen by a doctor without having to wait for their coverage to “kick in”.

A potential drawback to discount health benefits plan is that consumers will pay for services upfront or at the time of service; unless other arrangements are made with that individual provider. This, in contrary to paying a co-pay or deductible at the time of service. Consumers with flexible spending accounts or medical savings accounts will be able to take advantage of this circumstance.

In some situations, depending on your health care provider’s policies, consumers have been able to use both the discount health plan alongside their insurance for even deeper savings. For example, you go into the dentist office for an extraction. The bill is $300. You hand your discount card to the insurance department, she gives you the discount, which normally ranges from 50 – 80%. This cuts your bill by up to $240! Leaving you with $60 left to pay. You pay the $60. Then file a claim with your insurance company for the $60. Let’s say your insurance company pays 80% of your bill. They will refund you $48 (80%), leaving you with a net bill of only $12, for what would have cost $300 normal price, or $60 with your insurance alone.

While some consumers are struggling with the high and growing price of insurance, others are discovering the savings of discount health benefits plans. By the year 2010, it is predicted that consumer driven health care, will be the future, leaving traditional insurance plans, to be a thing of the past.
