MedFolio Launches Innovative Electronic Pillbox Targeted For Aging Baby Boomer Generation

MedFolio Launches Innovative Electronic Pillbox Targeted For Aging Baby Boomer Generation

The MedFolio Medication Management Device signifies a time when the old-fashioned pillbox meets the 21st Century. Innovative pillbox technology assists the patient to be an independent and autonomous advocate for their healthcare in the area of medication management.

Burlingame, CA (PRWEB) December 8, 2010

The MedFolio Medication Management Device signifies a time when the old-fashioned pillbox meets the 21st Century. Innovative pillbox technology assists the patient to be an independent and autonomous advocate for their healthcare in the area of medication management. Over the next several years, our current healthcare system will be challenged by the population surge of aging baby-boomers requiring acute and chronic healthcare services. According to the report released by the CDC (Centers of Disease Control), The State of Aging and Health in America 2007, the number of Americans aged 65 years and older will more than double by year 2030 to 71 million, comprising 20 percent of the US population. Additionally by year 2030, the nation’s health care spending is projected to increase by 25% due to these demographic shifts. An enhanced focus on promoting and preserving the health of older adults is essential if we are to effectively address the health and economic challenges of an aging society.

“The introduction of the MedFolio device will not only play an integral role in improving medication compliance by providing advanced medication dosing reminders. Additionally, this device will offer the patient and all their healthcare providers accountability for the chronic disease medications prescribed, and will empower the patient in knowing that they can understand and effectively communicate their medication utilization,” said Julie Fulmer-Mason, President of MedFolio, LLC. “In the end, our philosophy is simple…giving the patient the ability to take control of their medications in order to improve the quality of
Care they receive during healthcare visits.”

The MedFolio device was designed by a pharmacist who has effectively worked with patients who have medication compliance issues. Therefore, the MedFolio device finally addresses the needs of patients, caregivers, and their healthcare providers, and strives to keep medication control simple. One of the most important design features was the need for the entire device to be compact and portable for easy transport to medical appointments, but also permitting patients to remove individual daily pillboxes in order to carry a short-term supply of medications for meetings, travel, and leisure activities. Secondly, the device was designed to be a communication tool between patients and their healthcare providers. The unique built-in pill identification system is a portfolio of every medication stored in the device, thereby giving patients the confidence to engage in medication discussions with their healthcare providers. Medication regimen changes are more easily comprehended by patients when healthcare providers can communicate with the use of visual aids, such as pill samples of each medication, instead of challenging brand and generic drug names. Lastly, the MedFolio device is accompanied by an easy-to-use software program that allows patients to customize the device to their specific medication regimens and dosing times. The medication information stored into the memory of the device will initiate audio alerts, visual lighting reminders, and electronic messaging reminders (e-mail and text message) for each scheduled medication dosing time.

The Baby Boomer Generation has always been independent, autonomous, and active. As they age, their active lifestyle should not be hampered by an increasing arsenal of medications. The MedFolio Medication Management Device is an organized method of incorporating medications into daily living, and empowers patients to be an advocate for their healthcare in the area of medication management.

TRŪ Chocolate Sensations Launches Healthy Chocolate

TRŪ Chocolate Sensations Launches Healthy Chocolate

TRŪ Chocolate. It's all about the chocolate! The "Guilt Free" Chocolate Choice Completely Organic. Sugarless: Sweetened with Xylitol. TRŪ Chocolate may be the most healthy and tasty chocolate that has ever been created. This delicious treat is ideal for the entire family.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 4, 2008

Dr. Aharon Friedman, a world-renowned physicist, found at the age of 47 that his health and life were in grave peril. At five feet, 11 inches tall, he weighed 310 pounds -- he was not only obese, he had diabetes. Dr. Friedman's physician advised him that he was in immediate danger of losing his life.

Rather than report to the emergency room as ordered, Dr. Friedman began to apply his scientific investigation skills. The physicist researched the chemistry and metabolic aspects of weight loss and diabetes. Implementing his own remedies, Dr. Friedman lost over 100 pounds -- and his diabetes -- in one year.

Originally formulated for diabetic and obese children, TRŪ Chocolate™ may well be the healthiest chocolate ever created. The health benefits of eating TRŪ Chocolate™ seem unbelievable and many are calling it the "Health Food Chocolate." TRŪ Chocolate™ claims to not only taste good, but also be good for you.

TRŪ Chocolate™ is a certified organic sugarless chocolate sweetened only with natural sweeteners. Many chocolates making health claims are sweetened with artificial sweeteners and contain processed ingredients which reduce the value of cocoa.

TRŪ Chocolate™ maintains all the health-promoting benefits of the original cocoa and more. The proprietary herbal formula in TRŪ Chocolate™ boosts the health benefits of simple cocoa. Better yet, TRŪ Chocolate™ is unique in its abundance of antioxidants -- an unprecedented ORAC rating of 3040 per piece. ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and is a method of measuring antioxidant capacities of different foods. Blueberries, the ORAC leader of the pack, provide just 1020 ORAC units per 3/8 cup.

TRŪ Chocolate™ has been found to be highly effective in weight-loss programs. While satisfying chocolate cravings, it reduces the appetite. The intriguing chocolate wafer also encourages water-drinking by making plain water taste like sweet chocolate for approximately 15 minutes after eating it -- an ingenious food gimmick indeed.

The ingredients used in TRŪ Chocolate™ help to regulate blood sugar levels. TRŪ Chocolate™ is sugarless and sweetened with Xylitol -- a natural sugar that is nearest to sugar.

Xylitol is used by the body to produce energy while not raising blood sugar levels. Xylitol also retards tooth decay bacteria, making TRŪ Chocolate™ safe for the dental health of children and adults. What more could a chocoholic want.

TRŪ Chocolate™ is brand new to the southeast market and is available exclusively through TRŪ Chocolate™ Independent Distributors.

In Final Hour Prior to Litigation, Angel MedFlight's Air Ambulance Team Overturns Decision by Major Insurance Company

In Final Hour Prior to Litigation, Angel MedFlight's Air Ambulance Team Overturns Decision by Major Insurance Company

Insurance company initially denied air ambulance claim, but has now reversed decision and will cover patient's life flight

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) August 31, 2009

Last year, Sally (a patient suffering from end stage liver failure) was in need of life flight (http://www. angelmedflight. com/) transportation to be evaluated for a liver transplant. Her doctors told her she needed to receive the evaluation in order to get on the transplant list. Travel by ground ambulance or commercial flight were not an option due to her condition. Her health insurance company told her they would not cover the air ambulance (http://www. angelmedflight. com/) medical transport. But last week, after four appeals and countless hours of work by Angel MedFlight's patient advocates, that decision was reversed. The insurance company will now pay the full amount of the air ambulance service provided by Angel MedFlight.

"When health insurance companies deny authorization every air ambulance company runs for the hills," said Jeremy Freer, Angel MedFlight CEO. "If they cannot get paid in advance, either from insurance or from the patient's family, they will not conduct the life flight. That's one of the big differences that sets Angel MedFlight apart from other air ambulance services. We will provide the care needed by the patient when no one else will."

Like many health insurance companies, Sally's insurer initially refused to approve the air ambulance service (http://www. angelmedflight. com/) on the grounds that it was "not medically necessary." At that point, she was faced with two options: (1) giving up the chance of a transplant, or (2) taking the time to try and raise thousands of dollars for the life flight. "Sally may have had options but, sadly, she did not have extra time," Freer said. "That is when Angel MedFlight stepped in, reviewed her insurance policy and conducted the flight."

After conducting the life flight], Angel MedFlight's legal team, led by attorney Kelly LoCascio, Esq., went to bat for Sally. The claim was governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), a federal law governing most health insurance policies that LoCascio says most patients and even many lawyers do not understand.

"Unfortunately, some health insurance companies frequently deny coverage for health benefits when they should be paid," LoCascio said. "They deny claims knowing patients will not understand the intricacies of ERISA law and often do not have the resources to hire a lawyer. Sometimes the patient is too involved with their health or just tired of the fight, and subsequently will miss crucial appeal deadlines. We take on the battle so our patients don't have to. In Sally's case, the system worked; Angel MedFlight performed the service, the insurer denied benefits, and after much exhaustive effort Angel MedFlight ensured that the insurance company carried out their obligations."

About Angel MedFlight Worldwide Air Ambulance Services:
Founded in 2006, Angel MedFlight is a full-service provider for medical ground and air ambulance (http://www. angelmedflight. com/) transport. Part of Angel MedFlight's mission is to fulfill the urgent need for integrity and excellence in the air ambulance industry. Only the best aircraft, equipment and personnel are used. Angel MedFlight delivers on their promises, and goes to any lengths to make patient transport as smooth, comfortable and worry-free as possible.

Swisslog and Cardinal Health Form Strategic Partnership

Swisslog and Cardinal Health Form Strategic Partnership

Swisslog, a leading provider of automated materials transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals, today announced that it has formed a co-marketing agreement with Cardinal Health, a leading healthcare services company. The new agreement will allow Swisslog and Cardinal Health to work together to help hospitals improve efficiency, reduce medication errors and manage the medication inventory process.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) October 26, 2010

Swisslog, a leading provider of automated materials transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals, today announced that it has formed a co-marketing agreement with Cardinal Health, a leading healthcare services company. The new agreement will allow Swisslog and Cardinal Health to work together to help hospitals improve efficiency, reduce medication errors and manage the medication inventory process.

As part of this agreement, Cardinal Health will integrate its distribution services with Swisslog's PillPick, BoxPicker, ATP High-Speed Packagers, Inventory Management Software and Beacon Pick-To-Light Shelving, as additional solutions to improve safety, workflow and optimize the hospital pharmacy supply chain. As a result, Cardinal Health can now provide hospitals with a closed-loop automated inventory system for medication management, from loading dock through the pharmacy to the patient bedside.

PillPick is a fully automated robot that packages and barcodes oral solids, ampoules and cups into unit doses, and stores and dispenses on demand. The partnership with Cardinal Health will allow pharmacies supplied by Cardinal to seamlessly package unit doses. When requested, the unit doses are assembled on a PickRing for dispensing. Swisslog's patented PickRing technology, which includes patient-specific medication information, is the safest and most efficient order fulfillment solution on the market. PillPick significantly reduces the chance of dosing errors by eliminating human touch.

BoxPicker, a safer and faster alternative to carousel technology, is a high-density, automated medication storage and retrieval system. BoxPicker offers high-speed picking and secure access for sensitive medications and narcotics. It is available in a dual temperature module, enabling it to store refrigerated and non-refrigerated medications in the same machine. Cardinal Health customers utilizing the Cold Chain® refrigerated medication delivery process will be able to transfer temperature-sensitive medication directly into BoxPicker for secure storage.

The compact ATP Series packages and barcodes fast-moving oral solids. The bar-coded unit and multi-dose packages, which can easily be integrated with BoxPicker and Inventory Management Software, result in increased patient safety and more efficient cart-fill processes.

Beacon Pick-To-Light Shelving for inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacies ensures customer safety in a compact storage and retrieval solution via a unique pick-to-light system. Beacon stores more drugs in less space, while reducing labor, inventory costs and customer wait time. It organizes medications by activity and guides picking and stocking with innovative light direction and barcode verification technology.

Swisslog's Inventory Management Software (IMS) optimizes pharmacy inventory by providing a "perpetual inventory" approach specifically designed for hospital medication flow. IMS automates reordering of drugs directly with Cardinal. All inventory movements from the warehouse to dispensing, stock levels, remote inventory, and replenishment orders are recorded and tracked through integration with Cardinal distribution.

"Swisslog's products and our agreement with Cardinal Health will allow our healthcare customers to improve patient safety and pharmacy efficiency," said Ben Hinnen, vice president of Swisslog's Automated Drug Management Systems business unit. "This is a natural step in Swisslog's effort to provide customers with complete pharmacy automation solutions."

Swisslog Healthcare Solutions is the leading supplier of logistics automation solutions for healthcare facilities. Swisslog has installed automated materials transport and pharmacy automation systems in more than 3,000 hospitals around the world, including more than 2,000 in North America. Tia Hinton, Executive Director of AccessCBO states, “When we researched the insurance and wellness products and services available throughout the state of Georgia, we were disheartened to discover that a large number of very valuable life, health and wellness products available to the residents of Georgia have not been marketed in less advantaged communities. “Our goal is to go into the areas that are often hardest hit by loss of income due to sickness, injury and/or death of the primary/secondary wage earner and first help educate residents on the importance of leading healthy life styles, eating right, exercising, getting rest and de-stressing plus provide residents, small business owners and workers with the products and services needed to overcome financial hardships should an unexpected illness or injury occur”.

Capella University Master's Specialization in School Counseling Receives State Approval

Graduation from a state-approved program is a licensure requirement in many states.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 31, 2008

Capella University (NASDAQ: CPLA), an accredited*, fully online university based in Minneapolis, announced that the Arizona Department of Education has approved Capella's master's specialization in School Counseling, designating it a "highly effective" program. As a result of the approval, graduates of Capella's Master of Science, School Counseling specialization, are automatically eligible to apply for certification as a school counselor in Arizona. "School counselors are important members of each student's academic team," said Kelly Coker, PhD, accreditation lead and core faculty in Capella's Counselor Education program. "They support student achievement by helping to address academic, social, and behavioral issues that may be hindering student success, and by working with students to develop plans for their future. We're pleased to play a role in educating professionals interested in pursuing this challenging career." The curriculum for Capella's School Counseling specialization is based on the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model.

"There is a strong need for qualified school counselors," added Amanda Costin, PhD, LMHC, lead faculty for Capella's School Counseling specialization. "More states are recognizing the importance of counseling and are mandating that their elementary schools employ school counselors. Expanded responsibilities for school counselors and increases in postsecondary and college enrollments are also expected to lead to increased employment opportunities for school counselors."

E-governance for Nonprofit Boards Gets Boost from BoardEffect

E-governance for Nonprofit Boards Gets Boost from BoardEffect

New tool for managing boards from Verve lets nonprofits focus on mission goals.

Cambridge, MD (PRWEB) November 9, 2007

Today at the Maryland Nonprofits' Annual Conference, Philadelphia-based Verve Internet Solutions announced the launch of BoardEffect®, the only web-based tool specifically designed to enable comprehensive e-governance for nonprofit boards of directors.

As many nonprofits evolve, executive directors, founders and other leaders find that managing and communicating with boards of directors becomes a more arduous task, and one that distracts from their original mission and goals.

The administrative work of managing a board - arranging meetings and materials, facilitating collaboration among the board and ensuring that all board members are fully informed about organizational history, policies and issues - can bog down even the most efficient of nonprofits. Plus, many organizations must also expend resources to maintain transparency and stay compliant with local, state and federal regulations governing nonprofit operations.

BoardEffect® is the first comprehensive e-governance tool (http://www. boardeffect. com/overview/) that enables nonprofits to reduce administrative burdens of managing boards and mitigate regulatory and legal risks.

The system's secure (http://www. boardeffect. com/overview/security. php), web-based portal allows leaders to log in from anywhere and work efficiently on governance tasks - providing the convenience of 24/7 access combined with top-level security of information. Each organization has its own unique portal, which includes dedicated online "workrooms" for board committees. BoardEffect® also offers easy-to-digest fundraising information through the Development Dashboard, easy-to-update board member contact information through the member directory, events scheduling and RSVP functionality, and online Meeting Book and Board Manual tools to keep members up to date on changes in policies, agendas, and more. A comprehensive Resource Library provides secure storage for all the board's important documents and data.

All of BoardEffect's tools (http://www. boardeffect. com/pdf/BoardEffect_Oct_07.pdf) can be easily customized to fit each nonprofit's unique needs and the technical proficiency of its board members.

As a Software as a Service (SaaS) model, BoardEffect's fee structure is based on a sliding subscription rate, depending on the size of the organization. Quarterly subscriptions start at $300.

"Too many nonprofits still rely on antiquated and risky approaches to managing their boards of directors," says Verve president Leanne Bergey, a 15-year veteran in bringing technology to nonprofits. "Updating printed briefing books, distributing detailed policy memos, and hours of administrative time all divert resources and attention from a nonprofit's original mission. We created BoardEffect® to help nonprofits refocus on mission goals and efficiently align their boards with those goals."

With e-governance practices already in place at many major corporations, a growing number of board members are already familiar with the use of web portals for e-governance. And, for those who are unfamiliar with e-governance, the transition is usually an easy one.

"When it comes to adopting new technology and practices, many nonprofits don't give their board members the credit they deserve," said Troy Woolley, Director of Development at The Enterprise Center, a Philadelphia-based minority business accelerator. "Most are already walking into board meetings with cell phones and Blackberries, so they are adept at learning new technologies. If they can log into an email account, they can use simple e-governance tools."

BoardEffect® and e-governance are new approaches to the age-old challenge of maintaining and enhancing relationships between nonprofits and their boards.

"In the end, any organization that can augment their ability to get the most out of their board will be better for it," said Mike Burns, Principal of Brody, Weiser Burns, a national nonprofit consulting firm. "BoardEffect® is the first comprehensive way for nonprofits to do that efficiently and painlessly. And, the boards of directors enjoy the ease and efficiency of collaborating and contributing online."

Once a nonprofit organization subscribes to BoardEffect®, Verve's dedicated support staff provides orientation webinars for both staff and board members. Nonprofit staff can do their own customization easily and Verve technical support is available around the clock for troubleshooting.

For more information and a demonstration of BoardEffect, visit www. boardeffect. com.

Warrior Custom Golf supports the Katelyn Atwell 10th Annual St. Jude Golf Classic

Warrior Custom Golf supports the Katelyn Atwell 10th Annual St. Jude Golf Classic

Warrior Custom Golf announced today that they will support Katelyn Atwell 10th Annual St. Jude Golf Classic. This golf tournament will benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and help their development in cutting-edge research and revolutionary discoveries for children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.

Irvine, CA (Vocus) February 17, 2010

Warrior Custom Golf is proud to announce their support of the 10th Annual St. Jude Golf Classic, held on April 19th in Jacksonville, Florida. Katelyn Atwell will be hosting the event in an attempt to raise three million dollars to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Katelyn Atwell was diagnosed with cancer at age twelve and got an infection in her brain that no one has ever survived for more than 48 hours. She spent a year and a half in a coma, had two strokes and now uses a crutch to walk. Even after all this she is still attempting to play in this years tournament some how.

"I would like to thank Warrior Custom Golf for being a part of the Katelyn Atwell St. Jude Golf Classic. St. Jude is a hospital that treats children with catastrophic diseases. I love the name Warrior since those of us who are patients live the life of a warrior. We fight everyday for our life. St. Jude gives us the tools and knowledge to be able to fight. I am so proud to have Warrior be a part of our tournament. I thank them for helping the kids at St. Jude," said Katelyn Atwell.

St. Jude is unlike any other pediatric treatment and research facility. Discoveries made there have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. With research and patient care under one roof, St. Jude is where some of today’s most gifted researchers are able to do science more quickly.

About Katelyn Atwell:

One chilly day in December of 2001, Sharon Atwell stood transfixed, watching her youngest daughter carry the Olympic torch through the streets of Memphis. Amid a deafening tumult of cheers, shouts, sirens and applause, 15-year-old Katelyn Atwell waved serenely at the crowd and, with a radiant smile, quietly passed the Olympic flame to her mother. Only two years earlier, Katelyn’s own flame had almost been extinguished by a bacterial infection that had catapulted her into the yawning void of a coma. Her journey back to the light has been slow, tortuous, and - in the words of many St. Jude researchers and health care providers - miraculous.

Universal Nutrition Launches Real Gains, the New Ultimate Weight Gainer Formula for Strength Athletes

Universal Nutrition Launches Real Gains, the New Ultimate Weight Gainer Formula for Strength Athletes

Universal Nutrition introduced Real Gains, the highest quality weight enhancement, lower sugar formula for strength athletes.

(PRWEB) November 9, 2004

Universal Nutrition, a sports nutrition and supplement manufacturer located in New Brunswick, New Jersey, introduced Real Gains. Real Gains is the highest quality weight enhancement, lower sugar formula.

Unlike the competition, Real Gains contains both “fast” ultrafiltrated whey isolates and “slow” micellar casein for the best of both worlds. Real Gains has only 5g of sugar and 52g of protein per serving. It is enhanced with inulin, a unique fiber that can enhance overall digestion and absorption of calories. Inulin is a FOS (fructo-oligosaccharide) or prebiotic which aids in mineral absorption of nutrients. Real Gains also contains high quality fats in the form of flaxseed oil, an essential fat, and MCTs, a higher performance fat that the body readily burns for energy.

We donÂ’t add any gums, thickeners, fillers, or binders to weigh the shake down or interfere with the absorption of nutrients found in Real Gains. With Real Gains, you can mix it with a spoon and get a shake that goes down easy and tastes great. Real Gains is currently available in two flavors, chocolate and vanilla ice cream. In virtually every respect, Real Gains is a better weight-gaining supplement than any other available for strength athletes.

For more than twenty years, Universal Nutrition has been a leading supplement manufacturer dedicated to developing breakthrough nutritional products that are excellent in quality and competitive in price. Universal manufactures its products in its state of the art product facilities and enjoys extensive international distribution. Cardiovascular Market and Utilization Indicators– New study released by HealthGroup West, LLC

Cardiovascular Market and Utilization Indicators– New study released by HealthGroup West, LLC

Recent national headlines indicate that cardiovascular care providers are coming under intense scrutiny. Despite tremendous advances in recent years in terms of saving lives and lowering cardiovascular death rates, government agencies and major payors are focusing a spotlight on provider utilization patterns and financial practices. Currently, many physicians and hospitals are under formal investigation for recommending possibly unnecessary surgeries and other cardiovascular procedures. Unfortunately, cardiovascular leaders are often ill equipped to respond to such investigations, lacking even basic tools to analyze and understand their own program data.

(PRWEB) January 16, 2003

In response to the need for sound data and analysis on the important issues of utilization rates, outcomes, and sustainable market growth, HealthGroup West has published a new white paper to help cardiologists and hospital cardiovascular administrators compare their local practices to their peers around the country. Free copies of “Cardiovascular Market Intelligence in the 21st Century—What doctors and hospitals need to know to ensure appropriate utilization rates, increase market share, and achieve sustainable growth” are available upon request from HealthGroup West. The study provides healthcare leaders with data and a framework to evaluate the performance of their own cardiovascular programs against the results of peers and competitors on broad measures of service volume growth, utilization trends, and financial competitiveness.

According to Kevin Curtis, a principal at HealthGroup West, “Cardiovascular care is a natural target for regulators and insurers because of the large amounts of money that are involved.” “Now more than ever providers of cardiovascular care need to be able to demonstrate that their actions dramatically improve the health of their patients and actually save the country money in terms of increased worker productivity and quality of life,” added Curtis.

“The opportunities for future growth in cardiovascular care are tremendous,” said Jeffrey Frazier, a founding partner of HealthGroup West, LLC. “But physicians and hospitals need to understand that they are vulnerable to unwarranted attacks if they do not adequately document what their programs do. The first step is to understand how your practices compare to other competitors in your market, and to your peers around the country. From this you can develop a solid base of information and can make any adjustments that are necessary and protect yourself from undue scrutiny,” added Frazier.

HealthGroup West has substantial experience in the development of cardiology, cardiac surgery, electrophysiology, and vascular medicine services. With clients ranging from physician practices and community hospitals to major industry players, HealthGroup West is one of the most knowledgeable groups of experts in the country on the development of all types of specialized cardiovascular services. The cardiovascular specialists of HealthGroup West hold advanced degrees in Business Administration, Health Policy, Information Science, Medicine, Law, Clinical Sciences, and others.

Monitoring & Conservation Are Crucial to Environment and Waste Management Industry, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts

Monitoring & Conservation Are Crucial to Environment and Waste Management Industry, According to a New Report by Global Industry Analysts

The environment and waste management industry is subject to various laws and regulations governing the environment across the world, including the treatment, handling and disposal of hazardous substances and the discharge of pollutants.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 16, 2008

The environment industry is concerned with treatment of waste, pollution, and the ecosystem. An ineffective waste disposable system leads to damage of biodiversity and natural ecosystem, greenhouse gases, global warming, and destruction of natural resources and fossil fuels. Most of the manufacturing, distribution and research operations of myriad industries are affected by environmental laws and regulations related to water discharges, air emissions, the handling and disposal of solid/ hazardous wastes and the remediation of contamination associated with the use and disposal of hazardous substances. Globally, the environment and waste management industry (http://www. strategyr. com/Environmental_And_Waste_Management_Industry_Market_Report. asp) is subject to various local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Solid Waste Disposal Act, Comprehensive Emergency Response, Compensation and Liability Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Drinking Water Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, and related state and local laws and regulations collectively called "Environmental Laws". Such environmental laws impose limitations on discharge of pollutants into the air/water, necessitate the installation of pollution control equipment, set up standards for the storage, treatment, transportation, and disposal of solid as well as hazardous wastes, and enforce other requirements to protect public health and the environment.

Developed countries dominate environmental waste management products market based on availability of advanced waste process and prevention technologies, instruments, and information systems. Demand for air pollution control technologies is more profound in China while in Eastern Europe demand for environmental products and services such as process control, end-of-pipe technology, site remediation and restoration services and technologies is growing rapidly. Among all waste management products and technologies, water equipment and chemicals is expected to exemplify robust demand due to large export market for wastewater management systems. Over the years, demand for solid waste management equipment is expected to be subtle due to decline in volume of solid waste as a result of implementation of waste minimization and pollution prevention programs.

Biotechnology in environmental management (http://www. strategyr. com/Environmental_And_Waste_Management_Industry_Market_Report. asp) had been key in protecting the environment in a number of ways including waste management, environment clean-up and detoxification. Enzymes, nutrients, microorganisms and microbial blends are some of the products of environmental biotechnology used for waste treatment.

The report titled "Environmental and Waste Management Industry: A Global Outlook" provides a collection of statistical anecdotes, market briefs, and concise summaries of research findings. The report offers a bird's eye view of the prevalent scenario in the industry, and provides perspectives on the impact of Biotechnology/chemicals in environmental management. The report also provides a sneak peek into the world of waste management, waste treatment technologies, and the environmental laws governing the global industry. Also included is a compilation of all recent mergers, acquisitions, and noteworthy strategic corporate developments. The abstracted discussion on the US market encompasses federal regulations for waste disposal, waste disposing methods, radioactive waste management, management of organic materials, and everything else in between. Other regional markets discussed include Canada, Europe, and Asia, among others. The report also includes an indexed, easy-to-refer, fact-finder directory listing the addresses, and contact details of 696 companies worldwide.

Microwize to Hold Free Stimulus Package Workshop for Medical Industry

Microwize Technology, Inc., a provider of comprehensive medical record solutions for healthcare providers, will hold a free Stimulus Package Workshop on Wednesday, March 25th at their headquarters in Paramus, NJ. Paramus, NJ (PRWEB) March 18, 2009

Technology company makes sense of $19 billion stimulus infusion and incentive reimbursement for healthcare industry. Microwize Technology, Inc., a provider of comprehensive medical record solutions for healthcare providers, will hold a free Stimulus Package Workshop on Wednesday, March 25th at their headquarters in Paramus, NJ. The workshop, "The Practice of the Future" will focus on the rollout of the new $19 billion stimulus package and incentive reimbursement meant to promote the integration of electronic medical records (http://www. microwize. com/emr. htm) (EMR's) signed into law last month by President Obama, The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, will provide for a $787 billion government infusion meant to stimulate the economy through, among other things, the creation of jobs, development of educational opportunities, the providing of tax relief measures, the establishment of energy independence, and the commitment to higher quality, affordable healthcare.

As a part of the overall stimulus package, and specific to the healthcare program, there will be $19 billion of stimulus money infused into the healthcare industry to encourage the implementation and efficient use of EMR's. It is the accepted belief by experts in the field that the use of electronic systems in lieu of traditional recordkeeping will ultimately better safeguard patients and significantly reduce healthcare costs.

Through the new stimulus package, those in the healthcare industry that implement electronic health records (http://www. microwize. com/emr. htm) and use them comprehensively at the point of patient care - as well as choosing those systems that feature interoperability and clinical reporting - can qualify for a significant incentive reimbursement. The incentive provides for up to $64,000 over six years and $2-8 million in funding for hospitals. But because over half of the incentive payout will be distributed in the first two years, healthcare providers have been advised to make a move to electronic medical records as soon as possible to maximize their reimbursement.

"We understand the significance of the current stimulus package and what this investment in healthcare can mean to the overall quality of care we provide to patients," says Robert Gabriel, President and CEO of Microwize Technology, Inc. "And we believe strongly that the integration of high quality electronic systems will facilitate a positive transformation of the entire healthcare industry."

Microwize Technology's March 25th workshop will help healthcare providers understand the nuances of the new stimulus package and explore the options for immediately integrating electronic medical records (http://www. microwize. com/emr. htm) into their existing operations.

"Our hope is that we, through this workshop, can better inform healthcare providers about the stimulus package and how it will affect their industry," says Gabriel. "We want to help them understand their options and what is available to them through this incentive reimbursement program."

Microwize (http://www. microwize. com/) will provide two seminar times on March 25th, 9 a. m.-12 p. m. and 5-8 p. m. Registrants are still being accepted and those interested in attending the workshop can register online.

Microwize Technology, Inc. provides state-of-the art technology and comprehensive solutions that significantly reduce costs, provide patients control over their own healthcare experience, and allow healthcare providers to deliver a superlative standard of care.

Manchester England (PRWEB) February 21, 2006

Eva Moffat, a disabled Narcoleptic lady, receives awards for her writing. Eva has problems staying awake because of her having had Narcolepsy for over 44 years. She was a founder member of the Narcolepsy Association.

She also has mobility problems after breaking her neck in a car crash in South Africa in 1993. But she sits at her computer and writes health related articles for which she has received several awards.

Eva a 66-year-old lady living in Manchester England has written several articles mostly health related. These articles are being published all over the web. Three publishers have awarded her Expert Author status. She has always had an interest in anything health related and was a nurse in the early 1970’s.

Since 2002 she has been writing Community News as a Community Correspondent (her official title) although Eva quips, “Unofficially I’m the local nosey parker” for The Advertiser a Free Weekly Newspaper being distributed throughout North and East Manchester. Because of her disability, she receives her information by phone and email, plus her own surfing of the Internet checking out local Community Portals.

Due to her often falling asleep while sat at her computer, she finds it takes her so much longer to write her articles. But Elizabeth Foster a Journalist for the Eastern Province Herald in South Africa when she wrote about Eva in the 1980’s said, “If Eva Moffat did not keep falling asleep, what more could she have done with her life?”

She used to attend bi-monthly seminars organised by Dr Syed Abidi of the British Ethnic Health Awareness Foundation BEHAF) http://www. behaf. org. uk (http://www. behaf. org. uk) (Dr Abidi was recently awarded Asian Jewel Award of Excellence 2006) but her worsening mobility problems have prevented her from attending these Seminars for the past year. Dr Abidi has kindly kept her up to date with what has happened at the seminars, so she is able to write something in her Column in the Advertiser telling her readers highlights of the Seminar eg who was the Guest Speaker and his or her input into the Seminar. She also makes sure to tell her readers the date of the next Seminar and what subjects will be the Topics and who will be presenting them.

For the past two years Eva has been voted ‘Journalist of The Year’ by BEHAF. Also she has been nominated for Media Personality of 2006 by BEHAF. This is because of her unstinting contribution on a voluntary basis to the successful attendance at the Seminars.

Eva is also a voluntary article Contributor to BEHAF. Her health related articles can be found under ‘Latest News’ on http://www. behaf. org. uk (http://www. behaf. org. uk)

Eva is well known locally as she used to attend Workshops, Seminars and exhibitions when she took her three-wheeled walker for a walk. Unfortunately, even with her walker she now finds walking is getting too painful and has had to curtail several of her activities. She has been approved for a wheelchair, but is still housebound while the powers that be get around to fixing a ramp outside her home.

Being involved in Voluntary work, she is on the committee of several organisations. At meetings when volunteers are wanted for a particular project, Eva’s hand is one of the first to go up. Quite often she puts up her hand before giving it any thought. One of her favourite sayings is, ‘If you want something doing, ask a busy person.’

She is Editor of a monthly Newsletter ‘It’s A Question of Health’ that aims to answer questions about Health. Subscription is free and to join please send an Email to Eva.

Eva’s motto is ‘Challenges are for overcoming.’ And she has to overcome many challenges on a daily basis. All she wants is to be able to live independently for as long as possible.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Hypnosis--A New Approach To An Old Problem

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Hypnosis--A New Approach To An Old Problem

OCD is a painful, lonely disorder that many can't seem to control no matter what they try. In a seminar being presented to The Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (APHP), OCD researcher Devin Hastings discusses how hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) can assist the OCD sufferer.

Hopkins, MN (PRWEB) October 16, 2005

According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, 3.3 million Americans are known to suffer from OCD.

Standard treatments such as anti-anxiety drugs and Exposure-Response Prevention offer some help but, do not address the driving force behind a person's OCD.

In Devin Hastings' OCD seminar, you will receive invaluable training on how to compassionately and effectively understand and assist the OCD individual.

Some questions covered are:

What is OCD? How is it related to nail biting? Obesity? Smoking? Can hypnosis really have an effect? How can NLP help? Is OCD related to Tourette's Syndrome?

The seminar is being held at the Kensington Palace Hotel, Devere Gardens, Kensington, LONDON Saturday, October 29th at 2:15 p. m.

Media Mergers & Acquisitions to Continue Strong in 2006 According to 12th Annual Investment Bank Report

Media Mergers & Acquisitions to Continue Strong in 2006 According to 12th Annual Investment Bank Report

AdMedia Partners Releases its 12th Annual Survey, Prospects for Media Mergers & Acquisitions

NEW YORK, NY (PRWEB) January 11, 2006

Optimism continues among media and financial executives about strong media industry M&A in 2006, according to findings from leading mergers and acquisitions firm, AdMedia Partners’ 12th annual survey, Prospects for Media Mergers & Acquisitions. The survey indicated EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) multiples are expected to remain at last year’s historically high levels and integration of digital content will be a critical component for media companies in 2006.

The Prospects for Media Mergers & Acquisitions report can be downloaded at: Media M&A Survey (http://www. admediapartners. com/amp06-surveys/Prospects%20for%20M&A%20Survey%202006.pdf).

AdMedia Partners Managing Director Mark Edmiston noted that the majority of survey respondents were bullish that M&A driven by both strategic (67%) and financial buyers (70%) will increase over 2005’s strong level. Only 5% of survey respondents project any slowdown.

Edmiston observed, “Demand for digital content was clear in both the survey data and open-ended comments, and we expect to see more acquisitions of cross-media properties by traditional media companies in 2006.”

Although 56% of respondents expect strategic and financial buyers to increase their valuations for solid media properties in 2006, Edmiston noted that a substantial minority believe the opposite. Moreover, he said, there are other indicators that EBITDA multiples in most areas are at a plateau.

With the exception of newspapers, where EBITDA multiples have slipped from an average of 10-13x down to 9-10x in the past year, and interactive media, where they have soared, topping out at 14x EBITDA, multiples of EBITDA that respondents currently expect to pay or be paid in most media sectors remain consistent with last year’s historically high levels.

“The media industry has seen an unprecedented level of activity from both private equity and strategic buyers, and there is nothing in the near term that would cause a slowdown in 2006,” Edmiston said. “Down the road, tightening of lending criteria and potential increases in capital gains tax rates could make M&A less attractive, but in 2006 conditions remain favorable.”

In fact, Edmiston said, more than four out of five survey respondents expect to complete an acquisition or divestiture in 2006, and 42% expect to be involved in an M&A transaction outside the United States.

A larger, long-term concern is that fewer than half of the respondents think there are currently a healthy number of quality media acquisition targets, although more have a favorable outlook about the available merchandise now (46%) than did so last year (36%), reflecting the higher prices realized in deals consummated over the past year. However, if consolidation continues as projected, Edmiston said, there could be a severe shortage of viable acquisition targets in 2007-2008.

Given the current M&A climate and concerns about the future, nearly two thirds of respondents believe both prospective buyers (64%) and sellers (65%) should “act now” on prospective transactions.

Edmiston noted that while those believing sellers should “act now” has gained ground over the past two years, the percentage who would advise buyers to “act now” has dropped to the lowest level since 2001 (when it was 47%). In general, those who would advise buyers or sellers to “wait” believe valuations are going to change in their favor over the course of 2006.

Respondents to AdMedia Partners’ 12th annual survey were made up of companies that operate in a variety of consumer and B-to-B media, including online and interactive. 79% are private companies and 21% are public companies. 40% have revenues of 100 million or greater and 21% have revenues of under 10 million.

Preparing For Lyme Disease Season: Get Set For Spring -- and Keep Your Family Safe

Preparing For Lyme Disease Season: Get Set For Spring -- and Keep Your Family Safe

April marks the official start of tick season, and ticks are the most common carriers of the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

Greenwich, CT (PRWEB) March 7, 2008

With spring just around the corner, most of us are looking forward to spending more time outdoors -- not to the threat caused by disease-spreading parasites. But April marks the official start of tick season, and ticks are the most common carriers of the bacteria that causes Lyme disease.

"Although Lyme disease is a year-round problem, ticks are most active in the spring and early summer," says Debbie Siciliano, co-president and co-founder of Time for Lyme, Inc. (timeforlyme. org), a research, education and advocacy network and affiliate of the Lyme Disease Association, which together have endowed the Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases Research Center at Columbia University Medical in New York City, the first of its kind dedicated to the study of chronic Lyme disease. "And unfortunately, these ticks are often found in private backyards and gardens -- just the places where many of us want to be come springtime."

Cases of Lyme disease have been reported in virtually every state, although the Northeastern, Great Lakes, and Pacific Northwest areas are particularly troublesome. "If you live or vacation in these places, you're more likely to meet up with an infected tick," Siciliano says. "You're also more vulnerable if you like to hike in wooded or grassy areas -- places where ticks thrive."

To get ready for Lyme season, Siciliano recommends controlling the ticks around your home, then taking steps to protect yourself and your family. Here are some steps to consider:

Use Pesticides
A pesticide designed to kill ticks, called an acaricide, can make a big dent in tick populations. In fact, a single, well-timed application can reduce tick populations by 68 to 100%, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The Environmental Protection Agency and individual states determine the legal use of pesticides, so check with your local authorities, and talk with local health officials about the best time to apply acaricide. You also can hire a professional to apply pesticides around your home to reduce the tick population.

Banish the Bugs
Beyond the chemicals, you can use landscaping techniques to create a tick-safe zone around your house. "Ticks thrive in humid, wooded areas, but they don't last long in sunny, dry environments," Siciliano says. To keep them away from your home, prune trees and shrubs, clear away leaf litter, brush and tall grass, and let your lawn dry between waterings. Get rid of mulch beds and keep firewood stacked in a dry place. And put down a strip of wood chips or gravel between lawns and wooded areas to prevent ticks from moving in.

Discourage Deer
Sure, they're cute, but deer can carry some nasty stowaways, Siciliano says. They typically carry the adult female ticks that can drop off and lay thousands of eggs on your property. So don't feed them on your property, and put up a fence or barrier to keep them off your yard. Get rid of the birdfeeders -- or at least be sure to clean up any spilled birdfeed before it attracts deer. You also can add deer-resistant plants to your garden (talk to the experts at your local nursery for suggestions).

Mind the Mice
Deer ticks also love to settle on mice and other rodents, so you might consider taking steps to control them there, too. Bait boxes, such as the Maxforce Tick Management System and Damminix Tick Tubes, treat wild rodents with acaricide and have been shown to reduce ticks around homes by more than 50 percent. The treatment is similar to products used to control fleas and ticks on pets; it doesn't harm the mouse, just the ticks, although you should use caution, as you would with any other chemicals, and store the product where the dogs and kids can't reach it.

Protect Your Pets
Cats and dogs that venture outside can pick up ticks and bring them home to you, says Siciliano. Schedule an appointment now to talk to your veterinarian about appropriate tick repellants (Frontline and Top Spot are two popular options), and get into the habit of checking Fido or Fluffy for ticks every time he comes inside. "The Lyme-carrying ticks can be as small as a poppy seed, so you've got to be especially careful when checking a furry dog or cat," Siciliano says. "Using appropriate veterinary tick repellants makes it much less likely that your pet will bring ticks home."

Stock Up
Before April rolls around, consider stocking your medicine cabinet with the tick repellant and insecticide products you'll use to protect yourself and your family, Siciliano says. You'll want an insect repellent containing 20 to 30 percent DEET, which you'll apply to exposed skin and clothing (check with your doctor about the appropriate use of DEET). CDC recommends products containing active ingredients which have been registered with US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use as insect repellents on skin or clothing. You'll also want to buy a product containing permethrin, an insecticide that you apply to clothing. "Remember that DEET is a repellant, so it won't kill the ticks," Siciliano says. "Permethrin kills ticks on your clothing, but it won't have any effect on bugs that don't land on your clothes," Siciliano says. "That's why it's best to keep both permethrin and DEET products on hand and use them together."

The First Look

The First Look

Children learn that they are special and unique as they observe their reflections in the mirror for the first time.

Vacaville, CA (Vocus) September 3, 2010

Author Naomi Connor’s first children’s book Big Brown Eyes, relates to children and the emotions and thoughts that they have when they survey themselves in the mirror.

Connor manages to succinctly and eloquently capture a child’s first observations of his or her appearance and even sneaks in a small lesson about oral hygiene.

The clever rhyme patterns and colorful illustrations make the book a delight for little readers, while parents will appreciate the values of self-respect and love that are conveyed through the story.

About the Author

Connor lives in Northern California with her husband and three children. She works in the healthcare industry, does a variety of volunteer projects and spends a great deal of her time writing.

Connor has plans to write several more children’s books and has interest in developing a new literary genre, which she calls “lessons learned fiction.” Her long-term goal is to one day write and publish a full-length novel.

In her spare time, Connor enjoys browsing through flea markets and antique stores for unusual and unique finds.
