What does the high incidence of diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease in the Black community have to do with who runs and gets elected to office? What does drinking at least eight glasses of water a day have to do with domestic violence, child abuse, and street crime in the Black community? Intrigued? Good, because during National Women’s Health and Fitness Week. the Black Women’s Health and Healing Conference & Festival 2006 will be making the connection between the choices we make about food, exercise and relationships, and our ability and willingness to take control of our lives and our community.

Presented by the Muhsana Center for Health and Healing, the co-organizers decided to put on this conference because “everyday they experience and see a disconnect between the health information presented to communities of color and how (if ever) the information is used. Despite extensive information available, African Americans are still dying and falling ill in disproportionate numbers.

In Oakland and Alameda County:

African Americans had a rate of 1,192.8 deaths per 100,000, twice the rate for Asians or Latinos (580.9 and 582.4, respectively) and 40% higher than the rate for the White population (851.8).  African Americans bear the greatest burden of chronic diseases for almost all chronic disease indicators examined except for breast cancer incidence and mortality, where the White population has the highest rates.  African Americans comprise the highest rate of hospitalizations for mental disorders, which include anxiety, depression and phobias  African Americans have the worst birth outcomes: they have the highest rates of infant mortality and low birth weight.  African Americans and residents of East Oakland, and parts of North and West Oakland, have the highest rates of all-cause mortality in Oakland.

Featured speakers for this dynamic and life changing event will include motivational speaker Dr. Jewel Diamond Taylor, author of Too Blessed to Be Stressed, Dr. Phil Valentine and Dr. Nalani ND and to lead the 2-day Young Women’s Forum; Niambi Jaha-Echols, author of Project Butterfly and one of Essence magazines 25 women to watch. 20 other local and national women will present over 29 topics relevant to African American women’s health, including Maria Dowd, creator of the popular African American Women on Tour and Ruth King, author of Healing Rage.

The weekend will feature a combination of informative workshops, music, physical exercise workout sessions, healthy food prep classes, diagnostic testing, on-site massage, chiropractic and acupuncture, local entertainment, art and a 2-day young women’s forum discussing health issues especially for young women 13-25 years of age.

Grand Rapids Native Patricia (Plese) Gussin to Sign, Discuss Heralded Debut Novel Shadow of Death in Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids Native Patricia (Plese) Gussin to Sign, Discuss Heralded Debut Novel Shadow of Death in Grand Rapids

Gussin will appear at Barnes & Noble in Grand Rapids on April 20

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) March 29, 2006

Grand Rapids native resident Patricia Gussin will autograph and discuss her heralded debut novel Shadow of Death on April 20th, 2006 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers beginning at 7 PM. A graduate of Aquinas College, Gussin also attended Marywood Academy.

In 1967, Gussin was a first-year medical student in Detroit. 1967 – the year Detroit erupted into the worst case of civil violence since the Civil War – was a time of tremendous unrest, social upheaval, and devastation. Now, after an illustrious career practicing medicine and directing medical research as a worldwide vice president for a leading healthcare company, Gussin revisits that harrowing time in Shadow of Death, a forthcoming thriller hailed as a stunning debut novel.

In Shadow of Death, (Oceanview Publishing, ISBN: 1-933515-00-7, $22.95) Gussin introduces Laura Nelson, a medical student, wife and mother struggling to strike a balance between her family and career. As the worst violence in the history of Detroit erupts around her, Laura’s life changes in an instant when she becomes both a victim of a violent crime, and a murderer. Laura is forced to make a split second decision that will alter the course of her life – forever.

Desperate to put that fateful, frightening night behind her, Laura soon learns that keeping those dreadful secrets from those closest to her proves to be one of the toughest challenges she will ever face. With a persistent and perceptive detective hot on her trail and a host of eerie incidents suggesting that maybe her secret isn’t really a secret, Laura must face her fears and her toughest critic – herself. Drawn into an unseemly web of peril, deceit, and treachery, Laura risks both her freedom and her sanity. Will her deadly secret come to light, or must she live forever in the shadow of death?

Gripping and masterfully-paced, Shadow of Death is an intricately-woven tale filled with secrets, lies, and a spine-chilling glimpse of what lurks in the shadows. Interwoven with complex issues such as race relations, religion, and morals, ethics and consequences, Shadow of Death is a haunting, thought-provoking stunner.

Resplendent with shocking coincidences, pulse-quickening turns and twists, and a host of real, dynamic characters, Shadow of Death will leave you torn between racing to the end, and attempting to savor each delicious moment of this gripping story.

Board Certified in Family Medicine, Patricia Gussin, known to colleagues as Dr. Patricia Stewart, has practiced medicine and has directed medical research in her role as worldwide vice president for a leading healthcare company. Shadow of Death is her first novel.

U. S. Soybean Farmers Help Support World Food Supply

U. S. Soybean Farmers Help Support World Food Supply

United Soybean Board Highlights Soy Biotechnology as Way to Address Global Food Demand

Chesterfield, MO (PRWEB) July 28, 2010

As the global population continues to increase, the United Soybean Board (http://www. unitedsoybean. com/programs/consumer_outreach/food_supply. aspx) highlights soy biotechnology on its new Web pages. The information demonstrates how biotechnology utilized by U. S. soybean farmers remains as a safe and efficient way to improve crop yields and productivity in the United States and across the globe, and contribute positively to the world food supply.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, global food demand is increasing, with nearly 1 billion people all around the world waking up hungry and going to bed the same way. The U. N. predicts that, 50 years from now, our growing population could require us to produce twice as much food as we do today to provide for even basic food needs.

Many U. S. farmers, however, use biotechnology advances to address growing human population and world hunger by producing food that is both healthy and more abundant. By emphasizing sustainable production, farmers continue to meet the urgent needs of today and the growing demands of tomorrow.

For additional information about how agriculture benefits the world, and soybeans’ role in the global food supply, visit the United Soybean Board’s expanded consumer Web pages here (http://www. unitedsoybean. com/programs/consumer_outreach. aspx). Additional conversation about soybeans and sustainability can be found on the blog www. usbthinkingahead. com.

About the United Soybean Board
The United Soybean Board (USB) represents a group of volunteer farmer-leaders administering a U. S. soy research and promotion program known most commonly as the “Soybean Checkoff.” Through the Soybean Checkoff, U. S. soybean farmers invest a portion of their sales in research and promotion to provide food, feed, fuel and fiber to the world. By building demand for such things as soy biodiesel, soybean meal, soybean oil, soy exports and more, USB and the Soybean Checkoff help provide profit opportunities for all U. S. soybean farmers.

Smokers Time to Butt Out

Smokers Time to Butt Out

There is no question more Canadians are anxious to quit smoking as a result of anti-smoking regulations and by-lawÂ’s coming into effect throughout Canada. Many smokers who once thought about quitting are getting serious this time. With the price of cigarettes, the difficulty finding a place to smoke, and with non-smokers demanding their right to cleaner air, smokers need help like never before to quit or reduce their nicotine dependency.

(PRWEB) March 20, 2005

They are out on the streets everywhere these days, outcasts huddled close to the front doors of office buildings. You know who I'm talking about........ Smokers.

Smokers Edge is a safe and proven product to help alleviate the craving that comes with giving up cigarettes. Smokers Edge is a cigarette-like alternative. But you don't light it. It contains no nicotine or tar. When used, Smokers Edge imitates the feeling of inhalation and that addictive hand-to-mouth motion that smokers crave. But Smokers Edge isn't harmful to the ex-smoker or to those nearby. And Smokers Edge contains only natural herbs and essential oils. It also comes in two flavors: citrus and mint that leave your breath totally refreshed. Smokers Edge saves the consumer money - one package can last as long as an entire carton of cigare

People who have used Smokers Edge rave about it because:

They can use it in restaurants, government buildings, offices, hospitals, theatres, shopping malls or at home. It's conveniently packaged for times when you can't reach for a cigarette travelling whether by air, bus, truck, cab or just in your car. New Published Report Finds 0% of Adolescents Raised by Lesbians Have Been Physically or Sexually Abused by Parents

New Published Report Finds 0% of Adolescents Raised by Lesbians Have Been Physically or Sexually Abused by Parents

Paper published today in the Archives of Sexual Behavior reveals that abuse is a nonexistent problem

(Vocus) November 9, 2010

The Williams Institute, a research center on sexual orientation law and public policy at UCLA School of Law, announces new findings from the U. S. National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study (NLLFS), the longest-running study ever conducted on American lesbian families (now in its 24th year). In an article published today in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, the 17-year-old daughters and sons of lesbian mothers were asked about sexual abuse, sexual orientation, and sexual behavior.

The paper finds that none of the 78 NLLFS adolescents report having ever been physically or sexually abused by a parent or other caregiver. This contrasts with 26% of American adolescents who report parent or caregiver physical abuse and 8.3% who report sexual abuse.

According to the authors, "the absence of child abuse in lesbian mother families is particularly noteworthy, because victimization of children is pervasive and its consequences can be devastating. To the extent that our findings are replicated by other researchers, these reports from adolescents with lesbian mothers have implications for healthcare professionals, policymakers, social service agencies, and child protection experts who seek family models in which violence does not occur."

On sexual orientation, 2.8% of the NLLFS adolescents identified as predominantly to exclusively homosexual.

The study was conducted by Nanette Gartrell, MD, Henny Bos, PhD (University of Amsterdam), and Naomi Goldberg, MPP (Williams Institute). Principal investigator Nanette Gartrell, MD, is a 2010 Williams Distinguished Scholar, an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at UCSF, and affiliated with the University of Amsterdam.

For more information about this study, please see Archives of Sexual Behavior:
DOI 10.1007/s10508-010-9692-2

Also, visit the NLLFS website at http://www. nllfs. org

Dr. Gartrell can be reached by email at the address on this page, or by telephone at 1-415-346-2336.

The Williams Institute advances sexual orientation law and public policy through rigorous, independent research and scholarship, and disseminates it to judges, legislators, policymakers, media and the public. A national think tank at UCLA Law, the Williams Institute produces high quality research with real-world relevance. Chicago Based Shared Office Space Provider Expands Employee 401(k) Program

Chicago Based Shared Office Space Provider Expands Employee 401(k) Program

The key to growing a great business is to surround yourself with people greater than you at what they do. Amata Office Centers understands this and that is why they have enriched the benefits they provide their employees during these difficult economic times. All it takes is one visit to an Amata Office Suite to understand the employees make the business successful.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) August 18, 2009

As companies look for ways to reduce their costs and take control of their expenses, more are turning to the $12 billion shared office space industry. In Chicago, Amata Office Centers is giving companies more reasons than just lower costs to scrap their traditional office space and move to an Executive Office Suite (http://www. amatacorp. com/amata-difference. asp). The reasons revolve around access to better, more productive support personnel and lower turnover of key staff members.

"Our employees work directly for our clients. They are their office manager, personal assistant and receptionist. With the resources of Amata Office Centers, we can provide better trained personnel than our clients can hire on their own. A big part of this is maintaining low turnover during good and bad economic times," states Ron Bockstahler CEO of Amata Office Centers.

While most companies are looking at ways to reduce the cost of benefits they provide their employees to cope with the difficult economy, Amata is doing just the opposite. Working in partnership with their 401(k) administrator, Pension Performance, Amata has expanded the eligibility criteria for their 401(k) and profit-sharing programs. Now all full-time and part-time employees can participate in both programs, the time of employment requirement has been reduced from one year to 90 days, the open enrollment period has been changed to quarterly versus annually and Amata added a provision that allows employees the option to take out loans against their plan assets. These changes to the programs are in direct response to requests and comments from the Amata employees.

Executive Office Suites provide office space (http://www. amatacorp. com/executive-suites/) and virtual office space (http://www. amatacorp. com/virtual-office/) to companies of all sizes and in all industries. With five centers in Chicago and Naperville, IL, Amata has over 500 clients using their services. Mr. Chalupa, President of Amata Office Centers adds, "What most companies don't account for is the institutional knowledge that is lost whenever key staff members quit. Many of our clients have been with us for several years and we feel a responsibility to make sure they do not lose institutional knowledge because our employees leave for a better compensation package." For this reason Amata provides health and dental insurance; and 401(k) and profit sharing programs that can rival fortune 500 companies, with the family style work atmosphere you get from a small company. To experience the benefits Amata Office Centers can provide your company visit www. amataoffices. com].

Upstart WorkGiant. com Starts A Labor Day Revolt

Upstart WorkGiant. com Starts A Labor Day Revolt

WorkGiant challenges today's top employment sites by introducing a Performance Based Recruiting™ business model, and a Pay Per Hire fee structure.

Fort Myers, Florida (PRWEB) September 7, 2005

Upstart WorkGiant. com, a recently launched employment site, is starting a Labor Day revolt.

With WorkGiant™ employers and recruiters are revolting from paying upfront fees with no guarantees on hires. What's the reason for the mass exodus of employers and recruiters switching from the big three employment sites (Monster, Careerbuilder, and HotJobs) to WorkGiant™? The answer is three simple words, Performance Based Recruiting™.

PERFORMANCE BASED RECRUITING™

WorkGiant™ calls their business model Performance Based Recruiting™. Performance Based Recruiting™ is no risk recruiting. WorkGiant™ literally takes all the risk out of recruiting and can save companies up to 90% on their current recruiting costs. Employers and Recruiters can post all of their jobs for free and search over one million resumes for free. WorkGiant also puts no time constraints on open positions so there are no rushed hires. WorkGiant clients only pay upon hiring the candidate of choice. If your company does not make a hire, you pay absolutely nothing. By paying only when you hire, no wasted dollars are left on the table from unfilled positions.

With no barrier to entry WorkGiant™ already has thousands of new employers and could soon have the largest database of jobs online exposing the hidden job market. With the largest database of jobs and cash incentives for jobseeker referrals WorkGiant™ will surely attract millions and millions of jobseekers resulting in the largest resume database in the world.

By introducing their Performance Based Recruiting™ business model, and a Pay Per Hire fee structure WorkGiant is a serious threat to today’s top employment sites.

Currently the big three employment sites dominate the entire online employment market and have put a stranglehold on US companies; the status quo is to charge companies upfront fees with no guarantees on hires. Because there have been no new challengers in the job site arena, the top 3 sites have gone largely unchecked.

"The reason WorkGiant is getting such a positive response from our clients is because it is in their best interest for us to succeed! By joining WorkGiant our clients begin to break the unhealthy monopoly that the major career sites have on US companies; they also send a message loud and clear they have had enough of outrageous fees. Performance Based Recruiting™ and the pay per hire fee structure will shake the very foundation of the recruiting industry as we know it!" Said Kevin Romney, Co-Founder of WorkGiant. com

EMPLOYERS WIN:

Employers have no downside! They can post an unlimited number of jobs for free, and search the entire resume database for free. Clients only pay after they hire the qualified candidate of their choice. If a client company does not hire a candidate from the site, they do not pay. WorkGiant. com is the only employment website model that guarantees client success, at a reasonable cost. Higher fill rates, better quality hires, increased retention levels, no wasted money. In short, WorkGiant. com promises to drastically reduce the amount of time, money and effort it takes to hire quality employees.

JOB SEEKERS WIN:

The driving force behind WorkGiant. com is their jobseekers. WorkGiant Job Seekers are paid referral fees on people they refer into the site who are then hired by participating companies. Job Seekers will be able to refer as many of their friends, family, acquaintances, co-workers etc. to WorkGiant as they wish.

Also when you go to WorkGiant make sure to check out their Recycled Candidate Program™, WorkGiant is the only employment site online that will actually put money back in the employers pocket.

It is clear to see that WorkGiant is on a crusade to change the way business is done in regards to online recruiting.

Nestle France Selects Retail Solutions to Create Value with Operational Retailer Data

Nestle France Selects Retail Solutions to Create Value with Operational Retailer Data

Nestle France to Work with Point-of-Sale Data from Multiple Retailers to Help with Out-of-Stocks, Inventory, Promotions and Product Launches

Sunnyvale, CA and Noisiel, France (PRWEB) October 15, 2009

Retail Solutions Inc., the leading solution provider helping consumer goods companies create value from operational retailer data, announced today that it has been retained by Nestle France, a French subsidiary of Nestle SA, the world's leading nutrition, health and wellness company, to manage and leverage data from multiple French retailers.

"We believe that better leveraging retailer data to drive our business can have a deep positive impact in driving operational effectiveness for Nestle France," said Erik Angot, Nestle France Supply Chain Director. "We selected Retail Solutions to support us because they possess the right combination of experience and understanding: their approach to value creation with retailer data is very action-oriented and can help drive change across our organization and a more effective collaboration with our retailer Customers."

Nestle France has already started to collect data from several key French retailers and will leverage it across a wide area of processes in Supply chain and Commerce. In particular, Nestle France intends to explore areas such as:
Reacting faster to shelf out-of-stocks situations and understanding their root cause to prevent their recurrence

Managing inventories more effectively without impacting shelf availability - or even while improving it

Supporting retailers in better executing promotions and new product introductions

"Each of these areas has the potential to generate sizable benefits for both Nestle and our Customers," added Angot. "Our joint goal has always been to maximize product availability, to reduce inventory and to grow sales. Using Retail Solutions will enable us to take a more proactive role in achieving these objectives. We intend to become a better partner for our Customers while aligning this goal with internal improvement opportunities."

Retail Solutions is a clear leader in helping CPG companies build value-adding, resilient processes leveraging the wealth of information provided by granular, near-real time point-of-sale and inventory data. Used by more than 300 customers getting value from data from 30 retailers in six countries, Retail Solutions Demand Signal Management platform is the most widely used solution in the industry.

"Retail Solutions was the best choice for us," said Hubert de Champs, Nestle France, in charge of Customer Relationships within Nestle's Supply Chain. "Their Software-as-a-Service, hosted model takes away all the difficulties we would have encountered had we tried to manage this data ourselves. We can now focus on creating value with the data - not struggle with the data itself."

"We are delighted to support a company as respected as Nestle France," said Cedric Guyot, Retail Solutions General Manager for Europe. "The opportunity to build competitive advantage is now: more and more French retailers are starting to share data with their suppliers and Retail Solutions has proven again and again the mutual benefits of a more open, fact-based collaboration between retailers and manufacturers."

About Retail Solutions Inc.
Retail Solutions applies science to retailer data. Retail Solutions develops and delivers a comprehensive suite of software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions that turn retailer data, such as point-of-sale (POS), supply chain, merchandiser feedback and EPC data into actionable visibility into the store and onto the shelf.

Leading companies such as 3M, Abbott, Bausch & Lomb, Bayer, Colgate-Palmolive, Crayola, Clorox, Heineken, HP, Kao Brands, Kraft, Nestle, Novartis, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt-Benckiser, Schering-Plough Corp. and Unilever trust Retail Solutions to grow their retail sales, maximize in-store operation productivity, plan and execute more effective promotions, reduce their costs and join efforts with retail partners to improve shelf availability and consumer satisfaction. Warning: The Wrong Civilian Work Environment can be Hazardous to the Health of Combat Exposed Veterans According to New PERCEVD Program

Warning: The Wrong Civilian Work Environment can be Hazardous to the Health of Combat Exposed Veterans According to New PERCEVD Program

Former Walter Reed psychiatrist Dr. Cynthia J. Washington explains, "veterans with combat related PTSD or similar challenges are significantly restricted in that certain reasonably predictable work environments will exacerbate their condition, albeit with substantial variation." Maryland headquartered DESTIN Enterprises, L. L.C. and Chicago-based Kaleidoscope Group, L. L.C., in association with Dr. Washington, have developed a comprehensive training and education program known as PERCEVD, "Preparing Employers to Reintegrate Combat Exposed Veterans with Disabilities". Kaleidoscope's nationally renowned CEO, Doug Harris, projects that "PERCEVD is essential for managing interplay between reasonable accommodations and conduct rules for combat exposed veterans, whether an employer's related goal is diversity and inclusion, ADA or USERRA compliance."

Columbia, Md (PRWEB) April 10, 2008

Maryland headquartered DESTIN Enterprises, L. L.C. and Chicago-based Kaleidoscope Group, L. L.C., in association with former Walter Reed psychiatrist Dr. Cynthia J. Washington, have developed a comprehensive training and education program known as PERCEVD, "Preparing Employers to Reintegrate Combat Exposed Veterans with Disabilities".

According to Ed Crenshaw, DESTIN's president and CEO, "PERCEVD embodies a new discipline from the combined expertise of mental health care providers, military professionals, war veterans, employment management and diversity consultants." Kaleidoscope's nationally renowned CEO, Doug Harris, projects that "PERCEVD is essential for managing interplay between reasonable accommodations and conduct rules for combat exposed veterans, whether an employer's related goal is diversity and inclusion, ADA or USERRA compliance."

Dr. Cynthia Washington explains that "war prompts a variety of conditions and disorders which may be disabling or cause symptoms that impede a veteran's ability to work." She adds, "PERCEVD emphasizes the capabilities of combat veterans and helps ensure those considerable strengths are not overlooked through ignorance or intolerance." DESTIN's Community Affairs Director, Denise Logal, interjects that "the disciplined and dedicated soldiers who personally sacrificed for the greater good of America, need every advantage of PERCEVD upon returning to civilian employment."

The PERCEVD curriculum addresses such topics as military vs. civilian culture; proper etiquette among people with disabilities; understanding common combat-related illnesses and conditions; recognizing and addressing various behavioral issues in the workplaces; understanding USERRA and ADA law; providing workplace accommodations; and utilizing diversity practices to empower workforces. DESTIN's Ed Crenshaw notes "our program's objective is inclusive and sensitive work environments which logic suggests are themselves a reasonable accommodation of combat exposed veterans." Reportedly up to half of the 1.6 million* American soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), an anxiety condition caused by exposure to terror or ordeal. Dr. Cynthia Washington confirms that PTSD and related mental illnesses "cause symptoms including insomnia, nightmares, flashbacks, guilt, lack of self-esteem, depression, generalized anxiety, uncontrolled anger, impairment of social and/or occupational functioning, substance abuse, thoughts of suicide, memory and concentration deficits, and/or other cognitive difficulties."

Referencing Dr. Washington's input on "trigger issues", DESTIN's Denise Logal contends that "employers unequipped to address the sometimes latent impact of war on prospective and current employees can inadvertently launch a downward behavioral spiral among them from which there may be no meaningful recovery." Logal recounts Dr. Washington's description of soldiers figuratively paralyzed by loud workplace noises reminding them of mortar attacks; raw meat summoning images of human carnage; trash cans and other imagined links to improvised explosive devices. "Whether these kinds of symptoms accompany an obvious physical impairment or clearly disabling mental impairment, empirical data indicates they substantially limit the major life activity of working" says Logal.

"The term substantially limits (under the ADA) means significantly restricted in the ability to perform either a class of jobs or a broad range of jobs in various classes as compared to the average person having comparable training, skills and abilities." Dr. Washington expounds, "veterans with combat related PTSD or similar challenges are significantly restricted in that certain reasonably predictable work environments will exacerbate their condition, albeit with substantial variation." Kaleidoscope's Doug Harris adds that "it takes competent employment management and diversity experts to translate relevant medical data and military concepts into practical strategies for employers attempting to create reasonably accommodating work environments for combat exposed veterans."

As DESTIN's Community Affairs Director, Denise Logal is mobilizing veteran and disability rights advocates to document the restriction on their constituents' ability to work, attendant to combat related PTSD. "Employers must act expeditiously to implement PERCEVD as there may not be retroactive relief for combat exposed veterans, now part of civilian workforces" says Logal. Kaleidoscope's Doug Harris reports "we are poised to overcome any corresponding hardship for employers through customized training strategies with graduated levels of effectiveness."

DESTIN Enterprises, L. L.C. is a multi-media employment search and management operation, featuring assistive technologies for marketing job candidates with disabilities. Its president and CEO, Ed Crenshaw, pioneered the basic concept which is now PERCEVD. www. DESTIN-E. net

Dr. Cynthia J. Washington is a board-certified psychiatrist and serves as a Major in the Army Medical Corps. National Hip Recall Registry Launched

National Hip Recall Registry Launched

Depuy ASR Implant patients are urged to Register with the National Hip Recall Registry. With close to 100,000 Depuy hip replacement patients at risk and now subject to a recall of their Depuy ASR hip replacements, it was imperative that a voluntary and independent National Hip Recall Database be created of hip replacement patients, which would allow for communications and information concerning health-related issues and news detailing all hip warnings and recalls that may impact these hip implant patients.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 4, 2010

The National Hip Recall Registry is urging all Depuy ASR Hip replacment patients to register online. The over one million individuals who received a hip implant in the last five years are being urged to register with the National Hip Recall Registry. The Hip Recall Registry launch expedited as the National outcry grows concerning the lack of a central database to reach the 93,000 patients who received the Depuy ASR Hip implant and are at risk.

As there is no centralized database of Hip Implant patients, there is no way of providing them with information on warnings and recalls concerning their implant. A central registry with better communications is especially important, as while Depuy is indicating that only 12% of patients who have the Depuy ASR Implant will need replacement surgery, some health experts are estimating that 100% of the implants will fail in the next 15 years.

In addition to the current Depuy hip failures, in 2008, Hip implant manufacturer Stryker Corp. v recalled the Trident PSL and Hemispherical Acetabular Cups that were constructed at its plant in Cork, Ireland. The same year, Zimmer Inc., another manufacturer suspended sale and marketing of its Durom Cup. All three companies—Stryker, Zimmer and DePuy—now face lawsuits.

In contrast to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, who are initiating a privately funded, pilot program, called the American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR), in 15 hospitals to track recipients' basic information and data to serve Hip Manufactures and Doctors, the National Hip Recall Registry was developed to serve the patients without bias of the surgeons or Hip manufactures.

Once patients enter their anonymous information concerning their hip implant, such as manufacture, model and outcome into the form available on http://www. hiprecallresgistry. com they will automatically be kept abreast of important issues that may arise concerning their hip implant and what options might be available to them.

The Objectives of the National Hip Recall Registry are:
Create a Database by Patient and Hip Manufacture. Provide automated means to notify Patients of warnings or recalls per the FDA and or Manufacture. Gather anonymous statistics of adverse effects resulting from a specific hip replacement device. Provide automated means to update hip patients on issues pertaining to a specific hip implant device.

Register Your Hip Replacement Now

In addition to registering patients who may be involved with the recent Depuy Hip Recall, the Hip Recall Registry is also serving as an information clearing house for all Hip replacement and implant products such as those manufactured by Stryker and Zimmer.

With over close to one million hip implants performed over the last five years the Hip Recall Registry hopes to be able to reach 80% of them in the next 12 months.

The National Hip Recall Registry can be found at http://www. HipRecallRegistry. com and was created to better communicate critical information regarding recall and warning both mandatory and voluntary. The Hip Recall Registry is not associated with any Hip Manufacture or Government Agency.

Stumbling Naked in the Dark:

Overcoming Mistakes Men Make With Women

MIAMI BEACH, November 11, 2003 -- STUMBLING NAKED IN THE DARK: OVERCOMING MISTAKES MEN MAKE WITH WOMEN (Trafford Publishing, 09/30/03, 1412012155, $15.95) is the revolutionary new book on male-female relationships by author Bradley Fenton. The author asserts that a majority of men repeatedly make common mistakes while interacting with women and thus unknowingly come off as unattractive. Fenton identifies these mistakes and suggests some rather unorthodox ways to overcome them. With integrity, maturity and humor, STUMBLING NAKED IN THE DARK explains once and for all why some men just don’t get “it” and offers a new mindset for leading relationships in the right direction. STUMBLING NAKED IN THE DARK is available at www. bradleyfenton. com, www. amazon. com, www. trafford. com, www. chapters. indigo. ca.

While most dating and relationship books have focused on understanding the differences between men and women, STUMBLING NAKED IN THE DARK focuses on the similarities between the sexes by exploring universal laws of human behavior. Relationship problems are due to the pressure created by the “aggressively flawed” role that people, and primarily men, learn to play in our culture. This leads to men exerting negative pressure and control that causes women to subconsciously withdraw and find men unattractive.

STUMBLING NAKED IN THE DARK teaches men how to alleviate the stress and pressure associated with dating so they become more relaxed and attractive to women and explores how men can focus on what makes women feel understood and comfortable, leading to their decisions of intimacy and commitment. For example, Fenton offers insights on how:

• Interactions with women in todayÂ’s social settings are burdened with pressure and distrust, leading to failure that creates a vicious cycle of anxiety and hopelessness.

• Most men unknowingly approach relationships as a game and feel the pressure of losing if they donÂ’t get what they want. Men mistakenly believe they have done something wrong if a woman chooses not to go out with them, creating an adversarial situation destined to fail.

• Success with women is not an innate skill that only a few men possess. All men can have a relationship – itÂ’s a matter of breaking down mental blocks to attain it.

• Women frequently make decisions about men based on their own anxieties and insecurities. In many cases, their availability to date has nothing to do with a specific man at all.

• Letting go of a womanÂ’s decision-making – and being healthfully indifferent to the outcome of an interaction while still genuinely caring for her well-being – is the key to attracting women.

• Making “No” an okay answer from women lessens pressure, adds more fun and actually leads to more “Yes” answers.

By teaching men how to become more comfortable with themselves and erase preconceived notions about women, STUMBLING NAKED IN THE DARK offers a powerful framework for men who want to disengage from the typical “dating game” and be more confident, fair and intuitive in their relationships with women.

Medical Monitoring USA Medical Alarms Announces New Low Price for Reliable Assisted Living Alternative

Medical Monitoring USA Medical Alarms Announces New Low Price for Reliable Assisted Living Alternative

Most medical alarm companies are over priced and pressure you into contracts or high equipment costs. Medical Monitoring USA has done away with high costs and contracts and is now making their product and service more affordable to seniors and people with fixed incomes. This is a wonderful opportunity for protecting seniors and persons with disabilities, and is now affordable to everyone.

Tenafly, NJ (PRWEB) October 13, 2008

Medical Monitoring USA announced that due to a collapsing economy, and the high demand/need for medical alarms, it is lowering its price from $29.95 to $26.95 monthly and is getting rid of any yearly contracts.

The strain on the economy is hurting everyone's pocket books but it should not be hurting their safety. Rising costs of rent, taxes, health care are making it impossible for seniors to support themselves. The cost of a live in nurse, or an assisted living facility is just way too expensive for an elderly person, especially if they are out of work. Their medical alarm unit is certainly an inexpensive alternative, that will allow an elderly person to live alone, safely.

The Medical Monitoring USA medical alarm is a very simple concept. Its a two way radio that connects a person with their call center. The user wears a simple medical alert button around their neck or wrist and in the event of any emergency, fall, fire, intruder, medical emergency they only need to press that button to be connected to the call center. The call center will immediately dispatch help, even if the person is unable to communicate with the operator.

Independent seniors are finding the low new price, and contract free service of the medical alarm very reassuring, especially in times when money is tight. They feel safe knowing they are protected 24 hours a day, in the comfort of their own home.

For more information on affordable medical alarms please visit the company's websites at http://www. mmusaalert. com (http://www. mmusaalert. com) or http://www. medicalmonitoringusa. com (http://www. medicalmonitoringusa. com)

Cleveland Clinic Launches Healthcare Executive Education Programs

Cleveland Clinic Launches Healthcare Executive Education Programs

Healthcare executive training based on Cleveland Clinic's successful business model

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) January 19, 2011

Cleveland Clinic has launched two healthcare executive education programs that focus on the challenges of leadership, management and innovation in today's highly competitive healthcare landscape.

"Healthcare executives who want to lead positive change in their organizations, particularly as the economy emerges from the recession, will benefit from these programs," says program director Caryl Hess, PhD, MBA.

The healthcare executive leadership courses are open to healthcare executives including physicians, nurses and administrators who currently function or aspire to function as a senior executive for a healthcare organization or in a related industry.

"One of the unique aspects of our healthcare executive education programs is peer learning. Attendees will learn directly from those involved in the daily business of healthcare excellence," says James K. Stoller, MD, MS, a pulmonologist and critical care medicine physician and Chair of Cleveland Clinic's Education Institute.

The first program, called the Executive Visitors' Program, allows attendees to learn how Cleveland Clinic achieves its strategic goals and executes its mission through system integration. Over two intensive days, attendees engage in a series of conversations with Cleveland Clinic executive leaders and gain insight into system integration based on Cleveland Clinic's successful business model. Upcoming sessions for 2011 will be held Mar. 3-4, June 2-3 and Sept. 15-16.

The second program, named the Samson Global Leadership Academy for Healthcare Executives, is a two-week immersion program that will prepare English-speaking healthcare executives to navigate the challenges of leading, managing and growing large organizations, domestically and globally. The program involves didactic learning, leadership roundtable opportunities, a shadowing or immersion experience, and a mentoring opportunity that continues after the program is over. The first session will be held Oct. 23 to Nov. 4, 2011.

Space currently is available in all sessions. Program sessions are small by design, so early registration is encouraged.
