Cara Robinson, RN, BSN, CCM, Qualis Health’s Vice President of Medicaid Services, and Eric Wall, MD, MPH, Senior Medical Director, have been selected as 2010 honorees at the Dorland Health People Awards. Ms. Robinson was the winner in the “Case/Care Manager-Leadership” category and Dr. Wall received Honorable Mention in the “Medical Director-Provider” category.

The Dorland Health People Awards recognize healthcare professionals who share their knowledge and skills to address challenges and meet the needs of their team, their patients and patients’ families. The purpose of the awards is to recognize “the dedication, the energy, the passion and the tireless pursuit of high-level patient care and first-class healthcare functioning” among America’s healthcare professionals. The Dorland Health People Awards honor healthcare professionals who are making a difference in assisting with the transitions of patients through the complicated healthcare landscape.

“We congratulate both Cara and Eric on this exceptional achievement and thank them for the tremendous contribution they make to Qualis Health, to our staff and clients and to the millions of patients who are served through their leadership,” said Jonathan Sugarman, MD, MPH, President and CEO of Qualis Health.

Ms. Robinson’s management of the multidisciplinary teams that provide care management services to several Medicaid agencies was a key component of her selection for this award. Her strong leadership has instilled passion into her teams through professional development, improved quality management and implementation of programs that improved access to care for Medicaid clients across several states.

Eric Wall, MD, MPH, leads a team of medical directors and a network of physician consultants who provide clinical peer review consultation for the organization’s contracts with government and private sector benefit programs. In addition to providing superior leadership for Qualis Health’s medical management products and services, Dr. Wall regularly contributes to local and national initiatives that seek to integrate evidence-based medicine and health policy.

Ms. Robinson was recognized at an awards luncheon on October 4, 2010, at the National Press Club in Washington, D. C. As a winner, she was profiled on dorlandhealth. com and in the October/November 2010 issue of Case In Point Magazine, a national publication promoting care coordination across the continuum of care.

Living Life as You Always Dreamed

Living Life as You Always Dreamed

Book explaining ways to enhance relationships, improve leadership skills and increase positive outcomes

(PRWEB) May 15, 2002

In reading this book, youÂ’ll be able to identify, minimize and even eliminate your distractions resulting in a healthier relationship with yourself and with others. The goal is to remove those distractions and to allow you to have a more joyful, peaceful and loving focus on your path in life.

It all begins with you. In this book you will learn how to live a more fulfilling lifestyle with the ability to recognize and minimize your distractions. The ability to recognize your distractions, to evolve through self-awareness and the process of letting go, will enable you to approach life and relationships in a more balanced and loving way.

Distractions are defined as insecurities, fears, or self-induced limitations, negativity, powerless words and actions, judging oneself and others, time wasters and obstacles perceived as problems. Distractions come from within our self-perceptions and are evidenced in the way we feel about ourselves. Whatever you focus on long enough, becomes your reality. Your perceptions and misconceptions about things, people and experiences, can cause reactions and projections onto others. Those very perceptions and misconceptions, if allowed, can become "distractions".

Distractions also come from others and through our experiences. Distractions hinder or hold us back from having a healthy whole relationship with ourselves. They also can keep us from being able to have whole and healthy relationships with others. We are what we believe, what we think about and stay focused on. To have healthy whole relationships, it is necessary to 'let go' of energy draining perceptions, and live life from a healthier personal belief system. Whole relationships start with thinking the right thoughts and nurturing oneself in a healthy manner.

As you read this book you will learn how to minimize the impact of these distractions as you develop yourself as a self-directed leader. There are 4 components of a self-directed leader, one being having a healthy self-belief system. Having a healthy "belief system", is the first step in the development of a self-directed leader. Having a healthy set of personal beliefs (a belief system) enables us to constantly adjust our course, so that our life has meaning and we feel the satisfaction of having contributed something to the world instead of having taken something away from it.

The other components of a self-directed leader are positive focus, positive thinking and enhancement of skills. As a self-directed leader, you are more effective in the process of evaluating and interpreting the merits of your own and otherÂ’s perceptions and thoughts. Through this process of learning, you are better able to respond in love rather than react in fear.

Pollen Plagues The Masters

Pollen Plagues The Masters

It’s been 72 years since that first ball was hit off the tee that early spring day in April, 1934, and allergy and sinus sufferers who have attended this spring event feel the pain.

Newtown, CT (PRWEB) April 6, 2006

Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts started one of the greatest golfing events in history way back in 1934 in Augusta, Georgia: The Masters. It’s been 72 years since that first ball was hit off the tee that early spring day in April. And allergy and sinus sufferers who have attended this spring event feel the pain.

“This is prime time for pollen here," said Greg Cassidy, a local area resident. "We have tons of azaleas, dogwoods, and cherry trees here in full bloom. Temperatures were in the low 80’s this last week and the grasses are also popping up.” Greg’s wife has bad sinuses and happens to be a pharmacist for Walgreens. “She has become increasingly alarmed at the use of antibiotics to treat sinus infections and wonders if they do not in many cases make the infection stronger. So a treatment that might allow the sinuses to open and clear up an infection naturally has a lot of appeal,” stated Cassidy.

Greg’s wife has been using an all-natural nasal spray called Sinol. Sinol nasal spray is made from all natural ingredients and one of these ingredients, capsaicin, comes from the pepper. Pharmacists aren’t the only ones touting this new product; doctors from around the world have been requesting samples.

J. S. Lacroix, a researcher at University Hospital in Geneva, said, “Since capsaicin desensitizes the mucous membranes in the nose, it makes them less irritated by airborne particles, helping to relieve allergies and congestion.”

Paul Carpenter, President of Sinol USA, explains that Sinol nasal spray is an all natural formula, free of artificial preservative, and it doesn’t burn. "It’s considered by thousands of sufferers to be an important breakthrough for relieving a variety of chronic sinus, allergy and headache conditions," he said. "The medical industry is embracing this all natural nasal spray with doctors and headache clinics requesting samples.

"We sent a few thousand bottles down to Augusta," Carpenter noted. “Don’t be surprised if you see Tiger with a Sinol hat on soon.

Transamerica Financial Advisors Incorporates Interlink Electronics' eSignatures into its TFA Synergy Paperless Platform

Transamerica Financial Advisors Incorporates Interlink Electronics' eSignatures into its TFA Synergy Paperless Platform

ESignature saves time and expense by eliminating the need for scanning and shipping paper documents.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 16, 2008

Transamerica Financial Advisors, Inc. (TFA), has selected Interlink Electronics, Inc., [LINK. PK] to capture legal eSignatures on registered financial product transactions through its paperless office platform known as TFA Synergy. This electronic signature function is the third, and final, phase in the much-anticipated TFA Synergy initiative.

"Both financial reps and their clients agree that opening new accounts and transacting business needs to be handled quickly and accurately," said Sandy Brown, president of Transamerica Financial Advisors. "Adding Interlink's eSignature (http://www. interlinkelectronics. com/esign/index. html) technology to the TFA Synergy platform ensures that the reps fully leverage the paperless office platform that TFA has created. An essential process that begins electronically can now remain electronic and completely paperless."

Utilizing Interlink's e-Pad signature device in tandem with IntegriSign software, TFA representatives will capture eSignatures on electronically generated documents such as new-account forms, required disclosure forms, and product applications. Interlink's IntegriSign
Application encrypts and permanently embeds the electronic signature (http://www. interlinkelectronics. com/esign/index. html) in the document and related data such as date and time along with key biometric information (such as signing velocity and pressure) unique to each individual signature. The data is securely encrypted then tamper-proof sealed along with the form data. It is then submitted immediately via e-mail for supervisory approval and final processing.

"eSignatures ensure a straight-through process even when signatures are required. This approach significantly improves the productivity of representatives and saves time and effort for the clients as well," explains Rod Vesling, senior vice president, eTransactions with Interlink Electronics Inc.

The comprehensive TFA Synergy paperless platform is the first initiative of its type in the securities industry. It amalgamates a number of tools and technologies into a seamless application. The platform has three major components: 1) automated new account processing with e-signature, 2) web-based document management, and 3) automated compliance review. The sophisticated TFA Synergy platform was assembled from both custom-built solutions and existing components specifically repurposed for this important, timesaving application that facilitates efficient transaction processing. In addition to Interlink Electronics, other contributors of state-of-the-art technology incorporated into the system are Laserfiche® and SunGard®. These vendors were specifically selected because of their experience serving the financial-services industry.

"TFA Synergy is a unique, comprehensive paperless office platform built to order with what we consider to be the best technological solutions available in the industry today. TFA Synergy was designed to be both rep friendly and client centered and -- most important -- it was designed to be portable, easy to use, and seamless in operation," said Brown. "Using our established high standards of service, communication and independent support, as a foundation, TFA Synergy will help the Reps who make TFA their home more successful by reducing or eliminating administrative expenses that have heretofore been considered a necessary evil in the financial-services industry. This paperless platform allows producers to do what they do best--spend quality time with clients that translates directly into achieving financial goals rather than filling out and updating forms, and tracking down paper files."

 RICHARD HALL (760)728-0747

Scientific Breakthrough: Doctors Say New Substance May Relieve Depression, Anxiety And Stress For Millions.

Over 150 million Americans will suffer from a major depressive episode, anxiety or stress this year alone. All that suffering may be completely unnecessary; thanks to a well kept Russian secret.

Dr. Zakir Ramazanov, former Senior Scientist at the Russian Academy of Science, along with his associates in New York, have extracted a substance that comes from a plant found in the Georgian Republic of the former USSR. This natural plant chemical is widely used in Eastern Europe & Russia to treat depression, anxiety and stress and is currently receiving attention here in the United States.

Why? Because 80% of all illnesses can be traced to stress! The current over use of medications like Prozac, with known & unknown side effects, has caused public alarm and created a need for a safe & effective alternative. So what are the doctors saying?

Noted Psychiatrist, Psychopharmacologist, International Author & Lecturer Dr. Richard Brown of New York, has found this new substance so effective that he recommends it to his patients and supports it in his lectures and published papers. Doctor Brown isnÂ’t alone; over 300 prominent physicians can attest to its effectiveness.

Dr. Richard Brown reports “Overall I see it as a remarkable breakthrough which can help in delaying aging and reducing the effects of stress upon us which accumulate with aging...Furthermore, it improves mental functions, not just memory, but abstraction capacity, reaction time, and is an overall mental stimulantÂ…It has been extremely well tolerated, even in patients in their ninetiesÂ…I feel this is an inexpensive and time proven herbal supplement for this purpose.”

What is this new find? Rosavin. Rosavin is a phytochemical that comes from a plant called Rhodiola rosea, which grows high up in the mountainous regions of Siberia and the Georgian Republic of Russia. It has a legendary history for increasing health and longevity from generation to generation. The Georgians say that if a person drinks a tea made from Rhodiola rosea they will live more than 100 years. This Russian secret has over thirty years of intensive, well-documented, clinical trials and 300 years of history. The phytochemical, Rosavin, enables your body to cope with or adapt to a variety of stresses without adverse side effects.

Could this be a natural answer for safe & effective stress relief here in America? Dr. Richard Brown and Dr. Zakir Ramazanov say, “YES.” Not only is it safe & effective for stress, anxiety & depression, which could lead to a more resilient America, but those who have tried it are surprised at some of Rosavin’s other benefits, such as greater stamina, weight loss, improved memory & attention span.

Richard Hall, owner of AMERIDEN International, is totally committed to the goal of people having optimal health & mental wellness. To receive more information, a Bio-sheet or to schedule an interview, please call (760) 728-0747.

Riverstone Cafe Announces New "Tapas" Menu

Award-Winning Exton Restaurant Unveils Unique New Menu Complimenting a New Smoke-Free Restaurant and Bar Policy

EXTON, PA (PRWEB) May 27, 2004 -

– Riverstone Café is pleased to announce a brand new Tapas menu to accompany a new smoke-free restaurant and bar policy. The change marks Riverstone Café as one of the only smoke-free restaurant and bars in Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Tapas are a time-honored and cherished part of Spanish cuisine. A Tapa (defined from the verb tapar: to cover) originally was a slice of bread or cured ham placed over the mouth of a wine glass. As the popularity of the custom grew, so did the variety. Tapas are meant to be shared and are much more than a culinary delight. They represent a lifestyle, an opportunity to share good times with good friends in an unrushed, carefree manner.

"We are very excited to offer our guests over 25 brand new menu items that can be enjoyed in a relaxed, smoke-free environment," said David G. Wolf, President of Riverstone Cafe. "Our new menu truly showcases Riverstone Cafe's talented culinary team. This new menu, the only one of its kind in the area, along with our smoke-free restaurant and bar policy, clearly demonstrate our focus on a fun, festive,

And healthy customer experience."

"Our approach focuses on lively, seasonal dishes prepared with a careful eye towards classical technique," added Corporate Chef Anthony DiSTefano. "There is even more to choose from here at the Riverstone Cafe, and we cannot wait for our customers to try each one of our new specialties!" Executive Chef Dan Hanratty has included all new signature Tapa treats such as Paper Wrapped Tuna, Tandori Grilled Chicken, Firecracker Shrimp Spring Rolls, Hell's Kitchen Lamb Chop, and Riverstone's Classic Jumbo-lump Crab Cake.

Avert Repo Helps Lenders Avoid Repossessions and Keep More Customers

Avert Repo Helps Lenders Avoid Repossessions and Keep More Customers

Stephens & Michaels Associates, a Third Party Debt Collection Agency, Provides an Alternative to Charge-Offs and Repossessions.

Windham, NH (PRWEB) November 20, 2006

Stephens & Michaels Associates, a third party debt collection agency, has launched two new divisions, Avert Repo and Managing Collateral, in order to offer auto financers an alternative to "charging off” bad debt. “Charge-offs” are delinquent accounts in the final stage of the lender’s internal collections process, ones typically turned over to third party agencies for collection or repossession. Charging off allows lenders to account for a loss for tax purposes, but does little to help them re-coup the actual debt. Avert Repo is a program to help lenders in the final stages of the collections process before accounts are charged off and sent for repossession.

An estimated 1.1 million light vehicle repossessions occurred in the U. S. in 2005 making it a 550 million dollar industry.*

“We reduce the costs lenders face repossessing an asset,” says Marc Pellegrini, EVP of Avert Repo. “On top of repossession costs lenders lose an average of 7.5% of the principal owed during repossession and remarketing. Since three out of five defaults on auto loans in the U. S. are due to temporary financial hardship, we are able to support the customers at the critical point where an overdue account would normally go to repossession. Our goal is to rehabilitate the debt and return a healthy account back to our client. Avoiding repossession is our specialty, so an average of 50% of our accounts get reinstated.”

Pellegrini notes that Avert's success is possible due to its collaboration with Managing Collateral, a division of the company that repossesses, transports, stores and remarkets secured assets.

“Certainly, repossession is the only route we can take in some situations. We know customers are motivated to bring their accounts current when repossession is imminent. They know we are working with them by monitoring their account closely, and that their debt is no longer the lender’s responsibility. While customers realize repossession is not our main goal, they also know repossession is an option we can and will exercise if a customer cannot be held accountable.”

In addition, Avert educates consumers on their rights and responsibilities through avoidrepossession. com, a consumer guide to assist the public with debt-management.

“We hope consumers inform lenders about Avert if they trust we can impact their situation,” says Pellegrini.

About Avert –Avert is a third party accounts receivable company that combines debt collections with complete asset management. Avert educates debtors on avoiding repossession and establishes terms, thereby reconciling their agreement with the lender. Managing Collateral, Avert’s asset recovery division, works with Avert's collection department on delinquent accounts in the final default stage. Recovery is increased by leveraging assets during the collection process. Unresolved accounts are forwarded to Managing Collateral where items are repossessed, transported and remarketed. This allows for creditors to use one company to manage their assets, increase customer retention and reduce repossessions up to 50%. Grant Expert Warns Consumers to Beware of NY Consumer Protection Board

Grant Expert Warns Consumers to Beware of NY Consumer Protection Board

Free money master Matthew Lesko demystifies government grant programs and claims.

Kensington, MD (PRWEB) December 28, 2004

Grant expert Matthew Lesko (http://www. lesko. com/truth) claims the New York Consumer Protection BoardÂ’s (CPB) misleading statements in their new report about government programs can be hurting up to 50 million of the same consumers they are trying to help.

Because of the high volume of consumer complaints, the CPB recently issued a report cracking down on scam artists who charge high fees by promising free government money (http://www. lesko. com/truth). “It is a noble effort to try to eliminate cheats and crooks in our society but not the right approach because it is turning millions of taxpayers away from government programs who are eligible for this help,” says best-selling author Matthew Lesko.

Throughout the CPB report and in its nationally distributed news release, the agency warns consumers against trusting anyone selling information about “little-known” government money programs. The CPB claims most consumers already know about these programs or can easily find out. But recent studies by the Congress, U. S. investigative agencies and non-profit organizations prove that:

4 Million Seniors can receive up to $1,000 from Medicare but they donÂ’t apply because they are unaware of the program (*1) 6 Million Families are missing out on free health insurance for their kids (*2) 10 Million Families can get up to $4,000 a year for groceries but donÂ’t apply (*3) 800,000 College Students can receive grants up to $4,050 but donÂ’t apply (*4) 29 Million Seniors donÂ’t know they can get colonoscopies, bone mass measurement, prostate cancer and glaucoma tests paid for by Medicare (*5)

And if the CPB says itÂ’s so easy to find out about government programs, then why does a recent U. S. Government Accountability Office study (*6) reveal that:

39% of recent consumers who called the Medicare hotline with questions got the wrong answer or no answer at all, and 96% of the doctors who called into Medicare got the wrong answer or only a partial answer.

The CPB report characterizes Matthew Lesko’s web site and some of his books as providing “solid and useful…” but then blames Lesko’s legitimate advertising as somehow encouraging scam artists. The CPB also discloses that there are zero complaints and no investigation against Lesko.

NY Consumer Protection Board DoesnÂ’t Know U. S. OMB

The CPB also states that there is very little free money available for individuals from the government because…“Experts say most government grants only go to agencies and organizations – not individuals.” They base this statement on their interview with an U. S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) official.

Although this is a true statement from OMB about government grants, it is a false statement about all free money from the government. OMB categorizes most free government money to individuals under the term “direct payments.” The OMB budget figures show that in 2003 the government gave out $250 billion in grants to individuals (most of which go through local governments and agencies) but also gave out $1 trillion in direct payments to individuals (*7). The CPB should call back the OMB and get the correct information.

And if there is very little money available to individuals, why does the former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York write in a recent book (*8) that consumers receive $1.2 trillion dollars in federal, state and local government handouts every year?

About Matthew Lesko

Lesko has devoted over 25 years educating consumers on how to get their tax dollars back from government programs that have been enacted into law. Recently, he has been giving lectures to wounded GIs at Walter Reed Hospital (www. lesko. com/walterreed. html (http://www. lesko. com/walterreed. html)) about little-known government money programs that can help these veterans put their lives back together as well as helping Iraqi War Widows (www. lesko. com/starsstripes (http://www. lesko. com/starsstripes)). They, too, are all unaware of the thousands of government grant and free money opportunities that can help in their hour of need.

It seems an abuse of power by the NY Consumer Protection Board to issue press releases and reports that mislead consumers about the opportunities available to all taxpayers to improve their lives.

Please visit www. lesko. com/truth (http://www. lesko. com/truth) for more information. Matthew Lesko is available for interviews 24/7.

Capella University PhD Graduate Appointed Prestigious Endowed Chair Position

Capella University PhD Graduate Appointed Prestigious Endowed Chair Position

Rodney Hicks appointed nation's first endowed chair for patient safety in a school of nursing.

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) April 1, 2008

Rodney W. Hicks, PhD, R. N., a 2006 PhD from Capella University (http://www. capella. edu/default. aspx), an accredited, online university (http://www. capella. edu/online_university. aspx), has been appointed by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing to the nation's first endowed chair for patient safety in a school of nursing. The position was created through a partnership between University Medical Center (UMC) Health System and the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX, because of a growing concern for patient safety; an important priority for hospitals across the nation.

"When you step into the hospital there is risk everywhere," said Rodney Hicks. "We have a responsibility to make the system safer so patients don't have to worry about losing their life. It's not bad people working in the health system, rather, the system itself is flawed."

His responsibility as endowed chair is to promote a culture of patient safety for nursing students and the clinical staff at UMC. The objective is to create a partnership between academic institutions and teaching hospitals, while allowing students to gain an appreciation for patient safety while attending school.

"In part, the real success of our fully online approach to learning is demonstrated by the accomplishments and successes of our Capella graduates", commented Chris Cassirer, dean of Capella University's School of Human Services, and a patient safety expert. "We are extremely proud of Rod's appointment and dedication to improving patient safety."

Hicks was chosen to be the inaugural UMC Health System Endowed Chair for Patient Safety because of his meticulous research. He became a nationally recognized leader in patient safety from conducting and evaluating medication error studies while employed at the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), where he gained a very strong knowledge of patient safety issues at the national level.

Hicks recognizes his success in researching patient safety from his extensive course work while pursuing his doctorate in health care administration (http://www. capella. edu/schools_programs/human_services/phd/health_care_administration. aspx) at Capella University (http://www. capella. edu/default. aspx). "What I learned in the course room was immediately relevant to the work I was doing at USP. Capella encouraged a synergy between my professional responsibilities and academic opportunities."

Yucaipa, CA (PRWEB) February 18, 2009

This simple guide is packed with solid and proven methods to assist parents in getting started with strengthening the family. It begins with a challenge for parents: "We need to work hard to help our children build character in their lives and give them a proper understanding of the priorities that will help to ensure a successful future."

The report then leads parents through practical, yet powerful methods to carry the great responsibility of parenting today. An excerpt from ways a parent can help their children avoid temptation emphasizes the importance of proper modest behavior: "More often than not modesty is associated with conservative clothing as opposed to provocative or sexy attire. In my experience, the vast majority of parents regularly set an exemplary example when it comes to this aspect of modesty. But the most important aspect of this virtue is the godly attitude that a modest person exhibits."

'10 Steps to Raising Moral Children began as a simple one paragraph per point guide for parents,' shared Michedolene, 'It was expected to be published as an article on the site, but as the article was developed we realized that we were barely touching the surface on these topics and that parents needed and deserved more.'

Performance Drink Sales Solid in Sports Nutritional Market Beverages Accounted for 63% of Retail Sales in 2003, According to New Study

Downsizing fast food portions and jumping on the low-carb bandwagon have provided a starting point for controlling the obesity epidemic in the United States, but American consumers are still seeking ways to boost energy and supplement a "healthier" lifestyle with minimal effort.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 29, 2004 - Downsizing fast food portions and jumping on the low-

Carb bandwagon have provided a starting point for controlling the obesity epidemic in the United States, but American consumers are still seeking ways to boost energy and supplement a "healthier" lifestyle with minimal effort.

Marketers of sports and energy beverages realize this, and business is booming, according to "The U. S. Market for Sports Nutritional Products" a new study by market research publisher Packaged Facts. In the overall retail market for sports nutritional products, valued at $3.1 billion in 2003, beverages accounted for 63% of sales, according to the new report.

These drinks are being marketed more heavily for their "nutritional" rather than "sports" benefits, as most consumers are looking for a quick, fortified pick me up during their hectic daily routines, rather than after a "hard-core" workout. Packaged Facts data indicates that physically active adults are only 10% more likely to use sports beverages than is the general adult population.

"There’s a certain cache to foods and beverages that are positioned as ‘sports’ products," said Don Montuori, Acquisitions Editor for Packaged Facts. "Energy drinks and bars allow even the most ardent gym-avoider to engage in a healthy activity, even if it means never leaving the couch."

"The U. S. Market for Sports Nutritional Products, 5th Edition," covers the latest new product and marketing trends. The competitive landscape and major players are featured, along with consumer preferences and product usage, demographic breakouts, and forecasts through 2008. Three major categories are segmented, including supplements, beverages, and sports and energy bars and gels. The report is available for $3000 directly from the publisher, Packaged Facts, at http://www. packagedfacts. com/pub/935933.html (http://www. packagedfacts. com/pub/935933.html). It can also be purchased through MarketResearch. com.

Clorox Medical Researcher Discredits Clorox Toxic Mold Advertising

Clorox Medical Researcher Discredits Clorox Toxic Mold Advertising

(PRWEB) August 3, 2005

A medical researcher from Denver, Colorado-based National Jewish Hospital has issued statements that directly contradict health claims made by cleaning-products giant Clorox Corporation. National Jewish Hospital promotes itself as the "Global Leader in Immunological Research."

Clorox Corp., with $4.1 billion in revenues, is the manufacturer of Clorox bleach and numerous other brands. Recently, Clorox has been promoting its flagship bathroom cleaning product -- Tilex Mold and Mildew -- with a series of heavily rotated humorous television ads that feature a homeowner screaming and running out of the house with the tagline: "All homes have mold." In contrast to the tone of this, on the Tilex website there is reference to the potential health dangers of exposure to certain types of mold, including symptoms of lung tissue damage and memory loss.

However, in a December 9, 2004 statement made in a Jefferson County, CO District Court deposition for a case concerning toxic mold damages claimed by a Denver woman (Lake vs. Village Homes, Case No. 03CV4227, Divison 10), National Jewish researcher Dr. Karin Pacheco appeared to discredit the Tilex claims. Dr. Pacheco's qualifications as an expert witness relate to her ongoing medical study of the allergic potential of mold. While under oath, Dr. Pacheco made reference to established links of mold to diseases like asthma, but added that "she wasn't convinced that mold exposure can cause wider, long-term illnesses."

Pacheco's statements are noteworthy, as sources have discovered that funding for at least part of her work comes directly from grants from the Clorox Corporation itself. In the spring of 2004, National Jewish conducted a Clorox-sponsored research study on the allergic effects of mold that had been killed by bleach. The study was conducted by Dr. Pacheco and Lee Newman, MD. Extracts of the mold Aspergillis Fumigatus, a notorious fungi that has been implicated in cases of lung tissue damage and memory loss among other symptoms, was administered to human subjects via skin pricks.

Watchdog groups are calling the discrepancy on the public messaging into question. Jonathan Lee Wright, Director of the Fungal Disease Resource Center, Inc, a Denver, Colorado-based nonprofit supporting victims of toxic mold, had this to say. "While we didn't find the commercial to be too funny, we support the warning that the Clorox Corporation is issuing to the public here. There is now an overwhelming amount of scientific data that supports a link of mold exposures to serious illness," Wright commented. "That there is such conflicting information coming out of a well-respected organization like National Jewish is alarming."

Added Wright, "We are calling for a formal clarification of the position of National Jewish Hospital on whether they support the advertising of one of their corporate grantors -- Clorox corporation -- or not."

Giving Employees Control Best Way to Control Healthcare Costs

Giving Employees Control Best Way to Control Healthcare Costs

While band-aid solutions by employers have kept healthcare costs in check, radical surgery is needed for U. S. healthcare plans to stave off anticipated inflationary increases. Instead of shifting costs, industry experts advocate shifting more healthcare information and choice into employees’ hands as the best defense against healthcare’s financial woes. Reaping the payoffs of consumer-driven health plans, prescription drug programs and disease management efforts is the focus of “Controlling Healthcare Costs in 2005,” a 90-minute audio conference on February 23, 2005. An expert panel will detail how employers can combat this year’s anticipated 12 percent increase in healthcare costs by making their employees more accountable for their health and healthcare and refining employer prescription plans.

Wall Township, NJ (PRWEB) February 3, 2005

Sponsored by the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN), this conference is scheduled for 1:30 p. m. to 3:00 p. m. Eastern Time on February 23, 2005. To learn more, please visit http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? costs05rel (http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? costs05rel).

The audio conference was prompted by a Hewitt Associates survey of 500 major U. S. employers, who responded that they anticipate a 12 percent increase in healthcare costs in 2005 but can only afford a maximum 8 percent increase. UNTÂ’s College of Business Administration gets big grant from Department of Veterans Affairs

UNT's College of Business Administration will use grant money to establish a cyber security project management office within the Department of Veterans Affairs.

DENTON (PRWEB) September 6, 2002 -

Year grant totaling $978,000 to UNTÂ’s College of Business Administration.

The grant will be used to establish a cyber security project management office within the VA. UNTÂ’s Leon A. Kappelman, professor and director of the Information Systems Research Center (ISRC), will lead the efforts.

“Vulnerabilities associated with Internet and other cyber security risks put government, businesses and individual users at risk,” said Kappelman. “The VA not only protects the personal medical records of millions of veterans, but as the largest health care organization in the US, also plays a key role in homeland security. This is a fantastic opportunity for the College of Business Administration to help the whole country.”

Kappelman and the ISRC have been assisting the VA in the transformation of how it manages and uses technology to serve the nation's 25 million veterans, and their widows and orphans. In March 2002, he testified before a Congressional subcommittee about the VAÂ’s progress on integrated enterprise architecture, cyber security and several other major technology initiatives.

Bruce Brody, associate deputy assistant secretary for cyber security for the VA said, "Information security is one of the more complex challenges facing government and industry. We are constantly attempting to bring the appropriate intellectual resources to bear in meeting our immense responsibilities in this arena. Dr. Kappelman and the resources he will provide through the ISRC will contribute substantially to the execution of our mission."

VA is the largest civilian department in the federal government with a budget of over $55 billion, an annual IT budget of about $1.4 billion and over 4000 IT professionals among its total population of 230,000 employees.

Leon A. Kappelman, Ph. D. is a research scientist, teacher, author, speaker and consultant dedicated to helping organizations better manage their information, systems and technology assets. He is considered one of the worldÂ’s leading technology management experts.

IQMax’s Enterprise ASP Platform Surpasses 2005 Projections with over 2,000,000 Transactions Served

IQMax’s Enterprise ASP Platform Surpasses 2005 Projections with over 2,000,000 Transactions Served

Demonstrating the exponential growth of mobile computing in healthcare, IQMax is pleased to announce that their IQAnywhere mobile ASP (application solution provider) platform has exceeded projected use for the past year by exceeding 2,000,000 transactions.

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) December 14, 2005

Demonstrating the exponential growth of mobile computing in healthcare, IQMax is pleased to announce that their IQAnywhere mobile ASP (application solution provider) platform has exceeded projected use for the past year by exceeding 2,000,000 transactions.

Implementing productivity-enhancing solutions, while improving patient care and reducing medical care errors, are critical goals of organizations across the healthcare continuum. Accomplishing these lofty goals while limiting capital expenditures and minimizing internal resource requirements is the challenge. The IQMax IQAnywhere mobile platform combined with its dictation, charge capture and clinical results solutions is what has placed IQMax as a leader in mobile computing technology.

According to healthcare CIO’s, a patient centric healthcare IT solution must be reliably available 7/24/365 and be able to scale to accommodate peaks in performance demands. Combine this high availability and performance requirements with ease of use, simplicity of support and security compliance to meet HIPAA guidelines and very few PDA suppliers can provide a platform that exceeds these stringent system mandates.

“We designed our ASP platform from the ground up to exceed the demands of the healthcare market,” says Chris Updegraft, VP Engineering and Chief Architect of IQMax. “Our architecture includes a distributed synchronization model that assures consistent, reliable and fast data syncs for the providers.”

A key differentiator between the IQMax Mobile Enterprise platform and most other healthcare mobile solutions is its ability to rapidly synchronize very large file transmissions (typically five megabyte and larger). Combine this capability with the ability for hundreds of concurrent users to simultaneously sync with any of over forty different PDA models and the IQMax platform proves its “best in class” performance.

“Healthcare organizations have embraced the ASP platform model as a cost effective, yet reliable means of providing critical solutions to their providers” says Paul Adkison, CEO and founder of IQMax. “Due to the minimal infrastructure and resources required for IQAnywhere, our solutions can be implemented and in productive use in days.”

The IQMax ASP platform processes transactions from the suite of IQMax solutions including charges generated through IQCharge™, patient census and schedule lists, clinical results with IQRounds, dictation with IQSpeak and automated software updates. The company will also start providing e prescribing and formularies in 2006.

For institutions preferring to manage their own platforms, IQMax additionally provides their IQAnywhere ASP platform as a premise installable IQEnterprise server. Organizations that are interested in operating the IQMax mobile platform as their own internal ASP can deploy IQEnterprise and benefit from the same reliability and scalability provided with IQAnywhere.

North Shore-LIJ and ProHealth Target Employee Wellness with New Fitness Facility

North Shore-LIJ and ProHealth Target Employee Wellness with New Fitness Facility

With health reform focus on disease prevention, NY’s largest hospital network moves into wellness business by rolling out ‘healthy living campaign’ for 42,000+ employees.

Lake Success, NY (Vocus) December 17, 2010

The North Shore-LIJ Health System and ProHealth Care Associates LLP today announced the opening of “Vivo Health Fitness at ProHealth,” a 15,000-square-foot health club located at 3 Delaware Drive in the Lake Success Quadrangle. The center, part of North Shore-LIJ’s new push into the wellness business to meet the anticipated demands of federal health reform, features exercise equipment, aerobics and spin classes, a wellness spa and programs like yoga, stress management and nutrition seminars taught by clinicians from North Shore-LIJ.

With health reform’s focus on improving public health and disease prevention, North Shore-LIJ is entering the community wellness arena with initial offerings targeted to its workforce of 42,000+ and their families. With 15 hospitals and other facilities on Long Island, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island, the health system plans on opening additional fitness centers throughout the region, so employees and their families can take advantage of this benefit at convenient locations throughout the region.

More than 16,000 North Shore-LIJ employees work within 2 ½ miles of Vivo Health Fitness, so the facility’s convenient location is expected to be a draw for many.

Employees and their families can join the fitness center for a discounted monthly membership fee of $40 (non-employees pay $65 a month).

In addition to offering discounted fitness memberships, North Shore-LIJ is introducing several other employee-focused wellness initiatives in 2011. During North Shore-LIJ’s recent benefits enrollment period, employees had the opportunity to accept three “wellness pledges” to lower the cost of their health insurance premiums. Employees could pledge not to smoke (or quit if they currently smoke), have an annual physical exam and complete a health risk assessment online. For each pledge made, employees will receive a $10 credit – a total savings of $30 per paycheck or $780 annually.

In addition, North Shore-LIJ is helping employees and their families combat childhood obesity as part of a new partnership with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation– a joint venture between the American Heart Association and the Clinton Foundation. Beginning in January, North Shore-LIJ employees concerned about their child’s health can bring them to the Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York for consults with pediatricians specializing in weight management, followed by up to four visits with a community based nutritionist. All costs – including co-pays – will be covered by the health system and North Shore-LIJ’s health insurance plans, helping parents to address a child’s weight problem and prevent more serious potential health problems later in life.

“We view all of these initiatives – Vivo Health Fitness, the wellness pledges and Alliance for a Healthier Generation – as important first steps in our commitment to wellness and changing the way we deliver healthcare,” said North Shore-LIJ President and CEO Michael Dowling. “We will be implementing additional health and wellness activities and programs for employees and the community-at-large in the coming months and years.”

Among the unique features of Vivo Health Fitness at ProHealth is a computerized system called “FitLinxx” that enables members to track their progress. Health club members are entitled to two complimentary sessions with a personal trainer, who develops an exercise plan based on a health assessment performed on each individual and his/her fitness goals – to lose weight, gain muscle, etc. The workout plan is entered into FitLinxx, which is networked wirelessly to touch-screen monitors attached directly to exercise equipment. Every time they use a machine, members can type in a personal passcode that links them to the fitness regimen developed with their trainer, including information like how much resistance should be on the machine and the number of repetitions they perform. FitLinxx coaches users through their workout for better form and safety, and tracks their progress.

About North Shore-LIJ Health System
The nation's second-largest, non-profit, secular healthcare system, North Shore-LIJ is an integrated academic health system that delivers world-class clinical care throughout the New York metropolitan area, pioneering research at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and a visionary approach to medical education, highlighted by the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine. The health system’s 110 residency and fellowship programs serve as a training ground for more than 1,200 future physicians, many of whom hone their skills at North Shore-LIJ’s Patient Safety Institute – one of the nation’s largest patient simulation centers. As evidence of its commitment to community health and patient-focused research, Feinstein Institute scientists and North Shore-LIJ physicians enroll more than 1,200 people every year in clinical research studies. North Shore-LIJ’s owned hospitals and long-term care facilities house about 5,600 beds, employ more than 10,000 nurses and have affiliations with more than 9,000 physicians.
