Deloitte & Touche Fast 50 Program Rankings Released

(PRWEB) September 28, 2003

MINNEAPOLIS – September 29, 2003 – QRS Diagnostic, leader in innovative design and development of software-based medical devices contained in computer cards, announces that it ranks 25th among Minnesota’s fastest growing technology companies, according to the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50 program. The Fast 50 rankings are based on percentage growth in revenues from 1998 to 2002.

QRS Diagnostic has achieved 300 percent revenue growth over the past five years. Spencer Lien, chief executive officer, credits the basic soundness of the companyÂ’s business strategy and the strength of its patented medical device technology for the success of QRS.

“QRS Diagnostic focuses on high-volume diagnostic procedures, such as pulmonary function tests and electrocardiography, that physicians perform every day and for which all insurers pay,” said Lien. “With our patented computer card technology platform, we develop upgradeable, affordable computer card devices for these tests that turn off-the-shelf PDAs and handheld PCs into full-function, mobile diagnostic workstations.”

“To rank on the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50, companies must have phenomenal revenue growth in the five-year period,” said Ron Hafner, Deloitte & Touche partner. “QRS Diagnostic has proven to be one of the fast-growth success stories in Minnesota, and we applaud their success and vision.”

To qualify for the Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 1998 and $1.0 million in 2002; must be public or private companies headquartered in Minnesota; and must be technology companies, defined as companies that own proprietary technology, manufacture a technology product, or devote a high percentage of effort to the research and development of technology. Relegent and HealthTeacher Merge

Relegent and HealthTeacher Merge

Move will expand RelegentÂ’s health content service offering to include schools.

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) December 23, 2004

Relegent today announced the acquisition of HealthTeacher from Health Strategies, a Nashville, Tenn.-based provider of health curriculum to K-12 Schools through the Internet and Print. Privately held, HealthTeacher has continually grown since its creation by The Health Network and now serves over 3,000 schools worldwide, including The State of Delaware and Bom Jesus Schools in Brazil.

The acquisition of HealthTeacher will enhance RelegentÂ’s growing content business by strengthening its capability to offer a wider continuum of health education to both schools and hospitals.

“The HealthTeacher brand is one of the most respected in health curriculum as it was built on the National Health Education Standards and backed by more than five years of high-quality work and commitment to teachers and students,” said J. Tod Fetherling, president and chief executive officer of Relegent. “We believe there is a significant opportunity to create a competitive advantage within the education and healthcare outsourcing markets for health content. By combining with a well-established company like HealthTeacher we can take advantage of this opportunity sooner and on a larger scale,” he added.

“Health and Education are the two fastest growing segments of the GDP combining for approximately 22% of total expenditures,” said Anita Davis, president of Health Strategies. “Unfortunately, health education in schools has long been a low priority and we as a nation are now paying multiples on healthcare because of poor lifestyle choices that are learned at an early age. We are working with school districts throughout the world to elevate the status of health education through our curriculum”

Funk Ventures continues on Wellness Path, Invests in CoolSystems and Surfparks

Funk Ventures continues on Wellness Path, Invests in CoolSystems and Surfparks

Funk Ventures continues to pursue opportunities in the wellness space, positioning itself as one of the premier wellness investors in the country.

Canoga Park, CA (PRWEB) May 23, 2005

Funk Ventures Capital Partners (“FVCP”), the venture capital unit of Funk Ventures, continues to aggressively pursue opportunities in the wellness space, as evidenced by its two most recent investments, CoolSystems, Inc. and Surfparks Holdings, LLC. FVCP participated in CoolSystem’s most recent round of financing in February ‘05 and just closed its investment in Surfparks Holdings’ seed round earlier this month.

“Our entire team is extremely passionate about the wellness sector, personally as well as professionally”, says Andy J. Funk, Managing Director of FVCP. “These days, we are pursuing wellness opportunities ranging from medical devices, life sciences and alternative medicine to quality of life, sustainable living and green technologies”.

CoolSystemÂ’s sports injury device, for instance, employs patented technology originally developed for NASA to simultaneously deliver cold therapy and intermittent compression to accelerate the body's natural healing process, allowing athletes and active people to recover from sports injuries in half the normal time. Recently rated the #1 product to watch in 2005 by Inc Magazine, GameReady is the most effective soft tissue injury treatment system available in the marketplace today.

“Our technology bridges the medical device and consumer product marketplaces, so we looked for a venture partner with expertise in both of those arenas", says Tom Oliver, CEO of CoolSystems, formerly of PowerBar. "With its diverse approach to wellness and healthcare, Funk Ventures has proven to be a perfect fit for our company”.

No less exciting than CoolSystems is Surfparks, the company developing the first wave pool facility built specifically for surfing and bodyboarding to accommodate all levels of wave-riding enthusiasts. $3 million in construction financing and over $6 million in venture funding was secured last week, with FVCP and Ron Jon Worldwide leading the venture round. The Ron Jon Surfpark will be an anchor attraction at Festival Bay Mall, located on International Drive in the heart of Orlando, FloridaÂ’s entertainment district. Construction of the first Surfpark is expected to begin this summer, with a grand opening planned for mid 2006.

“Given Funk Ventures’ expertise in venture capital and real estate investing, Surfparks has become a great platform to build our relationship with them”, says Jamie Meiselman, CEO and Founder of Surfparks. “We are looking forward to rolling out additional facilities and hope to keep Funk Ventures as an active investor”.

About Funk Ventures

Funk Ventures is a multi-faceted investment firm headquartered in Los Angeles, California. The firmÂ’s diversified business segments span from venture capital to investment banking and real estate. The firmÂ’s venture capital arm, which makes value-add investments in promising companies in the wellness space, is complemented by an investment banking unit which provides access to outside capital to private and emerging companies. Funk Ventures is also actively involved in developing and investing in real estate, with a focus on resort destinations and sustainable living communities. About CoolSystems

CoolSystems, Inc. was born out of a revolutionary idea-that spacesuit technology can treat athletic injuries. As a designer for NASA and inductee into the US Space Foundation's Hall of Fame, the companyÂ’s founder helped pioneer the technology involved in controlling temperature and pressure within a flexible garment. In 1998, the company began working with athletes, athletic trainers, and doctors to expand his discoveries into the realm of sports medicine. Today, the companyÂ’s GameReady device is the most effective soft tissue injury treatment system available in the marketplace. Hip Hop's Missy Elliott Headlines Black Sports Agents Association Sports & Music Camp for Kids in San Pablo

Health and physical fitness are the buzz words for the second annual Black Sports Agents Association's Sports and Music Camp at Contra Costa College. Multi-platinum recording artist Missy Elliott headllines this camp that will attract over 2,000 kids, who are interested in becoming the best they can be.

San Pablo, CA (PRWEB) August 1, 2006

Over 2,000 students from the Bay Area will take part in a one-day sports and fitness program on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Contra Costa College in San Pablo. The event is sponsored by the Blacks Sports Agents Association (BSAA) is the brainchild of Kennedy High School graduate Andre Farr.

The 2nd annual BSAA Sports and Music Camp is open to students in grades K-12 and features instruction by professional athletes and entertainment performers in the fields of basketball, soccer, football and baseball, plus dance and choreography.

The highlight of the day will be when mega hip-hop sensation and multi-platinum recording artist Missy Elliott will teach a dance routine and then put on a short concert for the campers. In addition to Elliott’s moves, choreographer Debbie Allen will also be getting the kids moving as she teaches a dance class at 8:45 that’s sure to get the campers’ blood pumping.

“This is something that our members (BSAA) take very seriously,” said Farr, who is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BSAA and also serves on the Board of Directors of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Physical Fitness Sports Council. “This is our giveback. It’s one of 12 camps we hold across the country in underserved communities.”

In addition to the camp’s interactive fitness and integrated nutrition program that emphasizes total body conditioning and wellness, all of the students must take part in the Disciplined and Respected Entreprenurial (D. R.E.) Program, a summer internship program that teaches the kids entrepreneurial skills. Headlining that part of the program is Quintin E. Primo III, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Capri Capital Advisors, LLC of Chicago.

“It’s never too early to start talking to kids about how important it is to think about their future,” said Primo, who is also a major sponsor of the event. “I’m a big believer in mentoring children, and that’s why I’m involved in this camp that is designed to empower our youth to become disciplined and respected young entrepreneurs.”

A similar camp will be held in the Los Angeles area on September 9. MTV’s Nick Cannon will be the headliner of that camp.

Atlanta Executive Coach Receives Assessment Tool Certification

Atlanta Executive Coach Receives Assessment Tool Certification

Beth Miller of Executive Velocity Inc., an Atlanta-based executive coaching firm, recently enhanced her client offering by receiving certification in the internationally recognized Hogan Assessments.

Atlanta, GA (Vocus) February 23, 2009

Determining an individual's personality assets is a critical part of a professional coaching (http://executive-velocity. com) engagement but one that not every coach is credentialed to offer clients. Beth Miller of Executive Velocity Inc., an Atlanta-based executive coaching (http://executive-velocity. com) firm, recently enhanced her client offering by receiving certification in the internationally recognized Hogan Assessments.

Miller is now certified for all three Hogan Assessments: Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI), Hogan Development Survey (HDS), and Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI). As a certified practioner, Ms. Miller can deliver the Hogan Assessments to both businesses and individuals, as well as provide feedback to assessed individuals, which is typically the most complex portion of the assessment process. In fact, nationally, since 2006, only 43 of the 400 people who attended the Hogan Assessment certification have completed the feedback certification with a Hogan consultant.

The Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI) is the industry standard for measuring normal personality; with a 25-year history of successfully predicting employee performance and helping companies reduce turnover, absenteeism, shrinkage, and poor customer service. It was the first inventory of normal personality developed specifically for the business community. The Hogan Personality Inventory identifies the bright side of the personality - what we see when people are at their best.

The Hogan Development Survey (HDS) assesses eleven behavioral tendencies that impede work relationships, hinder productivity, or limit overall career potential. These career derailers, deeply ingrained in personality traits, affect an individual's leadership style and actions.

The Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI) reveals a person's core values, goals and interests. This is invaluable information for determining the kinds of environments in which the person will perform best, and the kind of culture the person will create as a leader. Organizations can use this information to ensure that a new hire's values are consistent with those of the organization.

"I recommend the Hogan Assessments for my clients who are serious about understanding how inherent personality traits, as well as ingrained behaviors, can both propel them forward in their careers, as well as hold them back, if they are not aware of the effect on team members."

To learn more about the Hogan Assessments or to schedule a consultation contact Beth Armknecht Miller at beth. miller at executive-velocity dot com or

AP9 Privacy Matters 1-2-3 Offers Seniors Tips to Guard Against the Dangers of Identity Fraud

AP9 Privacy Matters 1-2-3 Offers Seniors Tips to Guard Against the Dangers of Identity Fraud

AP9 Privacy Matters 1-2-3 helps protect consumers against the increasing threats of identity fraud.

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) August 24, 2006

As reported cases of identity fraud continue to grow, the number of seniors getting taken in by fraudulent offers climbs ever higher as well, reports AP9 Privacy Matters 1-2-3 (http://www. privacymatters123-program. com/), a leading security membership program offered by Adaptive Marketing LLC.

Whether it’s because they were raised during a kinder, more trusting era or it’s due to the lapses in concentration that sometimes come with age, senior citizens tend to be easier targets for identity fraud than the overall U. S. population. (That’s not to say that younger folks have less to worry about, of course. Identity thieves can and will target anyone at any time.) Because many seniors live on fixed incomes, identity fraud can hit them the hardest, emptying their bank accounts and leaving them with little or no way to recoup their losses.

Prevention and quick detection are often the best defenses against identity fraud. AP9 Privacy Matters 123 (http://www. privacymatters123-program. com/) therefore offers a few tips to help seniors protect themselves against this crime:

--Don’t trust incoming calls. Even if you have an unlisted number, anyone on the planet can stumble across your number and call you. The chances that a stranger is calling to offer you a great deal are low. If the caller is offering you something that appeals to you, ask for the name of his or her company and a callback number. Research the company before returning the call. If you can’t find any information or if the company seems questionable, throw away the phone number.

--Guard your personal data diligently. Never give your Social Security number, credit card number, bank account number or even your home address to incoming callers. Only share your financial information if you’re making a purchase with a legitimate company during a phone call that you initiated.

--Shred the evidence. Use a paper shredder to destroy any unnecessary or duplicate documents that may contain sensitive, identity-specific information, including unsolicited credit card offers and other direct-mail pieces that thieves can use to create accounts in your name.

--Build firewalls. Install computer software programs to protect your computer from spyware, hackers, viruses and other Internet threats. A small investment now can save you thousands of dollars down the road.

--Safeguard your mailbox. Don’t leave outgoing mail in an unprotected mailbox overnight or over the weekend. Thieves can steal rent checks, credit card payments and other valuable or identity-specific materials from unlocked mailboxes.

--Monitor your credit reports regularly. As soon as you spot questionable or unauthorized activity on your credit report, contact the credit bureau to place a fraud alert on your credit report, and investigate the matter immediately.

While it’s impossible to wipe out identity fraud as long as there are potential victims, there are a number of measures you can take to avoid being taken in yourself. The first step is to recognize that your identity is potentially at risk in a variety of situations, and the next step is to get into the habit of protecting yourself wherever such a risk exists, notes AP9 Privacy Matters 1-2-3.

New PSA Campaign Encourages Three-Step Plan to Fight Flu

New PSA Campaign Encourages Three-Step Plan to Fight Flu

- National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) Launches "Don't Let the Flu Close in on You" Television Spots - PSAs also available online at www. nfid. org - Three steps recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent influenza: vaccination, good hygiene, and antiviral medications.

Bethesda, MD (PRWEB) February 22, 2007 -

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) (http://www. nfid. org) has launched a television public service announcement (PSA) campaign to educate Americans about the three steps recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent influenza: vaccination, good hygiene, and antiviral medications.

The "Don't Let the Flu Close in on You" PSAs (http://www. nfid. org/influenza/media%5Fpsa. html) are also available online on NFID's Web site, along with additional educational information about influenza.

Each year, one out of every five Americans will get influenza, a serious and sometimes deadly infection. Vaccination and good hygiene are the most effective ways to prevent influenza, but treatment is available for those who do get sick.

"We don't have to take the flu lying down," said Susan Rehm, M. D., NFID medical director. "We have clear ways to prevent and treat influenza -- including an annual influenza vaccination, practicing good hygiene and taking prescription antivirals, should we get sick. The influenza season can sustain through April or May. Now is the time to understand the symptoms of influenza and take appropriate steps if you do get sick, such as calling the doctor at the first signs of flu."

Don't Let the Flu Close in on You is part of NFID's ongoing campaign to educate people about influenza prevention and treatment. The initiative is made possible through an educational grant from Roche.

About Influenza (http://www. nfid. org/influenza/)

Influenza, more commonly referred to as "the flu," is a highly contagious viral infection of the nose, throat and lungs. Influenza occurs most often in the late fall, winter and early spring. It is a serious infection which afflicts more than 60 million Americans every year.

Influenza impacts people of all ages. Common symptoms include a high fever (101ºF-102ºF) that begins suddenly, sore throat, chills, cough, headache and muscle aches. Influenza frequently causes people to miss school and work but in some cases there are severe complications such as pneumonia. Each year, more than 200,000 Americans are hospitalized and about 36,000 die from influenza-related complications.

About National Foundation for Infectious Diseases

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID) is a non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public foundation established in 1973 to educate the public and health care professionals about the causes, treatment and prevention of infectious diseases.

American Statistical Association to Present Course on Internal Decision Making in Early Drug Development

American Statistical Association to Present Course on Internal Decision Making in Early Drug Development

The American Statistical Association (ASA) will present a half-day course titled "Evaluating Probability of Success for Internal Decision Making in Early Drug Development" on Thursday, April 2, 8 am to 12:30 pm at the Cerner Vision Center on Cerner Corporation's World Headquarters Campus in Kansas City, Missouri. Registration will remain open through Friday, March 27. Pricing and online registration are available on the ASA web site at https://www. amstat. org/education/learnstat/idad/index. cfm.

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) February 25, 2009

The American Statistical Association (ASA) will present a half-day course titled "Evaluating Probability of Success for Internal Decision Making in Early Drug Development" on Thursday, April 2, 8 am to 12:30 pm at the Cerner Vision Center on Cerner Corporation's World Headquarters Campus in Kansas City, Missouri. The course is being held in conjunction with the Symposium on "Innovations in Design, Analysis, and Dissemination: Frontiers in Biostatistical Methods."

The course will discuss at length the statistical tools that enable quantification of the uncertainty associated with the results coming from learning stage studies. Early development (the "learning stage") is a crucial period of the drug development process, as decisions to continue or halt development of a compound must be made with incomplete information. Incorrect decisions have large opportunity costs (the lost sales of a halted good drug or the unfunded alternative good projects with funds wasted on a bad drug). These tools use the Bayesian approach to exploit the totality of accumulated data/knowledge in a formal way for internal decision-making in early drug development.

The course will be taught by the following individuals:
Narinder Nangia, Ph. D., who has over 15 years experience as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry, in both learning and confirming stages of drug development across several therapeutic areas including Pain, Inflammation, CNS, and Oncology.

Martin King, Ph. D, who has more than 10 years experience as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry, including both early - and late-stage clinical development (Phase 2-4) in the Antiviral, Oncology, and Dyslipidemia areas.

Jane Qian, Ph. D. has over 13 years experience as a statistician in the pharmaceutical industry, including both early - and late-stage clinical development (Phase 1-4) in Cardiovascular and Metabolic, Oncology, Arthritis and Pain, Anti-infective and Antiviral, CNS, and Women's health areas.

The short course is open to KS/Western MO chapter members, ASA members, students and other non-members. Registration for both the short course and the Symposium will remain open through Friday, March 27. Pricing and online registration are available on the ASA web site at https://www. amstat. org/education/learnstat/idad/index. cfm (https://www. amstat. org/education/learnstat/idad/index. cfm).

The Symposium, which takes place on April 2-3, is sponsored by the Cerner Corporation, the Kansas-Western Missouri Chapter of the ASA, and the Department of Biostatistics at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Complete information about the Symposium is available on the ASA web site at https://www. amstat. org/education/learnstat/idad/index. cfm (https://www. amstat. org/education/learnstat/idad/index. cfm).

Acomplia - The New Obesity Treatment

Acomplia - The New Obesity Treatment

The revolutionary weight-loss drug.

Grays, Essex (PRWEB) July 20, 2006

All of us need and have fat tissue in our bodies. However, when there is too much body fat, the result is obesity. Obesity is a complex multifactorial chronic disease that develops from an interaction of geno-type and the environment. Obesity develops because of social, behavioral, cultural, physiological, metabolic and genetic factors.

Obesity is a chronic disease with a strong familial component;

Obesity increases the risk of developing health related risks like high blood pressure, diabetes (type 2), heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease and cancer of the breast, prostate and colon.

Health insurance companies rarely pay for obesity treatment despite its serious effects on health.

The tendency toward obesity is often due to our environment: lack of physical activity combined with high-calorie, low-cost foods.

If maintained, even weight loss as small as 10 percent of body weight can improve one's health.

Aim for a healthy weight and fight obesity:-

If you are overweight or obese, carrying this extra weight puts you at risk for developing many diseases, especially heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer.

Losing this weight helps to prevent and control these diseases. You can shed weight safely and in a fast way with Prescription Diet Pills.

Now that a promising new prescription anti-obesity drug, rimonabant, is actually available in the United Kingdom, the launch of the most anticipated weight-loss medication since Fen-phen is generating a great deal of excitement among millions of obese and seriously overweight Americans and Europeans. The drug, which will be marketed in Europe as Acomplia, ultimately is expected to reach the United States market under the name Zimulti.

Whatever the trade name, rimonabant has been hailed by some doctors on the basis of clinical trials as a major breakthrough in treating obesity.

Sanofi's highly-anticipated diet pill Acomplia (rimonabant) was formally launched on June 28th in Britain with the announcement that the diet drug can be purchased by patients who obtain a prescription from a general practitoner.

Rxchemist is one of UKs leading online pharmacy retailers, having dispensed over 250,000 prescriptions from their facility capable of dealing with 1000 prescriptions daily.

It's Not True, Salt Is Good For You!

It's Not True, Salt Is Good For You!

When one thinks of salt, one thinks of the salt found in one's supermarket. However, the truth is that is not real salt.

IT'S NOT TRUE, SALT IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Hainsport, NJ, August 15, 2002 -- Most people in our day and age think that salt is bad for your health. However, in truth, salt is very healthy. Without the proper amount of salt in your body, muscles wonÂ’t contract, blood wonÂ’t circulate, food wonÂ’t digest, and the heart wonÂ’t beat. Without sufficient sodium, a personÂ’s senses would be dulled and their nerves would not function. Current scientific research reveals that there are actually very few salt-related health problems. A healthy, active lifestyle demands a sufficient salt intake. "The contention that our body can function on no salt at all or on a restricted ration of salt causes more problems than it solves," says Dr. Alan Storgest M. D.

Since salt is necessary for good health. Why is it viewed as something unhealthy and kept to a minimum in a "healthy" diet? The reason is that when most people think of salt, they think of the salt found in the local supermarket. This salt however has gone through such heavy processing to be turned into a white, pure, free-flowing substance, it losses all attributes of what salt actually is. "After the processing this salt contains only a resemblance of what true salt and a processed salt have in common. They taste very similar but a true whole salt has a delicate and richer flavor, " says Sholom Yaffa, co-founder of CelticSalt. com.

But isn't salt bad for your blood pressure? "Not true at all, " says Sholom Yaffa. "When discussing health benefits and ill effects of salt, it is important to realize that enough studies of different salts and their effects have not been conducted. An understanding of how whole salt works in the body leads us to believe that it will not cause high blood pressure. In fact, many of our customers using our whole salt product, (Celtic Sea Salt® - a special sea salt imported from the sea coast of France.) report that their high blood pressure goes down after they add this whole, unprocessed salt to their diet."

A study performed in Rotterdam, Netherlands, with 100 men and women between the ages of 55 and 75 with mild to moderate hyper tension showed that when common table salt (98%NaCl) was replaced with whole mineral salt naturally high in magnesium and potassium, a reduction in blood pressure equivalent to that obtained with blood pressure reducing drugs was achieved.

So, how is it possible to tell the difference between a processed salt and a true whole salt? "It is very hard, " says Sholom Yaffa. "Even a lot of special salts and sea salts which are found in the health food store are basically no different than the regular processed salt. All true whole salts though, have some common attributes. One; they are all light grey in color. Two; the salt is moist to the touch, and retains its moisture even after it is in cool storage for a long period of time. Three; all true whole salts are formed of very small, precise cubic crystals visible to your eyes. Without all three of those attributes, it is very likely that you are dealing with a salt which has gone through either a lot of heavy processing, or its minerals were removed, or most probably, both."

"Make sure that the salt you choose to use has all three of the above attributes," says Sholom Yaffa. " These three attributes are essential for a salt to be a whole salt. "

Florida Doctor Addresses Toxicity In Autism Spectrum Patients

Florida Doctor Addresses Toxicity In Autism Spectrum Patients

Dr. James Martin in Sarasota, Florida provides all-natural detoxification therapies to help remove environmental toxins from the body. The build-up of toxins, the body burden, is a factor in many chronic illnesses including migraines and chronic fatigue. In children and adults, detoxing improves outcomes of those with Autism Spectrum behavioral challenges.

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) April 21, 2005

As researchers address the alarming increase in cases of Autism Spectrum-related disorders, a key factor is emerging: Toxic overload is taxing our childrenÂ’s systems beyond their ability to function and maintain proper health. Clinical nutritionist and toxicology expert Dr. James H Martin, founder and clinical director of the Martin Clinic in Sarasota, Florida, has been clearing out toxins and working to restore a more healthy balance for these kids while the researchers keep looking for answers.

In just the last few weeks, researchers from around the globe have reported links between autism and a mutated cancer gene; autism and deficient antioxidant levels; autism and mirror neuron dysfunction; autism and mercury; and autism and vaccines. “While these researchers look to uncover and explain possible causes for specific symptoms, I see pieces of a puzzle coming together,” says Dr. Martin. “The vast majority of juvenile patients who arrive at the Clinic with histories of Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), and other autism spectrum issues will present with high levels of neurotoxins, like heavy metals and pesticides, along with gut problems from yeast overgrowth,” observes Martin, a Chiropractic physician with 29 years experience in treating patients with environmental health issues.

According to a 2004 report by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), exposure to toxic chemicals contributes to increases in such childhood diseases as asthma, leukemia, brain cancer, birth defects and learning, behavioral and developmental disabilities. “Today’s children are exposed to more toxins and are carrying around the greatest toxic overload mankind has ever experienced and the burden is compromising their systems in ways doctors, scientists and other researchers never anticipated,” Dr. Martin explains.

While the exact causative action – which toxin or group of toxins leads to which disorder or syndrome – has not yet been identified, Martin says removing these toxins is an obvious and important first step. “People, especially parents of children with spectrum behavioral issues, need to know that there’s help out there. We can now evaluate the toxic load being carried by an individual and we have therapies to remove the offending toxins. Best of all, the testing and the treatments are generally non-invasive and pain-free,” explained Martin.

In spite of the fact that much of the current testing offered is not presently covered by insurance, recent years have seen an increase in the variety and availability of toxicity screenings. Testing requirements differ but generally look to samples of hair, blood, urine, saliva and stool for evaluation. The Martin Clinic offers NutraScan Bio-Resonance testing which examines urine and saliva for over 550 known toxicants, including chemicals and heavy metals, pesticides, dyes, parasites, bacteria, molds, viruses and fungi.

“The human body is an awe inspiring machine with tremendous innate intelligence. It wants to be healthy, that’s its natural state,” says Dr. Martin. “Using natural supplements, we can rid the body of toxins, meet the body’s nutritional needs and help these kids achieve optimal health and wellness.”

The Martin Clinic in Sarasota, Florida offers a wide range of services encompassing nutritional, chiropractic and naturopathic modalities. The goal of the Clinic is to provide individualized assistance in eliminating barriers that prevent or impair the bodyÂ’s ability to achieve optimal health and well-being.

The Lavidge Company Joins Inc. Magazine’s Exclusive List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies—the Inc. 5000

The Lavidge Company Joins Inc. Magazine’s Exclusive List of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies—the Inc. 5000

Phoenix advertising agency The Lavidge Company makes the grade by placing on the Inc. Magazine's fourth annual exclusive list of America's fastest growing private companies - the Inc. 5000. The agency has worked with local and national companies like Phiten, Massage Envy, LifeLock and the NBA.

Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) August 25, 2010

Inc. magazine today listed The Lavidge Company, a Phoenix advertising agency, #3960 on its fourth annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies. The list represents the most comprehensive look at the most important segment of the economy—America’s independent-minded entrepreneurs. Music website Pandora, convenience store chain 7-Eleven, Brooklyn Brewery, and Radio Flyer, maker of the iconic children’s red wagon, are among the prominent brands featured on this year’s list.

“The leaders of the companies on this year’s Inc. 5000 have figured out how to grow their businesses during the longest recession since the Great Depression,” said Inc. president Bob LaPointe. “The 2010 Inc. 5000 showcases a particularly hardy group of entrepreneurs.”

The Lavidge Company (TLC) is a full-service Phoenix advertising agency, offering a service menu that includes advertising, public relations, marketing communications, consulting and interactive marketing. Founded in 1982, TLC works with local businesses, sports franchises and national brands. From Phoenix International Raceway to McDonalds to Massage Envy to Phiten USA to LifeLock, the Phoenix advertising agency has helped companies increase sales, raise brand awareness and grow their businesses.

“We are extremely proud to be listed among such distinguished companies nationwide,” stated CEO Bill Lavidge. “We are thankful for all the clients, past and present that helped us get here. We couldn’t have done it without them.”

Methodology
The 2010 Inc. 500|5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2006 to 2009. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by June 30, 2006. Additionally, they had to be based in the United States, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2009. Mannatech, Inc. Launches GlycoScience. com: The Nutrition Science Site

(PRWEB) April 29, 2000

For Immediate Release

(COPPELL, TX) - Mannatech, Inc., a dietary supplement company, announces the official launch of GlycoScience. com: the nutrition science site, designed to provide U. S. consumers, physicians and researchers easy access to a wide variety of scientific information currently available on the nutritional effects of dietary supplement ingredients.

Mannatech, Inc. believes it is the first nutraceutical company to bring together scientific nutritional information of this scope in an easily searchable database designed to save time and encourage additional research. The site features a wide range of issues relating to science, research, product safety, patents, and government regulation of dietary supplements. U. S. consumers who want to make informed personal health choices are now just a click away from the facts about glyconutritional products and glycoscience research.

"Global research on effects of nutritional supplementation, and specifically on effects of supplementation with certain necessary carbohydrates has escalated to the point where more than 20,000 scientific papers were published in 1998 on the subject," comments Dr. Bill McAnalley, Executive Vice President and Chief Science Officer for Mannatech. "Until now, the only people reading these studies were other researchers. Now, Mannatech has made much of this material available on the GlycoScience site."

U. S. health professionals will be able to conveniently learn about the safety and functionality of dietary supplementation for their patients, including supplementation with MannatechÂ’s flagship glyconutrient product. Research scientists will value this site as a single portal for accessing much of the published research concerning the role of nutritional saccharides in health, as well as providing coverage of related health and nutrition issues. This growing body of knowledge comes from all over the world and spans many scientific disciplines. It will be updated routinely to reflect the latest findings.

A number of distinguished scientists serve on the GlycoScience. com editorial board and contribute to the site. They are: Tom Gardiner, PhD, a retired Pharmacology/Toxicology and former regulatory toxicologist for Shell Oil. James C. Garriott, PhD, D-ABFT, Professor (Clinical Adjunct Faculty) University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio, former recipient of the Alexander O. Hot New Trend In Massage - Instant Relaxation at Your Door

Hot New Trend In Massage - Instant Relaxation at Your Door

Imagine a world where you can call an 800 number and have a certified massage therapist at your door within a few hours - similar to ordering a pizza, only a lot more relaxing and a lot healthier. Sound good? Well that world is now here.

(PRWEB) April 12, 2005

Feeling stressed? Well then imagine a world where you can just pick up the phone, call an 800 number, and get instant relaxation - a soothing, professional massage that would calm those cramped muscles caused from being stuck in traffic or sitting at a computer all day. No waiting. No planning. Just one phone call and a certified massage therapist would show up at your door within a few hours – kind of like ordering a pizza, only a lot more relaxing and a lot healthier. Sound good? Well that world is now here.

Geared toward people on the go, Go Massage is the place to call when you just canÂ’t wait to relax. Whether it's your home, hotel room, or office, they can deliver you the best massage therapists in your area - on the same day you call. But more than just immediate gratification, the company aims to revolutionize the rubdown by making relaxation more convenient and affordable for everyone - not just for those who go to fancy spas and seedy parlors.

They're also putting a whole new twist on the M word by giving it a face-lift. Sure they have traditional Swedish massage, but they also have Rock Your World, the Honeymooner, the Bomb, and many other tasty massage flavors to choose from.

Go Massage is just the latest trend in the massage boom. To quote one of their therapists, "Massage is no longer a luxury. It's a necessity." It crosses all demographics from business executives to students to athletic types to movie stars to kids. And while it used to be the kind of thing someone got once in a blue moon, it is now considered an added perk for film sets, rock bands, and corporate offices. Hard facts support this claim. Since 1997, the number of adult Americans who went to a massage therapist in the previous year has jumped from 8% to 21%, and for the first time, spa receipts surpassed those of amusement parks and topped U. S. box office grosses.

Massage also follows medication as the most sought-after form of pain relief: 33% for medication followed by 14% for massage therapy, and among alternative medicine practices surveyed, medical practitioners ranked massage therapy highest (74%) in terms of being effective. Soon enough, consumers will treat getting a massage just as they treat getting a haircut or working out at the gym.

With its popularity on the rise, the convenience, affordability, and style of Go Massage comes at an ideal time. So get ready to heal, California. Go Massage has got your back.

Fox Chase Cancer Center has been selected to receive a Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation 2007 Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship Awards. Each award consists of two consecutive, $35,000 one-year fellowships. The fellowships are designed to prepare highly motivated, talented and compassionate physicians for careers devoted to serving the specialized needs of breast cancer patients. Fox Chase s Monica Morrow, M. D., chairman of surgery, is the grant leader. The award is designated for a future Fox Chase fellow to mentor and provide advance medical training.

The Komen Foundation established its Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship program in 1998. Collaborations with the American Society of Breast Diseases, the American Society of Breast Surgeons and the Society of Surgical Oncology resulted in a comprehensive and highly integrated curriculum that allows each fellow to spend substantial time in key areas that impact breast cancer patients.

As part of the program, the fellow is required to do medical rotations in breast imaging, breast surgery, community service and outreach, genetics, medical oncology, pathology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, psycho-oncology, radiation oncology and research.

"Physicians who participate in Komen's Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship program gain enhanced clinical skills, a deeper and more practical understanding of medical teamwork and they are able to offer a better, more compassionate treatment environment for their patients," said Rebecca Garcia, PhD, vice president, health sciences for the Komen Foundation.

In addition to Fox Chase, three other institutions received Komen Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship awards for 2007 through 2009: Baylor College of Medicine, Houston; University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW), Dallas; and Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, Conn. The grant period for the fellowship begins in July 2007 and runs through June 30, 2009. The four institutions receiving the fellowships will now begin recruiting qualified candidates for the interdisciplinary training program.

In 1974, Fox Chase became one of the first institutions designated as a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. NASFT Goes Crackers For Mary's Gone Crackers

NASFT Goes Crackers For Mary's Gone Crackers

Mary's Gone Crackers has been chosen as a finalist in the Outstanding Cookie/Cracker category by The National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT).

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 2, 2006

The National Association for the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT) has announced the 89 Finalists for the prestigious NASFT 2006 Product Awards Competition and Mary’s Gone Crackers has been chosen as a finalist in the Outstanding Cookie/Cracker category. The winner will be announced at the Summer Fancy Food Show in July at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York.

Mary’s Gone Crackers was founded by Mary Waldner and her husband Dale Rodrigues in 2000, but the real story goes back much farther than that. In 1994 Mary, an established psychotherapist in Northern California, discovered after a lengthy search, that her lifelong battle with digestive pain and fatigue was actually caused by an intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and even most oats. Mary also discovered that she was not the only one that suffered from this inability to digest gluten, commonly referred to as Celiac Disease. In fact 1 out of 133 people suffer from Celiac Disease and 90-95% are not properly diagnosed.

In a quest to find something she could eat, Mary discovered that many of the gluten-free foods on the market back then not only lacked in taste, but also were often full of hydrogenated fats or other chemical additives. Looking for healthful alternatives, she began to experiment with her own recipes for the foods she most missed. She found success in creating tasty, healthful and gluten-free versions of cookies, brownies, muffins, pancakes, and other typically wheat based foods. However, going outside the confines of her kitchen proved to be extremely frustrating. All of the breads and crackers at restaurants and parties were off limits to her. Mary’s feeling of deprivation in social situations inspired her to develop her unique cracker recipe. She combined brown rice, quinoa, flax seeds and sesame seeds into a healthful, crunchy and satisfying cracker. Mary would bake small batches of the crackers by hand and take them with her.

As friends began eating her gluten-free crackers instead of the usual bread and chips that were out there (and then ask for more!) she knew she was onto something. By the time Mary's Gone Crackers was born, she had hand made well over 30,000 crackers.

In less than two years in the marketplace, Mary’s Gone Crackers has achieved nationwide distribution in over 3000 stores such as Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Wegman’s, and Raley’s, as well as many independent health food and specialty food stores.

"We are so excited and honored to be nominated for this award, especially since we are such a new company,” states Mary Waldner, CEO of Mary’s Gone Crackers. “We are thrilled at the response to Mary’s Gone Crackers and this recognition is very validating for our entire, hard working team," Mary adds.

About Mary’s Gone Crackers

Founded by Mary Waldner and her husband Dale Rodrigues in 2000, Mary’s began production and distribution of their gourmet crackers in August of 2004. Mary’s Gone Crackers will be moving into a state of the art, 50,000 square foot production facility located in Gridley, CA by the end of Spring 2006. The new facility is the first 100% dedicated wheat-free gluten-free and Certified Organic plant in the country. The crackers come in 5 flavors: Original, Caraway, Black Pepper, Onion and Herb. For distribution or sales information, please contact 925-258-1200. For all publicity inquires, contact Darren Jordan at 323.230.7379.

New Psychiatrist Joins the Gatehouse Academy Team

New Psychiatrist Joins the Gatehouse Academy Team

Psychiatrist Daniela Reid will be joining the team at Gatehouse Academy, a co-educational long term drug rehab program and addiction treatment center for young adults and teens.

Wickenburg, AZ (PRWEB) October 22, 2010

Gatehouse Academy is pleased to announce that Daniela Reid will be joining the staff this October. She will assume the position of Psychiatrist at the main campus of this respected long-term drug rehabilitation treatment center for young adults. Dr. Reid will be serving residents from all of the residential campuses.

Dr. Reid comes to Gatehouse Academy with plenty of relevant experience. She was most previously employed with St. Luke’s Behavioral Health Center, where she held the position of general psychiatrist. Dr. Reid has always been a staunch believer in the spirit’s ability to change and humans’ right to make choices. The ever growing pressures to make rapid diagnoses and write even faster prescriptions frequently defy these lofty but rather basic rules for healing. It is in this spirit that she now joins the experienced staff at Gatehouse Academy.

The rest of the staff at Gatehouse Academy believes Dr. Reid will be a valuable addition to their team and are wishing her a successful career at the campus.

To learn more about Gatehouse Academy’s program and dedicated staff, visit http://www. gatehouseacademy. com.

About Gatehouse Academy:
Gatehouse Academy is a co-educational long term drug rehab program and addiction treatment center exclusively for young adults age 17 to 25 with chemical dependency and dual diagnosis disorders. Residents are taught responsibility, accountability, life skills, social skills and work ethic, while receiving an equal blend of therapeutic and clinical services.

The academy offers an integrated departmental approach throughout all of its campuses and locations. Each department is unique and readily contributes to the overall goal of recovery for each individual young adult. Everything from the physical set-up of the campus to the interactions of the staff is part of this integrated approach, creating a seamless offering of departments united under the goal of each resident’s recovery.

The Gatehouse Academy’s staff members have life experience in recovery and take a role as “life coaches,” actively mentoring residents. The residents are put in leadership positions, and have to leave where they live for therapy or school and go into town to attend meetings and interact with others.

Providing Healthcare 24/7: Healthcare Organizations Enable Consumer Convenience

Providing Healthcare 24/7: Healthcare Organizations Enable Consumer Convenience

Manasquan, NJ (PRWEB) August 16, 2005

Americans have long favored a culture of convenience. Consumers may not seek healthcare information and advice at the time it’s needed, further exacerbating their conditions. But with the advent of the Internet, healthcare organizations finally have a forum to give consumers what they want – convenient healthcare – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Capitalizing on infinite technological immediacy, organizations are incorporating Internet resources and telephonic coaching in their health plans to serve consumers without the wait. “Providing Healthcare 24/7: How Consumer-Driven Health Plans and Population Health Management are Meeting the Needs of Healthcare Consumerism,” a September 21, 2005 audio conference sponsored by the Healthcare Intelligence Network (HIN) discusses interactive tools and resources organizations can use to make consumers more informed participants in healthcare decisions. During this 90-minute audio conference, expert speakers explain how telephonic and web-based applications can facilitate health consciousness.

The audio conference is scheduled for 1:30 p. m. to 3:00 p. m. Eastern time on September 21, 2005. For more details on attending the audio conference, please visit http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? h247ac (http://www. hin. com/cgi-local/link/news/pl. cgi? h247ac).

“Aligning web technology with clinical and telephonic resources is a step forward for healthcare,” said Melanie Matthews, the executive vice president and chief operating officer of HIN. “It provides consumers with readily available tools and information they need to make better choices regarding their health,” she added.

During this 90-minute audio conference, expert panelists Hugh Lytle, president, Axia Health Management and Darren Schulte, director, clinical affairs and analytics, Resolution Health, Inc., offer step-by-step insight into how organizations can maximize these tools to most effectively serve the needs of todayÂ’s healthcare consumer. They provide details on:

Integrating telephonic and web-based applications; Driving adoption of tools; Providing the right tools to the right consumers to control costs; and Engaging consumers through consumer-driven healthcare plans.

This audio conference is scheduled for 1:30 p. m. to 3:00 p. m. Eastern time on September 21, 2005. It will conclude with a live question-and-answer period during which participants can benefit from direct interaction with the experts.
