WILDFLOWER WALK 2002 GETS SUPPORT FROM VIRTUAL WALKERS

WILDFLOWER WALK 2002 GETS SUPPORT FROM VIRTUAL WALKERS

Now Virtually Anyone Can Support The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower CenterÂ’s Wildflower Walk Using The Internet

(PRWEB) March 24, 2002

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center today announced the ability for environmental enthusiasts around the globe to register online and participate in Wildflower Walk 2002 as ‘virtual walkers.’ Wildflower Walk 2002 raises vital funds for the conservation, education, preservation and restoration programs at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

“The ability to accept Virtual Walkers is an incredibly 21st Century way to solicit donations. We’ve already received online registration for virtual walkers from California, Louisiana, and Colorado,” said Sean Hazuda, Corporate Development Officer at the Wildflower Center. “It’s the perfect way for busy people, or those who don’t live in Texas to participate in an interactive, Internet-savvy way and be able to make an important contribution to help protect the environment.”

Through programs such as Landscape Restoration, the Wildflower Center encourages partnerships and community interaction for restoring and renewing damaged, degraded, or even destroyed ecological systems throughout Texas and the United States.

“I think people are surprised when they learn that some twenty-nine percent of North America’s native plants are at risk of extinction. The funds raised through this Walk will help the Center in its work to help protect and preserve America’s native landscapes,” said Hazuda.

Virtual walkers can register online at www. wildflowerwalk. org as individuals or teams. Once registered, they are given special access to the site’s “Participant Center” where they post and track their fund raising goals, create and manage email campaigns to request online donations, and record offline donations. The Participant Center technology even allows virtual walkers to create an address book and send emails for soliciting funds from family, friends and colleagues. This online participant concept is a unique way of driving charitable contributions to help protect the environment and promote healthy ecological systems across the country.

About the Wildflower Walk 2002

The Wildflower Walk 2002 will be held Saturday, April 20th in the Circle C Metropolitan Park. More than 6,000 people are expected to attend the first-ever family fun walk, which will take walkers of all ages on a beautiful three-mile route to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Virtual walkers are eligible to receive the same prizes for achieving different fundraising levels as walkers at the actual event. Virtual walkers turn in the money they raise on or before April 20 and walk their own 5K wherever they are. The walk Web site www. wildflowerwalk. org enables walkers to do all of their walk activities online.

New Risk Analysis Software Helps Insurance Companies Protect the Environment

New Risk Analysis Software Helps Insurance Companies Protect the Environment

A new Internet based software solution enables insurance companies to save money, time and reduce environmental damage caused by home oil tank spills. Tank Track is a unique risk-based software tool created to help highlight potentially weak, improperly installed, or near failing home oil tanks before they fail.

(PRWEB) August 27, 2004

Statistics have shown that for every 1000 oil storage systems regardless of age, over 80 have installation flaws and upwards of 10 are at the initial stages of failure (most rejected units are under 10 years of age). Because Tank Track analyzes specific home oil tank installation and environment details, tanks that are at risk for early failure are identified, allowing them to be removed from service.

Tank Track is the only risk analysis solution for home oil tanks on the market today. Officially launched early in 2004 Tank Track has repeatedly proven itself to save insurance companies hundreds of thousands of dollars. By identifying high risk tanks before they fail Tank Track helps protect the environment at the same time.

Based on BasebridgeÂ’s Anywhere Anytime technology Insurance field inspectors, consultants and managers across the country can have secure access to centralized data, reports and the current status for any item being tracked by the system. All without the need to install or support complicated enterprise network software.

New Book Reveals How Unprecedented Bank Deregulation Helped Ignite Credit Crisis

New Book Reveals How Unprecedented Bank Deregulation Helped Ignite Credit Crisis

Author Barry J. Dyke, in the new book, The Pirates of Manhattan reveals how unprecedented bank deregulation helped ignite the current credit crisis www. ThePiratesofManhattan. com.

Intervale, NH (PRWEB) August 20, 2008

Portsmouth, NH (PRWEB) August 20, 2008. Author Barry J. Dyke, in the new book, The Pirates of Manhattan reveals how unprecedented bank deregulation helped ignite the current credit crisis www. ThePiratesofManhattan. com. For thirty years, bank deregulation was rigorously lobbied for by bankers and Wall Street and it rewarded them with Olympian paydays. Yet bank deregulation has brought imploding hedge funds, blatant conflicts of interest, Enron, WorldCom, a dot. com meltdown, mutual fund scandals, regressive bankruptcy laws, over-leverage, over-speculation, legalized usury, millions of foreclosures, plummeting real estate values, a weakened dollar, an auction-rate securities mess and a world-wide credit crisis.

Bank deregulation left gaping holes in consumer protection yet no new rules were put in place to insulate consumers from deregulation downsides. Deregulation revealed that banks are not only inept managers of economic risk--but consistently rely on predatory lending for a majority of their profits. Yet banks inevitably get into trouble and continually rely on Congress and the U. S. taxpayer to bail them out. Some bailouts include; the Mexican and Argentine debt crisis, the Savings and Loan collapse, Bear Stearns implosion and the Federal Reserve's opening of the discount window for investment banks to keep them solvent.

A watershed event in bank deregulation occurred in 1978 when the U. S. Supreme Court ruled in Marquette National Bank vs. First Omaha Corporation. That decision ruled that a bank could export the rate of interest from the originating state to other states. In 1979, with the Marquette decision in hand, South Dakota became the first state in the country to repeal its usury (excessive-interest) rate laws. In 1981, Citibank set up its credit card business in South Dakota and began to charge 20 percent interest on credit cards where it had been hitherto limited to charge 12 percent in New York. Since Marquette, high interest rate credit cards have become a vital and main source of profits for Citigroup, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, American Express and Capital One--when banks borrowed from the Federal Reserve at forty year lows.

The Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act of 1980 removed restrictions on banks competing for deposits. Recklessly, banks invested billions of deposits into high-priced, risky oil & gas exploration deals. Penn Square, Continental Illinois, Chase Manhattan Bank, Michigan National Bank, Seattle First National Bank and Northern Trust invested enormous amounts in these ventures--as well as billions from hundreds of smaller banks, savings & loans and credit unions. Deregulated but far from enlightened, Penn Square and Continental Illinois collapsed. Another 2900 banks failed or were merged out of existence. A $4 billion 1984 bailout of Continental was the largest bank bailout until the recent June 2008 collapse of California's IndyMacBank.

Continental Illinois, like today's Citigroup, was once a darling of the market, a favorite of analysts and its common stock sold at a premium over other money center banks. Citigroup has not collapsed, yet it has lost 60% of its value since 2005 in its pursuit of a deregulated universal bank model. Yet in the past decade, Citigroup has been at the forefront of virtually every banking and securities scandal in America.

The Pirates of Manhattan reveals another major banking secret--banks invest billions of their reserves--into high-cash value life insurance--not into mutual funds, hedge funds or half-baked stock deals which they are retailing to their customers. With laser accuracy, the author documents that major banks such as Wachovia, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Citibank, Bank of New York-Mellon and thousands more have invested more than $120 billion of their money into high cash value life insurance for their Tier One Capital--a bank's most important asset.

Over twenty-five years, the author, Barry J. Dyke, has acquired extensive knowledge and expertise to write such a book. He has practiced financial planning, founded a pension consulting business, a third party administration company, a health & welfare practice and a registered investment advisory firm www. castleassetmgmt. com. A major point in the book is that due to bank deregulation, life insurance is one of the safest warehouses for people's capital in America. A vast video library www. thepiratesofmanhattan. com/videos. htm (http://www. thepiratesofmanhattan. com/videos. htm) supports research in the book.

The book is taking a novel approach selling directly off the internet to wealth advisors and consumers. The book has sold in all 50 states, England, Europe, Canada, Australia and Singapore. As of August 2008, the book is a best-seller.

Torrance, CA (PRWEB) November 25, 2009

Torrance, Calif. -- As the official holiday shopping season kicks off the day after Thanksgiving, Torrance Home Instead Senior Care urgently needs volunteers to staff a huge holiday tree at the Del Amo Mall in Torrance during mall hours. The tree is filled with paper ornaments listing gift requests from seniors served by the Salvation Army Sage House and Adult Day Care Center, South Bay Senior Services, Beach Cities Health District, Palos Verdes Health Care Center and Inglewood Senior Center.
Volunteers are needed to collect unwrapped gifts donated by shoppers and answer questions about the Be a Santa to a Senior Program, which gives needy seniors gifts and companionship during the holiday season.
“This is a great way to give back to the community and help us remember seniors, who are often forgotten at holiday time,” said Denise de Cock, RN, owner of the Home Instead Senior Care office serving Torrance, Palos Verdes and Marina del Rey. “We’re working with over 20 community organizations and local businesses who are supporting the program by offering tree locations, supplies, and volunteers. It’s a true community effort that’s worth supporting.”

The Be a Santa to a Senior community service program, which runs from Nov. 1 through Dec. 22 in the South Bay, is organized to ensure that seniors get the items they need and want. Before the holiday season, participating local non-profit organizations identify needy and isolated seniors in the community and provide those names to Torrance Home Instead Senior Care. Christmas trees, which went up in eight locations in the South Bay including the Del Amo Mall, will feature ornaments with the first names only of the seniors and their respective gift requests.

Holiday shoppers can pick up an ornament, buy items on the list and return them unwrapped to the store, along with the ornament attached. Torrance Home Instead Senior Care then enlists the volunteer help of its staff, senior-care business associates, non-profit workers and others to collect, wrap and distribute the gifts. A citywide gift-wrapping day, when hundreds of presents will be wrapped, will be held on December 17, 3:30 p. m. at the Salvation Army of Torrance Adult Day Care Center, 4223 Emerald St.

Torrance Home Instead Senior Care is currently looking for volunteers to staff the Del Amo Mall tree at these times:
 Friday Nov. 27: 1 – 5 p. m.  Saturday Nov. 28: 5 – 10 p. m.  Monday Nov. 30: 4 – 6 p. m.  Thursday Dec. 3: 1 – 4 p. m.    Friday Dec. 4: 4 – 9 p. m. Those who want to volunteer may contact Farrah Benedict or Teresa McNeil at 310-542-0563 between the hours of 8 a. m. and 5 p. m. Mon-Fri.

Businesses that have donated to this year’s program include Jamison Services Inc., Office Depot/Harborgate Way, Torrance; Kelly Paper and Xpedex Paper, Gardena; Minuteman Press, Torrance; and Goodwill Shredding, Long Beach.

This is the sixth year that Be a Santa to a Senior has made a difference in the lives of seniors. Last year, more than 28,000 volunteers nationwide distributed gifts to deserving seniors. Since introducing the Be a Santa to a Senior program, the corporate office of Home Instead Senior Care and its network of more than 800 franchises in the United
States and 11 other countries have helped provide more than one million gifts to 700,000 seniors.

Businesses are encouraged to contact Torrance Home Instead Senior Care at 310-542-0563 about adopting groups of seniors. Big Fat Lies Vindicated - Recent JAMA Study Downplaying Impact of Overweight and Obesity on Longevity Supports What "Big Fat Lies" Author Has Been Saying for Years

Big Fat Lies Vindicated - Recent JAMA Study Downplaying Impact of Overweight and Obesity on Longevity Supports What "Big Fat Lies" Author Has Been Saying for Years

The latest research on body weight and health, published in JAMA, suggests that thinness poses a greater health risk and being overweight—just what "Big Fat Lies" author Glenn Gaesser has been saying for years. The risks of thinness—and attempts to get thin—have been largely ignored, whereas the risks of being overweight or obese have been greatly overstated. Data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys, published in the April 20, 2005 issue of JAMA, show that, in terms of longevity, "overweight" is actually the "ideal" weight. Tune in to the on-line/on-demand 24/7 "Size Matters, Too" Radio Show the week of April 24th and May 1, 2005 as the Velvet Voice of Size Diversity, Veronica Cook-Euell, interviews Glenn Gaesser to reveal the truth about the lies.

(PRWEB) April 22, 2005

University of Virginia exercise physiologist Glenn Gaesser, Ph. D., challenges conventional wisdom on body weight and health, uncovering substantial scientific evidence to show that when it comes to fat, both the American public and the national scientific community have been working under false assumptions and self-perpetuating myths. What a blow to conventional wisdom and current medical dogma, to say nothing of the negative impact this might have on the unscrupulous multibillion-dollar-per-year weight loss industry. Our culture may worship thinness, but there certainly is no medical justification to do so.

"Americans have been deceived by those with a stake in the $30-plus billion-per-year weight-loss industry," says Gaesser. "The health risks of being overweight as well as the health benefits of weight loss have been exaggerated."

Obesity is commonly cited as the cause of numerous life-threatening diseases and disorders, including diabetes, heart disease and clogged arteries. According to Gaesser, these assertions, along with the frequently cited "phantom statistic" of 300,000 premature deaths per year caused by excessive weight, are not substantiated.

Not only is there insufficient evidence for the connection, says Gaesser, but also many studies have suggested just the opposite. For example, a large-scale 1998 study sponsored by the National Institutes of Health showed that among African Americans, the optimal body-mass-index (BMI) for longevity appears to be in the overweight range. Even among whites the data did not support the widely held belief that thin men and women live longest. Among older Americans, thinness is a more serious health problem than packing extra pounds.

While Gaesser may be bucking a trend in challenging the popular notions about body fat, many health professionals are beginning share his caveat: it may be OK to be fat if you are also fit. "Fat men and women who are physically fit and exercise regularly outlive thin men and women who are unfit and sedentary, and studies repeatedly show that it is easier to get a fat person fit than it is to get a fat person thin," he asserts.

Perhaps the most harmful aspect of the misinformation Gaesser sees perpetuated in popular press and advertising is the increase in unhealthy fad dieting. He is particularly concerned by the extreme strategies of regimes like those that profess to burn fat quickly, which has been shown by many opponents to have negative long-term health impact. "Chronic efforts at weight loss may be responsible for more deaths than 'excess weight' itself," he says.

With an abundance of new research to bolster his challenges, Gaesser hopes to reach the millions of Americans who may have heard the buzz about his work but who have not yet heard him in person or read his ground-breaking book, "Big Fat Lies: The Truth About Your Weight and Your Health" (Gurze, 2002).

Listen in to the dynamic interview with Glenn Gaesser on the "Size Matters, Too" radio show www. sizematterstoo. com regarding this compelling topic with your host, the Velvet Voice of Size Diversity, Veronica Cook-Euell 24/7 the week of April 24th and the week of May 1, 2005. This show is made possible by WCRS Radio, Akron, Ohio.

Bonus-- Paul Campos also weighs in: A major new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association confirms the contrarian thesis put forth in University of Colorado professor Paul Campos' book "The Diet Myth: Why America's Obsession with Weight is Hazardous to Your Health" (Gotham/PenguinUSA).

The data from the new study underlines the central contention of Professor Campos' book: that the so-called "overweight" category, which contains most Americans who the government claims weigh "too much," is scientifically baseless and socially destructive, and should be abandoned immediately. "Given that Americans are enjoying longer lives and better health than ever before, the claim that four out of five of us are running serious health risks because of our weight sounds exactly like the sort of exaggeration that can produce a cultural epidemic of fear," Campos argues. (read the entire article attached "New JAMA Study Confirms CU Law Prof's Controversial Thesis."

As part of the special bonus, you will also be able to tune in to an interview with Paul Campos during the week of April 24, 2005. Free of Charge on the Size Matters, Too radio show with your host, the Velvet Voice of Size Diversity, Veronica Cook-Euell at sizematterstoo. com. "Size Matters, Too" focuses on body size acceptance, body image as well as many issues relating to empowering women of size. "We help people love themselves and the bodies they're in; and we help employers embrace the size diversity in their employees."

HeartMath Offers New Resources and Web-based Tools to Help People Stay Resilient through Tough Times

HeartMath Offers New Resources and Web-based Tools to Help People Stay Resilient through Tough Times

HeartMath®, internationally recognized for their scientifically validated approach to stress and anxiety, is offering a number of resources to help people find a little more ease through these tough times - from free monthly webinars and educational downloads, to new web applications designed to help people better manage stress and their convenient and widely popular mobile emWave® technology.

Boulder Creek, CA (PRWEB) August 13, 2008

Stress experts say today's news is enough to spike anyone's anxiety level. With the ongoing reports of natural disasters in the U. S. and abroad, the increase in the number of mass layoffs, home foreclosures, bank failures and the talk of whether the U. S. is in or headed towards a recession is putting an emotional strain on people's psyche. HeartMath®, internationally recognized for their scientifically validated approach to stress and anxiety, is offering a number of resources to help people find a little more ease through these tough times - from free monthly webinars and educational downloads, to new web applications designed to help people better manage stress and their convenient and widely popular mobile emWave® technolog (http://www. emwave. com/) y.

"This year has been exceptionally stressful for people," says psychologist Deborah Rozman, Ph. D., co-author of Transforming Anxiety: The HeartMath Solution for Overcoming Fear and Worry and Creating Serenity (http://www. heartmathstore. com/cgi-bin/category. cgi? item=1155&type=store). "Uncertainty is hitting closer to home with millions of people feeling that they're living on the economic edge. It's not just people's bank accounts that are being depleted, their mental, emotional and physical resources are being exhausted too. Whether it's the lack of certainty about our home, our health, our financial stability, or our personal safety, it starts to eat away at our basic sense of security and well-being."

When life gets more challenging, Dr. Rozman says: "We need to be on the lookout for 'overcare' - an emotional habit that people commonly resort to when things are feeling unstable. People can think that if they're not worrying or obsessing over a person, situation or outcome it must mean they're not caring enough. The need to worry or obsess is really just a mental and emotional habit. It is possible to find an inner peace and security during stressful circumstances. The stronger our foundation of inner security, the more resilient we are, the quicker we can recover from overcare and feelings of worry, stress and anxiety, and the less we'll drain our precious inner resources."

The term "overcare" was coined by Doc Childre, founder of the HeartMath system and co-author of numerous books, including Transforming Stress, Transforming Anxiety, Transforming Anger, and Transforming Depression. Doc describes overcare as that which happens when the mind and emotions cross the line of balanced care into over-attachment and over-identity and get bogged down with whomever or whatever you're caring about.

Wendy Warner, MD, Founder and Medical Director of Medicine in Balance, LLC (http://www. medicineinbalance. com/) and President of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, says: "Overcare is often disguised as angst, worry, concern, sympathy, or even sentiment, and can lead to stress-related health issues such as headaches, backaches, high blood pressure, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances. Although both men and women can experience overcare and related physical complaints, our society tends to 'train' and expect women to be caregivers, so they tend to be more prone to overcaring about people or situations."

Examples of overcare:
Feeling anxious about finances, when your son asks if he can get a new guitar you're quick to lose your temper.  The memory of a scary childhood experience triggers fear - and worry-based projections when your spouse suggests getting a dog for the family. You immediately rattle off a list of all the bad things that could happen and adamantly refuse to consider it.  What began as sympathetic thoughts about those affected by a natural disaster turns into relentless musing and fear-driven projections of what could happen in your area.  You gas up your car and feel concerned about the cost of commuting to work. Your concern turns into negative musing, grumbling about how everything costs more these days and blame toward your spouse for insisting on buying an SUV.

In examples above, the original caring intention is compromised and instead becomes emotionally draining and often creates a negative effect because we overreact, make a hasty decision, project fear of a worst-case scenario, or blame and judge others.

It's not that we care too much, but more that we don't know how to manage our care, which in turn impacts our health, relationships, productivity and happiness, and leads to overwhelm, stress, anxiety and even depression.

Navigating through life:

Dr. Rozman says, "Using the HeartMath tools and techniques in conjunction with the emWave Personal Stress Reliever® (http://www. emwave. com/) has been immensely helpful for people. Much like a GPS helps you get from point A to point B, the emWave PSR helps you navigate through challenging situations. Giving you direction through its real-time feedback, it teaches you how to quickly get back to a balanced mental and emotional state."

The tiny mobile device is a convenient and effective tool to help people build a buffer against stress and anxiety.

You can download an article and related video (http://www. heartmath. com/templates/ihm/press_room/pdf/articles/Overcare_Article. pdf) from HeartMath's website that will provide more information about how to help ease out the stress of overcare. The article gives examples of overcare, a personal evaluation and tools to help you shift out of overcare and back into a state of balanced care. The video features Dr. Wendy Warner sharing stories about patients experiencing overcare.

Click here for Melanie Matthew's profile.

"With many physician quality reporting initiatives still voluntary and new models of care under development, now is the ideal time for physicians to 'tune up' their practices --- making the process-oriented, technological and cultural adjustments necessary to support successful participation. As practices that have already done this will attest, patients come out the winners in this equation, benefiting from a more coordinated method of care delivery."

Raw Food Diet For Weight Loss Backfires

Raw Food Diet For Weight Loss Backfires

The Raw Food Diet For Weight Loss Is A New And Popular Fad, But If it is used incorrectly, it can backfire and make people fat.

Tualatin, OR (PRWEB) July 28, 2010

The raw food diet for weight loss can be a very effective method but for some people, it can cause them to store more fat as well as cause harmful nutritional deficiencies. A new book, Metabolism Makeover, shows people how to use a raw food diet to get rapid weight loss, increase health and avoid the pitfalls of the raw food diet for weight loss.

“The average person who is trying to lose weight will have an initial drop in weight if they go on a raw food diet but it will eventually plateau for most. For others, the raw foods they eat can cause them to get fatter and possibly cause deficiencies,” said author Yegyan. “A raw food diet for weight loss can be extremely effective, but you still need to know which raw foods work to increase health and cause fat loss. Also, you will still need to understand how to prevent nutritional deficiencies.”

In his book, Metabolism Makeover, author Yegyan shows that not all raw foods will cause weight loss. Some people will go on a raw food diet and eat the raw foods that contain the highest amount of sugar. In addition the lifestyle, body type and exercise will change how foods react with the body.

According to Yegyan, “Another factor people are not aware of are that certain glandular imbalances will cause the raw food diet for weight loss to fail right from the start. There are also vitamin deficiencies that can occur such as a vitamin B12 deficiency that can cause blindness, Alzheimer's and nervous system disorders.”

To get the best of what a raw food diet for weight loss has to offer without sacrificing health, a raw food diet is best used as a comprehensive weight loss program.

Yegyan outlines a specific method in his book, Metabolism Makeover. A raw food diet for weight loss is a part of the array of tools used to reset a person’s metabolism so it naturally stores less fat. The book shows what foods cause fat loss, who it will work for and how to adjust it.

Iridoids in Tahitian Noni® Bioactive Beverages™ are Found to be Extremely Stable

Iridoids in Tahitian Noni® Bioactive Beverages™ are Found to be Extremely Stable

While Flavonoids and Carotenoids in Superfruits Degrade Rapidly

Provo, UT (Vocus) March 3, 2010

Tahitian Noni International (http://www. tni. com/) (TNI) again set itself apart from the superfruit industry when they announced that the iridoids (http://research. tni. com/united_states/english/research/iridoids. html) in noni (http://research. tni. com/united_states/english/research/about_noni. html) are extremely stable, unlike the flavonoids and carotenoids–touted as beneficial by the major superfruits–that degrade rapidly.

Iridoids possess a simple chemical structure that makes them inherently strong in stressful environments. As a result, iridoids retain their chemical composition even when exposed to oxygen, light, and heat—activities that occur during processing and pasteurization that often degrade or break down weaker chemical compounds. The same chemical composition also means that iridoids remain stable over long periods of storage. This stability explains why noni iridoids retain virtually full potency from tree to the bottle and have a guaranteed shelf life of at least two years.

Flavonoids and carotenoids are most bioavailable when eaten fresh. After just four months of storage at room temperature, the flavonoids in açaí pulp lose up to 80% of their stability. Rapid flavonoid degradation in açaí and mangosteen juices explains why there is no significant research to substantiate açaí-based and mangosteen-based product claims.

“What makes noni really unique is its phytochemical makeup,” says Jeff Wasden, TNI’s new vice president of Global Marketing. “The most celebrated nutrients in food plants are flavonoids and carotenoids. These nutrients have great potential when eaten fresh, but when they undergo processing and pasteurization, they degrade rapidly and fail to deliver their promised benefits.”

Wasden says noni is much different. “The 12 different iridoids in noni retain their potency after processing because the iridoid bonds don’t crack under pressure. They stand up to extremes. That means that, unlike our superfruit competitors, you’re getting all the promised health benefits of the noni fruit when you drink Tahitian Noni Bioactive Beverages.”

Tahitian Noni Bioactive Beverages (http://research. tni. com/united_states/english/research/bioactives. html) are supported by 14 human clinical (http://research. tni. com/united_states/english/research/index. html) studies proving thier efficacy.

About the Company
Tahitian Noni International is a global, research-driven bioactive products company that was the first to introduce the health benefits of the noni plant—a bioactive-rich, adaptogenic plant, containing iridoid compounds—to the world outside of Tahiti. Tahitian Noni International is the leader in the discovery, development, manufacturing, and marketing of noni-based bioactive products. Headquartered in Provo, Utah, Tahitian Noni International has a presence in over 70 markets around the world, and is the worldwide leader in bioactive beverages.

Great Jones Spa Announces the Great Jones River Rock Facial Treatment

Great Jones Spa Announces the Great Jones River Rock Facial Treatment.

Luxury holistic spa services create beauty and restore the optimal health naturally.

(PRWEB) February 18, 2005

The premiere Manhattan destination for those seeking total beauty through inner harmony and balance, Great Jones Spa today announced its new Great Jones River Rock Facial treatment.

“The River Rock facial is the perfect addition to our growing list of alternative treatments,” say Great Jones Spa’s director and general manager, Donna Creagh. “Alternating hot and cold stone massage does more than just relax; it helps cells repair themselves and gives you a healthy glow without the use of chemicals.”

This deluxe treatment includes your choice of Jurlique, Naturopathica, or Spa Technologies products and improves upon a traditional facial by incorporating massage with heated basalt and cool marble stones. After cleansing, exfoliation, and extraction, cold stones are used to reduce inflammation. The face is then massaged with alternating hot and cold stones. Cold stones relax and tone muscles and reduce puffiness, congestion, and inflammation. Hot stones rapidly stimulate the nervous system to increase blood and lymph circulation, which help repair damaged cells and improve the face and skin’s appearance. Following the facial massage, an appropriate mask is applied to hydrate, repair, and renew the skin. While the mask works, the neck, décolleté, upper back, arms, and hands are massaged with warm stones. This fabulous treatment improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, invigorates cellular renewal, and re-balances the root cause of skin conditions, leaving you with clean, revitalized and luminous skin with a more refined texture and vibrant, healthy glow. A 60-minute treatment costs $150. A 90-minute treatment includes foot and lower leg massage and costs $215.

As with all spa services, the River Rock Facial includes the Great Jones Cure, which the spa promotes to inspire guests to break away from the rush and demands of daily life and take time to re-center themselves. The Great Jones Cure includes full use of Great Jones SpaÂ’s river rock sauna, chakra light steam room, cold plunge pool, hot tub, and wet lounge solarium up to two hours prior to and one hour following spa treatments.

M-GAMING BOOMS - OPERA TELECOM LAUNCHES NEW SMS ADVENTURE AND PET GAMES

First-to-market mobile services will position Opera Telecom at the forefront of the exploding mobile gaming industry

(PRWEB) April 28, 2002

24 April 2002 - A recent Ovum report predicted that there will be 700 million mobile gamers globally by 2005. As part of a drive to increase its share of the mobile gaming market, Opera Telecom, the fastest growing international provider of mobile services, providing SMS content, campaign management and infrastructure support, is launching a series of unique SMS adventure games and pet services.

Uber, a fighting game, invites players to join a tribe and choose a character to play. Coming up against epidemics and disasters, gamers will venture on a quest, being set tasks and questions and inviting and challenging other players along the way. Their choice of weapons, maps and supplies will affect their characterÂ’s health.

Another fighting game, Last State, shares many similar features to Uber with questions and tasks being set for each player in return for clues. The earth is dying and players need to fight their way to the centre of the earth to claim their place in the Last State. Gamers face hazards and their choice of weapons and supplies will again affect their progress.

Two pet packages have also been designed, targeted at both the youth and adult markets. Users of the service receive a virtual pet on their mobile phone via SMS and are sent daily health updates, questions and logos, with playersÂ’ responses affecting the health and behaviour of their pet.

These exclusive SMS games and services will be offered to Opera TelecomÂ’s client base on a zero-cost-of-entry, revenue-share basis, with Opera Telecom providing the SMS content, delivery and background infrastructure, without customers having to incur any set-up charges. Over the next few months, Opera Telecom will be further enhancing and developing its mobile games and services to incorporate voice and web interaction.

Gary Corbett, Managing Director of Opera Telecom, comments, “By continually taking to market innovative and original mobile games and services, we are very well positioned to capitalise on the explosive growth in mobile gaming and establish ourselves as the leading player in the m-gaming industry.”

Corbett concludes, “Gaming will be the biggest sector in multimedia mobiles over the next few years and as the market continues to accelerate, so will our portfolio of products and services. We are committed to ongoing development of new ideas and creative content, and in addition to the 10 SMS applications we are already releasing every month, we will shortly be launching our first java games, with plans to release four java games each month thereafter.”

Bush Missing Iraq WMD has Been Found in Iraq and One Million U. S. Soldiers are its Victims

Bush Missing Iraq WMD has Been Found in Iraq and One Million U. S. Soldiers are its Victims

No Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) that Bush told us were in Iraq were found. Today, to the tragedy of over one million U. S. soldiers and countless innocent Iraqi civilians, there is a Weapon of Mass Destruction in Iraq. That weapon is the deadly radioactive Depleted Uranium (DU) that is used by the U. S. military.

Tuckahoe, NY (PRWEB) October 29, 2008

Author Paul J. Landis has completed an enhanced web site and the new "Tribune Gazette" to support updates and an updated title to his book "A Real 9/11 Commission," all of which provide dramatic evidence and information about the on-going tragic threat to over one million U. S. soldiers and innocent Iraqi civilians: the radioactive Weapon of Mass Destruction - Depleted Uranium (DU).

There is significant new information and additional content covering a number of critical current issues, Landis told us, thus justifying the new title "A Real 9/11 Commission Will Help Free America, Now" (ISBN 0-9760408-2-4, April 2007; US $14.75, UK, £ 9.85.) The "Tribune Gazette" has been designed to provide an affordable newspaper format and mirrors the topics covered in the updated book and web site, www. wethepeoplewethemedia. com, all available now.

In the book, web site and Tribune Gazette, Landis explains, the issue of Depleted Uranium use by our military is put in the context of the 'illegal' Iraq War. For example, In 2005 the ASMFE recognized the illegality of the Iraq war and called for a 'rapid return' of our troops. See note 1 below. As stated in the 2008 AFSME Resolution 85, Bush made "false claims" about the presence of Weapons of Mass destruction (WMD) being in Iraq. See note 2 below. This 2008 Res 85 re-affirms the concerns and that our troops be "brought home as soon and as safely as possible". As the illegal Iraq War continues, billions of dollars that could be used for U. S. infrastructure enhancements, education, housing and medical services for Americans are lost.

Also, Landis continues, the book, web site and "Tribune Gazette" develop a theme based upon the question: Is there a "New Iron Curtain Around the USA, A media Iron Curtain". As evidence of this "New Iron Curtain": How many Americans have been informed by our 'mainstream' media of 1) what is DU and what are the consequences of its use by the military, 2) informed about its use in Iraq and 3) informed that over one million U. S. soldiers and countless innocent Iraqi civilians, have been exposed to it and 4) one of the results of exposure to DU is the births of deformed babies, U. S. babies as well as Iraqi babies?

The pictures with this article graphically show that Depleted Uranium is a lethal, unconscionable, radioactive weapon and the extent to which it has and will continue to cause illnesses and the loss of life should be unacceptable.

Of the use of Depleted Uranium by our military, Dave Lindorff reports in his "Radioactive Wounds of War":
"U. S. forces first used DU in the 1991 Gulf War, when some 300 tons of depleted uranium--the waste product of nuclear power plants and weapons facilities--were used in tank shells and shells fired by A-10 jets. A lesser amount was deployed by U. S. and NATO forces during the Balkans conflict. But in the current wars in Afghanistan and, especially, Iraq, DU has become the weapon of choice, with more than 1,000 tons used in Afghanistan and more than 3,000 tons used in Iraq. And while DU was fired mostly in the desert during the Gulf War, in the current war in Iraq, most of DU munitions are exploding in populated urban areas." See note 3 below.

While most of us may not have the background to understand what the implications of 360 tons vs. 10 tons of DU is, we can grasp the clear message that 3000 tons of DU as reported above by Dave Lindorff and that the "DU munitions are exploding in populated urban areas" is a catastrophe.

HAVE DU WILL TRAVEL is the cover of the March 2006 edition of The Lone Star Iconoclast featuring a series of excellent articles about DU. See note 4 below.

In this edition in the interview of Leon Smith, Editor-in chief of The Lone Star Iconoclast, Schwartz states "They have exposed close to a million of our troops.". That was in March 2006.

In the same interview Schwartz tells us "They put 425,000 Americans in Desert Storm and over 300,000 of them are having medical disability issues." And "The Canadians told me, "Oh, for the record, the reason we didn't go to Iraq is we are already seeing some huge health issues on the Canadian troops that participated in Desert Storm, Bosnia, and Afghanistan. We're not going to be exposing our folks to this stuff anymore. We're against it." Now, they're coming to grips in their own country with some very real and very tragic health stories, and our government is sitting on it." See note 4 below, page 15

The implications of these numbers are numbing: there is huge potential of many Iraq War vets ill and dying and their wives vulnerable to becoming infected and to give birth to deformed offspring.

For the people of Iraq, living in areas of high DU concentrations, the effects are beyond tragic. Iraq babies are born so deformed that many are hardly recognizable as human babies.
See http://www. wethepeoplewethemedia. com/children. htm (http://www. wethepeoplewethemedia. com/children. htm).

The article summaries below highlight evidence that populations outside of Iraq are not safe from the effects of DU. Landis tells us, the tile of Chapter 23 in my book is "Un-Knowing Participants in the Story of Depleted Uranium" to help bring attention to this issue.

The March 2006 edition of The Lone Star Iconoclast also includes this Interview with Dr. Ernest Sternglass By W. Leon Smith"
"The issue of greatest concern is that Americans at home as well as the people in the UK and in many parts of the world are unwilling participants in this tragedy.

"... Measurements by the Weapons Establishment in England show that these fine particles travel thousands of miles around the world and, Leuren Moret has pictures that NASA satellites took showing the sand storms going across the Atlantic and all over the world so we have totally underestimated the very serious nature of the use of uranium as weapons." See Note 3 below, page 7.

Landis introduces the article segment below, pointing out its disturbing consequences for Americans

African Dust Storms Bring Depleted Uranium to the Southern U. S.
By Richard Stenger CNN, June 18, 2001
"Dust storm plumes from northern Africa travel thousands of miles across the Atlantic transporting millions of tons of sand and dust with bacteria, viruses, pollen, pollution, and radioactive isotopes such as depleted uranium from the Middle East and Central Asia.1 The easterly trade winds carry the dust across the Atlantic in 5-7 days at about 10,000 feet.2 Almost all of it is rained out into the environment within two months, including the depleted uranium and other radioactive isotopes from the Sahara. In fact these atmospheric dusts are what make sunsets red. The seasonal African storms peak in July, contributing to a reddish haze across the U. S. Southeast. From June to October the Caribbean and Central America are targeted by the storms, but the Amazon Basin gets hit from February to April."
Http://archives. cnn. com/2001/TECH/science/06/18/dust. microbes/index. html (http://archives. cnn. com/2001/TECH/science/06/18/dust. microbes/index. html)

And for people in Europe, Did the use of Uranium weapons in Gulf War 2 result in contamination of Europe? Evidence from the measurements of the Atomic Weapons Establishment, Aldermaston, Berkshire, UK.
http://archives. cnn. com/2001/TECH/science/06/18/dust. microbes/index. html (http://archives. cnn. com/2001/TECH/science/06/18/dust. microbes/index. html)

The harsh and unfortunate reality we must consider is that given the global movement of dust storms like these, no one, ultimately, anywhere in the world, is safe from the effects of Depleted Uranium.
Do these issues deserve and demand our considered attention?

Packaging Study Shows Need for More Vigilance to Ensure Compliance, Vinyl Institute Says

Packaging Study Shows Need for More Vigilance to Ensure Compliance, Vinyl Institute Says

Vinyl Institute said today that a recent study finding some packaging and inks on packaging of imported products out of compliance with several states' lead and cadmium limits suggested a need for more vigilance by the import/distribution/retail chain in ensuring product and packaging compliance.

Arlington, VA (PRWEB) July 18, 2007

The Vinyl Institute said today that a recent study finding some packaging and inks on packaging of imported products out of compliance with several states' lead and cadmium limits suggested a need for more vigilance by the import/distribution/retail chain in ensuring product and packaging compliance.

The study, conducted by the Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse under a U. S. Environmental Protection Agency grant, reportedly found levels of lead and cadmium in some packaging and inks that exceeded regulatory levels set under so-called CONEG toxics in packaging laws (originally developed by the Coalition of Northeast Governors to address waste issues). Some 19 states have adopted such laws, which prohibit deliberate use of metals such as lead and cadmium and limit incidental levels to 100 parts per million.

Among the samples found to be out of compliance were a substantial percentage of flexible PVC packages containing imported products.

On the other hand, all of the clear, rigid PVC "blister" packaging, used for products such as medicines, that was tested passed, according to the Clearinghouse. Overall PVC packaging compliance was on a par with that of the other packaging materials tested in the study, based on data reviewed by VI.

Lead and cadmium have been used as stabilizers in the production of PVC products, as coloring agents in inks, and for other applications. However, today in the United States, the vast majority of PVC stabilizers are based on compounds of tin, calcium or zinc, which are widely accepted by regulatory agencies and the public, rather than lead or cadmium.

Tim Burns, president of the Vinyl Institute, said, "There is no reason for PVC packaging to be out of compliance with state packaging laws. Wherever these problems are originating, the manufacturer/supply chain must do a better job to ensure compliance."

The report did not look at health risks, nor did it suggest that the contaminant levels found in the packaging posed health risks.

The study also inadvertently raised concerns about test methods. It showed that depending on which method or testing apparatus was used, results could differ by as much as a factor of 100. This variance suggested a need for more analysis of the accuracy of various analytical methods, according to VI.

JAMA Commentary Looks at Data-Sharing in Clinical Trials for Heart Disease: Discussion of When and How to Share Data, and When to Suspend a Study

JAMA Commentary Looks at Data-Sharing in Clinical Trials for Heart Disease: Discussion of When and How to Share Data, and When to Suspend a Study

How and when to share clinical trial data for heart studies -- including when to suspend a study -- is vitally important to physician-scientists and regulators as an increasing number clinical trials evaluate new treatments. This issue is explored in the April 9 Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) in a commentary article authored by Dr. Jeffrey S. Borer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Drs. David J. Gordon and Nancy L. Geller -- both of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 9, 2008

How and when to share clinical trial (http://www. gilmanheartvalve. org/) data for heart (http://www. gilmanheartvalve. org/) studies -- including when to suspend a study -- is vitally important to physician-scientists and regulators as an increasing number clinical trials evaluate new treatments. This issue is explored in the April 9 Journal of the American Medical Association (http://www. gilmanheartvalve. org/) (JAMA) in a commentary article authored by Dr. Jeffrey S. Borer of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Drs. David J. Gordon and Nancy L. Geller -- both of the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI).

Treatment decisions are based on findings from scientific studies called clinical trials that can sometimes involve many thousands of patients. Several of these studies -- such as those involving the drugs Avandia, Vytorin and, earlier, Vioxx -- have been the subject of recent controversies in the media.

Increasingly clinical trials are monitored by independent, external groups called Data and Safety Monitoring Committees (DSMCs), charged with protecting the safety of trial participants and preserving trial integrity and credibility. These committees are the only groups that can know results of blinded trials (trials in which participants and investigators are not aware of treatment assignments) while the trials are ongoing. The proper function of DSMCs is subject to discussion and debate. The JAMA article addresses one aspect of this debate.

"Several situations exist in which it is reasonable and appropriate for the DSMC to share interim data from a blinded trial with operational study personnel and sponsors. These situations might include the need for 'mid-course corrections,' when the number of outcome events -- like deaths and heart attacks -- is substantially lower in the untreated group than was expected in a trial to reduce such problems," says Dr. Jeffrey S. Borer, article co-author and director of Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and co-director of The Howard Gilman Institute for Valvular Heart Diseases at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and the Gladys and Roland Harriman Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College.

"If this happens," Dr. Borer continues, "the total number of patients slated to participate in the trial may be inadequate to test the therapy's effectiveness. In this case, the DSMC might notify the sponsor and suggest an increase in the number of subjects to be recruited into the study. However, the DSMC would not tell the sponsor the number of events that had occurred in each treatment group."

While sharing some data would be reasonable and appropriate in several other situations, Dr. Borer stresses that "the DSMC should share patient (http://www. gilmanheartvalve. org/) treatment assignments related to interim outcome/event data with the sponsor in only one situation -- when recommending premature termination of the study."

Reasons the DSMCs recommend termination include:
The committee perceives a rising toll of adverse events that appears to outweigh any possible benefit from the treatment. No evidence of benefit is apparent and statistical analysis suggests that continuation is highly unlikely to produce such benefit (called "futility analysis"). Evidence of benefit is so overwhelming and important (example: reduction in death rate) and risks sufficiently low, that the benefit/risk relation is highly likely to be maintained if the trial continued to its planned conclusion. It would be unethical to withhold the good treatment, not only from all trial participants, but also from other members of society who might benefit. According to the authors, this decision must be undertaken with great caution because of the well-known variability of results over time, even in large trials.

The article notes that while there are differences in data-sharing procedures between industry-sponsored and government-sponsored trials, all sponsors "own" their data, and can demand unblinded information even if this is considered unwise by the DSMC.

The authors recommend that before doing so, the sponsor should consider the long-term consequences of such action, which can affect regulatory acceptability, future analyses and publication of the data.

"In such settings, if the DSMC is concerned that trial credibility or validity will be compromised by the release of interim data, there are few avenues open to the committee except formal protest or resignation," says Dr. Borer, since no legally constituted regulatory body has provided relevant guidance or regulation to deal with the issue of interim data release.

The authors note that discussion and debate will continue regarding the appropriate sharing of interim data as society increasingly depends on clinical trials for advancing medical (http://www. gilmanheartvalve. org/) treatments.

The article is based on presentations by the authors and subsequent discussion held during the Ninth Cardiovascular Clinical Trialists (CVCT) Workshop in Paris, France, in 2006.

The Howard Gilman Institute for Valvular Heart Diseases at Weill Cornell Medical College helps cardiologists (http://www. gilmanheartvalve. org/), cardiothoracic surgeons (http://www. gilmanheartvalve. org/) and other physicians take advantage of the most current concepts in the evaluation and treatment of heart valve diseases, and provides state-of-the-art patient care. The Institute's co-directors, Dr. Jeffrey S. Borer and Dr. O. Wayne Isom, are leaders in their fields and direct a team of clinical cardiologists, surgeons and research scientists who are at the cutting-edge of this emerging public health concern.
