AHA Skin Care System, MD Forte, Found at www. bestpriceskincare. com

Best Price Skin Care carries MD Forte, an AHA skin care system, is a top skin care line created by Allergan that uses the science of alpha-hydroxy acids to fight the concerns of aging.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) May 3, 2005

MD Forte is an AHA skin care system aiding in anti-aging using alpha-hydroxy acid to neutralize the pH of your skin. Using a combination of gylcolic acid and the process of partial neutralization, MD Forte has created products with a higher amount of glycolic acid (This is because its small molecular size means more active molecules of glycolic acid are available in a given concentration) plus a neutral pH to help minimize irritation. While there is more glycolic acid in a given concentration, there is still a low amount enough that there is minimal irritation to the skin. This is accomplished by using that partial neutralizaion(pH like normal skin). There are plenty of products for not only normal to dry to oily skin but for sensitive skin as well.

AHAs also limit dehydration in the skin, thereby improving the skin's moisture-binding ability. Skin that retains more water becomes smoother and younger-looking, and diminishes the effects of sun damage. AHAs also exfolitate leaving the skin looking and feeling younger and more refreshed.

This is why MD Forte is exciting to learn more about! It is an advanced skin care effective and benefitial in fighting against lines, wrinkles, and dry skin.

"I am excited to see a product so advanced in improving overall skin health like MD Forte! I often suggest to clients looking for a non-procedure solution to helping their skin look younger and radiant."

-DermSpa Laser Clinic Owner C. Fretheim

"MD Forte is is great for my combination skin. I tend to break out easily in my t-zone, while the rest of my face looks clear, but my pores are large. I love that my skin is left feeling so much more refreshed and feeling much smoother."

M. Wortel

Mr. Costumes Takes On The Dark Knight

Mr. Costumes Takes On The Dark Knight.

Sales of the Joker costumes propel Mr. Costumes 2008 seasonal growth.

Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) September 18, 2008

Mr. Costumes (www. mrcostumes. com), a premier internet retailer for quality costumes and accessories in the U. S., reports 2008 as the year of The Dark Knight and the Joker.

Following the success of the megahit Warner Bros. film, The Dark Knight, and the tragic death of actor Heath Ledger who portrayed the Joker in the movie, demand for adult-size Joker disguises on the Mr. Costumes website has skyrocketed. The popularity of the movie and the cultural effect of Ledger's death have propelled seasonal demand for the villain costume while effectively boosting the sales revenues and overall popularity of MrCostumes. com, an emerging player in the Halloween Costumes (http://www. mrcostumes. com) market.

So far this season, sales of Adult Costumes (http://www. mrcostumes. com/Adult-Costumes-C2.aspx) on MrCostumes. com make up approximately 61% of all revenues with sales of adult-size Joker costumes accounting for nearly 45% of that number. A major factor attributing to the Joker's retail success is the high amount of interest in a particular version of the costume -- the highly coveted, more limited 'Batman Dark Night The Joker' costume from the Grand Heritage Costume Collection. Chris Miller, co-founder of Mr. Costumes responded to this phenomenon by saying, "It's going to be an exciting inaugural Halloween for MrCostumes. com thanks to the box office success of The Dark Knight movie and the solid movement of the Grand Heritage Joker Costume (http://www. mrcostumes. com/Joker-Costume-C44.aspx)."

Mr. Costumes is backed by parent company Trading Fort, LLC, a successful online retailer and operator of sister site, YardEnvy. com (www. YardEnvy. com), a fine patio and garden décor expo. With the support of their parent company and healthy 2008 Halloween sales compliments of the Joker, Mr. Costumes looks to be a major force in the online costume retail space for years to come.

Adobe Releases Public Beta of Cocomo : New Platform-as-a-Service Lets Developers Quickly Build Real-Time Social Applications

Adobe Releases Public Beta of Cocomo : New Platform-as-a-Service Lets Developers Quickly Build Real-Time Social Applications

Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today introduced a new Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), codenamed “Cocomo,” that can let developers easily add real-time social capabilities into Web applications via “cloud” computing. Using Cocomo and Adobe® Flex®, developers can include collaboration features like real-time audio/video and chat in their existing applications, or build entirely new ones such as multi-player games or social media applications that run cross-platform using Adobe Flash® Player or Adobe AIR™.

SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) November 16, 2008

Cocomo is comprised of Flex client components, a hosted services infrastructure, and a simple but powerful development model. Now, developers can rapidly build rich user experiences for real-time applications in a matter of days instead of months. Further, because Cocomo was designed with security in mind, developers can confidently build multi-user applications that are easier for people to use and trust.

Adobe uses Cocomo in Adobe Acrobat® 9 software and Adobe Reader® 9 software, as well as Acrobat. com, to provide end users with access to real-time collaboration within and around PDF documents. This capability can enable users to drive a group's navigation through a PDF document in real-time, helping ensure everyone is literally, and figuratively, on the same page.

Real-time social features that can be added to Web applications include:

Robust Data Messaging VoIP Audio Webcam Video Real-Time File Sharing Text Chat Contextual Presence The Cocomo public beta is available immediately for free sign-up at http://www. adobe. com/go/cocomo (http://www. adobe. com/go/cocomo).

Quotes:

Erik Larson, director of marketing and product management, Adobe's Business Productivity Business Unit

"In releasing Cocomo, we are making another leap forward towards enabling developers to deliver rich Internet applications powered by Adobe platform technologies. Cocomo extends our strategy to give developers the power to create rich real-time social applications that will change the way people communicate and collaborate with each other." Kevin Chesney, chief executive officer, Acesis

"Cocomo allows us to rapidly include real-time collaboration features, with rich video and audio, within Acesis Medical Review, all while meeting the stringent security requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Our customers can be confident they are not exposing sensitive information during the medical peer review process, because the data never leaves the control of our system. And, because we can rely on Adobe to manage and maintain the hosted servers for real-time communications, our engineering team can concentrate on developing and delivering new features that help doctors improve patient care and prevent medical errors." Sean Corfield, vice president of engineering and chief systems architect, Broadchoice, Inc.

"We think that Cocomo has the potential to revolutionize collaboration application development. It's quite flexible and will support a broad range of application needs, and it provides a remarkably easy way to incorporate audio and video conferencing into an application." Links:

Gozi Trojan - King of Evasion Continues to Avoid Sophisticated Detection. TrustDefender Labs Analysis Shows Increasing Threats of Trojans

Gozi Trojan - King of Evasion Continues to Avoid Sophisticated Detection. TrustDefender Labs Analysis Shows Increasing Threats of Trojans

The recent TrustDefender Labs report has alarmingly discovered another variant of the Gozi Trojan with a 0% detection rate. TrustDefender Labs has recently re-analysed the Trojan Gozi, (pronounced goh'-zee), which has been showing fraudulent attacks since 2007. Their research highlights how the Gozi Trojan is very professional, efficient and attacks financial institutions worldwide by managing to stay under the radar and remain undetectable. By targeting specific financial institutions (mainly business and corporate banking in the US) Gozi endeavours not to attract industry attention with this approach. While everybody is talking about Zeus, Gozi can do its dirty work.

(PRWEB) November 5, 2010

During the TrustDefender Labs tests the Gozi Trojan was invisible to all leading anti-virus software, allowing it to infiltrate and attack user’s systems and browsers. The new Gozi variant has many of the same characteristics of its predecessor (researched 12 months ago) however, is showing increasing sophistication in HTML injection compared to other Trojans. Gozi perpetrators have been successfully evading signature patterns so consistently that the evolution of the Trojan has been relatively unknown. This highlights the potential risks and impacts of attacks on financial institutions, businesses and individuals whilst staying predominantly undetectable to any anti-virus software.

Online Security expert and CTO of TrustDefender, Andreas Baumhof comments; “Gozi is unbelievably good at staying under the radar from an infection point of view, but this particular sample also used SSL and HTTPS against the good guys. Typically designed to protect us, the fraudulent use of HTTPS helps them to stay virtually invisible for their C&C server connection. Alarmingly we are coming across an increasing number of Trojans that are using SSL and HTTPS to cover their tracks. The other thing that impressed us was the extensive client-side logic to circumvent even Two-Factor Authentication. Unfortunately this is becoming more common as we see similar techniques with Trojans such as Zeus, Spyeye, Carberp.”

Why should we be worried about Gozi?
Gozi is one of the most sophisticated Trojans out there with an impressive feature set.  Gozi can use encrypted HTTPS connection for its C&C server communication with a valid certificate meaning it can evade detection.  Traditional anti-virus software is unable to detect the Gozi Trojan  Gozi features an extensive client side logic (in JavaScript) to be able to work with many different banking websites and also allowing it to steal static information (such as maiden name) and also dynamic password schemes (such as Two-Factor Authentication and One-Time-Passwords). This is similar to Zeus, Spyeye, Carberp and Silon  Gozi enables real time account takeover that even works with Two-Factor Authentication.

TrustDefender will fully detect and protect against Gozi. The TrustDefender online transaction security solution was designed to protect the user and the financial institution right from the start.

TrustDefender explained:
TrustDefender solves the issues facing financial institutions where an increasing percentage of their customer base connects to online banking services with malware infected computers.  Furthermore financial institutions have no visibility in real-time to see whether their customers have taken care of their computers and therefore the enterprise cannot distinguish between an infected or clean computer. This leaves the financial institution and the user at risk.  TrustDefender’s unique technology, evaluates the security health risk of a computing device, allowing the business to detect the ever increasing sophistication of malware, immediately act and stop a potential threat through the application of business rules and policies in real-time before any authentication process begins;  TrustDefender provides key information to online enterprises including financial institutions, while giving the enterprise risk manager a real-time risk profile of the endpoint computers access their website.  TrustDefender can be easily integrated with existing and older risk management engines to enhance the capabilities of these technologies.  TrustDefender provides the enterprise with the ability to not only protect the customer but also notify the customer of any security threats and advise them how to deal with any potential risk. The Safe&Secure Mode will make sure a customer can always securely login and fix the problem at a later date.

About TrustDefender
TrustDefender is the worldwide leading provider of ‘real-time risk based online transaction security solutions’ to safeguard consumer, financial institution and business online transactions. TrustDefender’s revolutionary technologies enable users to verify its security health state, perform a memory forensics analysis and secure their mobile computing device in real-time - before and during any Internet transactions.

At the same time, TrustDefender provides real time feedback on the security health of their computer. Best yet, the user does not need to be a security expert to use this technology. Most importantly, for the first time, the financial institution has real-time information that they can use to better protect transactions from compromise and also allows the enterprise risk managers to finally get a real time risk profile of their customer base.

The Enterprise Server incorporates a real-time risk-scoring engine that together with the rules and policy engine is always in control and can give the financial institution a server-side tool to mitigate the risk on both ends and includes an extensive Auditing and Reporting module. TrustDefender is the world’s first security solution which enables online businesses to integrate the home user or end user’s PC into one overall security chain.

TrustDefender was founded in December 2005 after the founders discovered the traditional security model was broken – and decided to fix it.

It's Hard to Feel Sexy When You are Constantly Tired and Look Like a Potato

It's Hard to Feel Sexy When You are Constantly Tired and Look Like a Potato

Dr. C. W. Randolph, author of From Belly Fat to Belly Flat, says there is a way to get your sexual desire back. Hormones play a big part in sexual activity as we age.

Jacksonville Beach, FL (PRWEB) February 13, 2008

Valentine's Day is this week. Love, romance and possibly a little more rambunctious activity should be in store for most couples. But, unfortunately, too often women as young as their early 30's and men in their early 40's are finding they rarely have the energy for spontaneous, joyful sex, says Dr. C. W. Randolph, author of the best selling books, From Hormone Hell to Hormone Well and From Belly Fat to Belly Flat.

" Even worse, they report little sexual desire and tell me they'd rather have an extra hour sleep." says Randolph. If you can identify, you are not alone. According to the Masters and Johnson Institute, at least a third of American couples of all ages experience lack of sexual desire.

"I think the world would be a better place if more people, who are blessed to be in relationships with someone they care about and trust, would have sex more often," says Randolph. "This is not just my personal opinion. Scientific evidence is accumulating to support what many have suspected all along: good sex not only adds great enjoyment to our lives, but it also actually improves our health and may even contribute to our longevity." In his book Sexual Healing, Dr. Paul Pearsall writes "When we experience intimate, mutually caring sexual intimacy, we may experience a measurable change in neuron-chemicals and hormones that pour through the body and help promote health and healing."

"My guess is that you probably agree with the idea that "more sex is a good thing" but how to translate that idea into your everyday reality may seem daunting," says Dr. Randolph, "In writing our latest book, From Belly Fat to Belly Flat, with my wife, Genie James, we had the opportunity to talk to many women and men about their sex drive, or lack of. One woman told us "It is just plain hard to feel sexy and 'in the mood' when you are bone tired and, when you look in the mirror, you think you look like a potato."

People with low sex drives may be suffering from hypo-active sexual desire disorder, more commonly referred to in lay language as "low libido". It is important for you to understand that if you are a woman over 30 or a man over 40 and you have a low libido, your problems with arousal and desire could stem from an underlying hormonal imbalance that occurs with age. The medical term for this specific type of hormone imbalance is estrogen dominance. The good news is that estrogen dominance can be treated safely and naturally.

For many women and men, bio-identical progesterone cream is a fundamental first step in treating low, or hypo-active, sexual desire and response. Women using it typically report enhanced sexual function including increased vaginal lubrication and improved clitoral response. Men report improved feelings of desire and "readiness."

When writing, From Belly Fat to Belly Flat, Dr. Randolph and Ms. James were delighted at how quickly women and men on their 3-Step Belly Flat Program. who were starting to drop those extra pounds around their middle also reported a coincident surge of libido. "I feel better, I look better and I have energy left over at the end of the day so it is easier to get in the mood" and "I just feel sexier now that I can see my toes again" were typical of the many comments they heard, usually within the first few weeks.

With life expectancy extending well into the eighties, shouldn't sexual desire and pleasure be just as potent and enjoyable for the young-at-heart as it is for the young-in-years? With a little hormone help, now it can be.

Food Processing Units are Looming the Asia-Pacific Market

Food Processing Units are Looming the Asia-Pacific Market

(PRWEB) September 11, 2005

Catering to a large population of approximately 3.6 billion and a prominent export market for the Western world, food production and processing units are largely luring investors with better business opportunities.

Open trading environment that swept Asia-Pacific in recent years has stimulated extensive use of imported equipment and better technology by the food processing industry, enabling experimentation in and introduction of a variety of new processed products in the market, such as, frozen foods, processed meats, and beverages.

With large number of Australian food manufacturers ruling the roost, new opportunities are thriving that will lead the market to grow by approximately 13% by 2007. Elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific region, both China and India, with a large customer base, are expected to show strong growth due to changing food habits of the people.

Industry sources revealed that sharp rise for natural products and healthier food, without any synthetic chemical preservatives, induced manufacturers to explore new food processing and preservation methods to exploit the demand. Consequently, food manufacturers are concentrating on producing novel products to meet consumer requirements. This has lead to an increased demand for better food handling, processing and packaging units, across Asia-Pacific.

RNCOS’s market research report, “Food Processing Industry—Asia Pacific (2005)”, penetrates in to the Asia-Pacific region and discusses the availability of raw materials, changing lifestyles, and flexible trade regulations that have been the driving forces of the industry's growth. The report further assesses the production and demand growth by country and units of sales to give you a clear understanding of the impending growth options available for the marketers. Market drivers and opportunities in the region are also discussed in detail.

Sun Skincare Tips

Sun Skincare Tips

We should take good care of our skin all year round. Proper moisturizing and drinking plenty of fluids will help keep your skin healthy and young looking. Summer means we need to take a little extra care over our basic skin regime.

(PRWEB) June 17, 2005

We should take good care of our skin all year round. Proper moisturizing and drinking plenty of fluids will help keep your skin healthy and young looking. Summer means we need to take a little extra care over our basic skin regime.

Today, it’s pretty hard not to be aware of the damage the sun can do to our skin. Turn on the TV or radio, pick up a magazine – there are warnings everywhere. Funny thing is some people still don’t believe how damaging the sun can be. You’ll hear people say things like “I don’t burn” or “I only burn one and then I tan” or “I don’t believe sunscreen is good for me with all those chemicals.”

We cannot stress enough how important it is to protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun. That doesnÂ’t mean you cannot still get that beautiful tan. It simply means you need to take some precautions so you wonÂ’t become a skin cancer statistic in the future. Also taking care will help keep your skin looking younger and healthier. UVA rays cause the skin to age, while UVB rays cause the skin to burn. You simply cannot overdo reminding someone to use sunscreen.

We recommend you apply foundation first thing in the morning before leaving your house. Ironic how us women are busy purchasing up all the anti aging products that hit the market trying to keep our skin looking youthful, yet we entirely ignore the damage that the sun can do. So while we are busy applying anti age creams and sirums, we rush outside into the sun without applying any protection from the sun once again damaging our skin. Rather a vicious circle. Okay enough – you get the picture I’m sure! So apply either a foundation with SPF15 first thing in the morning or apply your sunscreen and then your foundation.

So what does ultraviolet light do to the skin? UVA rays are the aging rays. They penetrate deep into the layers of the skin. It is believed they are responsible for premature aging and skin cancer. UVB rays are the rays that cause you to burn. They affect the out skin layers and cause sunburn, skin aging, and skin cancer.

There are many brands of sunscreen on the market ranging in SPF, some water proof, some are hypo allergenic, some rich in kinetin known for cell rejuvenation and its healing qualities.

Clinical studies have actually shown kinetin to reverse and repair sun damaged skin. Choose a sunscreen that best meets your needs.

Great, now weÂ’ve slathered sunblock all over our body like weÂ’re suppose to. But there are other areas we need to protect that we often forget about. Our eyes are subject to burning to so be sure to wear sunglasses that have at least a 99% block against UV rays. This will protect your vision and save you from the dreaded crowÂ’s feet. Wear a wide brimmed hat to protect your hair and further shade your eyes. You also need to protect your lips by using a lip gloss or balm that has at least a SPF15 rating. It is also very important to drink lots of fluids. Stay away from caffeine based products and soda pop as they actually dehydrate the body. Drinking plenty of fluids hydrates the entire body so you donÂ’t become a victim of heat stroke. Hydrating the skin also keeps it youthful and allows the body to flush toxins away much easier.

Summer is the fun season. DonÂ’t hide inside fearful of the damaging rays. A little protection and common sense will keep you healthy and allow you to get out and enjoy the warm summer season. Have fun in the sun.

It is a powerful project management tool that interoperates seamlessly with Microsoft Project and QuickBooks, is backed-up by excellent training and technical support, and is very competitively priced. In fact, after one year of being very satisfied with the product and support, we just renewed our license with Vertabase."

"We use Vertabase Pro for scheduling and time-tracking. It has enabled us to eliminate loose ends. Furthermore, Vertabase Pro has not been 'down' once in the last year. Bottom line: When we implemented Vertabase Pro, our resource utilization was at about 60% efficiency. Now, it's at around 85% - that's a 25% gain in overall productivity thanks to Vertabase Pro," Mr. Mulligan concluded.

Drop by Drop: Free Six Month Offer of ImmunoTherapy Allergy DROPs Neutralize Parent and Children Allergies

Drop by Drop: Free Six Month Offer of ImmunoTherapy Allergy DROPs Neutralize Parent and Children Allergies

After being successfully used in Europe for more than a decade, DropYourAllergies. com is welcoming its exciting "patient friendly" allergy drop neutralizing program to the United States by offering allergy sufferers a free, Breathe-IN-Life, six-month allergy drops trial. Following a visit to a primary physician, ImmunoTherapy Allergy DROPs are custom formulated much like traditional Allergy Shots, to neutralize each patient's, unique allergy test identified source of offending geo-regional, seasonal & year-round environmental allergens.

Highland Park, IL (PRWEB) June 1, 2009 - Through its unique Breathe-IN-

Life allergy neutralization promotion and with a prescription from a primary physician, DropYourAllergies. com is offering six months of free custom-formulated Enviro ImmunoTherapy Allergy DROPs (http://www. dropyourallergies. com/option1.php) and a free custom-generated Food Allergy Diet Action Plan (http://www. dropyourallergies. com/food. php), both based on a person's unique environmental & food allergy blood test results.

Anyone with allergies and allergic asthma can tell countless horror stories of how allergies not only negatively affect their health, but their very quality of life itself. How allergies steal life's health and zest, making people depressed, tired and affect their every day life and relationships. Unfortunately, the list goes on and on and on.

The problem lies in the fact that most allergy sufferers are prescribed allergy medications, which are not designed to solve the problem, but rather simply minimize the symptoms. This leaves a sufferer's allergy disease intact, untreated and allowed get worse. Beginning at birth, continuing 24 / 7 / 365 / a lifetime (http://www. breathe-in-life. com/breath2.php), allergies can lead to numerous serious medical problems, allergic asthma (http://www. dropyourallergies. com/asthma. php) to name one. In fact, research has shown that 60% of all asthma is allergic "enviro trigger" asthma which is often followed by a lifetime, slippery slope of further Allergy Driven diseases and compromised life quality.

What's even scarier is allergies are often passed down from the parents to the kids, so parents who are unaware of the dangers of allergy disease progression, simply continue to mask their symptoms, and in turn, continue to medicate "their" child's allergy symptoms, only perpetuating the generation after generation after generation vicious cycle of allergy driven diseases.

The medical fact is that allergy shots have been the only way to neutralize allergy disease, until now. But allergy shots are often discontinued and are not nearly as "patient / kid friendly" as self administered, under-the-tongue DROPs. Now, with the Breathe-IN-Life ImmunoTherapy Allergy DROPs Program, parents have the ability to derail this vicious allergy disease cycle in their life, and their children's lives.

And all of this is available through the "just around the corner" primary physician, who knows the patient or child better than a special, out-of-the-way, expensive specialist. To get started using ImmunoTherapy Allergy DROPs, an allergy sufferer simply has to inform their primary physician that they want to try the drops. The primary physician can do the rest, including the allergy exam, the insurance-covered blood draw for the allergy test and prescribing the Allergy DROPs. The drops are then custom-formulated specifically to neutralize each patient's unique offending geo-regional, seasonal & year-round allergens.

Glenn Toth M. D., FAAFP and Medical Director for DropYourAllergies. com, said: "Everyday I see first hand, not only how allergy disease erodes a sufferer's health and immune system, but how the lifetime of their allergy driven disease has invaded every aspect of their personal, family, social, academic, exercise, downtime and professional quality of life. We feel, with our Breathe - IN - Life Program, that the time is now to put a generation of allergy sufferers firmly on the path to a Life free of allergy disease complications and symptoms."

Speaking to today's Pro-Active Medical Consumer, who wishes to minimize medications and be as "green" as possible, Allergy DROPs are natural and virtually drug free, containing only trace amounts of FDA approved extracts of each sufferers offending seasonal or year-round allergens. Slowly over time, extract concentrations are increased, allowing the bodies natural recuperative and adaptive abilities to recalibrate the immune system. This neutralizes the allergy disease at the source, producing the health and quality of life improvements that come with being allergy free.

DropYourAllergies. com wants people to learn what it's like to live without enviro allergies, so they are offering six months worth of allergy drops for free (http://www. breathe-in-life. com/). If at the end of six months, the sufferer does not feel they have turned a corner and feel better with their allergies, they can discontinue use at no charge.

But, if they are finding themselves feeling better and with more energy, they can continue their drop protocol for the price of a cup of coffee a day.

Additionally, the Breathe-IN-Life Allergy Promotion realizes that Enviro Allergies often co-exist with food allergies. As such, it is also offering a free Food Allergy Diet Action Plan (http://www. breathe-in-life. com/), suggesting foods to eat, not eat, restrict and reintroduce on a controlled basis all based on the custom test Identified food allergy sources.

Stephen Hauer, Principal of DropYourAllergies. com said: "For allergy sufferers, you have nothing to lose, but your allergies. Together with your primary physician, our Breathe-IN-Life Program offers real diagnostic medicine, treating real allergy disease sources, offering real health and quality of life benefits."

(PRWEB) May 30, 2004

On May 26th Richard Olsen, founder and Executive Director of The National Stillbirth Society traveled to Washington DC where the first-ever research round table conference was held, sponsored by The MISS Foundation and facilitated by The International Stillbirth Alliance and First Candle/SIDS Alliance, the latter organization now being fully committed to the fight against stillbirth. The conference attracted prominent scientists from all over the world in this crucial first meeting. Other participants of the Round Table were:

1.) J. Frederik Frøen, MD, PhD (Main investigator and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Committee of ISA), Perinatal Research Center, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Department of Pediatric Research, Rikshospitalet University Clinic, University of Oslo.

2.) Harriet Akre, MD, PhD, (co-investigator) Omnia Sleep Laboratories, Oslo.

3.) Michael Berman, MD, Ass. Prof. (SAC of ISA) Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Yale Medical School.

4.) Susan E. Crawford, MD, Ass. Prof. (SAC of ISA) Department of Pathology, Northwestern University.

5.) John DeFrain, PhD, Prof. (SAC of ISA) Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, College of Human Resources and Family Sciences, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, MISS Foundation, Board of Directors

6.) Malin Eberhard-Gran, MD, PhD, (co-investigator) The Norwegian Public Health Institute.

7.) Ruth C. Fretts, MD, MPH, Ass. Prof. (SAC of ISA) Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Harvard Medical Scool.

8.) Richard M. Pauli, MD, PhD, Prof. (SAC of ISA), Clinical Genetics Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison.

9.) Babill Stray-Pedersen, MD, PhD, Prof. (co-investigator and SAC of ISA) Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Rikshospitalet University Clinic, University of Oslo.

Sudden Antenatal Death Syndrome (SADS), better known by the familiar term, stillbirth is said to be "An Equal Opportunity Destroyer of Dreams". It cuts across socio-economic classes, races, religions, body types and maternal age groups. No woman is immune from this "last great mystery of obstetrics". Even women who have had several successful prior births can experience a subsequent stillbirth. That so many stillbirths occur at or near late term - when the developing baby is well beyond the point of viability and could survive outside the womb - is especially devastating, leading mothers and their doctors to speculate what might have been had their baby been delivered earlier. Autopsies, when performed, rarely uncover any cause of stillbirth not already apparent from a physical examination of the baby and placenta. Over half of these women will never discover why their babies died because doctors don't know, and autopsies don't show. One in every 115 babies delivered is a S. A.D. S. baby. This is an average of 70 babies dying a day in the U. S.A.

Without answers, there can be no prevention. Without prevention, there can be no peace. While some stillbirths may be unavoidable at present, it is babies who evidence no identifiable medical cause of death that should be capable of being saved now. Ultimately it is hoped that all stillbirths can be prevented. As parents we believe all our children matter. To learn more about S. A.D. S. and The National Stillbirth Society please view the website at www. stillnomore. org.

HABLO Gearing Up for Workshops

HABLO Gearing Up for Workshops

HABLO, a program of People's Choice, Inc. will put on a series of dramatic presentations at local high schools and community centers.

San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) September 8, 2006

Some friendly and entertaining teen-agers could be coming to a school or community center near you.

The teen-agers, who are the HABLO Peer Counselors, will give dramatic 30-minute presentations about issues facing teens today.

“While the presentations should be entertaining for others their age, they cover some important topics,” said Pamela George, assistant director for People’s Choice, Inc., the sponsor of the Helping Adolescents Build Life Options program, also known as HABLO.

“The presentations will address pregnancy prevention,” George said. “Information will be provided on various birth control methods, including abstinence as the 100 percent effective way to prevent teen pregnancy.”

The workshops also address the costs of teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections and diseases, as well as cultural awareness, decision-making and pre-employment skills.

These teens know their stuff. In August, they underwent four days of intensive training about pregnancy and STD prevention. They are to receive additional training throughout the year from the California State University San Bernardino Theater Arts Department, Learning for Life, Dameron Communications and Toastmasters International.

What’s more, they all attend the four high schools where they will work with other teens.

HABLO is working with Pacific, San Andreas, Cajon and Arroyo Valley high schools to give a series of six to eight presentations suitable for high school age audiences. The group plans to offer a slightly different presentation series, geared for middle school students, at the Johnson Hall Community Center, Waterman Gardens, and Nicholson Community Center.

HABLO will also provide participating students with resources for dealing with a pregnancy, sexually transmitted disease or other situation addressed in the training. These resources include a list of clinics that can offer confidential medical treatment.

HABLO’s program is through a grant from the California Department of Health Services, Office of Family Planning, which People’s Choice, Inc. has been a recipient of since 1997 to reduce teen-age pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases in San Bernardino County.

Anyone who would like more information about HABLO should call George at (909) 889-6600, ext. 229.

It requires no cabling, and it can be moved to other AC outlets as needed to optimize the system's performance," said Ron Hegli, Chief Technology Officer of Awarepoint.

This sensor is designed uniquely to perform two key functions: observe radio communications from tags, and route observation data to a central server. The sensors employ a networking standard called ZigBee (http://www. zigbee. org/) to automatically form an ad-hoc, mesh data network that allows tag observations to be routed through multiple sensor/routers to a coordinating bridge node and ultimately to their final destination at a server. The ability of the sensors to observe tags and create observation data that allows tag positions to be accurately calculated, the ability to wirelessly communicate the observation data to the central server, and the plug-in form factor described makes the Awarepoint sensor network deployment fast and low-impact.

"No other vendor employs the low-power radio protocols employed by Awarepoint, that provide both accurate positioning, long tag battery life and wireless data routing," added Hegli. "Further, ZigBee allows the sensors to automatically join a network as soon as they are plugged in, allowing technicians with limited training to deploy. As a result, installations are simple and deployed rapidly."

2010 Predictions: The Year 2012 is Already Here

2010 Predictions: The Year 2012 is Already Here

New Connexion Journal declares 2010 the year of conscious awareness. If you’ve been waiting for 2012, you’ll be happy to know it arrives two years early. Find out what’s coming in 2010 based on astrology, numerology and tarot.

Portland, Ore. (PRWEB) January 10, 2010

2010 is the year of conscious awareness, according to New Connexion, an alternative health and wellness journal based in the Pacific Northwest. The publication’s annual prediction issue reveals what’s coming in 2010 based on astrology, numerology and tarot predictions.

“Astrologers have been privately talking about 2010 at astrology conferences for several years, and now it’s time to bring our secrets into the world,” says astrologer Mark Dodich in the January/February issue of New Connexion. “If you have been impatiently waiting for 2012, then you will be happy to know that it is arriving two years early.”

The phrase “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” does not apply in 2010, according to Dodich. Be willing to release old beliefs and behaviors, and trust that everything is connected. The planetary energies of 2012 look calm compared to this coming summer. Do intense transformation work now in 2010 so that you are prepared to peacefully meditate on creating a new reality by 2012.

Based on numerology, the number for the universal year 2010 is 3 (2 + 0 + 1 + 0 = 3). The universal 3 year places emphasis on creativity, entertainment, communications, extravagance, carelessness and overdoing.

“On the personal level, 3 emphasizes the full range of human feelings and emotions, from the highest of cosmic connection to the lowest levels of fear, abuse and despair,” says numerologist Lynn Buess.

Tarot reader Shon Clark laid out a simple three-card tarot spread, asking “What will 2010 bring us and how can we make the best of the year to come?” The deck answered with cards for the Ace of Disks, the Lovers and the Hermit, foretelling that the coming year is full of quick and profound changes.

“We will have incredible opportunities for growth because our inner and outer selves are coming into alignment with one another,” says Clark. “We must focus our attention inward and listen to our deep truth, taking time to process these changes. This is the key to our success.”

SIUE Associate Psychology Professor, Students are Making a Difference

SIUE Associate Psychology Professor, Students are Making a Difference

Armed with tools that can help manage anger and frustration, juvenile offenders who spend time in the Madison County Detention Center in Edwardsville are finding ways to squelch bad habits and learning to live productive lives.

Edwardsville, IL (Vocus) February 27, 2010

Armed with tools that can help manage anger and frustration, juvenile offenders who spend time in the Madison County Detention Center in Edwardsville are finding ways to squelch bad habits and learning to live productive lives.

And, it’s in large part thanks to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (http://www. siue. edu/) students and their mentor Jeremy Jewell, an associate professor of psychology (http://www. siue. edu/education/psychology/index. shtml) in the SIUE School of Education (http://www. siue. edu/education/).

Expanding on a master’s thesis from two of his students about five years ago that studied the use of relaxation techniques among college students, Jewell decided to build a program targeting juvenile offenders within the detention center system. “I thought this was a great idea so we began to use it and in the last four years it has evolved into using undergraduates in my research class to help these kids in the detention center,” Jewell said.

“We have about six to eight students involved and we go out Monday through Friday from 3-4 p. m. and teach these skills at the Madison County detention facility.”
Jewell said he created a program of what we might call anger management techniques for those in a detention center. “We call it the Relaxation Skills Violence Prevention Program or RSVP, for short,” Jewell explained. “We see a new group of kids each week, teaching them some coping skills for when they get upset with their friends or their parents.

“They can use these skills while in the detention center or for when they leave. We teach them to do more than act out—screaming, cursing, running away or punching someone—when they get angry.”

Although using anger management and relaxation skills to help cope is not new, what makes Jewell’s program unique is that it’s built around five days of sessions because of the short amount of time that a juvenile offender is kept at the center. “There are three specific techniques,” he said: deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and also guided imagery. The kids can use these when they get angry at a teacher, in the home, or elsewhere.

“The idea is to have them practice these techniques, then review the techniques and then we encourage them to use their new skills when they get on the outside and for the rest of their lives.”

Jewell said the age range of those in the detention center generally is 10-17. “Most of them are having trouble in the home, or at school; some are in alternative schools, some are chronically truant, some are trying to get their GED,” Jewell pointed out. “And, some of these kids are accused of a range of offenses, from shoplifting to domestic battery to murder.”

According to Jewell’s research, there is no other program published—either in the mass market or in the world—written specifically about using these skills with juvenile offenders in juvenile detention. “This is a unique population which almost always circulates every 30 days,” Jewell said.

“There are long-term programs about dealing with juvenile offenders but nothing specifically aimed at the juvenile detention center setting. This is the only kind of program in the country that I have been able to find.”

One of Jewell’s students who helps at the detention center, T. Allison Lawler, says she has grown personally because of her involvement in the program. “I have become not only a different person but I’ve also become a better and more appreciative person,” Lawler said. “After hearing some of the stories the kids share, it made me realize how good I had it growing up and how good I still have it.

“I also thank God every day for making me a very open-minded and empathetic person because this helps me work well with the juveniles.”

Lawler said that when she first started the program at the center, she believed the juvenile offenders were “dangerous” and “bad” but the first session with them allayed her worst fears. “I realized that these were just kids who made a few bad decisions,” she said. “Every day I work with them, I learn more about life and I am more and more thankful for what I have in life. I’m also thankful to SIUE for making this possible.”

Jewell said RSVP seems to be working but he’s in the process of writing a federal grant to help better track the results of the program. “We have found in the past four years that the students who go through the program, compared with those who are waiting to enter the program, tend to be less stressed, anxious and fearful.
“We seem to have had a very significant impact on their feelings about being fearful and anxious, and their abilities to manage their anger.”

Statement of Need:
Regularly scheduled, standardized, quantitative measurement of disease status is widely recognized as essential to improving chronic disease management and outcomes. Optimal therapeutic decisions depend on and are driven by such measurement. The management of inflammatory arthritis is a complex matrix of managing symptoms with risk not only associated with disease progression, but also with complications that arise from drug therapy and various comorbidities. Patients can present with hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer, and an increased susceptibility for infection. The epidemiology and natural history of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) support early, aggressive treatment to reduce joint damage and functional decline. However, early treatment of RA requires timely referrals and improved communication between rheumatology and primary care. Patient education has become an integral part of the therapeutic approach to helping patients with RA to self-manage their arthritis. A variety of evidence indicates that educational attainment is associated with better disease outcomes in RA. In this series of case vignettes, the faculty will address the issues facing rheumatologists and their patients in achieving improved outcomes in the management of RA.

Series Goal:
To increase awareness and recognition of gaps in knowledge related to the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis, the development of treatment strategies, and the integration of patient education to improve patient outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
Part 1: Identify key indications for the use of biologics; Utilize performance measures and assessment tools to assess disease status in patients undergoing anti-TNF therapy.
Part 2: Consider tactics for optimization of drug therapy and implications for susceptibility to infection; Recognize the importance of consistent patient follow-up, disease measurement, knowledge of appropriate vaccination schedules, and vigilance with regard to toxicities associated with biologic therapy of RA.
Part 3: Ascertain an accurate diagnosis of early rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and recognize the impact of inadequate treatment of RA; Compare and contrast treatment options and discern the need for aggressive DMARD and biologic use.
Part 4: Recognize potential adverse events associated with pharmacologic therapy of RA, and complications attributed to common comorbidities; Consider rationale for changes in therapy and value of consultation with other specialties for enhanced treatment management.

Target Audience:
Rheumatologists, pain specialists, primary care physicians, and any clinical healthcare professional interested in the management of rheumatoid arthritis.

Financial Support:
This activity is supported by an educational donation provided by Amgen and by an independent educational grant from Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

Canadian Couple Goes to Cuba for Her Orthopedic Surgery, but Instead They Both Are Treated

Canadian Couple Goes to Cuba for Her Orthopedic Surgery, but Instead They Both Are Treated

Diane Paul, a Halifax woman, departed Canada on Oct. 14 to go to Cuba for a double-knee replacement, and her husband, Vern, joined her to provide moral support. She went to Cuba because she knew the country had outstanding quality health care, and she wanted to avoid a one-year wait for the procedure in Canada. Surprisingly, both Diane and Vern were treated in Cuba. Diane needed a less serious treatment than expected. And, once in Cuba, Vern decided to have cosmetic surgery.

Halifax, NS, Canada (PRWEB) October 28, 2007

A Canadian couple, Vern and Diane Paul went to Cuba for her double-knee replacement, but instead they both were operated on there.

The Pauls departed Halifax for Havana on Oct. 14th for what they assumed would be a double-knee replacement for Diane. However, her Cuban doctors at Havana's Cira Garcia hospital determined that she didn't require a complete knee replacement. Instead, they treated her legs with massage therapy, drained water from her knees and realigned her leg, including surgery to attach small bolts to her knees. They also did a nutritional analysis and developed an improved diet for her to help her to lose weight to alleviate her knee pain. She will continue a physiotherapy regimen to continue to improve her condition.

And, her husband Vern, who accompanied her for moral support, was so impressed with the hospital and the high quality of care that he decided to have surgery, too. He had cosmetic surgery (called "blepharoplasty") to remove the bags under his eyes.

Reached by phone in Havana, Diane said, "Everything is wonderful. My God, it is absolutely amazing the outstanding care that I am receiving. The doctors and nurses are so caring and attentive, it's like nothing I have ever seen before."

Diane, 57, who had been in constant serious pain for years from her condition, added, "The only pain that I have now is a slight pain in my kneecap, but my doctors tell me that they will go away soon. I felt good enough that I went out to see Old Havana yesterday."

Her husband is equally pleased.

"Our treatment has gone beautifully, absolutely beautifully," Vern said.

Diane Paul, 57, went to Cuba for medical care because she would have had to endure a one-year wait to have a double-knee replacement in Canada. And, in the US, the cost would be prohibitively expensive. So, she learned about Choice Medical Services, a medical tourism firm that arranges for patients to go to Cuba to receive high quality and affordable medical care.

"Choice is thrilled for Diane and Vern that their treatments and trip went so well," said Bill Doran, CEO of Choice Medical Services. "It's so impressive that the Cuban medical professionals could save her from having a difficult and more invasive surgery, and provide Diane with an alternative and proven treatment to alleviate her prior, constant pain. And, it was a total surprise, but we were glad to schedule Vern in at the last minute for his procedure. He's coming back a 'new man' with a younger and improved look."

According to Choice, Diane's double-knee replacement would have cost about $19,000, including spending two weeks at the hospital and two weeks recovering at a Cuban oceanside resort. Instead, her completed treatment cost about $5900. And, Vern's treatment cost $1000, but would have cost four times as much in the US or Canada. His cosmetic surgery treatment is not covered by Canada's health plan.

The Pauls plan to return to their Halifax home in early November.

Winnipeg-based Choice Medical Services has served many Canadian and US patients to help them to access Cuban healthcare. Canadian patients typically want to avoid long wait times. American patients are usually uninsured and often would be unable to afford proper care if this low-cost option wasn't available. Choice will be adding other international destinations soon. To learn more, visit their website at www. choicemedicalservices. com or call toll-free 1-866-672-8284.

ASSIGNMENT EDITOR'S NOTE:
Diane and Vern Paul are available for interviews upon their return to Halifax.
