Foot Solutions Reaches 200

Foot Solutions Reaches 200

Retailer specializing in solutions for the feet opens 200th location with store in Australia. Also opens 37,000 square foot Retail Center facility in Marietta, GA with complete on-site lab.

Marietta, GA (PRWEB) October 9, 2006

With baby boomers ‘marching on’ longer, a retailer specializing in keeping feet healthy has reached its 200th milestone. Foot Solutions opened its 200th store at the end of September in Victoria, Australia.

Foot Solutions has a unique footing in the marketplace, falling between the comfort shoe store and a medical/orthopedic outlet. Says founder and CEO, Ray Margiano, Foot Solutions attracts a wide variety of people from all walks of life. But, he says they all come with a common goal: to improve their balance and strength and to improve the care of their feet.

“We are so accustomed to looking at shoes as a fashion accessory that we overlook the incredible impact they have on our feet and health,” adds Margiano. “Shoes should be more than covering for your feet. They should provide support, balance and protection.”

The human foot is often called “the mirror of health,” and with more than a quarter of the body’s bones located just below the ankle, there is a lot resting on heel to toe. A survey by the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) predicts that nearly half of Americans will experience a foot ailment at some point in their lives. And APMA adds that many older Americans are likely wearing the incorrect shoe size. “Getting the right shoe with the right fit is critical,” says Margiano.

Footwear is a long term interest for Margiano. He founded the Heel Quik shoe repair and shoe modification services franchise in 1984 which grew to more than 700 stores in 34 countries. Margiano worked on the Foot Solutions concept for several years before opening the first store in 2000. While each retail location carries a wide array of footwear, Margiano emphasizes that Foot Solutions isn’t a traditional shoe store. “Our focus is on providing our customers with solutions whether it falls in a shoe, sock or custom orthotic. Our associates spend time getting to know your feet, including a computerized foot scan which maps out the curves and bumps that make up the individual foot.”

To provide the customized service in creating orthotics, Foot Solutions uses internal resources. Margiano has created a service facilities center to provide his retailers with product as well as the customized orthotics. And as the chain continues its growth, so too will the service center. Later this month, Margiano plans to open a new 37,000 square foot World Headquarters and Retail Center facility in Marietta.

“This new facility will have a complete on-site lab and Modifications Center providing foot mapping, gait analysis and comparisons for athletes,” adds Margiano. “Our name says it all when it comes to our focus.” The innovative computer technology being added has been used in the Olympics and by sports teams worldwide. Using a video camera and special computer programs, the technology allows the Foot Solutions staff to video the client while he walks, jogs or runs on a treadmill. While reviewing the video and using this unique software, the Foot Solutions trained pedorthist can determine the type of gait the client exhibits. The video of the unbalanced foot can be overlaid and then compared with a balanced foot.

“This technology can be used by our professional staff to look for limb length problems, gait abnormalities coming from the foot, ankle, knee or hip,” says Margiano. “It enables our pedorthic department to construct an orthotic, do special shoe modifications or do a combination of both, providing true foot solutions for our customers.”

Margiano adds Foot Solutions hopes to use this technology and more to optimize the approach used to help customers achieve a more comfortable life style, improved performance, reduced risk or injury, and help reduce recovery time for athletes. The technology will also be used to teach all Foot Solutions franchisees to recognize foot and leg problems and when necessary refer the client for specialized medical care.

The 200th store in Australia is a first for that country, but Margiano says 20 additional stores are planned for the area. And in the U. S., Foot Solutions is currently opening 4 - 6 stores per month and has commitments from 4 other countries for continued International expansion. “The average person takes more than 8,000 steps a day which can add up over a lifetime. Add in factors such as our longer life span, weight issues, jobs which keep you standing, and fashion which keeps many women on their toes, and it is not difficult to see the need for solutions to help our feet.”

FOOT SOLUTIONS is a privately owned international company based in Atlanta, Georgia; USA. FOOT SOLUTIONS is the only retailer where scientifically trained fit-experts properly fit each foot with products specifically designed to accommodate your feet and alleviate and prevent foot problems. Natural Degreaser Hopes to Help Eliminate Household Poisonings and Make the Home Safer for Children and Pets

Natural Degreaser Hopes to Help Eliminate Household Poisonings and Make the Home Safer for Children and Pets

Toxic chemicals found in many household cleaners are dangerous to family and pets. A new natural biodegradable degreaser hopes to eliminate that problem. It has won the approval of the U. S. Naval Center for Environmental Health.

Dallas, Texas (Vocus) January 28, 2009

Bio Cleaner and Degreaser has just been released to the public, and it is being marketed as a natural solution for household cleaning products. Those who use this product can get rid of toxic chemicals in their home and instead use the cleaner and degreaser, which is made from processed extracts of natural plants.

EcoRadiant Technology (www. ecoradianttechnology. com) has just released their Bio Cleanser and Degreaser. This product has received the seal of approval from the EPA, which classified the product as readily biodegradable.

The state of California also praised the cleaner. The state certified the product as a clean air solvent, and the degreaser also did very well when put to the test against federal cleaning standards. By being proven 105% effective, the product proved it was more than just an eco friendly product. It was also a product that could get the job done.

The U. S. Naval Center for Environmental Health gave the product its most prestigious honor. With 300 products in the running, the Naval Center declared the Bio Cleanser and Degreaser (http://www. ecoradianttechnology. com/) was the product of choice. This decision was made after looking at the effectiveness, biodegradability, and sailor safety.

The product has been deemed as strong enough to clean hard to clean items, but still gentle enough to not cause harm when people come in contact with it. Because it does not consist of any chemicals, it does not harm the skin like other cleaners do.

In addition, it is not responsible for headaches and coughs like some other cleaners are. Cleaners that have a high concentration of chemicals often cause side effects for those who are in close proximity. That does not happen with this product because there are not any chemical fumes that come from the product. It does not act as an irritant because there are not any harmful fumes that are in the air when the product is used.

In the last several years, there has been an outcry about the dangers of cleaning supplies in the home. Many chemicals can be deadly if swallowed by children, which made many homes incredibly dangerous. EcoRadiant Technology is especially pleased by the fact their products are safe for children, so there is no fear of poisoning.

Also, the products are safe for pets, and they can be disposed of down the drain if the homeowner wishes. The product will not harm the septic tank or the environment if dumped out.

Those interested in purchasing the product or getting additional information can visit www. ecoradianttechnology. com.

EcoRadiant Technology has a large inventory of eco friendly products. The company is known not only for its dedication to the environment, but also for its dedication to finding new solutions. The company explores technology in order to find products that will work while maintaining their eco friendly status. Because of their dedication to the environment and technology, they now offer a wide variety of products in many different categories.

They offer household supplies, as well as supplies for vehicles and plants. Supplies can be purchased on their website or through a distributor.

Standing Up for Workplace Wellness, a New Year’s Resolution We Can All Live With

Standing Up for Workplace Wellness, a New Year’s Resolution We Can All Live With

New White Paper to Help Raise Awareness of Dangers of Sitting Disease

St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) January 18, 2011

Ergotron, a global leader in ergonomic computer mounting and mobility products, has just released its latest White Paper, “Standing Up for Workplace Wellness.” Its purpose is to shed light on a common challenge global businesses face in creating an environment that encourages a healthy workforce, namely, the mitigation of sedentary behavior. The White Paper was written in response to conclusions made by several research studies, including the American Cancer Society, that urge public education about the risks associated with sitting too much. By encouraging something as simple as standing in the corporate environment, companies and employees reap the many benefits associated with increased movement, including stronger bones and muscles, more balanced metabolism and even better concentration and creativity.

“For many years, office work in general, and computer work in particular, has inexorably been associated with the sitting posture,” says Carrie Schmitz, author of the paper and Ergotron’s office ergonomics consultant and engineering publications manager. “We are in a point at time when mobile computing devices, in combination with the new scientific understanding of inactivity physiology, make it possible for us to abandon obsolete work habits.”

Recent research conducted by Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of Ergotron revealed that full-time employees of large companies in the United States spend on average two-thirds of their working hours in a seated position and further, that 67% of this group wish their employers offered them desks that could be adjusted so they could work either sitting or standing.

“Innovative computer support equipment like the sit-stand, height-adjustable workstations that Ergotron manufactures will directly impact the health of modern knowledge workers the world over,” said Schmitz, “and do offer companies of any size and scope a realistic opportunity to create their own, more healthy work environments.”

The “Standing Up for Workplace Wellness” White Paper is now available for download at http://research. juststand. org and online at http://www. ergotron. com. To learn more about Ergotron’s Just Stand Uprising, which challenges the global workforce to alternate sitting and standing at their computers throughout day, visit http://juststand. org. Metaphysical Workbook Encourages Girls to Embrace and Expand Inner Greatness

Robin Marvel wants girls to marvel over themselves. In her new metaphysical guidebook, she teaches girls to awaken their inner consciousnesses, explore their spiritual abilities, create positive self-images, and find their own purposes in life.

Ann Arbor, MI (PRWEB) February 16, 2009

Girl Power has a new champion. Parents who wish to empower their daughters by teaching them to seek their inner self-knowledge will find no better gift than Robin Marvel's new book "Awakening Consciousness: A Girl's Guide!" (ISBN 9781932690804, Loving Healing Press, 2008).

Robin Marvel wants girls to learn self-reliance and awaken to their inner greatness. In "Awakening Consciousness: A Girl's Guide!" she has written a book for all ages that will help girls embrace their spiritual sides and grow along their own chosen paths. Marvel says of her book: "The awareness I am offering to readers is a self-awareness. I think it is very important for individuals to be just that--individual. It is easy to follow the norm and forget who you are. In 'Awakening Consciousness,' I encourage readers to be true to who they are and realize the difference they are making each day. Most importantly, I want people to love and honor themselves."

The fun hands-on exercises in this motivating, easy to use workbook are for girls of all ages and will encourage exploration into Universal Awareness. Spiritual exercises in the book will teach girls to:
Exercise their seven chakras  Learn about crystals  Discover how to keep a healthy aura  Explore their inner selves  Practice learning the pendulum  Practice aromatherapy with fun, easy-to-do crafts  Create their own futures

Girls who read this book will discover more self-esteem, be less likely to give into peer pressure, and more positive about their own abilities. They will learn useful skills to help them cope with life's difficulties, and most importantly, they will be encouraged to create their own futures, becoming clear about their goals and how to remain on the individual paths correct for them as each one awakens to her own consciousness.

Critics are raving that "Awakening Consciousness" is long overdue. Irene Watson, author of "The Sitting Swing" proclaims: "Packed with valuable information, 'Awakening Consciousness' lives up to the claim of being the only workbook available for young girls on this topic. I recommend it to any teen looking to find the consciousness within and get in touch with her own purpose in life." Kelly Wallace, author of "10 Minutes a Day to a Powerful New Life!" declares, "With 'Awakening Consciousness: A Girl's Guide' workbook, children will have a wonderful time exploring their spiritual side. In fact, I believe adults would enjoy it too!" And Tami Brady, author of "The Complete Being" confirms, "I wish I had been given 'Awakening Consciousness' when I was a kid. These fun exercises and activities teach children the skills for loving themselves wholeheartedly and making healthy choices in their daily lives."

Biophan and Siemens AG Announce a Declaration of Intent for Strategic Collaboration on Advanced Interventional MRI Technology

Biophan and Siemens AG Announce a Declaration of Intent for Strategic Collaboration on Advanced Interventional MRI Technology

Biophan-Europe to enter into negotiations for a joint R&D agreement with Siemens Medical Solutions MRI division

Flemington, NJ (PRWEB) April 1, 2006

Biophan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BIPH - News; FWB: BTN), a developer of next-generation medical technology, announced today a declaration of intent to enter into negotiations for a strategic research collaboration between Siemens' Medical Solutions MRI Division in Europe and Biophan Europe GmbH, designed to provide new solutions in the growing field of interventional MRI medicine and MRI-assisted minimally invasive surgeries.

The anticipated collaboration follows discussions between senior officers of the two companies to further develop and commercialize potentially complementary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologies. Biophan Europe is emerging as a major force of innovative solutions to enable effective MRI visualization of implanted medical devices, including heart valves, coronary and peripheral stents and vena cava filters.

Siemens' MRI Division, in turn, has developed a new MRI scanning technology with aperture configurations that could be highly complementary to Biophan's research and development program in this area, according to Dr. Michael Friebe, CEO of Biophan-Europe.

"Siemens new 1.5 Tesla Open Bore MR MAGNETOM Espree with Tim technology, with its wide aperture, will be ideally suited for MRI-related interventional procedures, combined with our own expertise under Chief Technology Officer Dr. Andreas Melzer in positioning and interventional support hardware form a solid foundation for partnership and further joint development of medically needed MRI scanning solutions," Dr. Friebe said.

Currently, many implantable and surgical devices comprised of metallic elements are contraindicated for use with MRI due to their potential undesirable interactions with the powerful electromagnetic fields generated by MRI systems. To extend MRI to patients with implantable devices, who currently are denied access to MRI visualization, Biophan has developed a variety of proprietary technologies to enable MR imaging to visualize the interiors of stents and other implants, and to enable the MRI-guided implantation of devices.

"This exciting opportunity for Biophan to collaborate with Siemens marks another milestone in Biophan's growing technological and marketplace leadership," said Michael Weiner, CEO of Biophan Technologies. "We're excited about this opportunity to work with a company of Siemens' well-recognized leadership in medical imaging."

Date Announced for 2nd Annual Tybee Island Music and Seafood Festival

Date Announced for 2nd Annual Tybee Island Music and Seafood Festival

The 2nd Annual Tybee Island Music and Seafood Festival, presented by Budweiser, will be held on August 27th and 28th on Tybee Island, Georgia. Last yearÂ’s festival drew over 10,000 patrons to the natural beauty of Tybee Island, Georgia, who were entertained by some of the SouthÂ’s greatest musical talent.

(PRWEB) June 5, 2004

The 2nd Annual Tybee Island Music and Seafood Festival, presented by Budweiser, will be held on August 27th and 28th on Tybee Island, Georgia. The event features 12 bands over two days, and offers a wide variety of music. Last yearÂ’s inaugural event drew over 10,000 patrons through the festival gates, where they were entertained by some of the SouthÂ’s greatest musical talent. In addition, revelers tasted some of coastal GeorgiaÂ’s favorite foods.

The festival kicks off on Friday evening with “Party Night”, with one of Savannah’s favorite acts, Liquid Ginger. They are followed with “The Party Band of The South”, the legendary Swingin’ Medallions.

The party continues Saturday afternoon with one of Georgia’s great summer traditions – the “Beach Party”. A1A sets the mood for a day on the Tybee beaches with the island sounds of Jimmy Buffett. Following A1A is the famed Clarence Carter, the Tams, and the Swingin’ Medallions. This year, the Beach Party will feature a very special appearance by members of the ORIGINAL Swingin’ Medallions.

Saturday night the festival turns country with “Boots on the Beach”. This evening segment is packed with great music, and was very popular at last year’s event. Georgia’s own Kinchafoonee Cowboys kick off the evening. Afterward, Blue County will take the stage as the weekend’s headline act. Direct from Nashville, Blue County’s first single, “Good Little Girls”, held a place on Billboard’s Top 25 country charts for a good part of 2004. The group’s first album is scheduled for release later this year. And, of course, the weekend can only end with the traditional final “party set” by the Swingin’ Medallions.

The Tybee Island Music and Seafood Festival, which debuted only last year, has captured a special place in the hearts of it’s supporters. Produced by Sounds of the South Productions, this one-of-a-kind event offers something for everyone – a variety of music for all ages, great food, and the beauty of one of Georgia’s natural treasures, Tybee Island. The island offers visitors beautiful beaches, rich history, wonderful restaurants, and all types of accommodations. For more information about Tybee Island, please visit www. TybeeOnline. com.

Jack Boylston, Past Chairman of the Tybee Island Tourism Board, reflected on last year’s festival, saying, “We weren’t sure what to expect the first year. But we drew a huge crowd and the venue worked perfectly. The entire city was pleased with every aspect of the event. We expect even more visitors this year so we will be enhancing our parking and shuttle setup to accommodate the numbers. We look forward to again sharing our island with those people seeking some great fun and wonderful music in the Tybee sun”.

Sponsors of the event to date include Budweiser, the City of Tybee Island, Coca-Cola, Nesmith Chevrolet, Memorial Health, The Savannah Bank, Beachside Colony, Comcast, The Savannah Music Festival, The Savannah Morning News, WTOC TV, and Adventure Radio.

Tickets for the Tybee Island Music and Seafood Festival can be purchased by calling the Savannah Civic CenterÂ’s box office at 1-800-351-7469.

A limited amount of advance tickets will go on sale July 1st. A 2-Day ticket for the entire festival will be $26. Advance tickets for Friday night are priced at $10, all day Saturday is $18, and Saturday night only is $12.

Tickets will also be available at the gate, and are priced at $12 for Friday night, $22 for all day Saturday, and $15 for Saturday night only.

Volcano Vaporizer Becomes Top Selling Vaporizer at GotVape. com

The Volcano Vaporizer has rose to the #1 sales slot at GotVape. com, headquarters to the world's finest vaporizers and tobacco smoking cessation devices.

(PRWEB) May 19, 2005

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 19, 2005 – (www. gotvape. com) GotVape. com announced today at its annual shareholders meeting that the Volcano Vaporizer (http://www. gotvape. com/store/Volcano_Vaporizer. html (http://www. gotvape. com/store/Volcano_Vaporizer. html)) has quietly become one of the companies biggest selling products. "I think a large part of GotVape. com’s success with the Volcano Vaporizer has come through it's acceptance in the aromatherapy and alternative medical community," says Reggie Bell, M. D.

The Volcano Vaporizer is a hand-crafted medical grade vaporizer imported from Tuttlingen, a small German community, internationally regarded as one of the epicenters of medical manufacturing. The temperature flow regulatory systems that the Volcano Vaporizer has, enables it to deliver consistent results via its patented Balloon-Valve system.

Vaporizing has grown in popularity and is now being used in holistic health care centers as a viable alternative treatment for debilitating illnesses. "With the Volcano Vaporizer at the forefront and continued accredited research along with federal studies, we would definitely like to see a greater acceptance by medical professionals of the product," says William Vicary, M. D.

Exceeding projected sales of the product by 36%, the Volcano Vaporizer has proven to be what educated vaporizer users are opting for. Since introducing the Low Price Guarantee earlier this year, GotVape. com has become one of the worldÂ’s largest distributors of the Volcano Vaporizer.

Representatives from both Gotvape. com and Storz-Bickel (manufacturers of the Volcano Vaporizer) met in Storz-BickelÂ’s US headquarters earlier this month to discuss new developments of the Volcano Vaporizer and of possible co-branded items in the near future.

University of Georgia Researchers to Timberland Owners: Improve Forest Inventories or Risk Losing Billions in Timber Value

University of Georgia Researchers to Timberland Owners: Improve Forest Inventories or Risk Losing Billions in Timber Value

Researchers at the University of Georgia’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources (Warnell) say that inaccurate forest inventories can be causing timberland owners to lose some $70 an acre, according to a study published today in the Canadian Journal of Forest Research.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (PRWEB) July 22, 2008

"With some 350 million U. S. timberland acres in private hands, even a small portion of poorly managed and inaccurately assessed acreage could amount to tens of millions, if not billions, of dollars in diminished value," said Bruce Borders, Ph. D., the author of "The value of timber inventory information for management planning."

Dr. Borders said that his research team undertook a large simulation study to evaluate current timber-inventory methods, focusing on the usefulness of stand level (defined as 50 to 100 acres of timberland whose trees share similar characteristics) inventory data typical of a commercial forest owner in the southern United States.

"Our findings indicate that, with current methodology, timber management organizations that view collecting inventory data as a cost to be minimized are producing management plans that fail to maximize the profitability of their holdings," Dr. Borders said. "Our study indicates that it is likely that they are experiencing expected losses in net present value (NPV) of close to $70 an acre on a large proportion of the acreage found on typical plantation timberland parcels in the southern United States."

A recognized specialist in forest management, biometrics and mensuration (the process of determining dimensions, quantity or capacity), Dr. Borders explained that, typically, only about one to three percent of a forest is actually sampled through field cruises, during which foresters manually record the diameter, height, species, product and grade of a small sample of trees. Then appropriate sample expansion techniques are used to estimate the composition and value of an entire forest.

"By its nature, this method is costly in human and financial resources and produces imprecise results at the stand level with sampling errors of 25 percent or greater," he continued.

"We showed what can happen to decisions about thinning and harvesting when foresters and owners rely on imprecise stand data. Basically, their management plans do not accurately reflect the condition of standing timber, so they cannot achieve an accurate assessment of its worth, or the maximum return on their investment through development of optimal management regimes," he said.

"Today, with new technology, it is possible to have real-time data about the location, dimensions and health of trees, all of which lead to more-informed decisions about forest management and investment," Dr. Borders noted. "The methodology we used in this study can help improve timberland management by showing the effects of precise inventory data at the stand level."

Warnell researchers assisting Dr. Borders in the research were Dr. Michael Clutter, Warnell's dean; William Harrison, forest biometrician; and Dr. Barry Shiver, professor emeritus. Also assisting was Dr. Ray Souter, research forester, USDA Forest Service in Stoneville, Miss. Borders noted that ImageTree commissioned the report.

Select report highlights:

Although foresters differentiate timber inventory information used for management planning from that used for timber sales, it is the high-sampling-error "management cruise" (25% error or greater at the stand level) that is applied to help guide management decisions. Timber inventory data should not be viewed as a cost center but rather as a vital asset, crucial for maximizing timberland value; improved inventories will have a profound effect on forestry management and asset evaluation.   --

A company that buys acreage based on a timber inventory indicating 8,000 standing tons of stumpage valued at $40/ton when, in fact, only 6,000 tons of stumpage is present, overpays by $80,000.   --

For a hypothetical 10,000-acre forest of pine and hardwood, if stand level sampling error is reduced from 25% to 10%, the additional expected net present value (NPV) realized from the forest would be about $325,000 at a discount rate of 6% and about $537,000 at a discount rate of 4%.   Additionally, with the likelihood that overall forest management was not as effective with poor inventory practice, the actual value increase in realized returns will be substantially larger than these expected gains in NPV indicate. Timberland management organizations should reduce stand level sampling error below 15% when developing management plans to optimize financial returns. Future studies should address:   --

The effect that error in individual inventory variables has on expected NPV.   --

The effect that improperly timed and missed silviculture (care and cultivation) and harvest decisions can have upon expected NPV when based upon faulty inventory information. Cypress Communications EVP to Speak on Cloud Communications and Virtualization at ITEXPO East 2010 in Miami

Frank Grillo will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of cloud services and outline a path to virtualization, including Unified Communications as a Service.

Atlanta, GA (Vocus) December 11, 2009 -–

Cypress Communications® today announced that its Executive Vice President of Marketing, Frank Grillo, has accepted an invitation to speak at TMC’s ITEXPO East 2010, held January 20-22 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. In a session entitled “Unified Communications and the Virtualized Enterprise,” Mr. Grillo will discuss the paradigm shift from premises-based technologies to “as a service” solutions, also known as cloud services. The session will take place on January 21 at 8:30 a. m.

“Leveraging the cloud enables companies to avoid making capital investments in quickly evolving technologies and alleviates the need to hire specialized staff to manage new solutions, which can help them create state-of-the-art environments while freeing up substantial resources,” said Mr. Grillo. “Especially in the small-to-medium enterprise (SME) segment, companies can utilize cloud services to lower costs, drive strategic business improvements and increase productivity.”

Cloud services have emerged as the newest way to maintain service levels and deliver value while reducing costs, but the array of choices makes the path to virtualization daunting. Mr. Grillo will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of cloud services and outline a path to virtualization that starts with Unified Communications as a Service and concludes with how infrastructure, applications and servers can be accessed through the cloud to create a cost-effective and powerful configuration.

Mr. Grillo is a frequent speaker on the technology and telecom circuits and has extensive experience educating C-level executives and IT decision makers on emerging trends in IP communications. His extensive career in the telecommunications industry and executive direction of product design, marketing, sales and customer service for the Cypress cloud solution, C4 IP®, has provided him with the breadth of experience and depth of knowledge necessary for delivering captivating and informative presentations. C4 IP enables SMEs to benefit from array of advanced communication features such as soft phones, Microsoft® Outlook integration, unified messaging, chat, call routing, presence, file sharing, and audio, video and web conferencing—while saving money.

“Frank Grillo’s participation at ITEXPO exemplifies why this show is widely recognized as the #1 venue where service providers, enterprises, government agencies, resellers, and developers gather to learn about the benefits inherent in IP Communications products and services,” said Rich Tehrani, TMC Chief Executive Officer. “The evolution in this industry has been monumental and it still continues to grow, outpacing other economic sectors. We are pleased to have Mr. Grillo as an innovative participant.”

ITEXPO, going into its 11th year, is the world’s largest and best-attended IP Communications trade show, drawing an average attendance of 7,000 buyers and sellers of IP Communications products and services. Registration for the show is now open. Anyone interested may register by visiting http://www. itexpo. com.

Abatement Technologies Sees Strong Demand as Hospitals Prepare for Stage 6 Flu Pandemic

Abatement Technologies Sees Strong Demand as Hospitals Prepare for Stage 6 Flu Pandemic

Abatement Technologies®, Inc. sees strong demand for their HEPA-CARE® Air Filtration Systems and Germicidal UV Modules as healthcare facilities activate their emergency pandemic preparedness plans.

Suwanee, Georgia (PRWEB) July 9, 2009

Abatement Technologies®, Inc. sees strong demand for their HEPA-CARE® Air Filtration Systems and Germicidal UV Modules from healthcare facilities as they activate their emergency pandemic preparedness plans.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a worldwide Stage 6 H1N1 Swine Flu Pandemic could cause a massive surge of patients to hospitals and healthcare facilities. Margaret Chan, director-general of the WHO states that, "All countries should immediately activate their pandemic preparedness plans."

Airborne Infection Isolation Rooms (AIIR)

CDC regulations state that effective and essential pandemic preparedness and response measures include the capacity to isolate infectious patients in a negative pressure Airborne Infectious Isolation Room environment. Abatement Technologies HEPA-CARE Air Purification Systems are used today in more than 5,000 hospitals and medical facilities around the world to convert almost any space into CDC-compliant negative pressure Airborne Infectious Isolation Rooms (http://www. abatement. com/healthcare/patient_care_surge. htm).

High efficiency HEPA-CARE Systems use special HEPA filters to remove deadly, infectious airborne pathogens from the air. According to independent testing, these systems can capture or inactivate more than 99.99% of the 0.3-micron size (0.000012-inch) organisms that pass through them.

Portable HEPA-CARE models (http://www. abatement. com/healthcare/patient_care_areas. htm#hc800f) roll quietly to wherever they are needed at a moments notice. Used for days, weeks or months at a time, these highly mobile units provide the greatest flexibility for increasing surge isolation capacity quickly, and in the most cost-effective manner.

Ceiling-mounted HEPA-CARE models (http://www. abatement. com/healthcare/patient_care_areas. htm#hc800c) install into the ceiling grid. Because they are completely out of the way of patients and staff and controls can be located remotely, ceiling-mounted models are the perfect choice for permanent or longer term patient isolation.

Mass Patient Isolation

In addition, Abatement Technologies offers effective solutions for temporarily isolating even larger numbers of patients in a large, short-term isolation ward. This is achieved by using the equipment to convert or reconfigure an on-site flat space such as a wing, a large corridor, or a conference room, or an off-site area such as a gymnasium or mobile tent system.

Abatement Temporary Anterooms

Abatement Technologies also offers two alternative solutions for creating a temporary transition space, or anteroom, as a buffer area between common spaces and patient isolation areas: ANTE UP® Inflatable Emergency Anteroom and the AIRE GUARDIAN® AR Modular Anteroom. (http://www. abatement. com/healthcare/patient_care_areas. htm#anteup) Both can be negatively or positively pressurized as needed, to control the direction of airflow and further protect other patients and hospital personnel.

Germicidal UV-C Disinfection Modules

Equipped with four powerful UV-C lamps, Abatement Technologies HEPA-CARE Germicidal UV Disinfection Modules (http://www. abatement. com/healthcare/patient_care_areas. htm#germicidal) irradiate, disinfect and kill dangerous infectious pathogens. Each module generates 156 watts of germicidal UV energy to clean and sterilize the air.

Testing and Certification by Independent National Laboratories

Abatement Technologies HEPA filters are tested and certified for performance specifications in accordance with Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology IEST-RP-CC001.3 and MIL-STD 282. HEPA-CARE true 99.99% HEPA filters are constructed with extruded anodized aluminum frames, have a UL900 Class I flammability rating, and meet IEST and MIL standards, including 100% efficiency testing. The unique silicone gel seal provides a more secure, bypass-free seal than other designs.

About Abatement Technologies
Protecting patients and staff from potentially hazardous airborne particles is a crucial component of the infection control program for every medical facility. Abatement Technologies has led the way with innovative and effective infection-control solutions since 1986.

Contact Abatement Technologies for additional information on their state-of-the-art Products for Healthcare Facilities to create patient isolation rooms and provide isolation surge capacity.

Gleneagles Resort in Scotland Launches Signature Health Spa Treatment

Gleneagles luxury hotel has just added a new signature treatment "The Source" to their collection of spa experiences. The relaxing treatment by ESPA can be enjoyed at one of Scotland's finest resorts.

(PRWEB) December 11, 2009

The award-winning Health Spa at Gleneagles® in Scotland by ESPA is delighted to announce the launch of their signature treatment The Source, which uses local ingredients from the fresh waters and rolling hills of Perthshire.

A revitalizing and rebalancing holistic experience, the spa treatment (http://www. gleneagles. com/spa/treatments? utm_source=prweb&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=the_source) begins with a calming footbath in which local, river-washed stones are used to stimulate reflex points on the feet. A full body exfoliation follows, preparing the body for a deeper level of relaxation. Tired muscles are then warmed using a muslin-wrapped herbal poultice made of lavender, rosemary, oats and elderflower gathered from the surrounding countryside. The ritual continues with a purifying body massage, and concludes with a tension relieving scalp massage.

For a bit of serenity to take home, the spa has also introduced a bespoke, aromatic ESPA candle, which is available exclusively at Gleneagles. With approximately 50 hours burning time, the therapeutic aroma of Frankincense, Orange, Cedarwood, Patchouli and zesty Sicilian lemon calms the mind and uplifts the senses.

The ESPA day spa (http://www. gleneagles. com/spa/day-spa-rituals? utm_source=prweb&utm_medium=article&utm_campaign=the_source) at Gleneagles Hotel, Scotland is not dominated by one single element but a fusion of many. Deep within the ESPA philosophy is the determination to combine the best of ancient and modern therapies with the finest quality ingredients and skin care advances.

Visit of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Mia Farrow to the Central African Republic

Visit of UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Mia Farrow to the Central African Republic

'The people of the Central African Republic are living in Fear.'

Angui (PRWEB) May 24, 2008

The threat of kidnappings, rape and killings are an everyday part of life for people living in the Central African Republic according to the UNICEF Goodwill ambassador Mia Farrow, who has just completed a week long visit to the country.

Along with the agency's Regional Director, Dr Esther Guluma, Ms Farrow was able to speak to victims of highway bandits, military raids and forced displacement. Amongst those seen were women who had suffered multiple rapes and children who had been kidnapped for ransom and held for two years in the bush.

Both women visited the country last year and the latest mission was intended to follow up on what they describe as a 'complex humanitarian emergency'. UNICEF has since launched multiple programmes in the north of the country where some three hundred thousand people have fled their homes because of insecurity. On one of the few major arterial roads in the region Mia Farrow and Dr Guluma were told that 1,100 women and girls as young as four have raped on the route in the past year. Most cases are never reported.

The Central African Republic is one of the poorest countries in the world and one in five children does not reach their fifth birthday. Government spending on health and education is less than 1.5% of GDP for each, and this is well below African averages.

Ms Farrow noted that many of the people they encountered were living without access to clean water or medicines, but were still trying to make sure that children went to 'bush schools' that give some 67,000 displaced children an education. 'The desire of parents to give their children education is inspiring,' she said. She warned that many of the people in Central Africa Republic "are living in fear' and that the highway bandits are becoming 'more powerful and terrifying more people.'

Dr Guluma called on the Government to spend more on services for people but also for international donors to start paying urgent attention to the multiple needs of the country. 'Emergencies like an earthquake are perhaps easier to understand she said, 'but I have seldom seen people so poor and in urgent need of long term help and assistance.'

The team also visited the east of the country where work has started to provide for 3000 refugees from the Darfur emergency in Sudan and to provide for a local population which has suffered from long term neglect and lack of basic services.

The Age Factor: How Age Discrimination Laws will Impact City Law Firms

The Age Factor: How Age Discrimination Laws will Impact City Law Firms

Law firms are to change due to the impact of the most significant piece of employment law in 30 years, according to research commissioned by City law firm Fox Williams among senior and managing partners of the top 100 law firms in the UK.

London, UK (PRWEB) December 13, 2006

Law firms are to change due to the impact of the most significant piece of employment law (http://www. foxwilliams. com/practiceareas/) in 30 years, according to research commissioned by City law firm Fox Williams (http://www. foxwilliams. com/) among senior and managing partners of the top 100 law firms in the UK.

The introduction of the new age discrimination act will mean that partner remuneration will become less dependent on experience and more related to partner performance. Partners of all ages could expect formal ejection from the partnership if their performance is not up to scratch.

The new age discrimination act should also result in more partners staying in law firms beyond their 50s unless a law firm can justify having a compulsory retirement age or can demonstrate inadequate performance. Firms which have paid insufficient attention to remuneration systems or retirement may find themselves at the wrong end of age discrimination claims.

The age discrimination act (http://www. foxwilliams. com/news/) will usher in a harsher, more performance driven culture among these traditional bastions of gentility and will wreak a profound cultural change that will undermine the collegiate nature of partnerships, elevating performance and productivity above the more traditional values of experience and loyalty.

Key findings of research

PQE

Two thirds of partners think that their current use of PQE (post qualification experience) for pay reviews is still justified.

On the recruitment front, three out of four law firms concede that there will have to be less emphasis on PQE in future. The age discrimination act may also affect senior lateral hires from other firms. Some considered that, without a guaranteed retirement age, they might be more reluctant to hire older laterals.

Lockstep

The lockstep system, by which partners are rewarded by length of service, is present amongst most law firms. Around half of the law firms questioned have a lockstep period of five years or less while other schemes are much longer.

Surprisingly, 24 out of 25 expect that lockstep will survive this legislation intact. The reason it will remain, say a majority of partners, is because their system is based, in part, upon performance or merit. One firm believed that lockstep was justifiable because it had obtained the partners' consent and support.

Retirement and succession planning

The majority of respondents saw the major issue of the age discrimination act as retirement age. The age discrimination act means that the imposition of a compulsory retirement age for partners will need to be justified according to very stringent criteria. The 24 out of 25 firms surveyed who admitted to having a fixed retirement age stated that it was required in order to encourage more young people to join firms.

"The only way to retain a healthy business is for partners to retire at a reasonable age so that young people will want to join. We want them scratching at the door."

Managing performance

Now that age alone can no longer be used to justify retirement or remuneration, law firms were almost unanimous in saying that they will have to make sure that they have a formal and rigorous performance appraisal system in place.

Although all but one of the firms surveyed had appraisal arrangements, over 90% of respondents said that they would need to establish a better, more formal system in future.

"We need to be more bureaucratic in how we go about our measurement of partner performance, establishing benchmarks, better documentation."

Claims

Another contentious area that the age discrimination act brings is the potential for unlimited claims against firms by disgruntled partners for breaches of the age discrimination act. This gives partners a powerful weapon that could be used to negotiate better retirement terms. When asked would partners use this weapon? 24 of our 25 interviewees said 'Yes'.

Cultural change

18 out of 25 respondents felt strongly that the new law would create unwelcome cultural change for law firms.

"Things will be less cosy. And it might weaken partner loyalty and partnership cohesion."

Background

The new age discrimination act, which came into force on October 1 2006, is having a major impact on the employment practices of legal firms and on their partnerships. It is the single most important piece of employment law in 30 years.

The Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006 make it unlawful to discriminate against employees or partners on the grounds of age. They override any agreements between the parties (including partnership agreements). Both old and young are now able to bring a claim for breach of the new legislation and the compensation that can be awarded is unlimited and could run into millions.

This sobering thought is currently concentrating legal minds, many of whom have yet to take on board these changes. This survey aims to throw light on how law firms of varying sizes are coping with the huge implications of this highly contentious body of law.

The Fox Williams survey covers:

General awareness of the provisions of the age discrimination act Impact of PQE (post qualification experience) on remuneration Attraction and retention of talent Profit sharing and lockstep Retirement and succession planning Compulsory retirement age Managing performance Claims Cultural change The US experience

Methodology

Fox Williams commissioned the Financial Times Research Centre to undertake the research among leading UK legal partnerships. The fieldwork consisted of 25 semi-structured, depth interviews, lasting around 45 minutes with senior or managing partners among the top 100 UK law firms in the UK. The telephone interviews were conducted in October 2006 by consultant-level interviewers, who found a high level of interest among senior lawyers currently grappling with the new laws.

DISCOVERY CHANNEL TOPS MAMMOTH RATINGS WITH WALKING WITH DINOSAURS

During its two Sunday telecasts--

--Discovery Channel scheduling encore presentations of Walking With Dinosaurs Thursday, April 20, from 8-11PM and 11PM-2AM--

Bethesda, MD – Discovery Channel’s three-hour special, Walking With Dinosaurs, shattered the all-time cable ratings records set last month by the network’s special, Raising the Mammoth, when Walking With Dinosaurs garnered an 8.0 household rating during its Sunday night premiere telecast, translating into average delivery of 10.7 million people. Based on preliminary numbers, nearly 40 million Americans watched some part of the special during its two telecasts Sunday night (7PM, 10PM).

The premiere telecast of Walking With Dinosaurs (7-10PM) was the most-watched, non-sporting event on cable during the 1999-2000 television season to date and was the most-watched documentary ever on cable television, beating out the records set March 12 by Discovery ChannelÂ’s Raising the Mammoth. The initial telecast of Walking With Dinosaurs also received a higher household rating than FoxÂ’s Sunday line-up and NBCÂ’s Sunday movie, The Chamber. The film delivered more children 2-11 and adults 18-49 than any program on cable Sunday night, and the film outdelivered broadcast networks CBS and NBC among adults 18-49.

The 10 PM. rebroadcast of Walking With Dinosaurs earned a 3.5 household rating, delivering more than 4 million viewers.

DiscoveryÂ’s previous highest-rated program, Raising the Mammoth, premiered on March 12, 2000, with its initial airing (8-10 PM) garnering a 7.8 household rating that translated into average viewership of 10.1 million people.

Discovery Channel has scheduled encore presentations of Walking With Dinosaurs for Thursday, April 20, from 8-11 PM and 11 PM-2 AM.

“When you combine the highest-quality programming with DiscoveryÂ’s cross-promotional muscle via our on air, online and retail platforms, we have proved we can create the kind of successful events weÂ’ve seen both with Raising the Mammoth and Walking With Dinosaurs,” said Discovery Communications President and Chief Operating Officer Judith A. McHale. “Walking With Dinosaurs was a compelling film and a shining example of our global partnership with the BBC.”

Walking with Dinosaurs has been a major, multi-platform entertainment event. In addition to the television premiere on April 16, people can visit the Discovery Channel website for a special area devoted entirely to dinosaurs; Discovery Kids, the weekend morning block on Discovery Channel, is featuring kid-based activities, sweepstakes and special programming -- both on-air and online -- and there has been a full array of Walking With Dinosaurs related products available in stores, including a four-color coffee table book published by Dorling Kindersley. Outside of the U. S., Walking with Dinosaurs premiered April 16 on the Discovery Channel in Latin America and Canada.

“Dinosaurs rule!” said Discovery Channel Executive Vice President/General Manager Mike Quattrone. “Seriously, we wanted to create a family event around this spectacular series, and by all indications, we were successful. We are very proud and pleased to have been able to do this.”

Walking With Dinosaurs, a coproduction with the BBC, depicts dinosaurs in the wild, just as if they were lions, rhinos or monkeys. One of the most ambitious television ventures ever undertaken, the three-hour special covers 155 million years of prehistory and uses advanced computer animation, state-of-the-art animatronics and the latest scientific findings to recreate the sights and sounds of dinosaurs walking the Earth.

Everest Summiteer and Entrepreneur, Alan Hobson To Speak At 2007 Quality New Mexico Conference March 8 & 9

Everest Summiteer and Entrepreneur, Alan Hobson To Speak At 2007 Quality New Mexico Conference March 8 & 9

Mt. Everest summiteer, entrepreneur, best-selling author, Alan Hobson, will speak at Quality New Mexico Conference in Albuquerque, March 8 & 9. Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Recipients Mesa Products and North Mississippi Medicall Center will outline 'best practices' on performance excellence. The focus is education and motivation about improvement for small and large business, school, government, health care, and non-profit organizations.

Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) January 12, 2007

Mount Everest summiteer, worldwide adventurer, entrepreneur, and international bestselling author, Alan Hobson, will speak at the 2007 Quality New Mexico Conference & New Mexico Quality Awards Ceremony, March 8 & 9, Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town.

The keynote address, "Triumph of Tenacity", is part of the annual Quality New Mexico conference of education and motivation about improvement and performance excellence for small and large business, education, government, health care and non-profit organizations.

Hobson's life story is a portrait in passion, persistence, and peak performance spanning four decades. The nine-time All-American gymnast, and marathon runner, set out at age 29 to realize his greatest childhood dream.

It took him 10 grueling expeditions to high altitude, a decade of intense fundraising, training, and organizational effort to attempt the summit of Mount Everest. His expeditions required millions of dollars to finance, organize, and execute; and stretched Hobson's leadership, team building, sales, and communications abilities. On the third attempt, he gazed out at the curvature of the Earth as the horizon bent in his peripheral vision at 29,035 feet.

"Half the dream is done," the then 39 year old radioed to his base camp. "If we're persistent enough, we can do the dreams."

Then, in August 2000, Hobson set out on his ultimate challenge. Diagnosed with acute leukemia and given less than a year to live he used the lessons learned on Everest. He chose to undergo a blood transplant from his brother and has been cancer free for over four years.

"My 'inner Everest' has dwarfed the outer one", he says quietly. "I see life now from a new perspective. Success isn't about height. It's about depth."

The full conference workshops and seminars are designed to educate New Mexico in performance excellence principles. Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipients from throughout the nation, Zia Award recipients from New Mexico, and performance excellence experts will detail their results and best practices in small and large business, education, government, health care, and non-profit organizations. For a complete listing of presenters, their companies and schools, and their subjects see the Quality New Mexico website.

Quality New Mexico is a 501(c)3 nonprofit membership organization with a program to educate New Mexicans about performance excellence in small and large businesses, education, government, health care, and non-profits to promote the state to realize greater economic success and achieve excellence.

In 1994, Quality New Mexico became the official administrator of the New Mexico Quality Awards. The program is patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Quality New Mexico offers education and training on the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence and offers training on becoming volunteer examiners. QNM training has been called the best in professional and organizational development training.
