Visit the Web site’s new blog to learn helpful green tips on childcare and more.

Goodwin, SD (Vocus) March 17, 2010

Three years ago Stephanie Summers gave birth to her very first child, a beautiful baby girl. And with the arrival of this new life came the innate motherly instincts to protect the innocence of her daughter; therefore, she began to research the safest and most natural baby products available.

Summers’ findings were enlightening; as it turns out, what she had originally thought to be safe was indeed not. What she did find, however, was an extensive line of natural baby products that more than satisfied her safety requirements; she promptly unveiled her findings at http://www. GreenBabyBliss. com, an online business launched in October 2008.

Here, shoppers and parents alike will find an all-natural assortment of products for babies – infants through toddlers to be exact – that include bedding, clothing, body care, toys, bottles, dishes and more. Each item has been carefully hand-selected by Summers to ensure the utmost quality and safety.

Among the Web site’s variety of organic merchandise, one collection standouts out as an often-hard-to-come-by product line: BPA-free dishes, utensils and bottles. Such products represent the essential feeding tools necessary to deliver proper nutrition to your child while eliminating the transfer of hormone-disrupting chemicals through plastics.

Keep an eye out for new merchandise as Summers will continue to update her inventory; just on the horizon is the expansion of toddler toys and cloth diapers. To learn more about the current and soon-to-be-added products available at GreenBabyBliss. com, shoppers are encouraged to visit the Web site’s new blog, http://www. GreenBabyForum. com. Massachusetts Medical Society urges caution, common sense this flu season

Massachusetts Medical Society urges caution, common sense this flu season

Basic health habits - “Healthy Hygiene, Cough Control, Prudent Parenting, and Selective Sharing -- can help protect you and your family against illness” this flu season

Waltham, MA (PRWEB) December 14, 2003

With a shortage of vaccine and as fears rise among people with what is likely to be a severe flu season in the Commonwealth, the Massachusetts Medical Society today urged Bay State citizens to use “caution and common sense” to ward off illness this winter.

“Even with the injectable vaccine in short supply,” said Massachusetts Medical Society President-Elect Alan C. Woodward, M. D., “many simple, common sense steps can be taken to reduce the chances of getting sick with the flu.”

While getting a flu shot certainly adds some protection against the virus, Woodward, chief of emergency medical services at Emerson Hospital in Concord, said people should not lose sight of the important, simple steps to take to protect themselves even without a flu shot.

“Individual knowledge and behavior can have a powerful impact on public health,” said Woodward. “This is a good time to remind ourselves of some of the ABC’s of good health.”

He outlined several steps people can take to protect themselves:

·“Healthy Hygiene” -- Good hygiene habits just make good sense. Wash hands frequently or use an alcohol handwash or wipe, particularly if you’ve been out or around people with colds or flu. And avoid as much as possible touching your eyes, nose, mouth - gateways for germs into your body.

·“Cough Control” - Cover your mouth adequately, with a tissue or other means, if you’re coughing and never cough in the direction of someone else. If you don’t have a tissue or handkerchief, cough into your sleeve.

·“Prudent Parenting” -- Children are among the most vulnerable, so parents must be extra cautious. Don’t take your children into high-risk areas, like large crowds, where some may have colds or the flu. If your child is ill, keep him or her home. Check with school officials about the frequency and severity of the illness among students and faculty. And parents should be careful as well about their own workplaces. Finally, be cautious about holding, hugging and kissing your children if you’ve been somewhere where you think people may be sick.

·“Selective Sharing” - Sharing is a wonderful trait, but don’t share items that can spread germs and viruses, like straws, drinking cups and glasses or bottles.

How do you know if youÂ’re getting the flu? Symptoms include fever of 102-104 degrees, aches and pains, and fatigue.

If you, your family, friends or loved ones do get sick, public health authorities recommend lots of fluids and rest, ibuprofen (e. g., Motrin or Advil) or acetaminophen (e. g., Tylenol) for the aches and pains, and staying away from other people to prevent spreading the illness. Aspirin is not recommended.

Public health authorities also suggest that individuals should first contact their primary care doctors if they suspect theyÂ’re getting sick, and visit the emergency room if they canÂ’t reach their doctor and are experiencing unusually severe symptoms. Symptoms of severe cases include shortness of breath, noisy or labored breathing, coughing up significant amounts of phlegm, or getting worse after you think youÂ’ve become better.

For parents, a visit to the website of the American Academy of Pediatrics at www. aap. org/new/decimmunization. htm (http://www. aap. org/new/decimmunization. htm) will provide good information on caring and treatment of children.

Woodward said the state and Federal governments are working to secure as much vaccine as they can and are recommending that physicians use whatever supply of the injectable vaccine is remaining for the most vulnerable individuals.

In addition, adequate supplies of FluMist â - a nasal vaccine approved by the FDA -- are available. While it is more expensive than the regular vaccine, some health plans have announced that they will cover its cost. And physicians say it is an appropriate option for healthy people ages 5-49.

Woodward said people should check the website of The Massachusetts Department of Public Health for the latest information on the availability of vaccines and the severity of the flu at www. state. ma. us/dph/dphhome. htm (http://www. state. ma. us/dph/dphhome. htm )

For personal hygiene information, Woodward suggests visiting the Massachusetts Medical SocietyÂ’s website, which offers a school curriculum and basic information on hand-washing. Visit www. massmed. org/pages/handwashing03.asp (http://www. massmed. org/pages/handwashing03.asp) for brochures and posters.

The Massachusetts Medical Society, with more than 18,000 physicians and student members, is dedicated to educating and advocating for the physicians and patients of Massachusetts. Founded in 1781, the MMS is the oldest continuously operating medical society in the country. The Society owns and publishes The New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal Watch family of professional newsletters, and AIDS Clinical Care, and produces HealthNews, a consumer health publication. ERISA Pros Releases New Document Package to Meet Disclosure Compliance Requirements of ERISA

ERISA Pros Releases New Document Package to Meet Disclosure Compliance Requirements of ERISA

ERISA Pros releases a new package of forms, instructions, and checklists to help employers comply with ERISA document Disclosure requirements relating to their Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD), Summary of Material Modifications (SMM), and Summary Annual Reports (SAR) to Plan Participants. Electronic communication is rapidly taking the place of paper; however, electronic document delivery requires several additional steps to be compliant under ERISA. ERISA Pros’ new document package will alleviate confusion and make delivery of ERISA documents easy, efficient, and cost effective for employers—whether by paper or electronic means.

Atlanta, GA (Vocus) January 28, 2010

ERISA Pros, LLC, a leading vendor of ERISA compliance services for Health and Welfare Benefit Plans, announces the release of a new package of forms, instructions, and check lists for employers to easily, efficiently, and cost effectively comply with complicated Department of Labor (DOL) disclosure requirements. The DOL requires that employers disclose certain Plan information to Participants and Beneficiaries through various reports, such as SPDs, SARs, SMMs, and other ERISA documents. The DOL imposes strict requirements as to the content, as well as the timing, frequency, and method of delivery of these documents.

An employer may be fined up to $110 per day for each day that these documents are delivered after the deadline. This penalty applies for each Plan and is cumulative. According to Bernard Kearse, JD, LLM (http://erisapros. com/about-us. html), founder of ERISA Pros, “Where an employer maintains separate life, health, dental and disability plans that are not part of a single wrap plan arrangement, the $110 a day penalty is applicable to each plan. If this employer delivers its SPDs just 30 days late, it can be fined up to $13,200! ERISA Pros’ “Wrap-Tight” SPD (http://erisapros. com/how-you-save. html) approach reduces that employer’s exposure to only $3,300 for all four plans.”

Material that is required to be furnished to Participants must be delivered in a way reasonably calculated to ensure actual receipt of the material. An employer may use paper and/or electronic delivery methods. However, merely placing a supply of documents in the employer’s break room, posting them on the company’s website, or instructing employees to pick up a copy from the HR department does not satisfy the DOL delivery requirements.

Electronic communication is rapidly taking the place of traditional paper correspondence sent through the mail. An employer can enjoy significant savings in printing costs, time, and labor by utilizing electronic delivery methods, such as email and posting the material on its website. However, electronic delivery methods require additional steps including delivering a “Notice and Disclosure Regarding Electronic Disclosure” to Participants and obtaining a “Consent to Receive Disclosures Electronically” from them prior to actual delivery of materials. Kearse adds, “Our new package of forms, instructions, and checklists take the guesswork and hassle out for employers. ERISA Pros makes electronic document delivery easy, efficient, and cost effective.”

Treat or Cut Ash Trees? How Best to Control Emerald Ash Borers

Treat or Cut Ash Trees? How Best to Control Emerald Ash Borers

The problem of Ash trees threatened by the Emerald Ash Borer insect has homeowners and businesses trying to make the difficult decision on whether to treat or cut down their trees. ArborSystems can help with that decision as they have the answers for property owners. Arborists have been successfully protecting and saving Ash trees since 2001. They can survive and recover from EAB damage if they are properly diagnosed and treated in time. For more information, visit www. ArborSystems. com

Omaha, NE (PRWEB) August 5, 2008 - August 5, 2008

Deciding to treat or cut an Ash tree that is threatened by the Emerald Ash Borer insect can be a difficult question for most homeowners and businesses unless they have all the answers.

"Arborists have been successfully protecting and saving Ash trees since 2001," said Chip Doolittle, president of ArborSystems in Omaha, NE. "Ash trees can survive and recover from EAB damage if they are properly diagnosed and treated in time."

What is Emerald Ash Borer? An invasive insect beetle native to Asia that first showed up in North America in 2002. It attacks Ash trees by feeding on the water and nutrient tissues underneath the bark and has killed more than 30 million trees. Initial warning signs include woodpecker activity, gradually dying branches and a thinning of the tree canopy. Originally experts believed that EAB could only be controlled by cutting down trees resulting in many homeowners cutting down trees that could have been saved.

What are the options to protect trees? Field tests have proven that Ash trees can be protected with certain treatments, specifically Pointer Insecticide. Pointer is an imidacloprid formulation manufactured by ArborSystems that is applied with the ArborSystems Direct-Inject Tree Treatment System. It is an easy, fast and tree-friendly treatment that protects the tree's health and prevents long-term wounding. Real-life examples of the most efficient remedy and procedure for protecting and saving Ash trees rather than cutting them down are shown on www. TreeResearch. org.

When should a tree be treated? For best results, an Ash tree should be treated before it becomes infested or begins exhibiting symptoms and as soon as EAB has been identified in your area. Prized trees can be treated sooner. Treatments to cure trees are possible but are more difficult.

How long will it take for Pointer to start working? ArborSystems Direct-Inject unit delivers the chemicals directly to where the tree can best use it, so control is achieved in as little as three to five days.

What is the difference between no-drill and drilled trunk injections? The no-drill method is similar to getting a small cut that heals quickly versus drilling which is comparable to a cut that requires stitches and time to heal and can be prone to infections. Drilled holes provide easy access to tree pests and diseases. Although the chemicals are delivered inside the trunk with both methods, the ArborSystems Direct-Inject Tree Treatment System is designed to distribute the chemical into the active layer of the tree.

Can treatments hurt trees? Only if a treatment method is used that requires drilling because drilling wounds can permanently damage a tree's ability to move and store water and nutrients. The ArborSystems Direct-Inject system is the only trunk injections method that does not require drilling and most trees can be treated in five minutes or less. There also is no drilling damage or exposure risks associated with spraying, soil injections or drenching.

What else should be done to help trees? ArborSystems Pointer should be used along with various nutrients to keep the trees as healthy as possible.

How often should a tree be treated? The recommended action is for annual applications in areas with heavy infestations or in the curative stages and the use of it every other year in preventative situations.

Why should ArborSystems Pointer Insecticide be used? It has been used successfully since 2001 to prevent and treat EAB infestations. It is the only imidacloprid product labeled by the EPA for two-year control.

What will happen if a tree is treated but the city or neighbors are not treating the trees nearby? Trees treated with ArborSystems Pointer will be protected even with untreated trees nearby. In fact, groups of treated trees have survived in areas surrounded by hundred of trees that have died from EAB infestations as shown on www. TreeResearch. org. Tree studies since 2001 of ArborSystems Pointer have shown no evidence of EAB activity or damage to treated trees, even with 'insect pressure' evidenced by swarming of EAB adults within 50 feet of trees.

Does a tree have to be treated if it looks healthy and is located in Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia? For best results, treatments with ArborSystems Pointer should begin before an Ash tree becomes infested or branches start dying.

Who should treat trees? Pointer Insecticide from ArborSystems should be applied by trained tree care professionals using the Direct-Inject no-drill treatment system.

ArborSystems provides a variety of tree injection systems and insecticides, fungicides, nutrients and tree growth regulator designed to meet a broad range of tree care needs. The original Direct-Inject Tree Treatment System, The Wedgle, was introduced in the mid 1990s. For more information, visit www. ArborSystems. com.

E-Learning on Wheels: Newark College Brings Computing to Companies

E-Learning on Wheels: Newark College Brings Computing to Companies

Newark College takes IT off the desk and into the heart of the business community to improve computing skills with the Commun-IT van from ABK

(PRWEB) September 30, 2005

Newark College is playing an important role in taking IT off the desk and into the heart of the business community, where it is most needed, providing staff with valuable ICT and Internet skills to improve business productivity, thanks to pioneering mobile computing technology from ABK.

The initiative stemmed from the GovernmentÂ’s aim to bridge the digital divide and provide increased levels of ICT and Internet access to more deprived areas and to rural communities where broadband connectivity is typically unavailable. Newark College, with the help of technology specialists ABK, has responded to the plans by taking e-learning facilities to businesses across Nottinghamshire.

Companies in the certain areas of the county do not have broadband Internet access nor the computing infrastructure or hardware to host full-scale IT training. The e-learning and training facilities delivered by the college offer a flexible, cost-effective and on-demand alternative.

Newark’s Commun-IT van removes the financial implications and the headache of organising and installing costly ICT infrastructure, and also the problem of disposing with the IT equipment after the training has taken place. A core feature of the college’s van lies in its simplicity – it’s a mobile computing centre that can be deployed quickly and easily anywhere. The van is fully self-sufficient and operates on a wireless local area network, removing the need for a power supply or extra cables.

The college has two Commun-IT satellite vans, one of which they own and one which is part-funded by ABK, taking e-learning to company workforces. The vans are out on the road a large proportion of the time, hosting training sessions for small to medium sized businesses and not-for-profit organisations. The college delivers ICT training and support on-site, wherever and whenever it is required.

The solution is a flexible one, tailor-made to meet specific business requirements. Two hours to day-long workshops, the sessions cover a host of ICT areas, from word-processing, database and Internet training to literacy and numeracy ‘skills for life’ and a whole host of online courses such as health and safety training.

The initiative has brought a raft of advantages to employers and staff alike. Employer Engagement Co-ordinator Nigel Hullett said: “By taking learning directly out of the college confines and into the workplace, we are making training programmes and computing skills more accessible than ever.”

“ABK’s Commun-IT vans are helping to remove barriers to learning and increasing accessibility to e-learning – many individuals find the prospect of returning to college a daunting one, but by providing training in a familiar environment, many people are keen to learn new business skills.”

Nigel Hullett said: “We are working with more and more organisations across the region – we currently work with over 30 clients, including British DiaMalt, Dixons Mastercare and the British Wildlife Trust.

The scheme is also proving beneficial to employers, who are now able to equip their workforce with the necessary ICT skills, thereby increasing productivity and efficiency. The advantage of the Commun-IT van is its flexibility. It can take training and e-learning facilities anywhere. Companies can have the training they want, when and where they want it.

In-house training means that employers can provide on-site training without the complications of taking staff to a remote training centre and without the potential negative business implications of having key members of staff absent for long periods of time.

American Intercontinental University Launches Animated, Interactive Virtual Tour To Better Illustrate Online Education Experience

American InterContinental University (AIU) has announced the launch of a unique marketing tool for the online education industry: an animated microsite that uses state-of-the-art software to provide an interactive, 360-degree tour of the award-winning AIU Virtual Campus.

Hoffman Estates, IL (Vocus) September 15, 2009

Many students researching prospective colleges schedule a campus visit. But for those seeking a degree online, campus visits typically have consisted of a video with computer screen shots and a voiceover--until now, that is. American InterContinental University (AIU) has announced the launch of a unique marketing tool for the online education industry: an animated microsite (http://www. aiuvirtualtour. com/) that uses state-of-the-art software to provide an interactive, 360-degree tour of the award-winning AIU Virtual Campus.

The online education industry has experienced rapid growth in recent years, with almost 11 percent of college students in 2008 enrolled online and growth of such enrollment projected to reach 18 percent by 2013, according to the Eduventures Online Higher Education Learning Collaborative. In fact, 83 percent of the AIU student population is at AIU Online, as of July 31, 2009.

"As more universities offer degrees online, it's hard to tell what kind of experience you'll get as a student before you enroll," said Debbie McKean, director of marketing for American InterContinental University. " We wanted to take the guesswork out of what we have to offer at our award-winning virtual campus and show how our online learning technology really differentiates AIU. Now prospective students can experience the benefits of an AIU Online education in a way we weren't able to communicate in words or pictures before."

The virtual tour allows prospective students to explore the features, flexibility and benefits of an AIU Online education. Visitors can "walk" the AIU Virtual Campus (VC) as imagery of a traditional brick and mortar university wraps around them. They can visit different buildings on campus, such as Financial Aid and the Library, while exploring a variety of interactive features, including:
The virtual overview. Prospective students are introduced to the site through a video (http://aiuvirtualtour. com/#overview_overview) that shows why students choose AIU and what the schools have to offer busy, career-focused students.  The virtual classroom. The AIU VC uses the latest education technology to cater to different learning styles. In the virtual classroom (http://www. aiuvirtualtour. com/#classroom) prospective students can view a lesson in homeland security and choose from a wide variety of learning options to better understand concepts being taught.  The virtual commons. In the AIU virtual commons (http://www. aiuvirtualtour. com/#commons) users view videos (http://www. aiuvirtualtour. com/#commons_networking) of recent graduates who provide insight into their experience with the VC and the benefits of online education. The commons also show opportunities for students to connect through networking, clubs and social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and YouTube.  The virtual resources. Prospective students can see financial aid, career services and tech support options at the AIU VC.  Chat live. While students are exploring the features of the AIU VC, a university representative is available to answer questions and provide support in real time.

The site was created by StudioNorth, a Chicago-based integrated brand communications firm. StudioNorth used state-of-the-art software programs including Adobe Flex and Microsoft. NET technologies to create the site. This site is the first in the online education industry; however, innovators in other fields such as healthcare are using this technology with great success.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 22, 2007

On July 20, Gilda's Club Worldwide, the leading organization dedicated to providing social and emotional support throughout North America for people living with cancer, their families and friends, was highlighted in USA TODAY as part of the newspaper's 25th Anniversary celebration. The publication has chosen to salute 25 major charities in this way in an effort to acknowledge the generosity and social responsibility of American citizens.

With the passionate help of many volunteers, we have come a long way to ensure that Gilda's Club Greater Atlanta will be able to provide support for the men, women and children in our community that have been touched by cancer. This recognition by USA Today shows how important Gilda's Clubs are in communities and, with the help of so many generous supporters, we're proud to be bringing one to the Atlanta community.

"USA TODAY wanted to find a way to give back to the nation during our 25th anniversary celebration by celebrating causes that are closest to the hearts of Americans," said Susan Lavington, vice president of consumer marketing, USA TODAY. "We selected charities that represent a broad range of interests including environment, health, animals, arts, education, human services and public benefits, and hope our readers will join us in saluting these charities."

"Being featured among such a stellar list of charitable organizations is truly an honor, and we thank USA TODAY for the privilege," said Vivien Hoexter, CEO, Gilda's Club Worldwide. http://www. gildasclub. org (http://www. gildasclub. org) "Our 30 clubhouses located throughout the US and in Canada, provide exceptional support for our more than 45,000 members; but when statistics tell us that three out of every four people are touched by cancer every single day, the value of this recognition becomes priceless in helping Gilda's Clubs extend our message well beyond our red doors."

In addition to Gilda's Club Worldwide, other charities chosen include Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics, American Red Cross and the Humane Society of the United States. Atria Growth in Massachusetts Halted by Town Government

Atria Growth in Massachusetts Halted by Town Government

Local Residents Raise Concerns About Affordability, Working Conditions and Resident Safety

Falmouth, MA (Vocus) November 20, 2007

In a stunning defeat for Atria Senior Living, one of the country’s largest assisted living providers, local elected representatives in Falmouth, Mass. refused to change local zoning law to allow for the expansion of the Atria Woodbriar facility (located at 339 Gifford Street) at the annual Falmouth Town Meeting on Tuesday, November 13. Atria operates more than 140 facilities in 26 states. Atria is headquartered in Louisville, KY and owned by an investment fund affiliated with Lazard Ltd., a large Wall Street firm that manages over $140 billion globally.

Representatives of the Campaign to Improve Assisted Living and SEIU Healthcare joined Falmouth Town Meeting members who opposed the expansion. Town Meeting members expressed concern that Atria provides a service that is only accessible to the affluent while providing benefits and wages that leave employees in the ranks of the working poor. In addition, some residents were troubled by Atria’s nationwide record of resident care problems, medication errors, high caregiver turnover rates and mismanagement of renovation projects.

In August 2007, Atria purchased the 20 acre golf course adjacent to their Atria Woodbriar facility for $4.2 million. Atria planned to construct a new facility on that parcel, but needed the town to approve two zoning changes to proceed. Last Tuesday night, the Town Meeting sent a strong message that zoning changes would need to reflect the needs of Town residents before the interests of national companies.

“We know we need senior housing,” said Town Meeting member Peter Waasdorp. “But we need housing that our town residents can afford. With Atria charging up to $90,000 a year, their services are out of reach for all but the wealthiest members of our town. At the same time, Atria pay its workers wages that make it really hard to live in Falmouth. We voted this down because we need our zoning to match the needs of our town, not the needs of Atria.”

SEIU Healthcare represents the over 200 Falmouth residents working at Falmouth Hospital, Cape Cod Hospital and the Marine Biology Lab in Wood’s Hole.

More details are available at www. improveassistedliving. org.

The Campaign to Improve Assisted Living is an SEIU Healthcare campaign that unites assisted living caregivers with residents, family members, and senior advocates to stand for quality services for seniors and a voice on the job for caregivers. More than one million healthcare workers in hospitals, nursing homes, and in-home care have united in SEIU Healthcare for quality care and quality jobs.

Worried Consumers Study Insurance Options

Worried Consumers Study Insurance Options

American consumers and businesses aren't waiting for a new national political administration to take office and introduce promised healthcare reforms. They're exploring for themselves in record numbers insurance coverage options and available economies, the independent Insurance Bureau reported today

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 23, 2008

American consumers and businesses aren't waiting for a new national political administration to take office and introduce promised healthcare reforms. They're exploring for themselves in record numbers insurance coverage options and available economies, the independent Insurance Bureau reported today.

Insurance Bureau statistics for the period of October 15 - November 15, 2008 show a "significant increase" in traffic at www. InsuranceBureau. com as users look to compare prices and find bargains on all types of insurances. Bureau officials reported that site activity has more than doubled in the past 30 days.

"In addition to competitive pricing, a record number of consumers are wondering just how solid and solvent their existing coverage really is, especially during these challenging economic times. And they're worried," said Eric Oster, President and CEO of the Insurance Bureau.

"Our independent website is an excellent barometer of marketplace activity and interest because it provides comprehensive information and pricing comparisons that give consumers real power. They can easily identify and understand their existing carrier's ratings, and how changes in those ratings affect them." Oster noted that many insurers -- even those thought "bulletproof" just a few short months ago -- have experienced unpredicted rating reductions during the current economic crisis. "We're seeing across-the-board changes in the ratings of companies both large and small. Many are now as low as Class B or worse. These published ratings," he continued, "give policy holders the information they need to make smart financial decisions for themselves, their families and their businesses."

As the premier U. S. online insurance information source, www. InsuranceBureau. com has become a clearing house for all types of market intelligence relating to auto, home, health, life, business, long-term care (LTC), disability, annuity, and renters insurance.

Mountain Rose Herbs Wins 2008 Green Business of the Year

Thousands of consumers choose Mountain Rose Herbs for Co-op America's Most Prestigious Award.

Eugene, OR and San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) November 14, 2008

Today Mountain Rose Herbs, a leader in delivering exceptional quality certified organic and sustainable products, will accept Co-op America's People's Choice Award for 2008 Green Business of the Year. The award will be formally presented to Mountain Rose Herbs to help kick off the weekend-long San Francisco Green Festival™.

"The environmental ideals and practices incorporated by this company are an accurate reflection of the principles that all of us adopt and embrace on a personal level within our homes and communities. None of this would be possible without the sincere enthusiasm and commitment by each employee to make this company a paragon of environmental and social stewardship, and we could not do it without them." said Mountain Rose Herbs Operations Manager and Director of Quality Control Shawn Donnille.

Consumers nationwide submitted 6,277 ballots to Co-op America, the leading green economy organization, to vote for their favorite green business. Founded in 1982, one of Co-op America's primary focuses is to preserve the environment by creating and implementing programs that encourage corporate responsibility, tackle climate change, advance Fair Trade awareness and support green business.

Mountain Rose Herbs was chosen to receive this award because of their exceptional product line and commitment to social responsibility and the environment. They adhere as much as possible to producing "Zero Waste" which means that materials which might be regarded as waste are recycled, re-used, composted, reclaimed, or brought back into the production cycle. For instance, their staff of 60 people produces only about 80 gallons of waste each month--the equivalent of an average four person household. For their catalog, they use 100-percent post-consumer recycled paper and all their delivery trucks run on 100 percent locally produced biodiesel. They are one of the only US companies to carry Fair Trade Certified™ herbs--a certification that guarantees suitable working conditions and a fair price for labor.

"We were thrilled by the tremendous interest of environmentally and socially conscious consumers across the country in voting for their favorite green businesses," said Co-op America's Corporate Responsibility Programs Director Todd Larsen. "We're pleased to announce that green consumers awarded the prize this year to Mountain Rose Herbs, a company dedicated to maintaining eco-friendly practices not only in their production but also in their shipping and office operations. Sunday Social Welcomes Christchurch Mayor & Old Tyme Songsters

The Mayor of Christchurch, Councillor David Flagg, is visiting the ever-popular Sunday Social on the 4th of October, which will also see the 24-piece Old Tyme Songsters perform for older guests in and around the Borough.

The monthly event is becoming a firm date on the social calendar of many over-60s in Dorset, organised by the Institute of Commercial Management (http://www. icm. ac. uk) (ICM) and Forerunner Personal Catering.

Free of charge for all, the event offers the older residents of Christchurch and Bournemouth something a little bit different on a Sunday afternoon - especially for those who may not receive many visitors or find it difficult to venture far from their homes.

Held in Greystones Hall in Highcliffe, the Sunday Social starts with a delicious meal prepared and delivered ready-to-serve by 'meals on wheels' company Forerunner, one of its chief sponsors and organisers.

It is then followed by an hour of entertainment - with acts so far including a variety performer and singer, coupled with a few sessions of the ever-popular Bingo.

Co-sponsors of the event Forerunner and ICM have been delighted with the turnout so far and the wealth of appreciation from guests.

Managing Director of Forerunner - Bournemouth's largest meals on wheels provider - Declan O'Toole said: "The Sunday Social is evolving into a great success. It's nice to be able to give something back to the community and have it appreciated, and it is a great partnership between ICM and Forerunner."

Heidi Lees-Bell, Global Communications Director at ICM, said: "It's amazing how a simple afternoon of lunch and entertainment can make people smile and laugh so much - it is the social aspect of this event that has the power to really make a difference."

A number of other organisations are also supporting the event - Lions of Christchurch, Age Concern Christchurch, Dorset Partnerships for Older People Projects (POPP), Brendoncare Dorset, Christchurch Borough Council and Bournemouth Borough Council.

The event is held on the first Sunday of every month from 12.30pm until 3pm at Greystones Hall, Waterford Road, Highcliffe, BH23 5JL. Carers and those that they care for are also especially welcome, as the event also offers an afternoon of respite for both parties. Bookings to attend the Sunday Social can be made with Forerunner (01202 434555) or Dorset POPP (01202 225920).

The team behind the Sunday Social is looking for acts, shows and talks that would be of interest to the over-60s. If you are a performer, drama group, band, tutor, or lecturer, please do get in touch for a fantastic opportunity to entertain and inform a very appreciative audience. Contact Heidi Lees-Bell at ICM on 01202 485510.

Volunteers and hosts are also needed to assist the smooth running of the event and comfort of its guests, so if you feel you might be able to offer any help at future Sunday Socials, please get in touch with Jo Mitchard at Dorset POPP on 01305 225920.

New Infertility Program for Overweight Patients Delivers Big-time: A Vested Interest in Being Fit and Fertile

New Infertility Program for Overweight Patients Delivers Big-time: A Vested Interest in Being Fit and Fertile

The Fit and Fertile Program helps overweight and obese infertility patients who couldn’t get pregnant to get pregnant. Dramatic results and new hope now available through an infertility doctor’s vision to help his fertility patients realize their dream of having a child.

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) September 13, 2006

The Fit and Fertile Program, created to help overweight and obese infertility patients become pregnant, has had dramatic success. Since the creation of the program in March of this year, five of the 17 very dedicated patients taking part in Fit and Fertile have become pregnant.

"The results of the Fit and Fertile Program are impressive because overweight and obese patients have a very poor prognosis for success. And chances are, these patients may not have become pregnant without this weight loss," so says top fertility specialist Laurence A. Jacobs, M. D.

Dr. Jacobs, repeatedly selected as one of America's Top Doctors in Reproductive Endocrinology, created the Fit and Fertile program to help his overweight patients willing to make a serious commitment to using proper nutrition and physical conditioning to aid their fertility therapy.

Dr. Jacobs has annually been chosen as one of the top 1% of all fertility specialists in America by Castle Connelly, the publisher of the consumer health care guides America's Top Doctors 2000-2006. In Chicago, where Dr. Jacobs practices, Castle Connolly has also chosen him as a "Chicago's Top Doctor" in all their editions. Dr. Jacobs has been on Oprah, he writes a newspaper column on infertility & the media calls on him for his expertise.

Key Components of the Fit and Fertile Program

1. a 5-10% weight loss can dramatically improve fertility treatment pregnancy rates

2. exercise helps with insulin resistance -- an important key in battling infertility

3. on-going group teleconferences and seminars offered to participants

4. one-on-one consultations

5. utilization of the X2Vest, a weighted vest which burns more calories

The Fit and Fertile Program utilizes a unique piece of exercise equipment as a core part of its program, a weighted vest called the X2 Vest. The X2 is an adjustable weight vest that can easily be worn in the gym, outdoors, or just around the house. The X2 Vest works safely and effectively allowing the individual to add weight to their CORE (the mid-section of the body) in one-pound increments. Adding weight to your body requires more muscle fibers to be called into action, thus requiring more calories to be burned, which allows muscle development and weight loss, and most importantly in this case potentially improving pregnancy rates.

Here are the statistics. The Fit and Fertile Program began in March. Seventeen dedicated infertile women, classified as either overweight or obese, began in the program. To date, five of the seventeen women have become pregnant. All members of The Fit and Fertile Program have lost weight, inches as well as improving their strength and conditioning. The average weight loss has been between 1 to 3 pounds per month translating into many losing in the range of 10 to 17 pounds. Two women left the group for personal reasons. The rest continue to take part in the Fit and Fertile Program and are dealing with various phases of infertility therapies and/or infertility issues.

Dr. Jacobs points out: "Even with the use of fertility medications or IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)treatments, pregnancy rates are adversely affected by obesity. Many studies have shown that in obese women, especially those with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), a 5-10% weight loss often results in resumption of ovulation and higher pregnancy rates with all fertility treatments. For women who actively manage their obesity or PCOS via good nutrition, proper exercise, and help from a reproductive endocrinologist with expertise in the latest treatments, the chances of conceiving are extremely good."

Dr. Jacobs is well known to his fertility patients and the media for sharing his expertise: http://www. pioneerlocal. com/cgi-bin/ppo-healthfam? healthfamwhat=04-01-04-healthfam. dat (http://www. pioneerlocal. com/cgi-bin/ppo-healthfam? healthfamwhat=04-01-04-healthfam. dat)

To find out more about The Fit and Fertile Program or to interview Laurence Jacobs, M. D. or his infertility patients regarding this special infertility and weight loss program, please contact Linda Blackman at 847-550-9937.

NorgesGruppen Installs Digital Menuboard System Throughout Shell FRESH Gas Station Network

NorgesGruppen Installs Digital Menuboard System Throughout Shell FRESH Gas Station Network

Norwegian grocery retailer NorgesGruppen freshens up the gas station deli experience with the Shell FRESH network, using a Scala-powered dynamic digital menuboard to help sell healthier foods to hungry people at all hours.

Oslo, Norway (PRWEB) June 21, 2006

In January of 2006, Norwegian grocery retailer, NorgesGruppen, launched the first five pilots of their new Shell FRESH concept. The concept behind Shell FRESH is to offer healthy, delicate and enticing fast food, employing a digital menu board that dynamically adjusts for different promotions throughout the day. Each of the 166 Shell FRESH gas stations are fitted with a 4-screen digital menu board located in the FRESH section of the store and driven by two channels of Scala InfoChannel® (http://www. scala. com (http://www. scala. com)) software. Currently 400 Scala InfoChannel® Players are deployed throughout the Shell FRESH network.

NorgesGruppen is Norway’s largest trading enterprise. Its core business is grocery retailing and wholesaling. Through its chains, the group holds 34.8% of the Norwegian grocery market.

The goal of the Shell FRESH network is to improve the communication between the store and its customers by combining brand advertising with in-store customer information to enhance the customer shopping experience. In addition, to ensure a focused message is delivered to its local customers each store will create and manage some local content over its in-store infrastructure, by exploiting the dynamic control over playback of content at each location. A key feature offered by Scala InfoChannel®.

Each FRESH menu board installation consists of 4 NEC LCD screens configured side-by-side to create a single menu board array. Each menu board displays a unique campaign loop consisting of multiple promotions each day during predefined times; morning (breakfast), mid-day (lunch) and evening/night dinner/snack). Promotional content is chosen to fit the time of day as well as regional or store demographics. Campaigns and their individual promotions are consistently measured and changed accordingly. Digital content in all regions and individual locations is updated centrally by the advertising agency, Virtual Garden, who manages the content for all screens nationwide.

NorgesGruppen’s FRESH concept represents a new era in culinary offerings at Norwegian gas stations. Traditionally, this segment has represented unhealthy, ready-to-eat food. The deli counter in the new Shell FRESH stores however; offer a variety of healthy, fresh and delicate ingredients – no matter what time of the day you come in hungry! When planning the first pilots, NorgesGruppen Convenience wanted this new and FRESH concept to be reflected throughout the entire store. They felt the replacement of traditional printed signage with digital menuboards would be a great contribution to their strategic goal. To date digital menuboard systems has permiated the entire Shell FRESH network.

”It has been a pleasure working with NorgesGruppen on the Shell FRESH project,” says Truls Baklid, managing director Scala Nordic. ”NorgesGruppen’s mission is to modenize and freshen up the appearance of their stores and provide the best possible shopping environment for their customers.”

Hyaluronic Acid Facial Filler May Stimulate Natural Collagen Production, Plastic Surgeon Notes

Hyaluronic Acid Facial Filler May Stimulate Natural Collagen Production, Plastic Surgeon Notes

Oak Park, Ill. plastic surgeon and author Allan Parungao, MD, notes a study in the Feb. 20 Archives of Dermatology showing that Restylane, an anti-wrinkle injectable hyaluronic acid skin filler, appears to stimulate facial skin cells to make natural collagen.

Oak Park, Ill. (PRWEB) March 1, 2007

Restylane, a popular injectable anti-wrinkle treatment, appears to stimulate facial skin cells to make their own collagen, a basic skin protein. This new clinical study finding was reported in the Feb. 20 issue of the Archives of Dermatology, published by the American Medical Association.

The study's finding confirms what Allan Parungao, MD, a board-certified plastic surgeon who administers Restylane and Juvéderm, a newer hyaluronic acid injectable facial filler, is seeing in his patients. "In my observation, the longer a patient continues with hyaluronic acid-based facial fillers, the longer the results seem to last," reports Dr. Parungao, author of A Woman's Guide to Cosmetic Breast Surgery and Body Contouring (Addicus Books, 2006).

The clinical study showed that Resytlane's initial anti-wrinkle effect is caused merely by the presence of the filler in the skin. But three or four weeks after treatment, the skin actually begins forming its own new collagen.

What is hyaluronic acid?

"Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar in the skin that holds collagen and elastin together. This essentially provides a framework for the skin," Dr. Parungao explains.

"Injectable fillers such as Restylane and Juvéderm plump the facial skin, adding volume to minimize lines and wrinkles," says Dr. Parungao. "These hyaluronic acid fillers work by pulling water into the skin. Patients notice the results immediately."

"Since the clinical study on Restylane, the FDA has approved Juvéderm, another injectable hyaluronic acid filler," says Dr. Parungao, one of a small group of U. S. physicians chosen to participate in a Juvéderm experience trial before the product was introduced by Allergan in January.

Hyaluronic acid fillers surpass collagen injections.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are extremely popular among busy patients seeking less-invasive procedures to address the signs of aging. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), Americans received more than 1.2 million injectable hyaluronic acid treatments in 2005. Hyaluronic acid injections are normally given every six to 12 months.

Both Restylane and Juvéderm are available in several formulations to treat fine, medium and deep lines and wrinkles. "Hyaluronic acid fillers are commonly used to plump up the nasolabial folds, which extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth, as well as lines in the glabella, or the area between the eyebrows," Dr. Parungao explains.

Another reason for the rise in hyaluronic acid-based fillers: fewer allergic reactions. "Because earlier facial fillers such as collagen were derived from cows, patients had to undergo a pre-treatment skin test for allergies, then make a separate appointment for their first collagen treatment," says Dr. Parungao.

"But unlike collagen, hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin -- so no pre-testing is needed and allergic reactions are rare. Patients can be treated on their very first doctor visit," Dr. Parungao explains. And hyaluronic acid poses no risk of transmitting animal diseases by injection.

With the popularity and precision of hyaluronic acid facial fillers, the use of collagen injections has plummeted. The ASAPS reports that 220,000 collagen treatments were administered in 2005 - a 72% decrease from 2004 figures.

For more information on Restylane, visit www. parungao. com/restylane (http://www. parungao. com/restylane). Details on Juvéderm are available at www. parungao. com/juvederm (http://www. parungao. com/juvederm).

Allan Parungao, MD, is an Oak Park, Illinois plastic surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. On Saturday and Sunday, March 3-4, he will offer complimentary five-minute mini-consultations at the Chicagoland Health & Beauty Expo at the Renaissance Convention Center in Schaumburg, Ill.
