Divers Direct and Holiday Inn Lauderdale-by-the-Sea to Sponsor First Annual "Clean Up The Reef" Event

Divers Direct and Holiday Inn Lauderdale-by-the-Sea to Sponsor First Annual "Clean Up The Reef" Event

Divers Direct, the world’s largest retailer of scuba gear, in partnership with Holiday Inn Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, today announced the launch of the first annual “Clean Up The Reef” event.

DANIA BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) August 12, 2008

The event, a collaborative effort of environmentally responsible businesses in South Florida, was designed to help relieve the detrimental effects of an ever-increasing amount of discarded waste on local reefs, and the area's marine life in general.

"Local businesses like Divers Direct and Holiday Inn rely — really depend — on a healthy ecosystem to sustain tourism. Divers tend to be a population of nature lovers to begin with, so when you combine this passion with our livelihood depending on the environment, it's really clear that we must prioritize marine health," said Kevin Senecal, President, Divers Direct.

The event will feature prizes awarded for the most garbage collected by weight, which will provide incentive for a quick and efficient clean-up of the local reef. Garbage such as plastic does not degrade and can, and most likely does, stay on reefs and in the ocean for decades. Other debris can smother the reef and kill the coral, which is a live animal in itself, along with the bounty of other sea creatures that make the reef their home. In addition to their environmental importance and visual splendor, reefs, like rainforests, are potential hosts of undiscovered medicinal breakthroughs, such as the Rosy Periwinkle in Madagascar, which offers documented anti-cancer properties.

"A lot of people aren't aware that reefs provide many benefits beyond scuba diving, snorkeling, and fishing. In addition to the many ecological benefits that the reefs provide to South Florida they can impact everyone by acting as a barrier between the mainland and hurricanes — and other ocean phenomena such as tsunamis," Senecal commented.

"Clean Up The Reef," which will also benefit the National Save the Sea Turtle Foundation, will take place on Saturday, August 16th, 2008, from 1 pm ET – 5 pm ET. Registration is from 12 noon – 1 pm ET. The event will be followed by a celebration party beginning at 5 pm ET the same evening, featuring live music, drink specials, awards, and giveaways. The registration fee is $35 and includes a box lunch, buffet dinner and a contribution to the Save the Sea Turtles Foundation. Participants must be certified divers with proof of certification. For more information about the event, please contact Bruce Siegel at 954-776-1212.

Tis The Season For Portion Control and Stevia

Tis The Season For Portion Control and Stevia

How watching portions and adding stevia will allow you holiday sweets and treats

Portland, OR (PRWEB) December 19, 2008

Tis the season where sweets and treats are abundant, tempting and in your face at the office, home, friends and just about everywhere. We are hit with a slew of temptations from now until the New Year making it harder to stick with exercise and diet. Family gatherings and holiday travel make it sometimes difficult to continue on your fitness journey. The holidays revolve around good, rich and tasty foods which you want to and should partake in especially if you have been exercising and eating right diligently for the rest of the year. The key is portion control on the rich and sweet foods. Take into consideration the fact that it is not just one meal you will be attending that will include these foods so portion control is even more important.

It is easier to control a meal if you are the one hosting, making choices to use healthier alternatives which everyone will enjoy. This is a great way to give your guests some tips so they can use them for their own entertaining. Whipping up tasty treats for family and friends is a nice gesture but sharing nutritious meal tips can help your guests maintain a healthier lifestyle.

Food choices that are lower in sugar and fat can sometimes actually taste better than the original item. Using non fat plain yogurt in place of sour cream and mayonnaise can lower the fat of items such as coleslaw and other cold salads. Even egg and tuna salad is delicious done this way. You can also use lemons, grainy mustard and yogurt for a simple yet tasty, creamy salad dressing.

This holiday season, rather than serving sugary drinks and punches use all natural Fructevia, Steviva Brand Stevia Blend and Steviva Brand Stevia Powder. You don't need to cut out sweets completely, just cut down on them and savor it with a small portion.

When being a guest, make sure to select the most nutritious items offered. Find a few of treats you like but take smaller portions so that you can enjoy more than one. Don 't go overboard, this way you can sample some more at your next outing and still stay inline with your calorie intake. If there is one item in particular you like best, forego all other sweets, then get a nice serving of that which you love the most and enjoy it.

Whichever course you elect to take, remember to have a great time and exercise moderation. Portion control will be your friend that helps you make it through the holiday season with out the gift of weight gain.

Low Carb Sugar Free Spiced Cocoa
Serves: 4
Carbs Per Serving: 14.5 g
Prep Time:

Nothing defines the holiday season like a nice cup on hot chocolate or as my family called it cocoa. A lot of people don't realize the amazing health benefits of cocoa. A recent study has found that cocoa is rich in powerful antioxidants. Antioxidants can protect you against a range of diseases and reduce the effects of aging. Further studies suggests cocoa may be richer in antioxidants than drinks like tea and red wine.

Conventional hot chocolate is loaded with sugar. Here is an amazing cocoa recipe that is low in carbs and sugars yet is really delicious. I have this almost every morning during the winter months. You have to try it, seriously.

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup Steviva Brand Stevia Blend, Fructevia or 1/16 tsp of Steviva Brand Stevia Powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups milk
1/2 cup hot water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

In a saucepan, combine cocoa, Steviva Brand Stevia Blend, Fructevia or Steviva Brand Stevia Powder, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and salt. Blend in hot water. Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil, stirring for 2 minutes. Add milk; stir and heat thoroughly, but do not boil. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Beat until foamy. Serve hot with cinnamon sticks, if desired.

Investigate Before Buying a Business

Investigate Before Buying a Business

Purchasing a business without knowing all the facts can be like playing Russian roulette with your money. Many times, the seller does not offer up a full and accurate picture of the business and its health. See why venture capitalists and investment banks frequently use private investigators to get the whole story before investing.

Mount Clemens, MI (PRWEB) April 11, 2006

Although no one would purchase a business without reviewing the obvious: study the financial statements, inspect the assets and inventory, run a Dun and Bradstreet report, review all various tax returns, inspect accounts receivables and payables and check with sources in the industry about their reputation, in too many instances, that is not enough.

Our detective agency is regularly hired to assist attorneys in cases arising from purchasers who did the obvious but nothing more and ended up losing their entire investment. Not convinced? In a recent case, our client was prepared to lay the money on the table when their attorney convinced them to let us have a look. Our investigation quickly revealed that the company in question had no insurance, yet the books indicated that they were making payments for insurance premiums, several of their key clients did not exist or were now defunct entities, other vendors were actually owned by family members, several employees were being paid in cash and the sales manager had formed a new company that appeared poised to compete against them after the sale.

The good news is that as private detectives, we are frequently asked to assist clients with Due Diligence Investigations, including those of businesses being considered for acquisition. A due diligence investigation can be customized to address the specific attributes of a particular company and the cost should be proportionate to the task.

What we investigate:

Conduct a search for any litigation history. Prior lawsuits against the company can tell you a great deal about what’s really going on.  Conduct a search for other businesses owned or controlled by the selling parties. Far too many people have the entrepreneurial spirit and would sell you their business…. only to have a similar business or interest that may end up competing against you.  Check public records, licensing and governmental filings for completeness and accuracy. Are there prior bankruptcies? Were licenses ever revoked? In others names? Never filed? etc.  Verify the receivables are valid and with unrelated parties. Who really owes them money and do they acknowledge the debt and agree to it.  Interview employees and vendors about the health of the business. These people know what’s really going on. They know about the business and managements reputations. They know if business is really down 30%, if a major client is unhappy with them, if their habits have changed, if any employees have been laid off or let go recently, if they have bad leadership, etc.

When the stakes are high enough, we have also conducted limited surveillance of the business, owners and key employees to see what they are actually doing, if inventory is moving, if things are being puffed up to look good for the potential buyer visits, etc. A private detective specializing in this type of work can obtain the information you need to make an informed decision about your prospective purchase quicker and more cost effectively than an accountant or attorney. “Unfortunately, on far too many occasions we find that the business in question was not as healthy as reported on the books and the seller was intentionally overstating the value. Not hiring a firm like ours to conduct reliable due diligence before purchasing a business is like deciding to perform surgery on yourself. The consequences are obvious.” reports Paul Dank, principal with Advanced Surveillance Group, a Michigan based private detective agency specializing in due diligence investigations of corporations.

Before a business owner shares sensitive information with you, you may be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement. It assures the owner that you’ll use the information only to check out the business, and not for any other reason. Make sure the confidentiality agreement lets you share the information with your lawyer and accountant. It is also necessary to gain access to the real information you need to make good decisions.

For more information on investigating a business, please visit the Advanced Surveillance Group Website (http://www. asginvestigations. com/business_background/) or contact one of their investigators at 888-677-9700

Beware of Payroll Company Profit Centers and Save Money

Beware of Payroll Company Profit Centers and Save Money

One area that just about every client of a payroll processor is paying too much for is Section 125 Premium Only Plan (POP) administration. A recent survey found that payroll processors are charging their clients $360.00 to $1,500.00 every year for Section 125 POP administration. Discover a $99 alternative.

Bradenton, FL (PRWEB) August 1, 2005 -

– Payroll processing has become an extremely competitive business; many payroll companies have come up with creative ways to overcharge unsuspecting clients for questionable services in order to pump up their bottom line. Are you paying too much for payroll processing? It depends on who’s processing your payroll, how many services you’ve requested, and how many reports they provide.

One area that just about every client of a payroll processor is paying too much for is Section 125 Premium Only Plan (POP) administration. Section 125 is the part of the Internal Revenue Code that allows employees to pre-tax, or avoid paying taxes, on their portion of employer sponsored insurance premiums. Most employers pay for all or most of the employeeÂ’s portion of health insurance, however, the employee normally pays for part of their own premium, and the full cost for their dependent coverage. The Section 125 POP saves the employee approximately 30% in income and FICA taxes on this portion of the cost, and saves the employer approximately 7.65% in matching FICA taxes. Clients may also want to verify that the payroll processor is actually applying the employerÂ’s 7.65% FICA discount; otherwise this could be another large windfall profit center for the payroll processor instead of the client. This becomes a much bigger issue as the cost of health insurance continues to double every four years.

A recent survey found that payroll processors are charging their clients between $30.00 and $50.00 per month for Section 125 POP administration, and some payroll processors charge an additional $5.00 to $10.00 per month per employee, over and above the monthly fee. This averages between $360.00 and $1,500.00 annually, year after year. Clients are usually shown that their FICA tax savings more than offset these high fees, (if theyÂ’re actually receiving it). This effectively moves those savings out of the clients pocket and into theirs. Skip to the end of the article for a low cost solution to these charges.

One well known payroll processor routinely use IRS audit horror stories about large fines to scare clients who question the high fees. Many more payroll processors routinely, and falsely, tell their clients the high fees also include filing the annual IRS Form 5500, a requirement that was suspended by the IRS for Section 125 plans in 2002. These companies also imply that this is much too difficult for the client to administer themselves, while they routinely assign the task to their lowest paid employees. This is evidenced by the volume of uneducated remarks these employees consistently make.

What does the payroll processor actually do for those monthly fees? In reality theyÂ’re doing very little, almost nothing compared to the cost. This is what they donÂ’t want you to know.

HereÂ’s what is required to take advantage of the tax savings under a Section 125 Premium Only Plan:

The IRS requires that the sponsoring company maintain a formal Plan Document Every employee must sign an election form 30 days prior to the new Plan Year Every employee should receive a copy of a Summary Plan Description or SPD Once a year the group should perform nondiscrimination testing to ensure the plan is not discriminating in favor of highly compensated or key employees Only employees are allowed to participate in Section 125 plans

Back to the question; what is the payroll processor actually doing for the fees they charge? TheyÂ’re providing the Plan Document and the SPD, and they may be providing the annual nondiscrimination testing. Everything else is done by the client. The client collects and forwards the employee election forms to the payroll processor who enters the deductions into their program as a pre-tax deduction instead of a post-tax deduction. The employee deductions are left in the client bank account and the client pays the insurance premium to the carrier themselves.

Your next question should be; what is this Section 125 POP service really worth? Core Documents, Inc., a nationwide leader in providing low cost IRS and DOL compliant Plan Documents for Section 125 Plans, only charges $99.00 plus $15.00 shipping and handling. Employers receive a complete kit in a personalized notebook that includes: a Corporate Resolution to establish the Plan; a formal Plan Document; a Summary Plan Description (SPD); election forms; and an extensive administrative guide complete with fill-in-the-blank nondiscrimination forms, and everything needed to successfully establish and operate a Section 125 POP. Core Documents is also available to answer questions and will maintain the document for changes in the tax code and law for only $69.00 a year.

Do you have to use the payroll processorÂ’s Section 125 POP services? Absolutely not, you simply tell them you no longer need the Section 125 service, youÂ’ll be doing it yourself. Although they wonÂ’t be happy about it, they still have to make the deductions on a pre-tax basis, which is a simple function of their payroll software. Once you have your own Plan Document you donÂ’t need their Section 125 POP service any longer. As long as youÂ’re using their documents you must pay them. This is the reason most payroll processors donÂ’t give you a copy of your Plan Document, and many clients, who donÂ’t know any better, never receive a copy of the Plan Document even after they stop using the payroll processor. This can create problems later in the event of an IRS audit. Good luck trying to get a copy later. ItÂ’s not wise to allow an outside entity to hold your critical IRS and DOL required Plan Documents hostage for an unreasonable annual profit.

Visit Core Documents at http://www. CoreDocuments. com (http://www. CoreDocuments. com) and order your own Section 125 POP kit for only $99 + S&H and start saving money immediately. Tell your payroll processor you no longer need their Section 125 service as youÂ’ll be doing it yourself.

Sensational Creations, inc., Introduces the Magic Massager®, a Genuine Advance in Massage Technology

The Magic Massager is a satiny cloth device which allows a therapist to perform effective Swedish massage and other bodywork techniques without the use of oil -- it even works through a client’s clothing. The Magic Massager’s unique, patent-pending design permits a nearly 100% friction-free movement, thus mimicking massage oil but with none of oil’s mess and inconvenience.

Idyllwild, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2006

The Magic Massager is a satiny cloth device which allows a therapist to perform effective Swedish massage and other bodywork techniques without the use of oil -- it even works through a client’s clothing. The Magic Massager’s unique, patent-pending design permits a nearly 100% friction-free movement, thus mimicking massage oil but with none of oil’s mess and inconvenience.

“When I first show the product to bodyworkers they might say, ‘oh, that’s pretty’” says Tom Jackson, MD, the Magic Massager’s inventor, “I mean, it looks like just a square of colorful satin. But then they start working with it and realize what a remarkable tool it is. You can do any kind of massage, right through clothing. The thing’s amazingly versatile.”

Industry insiders such as Cliff Korn, editor of Massage Today, predict that the Magic Massager will be a particular boon to practitioners of chair massage, a rapidly growing field which is proliferating in office parks and shopping malls across America. Chair massage therapists often feel frustrated with the inherent limitations of working without oil through clothing. Suddenly the Magic Massager lets them easily deliver what feels like a full-body spa session, soothing effleurage strokes and all.

“Corporate [chair] massage is only the most obvious market for the Magic Massager,” Dr. Tom effuses with his trademark boyish enthusiasm. “Think of all the new clients a therapist can attract, offering massage to folks who feel shy about taking their cloths off. Or they can massage the heck out of a client’s scalp without getting the hair all oily – how many people are going to be jazzed about that? Or maybe your clients don’t have time for a full massage, or maybe they just need a quick foot rub or an on-the-spot diagnostic: the Magic Massager makes these things a total breeze!” The good doctor ticks of the possible applications: physical therapy, neonatal care, sports massage, aquatic therapy (“It works like a dream under water”), acupressure and deep tissue work…the list goes on and on.

Already the Magic Massager has caught the attention of prominent figures in the spa and massage industries. National speaker and trainer Steve Capellini, author of several widely respected massage books, relates that he easily sells whole cases of Magic Massagers at his professional workshops, after only a brief demonstration. “Tom’s definitely got a winner. Plain and simple, this cool little tool is destined to be thought of as a bodywork must-have.”

Once the professional market gets well acquainted with Tom Jackson’s invention, the Magic Massager will be introduced to a broad general market. Jackson believes that any health-conscious person who enjoys the pleasures and benefits of massage will want to own one.

Thomas Jackson, MD, carefully developed the Magic Massager over the course of two years with the help of his colleague (now board member) Dr. Joseph Cunning, one of America’s preeminent textile researchers. In 2003 Tom Jackson founded Sensational Creations, Inc., to promote this and other life-enhancing inventions. From its headquarters in Southern California’s serene San Jacinto Mountains the company is launching a nationwide marketing campaign which will include all forms of print media, live demonstrations, and massive direct mailings.

The Magic Massager is only the first in a line of potential products which will incorporate the Magic FabricTM technology: children’s blankets, sports towels, pillowcases, loungewear, and much more.

For further information on the product visit the new websites, www. magicmassager. net (for professionals) or www. magicmassager. com (for general consumers). For a free sample of the Magic Massager and/or to arrange an interview with its inventor, call 877 659 5233.

With the first flavor of Xenergy being Cran Razz, the Xenergy line now includes Citrus Clear, Big Apple, Blu Pom, Mango Guava and Pink Lemon flavors.

"We have achieved tremendous growth and traction in the competitive energy drink market," said Rios. "We are extremely pleased to be working with Longs Drug Stores as well as serving the Hawaiian Community with what we believe to be an exciting, premium product."

Early marketing success is attributable to Xyience's strategic partnerships with the UFC, Spike TV, MTV, VH1, The Fight Network and several trade magazines worldwide. These brand alliances have allowed Xyience to quickly become one of the most sought after brands in the world today. Xyience (http://www. xyience. com/t-xyience_about. aspx) is strongly associated with health, fitness, mixed martial arts and other forms of extreme sports.

Unique Milk Protein Based Nanotubes

Unique Milk Protein Based Nanotubes

Researchers in the Netherlands investigated novel α-lactalbumin nanotubes with potentially interesting applications in the food and pharma industries.

Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) March 27, 2006

Researchers in the Netherlands investigated novel α-lactalbumin nanotubes with potentially interesting applications in the food and pharma industries.

Under certain conditions, partial hydrolysis of the milk protein α-lactalbumin by a protease from Bacillus licheniformis (a large, aerobic bacillus that produces endospores) leads to self-assembly of nanotubes several micrometers in length. One potential application of these long, stiff nanotubes is as controlled-release drug delivery agents.

Because α-lactalbumin is a milk protein, it will be fairly easy to apply the nanotubes in food applications as a novel ingredient with specific functionality. Furthermore, α-lactalbumin has significant nutritional properties and is associated with some positive health effects upon consumption.

Joanke Graveland-Bikker, who now is at the Center for Biomedical Engineering at MIT but co-authored this article while she was at NIZO food research, and Professor Cornelis de Kruif from the Van’t Hoff Laboratory for Physical and Colloid Chemistry at Utrecht University investigated these novel nanotubes.

Their recent paper (in press) titled "Unique milk protein based nanotubes: Food and nanotechnology meet", was published online in the Feb. 21, 2006 edition of Trends in Food Science & Technology.

"An important issue for example in food applications is the stability of the α-lactalbumin nanotubes under a variety of conditions" Graveland-Bikker explained to Nanowerk. "In our experiments it appeared that these nanotubes could withstand some important treatments, such as those, which might be encountered in industrial manufacturing processes and applications."

"They withstand conditions similar to a pasteurisation step (40 seconds at 72°C) and they withstood a freeze-drying treatment" she says.

"Another important feature for applications, controlled release in particular, is the controlled disassembly of the α-lactalbumin nanotubes" says Graveland-Bikker. Disassembly can be induced by decreasing the Ca²+ concentration. "Simply by varying the Ca²+ concentration in the solvent the disassembly rate can be controlled," she says.

What makes the α-lactalbumin nanotubes interesting for industrial food applications is their high aspect ratio, their relative stiffness, their nanometre-sized cavity and the ability of controlled degradation. This could make them useful as viscosifying agent (because of the high aspect ratio and their stiffness) and as gelation agent for strong, transparent gels where gel formation could be made reversible.

"Perhaps most importantly" Graveland-Bikker says "because of their cavity, the α-lactalbumin nanotubes could well serve as vehicles for drugs or other encapsulated molecules, such as vitamins and enzymes, or protect or mask encapsulated compounds."

New Conservative Website Launched AGAINST Marriage Amendment

New Conservative Website Launched AGAINST Marriage Amendment

Not All Conservatives Support Marriage Amendment. Citizen Outreach Says Leave the Matter to the States.

WASHINGTON, DC (PRWEB) December 18, 2003

Citizen Outreach, a non-profit organization in Washington, D. C., which supports limited-government public policies, announced a new website today focusing on opposition to the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA). The new website can be accessed at www. lawfullywedded. com.

Â“The fact is, you donÂ’t have to support gay marriage in order to oppose this effort to tinker with our Constitution and create a one-size-fits-all national policy of prohibiting it,” said Chuck Muth, president of Citizen Outreach. “Contrary to popular opinion, not all conservatives support this idea of using our founding document for social engineering. That was tried once during Prohibition, and we all know how that turned out.”

The website includes links to both the House and Senate versions of the Federal Marriage Amendment as well as the recent Massachusetts court opinion legalizing “gay marriages.” There are also links to recent news stories on the issue, conservative opinion columns opposing the amendment, an FAQ page, an online opinion poll and multiple quotes from conservative leaders and conservative activists who oppose the FMA.

Â“Not only do we think this is bad policy, we think pursuing this amendment is bad politics,” said Muth. “ItÂ’s going to fracture the conservative movement, pitting traditional Goldwater conservatives against social conservatives. Frankly, we have a lot bigger fish to fry. Conservatives who really want to do something with the Constitution might instead work to repeal the 16th Amendment which established the income tax. That amendment, not to mention heterosexual divorce and unwed motherhood, have done far more damage to the American family than gay marriage ever could.”

Muth concluded saying marriage is and should continue to be a state issue. “Conservatives are supposed to believe in local control over matters such as this. Conservatives who want to be consistent in their beliefs need to actively oppose efforts to nationalize marriage the way Hillary Clinton tried to nationalize health care.”

Pirate to Talk All Day About Health Food and 'Nutritionology'

Talk Like a Pirate Day is upon us once more, but has metamorphosised into International Lets Talk Like a Pirate Day. Media contacts have been inundated with press releases from companies and charities trying to jump on the bandwagon of this awareness day that has captured the imagination of people on both sides of the Atlantic.

(PRWEB) September 17, 2006

Talk Like a Pirate Day is upon us once more, but has metamorphosised into International Lets Talk Like a Pirate Day. What started as a joke between 2 US journalists has become a major phenomenon throughout the world.

Media contacts have been inundated with press releases from companies and charities trying to jump on the bandwagon of this awareness day that has captured the imagination of people on both sides of the Atlantic.

One of the first UK charities to adulterate Lets Talk Like a Pirate Day was the Vegan Society in 2004. Their head of PR used Lets Talk Like A Pirate Day to inspire manufacturers and caterers to provide pirate copies of animal products that were suitable for everyone. Pizza Express even had healthier low fat dairy free pizzas in selected restaurants.

With the launch of Pirates of The Caribbean II - Dead Man’s Chest – The original spoof website www. PiratesofTheCarobBean. com, led by one Capt Long John Tofu has been resurrected and the Pirates of The Carob Bean are on a mission to save the world through healthier food for both kids and adults.

Captain Long John Tofu says “It don’t seem to matter to folks, old or young, fat or thin – seemingly folks o all shapes an sizes want to be a pirate for a while or at least talk to one. When I get out onto the streets o London people be stopping me to get their photo taken like I’m some kind o celebrity or something”

“ If you was being a nutritionologist standing in Kensington High Street no one be touching you with a 2 fathom barge pole. But stick a cutlass in yer belt, a floppy hat on yer bonce and a musket in yer pocket and every Tom, Dick, Sally and scallywag wants ter be listening to yer edumacation announcements. I reckon landlubbers think nutritionology an health be boring but it be having no need to be. Course us sea faring folk need to optimumalised with our dietarimilogical needs – space is at a premium on a galleon!”

The Pirates of The Carob Bean are now at it all year around and there is now a talk like a pirate forum, a news blog, a recipe page, a rogues gallery and even a selection of favourite pirate’s tattoos.

They are now on a mission to encourage vegan pirate copies of everything from children’s nursery rhymes (this little piggy went to market will never be the same again) to clothes (silk and fur are out), shoes (no leather), cosmetics (seal oil is targeted), Doner kebabs and even nutrition supplements (there’s a new fish-less omega 3 algae oil).

IT Skills Most Lacking Amongst Voluntary Healthcare Employees Claims New Skills for Health Sponsored Research

IT Skills Most Lacking Amongst Voluntary Healthcare Employees Claims New Skills for Health Sponsored Research

New research commissioned by the UK Workforce Hub and sponsored by Skills for Health (SfH) - the sector skills council for the NHS, independent and voluntary healthcare sectors - has identified the main skills gaps and skills shortages faced by employers in the voluntary healthcare sector.

(PRWEB) November 1, 2007

The research examined the nature, scope and impact of skills gaps and shortages in paid employees within the voluntary sector in 2007. In terms of skills gaps - where healthcare employers in the voluntary sector report having employees who are not fully proficient at their job - the top ten gaps cited were:

1. Strategic use of IT (26 per cent)
2. Fundraising skills (24 per cent)
3. Communication skills (21 per cent)
4. Marketing skills (19 per cent)
5. Health and safety skills (19 per cent)
6. Team working (17 per cent)
7. Strategic planning and forward thinking skills (17 per cent)
8. Leadership skills (16 per cent)
9. Monitoring and evaluation skills (14 per cent)
10. Legal knowledge (14 per cent)

Two-fifths of employers within the voluntary healthcare sector report an 'increased time taken to deliver work' as a result of their employees' skills gaps, but the most frequently reported impact was 'increased workload'.

'Communication skills' was top of the list of skills shortages reported by healthcare employers in the voluntary healthcare sector (23 per cent); followed by 'the strategic use of IT' (16 per cent) and 'team work' (14 per cent). Skills shortages are those 'hard to fill' vacancies which are the result of a lack of required basic or specialist skills, qualifications or experience in job applicants.

Healthcare was the third most likely function to experience these hard to fill vacancies, less than one percentage point behind Youth Work and Social Care Provision.

Commenting on the findings, John Rogers, Chief Executive of Skills for Health said:

"This report raises some challenges for the healthcare sector as a whole which need to be addressed in partnership between individuals, organisations and government. The findings will help refine Skills for Health's work towards developing a skilled, flexible and productive workforce for the entire healthcare sector in England."

The 75-page report; entitled Voluntary Sector Skills Survey 2007 - England, is available via the National Council for Voluntary Organisations' website at http://www. ncvo-vol. org. uk (http://www. ncvo-vol. org. uk)

London’s Newest “Breathing Coach” Offers Expert Techniques with Proven Results - A Little Bit of Breathing Can Improve Your Life

London’s Newest “Breathing Coach” Offers Expert Techniques with Proven Results - A Little Bit of Breathing Can Improve Your Life

Kim Upton, The Breathing Coach, is offering personalized Buteyko sessions to help sufferers of asthma, hay fever, sleep disorders, anxiety and many other illnesses. Buteyko techniques have been proven to be efficient ways of reducing symptoms of many of the above mentioned illnesses.

London (PRWEB) July 22, 2005

Rather than buying tons of medicine to relieve symptoms of asthma, chronic anxiety, and other ailments, consult The Breathing Coach, Kim Upton who uses the breathing techniques of Buteyko to reduce sufferings of such illnesses. Upton offers personalised breathing sessions proven to relieve symptoms ranging from asthma and stress related disorders to sleeping disorders and hay fever.

A suffer of asthma himself, Kim Upton found his cure in Buteyko and has been virtually medicine free and breathing fine for more than 6 years. He offers a wide range of unique services that include phone sessions and group sessions. For the past 5 years, UptonÂ’s skills and expertise has helped many people from all over the nation.

Buteyko, a breathing method founded by Russian doctor Konstantin Buteyko, is based on the evidence relating incorrect breathing to many ailments such as asthma. For example, with asthma, people tend to over breathe, practically hyperventilating, which depletes the amount of carbon dioxide in the body causing spasms, particularly in the airways. With proper coaching using Buteyko methods, these manifestations can disappear.

As Kim UptonÂ’s colleague Jill McGowan found from a trail study she conducted in 2002, 98% of the people placed in an active Buteyko group experienced a reduction in symptoms and used their medications less (www. buteyko. info). In comparison, the control group that received conventional asthma management felt no significant changes.

According to Kim Upton, “Our breathing is being upset by the stresses of modern living and people lack the knowledge and resources to adapt their breathing to their busy lifestyles. As a result, many stress-related symptoms including wheeziness, anxiety, sleep problems and hypersensitivity can emerge. People need to realise that the simple answer is essentially right in front of them - the way that they breathe. Unfortunately, modern symptomatic medicines can sometimes exacerbate the problem by not addressing the root cause of the symptom.”

Breathing Coach Upton is a member of the Buteyko Institute of Breathing & Health, the professional association for the Buteyko Institute Method (BIM). For more information on the proven benefits of the BIM, visit www. buteyko. info.

UptonÂ’s coaching allows you to optimise the way that you breathe so that you can correct many of the imbalances that exist in your life. He offers specific and personal education based on Buteyko techniques. He is currently practising at The Happiness Centre in West London; 204 Uxbridge Road, London W12 7JD. Initial consultations and personal breathing assessments are easy to book by contacting The Happiness Centre on 020 8749 3792.

New Jersey Charity Eva's Village Creates Team-Building Opportunities for Corporate Volunteers

New Jersey Charity Eva's Village Creates Team-Building Opportunities for Corporate Volunteers

Eva’s Village (http://www. EvasVillage. org), a progressive anti-poverty charity offers corporations team-building opportunities: “Bond, Boost, & Build”

Paterson, NJ (PRWEB) April 27, 2010

Eva’s Village (EvasVillage. org), a progressive anti-poverty charity offers corporations team-building opportunities: “Bond, Boost, & Build”.

Corporations routinely look to strengthen their organization by creating opportunities for staff to Bond with fellow employees, Boost the spirit of mission and Build a team effort. Eva’s Village, a model anti-poverty agency (http://www. evasvillage. org) in Paterson, New Jersey, has created a Corporate Team Building initiative which offers a unique opportunity for organizations to “Bond, Boost, & Build” through service to others. This well-organized initiative combines a tour of the extensive anti-poverty programs provided by Eva’s Village and an opportunity to volunteer in the Kitchen/Dining Hall serving over 350 homeless in New Jersey (http://www. evasvillage. org/shelters. shtml) and working poor individuals a hot lunch every day of the year.

Through this experience, corporate volunteers at Eva’s Village will also have a chance to: Bond with those in need, Boost their spirit of self-worth and Build a world of possibility and hope. Corporate volunteering benefits the corporation, the employees and the community.

Some of the corporations that have already participated in Eva’s Bond, Boost, & Build initiative are: Medco Health Solutions, NVE Bank, UPS and Atlantic Stewardship Bank. “What a wonderful experience we all had at Eva’s,” stated Nancy Rickenberg, Marketing Assistant, Atlantic Stewardship Bank. “We came away with a better understanding of Eva’s Village and the needs of the people they serve. They are truly an amazing organization.”

Eva’s Village, once a small soup kitchen (http://www. evasvillage. org/evas_kitchen. shtml) in Paterson, New Jersey, is now the most comprehensive anti-poverty organization in the state, with twelve programs. However, when it comes to volunteering, Eva’s Kitchen offers the best opportunity as an introduction to Eva’s Village and how they ensure that all guests are treated with dignity. To that end, diners at Eva’s Kitchen are seated and served at their tables by volunteers, rather than being herded into a “chow line”. After their meal, guests often converse with one another in the courtyard outside the dining hall. This space provides a quiet respite from the busy streets of Paterson and allows Eva’s clients to form friendships with one another. Through these relationships, as well as those formed with the kitchen staff and volunteers, the clients learn of the extensive resources that are available to them at Eva’s Village and may choose to take the next step – whether it is a shelter, drug/alcohol recovery (http://www. evasvillage. org/addiction-treatment. shtml), primary medical/dental care or activities at the only state funded recovery center in New Jersey.

Sister Gloria Perez, Executive Director of Eva’s Village is quick to remind that the vision of Eva's Village is to be a model social service organization dedicated to preserve and enhance the dignity of the individual. She says, “Many of our brothers and sisters have been demoralized by poverty and have experienced a level of misery that most of us have never known. In all our programs, we try to affirm the human dignity of each individual and make them feel loved and valued as human beings.”

Hundreds of people have donated their time, hard work and love to feed the hungry at Eva’s Kitchen — some for more than twenty years. Through the “Bond, Boost, and Build” initiative, Eva’s Village is trying to get more corporations to get involved. Hundreds of volunteers (http://www. evasvillage. org/volunteer. shtml) find personal fulfillment working in Eva’s Kitchen and in the many other programs at Eva’s Village that provide an immediate positive impact on the lives of the poor. With an introduction to the kitchen, corporate volunteers often discover how their own unique talents might help other programs at Eva’s Village.

For more information on the Eva’s Village “Bond, Boost, and Build” initiative, contact Barbara Niziol at Barbara(dot)Niziol(at)evasvillage(dot)org or call (973) 523-6220 Ext. 226.

Originally a New Jersey soup kitchen, Eva’s Village was founded in 1982 by Msgr. Vincent E. Puma in response to the increasing incidence of homelessness in Paterson, NJ. But Msgr. Puma soon realized that another New Jersey soup kitchen was not enough. With the generous support of thousands of donors (http://www. evasvillage. org/donate. shtml) and private and government grants, Eva’s Village has grown into the most respected anti-poverty program in New Jersey.

YourCity. MD Announces One-Click Relief Center, New Medical Search Engine

YourCity. MD LLC (www. YourCity. MD), healthcare’s local, city-specific navigation system serving over 500 city and state. MD health sites, today announced its new medical search engine, the One-Click Relief Center™. At the very moment a consumer needs to make a healthcare decision, the One-Click Relief Center™ matches medical information with a listing of local doctors and specialists who can treat their symptom/concern/condition, along with doctor ratings and a listing of locally-available services and products.

CINCINNATI (PRWEB) October 20, 2008

To see how the Relief Center™ works, go to www. Cincinnati. MD or any one of YourCity. MD's 500 city or state. MD sites, and type in a symptom or condition in the search box. For a full listing of. MD city and states, go to www. yourcity. md/yourcity/allcities. aspx (http://www. yourcity. md/yourcity/allcities. aspx).

For example, a young parent searching for information on influenza on Cincinnati. MD, would not only receive a listing of flu information, but local Cincinnati pediatricians (listed in order of patient ratings) and local flu resources, such as nearby flu shot clinics and products.

"We understand that consumers are interested in accurate and timely online health information, and our One-Click Relief Center is the only engine that links medical information to local resources, doctors and products to help patients get immediate help without the need for further searching," said Joe Benza, founder and CEO of YourCity. MD. "We also give local and regional healthcare providers and retail clinics a way to reach consumers seeking their services."

In response to three major developments in healthcare – consumer-directed healthcare, online health resources and retail health clinics – YourCity. MD's One-Click Relief Center™ search engine delivers a one-click "search and find" feature so that every consumer, no matter where they live, can instantly get the same quality health information and access to local and regional healthcare resources and providers.

"We've seen doctor ratings take off, but that has been happening in a vacuum. Some analysts have described our search engine as 'find a doctor on steroids' since we link up the search for health information to specific local doctors and then, with the same search, give consumers a look at patient feedback on those same doctors," said Dr. Michael Barber, chief medical officer at YourCity. MD.

"Our new, unprecedented medical search engine further strengthens YourCity. MD's local and regional healthcare business model, bringing value to local media partners and businesses who want to reach online healthcare consumers that seek health and wellness services in their specific city, state or regional markets," said Benza. "We not only own the best real estate corners on the Internet, but are just starting to build the first healthcare skyscrapers in those spaces."
