Recycling for Charities is Collecting Electronics to Benefit Doctors Without Borders

Recycling for Charities is Collecting Electronics to Benefit Doctors Without Borders

Donate your cell phones and other electronics online to support Doctors Without Borders

ROYAL OAK, MI (PRWEB) December 18, 2005

Recycling for Charities (RFC) will be collecting unwanted cellular phones, PDA’s, pagers and digital cameras online at www. recyclingforcharities. com to benefit the international medical organization, Doctors Without Borders/ Medicines Sans Frontieres (MSF) for their relief efforts worldwide.

RFC is a non-profit organization whose mission is to save the environment from toxic waste due to the increasing numbers of electronics discarded in landfills. All electronics donated to RFC by individuals and corporations are recycled with Wireless Source, of Bloomfield Hills Michigan. Wireless Source purchases the items from RFC and determines which items can be refurbished and resold. The items are sold to people who could not otherwise afford wireless communication and electronics. RFC receives on average $1-2 per reusable electronic item from Wireless Source and distributes 50% of the money received to MSF. The market value for the items is dependant on the model and age of the phone and is always changing. Wireless Source is a global distributor of new, used, and remanufactured wireless phones. They provide wireless operators, manufacturers, and distributors with high quality, less expensive products and services to meet the growing international demand for wireless phones.

All makes and models, regardless of working condition are accepted. Any electronics that cannot be reused or refurbished will be smelted and recycled, thus reducing the amount of electronic waste in landfills. Cellular phones and other small electronic devices such as pagers, PDA’s, and music players contain toxins such as lead and mercury that can leak out of landfills and contaminate sources of drinking water.

“Donations of electronics not only save the environment from toxic waste but it benefits charities, like Doctors Without Borders. We are thrilled to be helping such a worthy organization who provides much needed medical care for so many people worldwide,” Said Dwight Zahringer, co-founder of Recycling for Charities. “We hope that people will see that cell phone recycling is an easy, tax-deductible way to protect our environment and donate to an international aid organization.”

Doctors Without Borders is an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care in more than 70 countries. About Recycling for Charities

RFC is an organization that collects unwanted electronics from individuals to be refurbished or smelted in an effort to keep these items out of landfills. For every electronic item that is refurbished, RFC donates half the proceeds to the donor’s charity of choice and uses the other half to continue their recycling efforts. Donations of these electronic items are tax deductible. Donation receipts can be printed off RFC’s website and are automatically generated when you donate online. ANT+ Enables Real Time Tour de France Race Coverage

ANT+ Enables Real Time Tour de France Race Coverage

Collaboration with Google, HTC and SRM links viewers to bike speed, cadence, power and heart rate data via ANT+. Now viewers can track HTC-Columbia riders and stats in real-time.

Cochrane, Alberta (PRWEB) July 12, 2010

ANT Wireless ("ANT" www. thisisant. com), a division of Dynastream Innovations Inc., today announces a successful collaboration of ANT+ wireless interoperability with HTC phones, Google’s My Tracks Android application and SRM’s ANT+ sensors.
For the first time ever, this partnership enables worldwide web broadcasting of real-time Tour data via off-the-shelf monitoring devices through a cell phone:
HTC-Columbia team cyclists use ANT+ enabled, coin cell operated monitoring devices and carry HTC Legend phone in pocket. ANT+ coin cell operated devices talk directly to HTC phone. This is possible because ANT+ is now integrated into Android phones with the Texas Instruments WiLink™ chip. Google MyTracks application receives sensor data including power, speed, cadence and heart rate. Sensor and GPS data from HTC Legend is transmitted over the cellular phone network to the internet. Google streams data to the world.

Initiated by former pro cyclist and current Googler, Dylan Casey, this project is designed to allow broadcasters and fans to get even closer to the action with real-time physiological data. www. google. com/mytrackstour (http://www. google. com/mytrackstour)

“Now, you can track your favorite HTC-Columbia rider and his stats in real-time because ANT+ enables the collection of his data and transfers it with HTC and Google,” stated Dylan Casey, Product Manager, Google Inc. “And this application goes far beyond cycling. A phone with ANT+ can enable the capture of all kinds of data.”

Renowned for exceptional pairing and the elimination of interference issues, ANT+ enables practical solutions and is ideal for the Tour de France setting.

“Our intention from day one has been to deliver a product that just works,” declared Rod Morris, Director, ANT Wireless. “Cycling is a phenomenal example of an industry where top players come together to find the very best end-to-end solutions. The Tour takes this to a whole new level.”

SRM, another key player in this first-ever Tour data feed, has been the gold standard of power measurement for top professionals in cycling, triathlon and the serious athlete for 20 years. The SRM Training System with ANT+ measures and displays real-time data with reliability and accuracy that is unmatched in the cycling industry.

The ANT+ protocol is now embedded in Texas Instruments’ WiLink chip and a standard component in multiple cell phones and is designed specifically for applications requiring small footprints, ultra-low-power, and superior functionality. Currently, there are over 200 commercially-available ANT+ enabled products for sport, fitness, and health. http://www. thisisant. com/modules/mod_product-directory. php (http://www. thisisant. com/modules/mod_product-directory. php)

ANT has gained a great deal of momentum in the global marketplace with premier products such as Nordic Semiconductor’s AP1 and AP2 family and TI’s WiLink. A family of network node products will be also be available from Texas Instruments starting Q4 2010. All ANT parts support ANT+.

THRASS Synthetic Phonics Programme: Helping to Realise Dreams in Zimbabwe

THRASS Synthetic Phonics Programme: Helping to Realise Dreams in Zimbabwe

The highly successful THRASS synthetic phonics programme has for some time been described as heralding the start of a new era in the teaching of English in Africa. Now, following two recent workshops in Harare and Nyanga, it is helping to realise the dreams of many children, parents, teachers and others in the education sector in Zimbabwe, including Government Ministers and officials.

(PRWEB) September 2, 2009

The highly successful THRASS synthetic phonics programme has for some time been described as heralding the start of a new era in the teaching of English in Africa. Now, following two recent workshops in Harare and Nyanga, it is helping to realise the dreams of many children, parents, teachers and others in the education sector in Zimbabwe, including Government Ministers and officials.

For any nation to grow and prosper it is essential to have a workforce that is literate and the workshops were part of a project to improve literacy in Zimbabwe being run by British couple Alan and Hilary Davies, working with World Links Zimbabwe and the Swiss-based Solon Foundation.

The Davies first introduced the THRASS (Teaching Handwriting Reading And Spelling Skills) synthetic phonics programme into pilot schools in and around Harare in 2008 using the innovative THRASS SING-A-LONG resources that include the most fantastic interactive software and are considered to be the best way of introducing THRASS where resources are limited. The pilot was an immediate success and in April 2009 the Government gave them permission to extend the project by funding training for teachers at the original pilot schools and including additional pilot schools in Nyanga District.

The workshops were for teachers from those pilot schools and formed part of a new training programme developed by THRASS UK that focuses first on SING-A-LONG before moving on to the more traditional THRASS training and which has already been used with enormous success in Nigeria. The completion of the workshops, funded by Alan and Hilary Davies, means that 100 teachers have now been trained, along with several education officials from both the Ministry of Education and Nyanga District.

And the workshops have been an enormous success. "Brilliant! This workshop will go down in history as one of the major milestones in the reawakening of the education system in Zimbabwe." "From today my pupils will be able to spell, write and read fluently." "It's just been brilliant and it's a dream come true for me." "Wonderful. The information will not only empower Zimbabwean children but parents, college students, and people who work with English." "I wish I had known about THRASS before; I can see the future of our children bright." These were just some of the comments of teachers attending the workshops.

But it wasn't just the teachers who were impressed. The Government of Zimbabwe fully supports THRASS and several officials from the Ministry of Education and from Nyanga District also attended. Afterwards, Pheobe Musakan, Materials Production Officer (English), said of THRASS, "An eye opener and very educative. I hope that it will cascade to all schools in Zimbabwe as well as teacher training colleges." And John Sithole, Acting Deputy Director, Education Technology Centre, described THRASS as "an exciting programme that empowers teachers to teach aspects of language effectively and efficiently, while affording learners an opportunity to enjoy learning."

There are 44 THRASS SING-A-LONG songs that teachers and parents can sing with children to explain the 44 sounds and 120 main spelling choices of English. The songs are real fun, give everyone a lift and really motivate children to learn. The words and music for the songs were written by South African music teacher Janine Plunkett and they all have really memorable tunes in different musical styles and dance rhythms from around the world, and wonderful imaginative titles such as "The moon fell out of the sky", "A great big gorilla" and "You don't get pandas in Africa". And as well as being fun, singing can benefit children in many different ways: it's good for their physical health and also for their emotional well-being, as it can help them express their emotions, and increase their confidence and communication skills. It has also been shown to accelerate learning and improve memory.

But THRASS doesn't just help with the teaching and learning of English. There are also printable and interactive THRASS Calendar Charts to help with early language learning of Shona and other African, Asian and European languages that can be downloaded free-of-charge from the THRASS website.

It is an indication of the significance of THRASS that in South Africa it is being sponsored by Absa Bank, a member of the Barclays Group, through the THRASS Absa TalkTogether Project, a unique educational partnership that is aiming to revolutionise the teaching and learning of language through partnerships between primary schools, universities and other organisations. To date, over 5,000 teachers and student teachers have earned the THRASS Accredited Certificate, which is already a compulsory module for Foundation Phase student teachers at six universities, with 1,000 of these having been sponsored by the TalkTogether Project.

The Government of Zimbabwe believes that THRASS is "a worthwhile innovation that should be pursued with a view to rolling it out for the benefit of all schools in the country" and Alan Davies, Executive Director of THRASS UK, has already met Minister of Education, David Coltart, to discuss proposals for extending the project further.

The enthusiasm with which THRASS has been received by everyone involved and the possibility of its wider implementation means that the future for teaching English to the children of Zimbabwe certainly looks bright and the dreams of many there are already starting to be realised.

The THRASS extensive picture-based training website with easy access to a wide range of resources and support materials, and extensive evidence of the widespread success of THRASS is at www. thrass. co. uk/teaching. htm (http://www. thrass. co. uk/teaching. htm)

MonaVie Announces Pulse: The New Heart-Healthy Açai Beverage

MonaVie Announces Pulse: The New Heart-Healthy Açai Beverage

MonaVie (www. monavie. com), maker of the premier blend of the Brazilian açai berry, announces today the launch of a new product in its line of functional beverages—MonaVie Pulse. A scientifically formulated açai infusion, new MonaVie Pulse was created to support the cardiovascular system and help maintain existing healthy cholesterol levels.

SALT LAKE CITY (PRWEB) September 25, 2008

MonaVie Pulse will be available to consumers in the United States on Friday, September 26, 2008, through MonaVie's network of independent distributors. Preview new MonaVie Pulse.

"MonaVie is pleased to introduce the first açai beverage to address the demand for foods delivering heart beneficial ingredients, as consumer concerns over heart related issues continue to increase," says Vice President of Product Management, Jeff Graham. "What better timing than during National Cholesterol Education Month to introduce MonaVie Pulse and educate our distributor workforce on heart healthy habits which are a pivotal part of MonaVie's health and wellness mission."

As a companion to MonaVie Original and Active products, the new MonaVie Pulse formula is enriched with plant sterols, which studies suggest play a key factor in lowering cholesterol. The new functional beverage serves as a natural and convenient alternative to encapsulated nutritional supplements, delivering a powerful dose of antioxidants and phytonutrients that nutritionally support cardiovascular health. The heart-healthy formula contains a blend of plant sterols, resveratrol and omega 3 fatty acids.

"A daily serving of MonaVie Pulse gives you 0.8 grams per day of plant sterols, delivering the benefits you need to potentially impact the health of your heart," says Graham.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, foods containing at least 0.4 grams per serving of plant sterols, eaten twice daily with meals for a daily total intake of at least 0.8 grams and as a part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.

The MonaVie formula is a blend of 19 fruits, including the antioxidant-rich açai berry as the foundation ingredient. Açai contains concentrated levels of anthocyanins—a family of antioxidants that assists in neutralizing the harmful effects free radicals can have on the body. Unsaturated fats found in the açai fruit at unusually high concentrations facilitate the fruit's antioxidant compounds. On a gram-for-gram basis, MonaVie's freeze-dried açai has a higher ORAC score—a measure of antioxidant power—than any other fruit or vegetable tested to date (J Agric Food Chem., 2006: 54(22):8604-10).

Not-for-Profit Organizations Benefit from Corporate Marketing Strategies

Not-for-Profit Organizations Benefit from Corporate Marketing Strategies

Not-for-proft organizations know the importance of branding, but many need help on how to do it successfully. Here is a brief synopsis of an article originally published in The Chronicle of Philanthropy that explains best practices.

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2007

Building a brand image that helps attract clients and donors, recruit employees, and convey clear, persuasive messages can be every bit as effective for not-for-profit groups as it is for the corporate sector. In an article published in the October 4 issue of The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Peter Rogovin, Founder of Next Level Strategic Marketing Group, and Robert C. Wilburn, President of the Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum Foundation, discuss the misconceptions that often undermine not-for-profit marketing efforts.

The article offers suggestions on how to overcome them:
Everyone within the organization must understand the need for brand-building,  Avoid the consensus trap and realize that creating a strong brand is not a democracy.  View the brand effort is an investment that does not hurt the services provided by the charity,  Define what makes the not-for-profit competitive by the constituent's perceptions rather than by its cause.  Structural differences between corporations and non-profits make it imperative for the chief executive to play a critical role.

The full text of the article can be read by visiting Next Level Strategic Marketing Group (http://www. nextlevelsmg/press/news. php)

Peter Rogovin is the Founder and Managing Director of Next Level Strategic Marketing Group (www. nextlevelsmg. com), Pleasantville, NY, a firm that builds brand and business strategies in industries that include not-for-profit organizations, beverages, supermarkets, home appliances, financial services, medical products, health care, and electric utilities.

Robert C. Wilburn has served as head of four nonprofit organizations-- including the Carnegie Institute and Colonial Williamsburg. He is currently president of the Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum Foundation, an organization that seeks to preserve the grounds and educate Americans about the Civil War site.

Revival Soy Introduces Unique All-Vegetable Vitamin E Pill

Revival Soy Introduces Unique All-Vegetable Vitamin E Pill

Revival Soy Introduces Unique All-Vegetable Vitamin E Pill

KERNERSVILLE, NC (PRWEB) September 24, 2004

Physicians Laboratories, makers of the #1 doctor-recommended Revival Soy protein supplement, is introducing a new Vitamin E supplement with a capsule made entirely from vegetable cellulose – a rarity amongst vitamin E capsules which are usually made from beef gelatin.

This product is free of animal gelatin, binders, compression agents, fillers, colors, preservatives, flavors, sugar, starch, salt, wheat, gluten, yeast, potassium, chloride, lactose and dairy products. Because of its natural, all-vegetable composition, RevivalÂ’s Firm Foundation Vitamin E is ideal for a vegetarian or vegan diet.

“Vegetarians and vegans have a hard time finding vitamins because most capsules are made with an animal gelatin. This all-vegetable capsule not only benefits the vegetarian and vegan communities, but is a healthier choice for everyone. Vegetable capsules are easier to digest and are less temperature-sensitive than gelatin capsules,” says Dr. Aaron Tabor, Medical Research Director and CEO of Physicians Laboratories.

Revival Soy’s new Vitamin E is a natural-source (d-Alpha) vitamin, which is retained longer and is twice as likely to get to the parts of your body that need it most – like the heart and brain.

Vitamin E is a key player in the body's defense system. An antioxidant, it protects the lungs, nervous system, skeletal muscle and the eye's retina from damage by free radicals (cell-damaging chemicals). It also protects cell membranes and is believed to slow aging of cells. It helps form red blood cells and protects them from being destroyed. It may also reduce the risk of heart disease by protecting against atherosclerosis (the buildup of fat in the arteries).

A 30-day supply of Revival Soy Vitamin E is $6.95 and is not sold in stores. To order, call

1-800-REVIVAL or visit www. soy. com.

The Bad Boy Beverage Company Has Launched A Low-Price Energy Drink To Challenge Red Bull GmbH

The Bad Boy Beverage Company Has Launched A Low-Price Energy Drink To Challenge Red Bull GmbH

With a natural energy level more than two and a half times higher than that of a Red Bull Energy Drink, it's no wonder Bong Water is fast becoming the c-store energy drink of choice.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) May 29, 2005

The Bad Boy Beverage Company, announced today the official re-launch of its premium line of vitamin fortified energy drinks called Bong Water® Energized Soft Drinks. With a natural energy level more than two and a half times higher than that of a Red Bull Energy Drink, it's no wonder Bong Water is fast becoming the c-store energy drink of choice. What's more, along with all the vitamins and other nutraceuticals, they put in Bong Water, yet it still has about the same buzz [caffeine] as a regular cup of Starbucks coffee. Bong Water will give you a quick energy boost and increase your alertness, but it won't give you the "jitters" or set your teeth on edge, and it lets you down smooth and easy, no hypoglycemic blood sugar drop that leaves you feeling brain dead or exhausted.

In addition to its maximum energy formulation, Bong Water's cool retro flavors: Purple Haze, Green Dreams, Rasta Cherry and Doo Whut?, overcome the current negative of most energy drinks; their medicine-like taste. And, unlike other energy drinks in dinky little cans, Bong Water delivers more bang for your buck at $1.39 to 1.69 at retail in its stylish 16.9 ounce PET bottle wrapped in attractive, eye-catching, and vibrantly colored labels that will let everyone know that you're not drinking 'the usual' ho-hum soda or a me-too knock off energy drink.

In the faded hippie tradition of Ben & Jerry's, the Vermont-based ice cream maker, founded back in '78 in a renovated gas station by childhood friends Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, Bad Boy founders Mike Holley and Toby McBride hope to turn their Bong Water pipe dream into a profitable reality like Ben & Jerry's nostalgic tribute to guitarist Jerry Garcia, the freewheeling, tie-dye wearing lead singer of "The Grateful Dead" with their ever popular Cherry Garcia Ice Cream.

Mike and Toby have a combined total of over 30 year's beverage industry experience. They have managed major brands such as SoBe and AriZona Iced Tea. In early 2004, they purchased the Bong Water brand from Real Things Distributing. Since that time, they have re-formulated all of the flavors with leading flavor guru Ira Scott of XETEX Beverage Group. "We are not promoting any form of illegal drug or alcohol usage or abuse." explains Bad Boy Beverage President; Toby McBride. "We are just promoting having fun, enjoying life, and staying in control and lucid while spoofing the 'high time's' the 60's & 70's with our legal, healthier high of the new millennium!" said McBride.

"With an authentic product from a taste, ingredients and nutraceutical standpoint, Bong Water is expected to attract consumers away from popular energy drinks like Red Bull and Rock Star," says Richard H. Davis, President of Beverage Marketing USA, Inc., "The start-up company has even captured the attention and investments from Silicon Valley and the boutique venture-capital firm Growth Capital Group and entrepreneur Gary Nelson, the main driving force behind the 1960s retro-style brand of beverages." says Davis.

Wastewater Treatment Ponds: Solar-Powered Circulators Provide Barrier to Noxious Odors at Shell Oil Martinez Refinery

Wastewater Treatment Ponds: Solar-Powered Circulators Provide Barrier to Noxious Odors at Shell Oil Martinez Refinery

Solar-powered circulators provide reliable wastewater odor control to prevent health hazards, public outrage and air quality citations –- along with major savings.

Dickinson, ND (PRWEB) May 17, 2005

In wastewater treatment (http://www. solarbee. com), the prevention of odors escaping from storage ponds is so problematic it is a disaster-waiting-to-happen. Even an occasional lapse in maintaining an effective odor cap can have dire consequences including health hazards, public outrage, and even shutdowns.

Such scenarios are not limited to sludge storage ponds. Industrial storage basins holding manufacturing effluents, and even rainwater, contain odor-producing sulfurous compounds that can waft over communities unless capped effectively.

“We are very concerned about maintaining an odor cap,” says David Williams, Project Engineer at Shell Oil for the Martinez, California refinery. “Our wastewater treatment (http://www. solarbee. com) pond is about 1/4 mile from the residential community. We’ve got a delicate situation where even just a slight amount of odor could arouse complaints from the community.”

WilliamÂ’s concern about wastewater odor control led him to looking for a new aeration technology to replace two brush aerators that had been attributed to incidents that produced odor complaints from local residents.

The solution was the SolarBee, a solar-powered water “circulator” from Pump Systems (www. solarbee. com) that aerates ponds by circulating the top two feet of water at a rate of up to 10,000 gallons per minute. This circulation occurs with a gentle, “near laminar” long-distance flow pattern that provides an oxygenated odor cap across the entire surface 24 hours a day.

This solution provided impressive cost savings. “Because the wastewater treatment pond is at a remote location, we had been using rented diesel generators to power the brush aerators,” Williams explains. The total rental costs for testing that system was about $15,000 a month. The alternative of powering the site from the grid would have cost up to $150,000 due to the remote location and electrical classification. As an added bonus, SolarBees reduce energy costs by $10,000/year compared to hard-wired aerators.

Williams reports that since the installation of the circulator systems, the Martinez wastewater treatment (http://www. solarbee. com) pond “has had zero odor complaints due to inadequate aeration.”

Solo Practice Cuts Overhead by More Than $70,000 for Less than $400 Per Month and No Debt

Solo Practice Cuts Overhead by More Than $70,000 for Less than $400 Per Month and No Debt

SimplifyMD, a company that specializes in improving physician income, reducing work hours and streamlining operations, today announced that the Woodson Center for Adult Healthcare, located in Chicago Heights, Illinois has released the results of their Digital Chart Room™ implementation.

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) April 15, 2010

simplifyMD, a company that specializes in improving physician income, reducing work hours and streamlining operations, today announced that the Woodson Center for Adult Healthcare, located in Chicago Heights, Illinois has released the results of their Digital Chart Room™ implementation.

Founded in 2001, the Woodson Center for Adult Healthcare was established by Dr. Cheryl Woodson, who is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. Dr. Woodson wanted to be proactively prepared to comply with meaningful use guidelines of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) but didn't want to spend thousands of dollars on a solution to meet rules that were not set in stone. Also, as a geriatrician, Dr. Woodson was spending a lot of time on paperwork, especially due to Medicare, so she wanted a solution that made it possible for her and her staff to maintain the integrity of her charts.

“I knew I needed to go paperless to keep my practice viable, and the simplifyMD system was not only much more affordable than other similar options but also very easy to use,” remarked Dr. Woodson, Director of the Woodson Center. "In addition to helping me cut approximately $70,000 in overhead over 18 months, simplifyMD has had a positive impact on my quality of life. I can sign charts and do labs from my home without drowning in paperwork, and now my office staff and I can access a chart at the same time."

Another benefit simplifyMD provided for the Woodson Center was the ability to downsize from three full time and one part time staff members to only one full time employee by not having to replace those positions as certain staff members left her practice. Plus, the simplifyMD system allows Dr. Woodson to keep up with ARRA guidelines and have the related updates made at no cost.

“Dr. Woodson provides amazing, specialized care to her patients, and our system lets her focus more on those patients and less on paperwork,” stated Matt Ethington, President of simplifyMD. "We're pleased that we can provide the Woodson Center with the kind of solution they need on an affordable, pay as you go basis."

Sports Doctor to Professional Athletes and Weekend Warriors Alike, Dr. Mark Sanders’ Approach Is Anything But Conventional

Sports Doctor to Professional Athletes and Weekend Warriors Alike, Dr. Mark Sanders’ Approach Is Anything But Conventional

Dr. Mark Sanders’ love of medicine runs a close race with his love of sports – each inspiring the other. He has learned over the years how to help athletes avoid injury through proper training and find the fastest way back to their sport when a serious injury does occur. Working with such elite athletes as St. Louis Rams’ Kevin Garrett and former motocross professional Sean Kirby, he continues to raise the bar in medical achievements.

HOUSTON (PRWEB) October 18, 2005

“I want to see my guys back in the game or next competition, not in my office. Once I give them the tools to work through an injury, their desire to get back to their sport gets them the rest of the way. And that’s the key to the success of our Accelerated Rehabilitation program,” said Dr. Mark Sanders.

“When you combine this ‘can do’ attitude with the real possibility that an ACL Reconstruction or Rotator Cuff repair doesn’t have to bench you for anymore than a handful of strength-building weeks, then you’re over half way there,” he added.

Dr. Sanders opened the Sanders Clinic for Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Twelve Oaks Medical Center just over a year ago and today works with athletes from across the United States and Mexico. Specializing in knee and shoulder instability problems, his reconditioning program and healthful whole-body approach to addressing an injury is yielding astounding results and raising eyebrows within the medical profession.

“I’ve learned a lot about what to do to my body, from knowing Dr. Sanders and his trainers over the last few years. They didn’t want me to change what I was doing – just strengthen the muscles I needed to do them with,” said former New York Mets baseball player Darryl Hamilton.

“People hear so much about what modern technology can do that they think surgery will make it better. But, it’s not always the best thing,” added Hamilton.

Dr. Sanders is the official healthcare provider for the Houston THQ Supercross and serves as the “Sports Doc” moderator on a number of online sports forums – helping young athletes understand how some serious injuries can be avoided and the best way to address them when they happen.

H Texas magazine listed Dr. Sanders again this year among one of Houston’s Top Docs and Texas CitySports magazine runs a periodic advice column, Ask the Sports Doctor, addressing common questions Dr. Sanders receives.

PWN Announces That Consumers Can Now Store webLAB Test Results In Their Microsoft HealthVault Account

PWN Announces That Consumers Can Now Store webLAB Test Results In Their Microsoft HealthVault Account

Each day more consumers are turning to webLAB to save time and money by ordering general wellness lab tests online. Physicians Wellness Network (PWN) today announced that consumers can now store, track and trend their webLAB test results in their Microsoft HealthVault account. HealthVault is an open, Web-based platform designed to empower consumers by putting them in control of their health information.

Jackson, WY (PRWEB) March 23, 2009

Each day more consumers are turning to webLAB to save time and money by ordering general wellness lab tests online. Physicians Wellness Network (PWN) today announced that consumers can now store, track and trend their webLAB test results in their Microsoft HealthVault account. HealthVault is an open, Web-based platform designed to empower consumers by putting them in control of their health information.

Informed Consumers Make Better Health Choices
"PWN physicians know that informed consumers make better health choices. Storing webLAB test results in a Microsoft HealthVault account makes this possible," said Brent Blue, M. D., president of PWN. "When people can track and trend important numbers, such as their cholesterol levels, they are armed with information to manage their health choices."

WebLAB on HealthVault
Consumers no longer need to wait for weeks nor spend money on multiple doctor visit co-pays to get a basic wellness lab test. Instead, webLAB allows consumers to order up to four basic lab tests online with results delivered in days. Tests start at $54.95 and include a Diabetes Risk Assessment, General Wellness Assessment, Heart Risk Assessment and Prostate Cancer Risk Assessment. Consumers can download the results to their HealthVault account where they can track and trend webLAB test results for as long as they hold an account.

Consumers can also access webLAB through Live Search Health search results. webLAB is a mini-application that is displayed alongside search results and relevant to a customer's search query.

"Giving people the ability to move their health and wellness data online is an important step towards empowering informed health choices, made in partnership with their providers," said David Cerino, general manager for the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft Corp. "Storing and tracking webLAB test results in a HealthVault account enables consumers and their caregivers to view and monitor health information for improved health management and quality of care."

Medically Compliant, Consumer-Selected Lab Testing
After a consumer selects a test, a PWN physician in the consumer's own state reviews the order. The consumer can then visit a nearby laboratory drawing station for a blood sample, or a phlebotomist can conveniently take the sample at the consumer's own home or office.
Lab tests results are then reviewed by the same physician who approved the order and forwarded to the consumer in a matter of days from the time the specimen is collected. Results are easy to understand and securely stored for consumers to compare and trend future lab test results. In the event of a critical value (abnormal test result) PWN will contact the consumer directly.

About webLAB
WebLAB is a safe and secure Internet platform with lab orders and results processed in a way that is medically responsible and compliant with state and federal government regulations as well as HIPAA regulations including privacy. PWN's webLAB is available to consumer aggregators like HealthVault, who benefit from a turnkey lab services portal that connect consumers, physicians and laboratory professionals.

New Home Dispenser Helps Boost the Delivery of Natural Mineral Water from Blenheim to the Doorstep

A new funky dispenser designed especially for the home, is boosting the doorstep delivery of quality natural mineral water sourced from the estate of Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The dispenser, provided by Love Water, offers a fun way for children to choose water instead of sugary drinks and is a healthy option for parents too.

(PRWEB) January 7, 2006

A new funky dispenser designed especially for the home, is boosting the doorstep delivery of quality natural mineral water sourced from the estate of Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. The dispenser, provided by Love Water, offers a fun way for children to choose water instead of sugary drinks and is a healthy option for parents too – especially for those who have made the traditional 'never again!' New Year's resolution. The new unit is also expected to be popular with fitness fans with home gyms or those who just want the latest 'must have' device for their new kitchen.

Nick Swan of Love Water explained, “Water is good for you. Re-hydration after the New Year Eve’s excesses is always a popular topic. However hydration is a serious issue, it is well known that water is important for good health and fitness, but studies also suggest drinking water contributes to better concentration. This is particularly important for children.”

For just £5.46, Love Water delivers an 11 litre bottle of mineral water to the door step. This is very competitive compared with the supermarket cost of quality natural mineral water and it saves carrying an additional heavy load. As the empty 11 litre bottle is collected as part of the service, it is also environmentally friendly as no plastic or glass bottles are added to waste tips.

The dispenser is available in a range of colours including, black, silver, grey and beech to match most kitchen, dining room, conservatory, study and home gym decors. A dispenser costs just £199 or can be rented for £11.75 per month. For those wishing to take up a healthier lifestyle sooner, the company is currently giving 10 percent discount on the dispenser until the end of January.

Nick concluded, “We are so pleased with the take up of the dispenser in the South East, that we are researching the possibilities of bringing the service and the high quality mineral water from Blenheim to other UK regions.”

Those thirsty for a free trial or information about the dispenser and Blenheim water should visit lovewater. com.

Acne Rosacea Breakthrough Treatment

Acne Rosacea Breakthrough Treatment

Backed with 30 years clinical research, Acne, Rosacea, Psoriasis, Eczema cause identified.

Sault Sainte Marie, MI (PRWEB) January 22, 2007

A new line of products has been launched to fight Rosacea, Psoriasis and Eczema, called the Face Doctor, available at www. facedoctor. ca.

The skin is the body's largest organ. It is continually regenerating itself, forming new cells as old cells die and are shed. The skin is also a host to many organisms such as bacteria, viruses, mites and other parasites. These organisms live with us in a symbiotic state. It is only when a normal balance is disturbed that skin diseases present themselves.

Acne and acne rosacea are two conditions that can crop up at any time and affect the appearance of the skin. Red, rough or lumpy skin are usual presentations of rosacea. Hair loss is also a symptom. For fair skinned individuals, rosacea is more easily seen.

Research has been ongoing in all parts of the world to combat rosacea infection. Many people find relief but others seem to be resistant to these treatments.

In China, research has concentrated on a parasite called human demodex folliculorum mite. This microscopic worm infects over 98 per cent of adults, living in hair follicles or on hair or eyelashes. They also may reside in sebaceous glands of the face.

A line of products has been formulated to address infestation by demodex. It is called Face Doctor. It is available in soap, cream and shampoo products. Face Doctor products use herbal ingredients to fight the parasite. The main ingredient is seabuckthorn oil. Several other ingredients, such as Vitamin E and aloe vera are added to soothe and protect the skin. Seabuckthorn Oil - Seabuckthorn is an extraordinary plant that has been recognized for centuries in Eurasia for its exceptional medicinal and nutritional benefits. The oil of seabuckthorn has general nourishing, revitalizing, and restorative action and can be used for acne, dermatitis, irritated, dry, itching skin, sore skin, eczema, skin ulcers, postpartum pigmentation, burns, scalds, cuts, and tissue regeneration. The stimulation of tissue regeneration is helpful in the treatment of burns, bedsores, poorly healing wounds. It helps reduce damaging effects of sun radiation. Seabuckthorn oil effectively combats wrinkles, dryness and other symptoms of malnourished or prematurely aging skin and is utilized in anti-aging skin creams and lotions. The berries appear to be an unsurpassed natural source of vitamins A and E, carotenes and flavonoids. Seabuckthorn berries are second only to Rose hips and Acerola in vitamin C content. They are also rich in several other vitamins, including B1, B2, K and P as well as in more than two dozens of microelements. Furthermore, berries have remarkably high content of essential fatty acids and phytosterols. Taken internally, it can help prevent gums from bleeding, recuperate mucous membranes, heal peptic and duodenal ulcers, urinary tract and cervical erosion, solar and cancer radiation injuries and is a source of carotenes, phytosterols, and EFAs. The restorative action of the Seabuckthorn oil may be in part due to its high content of essential fatty acids, carotenes, tocopherols and phytosterols, which are all important for the maintenance of a healthy skin.

HomelandDefenseStocks. com: Wireless Data Communication Technology News for Emergency Response and Homeland Security

HomelandDefenseStocks. com, (HDS), an investor news portal for the Homeland Defense and Security Sector, is pleased to report on developments in Wireless Data Communications Technology for the emergency response and homeland security sectors. The utilization of wireless technology to communicate critical information to the right person at the right time during the early stages of an emergency event is critical to homeland security.

POINT ROBERTS, WA & Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) July 28, 2004

www.

Wireless technology companies and systems integrators are competing for market share as wireless technology is utilized to move time-critical and time-sensitive information to and from first responders. Players in the sector since 9/11 include: Flarion Technologies Inc., a wireless broadband technology provider partnered with Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics TalkSECURE™ wireless phone, RSA Security Inc. and small innovators like Aether Systems Inc, Roaming Messenger, Inc (OTCBB: RMSG) and Aegis Assessments Inc. The need for secure and reliable means of communications in homeland defense and emergency response is driving technology and innovation.

Wireless phone use has exploded, and so have wireless 9-1-1 calls. According to a July 20th report by Research and Markets, 150,000 cellular emergency 9-1-1 calls are made each day. ”This has enormous implications with respect to the design of our public safety system and overall how we approach homeland security, and how federal, state, and local officials develop and implement policy and allocate funds. Wall Street needs to understand how wireless 911 will be deployed, who the players are, and how allocated funds will flow and be utilized.” (http://www. researchandmarkets. com (http://www. researchandmarkets. com)).

"Homeland security clearly represents an outstanding market opportunity for wireless broadband companies. This was proven in the immediate aftermath of 9/11, when some Wireless Communications Association (WCA) member companies were recruited to install high capacity emergency systems in lower Manhattan and at the Pentagon. It has continued since with applications ranging from novel communications for the military and also, closer to home, in border security and police patrols. We think it important to recognize, however, that the government procurement process is quite different from the commercial market and thus requires different approaches. We have seen already that those who do not adapt will not succeed in this opportunity." Andrew Kreig, President, WCA (http://www. wcai. com (http://www. wcai. com)).

As wireless technology enters the sector, there have also been concerns addressed that wireless technology could potentially facilitate unauthorized access to wired networks and data by eavesdropping or theft. Richard Clarke, former special adviser to the President for cybersecurity, has stated that "industry needs to set security practices and assessments that will prevent terrorists from breaching wireless security".

HDS does not make recommendations, but offers a unique, free information portal to investors to research news, articles, interviews and a growing list of participating public companies, including featured sponsoring companies.

Featured Company:

Roaming Messenger, Inc (OTCBB: RMSG)

Roaming Messenger, Inc. provides “smart courier" solutions for delivering real-time information for homeland security, emergency response, military and enterprise applications. Unlike solutions based on existing messaging technology such as e-mail, text messaging, and voicemail, Roaming Messenger packages time-critical information into "smart courier" packages. These packages automatically roam throughout the wired and wireless worlds - from mobile devices to desktop PCs to central servers - tracking down people and getting responses in real-time. To date, no other technology has been able to deliver this form of messaging.

FirstWatch's “Early Warning Biosurvelliance” System monitors calls at 9-1-1 dispatch centers and automatically detects anomalies in call patterns. If, for example, an increase in respiratory problems is detected in a certain area, the FirstWatch system detects the anomaly and automatically dispatches an alert to the appropriate authority - the CDC or the Director of Health Services, police, fire, or other appropriate responder - alerting them to the fact that there is an increase in respiratory problems and that might indicate a bio-terror release or a SARS outbreak. The FirstWatch system has been chosen to protect more than 11 million people in 15 States.

"Our customers are at the city and county government level" says Todd Stout, founder and CEO of Stout Solutions Inc., parent company of FirstWatch. “Most of their budgets have been positively impacted from Homeland Security funding, but we are not a direct recipient. Roaming Messenger has a great product, and like most new advanced technologies, consumers need to be educated to the significance of the technology and really understand the need for secure info communication. Now that Roaming Messenger has integrated their technology into regular devices such as text messaging, we see it making further strides into the commercial pipeline."

FirstWatch and Roaming Messenger have entered an agreement to use their system to deliver time-critical information relating to 9-1-1 anomalies to public safety agencies, emergency management organizations and public health agencies, tracking down the appropriate individuals and allowing them to interact directly with the FirstWatch system.

Other Companies in the sector:

Aether Systems, Inc. - a wireless data solutions company - recently announced the Peabody, Massachusetts Police Department has officers with their wireless handheld devices to help fight crime. Aether's PocketBlue(TM) handheld solution allows officers performing duties outside their squad cars to access criminal information quickly and securely.

Aegis Assessments Inc provides wireless security solutions to public safety agencies and commercial security companies with SafetyNet™ Wireless Life Safety System. It is designed to provide facility managers with an emergency management system that includes broadband video, audio, and other data from life safety devices that can be shared with public safety agencies.

KidSmart Coordinator Puts Health Care Future on Hold to Serve Children in Need

KidSmart Coordinator Puts Health Care Future on Hold to Serve Children in Need

Jocelyn Bosch fulfills one year service to KidSmart-Tools for Learning.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) February 7, 2004

Service was always an integral part of Jocelyn BoschÂ’s life. So when she had the opportunity to put a future career in the health care industry on hold to dedicate a year of her life to service, she jumped at the chance. For the past year, Bosch has served as a full-time volunteer for KidSmart - Tools for Learning.

During her year of service, Bosch designed and implemented a volunteer program for KidSmart, a free educational supply store that equips children with the necessary educational materials to learn. Her efforts turned into a thriving program with more than 600 volunteers.

“When I first heard about KidSmart, I was amazed at the immense need for educational materials in the St. Louis area,” said Bosch. “I was driven to help students that wanted to learn, but lacked the necessary tools.”

Thanks in part to Bosch and four other full-time volunteers serving through the Americorps VISTA program, KidSmart has grown to provide more than 18,000 students with over $500,000 worth of free educational materials in the past two years. KidSmart strives to ensure that children and their classrooms in the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis area have the basic tools for learning by transferring, at not cost, the communityÂ’s surplus supplies and merchandise into the hands of children in need.

BoschÂ’s official term of service will end on Friday, Feb. 6. She does plan to volunteer at least once a week at KidSmart.

“Jocelyn was such an asset to KidSmart and our volunteer program,” said Ann Sheinbein, KidSmart’s VISTA supervisor. “She has a gift for making every volunteer feel special.”

Microwaves Corporation Introduces a Revolutionary New Method for Styling Hair

Microwaves Corporation Introduces a Revolutionary New Method for Styling Hair

The new Microwaves® Steam and Style® Heat Cap quickly and gently creates results rivaling those of curling irons and heat rollers, using conventional curlers, without damaging the hair

Beltsville, MD (PRWEB) February 8, 2010

The world of hair styling is about to change as Microwaves Corporation introduces the revolutionary new Microwaves® Steam and Style® Heat Cap (http://www. steamandstyle. com/). What at first glance appears to be a simple cotton cap, on closer inspection turns out to be a powerful tool that has the potential to reshape the entire hair styling industry.

The Microwaves® Heat Cap (http://www. heatcap. com/) provides a completely new method for rapid hair styling, creating incredible results in minutes, without damaging hair. The heat cap is warmed in a microwave oven, and placed over hair that has been set dry on any kind of standard curlers. The warm steamy air inside of the heat cap quickly and gently shapes the hair on the curlers, creating an unlimited variety of results ranging from smooth body styles to tight spiral curls (http://www. steamandstyle. com/). Until now, rapid hair curling, and hair damage went hand in hand. The heat cap changes everything, by providing unprecedented speed and versatility, without the damage.

"It’s absolutely revolutionary (http://www. heatcap. com/)," said French Superstylist Gabriel DeBakey of Salon Jean Paul of Washington D. C. Gabriel trained for years under the renowned Alexandre de Paris in Paris, and now his clientele regularly include royalty, first ladies, and Hollywood stars. His exceptional talent and experience has made him a trusted stylist for personalities such as Crownprincess Victoria of Sweden, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and 80's icon Kelly LeBrock.

"The heat cap allows me to quickly create advanced styles that would normally have taken over an hour," said Gabriel. "When I use the heat cap, I set the hair clean and dry. I cover the curlers with the heat cap for only about 2 or 3 minutes, and I’m ready to style. This is much faster and more comfortable than requiring my clientele to sit for 30 to 40 minutes under a hair dryer. The heat cap also allows greater flexibility, since I can now use any kind of standard curlers to curl hair in minutes."

Along with being versatile (http://www. heatcap. com/), the heat cap is also extremely quick and simple to use. First, the hair is set dry on any kind of conventional curlers. The heat cap is warmed in a microwave oven for a minute and a half, and then placed over the hair on the curlers for 2 to 3 minutes. The warm, steamy air generated by the microwave inside the heat cap, quickly and gently forms hair to the shape of the curlers. Heat cap is then removed, and the hair is allowed to cool for 2 to 3 minutes before unrolling. This cooling locks in curls and waves similar to those you would get by setting your hair damp, and sitting under a hair dryer for about a half hour, or sleeping in curlers overnight. With the heat cap, the hair is set dry, so these results can now be achieved in minutes. While curling irons work well for basic touch ups, it can be very time consuming to create a full style, since each curl must be held individually while the hair is heated. With the heat cap, all of the hair on the curlers is warmed at once, resulting in beautiful hair in a fraction of the time.

"The heat cap is made of several different layers of fabric, with an all natural dry filling quilted inside. The natural filling absorbs moisture from the air. When the heat cap is warmed in a microwave oven, a small amount of the trapped moisture is released, creating a warm, slightly steamy environment inside the heat cap", explained Carol Graves (http://www. steamandstyle. com/), inventor of the heat cap. "Much in the same way that dry white rice is used in salt shakers in many restaurants to absorb excess moisture. It's that simple."

This revolutionary steaming process provides all the results, with none of the pain or damage. Good Housekeeping Institute Laboratories tested the cap and gave it rave reviews (http://www. steamandstyle. com/). "Our chemist found damaged ends on swatches curled with the iron and the rollers, but not with the Heat Cap", stated the report.

Since the heat cap surrounds the hair on the curlers with warm, steamy air, it does not require scorching high temperatures and is not hot. Also, since the warm, steamy air completely surrounds the hair on the curlers, the heat cap can curl hair from the root to the tip, not just the ends. This process keeps hair healthier and fuller for years longer than conventional curling methods.

"I was shocked by how painless curling my hair could actually be", said Serena Chen, senior at the University of Maryland. "I've become so accustomed to curling iron burns, and hot, dry skin. I never imagined I'd actually enjoy getting ready...while the heat cap is on I'm free to move around, put on my makeup, and get ready to go. It's that easy"

The Microwaves® Steam and Style® Heat Cap is currently sold over the internet http://www. steamandstyle. com (http://www. steamandstyle. com), or by phone from Microwaves Corporation. (301) 864-6573.

Study Suggests Blood Test for Alzheimer's Possible

Study Suggests Blood Test for Alzheimer's Possible

Researchers have revealed a direct relationship between two specific antibodies and the severity of Alzheimer's disease symptoms, raising hopes that a diagnostic blood test for the devastating disorder is within reach.

Athens, GA (Vocus) March 11, 2009

Researchers have revealed a direct relationship between two specific antibodies and the severity of Alzheimer's disease (http://www. ninds. nih. gov/disorders/alzheimersdisease/alzheimersdisease. htm) symptoms, raising hopes that a diagnostic blood test for the devastating disorder is within reach.

Researchers from the University of Georgia, the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta and the Medical College of Georgia compared antibody levels in blood samples from 118 older adults with the participant's level of dementia. The team, whose results appear in the current edition of Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences (http://biomedgerontology. oxfordjournals. org/), found that the concentration of two specific proteins that are involved in the immune response increases as the severity of dementia increases.

"We found a strong and consistent relationship between two particular antibodies and the level of impairment," said study co-author L. Stephen Miller (http://www. uga. edu/psychology/faculty/smiller. html), professor and director of clinical psychology training in the UGA Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. "The finding brings us closer to our ultimate goal of developing a blood test that can diagnose Alzheimer's disease or potentially identify if someone is at higher risk for the disease."

Miller's co-authors include Jennifer S. Wilson, a former undergraduate student in the UGA Honors program who is now pursing graduate studies at Emory University; Shyamala Mruthinti, research pharmacologist at the VA Medical Center and adjunct professor at MCG; and Jerry Buccafusco, director of the MCG Alzheimer's Research Center (http://www. mcg. edu/centers/alz/). The team focused on antibodies that the body creates in response to two proteins that are associated with Alzheimer's disease. One protein, known as amyloid-beta, forms the plaques that are evident in the brains of people with Alzheimer's upon autopsy. The other protein, known as RAGE, is involved in the normal aging process but is expressed at higher levels in the brains of people with Alzheimer's.

In a previous study that compared a group of people with Alzheimer's disease to a healthy control group, Mruthinti and her colleagues found that anti-amyloid beta and anti-RAGE antibodies are significantly higher in the group with Alzheimer's. The team's latest study expands on that finding to reveal a direct relationship between severity of Alzheimer's disease and levels of the two antibodies in the blood.

"Alzheimer's is an inflammatory disease of the brain, and these two antibodies give us a way to measure that inflammation," Mruthinti said. "Using them as an early diagnostic marker may allow us to start drug treatment early, when it's most effective, to increase the patient's quality of life."

While optimistic about their findings, the researchers caution that it could still be years before a diagnostic test based on their work is clinically available. The study found that the relationship between the two antibodies and Alzheimer's severity persists even after controlling for patient age and total antibody levels. To further test the strength of the relationship, the researchers are now working with a sample that controls for other factors that have the potential to influence levels of the two antibodies, such as diabetes and heart disease. Buccafusco and his colleagues are also working to decrease the cost and time involved in the test.

"We're in the process of trying to reduce the test to a one-day procedure, whereas right now it takes three to four days," Buccafusco said. "But even now, our test is orders of magnitude cheaper than having people come in every few months to get a functional MRI or PET scan to try to discern brain plaques."

The team is targeting the two proteins themselves as a possible treatment for Alzheimer's disease. Mruthinti explains that, individually, amyloid-beta and RAGE proteins don't provoke an immune response. The trouble begins when the two bind and the immune system attacks, resulting in constant state of inflammation that damages the brain. The researchers recently developed a way to measure levels of amyloid beta-RAGE complex, and preliminary data using transgenic mice that express Alzheimer's symptoms suggest that an antigen they created to boost the body's natural immune response to the complex can reduce the formation of the brain plaques.

"The amyloid beta-RAGE complex cuts off the connections between neurons," Mruthinti explained, "but our hope is that we can protect those connections by preventing those plaques from forming."

The research was funded by a Merit Review Award from the Veterans Administration to principal investigator Mruthinti and by the Medical College of Georgia Alzheimer's Research Center.
