But not only is lead hazardous to the human body, it is a hazardous contaminant that can have a negative impact on the environment including soils, groundwater, plants and animals. Currently, addressing the issue of lead contamination typically involves having to remove the materials as a hazardous contaminant potentially exposing workers and adding to the already growing piles of other contaminants in our landfills today.
Where can you find lead based paints (LBPs)? They are commonly found in residential, commercial and industrial buildings, more specifically those constructed prior to 1978. They can be found in all 50 states, and it typically costs hundreds to thousands of dollars to properly abate.
