Mature Women’s Sexual Health Survey - Most Too Embarrassed To Talk About It

Mature Women’s Sexual Health Survey - Most Too Embarrassed To Talk About It

Sexual changes such as vaginal atrophy and painful intercourse are common problems for menopausal women yet many do not seek treatment. Menopause Alliance is developing sexual health educational programs about treatment options. To that end, Menopause Alliance is seeking women to respond to the Mature Women’s Sexual Health Survey in order to best develop appropriate programs for consumers and healthcare professionals.

New York, NY (PRWEB) March 11, 2010

Many biological changes occur during perimenopause and continue after menopause, including changes in sexual function. Unfortunately, sexual health and its impact on women’s quality of life is infrequently discussed and rarely addressed during visits with healthcare providers. Women may experience vaginal dryness, decline in libido (sexual drive) and dyspareunia (painful intercourse). Unlike some menopause symptoms, such as hot flashes which decline over time, vaginal atrophy is often progressive yet many live with the discomfort without ever seeking treatment or discussing options with their healthcare provider. Although most women do not seek help for this condition, effective treatments are available for restoring vaginal health and improving symptoms. Vaginal atrophy need not be an inevitable consequence of menopause and aging. Diagnosis and treatment may prevent these conditions or eliminate existing symptoms. For both healthcare providers and women, there is a need for increased awareness of the many choices for delivery of estrogen replacement, as well as alternative therapies for vaginal atrophy.

Since many women do not discuss these issues, Menopause Alliance and Get Primed! are conducting an anonymous survey to better understand the types of sexual issues women are dealing with in order to create educational materials for women and healthcare professionals. Please add your voice by participating in the survey. Your contribution furthers our mission of women’s health education and providing women with access to accurate medical information.
