Diabetech® Extends its Lead as the Premiere Real-time Diabetes Intervention Service Provider

Diabetech® Extends its Lead as the Premiere Real-time Diabetes Intervention Service Provider

Turn-key programs, technology and capabilities support multiple diabetes trials.

Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 3, 2006

Diabetech is pleased to announce the implementation of its first regional diabetes care network. In addition to this large-scale rollout, Diabetech is also announcing several new research partnerships that are successfully using our diabetes intervention technology and service provider programs for developing new models of diabetes care. All of this exciting news is further evidence from the field that endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators and islet cell transplant teams recognize Diabetech as the leader in real-time remote patient monitoring technology and diabetic patient intervention programs.

We are known by many for our patent pending GlucoMON® device, which has recently been granted registered trademark status from the United States Patent & Trademark Office. The GlucoMON brand is synonymous with real-time glucose alerts and the easiest way in the world to remotely connect people with diabetes to their care team. "People who don't know us too well have often suggested that we should do something with all that blood glucose data besides just real-time alerts," says Eric Link, Diabetech's co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. "Little did they realize that our GlucoDYNAMIX™ diabetes intervention platform has been supporting clinical trials since 2002 allowing us to gain more experience developing more protocols with more patients working in collaboration with more providers than any other organization in the field of real-time diabetes patient management and social networking."

Our regional diabetes care network is a turn-key education & intervention program covering patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes living in rural South Texas. Funding for this program has been secured through a $455,208 USDA Distance Learning & Telemedicine grant awarded to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. This program will deliver the world's most advanced diabetes care to hundreds of children throughout South Texas using all of Diabetech's capabilities and technology (i. e. - GlucoDYNAMIX, GlucoMON®, GlucoMESSENGER™) along with our next generation devices including GlucoBLUE™, GlucoSTATION™ and GlucoMON®2 currently in development. These remote control medical device connectivity and management devices will initially include support for LifeScan®'s Ultra® and Ultra®2 meters. Support for additional glucose meters and other diagnostic devices are considered on a case-by-case basis.

In fact, there's not much that Diabetech doesn't do for its clients when it comes to managing patients in clinical research. As the only healthcare focused wireless data service provider offering a turn-key medical device and patient management service, Diabetech handles all of the following functions, including but not limited to: protocol design and system development, patient recruitment and patient records management, device design & manufacturing, device management (network activation, provisioning, wholesale nationwide wireless airtime, network management, technical support, etc…), real-time data collection, analysis including feedback, and completely automated patient interactions that stop short of crossing the medical advice line. We work closely with Principal Investigators and Institutional Review Boards as appropriate to ensure patient safety while pushing the limits of clinical informatics in the delivery of real-world diabetes care.

As Diabetech's most recent strategic research partner, the Baylor Health Care System is working with Diabetech to screen and monitor patients in its pancreatic islet cell transplant program. In addition to monitoring patients who have already begun their islet cell transplant therapy; the collaboration includes an agreement to co-develop Intensive Management Protocols that increase efficiencies and accuracy.

Other programs contributing to Diabetech's leadership include insulin pump start trials with Thomas Jefferson University and a previously conducted feasibility study for Animas Corporation. Our work with Texas Children's Hospital is in support of their pharma-sponsored trials. This involves automated remote monitoring of children with diabetes. Diabetech improves efficiencies, accuracy and timeliness of remote blood glucose monitoring following changes to the patient's prescribed regimen. Additional research partnerships include LifeScan, Flint Hills Scientific, Zyvex, the Care Products Institute (an affiliate of Kaiser Permanente) and a growing type 1 diabetes research community including patients and their families within our RightNow! Study. Results from several of our clinical trials will be released before the end of this year.

Diabetech's technology leadership also extends into the world of consumer-oriented service provider processes, IT infrastructure, wireless and broadband networks and includes the characterization and integration of devices manufactured by Cisco, Qorvus, Ambient Devices, and multiple cell phone manufacturers including Motorola, Nokia, Sony/Ericsson and others. Diabetech is an Adopter Member of the Bluetooth® Special Interest Group and developing the Wi-Med™ specification for enabling secure, transient medical device and data connectivity over pervasive wireless broadband networks.

This service offering is compliant with applicable federal and state regulations including HIPAA, which govern the privacy and security of human subjects research. For more information please call 877.My. Gluco or send email.
