Ergonomic Floor-Cleaning Machines from Advance Contribute to LEED-EBOM Certification while Increasing Worker Comfort

Advance now offers ergonomically designed floor-cleaning equipment that can help contribute points to LEED-EBOM certification. Advance’s Advenger™ rider-scrubber with EcoFlex System and the ProTerra™ rider-sweeper meet requirements for sustainable cleaning equipment specified by the Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance Rating System (LEED-EBOM). The Advenger and Proterra offer ergonomic design features that minimize physical stress on the user and maximize operator safety, both of which are requirements under the LEED-EBOM program.
The use of ergonomic cleaning equipment is a prerequisite to Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) Credit 3.4: Green Cleaning – Sustainable Cleaning Equipment of the LEED-EBOM rating system. IEQ Credit 3.4 includes a statement requiring that “powered floor equipment is ergonomically designed to minimize vibration, noise and user fatigue.” Floor-cleaning machines that meet requirements for ergonomic design contribute to facility sustainability by improving the health and safety of cleaning and maintenance staff.

LEED for Existing Buildings-Operations and Maintenance is a voluntary standard for defining, measuring and certifying the sustainability of an existing commercial building. The individual sections and points of the LEED-EBOM rating system – including IEQ Credit 3.4 – work together to define a sustainable building. Even if LEED certification is not a goal, the standards offer a guide for establishing best practices that reduce the environmental impact of cleaning, improve the indoor environmental quality of buildings and lower the cost to clean and maintain buildings.
