James McGreevey’s newly released book “The Confession," has once again thrust the topic of gay married men and same sex infidelity into the public eye.
You may recall that 2 years ago, with his wife at his side, McGreevey, then governor of New Jersey, shocked the nation by announcing that he’d been involved in an extramarital affair with a male employee and would resign.
Wives across the nation began asking themselves, “Could my husband be gay?”
Once again, wives everywhere are asking the same question.
A Common Starting Point for Infidelity
In his book, “The Confession, McGreevey relates intimate details about his affair with Golan Cipel, and how it began while his wife was hospitalized due to the birth of the couple's daughter.
“Pregnancy or the birth of a new child is a common starting point for infidelity” says infidelity expert Ruth Houston. “Same sex infidelity is no different. I’m sure countless wives out there are wondering: Weren’t there any signs? Couldn’t she tell? How could she not know?”

Health Consequences
“In addition to the shock, humiliation, and feelings of rejection, women married to gay / bisexual men also have to contend with the health consequences of the situation.” says Houston. “Most gay / bisexual married men lead secret lifestyles which include anonymous sexual encounters and unprotected sex, increasing the likelihood that they’ll become infected with HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases, and pass them on to their unsuspecting mates.”
In "The Confession," McGreevey writes about visiting bookstores in New York and New Jersey and having sex in the small booths until he became too famous to risk discovery. He also tells how he later cruised rest stops along the Garden State Parkway for anonymous sex with men.
How to Tell if Your Husband Is Gay
Very little has been written about how to spot same sex infidelity and what to do about it.
