ANT+ Enables Real Time Tour de France Race Coverage

ANT+ Enables Real Time Tour de France Race Coverage

Collaboration with Google, HTC and SRM links viewers to bike speed, cadence, power and heart rate data via ANT+. Now viewers can track HTC-Columbia riders and stats in real-time.

Cochrane, Alberta (PRWEB) July 12, 2010

ANT Wireless ("ANT" www. thisisant. com), a division of Dynastream Innovations Inc., today announces a successful collaboration of ANT+ wireless interoperability with HTC phones, Google’s My Tracks Android application and SRM’s ANT+ sensors.
For the first time ever, this partnership enables worldwide web broadcasting of real-time Tour data via off-the-shelf monitoring devices through a cell phone:
HTC-Columbia team cyclists use ANT+ enabled, coin cell operated monitoring devices and carry HTC Legend phone in pocket. ANT+ coin cell operated devices talk directly to HTC phone. This is possible because ANT+ is now integrated into Android phones with the Texas Instruments WiLink™ chip. Google MyTracks application receives sensor data including power, speed, cadence and heart rate. Sensor and GPS data from HTC Legend is transmitted over the cellular phone network to the internet. Google streams data to the world.

Initiated by former pro cyclist and current Googler, Dylan Casey, this project is designed to allow broadcasters and fans to get even closer to the action with real-time physiological data. www. google. com/mytrackstour (http://www. google. com/mytrackstour)

“Now, you can track your favorite HTC-Columbia rider and his stats in real-time because ANT+ enables the collection of his data and transfers it with HTC and Google,” stated Dylan Casey, Product Manager, Google Inc. “And this application goes far beyond cycling. A phone with ANT+ can enable the capture of all kinds of data.”

Renowned for exceptional pairing and the elimination of interference issues, ANT+ enables practical solutions and is ideal for the Tour de France setting.

“Our intention from day one has been to deliver a product that just works,” declared Rod Morris, Director, ANT Wireless. “Cycling is a phenomenal example of an industry where top players come together to find the very best end-to-end solutions. The Tour takes this to a whole new level.”

SRM, another key player in this first-ever Tour data feed, has been the gold standard of power measurement for top professionals in cycling, triathlon and the serious athlete for 20 years. The SRM Training System with ANT+ measures and displays real-time data with reliability and accuracy that is unmatched in the cycling industry.

The ANT+ protocol is now embedded in Texas Instruments’ WiLink chip and a standard component in multiple cell phones and is designed specifically for applications requiring small footprints, ultra-low-power, and superior functionality. Currently, there are over 200 commercially-available ANT+ enabled products for sport, fitness, and health. http://www. thisisant. com/modules/mod_product-directory. php (http://www. thisisant. com/modules/mod_product-directory. php)

ANT has gained a great deal of momentum in the global marketplace with premier products such as Nordic Semiconductor’s AP1 and AP2 family and TI’s WiLink. A family of network node products will be also be available from Texas Instruments starting Q4 2010. All ANT parts support ANT+.
