Florida Doctor Addresses Toxicity In Autism Spectrum Patients

Dr. James Martin in Sarasota, Florida provides all-natural detoxification therapies to help remove environmental toxins from the body. The build-up of toxins, the body burden, is a factor in many chronic illnesses including migraines and chronic fatigue. In children and adults, detoxing improves outcomes of those with Autism Spectrum behavioral challenges.

As researchers address the alarming increase in cases of Autism Spectrum-related disorders, a key factor is emerging: Toxic overload is taxing our childrenÂ’s systems beyond their ability to function and maintain proper health. Clinical nutritionist and toxicology expert Dr. James H Martin, founder and clinical director of the Martin Clinic in Sarasota, Florida, has been clearing out toxins and working to restore a more healthy balance for these kids while the researchers keep looking for answers.

In just the last few weeks, researchers from around the globe have reported links between autism and a mutated cancer gene; autism and deficient antioxidant levels; autism and mirror neuron dysfunction; autism and mercury; and autism and vaccines. “While these researchers look to uncover and explain possible causes for specific symptoms, I see pieces of a puzzle coming together,” says Dr. Martin. “The vast majority of juvenile patients who arrive at the Clinic with histories of Attention Deficit Disorder/Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), and other autism spectrum issues will present with high levels of neurotoxins, like heavy metals and pesticides, along with gut problems from yeast overgrowth,” observes Martin, a Chiropractic physician with 29 years experience in treating patients with environmental health issues.

According to a 2004 report by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC), exposure to toxic chemicals contributes to increases in such childhood diseases as asthma, leukemia, brain cancer, birth defects and learning, behavioral and developmental disabilities. “Today’s children are exposed to more toxins and are carrying around the greatest toxic overload mankind has ever experienced and the burden is compromising their systems in ways doctors, scientists and other researchers never anticipated,” Dr. Martin explains.

While the exact causative action – which toxin or group of toxins leads to which disorder or syndrome – has not yet been identified, Martin says removing these toxins is an obvious and important first step. “People, especially parents of children with spectrum behavioral issues, need to know that there’s help out there. We can now evaluate the toxic load being carried by an individual and we have therapies to remove the offending toxins. Best of all, the testing and the treatments are generally non-invasive and pain-free,” explained Martin.

In spite of the fact that much of the current testing offered is not presently covered by insurance, recent years have seen an increase in the variety and availability of toxicity screenings. Testing requirements differ but generally look to samples of hair, blood, urine, saliva and stool for evaluation. The Martin Clinic offers NutraScan Bio-Resonance testing which examines urine and saliva for over 550 known toxicants, including chemicals and heavy metals, pesticides, dyes, parasites, bacteria, molds, viruses and fungi.

“The human body is an awe inspiring machine with tremendous innate intelligence. It wants to be healthy, that’s its natural state,” says Dr. Martin. “Using natural supplements, we can rid the body of toxins, meet the body’s nutritional needs and help these kids achieve optimal health and wellness.”

The Martin Clinic in Sarasota, Florida offers a wide range of services encompassing nutritional, chiropractic and naturopathic modalities. The goal of the Clinic is to provide individualized assistance in eliminating barriers that prevent or impair the bodyÂ’s ability to achieve optimal health and well-being.
