Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) September 22, 2004

The University of Utah Center for Human Toxicology has selected ChemWare’s HORIZON® Laboratory Information Management System for the new Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory. The University, which received start-up funds for the project from the Salt Lake Organizing Committee through the United States Olympic Committee, is actively pursuing accreditation from the World Anti-Doping Agency. If successful, the lab would be one of only two facilities in the U. S. accredited for testing of Olympic athletes.

Sharyn Brunk, President and CEO of ChemWare, remarked, "WeÂ’re honored to have the opportunity to work with leading agencies and scientists to help in the fight against doping in sports. ChemWare has demonstrated leadership in delivering the highest practical level of automation, data defensibility and data security within the drug testing community."

"ChemWare has been automating forensic drug testing and other healthcare laboratories since the mid-1980s, so their domain expertise is a vital asset to this project," said Denny Crouch, Co-Director at the Center for Human Toxicology. "We were most impressed, though, by their long-term investment in technologies for flexible workflow modeling, regulatory-compliant electronic records management, and fully automated data validation and reporting."

HORIZON® is the only LIMS with a fully integrated analytical data management system, utilizing a patented print-to-database technology for automated capture of documents, photos, reports and other output from PCs, instruments and other computerized devices and applications. The solution is compliant with the FDA’s 21 CFR Part 11 guidelines for electronic record keeping and electronic signatures. HORIZON® also complies with all information management and analytical requirements for laboratories certified by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to perform Federal workplace drug testing.
