(PRWEB) December 22, 2005

Dr. Daniel K. Marinic is the first dentist in Illinois to be certified in Nobel Biocare’s guided implant surgery, a minimally-invasive procedure for dental implant placement. Dr. Marinic’s private practice focuses on implant and cosmetic dentistry (www. drmarinic. com).

The use of Nobel Biocare technologies (a leading edge developer of tooth replacement systems) provides Dr. Marinic’s patients with the best of dental implant and cosmetic dentistry technologies while providing his patients the comfort of knowing their dentistry outcomes will endure for years to come.

“Our practice maintains a close relationship with Nobel Biocare,” Dr. Marinic said. “Use of their technologies and products consistently assures our patients of utmost precision, predictability and speed of implant procedures.”

Although there are many ways to restore a tooth, a dental implant is the only way to replace a root. The NobelGuide™ concept from Nobel Biocare opens up a wide range of opportunities and levels for Dr. Marinic to carry out safe, predictable, minimally-invasive implant placement using a Surgical Template to guide him.

Guided implant surgery uses Computer tomography to generate a 3-D image of the patient's jaw. The implant surgery is done virtually on the 3-D image. When the placement of the implants is acceptable, a surgical guide (NobelGuide™) is also virtually created. This is e-mailed to Sweden where it is printed on a stereo lithographic printer. This printer actually prints in three dimensions.

In about a week the NobelGuide™ is returned to the doctor. The day of the surgery the guide is put into place and the holes are drilled through the guide. This controls the position as well as the depth of the holes. Next the implants are placed through the guide resulting in accuracy of 200 microns.

Guided surgery offers many benefits to both patient and dentist involving decreased morbidity, little post operative pain and swelling, immediate return to function and little interference with work and social life. There are no stitches and most patients report minimal if any discomfort. Dentists can achieve greater predictability, more precise planning, enhanced esthetic results, greater flexibility and expanded possibilities for different treatment options.

Dr. Marinic has been in private practice in Evanston, IL, since 1987. The practice focuses on implant and cosmetic dentistry and provides just the right mix of reconstructive, restorative and aesthetic dental procedures for his patients. In 1997, Dr. Marinic built a state of the art dental facility which features a central sterilization room and fully equipped laboratory for dental implants and guided implant surgery (www. drmarinic. com).
