ICPS Enters Into Strategic Alliance with Medappz, LLC to Improve Patient Safety

ICPS entered into a strategic alliance with Medappz, LLC to offer their Electronic Health Record System to Hispanic physicians.

The Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons (ICPS), the oldest and largest national Hispanic medical society in the U. S., has worked for many years to improve physician effectiveness and increase patient safety through the use by physicians of an electronic medical record (EMR) system. Technology is redefining medicine. It links knowledge of genes with pharmaceuticals, uses stem cells to fight disease, allows less invasive laparoscopic surgery, and improved imaging capabilities. Likewise, information management advancements improve efficiency and safety. Effective patient management requires physicians to utilize technology in ways few could imagine twenty years ago.

Perhaps the most important benefit of the use of technology as it applies to patient safety is the electronic medical record. This process requires the physician to input doctor’s orders into an electronic system. There will be much fewer errors due to misreading of the order. “The elimination of hand-written orders and records will reduce error and greatly improve patient safety” said Dr. Rene F. Rodriguez, President of the Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Medappz, LLC is a software development company headquartered in Wichita, Kansas with sales offices in Boca Raton, Florida, focusing on building advanced health information systems for ambulatory-care providers. Through its innovative electronic health record and practice management software, Medappz is changing the way ambulatory-care providers capture, manage, and exchange patient information amongst one another.

ICPS entered into a strategic alliance with Medappz, LLC to offer their EHR system to Hispanic physicians at reduced pricing. Medappz has developed a product called the “Clinical Agent”, an electronic health record and computer provider order entry system for ambulatory-care providers. By implementing the Clinical Agent in today's ambulatory-care setting, Hispanic physicians and their staff have instant access to medical records, lab reports, medications, allergies, and correspondence from other physicians. Many Americans who are members of ethnic minority groups, such as Hispanic Americans experience disparities in health outcomes. By targeting a community-based approach, Medappz has the capability of gathering massive amounts of clinical information on Hispanics allowing research to provide evidence-based medicine initiatives to improve health outcomes in Hispanic communities said CEO Brian Lichtlin.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) require the security and privacy policies of the provider be recorded and audited for compliance. Medical records can be safeguarded far more easily if they are on a secure, private database, such as the Clinical Agent.
