Grand Rapids Native Patricia (Plese) Gussin to Sign, Discuss Heralded Debut Novel Shadow of Death in Grand Rapids

Gussin will appear at Barnes & Noble in Grand Rapids on April 20

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) March 29, 2006

Grand Rapids native resident Patricia Gussin will autograph and discuss her heralded debut novel Shadow of Death on April 20th, 2006 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers beginning at 7 PM. A graduate of Aquinas College, Gussin also attended Marywood Academy.

In 1967, Gussin was a first-year medical student in Detroit. 1967 – the year Detroit erupted into the worst case of civil violence since the Civil War – was a time of tremendous unrest, social upheaval, and devastation. Now, after an illustrious career practicing medicine and directing medical research as a worldwide vice president for a leading healthcare company, Gussin revisits that harrowing time in Shadow of Death, a forthcoming thriller hailed as a stunning debut novel.

In Shadow of Death, (Oceanview Publishing, ISBN: 1-933515-00-7, $22.95) Gussin introduces Laura Nelson, a medical student, wife and mother struggling to strike a balance between her family and career. As the worst violence in the history of Detroit erupts around her, Laura’s life changes in an instant when she becomes both a victim of a violent crime, and a murderer. Laura is forced to make a split second decision that will alter the course of her life – forever.

Desperate to put that fateful, frightening night behind her, Laura soon learns that keeping those dreadful secrets from those closest to her proves to be one of the toughest challenges she will ever face. With a persistent and perceptive detective hot on her trail and a host of eerie incidents suggesting that maybe her secret isn’t really a secret, Laura must face her fears and her toughest critic – herself. Drawn into an unseemly web of peril, deceit, and treachery, Laura risks both her freedom and her sanity. Will her deadly secret come to light, or must she live forever in the shadow of death?

Gripping and masterfully-paced, Shadow of Death is an intricately-woven tale filled with secrets, lies, and a spine-chilling glimpse of what lurks in the shadows. Interwoven with complex issues such as race relations, religion, and morals, ethics and consequences, Shadow of Death is a haunting, thought-provoking stunner.

Resplendent with shocking coincidences, pulse-quickening turns and twists, and a host of real, dynamic characters, Shadow of Death will leave you torn between racing to the end, and attempting to savor each delicious moment of this gripping story.

Board Certified in Family Medicine, Patricia Gussin, known to colleagues as Dr. Patricia Stewart, has practiced medicine and has directed medical research in her role as worldwide vice president for a leading healthcare company. Shadow of Death is her first novel.
