Living With Grief: Diversity and End-of-Life Care' National Teleconference Offered at Three Bay Area Locations
The public is invited to register for "Living with Grief®: Diversity and End-of-Life Care," the 16th annual Hospice Foundation of America national teleconference, available on April 29 in three Bay Area locations, hosted by Hospice By The Bay, a regional, non-profit, hospice and palliative care provider.

Hospice By The Bay, a regional, non-profit, hospice and palliative care provider, will host the Hospice Foundation of America's (HFA) 16th annual Living with Grief® teleconference, Diversity and End-of-Life Care, live-via-satellite on Wednesday, April 29, 10:30am-1:30pm, at three Bay Area locations. The nationally recognized distance learning program is open to the public, and CEUs are available for healthcare professionals, social workers, and counselors from HFA for $25. Registration is free at the Marin and Sonoma locations, and $15 in San Francisco. Locations are: Hospice By The Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur; San Francisco State University, San Francisco (in partnership with Pathways Home Health & Hospice); and the Sonoma Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Sonoma.

More than 125,000 people in 2,000 communities attend this annual educational program, which has been instrumental in educating health care professionals and families on issues affecting end-of-life care. This year's program offers a distinguished panel of practitioners, educators, and hospice experts (http://www. hospicefoundation. org/teleconference/2009/panelists. asp) who will examine how diversity influences end-of-life decision making, including how hospices are reaching out to diverse groups and incorporating traditional practices and alternative therapies. The panel will also discuss the impact that culture may have at the time of death and during bereavement, and the challenges that may occur when cultural considerations may cause ethical concerns or moral distress. The program hopes to increase participants' sensitivity by helping them acknowledge how their own cultural values and assumptions influence the delivery of care.
