The Retreat for Women of Color™ offers a new paradigm for healing, renewal and change. Transformation 2004 is a yearlong series of seasonal weekends offered winter, spring, summer and fall. These weekends have been designed to introduce and promote yoga as a practice for personal growth. The first of these will be our Winter Retreat, February 26-29 2004, Director Maya Breuer announced today.

“The journey of self discovery from the feminine perspective of the woman of color offers the opportunity to learn, create and explore innovative ways to renew body, mind and spirit. Women who need a break will also find just the right blend of relaxation and pampering available at each retreat.”

“There are many challenges placed upon the woman of color in our culture. In addition to being over worked, burdened by family, jobs, and at times racism, many of us are also overwhelmed by stress and related illnesses such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. The practice of yoga and relaxation are tools that have been successful in abating the progress of these chronic health conditions,” Breuer says.

Maya Breuer, R. Y.T. founder of the Santosha School of Yoga and a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher has instructed yoga and offered workshops for healing, and self-discovery since 1985. She specializes in creating programs and retreats for minorities, and women that employ yoga as a platform to promote behavioral change. Her programs are a synthesis of the philosophies of yoga and ancient ethnic wisdom stressing the interconnection of body, mind and spirit.

Through Yoga, African dance, journal-making, art, creative visualization, interactive exercises and sister circle sharing, participants will explore how to:

§ Deepen self awareness, heighten and use intuition

§ Create connections with other women of color

§ Recognize and understand unconscious thoughts that can create havoc in oneÂ’s life

§ Make conscious choices

§ Learn the importance of self-discipline

§ Eliminate behaviors that no longer work

§ Connect to the authentic self

Each of the 2004 Transformation retreats will also feature guest presenters who are exceptional in their area of expertise.
