Part of Rockaway Development & Revitalization CorporationÂ’s (RDRC) overall mission is to assist its residents in improving the "quality of life" in the Rockaways. RDRC reveres those who share this mission. On Wednesday, May 11, 2005, RDRC will proudly host its 19th Annual Tribute at RussoÂ’s on the Bay where it will honor: The Wave, Deerfield Area Association, NYPD 101st Precinct and Assemblywoman Titus.

RDRC reveres those who share this mission. On Wednesday, May 11, 2005, RDRC will proudly host its 19th Annual Tribute at RussoÂ’s on the Bay where it will honor:

Joseph W. Stehn Community Service Award Recipients:

Elio Velez, Sports Editor for The Wave – Elio Velez recognizes the important and positive role sports play in an individual’s development. According to Velez, “There is no doubt that sports will play an integral part on all levels to make Rockaway a better place to live for children of all ages in the years to come.” During his tenure, The Wave’s sport’s section, has expanded from 2-3 pages at most to at least 7 to 8 pages per week.

Deerfield Area Association – Deerfield Area Association’s commitment to the community is evident in the dedicated services it provides from youth programs, multi-cultural events, beautification projects and educational donations.

Special Recognition Award Recipients:

Honorable Michele R. Titus, 31st Assembly District – Since her special election win in 2002, Assemblywoman Titus has been a strong advocate for her constituency. She has introduced and supported policy that would mandate after school programs in every public school, expand early childhood education, provide access to quality healthcare, improve transportation, enforce environmental protections and lower senior prescription costs.

Commanding Officer Walter Salowski, NYPD 101st Precinct – Under Commanding Officer Walter Salowski’s direction, the 101st Precinct has made the Rockaways safer. His concerted effort has resulted in dramatically reducing the crime rate in the Rockaways.
