25 year old Australian Beach Volleyball Champion Brett Richardson has just returned from the International Tournament to give the first Mr World Australia title a shot. Ranked as number 1 in Australia, Brett Richardson has been the partner of third time Olympic Champion Julien Prosser for the last two years. Julien returned from the international competition to trade in his gloves for retirement leaving young Richardson looking for a new partner and a new challenge.

More than just a male beauty pageant, Mr World contestants are assessed on athletic prowess, endurance, intelligence, talent, deportment and a healthy body image. Educated in Business studies, having completed a stint at the Australian Institute of Sport, donning a swimsuit daily on Manly beach as a professional athlete and corporate ambassador, Brett Richardson does appear all that.

“Everyone is asking me why I want to be considered for the Mr World title, Richardson says. “I knew what my mates reactions would be like. But it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. How can I knock back an opportunity to push me to my athletic limit and increase my cross training in my preparations for Beijing Olympics 2008. Not to mention the amount of doors that would be opened for my career throughout the reign, helping charities, liaising with the media, sponsors and the corporate arena. With Beijing in my sights I would be crazy not to.”

Mr World could certainly provide Brett Richardson those opportunities. In a sport that has struggled in the face of the shrinking sponsorship dollar, any opportunity Richardson has to improve the profile of his sport is sure to support him in the long term. The winner will also receive a one year management contract with Miss World Australia Holdings, a return ticket and extreme sport month long adventure as part of the competition in China and a Designer wardrobe throughout his year of reign.

Australian men between the ages of 27 and 18 are now registering for the inaugural Mr World Competition final. Celebrating 100 years of Surf Lifesaving at the North Steyne Surf Lifesaving Club on Sunday 22nd October, 2006, the Winner of this prestigious competition will be crowned by Miss World Australia Sabrina Houssami before being flown to Sanya China next year where he will compete in a month long series of extreme sport events.

But it won’t be an easy win. A record 80 countries are competing in the search to find the world’s most desirable man. Some of the tasks are very physical, some test mental agility. All are immensely challenging. Challenges that are now being considered for the contestants include the Great Wall Climb of the Great Wall Of China, Marine Training, Traditional raft building, Jungle survival exercises in Tropical Rain Forests, a Mountain River Rapid Series, Martial Arts Training School and the Elephant Pull – Team Series.

If this is not enough – Mr World must also deliver against “Beauty with a Purpose”? The charity focus ensures that Mr World will be measured on his contribution to charities. Before Mr World Australia leaves for China he will be the ambassador for a host of the country’s charities.

In time Mr World is forecasted to equal that of Miss World as one of the world's most popular TV shows: with more than 2 billion viewers only the World Cup Final and opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games pull in more viewers. This year the broadcast is expected to attract more viewers than the Oscars or the Eurovision Song Contest across the globe.

Entrants can register online at www. mrworldaustralia. com. au for details.

Don't miss the official crowning of Miss World to be aired on Arena TV on Sunday, October 1 at 1pm. For more information on the Miss World schedule and to follow Miss World Australia, Sabrina Houssami on her way to the finals, visit the Miss World website on www. missworld. tv.
