DuPont Recognized Again for Agriculture Excellence

DuPont Recognized Again for Agriculture Excellence

DuPont Leader Points to Innovation and Collaboration

LONDON (Vocus) November 9, 2010

DuPont and retired DuPont scientist George Levitt received two prestigious Agrow Awards for innovation and excellence in agriculture. This is the third year DuPont has been recognized by Agrow, a leading provider of news, analysis and data to the global agriculture industry.

DuPont earned the Agrow Best Formulation Innovation award for the DuPont ™ CyazypyrTM insect control SuspoEmulsion formulation. SuspoEmulsion is a breakthrough technology that enables highly effective insect control with less active ingredient for a reduced environmental footprint. This innovative formulation’s optimal oil content ensures crop safety, while its minimized emulsifier level further reduces the environmental load.

Levitt, a retired senior principal investigator for DuPont, was honored with the Agrow Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering work in the discovery of the sulfonylurea (SU) herbicides. This innovative class of chemistry revolutionized the crop protection industry by providing growers with outstanding weed control at very low use rates. SU herbicides also have an excellent environmental profile that is still considered an industry standard today. Levitt’s achievements have been recognized with numerous honors and awards over the past three decades, including the U. S. National Medal of Technology and the American Chemical Society Heroes of Chemistry Award.

“At DuPont, more than 50 percent of the $1.4 billion annual research and development investment is directed at helping growers increase food production,” said James C. Collins, president DuPont Crop Protection. “We are honored to be recognized for this focus on advancing agriculture. We share this recognition with George Levitt, growers, regulatory agencies and universities we collaborate with every day to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions for the world’s rapidly growing population. DuPont is both proud and pleased that the science accomplishment of George Levitt continues to be recognized.”

DuPont has earned a total of eight awards since Agrow launched the program in 2007. In 2009, DuPont earned three Agrow Awards in the categories of Most Innovative Chemistry, Best Off-Patent Pesticide Strategy and Best Innovation in Non-Crop. In 2007, the company earned awards for Most Innovative Chemistry, Best R&D Pipeline and Best Novel Agricultural Biotechnology.

The Agrow Awards were developed to recognize excellence in the crop protection and production industry. Entries are judged using a wide range of criteria by an independent judging panel consisting of a group of senior experts from around the world.
