Animax Entertainment, http://www. animaxent. com (http://www. animaxent. com), a leading animation production studio, was nominated for a Sports Emmy Award for “Off-Mikes,” the weekly original animated series they produce for ESPN. com. Animax Entertainment and ESPN. com were nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Content for Non-Traditional Delivery Platforms, a category that the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences debuted this year.

“Off-Mikes” is a weekly animated series based on the ESPN Radio show Mike & Mike In the Morning featuring Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg. To create each episode Animax edits audio from the live radio program and then writes a fun new take on the edited audio, exaggerating the dramatically different personalities of Mike & Mike In the Morning while highlighting some of the funniest exchanges that have occurred. Animax animates each episode using traditional 2D animation techniques and Flash, a Macromedia software product recently acquired by Adobe. The animated episodes debut on ESPN. com on the Motion Video platform and are then ported for mobile and television use.

The “Off-Mikes” series is television quality content, but was created for new media platforms. Recognizing the impact recent technological advances was having on the process of creating and distributing content, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences created a new Sports Emmy Award category. “Off-Mikes” is nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Content for Non-Traditional Delivery Platforms such as the Internet, cell phones, iPods, PDAs and other devices.

“Everyone at Animax is very excited to be nominated for our first Emmy Award and to be nominated in a new Emmy category,” said Tim Jones, Head of Production at Animax Entertainment.

“We are very, very proud and pleased that ‘Off-Mikes’ has been nominated for an Emmy. The entire crew has done a fabulous job,” said Mike Greenberg. “They take what we’ve done on the radio show and turn it into a wonderful cartoon,” added Mike Golic.

“We’re also happy that ESPN is being recognized for their early commitment to original broadband content. Now, in addition to ESPN, Animax produces original broadband animation for AOL, Disney and other leading entertainment companies.”

The 27th Annual Sports Emmy Awards will be presented at a ceremony on Monday, May 1 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center located in the Time Warner Center in New York City.
