NuSil Technology (www. nusil. com), a cutting-edge manufacturer of silicone-based materials for healthcare, aerospace, electronics and photonics, announces the extension of its biocompatibility support to include sensitization, genotoxicity, and pyrogenicity testing for its line of pigmented silicone masterbatches.

In 2004, NuSil unveiled its line of pigmented silicone masterbatches co-developed with Gayson SDI. These masterbatches were specially designed for coloring liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and high-consistency rubbers (HCR) considered for both long-term implantable applications and short-term healthcare applications. Masterbatches intended for healthcare applications require regulatory support comparable to that provided for the elastomers into which they are incorporated. NuSil's color masterbatches meet Class VI and most ISO-10993 biological testing requirements. These products are supported by a comprehensive Master Access File (MAF) submitted to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

"We understand materials in the healthcare industry, especially for medical devices that come in contact with the human body, need to be supported with extensive and precise biocompatibility testing," says Brian Nash, vice president of Marketing and Sales. "Based on the feedback from the industry, we have extended our biological testing support in a continued response to meet our customers' needs."

NuSil offers its line of pigmented silicone masterbatches in an array of colors that can be customized to meet the applications needs. A translucent color palette is also available for coloring LSRs used in the injection molding of silicone parts.
