JDRF Riders and Coaches Ride Tandem with Tips from the Diabetes Experts at Fit4D

Fit4D to Provide Diabetes Educational Online Webinars for 2009 JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes Participants

New York (PRWEB) April 21, 2009

Jump starting spring fitness, Fit4D™ (Fitness4Diabetics), and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) announce collaborative efforts to provide virtual diabetes educational information to the participants of the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes, 2009. The Fit4D Coaches, Certified Diabetes Educators, will present three virtual online webinars to the 1500 Ride participants and their cycling coaches to prepare for the ride.

Riders will receive expert guidance on sports nutrition and exercise training from the Fit4D Coaches as they prepare for a successful Ride. Riders with diabetes will be empowered by a special segment on balancing blood sugars throughout training. Fit4D Coaches will deliver another webinar especially designed for the cycling coaches to engage them in a virtual round-table style discussion that focuses on training the rider with diabetes.

When asked what is most exciting to him about this year's ride, Dan Lobdell, Chair of the JDRF Ride Leadership Committee replied: "The new venue in Killington Vermont. For the first time ever there is a ride venue in the North East and we're expecting a record turnout for this venue which is exciting for the program. It's a great opportunity because we've made it possible for people to drive from Metropolitan areas all over the North East".

Dan Lobdell has plans to ride in Killington, which promises a scenic view along Vermont's Route 100, and will also ride in one other of the six JDRF Ride To Cure Diabetes venues this year.

Dan Lobdell has personally experienced diabetes coaching with a Fit4D Coach, Certified Diabetes Educator, and he has also participated in webinars powered by Fit4D. He recommends for all the participants of the ride and their cycling coaches to attend the Fit4D educational webinars, to gain as Dan describes:

"A lot of it is awareness. Fit4D is so focused on the diabetes athlete that people will come away with tips and tricks and a deeper awareness, with vitally important knowledge. Based on last year, cycling coaches got heightened knowledge and higher degree of sensitivity for working with a diabetes athlete."

Co-presenting this year's webinar to the cycling coaches is Fit4D Fitness Coach Josh Gold. Josh has coached thousands of athletes, and he explains why he enjoys coaching the diabetes athlete in particular: "Working with people living with Type 1 diabetes is extremely inspiring because of what they have to deal with day in day out." Josh recommends that diabetes athletes combine their training with a Fit4D Certified Diabetes Educator: "Fit4D is the missing link between fitness and diabetes management for people with diabetes. Fit4D is a priceless resource for all diabetes needs because there is no cookie cutter solution, personalization is required." Josh continues:
"The benefits of working with Fit4D coaches for a person living with diabetes are to have their questions answered. People don't typically have access to CDEs (Certified Diabetes Educators) that readily. The Fit4D Quick Consult, one hour on the phone with a Fit4D coach, gives them confidence, answers questions, and can put them at ease while educating on the reality and tapering fears. The Fit4D Quick Consult answers questions. For more developed guidance and lifestyle change, Fit4D offers longer term coaching with CDEs over the phone and through email."

The three virtual online webinars are provided by Fit4D at no cost to JDRF Riders and Coaches in support of JDRF's mission to find a cure for diabetes. In addition, Fit4D is offering the Fit4D Quick Consult to all JDRF Ride Participants at a discounted rate of over 25% off - for $60 for one full hour on the phone with a Fit4D Coach, Certified Diabetes Educator. A co-presenter of the May Riders webinar for riders is Fit4D Nutrition Coach Lucy Cole, MA, RD, CD, CPT. Lucy has completed the 1000 hours required to be eligible to take the CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) exam and has plans to do so this spring. In addition to being a Fit4D coach, Lucy Cole is an Indiana, South Bend JDRF board member. She became involved with JDRF because she wants to provide guidance for families. Lucy's presentation preview tip for this year's riders is "whatever you plan to do the day of the ride, do it for training". Lucy Cole is working with JDRF to start, and spearhead, the JDRF mentorship program for the JDRF Indiana South Bend Chapter.
