Modern Healthcare and HIMSS Announce 2005 CEO IT Achievement Award Recipients

Modern Healthcare and HIMSS today announced the recipients of the prestigious 2005 CEO IT Achievement Award. Joel Allison, president and CEO of Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, TX; George Halvorson, chairman and CEO of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan & Hospitals in Oakland, CA; and Mark R. Neaman, president and CEO of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, IL were chosen as this year's recipients.

Modern Healthcare and HIMSS today announced the recipients of the prestigious 2005 CEO IT Achievement Award. Joel Allison, president and CEO of Baylor Health Care System in Dallas, TX; George Halvorson, chairman and CEO of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan & Hospitals in Oakland, CA; and Mark R. Neaman, president and CEO of Evanston Northwestern Healthcare in Evanston, IL were chosen as this year's recipients.

The three CEOs were chosen because they demonstrated superior levels of leadership and commitment to using information technology for the advancement of their healthcare organizations' strategic goals.

"Each of this year's recipients truly understands the value of information technology and the power it has in helping them achieve their clinical, operational and service excellence goals," stated Fawn Lopez, publisher of Modern Healthcare.

A panel of five healthcare executives selected this year's recipients. The panel consisted of Richard Hastings, president and CEO of St. Luke's Health System; John Hummel, CIO and senior vice president of information systems for Sutter Health; Judith Pelham, former president and CEO of Trinity Health; Patricia C. Skarulis, CIO and vice president of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center; and Mike Smith, CIO of Lee Memorial Health System.

Past recipients include: Richard Hastings, president and CEO of St. Luke's Health System; Judith Pelham, former president and CEO of Trinity Health; Leonard Schaeffer, chairman and CEO of WellPoint Health Networks; George Vecchione, president and CEO of Lifespan; and Pete Velez, executive director of Elmhurst Hospital Center and senior vice president of Queens Healthcare Network.

This year's recipients will be profiled in the April 11 issue of Modern Healthcare and honored at an awards dinner at the Chicago Cultural Center in Chicago on May 23.
