StructureTec Gets the David L. Lawrence Convention Center Ready to Take the World's Stage for the G20 Summit

StructureTec's Consulting Services was enlisted to design and manage the installation of a new roof in time for the G20 Summit.

Kalamazoo, MI (PRWEB) September 24, 2009

In preparation for the G20 Summit being held in downtown Pittsburgh, PA on September 24 and 25, 2009, the Sports & Exhibition Authority (SEA) enlisted the consulting services of StructureTec to design and manage the installation of a new roof (http://www. structuretec. com/services/roofing) for the ballroom at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.

The SEA contacted StructureTec (http://www. structuretec. com) shortly after receiving word from the White House at the end of May, 2009. Due to the Summit being designated a National Special Security Event (NSSE), and the area around the convention center being a secure restricted zone by mid-September, timing was critical.

StructureTec, in collaboration with the SEA's team, prepared the technical roofing specifications, based on a fully adhered reinforced 60 mil EPDM roofing system with a fully tapered insulation system to provide proper drainage on concrete deck areas.

After competitively bidding the project with local roofing contractors, the project was awarded to Phoenix Roofing. StructureTec provided site visits for field quality assurance during installation of the new roofing system (http://www. structuretec. com/services/roofing).

Shortly before completion of the project, the SEA requested StructureTec to design a structural platform to accommodate a projector that would display a welcome sign in different languages on the wall of the Marriott Hotel across from the convention center. This last-minute request, just prior to the area being locked down, required the structural engineering team at StructureTec to collaborate with a steel fabricator to construct and install the custom platform.

Despite the challenging timeframe of the project, StructureTec and the SEA completed the roof replacement project in time for the event.
