KidSmart Coordinator Puts Health Care Future on Hold to Serve Children in Need

KidSmart Coordinator Puts Health Care Future on Hold to Serve Children in Need

Jocelyn Bosch fulfills one year service to KidSmart-Tools for Learning.

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) February 7, 2004

Service was always an integral part of Jocelyn BoschÂ’s life. So when she had the opportunity to put a future career in the health care industry on hold to dedicate a year of her life to service, she jumped at the chance. For the past year, Bosch has served as a full-time volunteer for KidSmart - Tools for Learning.

During her year of service, Bosch designed and implemented a volunteer program for KidSmart, a free educational supply store that equips children with the necessary educational materials to learn. Her efforts turned into a thriving program with more than 600 volunteers.

“When I first heard about KidSmart, I was amazed at the immense need for educational materials in the St. Louis area,” said Bosch. “I was driven to help students that wanted to learn, but lacked the necessary tools.”

Thanks in part to Bosch and four other full-time volunteers serving through the Americorps VISTA program, KidSmart has grown to provide more than 18,000 students with over $500,000 worth of free educational materials in the past two years. KidSmart strives to ensure that children and their classrooms in the Greater Metropolitan St. Louis area have the basic tools for learning by transferring, at not cost, the communityÂ’s surplus supplies and merchandise into the hands of children in need.

BoschÂ’s official term of service will end on Friday, Feb. 6. She does plan to volunteer at least once a week at KidSmart.

“Jocelyn was such an asset to KidSmart and our volunteer program,” said Ann Sheinbein, KidSmart’s VISTA supervisor. “She has a gift for making every volunteer feel special.”
