Newton, MA (PRWEB) November 7, 2004
Next week at the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting & Exposition in Washington D. C., representatives of Inflexxion, Inc. will showcase study results that demonstrate efficacy and positive user satisfaction for three innovative prevention programs that target high-risk college health issues. The four-day APHA event is the nationÂs largest public health exposition, where experts in the field of public health gather to explore the latest research and best practices.
Each presentation offered by Inflexxion, Inc. will highlight the use of interactive multimedia technologies in delivering powerful self-administered health interventions to a college-aged audience. Building on a proactive approach that has been scientifically tested and proven effective, each interactive program leverages the flexibility of a tailored, self-directed path to address the targeted health needs of a diverse college-aged audience at various levels of risk:
MyStudentBody. com® STDs
November 8, 2004 Â Presenting the efficacy of an online STD prevention program for college students, Tara Cousineau, PhD, outlines the key features of effective STD prevention education and the advantages of using a web-based tool. Study results from a randomized controlled clinical trial with 316 students at seven representative four-year colleges, demonstrate that MyStudentBody. com STDs effectively reduces sexual risk behaviors, underscoring significant increases in STD-related knowledge, positive attitudes about condom use, intentions to practice safer sex, and condom usage.
Food, Mood & Attitude® CD-ROM
November 9, 2004 Â Exploring the merits of a proactive multimedia program for reducing the risks associated with disordered eating, Traci C. Green, MSc, compares efficacy study results for 240 college-aged women considered at different levels of risk (with an equal representation of at-risk and not at-risk women) for developing an eating disorder. At the baseline and in subsequent post-intervention follow-ups, study participants improved on nearly all outcomes relative to controls.
MyStudentBody. com® Tobacco
November 9, 2004 Â Examining health risks and social issues associated with college tobacco use, Diane Johnson, MPH, expounds the value of web-based education in circumventing experimental behaviors before they become lifelong physical addictions. Study results from a randomized controlled clinical trial show that MyStudentBody. com Tobacco is an effective tool for addressing the needs of college students at various levels of tobacco use, including non-users.
Research and development for these innovative programs has been funded through competitive grant awards, and each program has been scientifically tested for efficacy and user satisfaction with support from the National Institutes of Health.
