The Sixth Annual Evansburg Challenge Run will be held at Evansburg State Park on Sunday, October 26, 2003. This increasingly popular event draws more than 350 runners from across the country. Runners have the choice of participating in a 10-mile Trail Run or 5k Road Race.

The proceeds from this annual fundraising event will help adults being treated for mental illness in Montgomery and Delaware Counties. Funds are used to train volunteers and provide services that help those managing mental illnesses such as clinical depression or schizophrenia.

Trail Runners will enjoy the four water crossings, ditches, puddles, and a steep muddy climb over ten miles of horse trails along and through the Skippack Creek. The Run provides a welcome challenge and delight to both beginners and veteran runners.

Road Racers can set a personal best on one of the fastest courses in Montgomery County. The race stays on lightly traveled flat and fast roads in and near the park.

Most runners come from Pennsylvania and the local tri-state area, but runners from mid-west and western states have traveled here for the competition as well. Performance Awards go to winners in various categories and results are posted on the Internet shortly after the race.

On-site registration opens at 9 a. m. at the Park Pavilion. The event begins at 10. Evansburg State Park is located between Ridge and Skippack Pike in Collegeville.

The Compeer Program is an adjunct to therapy for people who have been referred by mental health agencies. Compeer matches caring volunteers in one-to-one friendships to provide a vital transitional step to recovery for those faced with the stigma of a mental illness.

Sponsors of the 2003 Evansburg Challenge include Sovereign Bank, AETNA, Eastern Mountain Sport, Automation Mailing, The Morley Group and MAX (Montgomery County Association for Excellence in Service). The Evansburg Challenge has been recognized as a “Best Fundraising Event” by the International Compeer Programs (IACP) which has affiliates in 115 cities, 33 states, Australia, Canada and the Netherlands.
