San Diego, CA (PRWEB) February 17, 2006

Expanding its already comprehensive educational offerings, Coleman College announces the opening of its new campus and the implementation of its new Bioinformatics Technician program.

The new San Diego campus is centrally located between freeways 163, 52, 15 and 8, making it convenient for students across the San Diego area to attend classes. The campus, located at 8888 Balboa Avenue, is within walking distance of today’s most successful high-tech companies.

“This new location is not only convenient for our students, but it is in the heart of the high-tech community that hires our graduates,” said Paul Panesar, President of Coleman College. “This location is advantageous to both our alumni and our students. Students will be visible to their future employers, and alumni working at nearby companies can continue their education.”

Coleman’s San Diego campus is much larger than its previous 56,000-square-foot location. This new campus location encompasses an 82,000-square-foot facility that allows students to train on some of the most advanced equipment available in the industry.

“Coleman is not only expanding the campus size, but diversifying in our course offerings as well,” Panesar said.

Beginning March 18, Coleman will be offering the Bioinformatics Technician certificate program. This is a 35-week, full-time day program or a 70-week, part-time night program. It offers students the unique skill sets needed in the biotechnology industry. Students will learn to use and develop tools to find and analyze genes that are important in human health.

Graduates from this program may work for pharmaceutical, biotechnology and life science companies, as well as academic research institutes. They will have the knowledge to work closely with scientists to mine the human genome, identifying the causes of potential treatments for human diseases, as well as studying how and when genes are expressed. Graduates will also be able to build databases and web interfaces to contribute to the understanding of the human genome.

This program is a welcome addition to Coleman’s list of program offerings that the San Diego Tribune has voted #1 Business/Vocational School in San Diego for four consecutive years. The School offers programs in Information Technology, Computer Networks, Computer Information Systems, Computer Graphic Design, and Business and Technology Management.
